Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires /
FAQ/Walkthrough / 1. Introduction
5EMINTRO /
-----------------------------/-----------------------------------------------
/
Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires is the latest expansion for the Dynasty Warriors
franchise. The Dynasty Warriors series is one of KOEI's most popular
franchises. Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires focuses on the Three Kingdoms Era
of Chinese history. Your goal in the game is to conquer all of China.

Version 1.0 (07/23/06): Almost a completed guide.
Version 1.1 (07/25/06): Added a movies section that I'm working on and added
more battles to the Special Battles section. Added a stage walkthrough
section also.
Version 1.2 (07/26/06): Finished posting the requirements for the last three
Special Battles.
Version 1.3 (08/02/06): I know I updated stuff...I just don't remember what
all I did. I know I added some more movies to the movie section. The
game is getting harder and harder to play more and more, so the updates
might be less frequent.

I need to get a few more policies and then add a movies section. I might add
a section dedicated completely to endings.

Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires /
FAQ/Walkthrough / 2. Controller Setup/Move Notations
5EMCONSE /
-----------------------------/-----------------------------------------------
/
This section is mainly just to overview how to play the game. Also, this
section will list how I will notate moves throughout the guide. Most of
these move notations are generally accepted in the Dynasty Warriors community
(at least accepted on the GameFAQs forums) and are not overly complicated.
----------------
Controller Setup
----------------
The basic controller setup of Dynasty Warriors is very simple. These are the
controls for when you are fighting. I really do hope you can figure out how
to navigate the menus on your own.
Controller Pad/Left Analog Stick: Movement
Square: Regular attack
Triangle: Charge attack
Circle: Musou attack
X: Jump
L1: Guard
L2: Display name and life
R1: Bow attack
R2: Toggle map
R3: Musou rage
Start: Pauses the game
Start + Select: Soft reset
--------------
Move Notations
--------------
In this guide, I use a lot of common terms to describe attacks. If you are
not really up to speed on the abbreviations I use, then here is a list of all
(I hope) of the terms that I will use in the guide.
S: This is the typical notation for a regular attack. The S stands for
square, which is what the default button for regular attacks is. For
example, SSSS would be hitting the square button four times.
T: This is the typical notation for a charge attack. The T stands for
triangle, which is what the default button for charge attacks is. For
example, SSST would be hitting the square button three times and then
hitting the triangle button to perform a charge attack.
C#: This is the typical notation for describing a specific charge attack. A
C1 would be T. A C2 would be ST and so on. The C stands for Charge and
is interchangeable. Therefore, C1 and Charge 1 mean the same thing.
Jump Charge: This is where you hit the jump button and then hit the charge
button in mid air. Each character has a jump charge.
Musou: This is where you hit the circle button. This attack can only be
performed when your musou bar (found under the life bar) is full. If you
hold the circle button, you will get a longer musou attack.
True Musou: This is a special type of musou attack. This musou attack can
only be performed if you are in the red area on your life bar, you have
equipped the rare item the Way of the Musou, or you are in Musou Rage
mode. This musou attack has a special ending attack that is unique to
each character.
Musou Rage: Musou rage is a special fighting mode. While in musou rage,
your attacks become stronger, your attack speed becomes faster, your
attacks cannot be interrupted by weak attacks, your musou bar
automatically fills up, and you will always perform a true musou,
regardless of life. You can only enter musou rage mode if you have picked
up a Musou Token. Once you have a Musou Token, you can hit the R3 button
to enter musou rage mode.
I will include more notations as I think of them.

Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires /
FAQ/Walkthrough / 2. Playable Characters
5EMPCHAR /
-----------------------------/-----------------------------------------------
/
In Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires, almost all characters in the game are
playable. Most characters are generic characters with generic moves.
However, there are many characters that are unique with their own moves. I
will list all the characters in the game as well as the generic move sets for
the generic officers.
Both the ST and SSSST attacks send enemies into the air, allowing you to hit
them more times as they come down. An SST attack is called a charge rush and
the move’s effect depends on how often you tap the T button. The more times
you press the T button, the more times the first part of the attack happens
before the second part of the attack occurs. A (T) means that triangle can
be pressed for additional effects.
For C1 attacks, I have classified them into the following terms:
Element Projectile: Character shoots out an orb that explodes after a short
period of time. The element in front of the word projectile indicates
which element the orb has.
Dash: Character dashes ahead with a certain type of attack.
Taunt: A move that is similar to the taunt moves in DW4. Character poses
while a blast of white energy surround the character and damages all who
is around him. I finally found a good use for this: taking generals off
of horses. That’s about the only good use for them.
Special: A special type of move that fits into no other categories.
For jump charges, I have classified them into the following terms:
Projectile: Character shoots out a whirlwind type projectile.
Multi-hit: Character knocks the enemies into the air and proceeds to hit
them multiple times in the air.
Stomp: Character dives towards the ground and stomps the ground, sending out
a shockwave.
Moving: Character does move in mid air that covers a lot of distance
Double: Character has an attack that consists of two separate motions and
attacks.
Special: A special type of move that fits into no other categories

FAQ/Walkthrough / 4. The Basics of Empire Mode
5EMEMPIR /
-----------------------------/-----------------------------------------------
/
What makes DW5: Empires different from regular DW5 or DW5:XL is the fact that
you need to conquer all of China to win. To do so, you must manage your
country and invade territories. The battles are different in this game in
the fact that you have to use strategy to conquer the land. You cannot just
rush out and try to kill the main person. You need to take over bases to
extend your supply line. This adds a bit of strategy to the game.
There are two phases to Empire mode. They are divided into the Strategy
Phase and the Battle Phase. I will go over each phase in this walkthrough.
/

Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires /
FAQ/Walkthrough / 4a. Strategy Phase
5EMEMSTR /
-----------------------------/-----------------------------------------------
/
The first phase is the Strategy Phase. During the strategy phase, you get a
certain amount of orders you can do. This is based on your rank, which is
based on the amount of territories you have under your control. You have
various options to choose from for every order. Remember, each policy
requires a certain amount of gold to perform, so be wary of that. Each
policy will be reviewed in Chapter 5.
Consult: Listen to your officers as they lay out their plans for the land.
This gives you the ability to use new policies laid out by your officers.
Each officer is proposing two policies an order.
Delegate: Request that one of your officers perform the tasks for this turn.
The officer will perform only one policy an order.
Assign: If you do not like the policies laid forth by your officers, you can
assign something on your own. However, you can only perform one policy
for that order.
Station: You can move officers from one territory to another territory.
Info: View info on various forces, areas, officers, and so forth.
Save: Save your game.
Proceed: Move on to the Battle Phase.

The battle phase is where you invade and defend your territory. Here, there
are also various options you can perform.
Invade: Invade a neighboring neutral or hostile territory.
Defend: Defend your territory from an invading force.
Joint Attack: Invade a territory with another force. This can only be
performed if you have performed the Request policy during the Strategy
phase.
Help Ally: Help an ally defend their territory from another force.
Info: View info on various forces, areas, officers, and so forth.
Save: Save your game.

Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires /
FAQ/Walkthrough / 4c. Before and During Battle
5EMEMBDB /
-----------------------------/-----------------------------------------------
/
After you have chosen to invade a territory, you will be asked to pick the
units which you would like to participate in the attack. You may have up to
three main generals, three lieutenants, one relief general, and one relief
lieutenants. Relief generals and lieutenants will arrive as reinforcements
during the battle.
When you have decided to choose who you would like to attack with, you will
go to a screen that allows you to prepare for battle. Here, you have many
options you can choose from before the start of the battle.
Preparation: Here, you can equip your weapon and items and view your
general. You can only equip items and weapons that you have produced in
your territory.
Conditions: Lists the victory and defeat conditions for the battle.
Unit Info: Views your units on the field. During the battle, this screen
will allow you to assign orders to your units.
Tactics: Allows you to equip two tactics. You must equip these tactics
before the battle starts if you want to use them during the battle.
Options: Allows you to adjust the map options and the music options.
Once the battle starts, you must achieve your objectives. If you are
invading, you must capture the enemy's main camp before time runs out or
defeat the ruler if the ruler is on the field. If you are defending, you
only have to defend your main camp until time runs out. You can, if you so
choose to do so, take the enemy's main camp. This will cause the enemy to
lose as well.
During the battle, you will need to focus on taking the enemy's bases. If
you look on the map when you press start, you will notice lines going from
base to base. You will need to extend your line, which is blue from your
main base to the opponent's main base. The lines are your supply lines. If
you do not extend this line to your opponent's main base, you will be unable
to take that base, no matter how many times you kill off the Guard Captains.
To take a base, all you have to do is defeat all Guard Captains and enemy
generals in that base until your guard captains arrive to claim the base.
You can tell how many generals and Guard Captains you have left to kill by
the meter at the upper right hand corner. The bubbles above the bars tell
you how many generals and Guard Captains are in the base you are at. The
color of the flag tells you which side has control of the base.
Also, on your mini map, you will notice that each section is color coded.
These colors represent the territories you control. They also represent the
chances of you capturing the enemy's officers. They are as follows:
Dark Red: A highly good chance that your officers will be captured by the
enemy and almost no chance that the opponent's officers will be captured.
Light Purple: A slight chance for any officer to be captured.
Dark Blue: Almost no chance that your officers will be captured by the enemy
and a highly good chance that the opponent's officers will be captured.
You can tell when you are able to capture an officer if they have a red halo
circling their head during battle. During the battle with a general, if you
injure them, there is a good chance that they will try to retreat. If they
retreat back into their base, they can regain health and then resume their
attack. The same holds true for your generals. If your generals are getting
beat, they will retreat back into one of your bases to heal up.
One last thing that you should note is the numbers beside the bars at the
upper right hand corner. Those numbers tell you how many times a general can
come back into the battle. If you don't capture an officer, they will return
if the number next to the red bar is higher than 0. Once they return in the
battle, the number will go down by one number. When the number next to the
red bar is 0, no more generals from the opposing side can come back onto the
field. However, the same works for your side. Once the number next to the
blue bar is 0, no more generals can come back onto your side.
When you press the start button, you can perform various functions. You can
assign orders to your units through the Unit Info menu. You can also perform
any tactics you may have in your arsenal by going to the Tactics menu. Also,
if the battle is not going well for you and it's only inevitable that you
will lose, you can Retreat and get the battle over with.

FAQ/Walkthrough / 4d. After Battle
5EMEMAFT /
-----------------------------/-----------------------------------------------
/
After the battle, to the victor go the spoils. You will receive money,
attributes to your officer, and attributes to your weapon. You will also
receive points for the battle. The more points your officer has, the more
troops they are able to command.
After you have received the attributes to your person, you are able to
customize your weapon a little. After each battle, any weapon attributes you
find can be placed on the weapon you used during that battle. Each weapon
has five slots for weapon attributes. If your weapon's smiths are maxed out,
you are also able to add evolution attacks to third weapons, increase the
base power, and change the weight of your weapon. Attributes do not stack.
They override.
Points are given out based on performance in battle. Every officer who made
it through the battle alive will receive points. You receive points based on
generals you have defeated, troops you have defeated, and so forth.
Finally, you are able to recruit any generals that you have captured.
However, the number you can recruit is based upon the amount of money you
have. Each general you recruit takes money. A general can refuse to join
you, which means you will have to let them go. Finally, you can reassign
officers from place to place after the battle.

FAQ/Walkthrough / 5. Empire Mode Scenarios and Walkthrough
5EMSCENA /
-----------------------------/-----------------------------------------------
/
The way that Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires plays out means that there is no
real way to create a walkthrough of each scenario. This is because of the
randomness factor. There are so many things that can happen each turn that
it is impossible to list each thing that happens. However, what I can do is
list strategies for each scenario and point out various items of interest
that can be helpful through each play through of the game.
Initially, there are only two scenarios available at the start. However, you
can unlock the next scenario by beating the scenario before it. For example,
to unlock the scenario Dong Zhuo in Luo Yang, simply beat the Yellow Turban
Rebellion scenario.
/
---------------------------------/-------------------------------------------
Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires /
FAQ/Walkthrough / 5a. Yellow Turban Rebellion
5EMSCYEL /
-----------------------------/-----------------------------------------------
/
The Yellow Turban Rebellion is normally associated with the fall of the Han
Dynasty and the start of the Three Kingdoms Era. This scenario is initially
available.
In this scenario, most of the forces are neighboring each other very closely
at the top of the map while most of the south is uninhabited, except for the
Nanman country. You have Ma Teng, Dong Zhuo, Liu Zhang, and Zhang Lu in the
west, Liu Bei, Gongsun Zan, and Yuan Shao in the north, and Cao Cao, Sun
Jian, Yan Baihu and Zhang Jiao in the east. Yuan Shu and Liu Biao are in the
center of the map.
This is a good map to start as most people only have one territory to their
name save for Dong Zhuo and Zhang Jiao. While it may be tempting to go for
the southern lands early on, it is hard to defend considering the fact that
you cannot capture any officers in these lands. It is easy to spread
yourself thin in the south. It is normally best to overthrow a couple of
forces first and gain a good army before occupying the south.

FAQ/Walkthrough / 5b. Dong Zhuo in Luo Yang
5EMSCDON /
-----------------------------/-----------------------------------------------
/
When the Han Dynasty was falling into pieces, there was a scramble to take </pre><pre id="faqspan-3">
control of power. One man took control of the Emperor. That man was an evil
man known as Dong Zhuo. To unlock this scenario, you must complete the
Yellow Turban Rebellion first.
In this scenario, there are many more forces on the field. The west remains
relatively the same, except for Dong Zhuo holding one more territory. Liu
Bei has moved east, allowing for Zhang Yan to hold his former territory.
Yuan Shao has moved closer to Gongsun Zan. Sun Jian has moved towards the
center of the map near Liu Biao and the western area has been taken over by
Liu Yong, Wang Lang, Yan Baihu, and Tao Qian. There is less free territory
in the south now.
In this scenario, once again, it is best to try to take out some of the
smaller territories first rather than take free territories. The capturing
of officers is much better than just capturing an unoccupied territory.
Dong Zhuo is the main power on the board, especially with Lu Bu under his
control, but if you are able to make alliances with other forces, then he
should be able to be kept in check.
/
---------------------------------/-------------------------------------------
Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires /
FAQ/Walkthrough / 5c. Divided Land
5EMSCDIV /
-----------------------------/-----------------------------------------------
/
After Dong Zhuo was defeated, the empire was once again thrown into turmoil.
The man that would step up to take control would be Cao Cao, but he would not
go unchallenged in his claim. To unlock this scenario, you must first
complete the scenario Dong Zhuo in Luo Yang.
In this scenario, the main forces begin to get bigger. With Dong Zhuo no
longer on the field, Ma Teng, Cao Cao, Yuan Shao, Liu Biao and Liu Zhang all
claim a second territory. Sun Ce has taken over for Sun Jian in this
scenario. Lu Bu is now his own force after the death of Dong Zhuo. There is
only three unoccupied territories in this scenario, so it is all but a given
that in order to expand, you have to defeat another force. The weaker forces
stay weak while the main forces all grow stronger.
This scenario is the start of the main powers being strong from the outset.
Most of the bigger forces have either six generals or more, so taking over a
territory yields higher rewards. However, this also means that trying to
take over a main force right away will be tougher. With more forces vying
for less open space, there should be more battles.

FAQ/Walkthrough / 5d. Battle of Guan Du
5EMSCGUA /
-----------------------------/-----------------------------------------------
/
The two main powers in the north, Cao Cao and Yuan Shao, had major battles to
determine who would control the Emperor and ultimately, all of China. Yuan
Shao had nobility and superior numbers on his side while Cao Cao had cunning
and superior generals. The winner of this battle would have the best
foothold for controlling China. To unlock this scenario, first you must
complete the Divided Land scenario.
In this scenario, Yuan Shao has taken complete control of the north while Cao
Cao has control of the region below it. There are not as many forces in this
scenario, as most of them have been wiped out by the main forces. There are
only nine powers now, but most of them have multiple territories full of
officers.
This scenario right away pits major powers against each other. The two
biggest nations, Cao Cao and Yuan Shao, normally go after each other right
away. The other powers on the board, such as Sun Ce and Liu Biao, have many
generals that can be used to expand as well. Trying to take over a territory
is normally high risk, but winning has very high rewards.

FAQ/Walkthrough / 5e. Flames over Chi Bi
5EMSCFLA /
-----------------------------/-----------------------------------------------
/
After winning the battle of Guan Du and taking control of northern China, Cao
Cao sets his eyes upon the southern parts of China. Liu Bei and Sun Quan,
fearing that they will lose their territories to the more powerful Cao Cao,
form an alliance and devise a plan to beat back Cao Cao. The results would
be the Battle of Chi Bi, which would become the biggest loss of Cao Cao's
career. To unlock this scenario, you must first complete the Battle of Guan
Du scenario.
This scenario starts off with Cao Cao being the biggest power on the board.
He starts off with nine territories and all of them have over four generals
in them. However, the other major powers are nothing to scoff at, since Liu
Bei, Sun Quan, Liu Zhang, and Ma Teng all have more than one territory and
all have able body generals at their command.
The biggest concern on the map, if you are not playing as Cao Cao, is Cao
Cao. Normally, the best way to go about defeating a big nation is to become
a big nation yourself. Take out some smaller forces on the map to become
larger and then challenge the bigger forces on the map. Of course, if you
are playing as Cao Cao, then you already have a head start compared to most
of the other forces.

Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires /
FAQ/Walkthrough / 6. Stage Walkthroughs and Strategies
5EMSCBAT /
-----------------------------/-----------------------------------------------
/
Each territory has its own battlefield. These battlegrounds are full of
bases and pathways and some have traps on the battlefield. I will be posting
strategies for each battleground. The main camp locations are where they
normally. During Empire mode, the main camp placement is a fixed random. So
if the main camp isn't located where I say it is in your game, then don't
worry about it. It's normally a random thing. I'm just listing the most
common placement. They will be listed as they are in Free Mode. I will also
list the stage from DW5 or DW5:XL that the battle is taking place at, just in
case you wanted to feel nostalgic.
------------------
Battle of Bei Ping
------------------
Stage in DW5: Battle of Chang Shan
Invader's Main Camp: Southeastern base
Defender's Main Camp: Inside the castle
This map is a small map. It's normally quicker to go through the castle than
to go around the outside of the castle. If you're attacking, you have two
quick paths you could take. You can either attack through the middle gate or
through the east gate. If you are defending, the fact that the two gates are
so close to each other makes guarding both easy, so you can send the CPU to
focus on the western gate.
------------
Battle of Ye
------------
Stage in DW5: Battle of Ji Province
Invader's Main Camp: Southwestern base
Defender's Main Camp: Northeastern base.
This map can either be really quick or really long. If you take the western
path, you will have to take over, at the very least, 5 bases. If you go
east, you normally only have to take just 2 before you can reach the main
camp of the defenders. Because of this, the middle base along the eastern
path is a pivotal base. If you control this base, you can, for the most
part, control the flow of the battle. Even though it is possible to take the
western route, it's not the most favorable option.
------------------
Battle of Jin Yang
------------------
Stage in DW5: Battle of Liang Province
Invader's Main Camp: Southeastern base
Defender's Main Camp: Northwestern base
This map is another small map. There are a lot of bases within a small area.
That makes for multiple quick paths through the middle and harder to defend.
As a defender, even if you cut off one base, there are many other ways to get
to the main camp. Therefore, the best defense on this stage is a quick
offense. It's best to focus more on taking the enemy's main base rather than
defending your own base. It's easy to jump from base to base quickly in a
matter of minutes.
-------------------
Battle of Ping Yuan
-------------------
Stage in DW5:XL: Battle of Han Shui
Invader's Main Camp: Inside southwestern castle
Defender's Main Camp: Northwestern base
This map is deceptively long. While most of the battlefield is wide open,
there are a lot of small, twisting pathways and poorly place bridges to get
to the wide open spaces. From looking on the start screen, taking the
western pathway seems to be the fastest way to get around the map. However,
because of that long, twisting pathway, it's about as long as the other two
options. This makes the stage easier to defend and a pain to attack on. If
you're defending, you really only need to defend one base to be safe. You
only need to solidify two other bases in order to have a strong foothold on
the battlefield.
-----------------
Battle of Pu Yang
-----------------
Stage in DW5: Battle of Si Shui Gate
Invader's Main Camp: Southeastern base
Defender's Main Camp: Inside the castle
This map is medium sized. Of course, the two most important bases are the
middle base and the base right outside the castle. Attackers can go around
the middle base by taking the eastern and northern paths, but this way around
is longer. There are a lot of bases on this map that are really just
pointless. Going through the middle is the quickest way as an attacker, but
for some reason, the computer likes going through the northern path a lot.
------------------
Battle of Luo Yang
------------------
Stage in DW5: Battle of Hu Lao Gate
Invader's Main Camp: One of the southeastern bases
Defender's Main Camp: Inside the castle
The map covers a lot of territory and there are a lot of bases on the map,
which makes it kind of hard to defend. There are two bases that lead to the
castle base, but both bases are spread out. The castle has defensive
catapults that attack the invaders, but they don't really help much at all.
They can be stopped by taking the base east of the castle, but there's not
much point in stopping something that really doesn't affect anything at all.
Going around the western side normally only requires taking two bases and is
probably the easiest way into the castle.
----------------
Battle of Xia Pi
----------------
Stage in DW5: Battle of Xia Pi
Invader's Main Camp: Southwestern base
Defender's Main Camp: Northeastern base
This stage was designed to be flooded in DW5, so the stage design is a little
weird. Since the defender's main base is normally not inside the castle, the
best ways to get to the northeast is to go around either to the north or
east. The castle is a relative maze and it looks quick, but with where all
the doors are placed and the base placement, it's normally just easier taking
the outside route. There's three ways to get to the defender's main base,
making it difficult to defend and easy to attack. If you have to defend
here, consider defending the castle base and the eastern base and letting
anyone from the north come to you.
------------------
Battle of Xu Chang
------------------
Stage in DW5: Battle of He Fei Castle
Invader's Main Camp: Southeastern base
Defender's Main Camp: Northern base
The castle is designed to make the defenders have an easier time of things.
There are catapults and fire throwing statues inside the castle, making
things easier for the defenders. These defenses can be shut off by taking
the right bases, but by the time you reach the bases, you're no longer in
danger of the siege weapons. The castle itself is designed to make invaders
take a long time to get to the inside of the castle. While there are three
bases that lead to the defender's main base, all three are in close proximity
of each other and can be easily defended. The best bet as an attacker may be
to just circumnavigate the entire castle and just take the outside western
route to the main base.
------------------
Battle of Chang An
------------------
Stage in DW5: Battle of Chen Cang
Invader's Main Camp: Southeastern base
Defender's Main Camp: Northwestern base
In DW5, this was a huge battle between various types of siege weapons. In
this battle, there are some catapults on the castle, but they are out of
place and really don't affect anything because there are no siege ramps to go
up the castle walls. Invaders can go up the eastern path or through the
western gate to get inside the castle. Defenders really only have to protect
the base that is next to the central inside gate in order to stop the
attackers from getting to the main base. The terrain makes it hard to
protect bases outside the castle, but easy to protect bases inside the
castle.
-------------------
Battle of Tian Shui
-------------------
Stage in DW5: Battle of Tian Shui
Invader's Main Camp: Southern base or inside the western fort
Defender's Main Camp: Inside the northern castle
This map can be relatively small. There are not a lot of bases separating
the two main camps no matter where they are placed. The two quickest paths
to get to any of the bases are the western and middle paths, so that is where
most of the action will be. Not much else about this map except for the fact
that it's hard for one defender to guard all three bases leading into the
northern castle.
------------------
Battle of Xi Liang
------------------
Stage in DW5: Battle of Xi Liang
Invader's Main Camp: Southwestern base
Defender's Main Camp: Southeastern base
This map is small, but the path you have to take to get to the two bases is
long. There's a mountain separating the two main camps. As an invader, when
you approach the western base, rocks will roll down the hill to try to stop
you. You can stop the rocks by taking the western base. You cannot cross
the middle bridge because of a rolling log that you cannot get over, so you
have to take the long way around. However, once you get past these two
obstacles, the rest is easy. The path for both sides is fairly linear and
there are not a lot of bases to take or protect.
----------------
Battle of He Fei
----------------
Stage in DW5: Battle of He Fei
Invader's Main Camp: Southeastern base
Defender's Main Camp: Inside the castle
This map is very large with many bases. Going through the center is not the
quickest way to get to the castle because you will eventually have to go to
the northern or western paths. It's best to just go around the outside to
the enemy base. Of course, if you are an invader, you may want to take one
middle base just to prevent the enemy from sneaking into your main camp and
taking it. As a defender, you have two bases that lead to your main camp,
but they are spread out far apart. The best defense on this map will
probably be a good offense.
-----------------
Battle of Jian Ye
-----------------
Stage in DW5: Battle of Wu Territory
Invader's Main Camp: Northwestern base
Defender's Main Camp: Inside the southern castle
This map may seem large, but it's really not. If you take the middle base,
then you're right at the doorstep of what is normally the defender's main
base. Of course, this means that the defender has to protect that base
heavily, so you could make a detour and attack the southern castle from the
west or the east, which is fairly quick on both accounts. However, because
the central base is so close to an invader's main camp as well, the middle
base is definitely the fulcrum of this map. It's hard to play total defense
on this map, so if you're a defender, just try to take out the enemy's main
camp as soon as you possibly can.
-------------------
Battle of Chai Sang
-------------------
Stage in DW5: No clue...I think this map is a new map, but I'm not sure...
Invader's Main Camp: One of the southern bases
Defender's Main Camp: One of the northern bases
I believe this map is a new map designed for this game, because I cannot
place it anywhere in my memory bank. Either way, if it was, then it was a
good design, because there are a lot of bases and a lot of paths to those
bases. There really is no quick way to get to any of the main camps. This
map was made for big attacking battles. Forget the defense and just go after
the enemy.
--------------------
Battle of Xiang Yang
--------------------
Stage in DW5: Battle of Fan Castle
Invader's Main Camp: Inside the southwestern castle
Defender's Main Camp: Inside the northeastern castle
This map is one of the bigger maps in the game. There really is no quick way
to go about this map. If you are invading, then just take whatever path you
can go about to defeating the most enemy generals. If you are defending,
then do the same thing. The northeastern castle may seem weird in design,
but the castle is supposed to be flooded in DW5, making everything level.
Still, it makes for a grand battle stage. Nothing says dominant like tossing
your enemies off of a rooftop.
--------------------
Battle of Jiang Ling
--------------------
Stage in DW5: Battle of Jing Province
Invader's Main Camp: Southern base
Defender's Main Camp: Inside the castle
I really don't like this map. For some reason, I end up playing this stage
the most, which makes me dislike it even more. The inner part of the castle
is annoying to navigate. The outside parts of the castle are basic, but
still annoying. Normally the best path is to take the middle path, but the
computer players like to travel along the two outer paths. This place is
easy to defend, with the multiple bases inside the castle, but annoying to
attack.
-------------------
Battle of Chang Sha
-------------------
Stage in DW5: Battle of Yi Ling
Invader's Main Camp: Southwestern base
Defender's Main Camp: One of the northeastern bases
This map is very large. It would be wise to have a saddle on this stage, as
there are many bases spread out. The northern bases are clumped together a
little bit, but most of the southern bases are far apart from each other.
There are a lot of bases you have to own before you get close to the enemy's
main camp, so it's best to do everything possible to cut the enemy's supply
line right away. You now have your mini map when you navigate the central
maze, but it can still be pain to fight in there. Because of how many twists
are inside that area, it may be easier to just go around, although the
computer loves going in there. This map isn't hard to defend as a defender,
since there normally is only two bases that can lead to your main camp, but
it's much more fun to attack on this stage.
-----------------
Battle of Wu Ling
-----------------
Stage in DW5: The Invasion of Nan Zhong
Invader's Main Camp: Northern base
Defender's Main Camp: One of the southern bases
This map is very small and very quick to move around at. Any of the three
paths is a quick path. This stage is designed to have many battles at
multiple points all at once. It's relatively easy to both attack and defend
with all the bases in the south being so close together. This really is just
a basic map.
-------------------
Battle of Han Zhong
-------------------
Stage in DW5: Battle of Mt. Ding Jun
Invader's Main Camp: Southwestern base
Defender's Main Camp: Northeastern base
Two bases separate the two main camps. If you can control those two bases,
you can control the map. If you're an attacker, you may want to control one
base along the northern and eastern routes to prevent the defenders from
coming from those points and breaking your supply line. If you're a
defender, you may want to consider taking these two routes to sneak up on the
enemy's main camp. There should be a big battle for the middle bases, but
surprise is always the best element.
-----------------
Battle of Yong An
-----------------
Stage in DW5: Battle of Bai Di Castle
Invader's Main Camp: One of the western bases
Defender's Main Camp: Inside the castle or east of the castle
This is a very large map with no quick ways around the area. The quickest
path for an invader is based upon the defender's main camp. If it's inside
the castle, then the northern or central path is the quickest. If the main
camp is east of the castle, then the southern path is the quickest. For a
defender, no matter where your main camp is, there are going to be many
directions you will need to defend from. If you're playing defensive, you
will want to defend all bases around your main camp. If you're going on the
offensive, make sure that the path you don't take to the invader's main camp
is clear of enemies.
------------------
Battle of Cheng Du
------------------
Stage in DW5: Battle of Cheng Du
Invader's Main Camp: One of the eastern bases
Defender's Main Camp: Inside one of the two castles
I don’t like the placement of bases on this map. The pivot point on the map
is the central base in the north. You need to control this base if you're
going to extend your supply line to the other's main camp. All supply lines
run through this one base. That base separates the west from the east. The
problem with that is the fact that you normally have to go north to go south.
It makes the stage longer than it should be, which was probably the plan.
Each main camp is easily defended and there's normally a few bases that
aren't even in play because of the placement of the main camps.
----------------
Battle of Nanman
----------------
Stage in DW5: Conquest of Nan Zhong
Invader's Main Camp: Northeastern base
Defender's Main Camp: Southeastern base
This map is big with many paths and bases. The secret paths in DW5 are now
revealed on the map. Either way, the main camps are normally very easily
defended because they only have one base to access them. However, most other
bases have multiple supply lines running to them. There really is no quick
way to get around this big map. The poison waters on this stage will not
harm anyone, so there is no advantage or disadvantage there.
----------------
Battle of Hui Ji
----------------
Stage in DW5: Battle of Chang Ban
Invader's Main Camp: One of the northern bases
Defender's Main Camp: One of the southern bases
This map in DW5 was designed to be a long chase, so most of the paths twist
and turn. In DW5:E, this means that there are a lot of bases within a small
area, but because of that paths, they are not necessarily quick to get to.
There is a maze of supply lines in the southwestern and central parts of the
map, so it is not easy to cut off supply lines. However, it does make it
easy to take a couple of bases and have it run to the enemy's main camp.
Normally, the defender's main camp is hidden away in the southeast, so it
makes it easier to defend. On this map, defense may be the best plan as a
defender.
------------------
Battle of Jiao Zhi
------------------
Stage in DW5: Battle of Xia Kou
Invader's Main Camp: Southwestern base
Defender's Main Camp: Inside the castle
This map may seem big, but because of base placement, it can be relatively
quick to get to the defender's main camp. Most of the map is covered by the
central lake that doesn't come into play at all. Most of the time, you only
need to take one base to get there. Otherwise, you only need to take two.
The quickest way to get to the northern castle as an invader is to take the
western or central routes. The eastern route has a lot of bases and is a lot
longer than the western or central routes. As a defender, it may be best to
just go on the offensive early and often.
-------------------
Battle of Jian Ning
-------------------
Stage in DW5: Battle of Nan Zhong
Invader's Main Camp: Southwestern base
Defender's Main Camp: Northeastern base
Because of the circular paths of the stage, the stage is longer than it would
appear to be. Both main camps normally can only be accessed by one base, so
it makes it easy to defend on both sides. The poison lake does not harm
anyone, so there is no advantage there. There are a lot of bases along the
circular path, so getting from one side to another can be a pain. This map
is definitely easier to play defense on than to attack on.

Rest
----
Cost: 0
Effect: Do nothing.
How obtained: Consult when low on money.
Uses: It would be funny if it cost something to rest. It would suck, but it
would be funny. You should never really use this. If you want to do
nothing, then Promote Craft or Promote Craft+. At least you gain money.

FAQ/Walkthrough / 8. Weapons
5EMWEAPO /
-----------------------------/-----------------------------------------------
/
You can upgrade weapons using the Smith policies. A Bladesmith policy will
increase the Tech level for your sword users by 20. A Spearsmith policy will
increase the Tech level for your spear and pike users by 20. A Weaponsmith
policy will increase the Tech level for the unique weapons by 20. The All
Smith policy will increase the Tech level for all weapons by 20. The tech
levels are important to your officer's development, as they allow you to have
more and stronger attacks in battle. The weapon you can use and how you can
upgrade the weapon is based off on the level of your weapons.
Level 1 (Tech level 0-80): First weapons can be used.
Level 2 (Tech level 100-180): Second weapons can be used.
Level 3 (Tech level 200-280): Third weapons can be used.
Level 4 (Tech level 300-380): Fourth weapons can be obtained (must fulfill
the requirements described below), other officers on your side can use
fourth weapons.
Level 5 (Tech level 400): Can obtain attributes to change base power and
weight to all weapons and add evolution attacks to third weapons.
To obtain a fourth weapon for a character, you must get 500 KOs on a stage
with that character. Once you have done so, you will be able to use that
character's fourth weapon.

FAQ/Walkthrough / 10. Special Items
5EMSITEM /
-----------------------------/-----------------------------------------------
/
There are many items in the game that are special items. These items have
various effects on your character. These items are broken down into three
categories: Saddles, Orbs, and Accessories. These items can be developed in
cities. Most of the better Special Items are closer to the bottom of the
development list of a city, so you may have to spend some time using the
Development policy before you can get to these items. All of these items
were in the last two DW5 games except for one Saddle and three Accessories.

Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires /
FAQ/Walkthrough / 10a. Saddles
5EMSISAD /
-----------------------------/-----------------------------------------------
/
Saddles allow you to quickly get from one place to another. It sure beats
walking. There is one new saddle in DW5:E.
Red Hare Saddle: Begin stage mounted on Red Hare, the fastest mount in the
game.
Hex Mark Saddle: Begin stage mounted on Hex Mark, which increase luck (I
think...).
Storm Harness: Begin stage mounted on Storm Runner, which increase Horse
Attack and Horse Defense (I think...).
Shadow Harness: Begin stage mounted on Shadow Runner, which allows you to
withstand all attacks without falling off of your mount.
Elephant Harness: Begin stage mounted on an elephant.
Mammoth Harness: Begin stage mounted on a battle elephant, which is stronger
than a regular elephant.

Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires /
FAQ/Walkthrough / 10b. Orbs
5EMSIORB /
-----------------------------/-----------------------------------------------
/
Orbs give your charge attacks elemental properties. These elemental
properties can be useful when in the midst of a tough battle.
Fire Orb: Add fire element to attacks, which causes enemies to take damage
as long as they are on fire.
Ice Orb: Add ice element to attacks, which can cause enemies to be
temporarily frozen and have a lower defense.
Shadow Orb: Add shadow element to attacks, which empties musou gauge and may
defeat enemies in one hit.
Light Orb: Add light element to attacks, which causes attacks to break
through the enemy’s guard.

Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires /
FAQ/Walkthrough / 10c. Accessories
5EMSIACC /
-----------------------------/-----------------------------------------------
/
Accessories are every other special item. These items can range from useful
to pointless. There are three new accessories in DW5:E.
Art of War: Ability boost items have longer effect.
Survival Guide: Attack doubles when knocked down and health is low.
Bodyguard Manual: Bodyguards become stronger.
Demon Band: Extends the length of the Musou Rage.
Way of Musou: Can use True Musou Attack regardless of health.
Wind Scroll: Attack range increases.
Fire Arrows: Can use fire arrows.
Arm Guards: No damage taken during charge attacks (not really, it just
allows some charge attacks to not be interrupted, but that's the item's
description in the game).
Tiger Collar: Begin stage accompanied by a tiger (tigers are improved in the
game).
Green Scroll: Attack increase but defense decreases.
Musou Armor: Wearer not stunned by bow attacks.
Tribal Remedy: Health recovers for every 100 enemies defeated.
Serpent Earrings: Attack increases for every 100 enemies defeated.
Naga Earrings: Defense increases for every 100 enemies defeated.
Dragon Arms: Can jump during Charge Attacks (have use these yet, but this
could be useful in canceling out attacks if you are worried about getting
counter attacked).
True Way of Musou: Strength and duration of Musou Attack increases.
Ice Arrows: Can use ice arrows.
Vampire Arms: Health restored by guarding just before an enemy attack
(timing is key).
Meat Bun sack: Defeated enemies drop meat buns at a set probability.
Kirin Hoof: Increases the strength of your mounts and tigers.
Unicorn Hoof: Speed of horses and elephants increases (new item, this
combined with a Red Hare Saddle produces ungodly speed).
Parry Scroll: Strength of parries increases (new item, a parry is a counter
attack where you press the charge attack button while you are blocking, if
you press the charge attack button right before the enemy attacks you, you
will perform a counter attack).
Siberian Collar: Begin stage accompanied by 3 tigers (new item, this item is
now very fun and very useful now that tigers are stronger in this game).

Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires /
FAQ/Walkthrough / 11. Movies
5EMMOVIE /
-----------------------------/-----------------------------------------------
/
-------------------------
The Passion of Jiang Dong
-------------------------
In order to get this movie, you need to attack Cao Cao in Pu Yang with Sun
Jian, Sun Quan, Sun Ce, and Sun Shang Xiang. The best scenario to do this in
is Dong Zhuo in Luo Yang. It takes a long while to get Sun Shang Xian in
that scenario, so you must be patient. Get close to Pu Yang or have the Hard
March policy. Once you attack Pu Yang with the entire Sun family, you will
get the movie.
------------------------------
The Alliance against Dong Zhuo
------------------------------
Complete one turn as Cao Cao, Liu Bei, or Sun Jian on the scenario Dong Zhuo
in Luo Yang while Dong Zhuo is still a force on the map.
------------
Sun Ce's Vow
------------
In order to get this movie, you need to attack Jian Ye with Sun Ce, Sun Quan,
Zhou Yu, and Zhou Tai. The easiest scenario to get this movie is the Battle
of Guan Du scenario. It makes it a lot easier if you already have the Invite
Attack policy. Here, Sun Ce already has three of the four generals and Jian
Ye is under his control. Take control of the two uninhabited areas
surrounding Jian Ye (He Fei and Hui Ji). Now, hire Zhou Tai. It should be
easy to hire him using recruit. Once you have him in your army, abandon Jian
Ye and place Sun Ce, Sun Quan, Zhou Yu, and Zhou Tai in He Fei and Hui Ji.
Now, use the Invite Attack policy on Liu Bei. He should focus on the empty
Jian Ye. If he doesn't, defend your land until he focuses on Jian Ye. Now,
he should take Jian Ye without a fight. Attack Jian Ye with Sun Ce, Sun
Quan, and Zhou Yu as the main army and Zhou Tai as the reinforcements and you
should get the movie.
-------------
A Solemn Oath
-------------
Complete one turn as Liu Bei on the scenario the Yellow Turban Rebellion
while Zhang Jiao is still a force on the map.
--------------
Three Kingdoms
--------------
In order to get this movie, after Shui Jing states that the Sleeping Dragon
and the Fledgling Phoenix is on the map, you must recruit Zhuge Liang while
Zhuge Liang is a free officer as Liu Bei. The best scenario to perform this
is the Battle of Guan Du. In order to get Shui Jing to announce the arrival
of the two strategists, you must have a good rating. Since Liu Bei starts
off in a tiny corner and has only one territory, take over Cao Cao and Yuan
Shao immediately to gain more funds. Ally yourself with all the other forces
around yourself and then start to use the Governance, Charitable Aid, and
Release policies. Eventually, Shui Jing will appear. Now, start using the
Recruit policy until Zhuge Liang appears as one of the five you are able to
recruit. Once you select him, the movie will start.

Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires /
FAQ/Walkthrough / 12. Extras
5EMEXTRA /
-----------------------------/-----------------------------------------------
/
--------------
1000 KOs Bonus
--------------
You can gain an extra item slot for your character by getting 1000 KOs on a
stage. This can be tricky sometimes, but it can be done. One of the easiest
ways to go about this is to not extend your supply line and just attack the
main base of an enemy. Since your supply line is not extended to that base,
you will never take control of the main base. Enemies will still appear at
the main base to try to defend it. If you manage to get 1000 KOs on a stage,
you will receive a star that shows you obtained 1000 KOs with that character
and an extra item slot for that character.

Artwork
-------
In the Archives, there are many different pieces of artwork that you can
obtain. I will not be listing the ways to obtain these pieces of art, as I
have no desire to unlock them all. However, there is a guide on GameFAQs
created by GreyFox200587 that does list all the requirements to unlock the
art. I highly recommend using that FAQ if you are looking to unlock the art.
It also lists how to obtain all the movies, but I will be listing the methods
to unlocking the movies in a future update.
----------------
Good/Bad Emperor
----------------
To become an Emperor in the game, you must be either a good emperor or a bad
emperor. There is no neutral emperor. In order to become a good emperor,
you must perform the good policies and hardly used any of the bad policies.
The opposite holds true from being a bad emperor. I have listed the good and
bad policies below:
Good: Governance, Charitable Aid, Release, Philanthropy
Bad: Emergency Tax, Rob Grave, Conscript, Despotism
Obviously, it's easier to become a bad emperor. However, if you perform
Philanthropy enough times, you will become a good emperor. If you are having
problems using the Philanthropy policy, create more items. The Philanthropy
policy gives away items, so you will need to create more to counteract this.

5EMFREQU /
-----------------------------/-----------------------------------------------
/
Q. I own a cheat website named www.randomcheatsiteonlyvisitedbytwopeople.com
and I was wondering can I put your guide on my site?
A. Okay, this FAQ is going up right now. The answer will be no 99 times out
of 100. GameFAQs right now is the only place that this guide will be
allowed. No, I don’t care how many visitors your site gets. No, I don’t
want your super duper ultra mega membership package. I only have the time
to keep up with one website, not 200. While I do want to help as many
people as possible, I’ve been to other FAQ websites. None of them can
come even close to the presentation and the professionalism that GameFAQs
has. None. And no, I don’t care to visit your website either. If you
send me an e-mail asking if I would like to put my guide on your website,
I will most likely respond with 3 characters: No.
Sorry to sound harsh, but that’s the fact. If I wanted to put my guide on
your website, I would have asked you to post it. Makes sense, doesn’t it?
Q. How do I obtain the question mark items?
A. Keep performing the trade policy corresponding to that region.
Eventually, it will unlock those items.
Q. How do I unlock so and so piece of art?
A. I don't really want to unlock the pieces of art in the game. I don't
feel it is important to unlock these pieces of art. Yes, they are nice,
but I don't really want to unlock them and I don't deem them important to
the game. You may think otherwise, but I don't feel it necessary to
unlock them. There is already a guide on GameFAQs that lists all the
requirements to get the artwork. I will not be listing how to unlock the
artwork in this guide.
