NOTE: This guide is designed for the European version of the game, "Bujingai:
Swordmaster" and since I have not played any other version of the game there
may be changes not mentioned, or explained differently in this FAQ.

Below is a formatting test to allow you to ensure that you are using the
correct formatting for this FAQ. If you are, you should be using the Courier
New font, and the following three lines of characters must end at the same
point:
Bujingai was a game announced by Taito way back in 2003. The man you see on the
front cover is a Japanese pop sensation called Gackt and the main character of
this game, Lau, was modelled and voice acted by Gackt himself. If you do not
know who Gackt is then look below to find out. The game was released for the
Playstation 2 on Christmas Day of 2003 in Japan and sold quite well, which
brought the game eventually to American shores. Just when we thought we would
once again miss out on a perfectly good game it finally came out over here on
European shores on February 18th 2005 under the name "Bujingai: Swordmaster".
Of course, the lack of Gackt's presence in the mainstream media over here
forced the game to become what I see as a sleeper hit, and I would imagine
the majority of you who are reading this are actually Gackt fans. The game was
not advertised at all (or if there was, there was very little) and even I, who
has been anticipating the game since it was first announced in 2003 never knew
of it's existance here until around the start of March 2005. Anyway, enough of
my endless babbling, and let's talk about who Gackt is.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~~~~{01.1}~{Gackt?}~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~{itdn10}~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gackt is, as said above, a pop sensation of Japan. He has many fans (the
majority of which are raging fangirls) and is well known around Japan. He has
his own band named GacktJOB, which is mostly made up of friends from high
school and he writes and composes all of his own music. He has so far released
six albums, and two compilations from his solo career and has also appeared in
a few films, his most well-known one being "Moonchild" where he played the lead
role along with L'Arc~en~Ciel's Hyde. He has appeared in many commercial
campeigns and interviews and he's just generally famous in Japan. His first
major band was the "visual kei" band Malice Mizer, which he joined in 1993, but
they are nowhere near as famous as Gackt is now.
In Bujingai, Lau Wong is voiced by Gackt and even his character model is
modelled after the man and this factor is probably the biggest selling point
of the game all over the world.

In the year 22XX a rain of nuclear fire ended the age of A.D. and from there
the Martial Age (M.A.) began. The world suffered immense radiation which
resulted in the spawn of demons. A man named Lau Wong was born on
Kenkisoukentou, an island greatly affected by radiation. When Lau was very
young, the demons killed Lau's parents, and soon he met with Master Naguri, a
sensei who has reached the ultimate level of swordsmanship and Wushu. Lau
became Naguri's pupil and attained a great deal of power from the skills his
sensei taught him, enough power to take on even the greatest of demons.
Training with him was a man named Rei Jenron who was a great friend to Lau.
One day a woman who Rei loved was killed by demons, and Rei swore revenge,
even if it meant he himself became a demon.
2600 years later Rei was overwhelmed by the demons, and indeed he did become
one.Lau tried desperately to stop him but was beaten, and sent to a parallel
dimension for 400 years. During these 400 years Lau trained hard to one day
defeat Rei for becoming a monster and now he has been released from the
prison dimension. The year is now 674 M.A. His duty now is to return to
Kenkisoukentou and hunt down Rei Jenron.
Lau Wong is the main character in Bujingai, and the character that you control
the whole way through. He was born on the island of Kenkisoukentou where he
lived until his parents were killed by demons. Master Naguri found him and
raised him in the arts Wushu and swordsmanship where he trained alongside
Rei Jenron. After Rei's love was killed by demons, Rei left the Houmadera to
seek revenge and was turned into a demon. When Lau fought him, he lost, and was
sent to an alternate dimension for 400 years where he trained to become the
greatest swordsman and defeat Rei's demon.
Rei Jenron is the main villian in Bujingai. He trained alongside Lau Wong at
the Houmadera with Master Naguri, but when his love Yohfa was killed he wanted
to seek revenge on the demons, even if it meant becoming a demon himself.
Rei was defeated by the demons and became one of them. When Master Naguri and
Lau tried to kill the demon Rei slain his master, and Lau was sent to an
alternate dimension. Rei still wanders in search of Yohfa and will not stop
until he finds her but since he is a demon now he may do something he doesn't
want to do.
Naguri is a legendary warrior who has mastered the ultimate level in Wushu and
swordsmanship. He took Lau as his pupil after demons killed his parents and
also trained Rei Jenron. When Rei became a demon, Naguri tried to kill the
demon inside of him but was killed by Rei.
Not much is known about Yohfa other than she is Rei's ex-lover. When demons
killed her Rei set out to take revenge but became a demon himself. He still
searches for Yohfa's soul and will stop at nothing to find it. What he will
do with it now he is a demon is unknown but Lau must stop him.

Options
Choosing "Play Game" prompts you to choose between two difficulties: Easy, or
Medium to begin with (if you are starting off it's always best to choose easy).
Choosing "Options" will bring you to a new screen, described below.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Options~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When you select this screen, you will be prompted with six different options.
These options allow you change different parts of the game to suit your method
of play:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Control Settings
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here, you may change the control configuration for the game. Use the up and
down arrows to select the command and then use the left and right buttons on
your Playstation controller to change the button required for each action.
NOTE: This game requires the use of the analogue sticks, therefore a
DualShock or a DualShock 2 controller (or any third party analogue Playstation
controller) must be used.
Below is the default configuration:
Attack : Square
Special Attack : Triangle
Cast Spell : Circle
Jump : X
Lock-On : R1
Adjust Camera : R2
Switch Target : L1
Radar Display : L2
Select "Default Settings to change your custom configuration back to this at
any time, and "Exit" to go back to the previous screen.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Vibration Settings
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here you can switch the vibration function on your Playstation controller on or
off by selecting the corresponding option. By default the vibration settings
are ON.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Display Settings
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Within this option you may alter 2 things. You can change the "Screen
Brightness Settings" and the "Screen Placement Settings".
By choosing "Screen Brightness Settings" you are taken to a screen with a
fading line of white, red, green and blue. Using this as a guide you should
adjust the brightness levels on your television so that all parts of the lines
are invisible below the orange bar. This is optional, but it enhances gameplay
slightly.
By going to "Screen Placement Settings" you can change the position of the
visible screen. By adjusting the horizontal and vertical axes you can use this
to centre your screen, as some television sets can be slightly off. To return
to the default set both axes to "00".
You can return to the previous screen by selecting "Return to Previous Screen".
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sound Settings
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here you can change various audio settings depending on your television and
preferences.
By selecting "Volume Settings" you can change the volume levels for the
Background Music (BGM), the Sound Effects and the Voices. By default all levels
are at 90%.
By selecting "Acoustics Settings" you can change the sound to either Stereo or
Mono, depending on both your preference and your available sound from your
television. Some older or smaller television sets may only output one channel
of sound and therefore selecting Stereo could reduce the sound quality.
You can return to the previous screen by selecting "Return to Previous Screen".
If you wish to change everything back to the default settings select "Default
Settings" and select YES. Choose "Exit" to leave the Options Menu.
Everytime you return to this menu after you start the first real stage, the
options here will change very slightly.

In this section I will go over the in-game menus and screens of the game.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Main Game Screen~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The main screen you will see when you play Bujingai is the game screen. This
screen shows the gameplay and flow of the stages in the game. Below is a brief
ASCII drawing of the main screen:
The Health Guage is shown in-game by a yellow bar. Once this yellow bar turns
100% black then Lau will be killed and it will be Game Over.
The Swordplay Guage shows how many times you can Swordplay a demon before you
are unable to stop it from hurting you. This will happen when all of the silver
"petals" disappear. If this guage does not decrease more over time it will
slowly recover. If you finish a combo with a special pose, a symbol will
cover this guage and you may recieve a better score at the end of the stage.
The Spell Guage shows you everything you need about your Spells. The purple
guage is a meter of how much spellpower you have left. Once this guage turns
100% black you will not be able to use skills unless you recover this meter.
The ball next to the meter shows you which skill you currently have equipped.
More information about this is in the Spells section.
The Consecutive Hit Counter shows you how high a combo you have reached. This
goes back to zero once you are attacked.
The Radar Display is the only form of map Lau has. The only information the
radar contains is the direction of your travel, any special items and the next
door leading to the next area. This should be used very carefully as it does
not show any walls or demons in the vacinity.
Like Lau demons have a Health Guage, and like Lau this guage will deplete as
you attack it. Once the guage fully depletes the demon will die.
Some stronger demons (like bosses) also have a Swordplay Guage, and it works
exactly the same way as Lau's.
In the corner you will find another meter. This is your Reijyo meter. As you
collect more Reijyo this meter will increase and you can use them at the
Power-Up menu later.

<>~Pause Screen~<>

By pressing Start on your controller you will pause the game. You are given 3
options in this menu. You can either "Continue", "Return to the Houmadera" or
"End Game" (The "Return to the Houmadera" option is not there if you are doing
Stage 1 for the first time or are at the Houmadera).
By selecting "Continue" you will resume your game.
By selecting "Return to the Houmadera" you will end the current stage and be
transported to the Houmadera. You can return to the same area you were in by
choosing it from the Portal menu.
By selecting "End Game" you will be asked if you wish to save, and then you

There are several ways to move and jump around in this game. Below I will
describe everything you need to move around in the world of Bujingai. Please
note that I am using the default configuration for this.
To start off with, you must use the left analogue stick in this game. The D-Pad
is only used to navigate menus.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Basic Movements~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
These are the essential things you must know in order to get through the game.
A must know for this game is that by moving the right analogue stick you can
change the direction of the camera. This does not work when locked-on to a
demon however.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Running & Walking
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To run, simple push the left analogue stick in the direction you want Lau to
go. To walk, simply push the left analogue stick only slightly, instead of the
full way.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jumping & Climbing
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To jump, press the X button. If you hold the left analogue stick in a
direction and press X, Lau will jump in the direction you are facing.
If you pull back on the left analogue stick and press X at the same time, Lau
will perform a 180degree backflip, and land facing the opposite direction.
Similarly, holding the stick left or right and pressing X will make Lau do a
sideflip and face in the direction you want him.
If you are facing a wall there are a few ways of getting up. The most basic
of these is to face the wall, jump against it. If the ledge above is low
enough, Lau will grab onto it. Press X and Lau will lift himself up on top of
the ledge. You may find that there may be a few things to grab onto before you
reach the top. To pass this you must simply press and hold X to grab the other
ledges just like Lau will get himself up. You can also do this to hang onto
poles and jump on top of them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Advanced Jumps~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
By performing these jumps you will add more points to your Dramatic Action
Points at the end of the stage.
~~~~~~~~~
Wall Jump
~~~~~~~~~
To perform a Wall Jump, jump against a wall, and when you hit it, hold the
analogue stick in the opposite direction and press X again. By doing this jump
you will do a 180degree turn and land facing the other way. This can be useful
when needing to escape demons.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Triangle Jump
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To do a Triangle Jump, jump against the wall like in the Wall Jump, and press
X. You will do a 180degree turn and jump to a higher point. This can be useful
when trying to climb high places as you can use this many times without
touching the ground.
~~~~~~~~~~
Swing Jump
~~~~~~~~~~
To perform a Swing Jump you must first be hanging onto a pole. While hanging,
hold forward and press X to make Lau swing forward. If there is another pole
infront of him he will hang onto it. Useful to get over large gaps easily.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Advanced Movement~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
By performing these moves you will add more points to your Dramatic Action
Points at the end of the stage.
~~~~~~~~~
Air Glide
~~~~~~~~~
While in mid-air, press X again to make Lau glide in the air for roughly 2
seconds. While gliding Lau's speed will increase and fron the Air Glide you
can go into an attack or other technique.
~~~~~~~~
Wall Run
~~~~~~~~
There are 2 types of wall run. The vertical wall run and the horizontal wall
run. To perform the vertical wall run, jump against a wall, hold forward and
press and hold X. Lau will run up the wall, allowing you to reach higher
places.
The second type of wall run is the horizontal wall run. To do this, face the
direction of the wall you want to run along, jump and then hold up and press
and hold X. Lau will run along the wall for a short period of time.
Use this to reach places you cannot reach by simple jumping.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Lock-On~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To lock-on to a demon, hold R1. While holding R1 you will follow the target's
movement and will always face it. If an enemy attacks you from the front while
it is locked on it will initiate either a Swordplay or Spell Defense, depending
on the attack. More information on this later.
When you are holding R1, you can also strafe around a demon. By pressing X and
the direction you want to go Lau will strafe either forward, left, right or
backwards. This is useful for avoiding spells and attacks, and can also get you
around to the back of a demon where it cannot resist.
To change your target, press L1 and Lau will cycle through the demons in the
area.

<>~~~{05.5}~{Spells}~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~{htpy05}~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In Bujingai you will be able to use and master a variety of different magic
spells that can be used in different situations. These spells consume SP (Spell
Points) fast and some more quickly than others. Below I will give you a list
of all the spells found in the game, their use, where to find them and their
possible levels.
To use the spells, press the Circle button on your Playstation 2 controller.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Gouenken~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Level 1 Found: Lau already has this at the start of the game
Level 2 Found: Stage 4
Level 3 Found:
The Gouenken spell is a fire-based spell that fires a flame at a demon and
surrounds it. The higher the level this is the larger range this spell has.
The Souryuuken is a nice little technique in which Lau dives at a demon,
spinning into it (or them) with his swords before slicing the demon in front
of him with both of his swords in a horizontal cut.
The Dankuuken spell attacks your targeted demon with a vertical shockwave. Lau
spins in the air and slashes his swords which create a shockwave heading
straight towards the enemy.
The Ryouseiken spell is a ranged attack in which Lau fires a magical array of
arrows into a target. The arrows fly in a pincer shape, with several coming
from each side. The arrows will hurt anything that crosses their path.
This is the big one. The most powerful spell in the game, and the one that uses
most of your Spell Points. It uses up a whopping 980 Spell Points, so unless
you have maxed your Spell Guage, you'll only be using this attack once before
you need to recharge.
This attack hurts multiple demons, and Lau fires a magical arrow that reins
down on them from above. Because of this, it can't be Spell Defended. Only
use this when you realyl need to.
This spell, like Tenseiken, uses up most of your Spell Points, so only use it
when you really need to.
Jinbuken summons a number of swords that circle Lau. Unfortunately they don't
harm anything they touch, but if you press Circle again Lau will fire all of
them towards your targetted demon and cause devastating damage.
The Senranken spell creates a whirlwind around Lau, which damages anything
around him and throws them into the air. The higher level this is increases
the radius of the whirlwind, damaging demons further away.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Tekkuken~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Level 1 Found: Stage 1 - Area 5
- 6 Spell Points per second
The Tekkuken spell uses Spell Points to allow Lau's physical strength increase.
As soon as you select it, the spell will activate itself and your Spell Guage
will slowly deplete so be careful. During this time Lau will glow bright with
an orange aura to show you that the spell is activated. The spell will end
when Lau's Spell Guage is emptied.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Gaisenken~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Level 1 Found: Stage 2 - Area 3
- 6 Spell Points per second
Gaisenken is an alright spell, but not the best. Like Tekkuken it drains your
Spell Guage slowly rather than consumes it in set amounts, but instead of
increasing your attack it increases your defense. This can prove useful when
you get into swordfights with tougher demons, but once you get to maximum
defense it is literally useless.
If a demon attacks you from the front, and you are not in the middle of an
attack or jump Lau will perform what is known as a Recieval. It is his first
form of defense against attack and he will use it so long as your Defense Guage
is not fully depleted. From here you can do one of teo things; you can either
go into Swordplay or you can Evade. To evade, press X and Lau will jump
himself out of the demon's attack range. This can be useful if you want to
get behind a demon and attack it from behind, rendering it defenseless.
To go into Swordplay, press the Square the button while being attacked. When
in Swordplay, you and your enemy will initiate a swordfight which can look
pretty spectacular. By repeatedly pressing Square you will stay in Swordplay
mode until one of you either evades or gets the other's Defense Guage to zero.
Once one of you have depleted the other's Defense Guage you will be to
attack the other without it being able to defend itself. You will be getting
into numerous swordfights throughout the game with many demons and so
mastering the swordfight and when to evade etc. can prove very useful against
highly defensive demons.
To evade while in the middle of Swordplay, press the X button and Lau will get
himself out, and you will be able to attack almost straight after.
Many demons are able to throw projectiles your way, or fire some sort of spell
in your direction. In these cases, instead of going into Swordplay you will
perform a Spell Recieval which acts in the same way as a Swordplay Revieval.
From this technique, however, you will be able to respond with a Spell Defense
or an Evasion. To evade, just press X and you will get yourself out of the
projectile's fire. But if you press Square repeatedly you will go into a Spell
Defense.
A Spell Defense works similar to the Swordplay. In this mode you will block the
oncoming attack and will deplete your Defense Guage by doing so. If you keep
defending the spell once your Defense Guage has depleted you will be hit by
the spell to watch your Defense Guage.
A Spell Defense can lead to another thing though; a Spell Counter. When you
defend against a spell you will notice that your Spell Guage flips around,
glows white and starts charging the other way. This is called the Spell
Counter Guage and proves very useful against demons. When your Spell Defense
Guage rises and meets with your Spell Guage metre your Spell Counter Guage will
flash red. When it does this, press Circle to unleash a powerful counter that
will damage demons greatly. This attack is usually the main basis of my boss
strategies and so mastering it can prove very useful.
There is one drawback about the Spell Counter however. It totally depletes
your Spell Guage, and you will have to start refilling it if you wish to use
another spell. The other thing is that if you increase your Spell Guage it
will take longer to charge your Spell Counter guage, which is the reason I will
never say it's best to increase your Spell Guage. If you plan on using spells
a lot then go ahead, but for my style of play it isn't the most essential
thing to upgrade.
Note that you can also get out of a Spell Defense in the same manner as Evading
by pressing the X button.
There are many items in Bujingai that you must collect in your journey. Most
are key items which are needed to move on through the game, some are spell
items that allow you to cast different spells while some are just general
items that you will find by breakng crates, pots or by defeating demons.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Reijyu~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Reijyu are the blue orbs that you will find all over the island. These blue
orbs are your experience points which you can spend at the Houmadera to
upgrade different aspects of your abilities. You can find these almost
anywhere and are found in every pot and are dropped by almost every demon.
The small Reijyu are worth 1 point while the larger Reijyu are worth 10.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Konjyu~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
These are the green orbs. They are only found in Area 3 of Seirinkyou and are
used to unseal the gate at the end. You can only find them by breaking the
bamboo sticks and gradually disappear so you must hurry when collecting them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Rikisentan~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
These are the yellow orbs, and they restore about 1000 Health Points. These
will be much rarer in some stages than others and can be found inside crates,
ice blocks and are sometimes dropped by tougher demons.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Yousentan~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
These are the pinkish/purple orbs. These orbs replenish your Spell Guage by
about 500 Spell Points and are much more common than the Rikisentan. These
are only found in crates, and are not dropped by demons.
On the island of Kenkisoukentou you will find many demons. These demons are
formed from the radiation left over from the nuclear fire in 22XX A.D. and
no one knows why they exist or what their purpose is. All that they know, is
that you are their enemy, and they will try to kill you. Some demons are more
powerful than others and there are a variety of different species of demon and
a few different types within a species. Below is a list of all the demons and
a description of each. They go in order of the Character Viewer list in the
Special Options menu to the best I can put them at the moment.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Hinkyonshi Kou~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
These demons are the most basic demon. They are made up of 6 different parts,
most of which are hardly connected to their body. Their arms float beside their
shoulders and their upper torso is connected to their pelvis via a massive
stake which goes through their back. Their legs are connected in a similar
fashion to the arms, although their are stakes stabbing out from the sides of
their pelvis. Their feet are made up of a rounded blade which has been cut in
half. Their face is covered by a black and white ying-yang symbol and their
main body colour is green.
These guys carry around with them a long sword and are quite easy to kill as
their Health Guage is small and thei strength is weak. A single combo should
take of them.
beat, even at the start of the game.
These demons are an upgrade of the Kou. They are made up of 6 different parts,
most of which are hardly connected to their body. Their arms float beside their
shoulders and their upper torso is connected to their pelvis via a massive
stake which goes through their back. Their legs are connected in a similar
fashion to the arms, although their are stakes stabbing out from the sides of
their pelvis. Their feet are made up of a rounded blade which has been cut in
half. Their face is covered by a black and green ying-yang symbol and their
main body colour is a blueish grey.
These guys carry around with them a crossbow and attack from far away. They are
even easier to kill than their Kou counterparts as they have even less Health
and take a lot of time between attacks.
A faster version of the Hinkyonshi-Otsu, these demons carry with them a long
sword which has been shaped with a rounded edge with a sharp spike at the blunt
end. Like the other Hinkyonshi types, these can still be killed pretty easily.
Like the original Hinkyonshi-Kou, these Kou carry a sword. The sword is a much
more powerful sword a spiked blade to force into it's prey. It's health is
a little higher than the other Hinkyonshi but should still be no problem to
beat.
speed, but still does not have a defense guage.
The Goukyonshi species take on more of a human form than the Hinkyonshi. They
cover up their lower half with clothes by leave their chest unclad. They wear
gauntlets on both hands and wear a large hat with a piece of material that
completely covers their face. Their body is a blueish colour while their
clothes are a green/cream colour.
Like the Hinkyonshi-Kou these guys carry a long sword. Their health is slightly
higher than the Hinkyonshi but they aren't any more deadly. The only
difference I have noticed with them is that they jump around a lot to try and
evade your attacks.
<>~Bhandra~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bhandra's are demons, but they're hardly deadly. Their only attack fires a
beam of light and travels in a straight line dealing small damage.
They have 2 uses that help Lau in his journey however. They can be used to
help Lau get across a large gap by attacking them in mid-air and dealing a
combo on them. This lets both of them travel over a distance until it is
killed.
The other use is when Kyukoku are around. One strike from them kills them
and with them the Kyukoku will die.

These are not really demons, but are wooden practice dummies. They are only

<>~Keikyonshi~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Keikyonshi look exactly like the Goukyonshi species, except they are red
and they are much larger than the Goukyonshi. You can tell if a Goukyonshi is
nearby by the sounds of it's footsteps running towards you.
The Goukyonshi carries with it a very large spiked club which is just about
as big as it is. It can run faster than many demons and swings it club at you
constantly. Recievals, Swordplay and aerial combos are a sure-fire way to kill
this thing.
<>~Kyukoku Kou~<>
These bird-like creatures can be annoying. They are somewhat rainbow in colour
These gelatinous demons lurk in the water and you cannot attack it until it
it will consume you and hurt you.
<>~Hyakkitaikou Kou~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The boss of Boukyougai. This guy just appears out of nowhere and challenges
Lau. He is a pretty simple boss that weilds a sword and and has very large
white hair. Use Swordplay to get his defenses down and beat him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Toutetsu~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The boss of Seirinkyou and Rakanin. It is a massive creature, about 4 or 5
times as tall as Lau that shoots lasers from it's mouth and can summon rubble.
It looks sort of like a Minotaur, except it has a boney ram head. It can
pack quite a punch. Use Spell Counters to beat it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Kyuuki~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
The boss of Gabouun. It is a spectral dragon that is about 100 times the
height of Lau when stretched out completely. It uses it's huge head to ram
into Lau and uses it to attack him. It can also summon ice shards and fire a
powerful laser from it's mouth. Patience and concentration are the keys to
this fight.
Whenever you finish a stage, you will see a screen telling you how well you did
in that stage. The first screen gives you information about different aspects
of the stage, and next to it will be your rank going from Scum, to Beginner, to
Intermediate, to Advanced and finally to Master.
The different aspects that affect your score are:
Maximum Consecutive Hits
Dramatic Action Points
Damage Taken from Enemies
Completion Time
Reijyu Collected
Retry Count
Your maximum consecutive hits are the amount of the hits you give without being
hurt.
The Dramatic Action Points come from different poses and techniques that you
can perform to look good. There are many of them, and I will post some later
in this FAQ.
The damage taken from enemies is the cumulative damage you have recieved in
total throughout the stage, whether or not you have healed.
The completion time is the time it has taken you to complete the stage.
Your Reijyu Collected count is the amount of blue Reijyu orbs you have
collected within a stage.
The Retry Count is the amount of times you have died and chosen "Continue" at
Game Over.
The next screen tells you your overall rank from Scum to Master and gives you
a gameplay rank. I have not had anything higher or lower than a B but I will
assume that there will be S, A, B, C, D, E, S being the highest rank possible.
You are also given an amount of bonus Reijyu which will depend on your rank.
This is added to your total Reijyu for use in upgrading Lau's abilities.
After you complete the first real stage of the game (Boukyougai) you will be
able to return to the temple where you trained with Master Naguri and Rei
called the Houmadera.
Getting there is easy. Once you complete a stage you are automatically
tranported here, and you can also get here by selecting "Return to the
Houmadera" from the in-game pause menu.
You can do a variety of things here. To start off with there is the temple
itself. By going inside, you will see a Kigara to practice combat skills with,
and a shrine at the rear end of the hall that allows you to go over any parts
of the game that you need revising.
If you look outside the temple you will see what looks to be some form of
training ground. Here, you are able to practice performing all your jumps, and
other applied movement skills as well as collect a few Reijyu.
Just down the steps from the temple are portals. These portals are
your gateway to the stages in the game, and also your path to powering up. You
can power up from any of the portals, but each portal holds different stages
which you can access at any time (you must have reached a stage before
unlocking it however).
Portal 1 (Orange)
- Stages 1, 2 & 3
Portal 2 (Blue)
- Stages 4, 5 & 6
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~~Power-Up Settings~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
By selecting this from the portal menu you are able to "upgrade" 5 different
parts of you. In order to upgrade, you must have collected those little blue
orbs in the stages. These are called "Reijyu" and are the equivalent to
experience. The 5 different upgradable features are:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Increase Ryugatou Level
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Your Ryugatou level is your strength. The higher the level your Ryugatou is,
the faster your attacks will be, and the stronger. This is an essential
power-up.
These requirements may differ from difficulty, but until I make sure I will
just say that these are the Easy level requirements.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Increase Tenreiken Level
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Your Tenreiken level is your magic level. The higher your Tenreiken level is,
the more damage your magic skills will do. You will also be able to use higher
level skills e.g. you must be level 2 to use Level 2 skills and so on. Not the
most essential thing to upgrade if you are more of a melee fighter.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Increase Health
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pretty self-explanatory. Upgrading this increases your health guage, so you can
withstand more damage before being killed. This is essential later on in the
game when the demons are much tougher to kill.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Increase Magic
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Upgrading this increases your Spell guage, allowing you to use more magic
skills before you must refill somehow. The downside to this is that it means
your Counter Spell guage must fill up more, meaning it will take longer to
perform a Counter Spell.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Increase Defense
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This increases your Swordplay guage by 1 point every level making a maximum of
10 points at Level 4. This means that you can use the Swordplay for longer, and
you can try and charge your Counter Spell guage more.
*When you use 400 Reijyu on your defense level to reach this point, it will not
yet have reached level 2. I am unsure if this is a glitch or if it is because
Level 2 should start at 600 Reijyu but on my game it still stays at Level 1
here. If you know why this is, please tell me.
In order to save your game progress in Bujingai you must have at least 1020kB
free space on your Playstation 2 memory card. This seems much but there are a
number of things that are saved in the game. Your memory card also be in memory
card slot 1.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Saving~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
You can access the save menu in 2 ways. First of all, by selecting "End Game"
from the in-game pause menu you will be asked if you wish to save your
progress. The other way of accessing the save menu is by completing a stage.
After you complete a stage, and before you return to the Houmadera you be
prompted to save then also. This means you can pretty much save whenever and
wherever you want.
Once you get to the save menu you can select any of the 8 save slots to save.
This means you can have a seperate save from your friends or family.
When you save the following information is displayed:
Location
Play Time
Game Difficulty
Number of Saves
Continues
Although a continue is usually a gaming term for another chance after game
over, I think the continue on this screen refers to the amount of times you
have loaded your game.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Loading~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To load a previously saved game you must go back to the main menu and select
"Continue Game".
The load game screen is very similar to the save game screen, with the only
difference being the name of the screen and the colour (save screen is orange,
load screen is blue). In order to load a game just select the save you wish
to load from the 8 slots and you're ready to play again.
This is the main section of the FAQ, the walkthrough. Here I will go through
the game and show you the location of everything you need aswell as boss
strategies etc. Please note that this walkthrough covers the Easy mode. At the
end of each level I will point out all the different changes I have found
between difficulties except for the number of demons faced.
This stage isn't really a stage to be honest, but a little mini-stage at the
start of the game. This is what the instruction manual refers to as the
"Surprise Start". There is no official name for this stage so I have named it
"Alternate Universe" as that is where I think it is set. You pretty much have
roughly a minute to show off your best moves on the demons around you which
will be used as the background for the opening credits of the game.
All I will say for this is don't feel scared because you're suddenly thrown
into the game. You cannot be hurt here, so use this to your advantage. Use this
as a little amount of time to get used to the controls of the game since you
won't be able to until you beat the first real stage. Just kill all the
Hinkyonshi-Kou and kill the large Keikyonshi if you can and enjoy the opening
credits.
After this you will see a CG of Lau returning to his master's temple from the
alternate dimension Rei sent him to. You then see a little flashback of Lau
sparring with Master Naguri and Naguri telling him that he needs to train more.
After this a menu will appear. You can select from 8 different training videos
(yes, videos, no interaction at all) to find out the controls etc. but I think
that my controls are better so if you are in doubt then look above.
After you are finished here, try to exit and Naguri will tell you to come back
if you ever need revision of the controls.
Another CG plays showing Lau remembering his master telling him to fight
before Lau jumps down the steps of the temple, shows off a little with his
swords and jumps into the air, to the first stage: Boukyougai.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 1~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
This stage starts off with brief surround shot of the area. You are shown a
red gate sealed with some form of symbol. Lau jumps down from the sky into the
area and you are immediately put into a battle with some Hinkyonsai-Kou. Kill
them, and the seal on the gate will be broken and the flames will turn green.
For future reference this means that the gate is open.
Before going through the gate, run around and smash all the pots as they
contain Reijyu. Don't forget to pick up all the Reijyu from the dead demons
too. Also, in Medium mode and above there will be a Taikyokuin right behind
your starting point, above the stairs.
Proceed through the gate.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 2~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
A quick glimpse of the area shows you are in an abandoned street. To the left
is rubble, and to the right are 4 pots. Smash them and pick up the Reijyu.
Go forward along the street and some more Hinkyonsai-Kou and 4 more pots.
Kill the Hinkyonsai-Kou and pick up the Reijyu from the demons and pots.
Going forward along the street a little more takes you to a corner turning
left. Just a little forward from this corner and to the right of the street
you will see a ledge made by the rubble. Climb this ledge. Note that some more
Hinkyonsai-Kou may appear. Kill these first. Keep climbing the ledges and you
will find a crate. Smash the crate and you will find a Yousentan, which is a
pink orb that looks similar to a Reijyu but this restores your Spell Guage.
Next to the crate you will find your very first Taikyokuin. This is an
octagonal coin that is used to unlock things. There are 120 in total. Try and
pick them up every oportunity you get. Also note that if you have already
picked up a certain Taikyokuin it will be transparent next time you see it.
Go back down and run along the road a bit more. When you come to 3 more pots
2 more Hinkyonsai-Kou will appear. Kill them. You will notice you are now at a
junction. Keep going straight forward, and kill the Hinkyonsai-Kou that
appear. Smash the crate and you will find your very first Rikisentan. This is
similar to the Reijyu and Yousentan, except this one is yellow in colour and
replenishes your Health Guage.
Go down the path sprouting from the right of the junction and you will come to
a slope. At the bottom of the slope a Hinkyonshi-Hei will appear. These are
like the Hinkyonsai-Kou, except they have less health and their weapon is a
crossbow. Note that another Hinkyonsai-Hei may appear under the slope towards
the staircase. Kill it, since a long ranged demon can be a pain in the neck if
not defeated quickly. Once you have killed them ignore the staircase for now
and climb the wooden slope. Climb up the cages until you can't anymore and
then turn around. You will see a ledge with a crate on it. The best way to get
up is to run along the wall and climb up but more advanced players will have
other methods of climbing. Destroy the crate and pick up the Yousentan and
look accross to the other side of the street. There is a ledge in front of you
with another Taikyukuin on it! Jump/fly/whatever over to the ledge and pick it
up.
Once you have picked it up jump down, run up the stairs and go through the
gate.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 3~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
As soon as you start this area you will see 2 pots. Smash them as usual and go
forward. You will see another form of Hinkyonshi called Hinkyonshi-Otsu. These
ones have a much heavier sword than the Hinkyonshi-Kou. Defeat them as normal
and then climb up the roof and onto another one. Smash the pots and look
forward to see another Taikyokuin. Just jump and hope you get it.
When you land you will fight more Hinkyonshi-Otsu. If you missed theTaikyokuin
get it after killing these. Carry on forward when you're finished and climb the
roofs, and smash the crate containing another Yousentan. Walk forward a bit
more to see a cutscene of Lau looking down to an item covered with a force.
What we have to do here is kill all the enemies. Jump down and you will come
face to face with Hinkyonshi-Kou, Hinkyonshi-Hei, Hinkyonshi-Otsu and a new
enemy called Goukyonshi-Kou. I don't really see a difference in strength
between the two Kou demons, except the Goukyonshi-Kou likes to jump around
instead of attack. Pick up the Syouyoukyou and go up the stairs.
When you reach the top break the crate containing another Yousentan and smash
the 3 pots. On this same rooftop is also another Taikyoukuin. All you have to
do to reach it is jump up and it's yours. Jump down the side of the building to
get into another fight with Hinkyonshi-Otsu. Kill them and climb more
rooftops. At the top you will see 3 pots and a crate containing a Rikisentan.
Collect it and go towards the sealed gate. You can use the Syouyoukyou to
unlock this one.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 4~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
As soon as this area starts, look up to see another Taikyokuin. Pick it up.
Jump down the ledge instead of going down the stairs to find 3 pots and jump
down again. Some Hinkyonshi-Kou will appear. Kill them and jump down the ledges
into the water. Before breaking the crate here take note of it. Notice the
purple aura from it? What this means is that there is a new spell inside. Break
open this crate to find the Souryuuseki - Level 1. this lets you use the
Souryuuken - Level 1 spell.
Once you have picked it up the ground will start to rumble, before you know it
water will start flooding in. What you have to do here is use the Spell
Defense. As the water comes flooding in repeatedly press the Square button
to perform the Spell Defense. If you survive it, well done. If you get
knocked down, you will see a short cutscene with Master Naguri reminding Lau
that the Spell Defense can be used to defend against water and you will have to
try again.
Once you are safe jump to the ledge on the left and run up. You will see some
Hinkyonshi-Hei appear from above. Kill them, trying not to get hit by an arrow
back into the water and continue upwards. Reaching the top you will see more
Hinkyonshi-Otsu and Hinkyonshi-Kou. Kill them and run towards the poles.
There are a few ways of getting up here but I find the easiest way is by
hanging onto the pole, jumping on top of it and jumping up the next pole etc.
Once you are at the top, jump over to the roof and smash the 3 pots.
Run down the stairs and keep going and jump down to pick up another Taikyokuin.
On this platform you will find some Hinkyonshi-Otsu. Kill them to find our new
best friend Keikyonshi. Keikyonshi is a large demon with a spikey club. You can
tell he's nearby by his loud footsteps and he runs pretty fast but keep up the
Recievals and use a few aerial combos and he should go down fine. There is also
a crate down here with a Yousentan so get it if you want. Run up the ramps to
find some poles that need swinging on. Just do a few swing jumps to get to the
other side. If you happen to fall down, kill all the Hinkyonshi-Kou and
Hinkyonshi-Otsu and jump up the poles to get up. Go through the gate.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 5~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Start off by jumping down to the platform below and run down the ramp to find
Hinkyonshi-Kou and Hinkyonshi-Otsu. Kill them and smash the 3 pots before
jumping down the ledge. Run up the ramp and fight the Hinkyonshi-Kou and
Hinkyonshi-Otsu. Smash the 3 pots and break the crate to get another Yousentan.
Before going down the ramp again go to the right and climb the massive crate.
There's another Taikyokuin. Grab it. Climb up the next crate and you'll find
the Tekkuseki - Level 1 which allows you to use the Tekkuken - Level 1 spell.
Now, to save time, we'll fly from this crate along up the ramp, but if you want
to, you can go down to the very bottom and fight a number of Hinkyonshi-Otsu,
Hinkyonshi-Kou, Hinkyonshi-Hei and a Keikyonshi.
Fly down and you'll have landed beside 3 pots hopefully. Smash them and go up.
Now get ready for your first boss fight.

<>~~~BOSS FIGHT - Hyakkitaikou Kou~~~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This guy is really easy. Just keep R1 help to keep a lock on him and whenever
he tries to attack just hammer down that Square button to get into a Swordplay.
You will probably always win the swordplay since he only has 3 Defense Points
whereas we have 5. Just be cautious of when he is on the floor though. Every
time he gets back up he sends a small shockwave that hurts you no matter what.
Just do what I have said and he'll be gone in no time. His Health Guage is
reasonably small, and isn't powerful really.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~~~BOSS FIGHT - Hyakkitaikou Kou~~~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After you defeat him you will see a CG. Lou notices a woman and jumps up the
buildings to get to her. She tells him that she knows who he is, and that she
will take him back to the temple. She then opens a portal and tells him to go
with her, and they both jump into it.
After you are shown the results screen you will be able to save your game for
the first time. Remember that a save file requires 1020KB.
After this you will see a short CG of Lau and the girl arriving back at the
Houmadera and the girl making an orange portal before explaining that Lau can
use the portal to travel to other places, and that he must fight demons.
Before going to Stage 2 I would suggest getting to know this place a little bit
first as you will be coming here a lot.
From your starting position you will see the portal in front of you. Use this
to power up Lau and use it to travel to different places.
Up the stairs from Lau is the Houmadera. Go inside to practice your combat
skills on a Kigara or revise your controls.
Downstairs is what appears to be some sort of playground where you can run
around and get a feel for the different jumps and other acrobatic abilities
Lau has if you haven't already. Once you are ready I would highly suggest
powering up Lau. Hopefully you'll have over 1000 Reijyu so go to the portal
and select Power-Up Settings. You can choose whatever you want to power-up, but
I would highly recommend increasing your Ryugatou level by 1 and your defense
by 1 (if you have 1400 Reijyu I would upgrade your defense by 2).
When you're ready select "Stage 2 - Seirinkyou" from the list.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 1~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
You start off in the middle of a bamboo forest. Now, for this stage it is
recommended that you keep your radar on at all times (L2) because this whole
stage is very misty and maze-like and it will also help to find the gate you
are looking for, especially in Area 3.
Ok, if you are playing on Medium difficulty or above, run behind you, climb
up the wall and when you reach the top of the straw do a Triangle Jump to pick
up a Taikyokuin. Run forward until you reach a monument. Read it and it will
say:
"Cut down a lot of demons.
In so doing the path will be opened."
Ok, so the main premise is that we have to kill all the demons in the area.
You will meet 2 new demons in the stage: Soki-Kou and Ouki-Kou. They are mole-
like "Ninjas" that jump around constantly and try to slash you from behind.
The Soki-Kou are the smaller blue ones that make a sort of chainsaw-like cry
while the Ouki-Kou are the taller greenish ones that growl. I must mention that
the Ouki-Kou are the first common demons you will fight with a Defense Guage,
but it's only a mere 2 so if you ever get into a swordfight with it you'll be
sure to win.
Depending on your difficulty you will have to fight more demons so I will
just tell you to run around fighting demons until the gate is unsealed.
If you are playing on Medium difficulty or above there is a Taikyokuin on the
left path from the gate in the corner.
Once you've picked up the Taikyokuin and unsealed the gate, go through. There's
nothing else here.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 2~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
As soon as you go through you will see a monument reading:
"Rend asunder the eight words.
Rend them asunder with
flashes of light."
There are 8 monuments in this area that glow with a purple aura. There is a
lone one, a group of 3 and a group of 4. You need to basically destroy these
with your swords. The "flashes of light" is a little thing there to put you
off to think you need a new spell but it just refers to the speed that Lau
can attack, although you must attack them all at once for it to be destroyed.
Anyway, move forward and you'll find an open area with a few demons in it. In
the middle is your first monument. Once you kill the demons attack the monument
until it smashes.
From here move through the North path and then take the East path and you
should come to another area with 3 monuments. Kill any demon that appears and
destroy the monuments with a Spin Attack.
From here take the North path and then go straight forward to another area
with the remaining 4 monuments. Kill any demon that appears and then find the
crate that has the Senranseki / Level 1 inside. You need this to destroy the
4 monuments since they are too far apart to Spin Attack. Use Senranken on them
and the gate will unseal. If you need health go to the East path from here to
find a Rikisentan.
If you are playing on Medium or higher, go to the West path from this area to
find another Taikyokuin.
Use the radar to find the gate and kill all the demons you see. To the West
of the gate is a slope going down. At the bottom of it there is a Taikyokuin.
Use the shorter part of the walls to run and get it. I'm not sure if this coin
is there on Easy so don't worry if you're playing that and it isn't there.
When you're ready go through the gate.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 3~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
I absolutely dispise this Area so much. As soon as you enter you will notice
a new counter in the middle of the screen with a green orb beside it. This is
your Konjyu counter. What you have to do here is collect 50 Konjyu (100 on
Medium or higher) that you need to open the gate. To get these Konjyu you have
to break the bamboo trees and it will drop about 5 Konjyu. Sounds easy, right?
Wrong. The annoying part of this is that your Konjyu counter slowly goes down
all the time, so collecting 50/100 Konjyu isn't enough. Before even attempting
to collect Konjyu, I'd suggest wiping the area clean of demons first, so that
they don't interfere with your Konjyu collecting. There is a new enemy here
called Sangei-Kou that is a white tiger with a blade in it's mouth. Watch out
because these are the fastest moving demons yet. They will run around you,
strafe by your attacks and pounce on you. It doesn't do much damage but they
can still be annoying.
Bamboo trees regenerate after a short while so don't worry about breaking them.
If you want to know what the monument in front of you says it simply says:
"Gather a lot of the souls of
the ephemeral blue forest like
the stars which sparkle."
To the left of the monument is a Taikyokuin which I think is in Easy upwards
although I'm not terribly sure.
Once you've cleared the area of demons it's time to go Konjyu collecting.
You'll find 3 massive trees in the area that give off an aura. Striking these
trees destroys them and gives you 50 Konjyu. If you can find them all first,
and then manage to get from the trees to the gate with over 100 Konjyu that's
great. Do that. But if you can't you might have to make do with A LOT of
hunting. Go to near the gate and you will see a massive patch of bamboo. By
going around and destroying them and collecting the bamboo (never stop moving!)
you will EVENTUALLY reach 100. There is also a 50 Konjyu tree round the corner
if you need it. If you go South of the tree there is a little opening that has
a crate in it. Open it to get the Gaisenseki / Level 1. This lets you use
Gaisenken which increases your defense. It's a good spell until you have
maximum defense, then it's useless.
Anyway, once you've gained over 100 Konjyu try and get to the gate as fast as
you can and press X or Square to get through as fast as you can. As long as
you keep moving and go round the bamboo in 3 patches (the path to the left of
the gate, the path leading to the gate, and the area with the tree) you should
be fine.
A CG will play showing Lau walk out of the bamboo field and into an arena.
There he is met by Rei who assumes he wants a rematch. Lau says the first of 2
words he says in the whole game which is "hai" (Japanese for "yes"). Rei
escapes via a portal and from another appears a tyrant of a demon: Toutetsu.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~~~BOSS FIGHT - Toutetsu~~~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This boss isn't actually as big as he is in the CG, but he is pretty big. He
can be pretty powerful if you don't have a strategy but he isn't too
difficult.
Like every boss, keep R1 pressed at all times. He doesn't summon any demons so
hopefully every attack he does to you will be defended, unless you're in the
middle of an attack (which you shouldn't really be). Now, always keep moving in
one direction and try to get behind him. If you can, attack him and move out of
the way. He will probably try and jump on top of you, if he does evade it and
get some more Dramatic Action points.
He has 4 main attacks. He will either jump on top of you, which can be easily
evaded, he can punch you (which will never hit you if you always try to stay
behind him), he can throw rocks at you and he can fire lasers at you.
If he jumps to the middle of the arena he will summon some rocks and throw
them at you. They don't really do much damage but evade them or defend them if
you can. You probably won't have many defense points yet so evading is the
best option.
If he jumps to the other side of the arena he will get ready to fire a laser at
you. If he does this stop moving altogether and focus on his laser. As soon as
it is about to hit you use your Spell Defense and charge up your Spell Counter
guage. Once it's full, press Circle and let him have it. This should do deplete
40-50% of his health.
Keep to this and attack from behind and he'll go down once he uses his 3rd or
4th laser.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~~~BOSS FIGHT - Toutetsu~~~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After you defeat Toutetsu it will skip to a CG where you see Lau evading a few
of his attacks and then suddenly Toutetsu will be sucked into a portal. Lau
then looks around to see a portal.
Walk through the portal to finish the stage and return to the Houmadera. When
you get there the girl will be there and she will open the portal to the next
stage, Makutsuin. Once you've used your Reijyu to gain levels go through the
portal.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 1~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
As soon as you go to Makutsuin, you will see that you are outside, on some sort
of balcony platform thing. If you take a look over the side of the balcony you
will see that if you fall, you will fall into oblivion. Luckily, instead of
dying at this point you will take a small bit of damage and will appear back on
the platform you were just on.
Run up the slope and go through the gate.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 2~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Run forward a little and round the corner and you'll see a platform with Reijyu
in the middle of a hole in the ground. Jump into the middle platform and grab
the Reijyu, and when you do a number of spider demon, Bokkou-Kou, will appear.
These guys can climb up walls and can shoot a ball of acid at you. Apart from
that, no worries. If you fall into the gap you'll probably have to fight most
of them, but jump accross to the other side and you'll only have to fight a
couple that fell onto the platform when they appeared.
Once you're done run into the opening and round the corner through another
opening. Some more Bokkou-Kou will appear so kill them. You can tell when
they're all dead because their snarling battle cry will stop. So run up the
plank of wood, collecting the Reijyu on that and go through the opening. You
can either drop down and fight some Bokkou-Kou here or you can fly accross to
the other opening. Go through the opening when you're done here and fall to
the room below. Walk through a bit and you'll find another few Bokkou-Kou.
Kill them and go forward a bit.
You'll find a wall with some Reijyu on it. Run along the wall, collecting the
Reijyu and get to the other platform and do the same round the corner or in the
case of what I just did, accidently glide over and grab the ledge. Anyway, once
you're over, run around the corners and you'll find a junction. You can either
go forward and run along another wall, or go right and climb the wall for a
Taikyokuin. I think we'll go for the Taikyokuin. Collect it and go back down to
kill the Bokkou-Kou that appear and run along the wall. Once you're accross run
round to the right and kill any Bokkou-Kou that appear. Once you are out of the
corridor turn right and grab the Taikoukuin (Normal+ only I think) then go to
the left and out the gate.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 1~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Run up the slope, but before going through the gate, jump down and collect the
Taikyokuin (Normal+ only). Easiest way of doing this is just sacrificing 250 HP
and falling to "oblivion". Anyway, however you get back, go through the gate.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 3~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once you go through this gate you will see a flashback of Rei and Lau inside
Makutsuin 3000 years ago. Rei will tell Lau how they will never be as powerful
as the demons, but he must go in and rescue Yohfa. Lau readies his swords and
Rei laughs, saying that they will both rescue her. Rei mentions that he would
never be let down by his best friend and that together they make a deadly
combination. The scene goes back to the Houmadera where Naguri is medititating
and he says "Hmm... A deadly combination indeed" before the scene ends.
Once you take control again, run round the corner into a room. Kill any Bokkou-
Kou that appear here and Hinkyonshi-Hei. Now this place is like a maze so bare
with me. Climb up the stairs but be careful turning the corner because there
are a pair of Tiger Heads round there. These are statues that fire projectiles
randomly in a straight line. This time they are firing arrows. The best way
to destroy them are by getting inbetween them where their projectiles don't
reach and Spin Attacking them. You'll have noticed the Taikyokuin in the alcove
by now so pick it up and continue on. Round the corner are a pair of dual Tiger
Heads, and they're further away than the last ones. Just run along the wall and
Spin Attack when you get close.
Down the ledge are a pair of triple Tiger Heads. Their attack rate is faster
but just just fly along and use a Spin Attack. Before climbing the platforms
climb the wall straight in front of you for another Taikyokuin. If you want a
Rikisentan climb around the Tiger Heads and pick it up from the crate. Go
through the gate.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 1~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Run around the corner and up the slope to the gate.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 4~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Go round the corner and fly over to the wall on the other side with the Reijyu
on it and climb up. Make sure you don't climb up the indented centre because
there is a ledge there to prevent you reaching the top. Kill any Bokkou-Kou
here and go forward. My apologies. THIS is the area that seems like a maze.
From here jump onto the wooden platform below for a Taikyokuin (Normal+ only)
and go through the opening.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~MINI BOSS FIGHT - Korikitaikou-Kou~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
IT'S A TRAP! You are forced to fight a Korikitaikou-Kou. Use Swordplay to beat
him, and use your evade to strike him from behind. He'll go down eventually.
Just remember to get out the way when you ground him because he'll create a
small force around him that will hurt you if you get too close. Also remember
to keep an eye of your Defense Guage.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~MINI BOSS FIGHT - Korikitaikou-Kou~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm pretty sure this is where the Ryoseiseku - Level 2 is, but I'm not
absolutely sure. If anyone can clarify this for me I'd be thankful. Well, if it
is, it's my favourite spell in the entire game. Lau fires an array of arrows to
the target that curve round so that they can go around corners and/or attack
other demons. Once you grab this spell go back and jump down the ledge and
around into the opening at the bottom. You'll find a couple of Shiniku-Kou
which are bombs pretty much. They fly around you and will explode if you get
too close. Just jump out the way when this happens. Go around a bit more and
jump down when you get to the wooden ledge to fight some Hinkyonshi-Tei. Once
you kill them walk around and kill some more Bokkou-Kou and Shiniku-Kou. You'll
eventually come to a couple of chances to run along some walls and collect some
Reijyu. Run along the wall closest to you then go around and go back and
collect some more on the other wall. Go back along either wall again to get any
missed Reijyu and climb the wooden stairs. Run along the wall here and collect
some more Reijyu. If you fall just avoid the Tiger Heads at the bottom and
climb up the same way again. Don't go through the gate however as there is a
Taikyokuin around the other side (Normal+ only?). Collect it and you'll
probably fall down again. Just climb back up the usual way. There is a crate
here that you can get by running along the wall at the opposite side and
jumping accross to it. It has a Rikisentan. Make your way to the gate and go
through.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 1~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
You can tell right away that you're pretty much at the top of this building.
Run around and up the stairs, and jump onto the ledge to the right to see a
Taikyokuin at the far away wall. You'll have to jump from the wall to reach it.
Once you get it just keep going upwards until you reach a gate. Go through.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 5~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Run forward and you'll see the gate in front of you has a seal. Run into the
room and you'll be forced to fight a large selection of different Hinyonshi
and a Keikhonshi. This is a good way to get your combo meter up. Kill them
all and the gate will unseal. Go through it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 6~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
As you walk through this door you will see a CG of Lau walking into an open
area. The scene goes to a flashback of Rei where he is holding a dead Yohfa in
his arms and cries that he will have his revenge, even if he must become a
demon. Naguri is there too and he is much against the thought of Rei trying
to take revenge. The scene goes back to Lau and Rei is standing in front of
him. He takes his sword and creates a portal which he escapes through and
from another portal your next boss appears.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~~~BOSS FIGHT - Toukotsu~~~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This boss is my favourite boss in the game. It'll probably start the battle by
firing a fireball at you. Just avoid it. Like every boss remember to hold the
ever useful R1 button to keep it locked on, and always keep moving.
For a while it'll just walk around firing a single fireball every so often.
They'll miss if you're moving around so don't worry about them. After a while
it'll jump towards the edge of the arena. Stand still because it's about to
fire a few fireballs. This is your chance to use the Spell Defense and Spell
Counter. Once you've got your guage up full let it have it.
After this it'll randomly walk around, fire a few fireballs or run about a
little. It only really has 4 main attacks if you stay away from it. It will
either fire more fireballs or it'll curl up and spin towards you. It does
however have 2 versions of the spin attack. It'll either spin once right
towards you, or once it's health is down a bit it'll start spinning around the
arena. It will also charge right for you, if you're unlucky. It's rarer attack
is when it rolls up like it's about to charge for you but instead fires a few
fireballs from it's body.
One thing that might scare you a little is when you're using your Spell
Defense. When you use it you can hardly see anything in front of you and
since it only fires a few fireballs you might see it's ugly face right in front
of you when you stop the Spell Defense.
Just use the Spell Defense 3 or 4 times on it (depending on the difficulty)
and it'll go down.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~~~BOSS FIGHT - Toukotsu~~~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once you've beat Toukotsu a CG shows it escaping through a portal. Go back
through the portal back to the Houmadera where you will see Rei kidnap the
girl and take her through a portal. Just before she vanishes the girl makes
another portal at the opposite end of the staircase that takes you to
Kikokujyou.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 1~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Back in the city for this stage, except this time you aren't running around the
main streets, but in alleys and over rooftops. As you as you take control you
will see some Soki-Kou and Ouki-Kou. You should know how to kill them by now.
Once you're done go up the stairs and follow them to the top. Climb up on top
of the ledge and you'll encounter a couple of Shiniku-Kou and Endra-Kou, a
static demon that resembles a gong/mythical mirror that fires energy balls in a
straight line. Destroy the Shiniku-Kou and fly accross to the ledge opposite
the direction you just came, avoiding the Endra-Kou's fire to pick up a
Taikyokuin. You can kill it if you want, as it won't turn around to attack and
it after one hit it will die.
Make your way back accross the ledge and get accross the ledge to the left to
another ledge with some pots. Make your way up the wall using the poles and
turn around so that you are facing a wall. Right away you should see a
Taikyokuin (Normal+). Grab it and then make your way to the ledge opposite you.
An Endra-Kou will appear, "blocking" your way forward, but it doesn't matter
because we're not going that way anyway. Turn right and jump along the ledges
here and you'll see Hinyonshi-Tei. These guys are like any other Hinkyonshi
except they fire 3 arrows at a time. Kill it aswell as the Shiniku-Kou that
appear before climbing the central building (the one to your left). Kill the
Goukyonshi-Tei and make your way to the edge of the ledge to collect another
Taikyokuin. Run back to the other end of the ledge but instead of going back
to your right, jump to a small ledge on your left with a crate on it holding
the Souryuuseki / Level 2 item to let you use Souyuuken Level 2. Jump back up
the ledge and over to the other side (you'll probably have to run up the wall)
and climb the tall ledge right in front of you (if you fly accross from the
central ledge you will only need to run up the wall a little to reach the top).
An Endra-Kou will appear at the other side of the building, firing energy in
your path. Jump accross to the smallish ledge in front of you and destroy any
Shiniku-Kou that appear, being careful for both the energy beams and the
explosions of the Shiniku-Kou. Fly accross to the ledge in the corner and make
your way around the edges destroying any Shiniku-Kou that try to block your
way. Go through the gate when you reach it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 2~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
You're inside the building now. Look up from your starting position to see a
Taikyokuin from the ruined ceiling (Normal+?) and strike the door on the right
to get through. You'll now be in a corridor with 3 accessable rooms and a
sealed gate. To get through the gate you'll need the Kaiinmonken which is
located in one of the rooms. All of the rooms are trapped though and to get out
you must destroy all the enemies. The Kaiimonken is in the room to the left of
the gate but you can go in the other rooms to get Reijyu if you want.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 3~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Same idea as the last room, you need to find the Kaiyoumonken located in one of
the rooms. This corridor is pretty much straight so it's easier to navigate.
If you go in the first room you pass you will not find the Kaiyoumonken but a
Taikyokuin. Grab it, and kill the demons in this room.
The second room is not trapped, but instead contains a chest containing the
Gouenseki / Level 2 to let you use Gouenken Level 2.
Going forward you will see 2 rooms: one to the left and another to the right.
The Kaiyoumonken is in the room to the right.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~MINI BOSS FIGHT - Sangei Otsu~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I don't really know why I'm putting this as a mini boss because it's not one at
all. But it has the health of a mini boss so I'll put it here anyway.
To defeat it just lock on to it and slash it as much as you can. You will guard
all of it's attacks and since it doesn't produce a force when it gets back up
you're safe.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~MINI BOSS FIGHT - Sangei Otsu~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pick up the Kaiyoumonken and head through the gate.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 3~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
You're back outside now. Run forward to fight some Ouki-Kou then after you kill
them run up the stairs and up the 2 ledges. Fly/run along to the ledge opposite
you and then fly accross to the awkward ledge to the diagonal left of you and
then to the one diagonally right of you.
From here jump accross to the "stairway" ledges and climb up them and get to
the ledge behind you and then jump over to the one to the diagonal left of
you for a Taikyokuin. Jump back a platform and head left to reach another
awkward platform. The best way to reach it is by running along the walls and
jumping. There is a Taikyokuin above the poles here (Normal+) so grab onto the
poles, climb up the first one and jump over to get it. Keep jumping along them
to reach the other side.
Here you will see a demon similar to the Endra called Bhandra. These are non
attacking and actually help Lau quite a bit. By hitting them and using aerial
combos they act as a sortof manual transportation device that allows Lau to get
over large gaps. They die once they get Lau accross the gap they are intended,
even if they still have health left. So use one of them to get accross the gap.
Running up the wall ahead of you gets you another Taikyokuin (Normal+) so get
it and then head left to an open area. Head to the back wall to reach a ledge.
You will encounter some Ouki-Kou and Soki-Kou. Kill them. There are some crates
here to refill guages if you wish to get them before heading through the gate.
Once you're done here, go through.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 4~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Back inside another building but it's a bit different from the past buildings.
There are no keys to collect, just demons to kill. Going through the first door
you'll find a few demons and a Taikyokuin.
The second door is optional. There's nothing of any greatness inside to my
knowledge, just a miniboss. Go in if you want.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~MINI BOSS FIGHT - Hyakkitaikou-Otsu~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This guy is actually pretty tough. The Swordplay/Evade strategy won't really
work here because he's fast so you better have a pretty high Defense Guage.
I'd stay close to him though because if you get too far he'll use a special
attack where his sword turns pink and his strikes are unblockable. My only
advise is really stay close, keep an eye on both your Defense Guages aswell as
his movements and when you ground him move out the way. He'll eventually go
down.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~MINI BOSS FIGHT - Hyakkitaikou-Otsu~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once you beat him, leave the room and continue forward until you come to a dead
end. You'll see a yellow arrow pointing upwards so just do as it says and climb
your way up. To the right of you are some ledges however and on the first ledge
is a Taikyokuin (Normal+) so get it and continue going up.
Once you get to the top fight any demons that appear then climb up the wall on
the left as far as you can, jump over to the wall on the right and climb to the
top and through the gate.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 6~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
To your right is a Taikyokuin so pick it up. Head forward to find a Keikyonshi
and Ouki-Kou. Kill them and break the crate to get a Yousentan if you want
before climbing the walls. Find a place you can climb on these next walls and
get to the top to find some Ouki-Kou and Kouki-Kou. The Kouki species are much
more aggresive than the already pretty aggressive Ouki so watch out.
North-East is another Taikyokuin to pick up, on a ledge in the corner
(Normal+?). Get it and come back, going into the alley in the South-East.
An Endra-Kou will appear, shooting energy right for you this time so run along
the wall to the right. If you fall just kill the Hinyonshi at the bottom and
get back up via the walls.
On this ledge is a Taikyokuin but time your jump to get it so that you don't
get hit by the next Endra-Kou. Make your way to the next platform where you
will see more of the Kouki and Soki-Kou species. Once you kill them climb up
the wall and through the gate.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 7~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once you go through the gate you will appear in another arena where you will
see Rei. Rei explains that it is "poetic" that they should fight there as it
was the place that Rei became a demon and killed Naguri and he says he will
kill Lau there too. After a quick mid-air swordfight you will take control
again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~~~BOSS FIGHT - Rei Jenron~~~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rei isn't really all that difficult. He barely evades Swordplay so his Defense
Guage is easy to get down. He doesn't even have any force that appears around
him when he gets up after being grounded. He does have a high Defense Guage
though and is pretty powerful if he cuts through your defenses.
He has an attack which he uses when you get far away from him in which he fires
many swords at you. Just strafe past them and you'll be fine.
Keep with the Swordplay tactic and he'll go down quick enough.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~~~BOSS FIGHT - Rei Jenron~~~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once you beat Rei he will escape into a portal and bring forth to you
another monster. Yes, you have to fight Toukotsu again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~~~BOSS FIGHT - Toukotsu~~~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Toukotsu has the biggest Health Guage yet, and it actually doubles over itself.
You'll notice the purple over the yellow. The same strategy as before should do
the trick, but Toukotsu has a few new tricks up it's sleeve.
It will sometimes jump onto the ledges around the side of the arena and attack
from there. Nothing special really.
But it does have one very annoying trick. Whenever it does it's spinning attack
it will produce a flame trail that stays there for a few seconds. When it only
goes in one line it's not a problem and can easily be avoided but it's when
Toukotsu decides to spin around the whole arena that can be troublesome. During
this time the flames stay for a bit longer, and the only effective way to avoid
it is by jumping onto the edges of the arena where you can laugh at it.
Just use the Spell Counter here and you should be fine. The Spell Counter takes
a little below a 1/3 of it's health off so 4 should do the trick, or just
attack him normally a little if he gets close.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~~~BOSS FIGHT - Toukotsu~~~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once you've killed Toukotsu it will disappear and Lau will see the portal back
to the Houmadera. Go through. When you do you will hear the girl's voice asking
Lau to help her.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 1~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
You start off on a snowy mountain. You are told straight away that there is a
high demon force around. One thing to notice here is that your Health Guage is
constantly going down. To the left of you you will see an ice block. This has
a Rikisentan inside. To get it you must use Gouenken on the ice.
Go forward through the gate and you will see a Bhandra and a new demon:
Jyukoku-Kou. The Jyukoku-Kou is a bird-like demon that also vaguely resembles a
dragonfly. The easiest way to kill the Jyukoku-Kou is by destroying the
Bhandra. Destroy it and the n jump down to the platform below. Remember the
water flood that you had to avoid in Boukyougai? Well you have to do pretty
much the same thing here, except with snow. You should have a high Defense
Guage for this. Go forward and you will see 2 more Jyukoku-Kou and 2 Bhandra.
Destroy the Bhandra and the Jyukoku-Kou will die. Above the first gate here is
a Taikyoukuin (Normal+) so grab it. Turn right and continue up the icy path.
You will see 3 Hinkyonshi-Bo. Kill them. Keep going up the hill and 2 more
Kyukoku-Kou and a Bhandra will appear. Destroy the Bhandra and then use
Gouenken on the ice block to unfreeze it to claim your Rikisentan.
Continue past the gate and down the hill and 2 more Hinkyonshi-Bo will appear.
Kill them and go to the bridge. There is a Taikyokuin here (Normal+). To get it
you must jump on top of the top bar at either side of the bridge, which is
annoying as hell to get right. The best place is to try and jump on the
indented part. Well, once you get it go accross the bridge. As you get to the
end of the bridge more Hinkyonshi-Bo, Kyukoku-Kou and a Bhandra will appear.
Destroy the Bhandra and the Hinkyonshi and unfreeze the ice to get another
Rikisentan. Once you're done here go down the hill where the Bhandra was and
go down to the lower platform. There is another avalanche here so remember to
use your Spell Defense.
Climb the ledges and destroy the Bhandra to get rid of the 2 Kyukoku-Kou and go
through the gate. As you're climbing upwards 2 Bankyonshi-Otsu will appear and
2 Hinkyonshi-Bo. Once you kill them climb up and destroy the Bhandra to kill
the 2 Ryukoku-Kou that appear and also remember to kill the 2 Hinkyonshi-Bo.
Claim your Rikisentan and carry on down the slope to fight 3 Hinkyonshi-Bo and
a Bankyonshi-Otsu. Unfreeze the ice block, claim the Rikisentan and go through
the opening in the wall.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 2~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
You'll be glad to know that your Health Guage has stopped going down as "the
Demonic Force has waned." Good good.
Go forward from the starting position to fight some demons. Once you kill
them you will notice 4 openings in the ice covered in icicles. Smash the
icicles covering the second opening and go through.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 3~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Walk forward and jump onto the platform in the middle of the room. This will
take you to the top. Jump on the platform and go through the opening.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 4~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Look to your right and you will see a platform with a Taikyokuin above it
(Normal+). Run along the wall to get to it and grab it before coming back. You
will see a gate if you continue going forward so go through it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 5~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
You will notice everything has changed. It all looks like some messed up
futuristic fortress. Walk forward slightly and grab the Taikyokuin. Notice to
the right of you is a stone monument. This is the Genbu Altar, and we need a
key to operate it. Take note of it, and go back for now.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 4~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jump down to the area below and run right past the demons to the furthest cave.
Smash the icicles and walk through.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 6~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Inside are quite a number of humanoid demons. Kill them and pick up the
Suzakuhakuken. This allows you to operate the Suzaku altar. Go back through
the opening.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 2~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ignore the demons or kill them if you want. Go right and smash the icicles of
the opening furthest away from you. Go through the opening.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 5~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
You're back in that fortress-like area again, except you're on a lower level.
As soon as you enter you will enter a fight with 2 Hinkyonshi and a new
demon: Takuhi-Kou. These are mechanical demons that zoom around the platform
and charge into you with their blades. They are pretty easy to kill if you
watch out for them. Kill them and go to the Suzaku altar, which is the one
to the far front. Use the Suzakuhakkuken on the altar. This cause a platform
to appear. Jump on top of it and use an Air Glide to reach the next one then
go through the door.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 7~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Right in front of you are lots of spikes piercing forward and going back. Get
past the first set and look above you. There's a ledge. What we have to do now
is Wall Run up the wall avoiding the spikes. Easy, right? Yep. From there go
forward, but don't go round a corner just yet. There are 2 Lion Heads firing
lasers accross the hallway so be careful. It would be best to run behind them
and destroy them. A single Spin Attack should do. Break the crate for a
Yousentan. If you're playing above Easy mode you will see a new demon called
Hinman-Kou. Kill them,and any other demon that appears here. Going back and
straight ahead is a drop. There are 2 more Lion Heads down here but you can't
get behind them, so go inbetween and destroy them.
A new demon will appear called the Hinman-Kou. It is a gelatinous demon that
slides along the floor, goes underneath you and thrusts a demonic hand at you.
It has little health and should go down no bother. There are also 2 pots here.
Up on top of the ledge here is a Taikyokuin so grab it before going through the
gate.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 8~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
As soon as you enter 2 Hinkyonshi-Bo appear and a Takuhi-Kou. Kill them and
jump accross to the adjacent platform. 2 Shiniku-Kou will appear. Hit them and
run before they explode. You will notice a wall in front of you with a crate on
top. To get it you must get to the other side, where there is another wall. Run
along the wall infront of you to reach the next platform and then run up the
wall infront of you, Triangle Jump from it at the top and then Air Glide to the
crate. Inside is the Gouenseki / Level 3 which lets you use Gouenken Level 3.
Air Glide from this platform to the next and then down to the opening. Go
through.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 9~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
You have just come out the other side of the mountain and there are some more
openings to go through covered in icicles. From your position go through the
next opening along.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 10~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here you will find a Sangei. Kill it and then break the crate to find
Dankuuseki / Level 2. This allows you to use Dankuuken Level 2. Go back through
the opening.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 9~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Run to the right and kill the Hinkyonshi-Bo if you want. There is an opening
ahead of you that states you need the Genbuhakuken to get through. Go forward
a bit more and go through the last opening.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 11~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There may be some Hinman in here, aswell as Lion Heads at the walls. Destroy
them before climbing up and grabbing the Taikyokuin. Head back outside.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 9~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Go back past the sealed opening and go through the opening right next door to
it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 12~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Straight ahead of you is a crate and a key. Break the crate to find a
Rikisentan and take the key. It's the Genbuhakuken. A cutscene occurs where
Lau hears a noise outside. So go outside.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 9~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Turn right and go through the now unsealed door.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 12~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You're back outside that fortress and in front of you is a large pillar. Climb
the pillar and do an Air Glide onto the next platform. Fight the
Hinkyonshi-Bo, the Takuhi-Kou and the Goukyonshi-Hei. Go up the stairs and
then go behind this other pillar. You aren't able to get to the top of it so
we will have to get accross to the other side another way. We have to run up
the wall, Triangle Jump accross, move the camera behind us (R2) and then Air
Glide onto the platform. It's as easy as that. Once at the other side, go
through the door.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 13~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There are more spikes here. Do the same as last time to get past the first set.
Within the next set is a bunch of Reijyu. Don't bother trying to get them.
They're there to fool you. Just run past the spikes as before. The only
difference to these ones is that there are 2 sets but if you get past one set
you'll get past the other.
The next set of spikes is easier than the wall climbing. You just have to jump
up on the platform to get past them. Be careful when going back up as there
are 2 Lion Heads that will get you if you try and get up carelessly. What I did
was hang on to the ledge and when the laser stopped for the nearest Lion Head I
jumped up, Air Glided towards them and Spin Attacked them in mid-air to destroy
them. There's another crate back here with a Rikisentan if you need it.
Before going down the platforms I'd go back to where the spikes were. You'll
see a Taikyokuin in amongst the spikes (Normal+). To get it, go to the lower
of the 2 platforms and jump for it when the spikes go back. If you get hit
don't worry because the spikes don't actually do much damage. Once you pick it
up, go back.
Go down the platforms and kill the Hinkyonshi-Bo and Bankyonshi-Otsu before
climbing the pillar and picking up the Seiryuuhakuken. Go round the corner and
through the door.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 5~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
We're now all the way back at Area 5. Air Glide to the next platform, kill the
Takuhi-Kou if you want and then Air Glide to the next platform. Go through
the opening.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 2~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Go right and through the furthest away opening.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 5~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just do what you did last time and kill the demons that appear. After that go
to the Seiryuu Altar which is to the right and insert the Seiryuuhakuken. Go
back to Area 2.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 2~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Go through the next opening to the left.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 3~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Go up the elevator to Area 4.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 4~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Go round and through the gate.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 5~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Go up to the Genbu Altar and insert the Genbuhakuken. This finishes the path
to the main building. Jump along the new platforms using Air Glides and go
through the gate at the end.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~Area 14~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A CG shows Lau entering the room and then cuts to Rei holding a woman before
saying "She's crying?"
There's a new Takuhi here called Takuhi-Otsu which seem larger than
Takuhi-Kou. Kill them and go left. Go up the elevator and go straight along.
You will go into a room where you are locked in.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~MINI-BOSS FIGHT - Korikitaikou-Kou~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Korikitaikou-Kou is a lizard-bird-humanoid thing if I was able to see
correctly. It is pretty much the same as the first boss you fought; the
Hyakkitaikou-Kou in both attacks and movement so use the same strategy for
that. Just keep close to it so that it doesn't use it's sword lasers on you
and win swordfights. I recommend you to have a pretty high Defense Guage for
this so if you want for the Spell approach rather than the defense approach
then you'll have to find another strategy for now.
This might take a little while since he tends to evade your Swordplay often
but keep in there and you'll win. To speed things up give him a taste of his
own medicine and evade Swordplay yourself, and get a few strikes in from the
side. Just don't do this when he's cornered.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~MINI-BOSS FIGHT - Korikitaikou-Kou~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once you win you will find the Jingenjyu, which is needed later. Go back
outside of this room. On your way back, you will see a Taikyokuin on a pillar.
Grab it and then jump to the ledge in front of you. Kill the demons here.
Destroy the cracked wall with a small combo and pick up the Tengenjyu. Pick up
the Rikisentan in crate if you need it and leave the room.
Instead of jumping down, Air Glide over to the other side (to the right) and
run into the next little room to get locked in.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~MINI-BOSS FIGHT - Korikitaikou-Otsu~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is a sortof similar fight to the Kirikitaikou-Kou. He has an attack
which the Kou version does not have where he jumps into the air and divebombs
towards you. Watch out for this because it can deal quite a bit and impossible
to defend against (I think). The thing is, he doesn't seem to evade Swordplay
anywhere near as much as the Kou so use this to your advantage and make use
of your evasion skills and get behind him to attack him for optimum damage.
This shouldn't take as much time as the Korikitaikou-Kou but he is strong
so a large Health Guage is recommended.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~MINI-BOSS FIGHT - Korikitaikou-Otsu~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once you win pick up your well deserved Chigenjyu. Go back to floor area and go
up to the centre altar, which is the Byakko Altar and insert all 3 gems.
A CG will show Lou place the 3 gems, and the roof will start to cave in. Lau
evades the falling rubble but the altar caves in and Lau falls through.
He gets up and finds himself in some underground room. The room shakes and
our old friend Toutetsu barges through.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~~~BOSS FIGHT - Toutetsu~~~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As soon as the battle starts, lock-on to him and move at all times. He can
pack quite a punch so it's best not to stand still. His Health Guage is also
pretty large so this might take a while.
Avoid all attacks he does to you and do not attack him at all. Eventually
Toutetsu will draw back and a blue aura will show around his mouth. He's
about to fire a laser. When he fires it, use your Spell Defense and charge up
your Spell Counter Guage. The only attack you need to do in this battle is
Spell Counter. As soon as it reaches max, let him have it and do the process
again.
Whenever he summons some rubble and throws it, keep facing the rubble and you
will Spell Defend it. You should only get hit about once, and it doesn't
really do much damage to Lau. Strafe whenever he jumps in the air too.
He has a new attack this time where he summons rubble and whirls it around him.
When he does this stay in the air and Air Glide towards Toutetsu. By this time
the rubble will be on the outside of the arena.
This could take a while but it's an easy strategy. After a few Spell Counters
he should fall. If he has very little health left and your Spell Guage is up
a little finish him with a spell like Ryouseiken or Dankuuken. If that hasn't
killed him go up to him when he's stunned and slash him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~~~BOSS FIGHT - Toutetsu~~~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A CG plays showing Toutetsu's demise and a portal appears in the room.
Go through the portal back to the the Houmadera.
Well done, you just completed the most annoying stage in the game. Give
yourself a pat on the back.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~MINI-BOSS FIGHT - Bokkou-Taikun~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hate spiders? You'll hate this guy. This is the king spider of the Bokkou
species, and the most annoying one at that. It can be hard to get to him
because everytime you do he will spin around, creating a small whirlwind that
can hurt you. You can defend against it but it takes your Defense Guage right
down. Using my strategy the battle can take a little while but it is the
safest strategy I can think of. The fact that he doesn't fire anything to
defend against means that you won't be using your Spell Counter. Which means
you're going to be using your spells a lot more than usual (unless you use them
a lot anyway, which I don't really do).
Ok, so start off by hacking away at the large spider. Like all my boss
strategies, I will advise you to hold R1 at all times, especially when using
spells againt him. If he looks like he is about to spin around, strafe
backwards to avoid it. From here on, he'll be spinning around a lot so I
wouldn't get too close.
From the sides, start using spells against him. Don't use any of the short
range spells, but use the long ranged ones like Ryouseiken and Gouenken.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~MINI-BOSS FIGHT - Bokkou-Taikun~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just as you think you're getting out of this stage easily you will see a
cutscene showing the ground shaking and a bring launching itself from under
the ground. This is Konton, who has flaming sword hands, and likes to fly. You
see it flying away over the mountain top and Lau follows.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~~~BOSS FIGHT - Konton~~~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Your battlefield here is a large-ish crater. This is the only boss fight where
the environment seems to be quite hazardous. Watch out for the lava pools as
they will take your health right down if you stay in them too long.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~~~BOSS FIGHT - Konton~~~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After the fight you will see a CG of Konton getting ready to attack Lau again
but Lau firing a Tenseiken arrow and destroying it in mid-air. Lau jumps
through the portal back to the Houmadera to see a familiar face: Master Naguri.
Naguri mentions that his soul is still around even though he is dead and tells
Lau that it is time for his final test; he must defeat Naguri.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~~~BOSS FIGHT - Master Naguri~~~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Master Naguri is the one who trained you, so remember that everything you can
do, he can do better. Your best bet would to get into swordplay and evade and
strike him from behind, or try and beat him in a sword fight. I wouldn't
really recommend spells since I'm not sure if he can Counter Spell. If he can
it's not something you'd want to feel. After you knock him down after a
sword fight he has the tendancy to use Ryouseiken so try and position yourself
so that the arrows will strike a wall or pillar. Use the environment to your
advantage. After a while Naguri will go down.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~~~BOSS FIGHT - Master Naguri~~~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After you beat Naguri you will hear him say that Lau's abilities are incredible
since he has managed to beat the master. Lau turns around to see Naguri's real
soul floating behind him, and he tells Lau that he must kill Rei's demon and
set both him and Naguri free before disappearing.
Before going to Gabouun, I'd recommend that you level up your Health Guage
because it is easy to fall off the platforms in the next stage since there is
no floor, only clouds. This stage is also filled with jumping puzzles that
can be a little frustrating to do. Once you're ready, go to Gabouun.
As you enter the next room Lau sees a giant purple hole in the ground. Just as
he looks down it he sees the biggest mother****er of a demon I have ever seen.
This Kyuuki, and he wants a fight. He knocks you into the hole where the
scenery changes to a battlefield that looks strikingly familiar to the Spectral
Keeper battlefield from Final Fantasy X.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~~~BOSS FIGHT - Kyuuki~~~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alright, this is a tough boss. It has a few pretty bad attacks, all of which
can be avoided in some way. Like always, remember to keep locked on.
He can smash the platform you are on, sending you to one far below it. He
usually started the battle with this for me, and is pretty easy to avoid. If
you keep to the edges of the platform you will not be hurt by Kyuuki smashing
through it nor will you be hurt from the fall. If Kyuuki disappears for a few
seconds and you cannot lock on to him it would be best to stay at the edges
because he will do one of 2 things. Either the attack I just mentioned, or one
where he smashes through parts of the platform. When he does this he will smash
through 3 pieces of the platform and rise from one of them. When he does this
he will do a few physical swipe attacks but if you run behind him and attack
him you shouldn't be harmed.
This can be linked with another attack which I found to be the most annoying.
He will start charging at you from the sides with his head. If he does this
strafe left or right just as he is about to hit and you should be fine. The
only annoying thing about this is that since he has previously smashed some of
the platform you might not be able to strafe out of the way, and will be
hurt. This is totally 100% un-defendable so I wouldn't even try.
Another thing he will do is fire ice-shards at you. These are easily avoided as
they move pretty slow and don't hurt much. They stay in the ground though until
you either smash them or he smashes the platform to smitherines so they can
cause a bit of an obstacle. I'd get rid of most of them but don't waste time
destroying them all since he will probably fire a laser at you. When he does
this just Spell Defend as usual and if you're charged up use Spell Counter to
take away a bit of damage. This will probably take off more damage at a time
than most other attacks so try and get as many Spell Counters in as you can.
Another thing he can do is use a spell that freezes you. After he freezes you
he hurts you a little. Whenever he is about to use this, you will see some
conical platforms rising from the main platform. While these platforms are
appearing he will charging up the spell. To prevent it, get to the top of the
platforms as soon as you can and start attacking his head. If you attack his
chest it won't prevent the attack. The platforms don't stay long either so try
and do it as soon as. The platforms can come different ways too. Sometimes a
central path will appear for you to climb and other times 2 rounded paths will
appear around him. The latter ones are harder to climb.
These are pretty much all of his attacks. When he sits at the edge of the
platform doing nothing DO NOT attack him as he will probably counter it with
something (unless you use a projectile-spell).
Keep to the guidelines for all the attacks and you should do well. This battle
requires patience and slight co-ordination so just running in and beating the
hell out of it will get you nowhere. There are hardly any times times where you
can get a full combo on him, and even when you come up behind him you might not
be able to hit him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~~~BOSS FIGHT - Kyuuki~~~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once you finally kill it, a cutscene will play showing Kyuuki disintegrating,
and Lau appearing back at the Yagoda. He sees Yohfa lying on the ground and Lau
says his second word in the whole game: "Yohfa." Yohfa tells Lau to set her
free. Lau lifts his sword and Naguri's soul appears, telling him to strike
only the demon, and not the girl. Lau nods and strikes, killing the demon
inside. Yohfa smiles at Lau, telling him that she's free and Lau creates
a portal. Yohfa asks him if he is about to fight Rei, and Lau jumps into the
portal, with Naguri saying "Free us Lau".
Lau lands on a rock in space, and noticed Rei straight away. Rei jumps onto
the moon and slices it, cutting it in half. Lau jumps onto the hemisphere, and
Rei shows off his sword skills, telling Lau about his feelings for Yohfa.
The real Rei speaks here, although it can be hard to hear. He asks Lau if he
is here to save him or kill him, and the demon Rei tells Lau that he will
make his decision an easy one.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~~~BOSS FIGHT - Rei Jenron~~~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is it, the final battle. Rei starts off by producing 5 swords in each
hand, making him look harder than he really is.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<>~~~BOSS FIGHT - Rei Jenron~~~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rei's body floats away into space, and he laughs at Lau before disappearing
into nothingness. The 2 halves of the moon collide, and the forces throws Lau
into a direct course with Earth. Not much of a final cutscene but it could
open ways for a sequel. Here's hoping.
Watch the credits and you will unlock the Movie Viewer under "Special Options"
which lets you watch any of the CG sequences in the game, including the
credits.
Once you complete the game for the first time the title screen will change to a
picture of Lau and will say "Bujingai" when you press Start.
In this section I will describe to you everything that I have so far unlocked
in the game. I will not have everthing straight away but if you have something
that I don't, let me know and I will add it here, giving you full credit for
finding it.
In this menu you will find everything that has been unlocked in the game. There
are a large number of things to unlock in this game, so this section will not
be completed soon I wouldn't imagine. I will add everything as I get it in
here.
So far my Special Options menu looks like:
<>~Lau Costume Settings~<>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here you can change Lau's costume. He has 2 costumes in the game, his default
costume and another costume which is unlocked with 40 Taikyokuin. This costume
is the Gackt costume.
Costume 1
Costume 2
Costume 1 is the Lau costume while Costume 2 is the Gackt costume. The Gackt
costume features Lau with a new haircut, sunglasses, a snakeskin jacket and
skin tight black trousers. It's Gackt alright.
Unfortunately, only the default costume is shown in the CG sequences. Even if
you have the Gackt costume selected the CGs will still show Lau's original
costume.
Scattered around the game you will find golden octagonal coins floating in the
air. These are called "taikyokuin" and there are 120 of them in total. By
collecting these taikyokuin you will unlock some hidden features in the game.
I will perhaps sometime get round to posting the locations of each of these
coins, but for now they will all be mentioned in the main walkthrough.

miss it.
5. In Area 4 look above you as the area starts and it's right there.
6. In Area 4 after climbing the poles, run down the stairs and over to it.
7. In Area 5 run up the ramp near the start, kill the demons and climb the
crates.

This section answers numerous questions about the game that I have seen being
asked, or questions that I think might be asked often.
Q. Who is Gackt?
A. See section 01.1 to find out.
Q. This game is too short!
A. True, the game is quite short, but with 120 Taikyokuin to collect, a
vast amount to unlock and 4 difficulties it will take a while.
Q. I can't find a certain Taikyokuin.
A. See section 06.2 to find out the locations of all the Taikyokuin that
I have found. Don't blame me if there are some that aren't there. I just
haven't found them yet.
Q. Where abouts is [Spell]?
A. See section 04.5 for information on all the spell locations.
Q. How do you know how many Spell Points a spell does?
A. Go the Status menu and you will see a numerical number for your current
and maximum Health Points and Spell Points.
Q. I have a better boss strategy than you!
A. Well use that one then. This isn't a boss guide, it's a walkthrough.
Also, even if it were a boss guide my strategies would only a few
different ways to kill the boss. My strategies normally use patience so
if you're not patient don't use my strategies. Some of the bosses
require patience anyway (like Kyuuki).
