This FAQ is copyright 2003 by Ryoga8320.
If you wanna use this thing somewhere else, ask me first. If you decide not to
ask me and post it somewhere else anyway, I'll be fairly irate when i find out.
If it's under your name, or you put it anywhere else, you shall be delt with
accordingly. Feel free to print a copy of this FAQ for your own use, that's
why I made it. Anyway, on with the FAQ.

II. Update History
v. 0.90 -- FAQ started on April 14. I need to add a few more things, like
higher lvl weapon stats, and finish off the costumes and attacks. But after
that, there shouldn't be anything else.
v. 0.95 -- Fixed some silly miscalculations, added some weapon stats. Added
dash attack.
v. 1.00 -- Filled in some holes. Added some more attack stuff.
<=============================================================================>
III. Why use SSX?
Ok, you want to know why you should use this chick with really weird weapons.
Well first, she's got really weird weapons. But, seriously, she's a fast
character, both in running speed and attacks. She's got awesome crowd control,
just like she had in the last game. She's not overly powerful like Lu Bu, but
she can dish out damage just fine. Her damage and crowd control get better
with items like the Lightning Orb(high lvl) and a Wind Scroll.
Some downsides, kind of low hp, but higher on the defense side to compensate.
She's got bad attack range too, and some of her attacks havve some pretty bad
lag after or before them, but she makes up for it with good CC. Her mounted
attack is horrible, except that it hits on both sides with every hit, but it's
absurdly difficult to aim correctly. Her bow attack power is ok, not that she
needs it much. She's strickly an on-the-ground fighter.

IV. Info on Sun Shang Xiang
Ok, the DW4 Officer Database says:
"The daughter of the Sun clan. She is the younger sister of both Sun Ce and
Sun Quan. A somewhat manly woman, she took interest in the martial arts from
a young age. She later became Liu Bei's wife, but it is said that her
ladies-in-waiting were constantly outside her room, dressed in full armor.
Wish I had some more info on her, but if I find out anything I'll be sure to
place it further updates. (If anyone can provide me with such info, I'll give
credit where it's due. My contact info is below.)
[SSX is an initially available character]
In terms of stats, SSX is as follows:
Life: C
Musou: B Musou Charge: B
Attack: C Bow Attack: C Mounted Attack: D
Defense: A Bow Defense: C Mounted Defense: C
Speed: A
CC(crowd clearing) ability: A
These are rated on my experiences with SSX.
<=============================================================================>

5. Her DW3 costume
6. Same thing as above, with a slight palatte swap

How to get SSX lvl 10 weapon:
(Note: difficulty must be on hard, and you must already have lvl 9 weapon)
Stage: Race for the Nan Territory
Method: Defeat Wang Lang. After the event with Zhou Yu, kill Cao Ren.
Wang Lang will be straight south, if you're starting with SSX and not
using the 2 player trick. After that, the gate will open, you can go
in from there, and wait for the Zhou Yu event. As soon as he enters
the gate, it'll show him get hit with an arrow and he runs away. Kill
Cao Ren and you'll get the weapon, but you're probably gonna get a
"main camp is under attack" message, so taking the shadow harness is
a good idea.
Easy weapon to get, if you want a challenge, get Yue Ying's best weapon.
For those that don't know, lvl 10 weapons let you have orb effects without a
full musou bar. Very nice benifit, if you've got good orbs.
<=============================================================================>
VII. Harnesses, Orbs, and Items
*Harness*
(Get a harness as soon as possible, they'll make your life easier)
Red Hare Harness -- Red Hare is the fastest horse in the game, it's also got
the best trample damage :) I personally use this one more often than not.
Speed is good for any character.
Hex Mark Harness -- Hex Mark is Liu Bei's Horse. This is the 3rd fastest
horse, unless I'm mistaken. The saddle gives a Luck bonus too. I've never
noticed luck having that much of an effect, so I don't use this one.
Shadow Harness -- Shadow Runner, Cao Cao's horse. Second fastest horse in the
game, and the greatest part...with this harness you can't be knocked off of
the horse by anything, except, ex: a boulder from Yellow Turban Rebellion.
Storm Harness -- Another one of Cao Cao's horses. This harness increases your
mounted attack power. I've never used this one. SSX has a horrible time
fighting on a horse, this harness is made for Ma Chao.
Elephant Harness -- If you like elephants, go ahead and use it. I never will.
*Orbs*
Orbs are new to DW4. If you've played DW3 and gotten the 4th weapons, most
had an element on them, be it fire, lightning, or vorpal.(Of course, vorpal
always took effect in the last game.) Now there are orbs, so that anyone can
have any element.
Fire: This shaves health off the enemy for a short period. The damage
increases as you get higher lvl orbs. Very useful.
Lightning: My personal favorite. Causes a lightning bolt to hit the enemy
that was struck by your attack, hurting all those around him. If you have a
good crowd clearing attack (ahem, SSX), then this makes it that much better.
The lightning damage increases as the orb gets higher lvl. Awesome little toy.
Note: Lightning orb isn't as fun when trying to lvl your weapon, due to the
fact that the lightning damage registers after your hit, so if the lightning
kills the officer, you don't get the xp.
Vorpal: This one's nice as well, but only if you can find a high enough lvl
one. Of course, the best is lvl 4, and that's what you want. If you don't
like the lightning orb, this is the next best thing. It has a chance of
killing enemy soldiers instantly (goes up with orb lvl) and it does extra
(noticible)damage to officers(goes up with orb lvl). I'd use it if mine was
high lvl, but it isn't :(
Ice: This one has a chance of freezing people. Frozen people also have lower
defense. The duration of the freeze, and amount the defense is lowered by
increase with orb level. I'd stick with Lightning/Fire, or Vorpal if SSX
is doing enough damage.
Blast: This makes damage go through blocks, though the damage is negligible.
I never use this orb, no point to it, just go around their defense.
Poison: Poisons enemies, lowering their defense. This thing is pretty much
useless, tried it out once, the duration of the poison is so short, that you
haven't recovered from your attack and it's already gone, so I'd avoid this one
*Items*
*Basic Items*
Peacock Urn: Increases Life total. When starting out, by all means, use this
thing. Having uber HP at the beginning is a very good perk, though I'd rather
have a tortoise amulet. If I could only have one item that is.
Dragon Amulet: Increases Musou bar. This item was better in the last game,
until you get your 10th weapon in this one. Until you get your 10th weapon
though, you want a short bar. The shorter the bar, the faster it fills, and
you can get your orb effects back faster that way.
Tiger Amulet: Increases Attack power. You should always have this equipped,
unless you've already filled the slots with a peacock urn and tortoise amulet.
This isn't like the one in the last game, the attack boost now, is quite
noticible, and makes one hell of a difference.
Tortoise Amulet: Increases Defense. The god of all basic items, you should
always have this equipped, if you don't feel free to beat yourself with a 2x4.
Once you get a high lvl Tortoise amulet, the defense bonus is a huge chunk on
bar. Really great item.
Speed Scroll: Increases running speed. Good if you don't have anything better
but SSX is already fast enough. (Won't need it if you have a harness)
Wing Boots: Increases jump ability. Why would anyone use this? If jumping
truly had a point other than knocking people off elephants/horses, then maybe
i could see using this. Though my Zhang He in the last game (with 4th weapon,
cuz it gave a HUGE jump bonus) could almost jump over a fort wall with these.
Huang's Bow: Increases Bow Attack. Only really good on Xiahou Yuan/Huang Zhong.
Hence the name HUANG's bow.
Nanman Armor: Increases Bow Defense. If this was DW3, I'd wouldn't have to
say use this, because you'd be dead from archer fire before the stage started.
Bow damage has been significantly decreased since the last game.(Thank god)
So, this item isn't as useful anymore, toss it on the heap.
Horned Helm: Increases Mounted Attack. Since SSX has such a horrible attack
while riding (not damage wise, the attack itself), this is useless on her.
This thing (along with Cavalry Armor) was made for Ma Chao.
Cavalry Armor: Increases Mounted Defense. No point to SSX having this either.
Seven Star Sash: Increases Luck. I haven't found any real changes with this
item equipped, contact me if you know anything about it.
Elixir: Increases Musou Charge. A very nice item, if it's high level. Some
items are OK at lower levels, but this one just plain out sucks at low levels.
Once it's higher though, the difference is quite noticible. This gives you a
reason to use the Dragon Amulet.
Herbal Remedy: Increases Charge Attack power. This is a new item to DW4.
I don't use it that much because I don't notice that much of a difference, but
if you do, go right ahead, extra attack power is always nice.
*Special Items*
Art of War: Doubles duration Temporary in-battle power-ups. Some people say
this items sucks, but I find it to be quite useful. It's saved me a few times,
in the last game that is. It's actually better in this game.
Survival Guide: Double Attack when near death. Not that great, because you
shouldn't get near death in the first place. It give the Attack x2 bonus when
your character is knocked down.
Bodyguard Manual: Makes bodyguards stronger. I know it makes them stronger,
but i don't know in what aspect, if anyone can tell me, contact me please.
Way of Musou: True Musou attack regardless of life. This was a great item in
DW3, but True Musou attacks in DW4 aren't as effective. Still a nice item.
Power Scroll: Never lose weapon blocks. Learn how to spam a button, or buy
a turbo controller, this item's is a waste.
Wind Scroll: Increases Attack Range. If you have this item and it isn't
equipped, shame on you. SSX needs this item, but she's fine without it. This
is probably the best out of the special items
Fire Arrows: Gives arrows fire element. Just like Huang's Bow, only good on
Huang or Xiahou Yuan.
Charge Bracer: Charge attacks unstoppable by normal attacks. If you find
yourself using alot of charge attacks, and getting knocked out of them often,
then this item is quite useful. But if you're not getting knocked out of them
enough to matter, don't bother.
Well, that's all for the items, I'll give ya my recommendations on em in the
next section.

B. Getting the best out of Sun Shang Xiang
Ok, now that I've given the game info about SSX, i might as well say my piece
to help you people out. Here I'll give my personal recommendations for items,
attacks, etc.
Alright, first off, when fully leveled to MAX rank, SSX has 5 item slots.
Though I, like everyone else, would prefer to have 6, you take what you can
get. So, on with it.
As for the items i recommend, here they are:
1. Harness: Red Hare Harness/Shadow Harness
2. Orb: Lightning (any lvl helps)/Vorpal (High lvl only)
3. Items 1-5: Tortoise Amulet
Tiger Amulet
Wind Scroll
Peacock Urn
Dragon Amulet/Elixir
You should never have more than 3 slots open for whatever you want to put in
them, because you should always have the Tortoise Amulet and Tiger Amulet
taking up 2 of your slots. I would also suggest a peacock urn, though her
defense makes up for the lower hp, it's still nice to have extra hp, in the
event that you get jumped by 2-4 officers each with 15-20 guards. That'll
leave you with 2 slots. If you have the Wind Scroll, by all means use that
thing. That makes 1 open slot to do with as you please. Personally, I
usually put the elixir/dragon amulet in the last slot, because i like eye candy
and musou is eye candy.
If she has more than enough defense to take hits like Lu Bu does, then you'll
have an extra slot. Equip the elixir/dragon amulet in the blank spot(whichever
one you didn't equip). SSX is now a musou monster.
If you're not up to huge musou madness or you don't have her 10th weapon, then
equip the seven star sash, I use it as a place holder, I think it makes enemies
drop more meat buns/temp power-ups but i'm not sure. Or if you have it, and
don't really feel like fighting much, equip the bodyguard manual, and if you
have maxed bodyguards, it'll be like having 8 mini officers following you
around. Quite fun i might add.
About her attacks, her C4 and C6 should be used almost exclusively. They are
her best crowd clearing attacks. In this newest installment of the DW series,
her C3 is alot better, just like everyone elses. The only problem with it is
the severe amount of lag at the end. Also, if she gets hit before she can
attack again, it'll immediately OTG her. (OTG is off-the-ground for those that
don't know.)
If you're looking to level up really fast, the best thing to do, is do Act I
and II of the musou mode, then do free battle at battle of chi bi. For the
best results, let the fire attack fail. This will let you get A LOT of kills,
because it's very easy to get over 1000 kills here, plus there's 18 officers
to kill (playing as Wu or Shu). So, plenty of kills, plenty of Weapon XP, and
plenty of stats. Chi Bi has always been one of the better stages.
Once Chi Bi is a bit too weak (or has gotten tedious), Yi Ling (Shu forces) is
another really great battle. The Qiao sisters (even on normal difficulty)
still give +8 defense each, that's +16 defense for 2 kills on normal diff.
Plus, later in the stage, you fight Lu Xun, and he gives another +8 defense.
24 defense in that stage to tack onto SSX's kinda low starting defense.
There's also something like +20 attack in there too, spread amongst
mini-officers and Lu Meng.
But do that for a little, and SSX should be quite powerful. At any rate, on
with it.

IX. Q&A section
Q. Why a Sun Shang Xiang FAQ?
A. It hasn't been done yet, and I was bored. Plus she's an awesome character,
and my favorite in DW3. Well, her and Wei Yan (and Yue Ying).
Q. I did the stuff for SSX's lvl 10 weapon, but i didn't get it. What's wrong?
A. Well, first off, make sure it's in Hard difficulty, secondly, make sure your
weapon is, in fact, level 9. Also, make sure you personally kill all the
required enemy generals. If it still isn't working then you must've done
something wrong. Consult Muni Shinobu's Walkthrough for all the lvl 10 weapon
methods, and Life/Musou +10 locations, if you want to know that too.
Q. I don't have all the costumes, what gives?
A. You need to get your rank to MAX.
Q. Where can i get <insert item here>?
A. I don't know, check another FAQ.
Q. You missed something, how do I contact you?
A. Scroll down.
Q. <Insert random question about DW4 not pertaining to SSX>
A. Contact me, for how, see previous questions answer.

her best weapon today.
GameFAQs: For posting this, of course.
All FAQ writers: Your FAQ's have been helpful, for when I'm, rarely, stuck in
certain parts. Also, for giving me ideas on how to write mine
and, last but not least, you: for reading this jumble of programming.
