Hi there, like many other people, you are probably trying to get through the
Ape Escape 2 Time Trials. One of the most common questions people get is: "Do
I need to get Gold on the Time Trials to get 100& complete?". The answer is
YES! It may be difficult, but that is why I decided to write this guide. It is
my goal to help get you through the Time Trials with all Golds. Every route I
give is what I believe to be the fastest route or the easiest to get gold on.
Now, before you start you start doing the Time Trials, I highly reccommed
getting all 300 monkeys. It isn't hard and doesn't take long, and it makes the
Time Trials much easier. Also, go through all the levels, and just get used to
the layout of the levels. Some levels require going backwards, so try to hit
all the switches while going through Story mode.

| 2. General Hints & Tips |

1. Whenever there is an area where you are just running, use the Super Hoop to
go much faster.
2. When using the Super Hoop, if you keep rotating the analog stick while you
are running, you can run for longer than if you just let go once it got
charged.
3. The Magic Punch is much more powerful than the Stun Club, so bosses take
more damage when hit by the Magic Punch.
4. Sometimes it is faster or just easier to run strait past a monkey without
capturing it.
5. Diving is faster than running or jumping. So if you need to run a short
distance which doesn't require the Super Hoop, dive instead of running. (To
dive, press R1 and R2 at the same time)
6. After you use a gadet, there is a short period where you can't move. To
eliminate this stoppage, quickly switch gadets right after you are done
using one.
7. You can lose cookies in Time Trial, but when you go back to the main area
(the hub), everything is back to how it was before you left. So don't be
afraid to take a lot of risks.
8. With #7 in mind, sometimes it is faster/easier to get hurt so that you are
invincible for a few seconds and don't have to waste time waiting for
something.

Gadgets needed: Monkey Net, Magic Punch, and Super Hoop
Once the level starts, equip the Super Hoop and run at the monkey that is
visible from where you are. Hit him with the Hoop and he should fall over.
Equip the Net and capture him. Run up the "stairs" and once you get up the last
one equip the Hoop again. Use the Hoop to run towards and knock down the monkey
that is standing in the pathway. Catch it while it is stunned and laying on the
ground. Use the Hoop to run towards the spotlight quickly and once you get
there, hit the spotlight with the Magic Punch to make the monkey in there jump
out of it. You can use the Magic Punch again to stun him, or if you are quick,
you can just use the Net to catch him as soon as he lands. The final monkey is
the one at the back of the level. Use the Hoop, or dive a few times to get
there quickly. Once you reach him, use the Magic Punch to stun him, then use
the Net to capture him.

Once you start, run onto the bridge and use the Hoop to get across it quickly.
There will be a monkey at the end of the bridge. Try to hit the monkey with the
Hoop, but if you stop running, use the Magic Punch to knock him down. Once you
do knock him over, capture him with the Net. From the end of the bridge, you
want to turn left (as if you are coming from where you started) and a monkey
will be in one of the wooden boxes that are by the fence. Use the Magic Punch
to break the box, then use it again to stun the monkey. Use the Net to grab the
monkey. Next, run around the large platform thing and you should bee another
box sitting in the grass. There is a monkey in this box also. Use the Magic
Punch to break open the box and use it again to stun the monkey. Capture the
monkey. The final monkey is sitting in a little niche behind a nearby building.
Where the box was, the building is right beside it. If you stand where the box
was and look at the building, you want to run to the left and the monkey will
be on the right. This monkey is very cowardly, so you can just use the Net to
go ahead and grab him.

When the timer is counting down, you will be able to see a monkey rowing a boat
across the screen. When you start, jump out towards that monkey. Try to jump up
onto the boat. You probably won't make it up there, but it will cause the
monkey to jump off and into the water. Once the monkey is in the water, use the
Aqua Net to capture him. Now, go back to where you started, and run up to where
the bridge is. There will be a monkey on the closest brige. Use the Magic Punch
to knock him down and then capture him with the Monkey Net. Now, there is a gap
somewhere by the end of the bridge. Jump down it and then swim into and alcove.
Jump out onto the surface and use the Magic Punch to hit the monkey that is
running around in there. Capture this monkey with the net. Once you have done
that, look around for the large box in this area. Use the Magic Punch once
again to break the box and unleash the monkey within. Stun him and switch to
the Monkey Net. Capture the monkey to finish the level.

As soon as you start, start revving up the Super Hoop. Blast up the ramp. Once
you get to the top, jump so that you stop running with the Super Hoop and
switch to the Magic Punch. Stun the monkey standing up there and capture him as
fast as possible. Drop down the side and look for the closest box. Break it
open and a monkey will start running around. Knock him down and then use the
Net to get him. Now, there will be a fast monkey running around, most likely
will will be on the opposite side of where you started... near the stairs. Use
the Super Hoop to stop him, then as fast as you can, switch to the Net and
capture him. If you are taking too long to get this monkey, forget about him
and move on. Now, run through the doorway and equip your Super Hoop. Once you
re-appear use the Super Hoop to knock down the blue monkey running up and down
the alleyway right in front of you. This is probably the toughest monkey to get
in this level, so don't get frustrated if it takes a while to be able to get
him. Once you do get the blue monkey, there will be a monkey with cape. Use the
Magic Punch to stun him. He doesn't run around like most monkeys, but is able
to avoid all your first attacks. Just try to hit him twice, and you will get
him. Catch this monkey. Now if you got the fast monkey at the beginning of the
level, then you are done. But if you decided to skip this monkey, you have to
get one more. The next easiest monkey to get is the the right of the cape
monkey. He is another blue monkey, but he trips and falls a lot. So catch up to
him with the Super Hoop, and eventually he will fall or you will hit him with
the Hoop. Capture him either way and you will be done.

This is the easiest Freaky Monkey Five battle. Once you start, equip the Magic
Punch and start running towards Blue Monkey. Once he is getting close, use the
Magic Punch and hit his shield thing. Immediately after that, hit him again to
do some damage. Run back off the "bridge" part to where you started, and he
will go to the opposite side. When the "bridge" turns back to blue, he will
charge at you again. Again, use the Magic Punch to remove his shield, and hit
him again for the damage. Now, Blue Monkey will start throwing bombs on the
ground, and you want to avoid those. He will turn the corner and the area where
you were just standing will turn yellow/red. You want to run over to the area
where Blue Monkey started, and he will charge you again. Do the same thing as
before and he will be beaten. Once the little pause is over, equip the Monkey
Net and capture him. Easy.

At the start of the level, there will be a box on the left side of the path.
Use the Magic Punch to destroy the box and let out the monkey. Stun him with
the Magic Punch, then capture him while he is down with the Monkey Net. Now,
turn towards the right side of the path. Look at the graves. There is a largish
one close to the fence. You must use the Magic Punch to open this one up. Once
it is open, you will be faced with a monkey in armor. Use the Magic punch on
him again to remove the armor. He will also be knocked down when you do this,
so take this time to catch him. Now you want to continue down the path into the
archway. When you re-appear, use the Super Hoop, or just dive a few times to
get to the stairs. Jump up the stairs and use the Magic Punch to stun the
monkey, and capture him. Now, there are two possible paths you can take from
here. If you look to the left side path, and it is open, go to method 1. If the
left side is block, then go to method 2.
Method 1:
Run through the left side hall and then drop down the stairs and run into the
underground area. Once you get through, there will be two scientist monkeys.
You only need to catch one of them. Just run up to the table and jump onto it.
If one of the monkeys is still close enough to hit with the Magic Punch, do so
and capture him. If they are too far, then just chase one of them down and hit
him. Then capture him.
Method 2:
Take the only open path up the stairs. Jump onto the floating chairs, but be
careful not to fall. If you fall, you will probably not be able to get a Gold
Trophy. Anyway, continue to go across the chairs. Once you reach the second set
of stairs, go ahead and go across again. Now, there will be a door on the right
side of the hall. Go in there and look to the right. You will see a picture
right in the middle of the wall with a monkey face on it. Hit the picture with
the Magic Punch and a monkey wil jump out. Hit the actual monkey again and then
catch him with the Net.

Vita-Z Factory is one of the hardest levels to get Gold on, in my opinion. Ok,
First thing you want to do is start using the Super Hoop immediately! Run
strait forward towards the brown square in the side of the wall. Hit it with
the Super Hoop and it will be destroyed. Switch to the Magic Punch and find the
monkey within the room. Hit the monkey and capture him with the Monkey Net.
Now, run out the same way you came in, and charge the Super Hoop. To the left
side of you, you will see another brown square. Hit it with the Super Hoop and
equip the Magic Punch again. Stun the monkey inside and capture him, just like
you did on the other monkey. Now comes the hardest part. Run back outside the
small room and equip the Super Hoop. Charge it up while you are finding the
last monkey. The monkey will be somewhere in the large group on enemies. What
makes this hard is the fact that there are so many enemies to bounce you off
course, and also the guy you are looking for has a raygun, which slows you down
a lot if you get hit. Anyway, once you find the guy, start running towards him
and knock him down. Get out your Monkey Net and capture him. That's it. Your
done. Gold is hard. It took me a long time to finally get it.

This is one of my favorite levels. What is great about this level is that you
are basically running is a strait line throughout the entire level. Keep that
in mind when you are playing the level.
When you start, you will see a Machinegun monkey right in front of you. Use the
Super Hoop to get there before he starts shooting, and also to knock him down.
Capture him with the Monkey Net while he is on the ground. Now, jump up onto
one of the circle platforms that are going around the stage in the middle of
the level. Once you get on top, jump into the stage and hit the disco monkey
with the Magic Punch to put him out of commission. Capture him while you can.
Now, on th opposite side of where you came up, there will be another Machinegun
monkey on the ground. Jump or dive down and try to get him before he starts to
shoot at you. Capture him once you are able to knock him down. Run towards the
stairs and run up them, or you can jump up on the wall pretty high up there.
Run into the black abyss. On the inside of this room, there will be two more
Machinegun monkeys. It is very easy to avoid their shots, by running to the
right of the black table they are standing behind. Use the Magic Punch to knock
down the first one, and capture him. The other one will still be shooting in
the wrong direction, so don't worry about him while dealing with the first one.
As soon as you get the first monkey, swtich back to the Magic Punch and take
out the other monkey, then capture him like you have done every other monkey.

Gadgets needed: Monkey Net, Super Hoop, R.C. Car
Use the Super Hoop or just dive all the way up to the gate thing where the
sleeping monkey is. Change to the R.C. Car and send it into the cage. Drive the
thing around in there without actually hitting the monkey. The goal is to lure
the monkey out of the cage. He will eventually start to crawl under one of the
gaps at the bottom. When he starts to do this, change to the Monkey Net. You
want to swing the net when his head starts to poke out the gap. If he manages
to get out of the cage, just use the R.C. Car or Magic Punch to stop him. Once
you get that one, use the Super Hoop to dash towards the fire hydrant-looking
statue. That is a monkey in hiding. Knock him out with the Super Hoop and
capture him with the Net. After that, use the Super Hoop again and go through
the wooden doorway and hit one of the monkeys that are near there. There are
two monkeys in this area. You can either search for the other and hit him with
the Magic Punch, or you can swim across the pool and get the monkey standing by
the water. Either way, once you get it, you are done with the level.

This level doesn't require any strategy other than you must use the Magic
Punch. It does more damage, so you only have to hit Yellow Monkey three times.
When he starts to lean back to run at you, run around the edge of the ring, and
right as he starts to run, stop and turn around. He will miss you, and then you
have the opportunity to hit him into the spikes. Just repeat this process until
he sits in the middle of the ring and you can capture him.

Once you start, run forward and dive down the stairs. Once down, use the Spuer
Hoop to run up the path. Eventually, you will have to make a right turn and
will be faced with two gun-totting monkeys. Use the Super Hoop again to stun
one of the monkeys (it doesn't matter which one) and capture him with the
Monkey Net. Now, use the Super Hoop or Magic Punch to knock down the other
monkey and capture him with the Net. Once you have those two difficult monkeys,
you want to run over to the big box in the area. Use the Magic Punch to bust it
open and release the monkey inside. You want to hit the monkey as fast as you
can with the Magic Punch, because he will start to breath fire at you, which is
difficult to avoid. Once you hit him, capture him also. Now, use the Super Hoop
to go back towards the path, and run past the piggy and into the opening. Once
you appear again, use the Super Hoop to reach the ice quickly. Jump to stop the
Hoop, and jump across the gaps until you reach the other side. There will be a
Machinegun monkey facing the other way, so use the Super Hoop to stun him
easily and catch him. Now, puch the block with the hands on it towards the
cliff thing. Jump up onto the block, then onto the cliff. Once one of the
golden pads comes around, jump onto it and let it carry you to the other area.
Jump off the pad, and then use the Super Hoop again to make your way past all
the enemies and to the gold pole. Climb up the pole, and jump off at the top.
There will be a raygun monkey very close to you. Hit it with the Magic Punch to
knock it down, and grab it.

At the beginning of the level, you will see a red monkey walking along a raised
step. Jump up on to the step, and the monkey will most likely jump up onto a
higher one. When you jump up there, be careful not to get too close to the
monkey, because it will start to attack you. While it is trying to attack, hit
it with the Magic Punch to knock it down and capture it with the Monkey Net.
Now, equip your Sky Flyer, and use it to fly across the little gap to the area
with the tomato bird (red, flying enemy). Now, get out your Slingback Shooter,
and shoot the button of the other side of the river. A set of stairs will come
out, and you can use your Sky Flyer to reach them. Once you make it over there,
ignore the island in the water, and head over to where a white monkey is
jumping around. Stun the monkey and grab him while he is immobile. Then, jump
up some more, and you will see a large rock. There is a monkey in there. Break
open the rock with the Magic Punch, then stun the monkey that was inside of it.
Catch him to finish the level.

Once you start, run up to the monkey buried in the sand and capture him with
the Monkey Net. Now, run up to the monkey sitting in the chair, and try to grab
him while he is still laying there. It is hard to do. If he starts to run away,
use the Magic Punch to stop him, and then capture him. Now, run towards the
ocean and capture the other monkey that is trapped in the sand. Once you get
him, run inside the hut that is on the beach. Run up behind the monkey that is
trying to put on his pants, and capture him. You can use the Magic Punch if you
think it will help. Now, run back out of the hut, and strait ahead of you will
be another monkey. Use the Magic Punch as soon as you get in range of him. When
he is stunned, capture him with the Net. The final monkey you want to catch is
stuck in a seashell near the volleyball court. Stop near the actual net, and
get out the Bananarang. Shoot the Bananarang at the monkey, and he will jump
out of the shell, and you can catch him pretty easily.

Like all the other Freaky Monkey Five Battles, there isn't a speed tactic for
this level. To beat Pink Monkey, you have to make your way up to the stage, and
then hit her with the Magic Punch. After one or two hits, Pink Monkey will get
angry and turn to "Dark Pink Monkey". Her attacks change once this happens.
You will need to use the Sky Flyer to avoid some of the electirc attacks. To
get Gold, you don't even need to hit her at every opportunity. Just remember to
use the Magic Punch and this is an easy Gold.

This is also a very fun level. I will try to explain my specific strategy, but
the way the monkeys run will probably not always turn out exactly the same.
First, run or jump down the couple of stairs right in front of you. Now, use
the Super Hoop to run out into the large group of monkeys. Now, when I play the
level, there is a monkey dressed in light blue on the right that will start to
run to the right, away from most of the other monkeys. I hit him with the Hoop,
and capture him. After that, there should be a few red monkeys that will try to
attack you. Hit them with the Magic Punch, and that should be at least 3
monkeys that you have captured. For the last monkey, you will probably have to
go searching for it. They are all over the place, and they don't always go to
the same place, so you will have to find the last one on your own.

This is one of the levels in which it is much easier to have completed the
entire level before you do the Time Trial. Before you do the Time Trial, start
the level, and right in the starting room, run down to where the water is, and
look to the right. You want there to be a series of "steps" coming out of the
wall. If they aren't there, play through the level and get them there, I don't
know how to do it, so you will just have to experiment. Once you get the steps
to come out, start the Time Trial.
At the start of the level, jump onto the top of the pillars to your right, then
stop at the edge of the large platform. Use the Bananarang to lure the monkey
in the cage out. Once the monkey jumps out of the cage, jump down to the floor
and capture him. He should still be lusting over the scent when you capture
him. Once you get him, run up the stairs and equip the Super Hoop. Use the
Super Hoop the stun the monkey with the rockets. Or you can try to use the
Magic Punch, if you are really quick. Either way, once he is down, use the
Monkey Net to capture him. Now, run over to those steps I was talking about
before. Jump up all the steps and run through the door. Now, there will be a
large area that is "inside". Anway, there are two monkeys in this area. One of
them is the infamous Tommy (the wizard monkey). You want to stay as far away
from him as possible. Go inside the area and look for the monkey that is NOT
the wizard. Use the Super Hoop to get to him and knock him out. Use the Monkey
Net to catch him. Now, if you find running around in this area too hard, then
you can search around the "outside" of this area to find one of the blue
monkeys that are running around. But I find it is faster to just get the one on
the "inside".

At the start of the level, dive towards the dancing monkey on the little stage
thing. He will most likely jump off and run away. Use the Magic Punch to stop
him and knock him down. Use the Monkey Net to capture him now. Run out onto the
path leading to main pyramid. Use the Super Hoop to run up the path and then up
the ramp and into the pyramid. Once inside, use the Super Hoop again to run at
the monkey stading out in the middle of the room. Be careful though, because
the floor is bobby trapped. Some sections of the floor fall out when you run
over them. Run out there towards him and hit him with the Hoop to knock him
down. Capture him with the net. Turn to the left of where you came in, and run
around the corner. Jump over the gap onto the "bridge" and then jump over the
next gap. Run down the stairs and use the Magic Punch to knock out the monkey
by the "monkey sphinx". Capture him. Next, dive into the water, and swim
through the rolling spikes. Jump out of the water at the end of the tunnel, and
use the Magic Punch to stun the monkey on the surface, and grab the monkey once
you hit him. You are now done with this level.

Hmmm, another Freaky Monkey Five Battle. And yet again, there is not much
strategy. Well, here are some tips:
Be sure you are able to hit White Monkey quickly once his force field goes
down. To do this, run around Giant Jimmy, so that White Monkey is close to a
wall, that way, he has less ways to run away. The laser beam attack is the
fastest attack, but it doesn't really matter because you have tons of time. The
final thing is, ALWAYS use the Magic Punch!

Gadgets needed: Monkey Net, Magic Punch, Super Hoop, Water Cannon, Aqua Net
This level is hard. At the start, equip the Super Hoop immediately. Run down
the step, and charge the Super Hoop. Run at the monkey on the left side. He
will probably get to the cannon too fast, but don't worry about that. Instead
of waiting for him to shoot himslef out, run at the other monkey that is
cleaning the deck of the ship. Use the Magic Punch to stun him, then catch him.
If he is able to make it into the cannon, just wait for him to shoot himslef
out, and capture him when he lands. Now, run around the deck and find the other
monkey. Use the Super Hoop or Magic Punch to eventually stun him. You need to
be able to catch these two monkey pretty fast, otherwise you won't be able to
get Gold. Once you get those two monkeys, run back up to the steering wheel
thing. As you are running up there, you will probably notice a monkey standing
on the edge of the ship. Well, that is actually two monkeys. Jump up there and
catch the first one pretty easily. Now, you have to catch the second one before
he jumps off the end of the pole thing to get a good time. If he does jump off,
just use the Aqua Net to catch him. Now that you have all four monkeys on the
pirate ship, you have to go to the next area. Use the Super Hoop once you get
on the beach and run up to the flames blocking the entrance to the cave. Just
get hurt by it, then run through it while you are invincible.
Now, get out your Water Cannon as you are running to the boardwalk thing. You
can turn left or right, it doesn't matter. Start spraying it at the rock enemy.
Keep spraying and stray the flame on across the little gap. Once it is out, the
platform will start to rise. Jump onto the platform as quickly as possible,
then proceed to jump up to the higer area with the cannons. If you can, use
the Magic Punch to stun one of the monkeys up there and catch him. If they
manage to jump into a cannon before you stun them, just jump back down and use
the Magic Punch there. Capture either one of the monkeys to finsh the level.
Remember, this level is very hard, so it will probably take you awhile to get
the perfect run.

As soon as you start, use the Super Hoop the get to the moving platforms as
fast as possible. You should be able to reach the first platform, just as it
starts to go back towards the other side of the ice. Jump across the platforms
and once you get to the stationary area, turn to the left and use the Magic
Punch to break the ice around the frozen monkey, then hit him with the Magic
Punch. Use the Monkey Net to capture him when he is stunned. You should be able
to get that monkey at around 13 seconds. Now, jump on to the platform that is
going towards the archway. Run through the archway once you get across the gap.
Use the Super Hoop to run across the landing you are on. I always run to the
left side of the green jelly guys. Make your way up the constantly changing
steps, and use the Super Hoop again to make it to the sauna. Once you get in
the sauna, run strait forward and capture the monkey sitting on the rock. He
won't see you until you are right next to him. Then, capture the monkey that is
sitting right next to him. Now, turn to the left, and jump up the steps. At the
top of the steps, you will see three monkeys dancing or something. Use the
Magic Punch to stun one of them really quickly, and capture him. Now, all you
have to do is chase down either one of the other two monkeys and stun and grab
him. That's it, you done.
