Athens 2004 (PS2)
FAQ v1.2 (9/24/2004) by SqueakyD
Introduction
------------
"The Olympic Movement is symbolized by five interlaced rings, which show
the universality of Olympism and the meeting of the Athletes of the world
during the Olympic Games...
Very few people get the chance to compete at the Olympic Games, but
ATHENS 2004 puts you in the Olympic arena alongside the world's top athletes.
Good luck!"
-pg 2 of the Athens 2004 Manual
This is my second FAQ. The first one was on ESPN International Track and Field
for the PS2. You can also find it hosted on GameFAQs under the name "SqueakyD".
SHOULD YOU BUY THIS GAME? It depends. If you want a great multiplayer
party game, then you can't beat the ones that demands so much torture on the
players. (Yes, Karaoke Revolution can be torture to everyone NOT playing.)
Although the price may be too high at $39.99, you'll still have fun with it.
With more varied events than ESPN International Track and Field, Athens 2004
is a must try for anyone that loves the button mashing games. But give it a
rental first, because ESPN may just be the better game due to it's price tag.
DANCE PAD OWNERS. This game does have a special mode for those who are fans of
Dance Dance Revolution that also own a dance pad. Remember the NES Power Pad
and Athletic World? You'll do all the running, jumping and floor exercises
using the special controls for the dance pad. If you own a multitap, 4 pads
and have 3 friends, you've got yourself an Olympic party. Soon there will be
additional info on how to play each event with the pad, etc.

Other Questions?
----------------
Q: "What is the fastest way to press the X/O buttons?"
-from James
A: "Personally, I play the game with the controller set on
the floor. I use two hands for the button mashing, my
left index finger for the X button, and the right
index for the O button. My left pinky is on the L1.
When I have the controller off the floor I use the
sides of my left and right thumbs for X/O (with left
pointer finger on the L1 button).
I tried using the one hand with pointer and middle on
the X and O. For me, I can press the buttons the same
rate, sometimes even faster. Unfortunately with that
method I get tired REAL quick.
I've heard some other crazy things though, like using
the side of a marker pen and sliding it back and forth
over the X/O buttons as fast as possible. I never had
success with that.
Whatever works for you, stick with it. I recommend
practicing on events that actually show a power meter,
like Pole Vault. The faster you can get the meter up,
you know you're doing something right!
Just be sure that your fingers kept as close to the
buttons as possible when you play. I played against a
friend that lifed his fingers literally up in the air
three or four inches after each press. That was a
waste of energy and time."
Q: "Will a turbo controller work well for this game?"
-from Jason
A: I doubt it. Most turbo controllers have been made
to send a rapid signal from the controller at
simultaneous times when holding down more than one
button. So if you held down X and O with Turbo
on, the controller would act as if you pressed
X/O rapidly at the same time. And as you know, the
events ask you to press the X/O buttons alternately,
not simultaneously.
Q: "Are there any hidden events?"
A: As of this time, there has been no confirmed code
that exists that will unlock other events.
Q: "Does using USA give me an advantage?"
A: All players are equal in the game, no matter what
country they choose to play as. Their success
depends on the player's performance.
In Challenge Mode, the players who tend to do well
will be handicapped in later events.
