1-Introduction
======================================================

This is the sixth character FAQ I’ve written for Dynasty Warriors 5.
My other character FAQs include: Zhou Tai, Sun Ce, Huang Gai, Lu Xun,
and Gan Ning.  I have played DW3, DW3Xtreme, DW4, DW4Xtreme, and now
DW5.  In my opinion, DW5 has made some very significant advances from
the previous games and has become the best in the series.

I got the game the first day I could, and everything in the below text
is from my experience in the U.S. version of the game.

This FAQ contains my experience playing Dynasty Warriors 5 as Wei Yan.
Among things I’ll cover in this FAQ are his move set, weapon info
(including lvl 4 weapon information), musou mode stages, and models.

======================================================
2-Why Should I use Wei Yan?
======================================================

Wei Yan is a very useful fighter to try and master.  He is by no means
a beginner character because, in my opinion, only Sun Ce and Pang Tong
have movesets that are as inconventional as Wei Yan's moveset.
However, if you get good at Wei Yan or master him, you will see that
he can kill many officers before they realize what is going on.  His
charge attacks make him godly once you know how to use them.  His
SST(T) is very effective against crowds and generals on all
difficulty levels, and his musou, though hard to control is a very
powerful and effective killing mechanism.

======================================================
3-Unlocking
======================================================

Wei Yan is unlocked by completing Huang Zhong's musou mode.

======================================================
4-Move Set
======================================================

he finishes by standing on his head and creating a large vortex damaging
everything around him.

Requirements for Obtaining Wei Yan's 4th
Stage- Battle of Chen Cang (Hard Difficulty)
Requirement- 1) Defeat all 4 Defense Captains

Strategy- This stage is a pain in the rear end, but this weapon is very easy
to obtain.  First and foremost, let me say that unlike MANY of the other
4th weapons in the game, the character trying to obtain this weapon does NOT
have to complete the requirements for it.  In simple terms, you can bring
another character into the stage, leave Wei Yan next to Zhuge Liang in safety
and complete the necessary conditions, get the weapon, and kill Sima Yi with
the other character.  That said, here is a more in-depth strategy for
completing the requirements.

First, charge up the eastern side of the map and enter the castle in the
northeast.  Kill Zhang He if you like (though it doesn't really affect
anything), and advance south towards the wall to the south where the 3
defensive captains are standing.  Kill these 3 defensive captains, then kill
Cao Ren, and advance to the western side of the fort (around the mountain) and
kill the 4th and final defense captain.  You should get the "precious item
report" at this time.  The weapon is located on top of a castle wall in the
southern part of Sima Yi's area.  Go up the stairs, get the weapon, kill Sima
Yi.

The trickiest part of this is... um... well... not dying I guess.  Using the
above method/trick I described will make it possible to get Wei Yan's 4th
weapon before you have leveled him at all.  This isn't that difficult.  All
you gotta do is kill 4 ordinary guys.  No time limits.  No generals required.

======================================================
6-Musou Mode
======================================================

Wei Yan has 5 stages in his musou mode, The 5 stages are

1) Battle of Mt. Ding Jun
Shu Forces vs. Wei Forces
Strategy- Advance up the mountain dispatching enemy officers as you meet them.
Afterwards, take out Xiahou Yuan and any other remaining generals.  This
brings Cao Cao to the map.  Kill Cao Cao.

2) Battle of Tian Shui
Shu Forces vs. Wei Forces
Strategy- Advance forward taking An Ding Castle, then advance east taking
Nan An Castle.  After this you can either follow Zhuge Liang's plot to trick
the enemy leader, or not.  Kill generals until the gates open and Ma Zun
tries to run away.  Hunt him down, and kill him to end the mission.

3) Battle of Jie Ting
Shu Forces vs. Wei Forces
Strategy- Don't let the Wei forces cut off either of the gates nearby the
bottom of the mountain, as this will make Ma Su upset and his moral will
get bad thus allowing Wei to kill him.  After you save Ma Su's stupid self,
advance on Sima Yi, and kill him.  This brings Cao Pi to the scenario.  Kill
him to end the mission.

4) Battle of Chen Cang
Shu Forces vs. Wei Forces
Strategy- Advance up the eastern side of the map and into the northeast side
of the castle.  Take out Zhang He, and the four defense captains guarding
the wall.  This lets your troops into the base.  Take out Cao Ren and
eventually, Sima Yi to end the scenario.

5) Battle of Wu Zhang Plains
Shu Forces vs. Wei Forces
Strategy- Advance up the center of the map taking the attack bases in the
center of the map.  Advance northwards, defeating whichever supply base(s)
you wish, thus allowing yourself access to the Wei camp.  Take out Deng Ai
to stop the catapults, and Cao Ren, as he advances towards Zhuge Liang.
Advance up either the east or west side of the map, finally making your
way to Sima Yi.  Kill him to end the mission.

a gold mask with a red strip on it.  He has brown dreadlocks tied into a

Model 2- Wei Yan unlocks this model when he get's about 6000 points.
This model is just his first model with different colors. The green and
brown armor turns silver and black.  His mask is black with a red strip on
it.  He has black dreadlocks in a high pony tail.

Model 3- Wei Yan unlocks this model when he get about 20000 points.
This is one of his DW4 models. Basically it is a green, gold, and brown

Model 4- Wei Yan unlocks this model when he get around 20000 points

8-Wei Yan's Encyclopedia Information
======================================================

Born 175 A.D.
Died 234 A.D.

A Shu officer.  He served under Liu Biao until his death, from which he
joined Liu Bei.  Despite his rebellious spirit and disapproval for Zhuge
Liang, Liu Bei took him in as one of his own, eventually promoting him.
He later went on to continue the line of Five Tiger Generals with his
bravery and was a major force in the Shu efforts to take the north.

9-Q&A
======================================================
Since this is a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) this section will continue
to grow as people send emails containing questions about Wei Yan.

Q: Why can't I get his final weapon?
A: Check and make sure you are playing on at least HARD difficulty at the
Battle of Chen Chang from the Shu Forces side.  Now check and make sure you
are killing 4 defense captains.  Count them as you take them down.  Other
than that, just keep trying.

Q: Why doesn't Wei Yan talk very much?
A: Like Zhou Tai, he's too much of a badass to talk very much.  He prefers
to just kill people apparently.

Q: What are the best items to equip on Wei Yan?
A: I equip all the traditional items on him: tortoise amulet, tiger amulet,
and wind scroll.  But in addition to that I equip the ice orb (if you want
to know why play Wu Zhang Plains on HARD or higher from the Wei side), red
hare harness, and believe it or not Herbal Remedy (charge attack increase).
Wei Yan is most effective when using his charge attacks, so with an attack
and charge attack increase on his final weapon, plus items that give attack
and charge attack bonuses, Wei Yan's charge attacks kill very quickly.  As
for the 5th item slot, I alternate between the dragon amulet, the peacock
amulet, and the way of the musou.
