This Walkthrough is not in any way affiliated with or endorsed
by Sony and/or Squaresoft.  This walkthrough shows explicit details
on how to solve the game.  If you don't want to lose the excitement
or challenge of solving the entire game yourself, ignore this
walkthrough.  Anyway, I won't be telling you what they will be
talking about (unlike the other Xenogears walkthrough) so as not
to spoil the surprises in the storyline.

The names of the 'chapters' in the walkthrough are based upon the
names in the saved games when a memory cube or the world map is
available in the game.  This is a linear game so the story is told
as it is.  You can't do shortcuts although you can spend more time
  exploring an area.

FAQ HISTORY

I really had no intention of making a FAQ for Xenogears when I
first played this game.  I have played the first part of Disc 1
around 8 times already and I feel like I've memorized every twist
and turn and jumps, too!  The reason for playing Xeno many many
times is because um, something's wrong with my memory cards (all
three of them! To think they're all Sony originals) because after
some time of saving/loading, *poof* all the contents are gone!
Yes folks, even my Tekken 3, Bust A Groove, Silent Hill, NFS, FF7
and other saved games!  Now I'm itching to buy a DexDrive so that
I can backup my saved games in my PC.

 |=|==================== THINGS TO CONSIDER =======================|=|
 |=|                         (part 1)                              |=|
 |=|                                                               |=|
 |=|   There are two kinds of battles in this game.  Human battle  |=|
 |=|   and gear battle.  The gear battle is more complicated as it |=|
 |=|   involves more variables.                                    |=|
 |=|                                                               |=|
 |=|      Health Points / Ether Points / Attack Points /           |=|
 |=|                    Deathblows / Combos                        |=|
 |=|                                                               |=|
 |=|  HP - commonly known as "life" or the number of units in      |=|
 |=|       your life gauge.  When an enemy hits you and            |=|
 |=|       successfully wounds you, your HP goes down, depending   |=|
 |=|       upon the level attack and your vulnerability.           |=|
 |=|                                                               |=|
 |=|  EP - Ether points.  I'd like to call them magic spells but   |=|
 |=|       they actually differ from character to character. The   |=|
 |=|       degree of ether spells made consumes different amount   |=|
 |=|       of ether points. A strong ether spell will consumer     |=|
 |=|       larger amounts of EPs.                                  |=|
 |=|                                                               |=|
 |=|  AP - These attack points increase along the game.  At first  |=|
 |=|       you might probably have 3 usable attack points per      |=|
 |=|       turn.  If if you didn't use all the 3 APs, then the     |=|
 |=|       remaining APs will be used to learn deathblows.         |=|
 |=|                                                               |=|
 |=|  Deathblows - Compared to normal attacks, the deathblows are  |=|
 |=|       more powerful.  Deathblows are learned by accumulation  |=|
 |=|       of unused APs.  The learning is quite controversial.    |=|
 |=|       Many people say that the APs accumulated used to learn  |=|
 |=|       a deathblows are from fights where a character didn't   |=|
 |=|       use a deathblow but in my experience, there are times   |=|
 |=|       when characters learn deathblows even if I consistently |=|
 |=|       used deathblows in all my fights.                       |=|
 |=|                                                               |=|
 |=|  Combos - When fighting in a long battle, your AP will        |=|
 |=|       increase if you keep on leaving some unused APs after   |=|
 |=|       every turn. Deathblows have certain AP requirements so  |=|
 |=|       if you have lots of unused APs, you can do combos--a    |=|
 |=|       series of deathblows done at the same time.             |=|

  GETTING THE HIDDEN MONEY
This is the first part of the game, you'll have to go through a
long "sequence" where you'll press <X> everytime after you read the
text shown. After the sequence, you will see Fei painting something.
Then he mentions resting so go to the bed near the pillow and click
on <X> to get his hidden money.

  GETTING THE AQUASOL
Go out of the room and turn left.  Enter the room with barrels.
Stand in front of a barrel and click <X> to get the aquasol.  There
are two barrels so you'll get 2 aquasols.

  --------------------------------------------------------------------
  from <[email protected]>

After you get the two barrells with the aquasols, if you rotate,
you'll see a spider web, jump up and get it.

  --------------------------------------------------------------------

  THE WEDDING MEETING
Now, get out of the room and head to the stairs.  Go up to the next
floor.  You'll see a bunch of people talking.  I recommend you talk
to each of them to see what's up.

  DAN
Go out of the room by opening the door facing the stairs.  Dan will
burst into the room.  Remember how Dan looks (not the close-up look)
because you'll be looking for him in the town.  After talking to
you, he'll leave the house and you should go out, too.

As soon as you're out the house, you'll see a road leading to
different parts of the town. Head [left] and turn [right] at the
first fork in the road.  There you'll see Dan near the door.  Talk
to him.  He'll make you decide something.  I don't think choosing
  any will affect anything.

  GOODIES IN TOWN
Why not explore the town?  Although not necessary, you'll discover
  lots of goodies around.

  ALICE
Dan is actually standing near another fork in the road.  Turn
[right] and you'll see a woman standing in [front] of a door.  Talk
to her.  Get in the house.  Go up the stairs and when you get up,
Fei will talk to Alice.  After talking to her, you'll find Fei at
the bottom of the stairs again.

  GOING TO THE MOUNTAIN
Get out of the house.  Now, retrace your steps and go to the first
fork in the road you passed by when you were going to see Dan.  The
other road will lead to the mountain where Dr. Citan Uzuki is.  Use
that road to leave the town.

                          *************************
                          * 2 * MOUNTAIN PATH *****
                          *************************
  BATTLING
Once out of town, you'll experience your first battle.  There are
jackals and hobgobs around.  When attacking, I suggest you use <X>
because this is the most powerful (therefore, it consumes the
largest amount of AP) attack.  If you use weaker attacks, you are
not eliminating your enemies ASAP (in this case) which will give
them more chances of killing you.  When you see that your HP is
dangerously low, go to ITEMS when its your turn and use AQUASOL to
increase your HP.  If your HP becomes zero at this point of the
game, the game will be over.

You may 'escape' if you think that you're going to lose in a
particular battle but take heed--escaping won't work always.
Sometimes they will result to lost turns instead and this will
  put you in disadvantage.

After every successful battles (meaning battles where you and/or
your party members win, you'll get corresponding 'experience'
points.  As these points increase, so will your level.  Certain
deathblows may only be used after reaching a particular character
  level.

NOTE : Using X during battle might be making your character do
powerful attacks but the chances of missing is increased.

  THE MEMORY CUBE
You'll see a memory cube as you go straight up the road. In Final
Fantasy VII, there are no memory cubes but instead, there are
  'Save Points.'

 |=|==================== THINGS TO CONSIDER =======================|=|
 |=|                         (part 2)                              |=|
 |=|                                                               |=|
 |=|                  WHEN YOU MAY SAVE YOUR GAME                  |=|
 |=|                                                               |=|
 |=| Memory Cubes - when you get to a memory cube, click on <S>    |=|
 |=|    and you'll launch the menu.  Click on File and then save.  |=|
 |=|                                                               |=|
 |=| World Map - if you get out of a town or place, you'll see the |=|
 |=|    world map.  You may save on any part of the world map.     |=|
 |=|===============================================================|=|

THE ROAD TO DOC UZUKI'S HOUSE
After the memory cube is a road fork.  Go [left] until you reach
the end of the cliff.  You will be able to see the path leading to
Doc's house at the top of the mountain.  Go [back] to the road
  fork.

Use the [right] road and walk until you reach another cliff.
You have to jump to the other side.  A long jump is recommended in
this one.  Go back a few steps and press <c> (running button).
Now, press the directional button (to the direction of the cliff)
and when you reach the end of the cliff, press <t>.  This will make
Fei do a running jump.  You have to estimate the point where Fei
do the takeoff in his long jump.  If you jumped earlier than needed,
chances are, you'll find yourself at the bottom of the cliff and you
have to climb up again.  If you jumped later than recommended then
you might not be able to jump at all and instead you'll go directly
  down the cliff.

On the other side, you'll see a tree.  There's a kid there and you
can talk to him if you want to.  There's another cliff and another
long jump is needed in this one.  If you fall, you'll find yourself
down again.  You'll see the memory cube and from there go up again.

After crossing, turn right and you'll see a bridge.  Cross it then
turn [right] again.  Follow the road up to Doc's house.

  LOOKING FOR DOC UZUKI
When you enter his place, you'll see a house on your right with
tree near the door.  Enter the door and when you're in the house,
you'll see Yui--the mother, on the other room.  Talk to her.

Go out of the house and walk to the back of the house and you'll
see another house.  Go near the door and Fei will be calling for
Doc. You'll see Doc tinkering with a machine at the roof of the
  house.

  THE STOREROOM
Enter the store room and you'll see a big box at the center of the
room.  Go to the left side of the box and click on <X> (examine).
Now, go to the front of the box and examine it.

                          **************************
                          * 3 * FALLEN SHADOWS *****
                          **************************

  BACK TO LAHAN
After leaving Doc's place, go straight to the bridge and cross it.
Before you reach the other end, you'll see something in the sky and
Doc will be running to you.  After chatting with him, run back to
the memory cube you saw before and {SAVE}.  Go back to Lahan by
  retracing your steps.

You will be watching a short animation then you'll find yourself
  riding the empty gear.

 |=|==================== THINGS TO CONSIDER =======================|=|
 |=|                         (part 3)                              |=|
 |=|                                                               |=|
 |=|                         GEAR BATTLES                          |=|
 |=|                                                               |=|
 |=|   This will be your first time to battle with gears.  Take    |=|
 |=|   note of the FUEL, ATTACK LEVEL.  A short introduction will  |=|
 |=|   be given to the gear battles when you get in Weltall.  As   |=|
 |=|   you noticed, <X> causes more damage than the other attacks. |=|
 |=|                                                               |=|
 |=|===============================================================|=|

A single <X> attacks will put each of the enemy gears temporarily.
But they'll be back and see what happens.

After a long sequence, you're back to town.

                          **************************
                          * 4 * INTO THE WOODS *****
                          **************************

  WORLD MAP
When you find yourself in the world map, go to the place with lots
of trees.  When you see the name "Blackmoon Forest" press <X>.

There are lots of hob gobs and other bad things in here so watch
out! This may be an opportunity for you to increase your experience
points.  Save the Aquasols for battles and use your Hob Jerky if you
want to regain your health during non-battles.

     o TIPS ON ENEMIES
o Jackals and Hobgobs -- a single <X> attack will kill them.
o Armor Grub -- they get little damage from your physical attacks
o    so use your CHI (ether spell).  When it's your turn in the
o    battle, push the up button in the directional button to
o    highlight CHI. Right now you'll probably have only Guided
o    Shot.  Select it and press <X> and then press <X> again.

  FINDING YOUR WAY
After entering the Blackmoon Forest, turn [left].  You'll see a rock
in the middle of the road.  Jump on it. From there you can jump on
to a bigger rock with ledges forming three steps.  Remember to press
<C> when pressing <T> to make higher jumps.  When you get to the
[top] of the steps, jump on the fallen log.  Take note that the log
is round so you might fall down if you stand near the edge.  At the
other end of the log, jump down.  Turn [right] until you reach
another fallen log with a big round rock on one end.  You might see
a hobgob blocking the rock.  To get it out of the way, you have to
initiate a fight by going to it and clicking <X> when you're near
it.  The rock will roll and to avoid being squashed, jump out of the
way!  If you jumped back to where you were walking before you got on
the log with the big round rock, you're in luck!  You'll see a save
point by walking to the other end.

After the rock has rolled away, jump back to the log and walk to the
place covered by rock before.  There will be another long sequence
of video and talking.  Estimated sequence time: 2 minutes.

     o TIPS ON ENEMIES
o Forest elf -- it packs a mean punch so concentrate your attack
o   on one elf at a time.

                         **************************
                         * 5 * GIRL IN FOREST *****
                         **************************

  FIRE TALK
Another sequence.  Expect sequences like these in the entire game.
Estimated sequence time: 3 minutes and 10 seconds.

  WALKING OUT
Now that you both are awake, it's time to get out of the place.
You will still see the familiar log where you passed by. Don't
go there, instead, use the road at the /NORTHEAST\ (see your
compass at the lower right of the screen).  Go up and then turn
[left].  Jump over the gap and go straight to the memory cube.

After saving your game, you'll see a chest.  Go near it and click
on <X> to get the SurvivalTent.  Now, cross another gap by walking
over the bridge made of rock.  After crossing you'll encounter some
  Dive Bombers.

     o TIPS ON ENEMIES
o Dive bombers -- these are airborne enemies.  Their 'flutter'
o    attack can cause a large amount of damage so remember to use
o    Aquasol every now and then. Use Chi--Guided Shot (for Fei)
o    and Ether--Wind Attack (for Elly).

Another sequence.  Estimated sequence time: 8 minutes and 45
seconds.  Watch where Elly walked out.  You'll have to go there,
  too.

  LEAVING THE FOREST
Another mega long sequence follows.  Weltall is damaged so as you
need to get repair parts from Dazil, a town across on the other
side of the forest.  Go back to the road you used before to exit
the place.  Before you get to exit the place, a sequence follows.
You'll find yourself in the world map.  Once in the world map, you
  may save your game.

                         * 6 *     DAZIL      *****
                         **************************

  TRAVELLING TO DAZIL
Once you're out of the forest you'll see a desert with a small city
enclosed by wall.  Travel by foot.  You might encounter some enemies
  along the way.  Enter Dazil.

    o TIPS ON ENEMIES
o Sand Man -- By this time you should have 4 usable APs per turn.
o    Since Sand Men are a bit fast, you might miss sometimes if
o    you use the <X> attack.  4 <T> attacks are recommended.

  ETHOS WORKSHOP
Enter the down and walk /SOUTH\ then turn /SOUTHWEST\.  You'll find
a steel building with cloth decorations making it look like a tent.
It's big compared to other structures in the area.  When Fei and
Citan enters the place, they should start talking. Talk to the guy
standing farthest from the green gear. Leave the building. A
sequence will follow.  Fei and Citan will now be found talking on
  a bridge.

  THE SAND BUGGY
Go down the bridge and head /EAST\ then turn /NORTHEAST\.  Walk to
sand buggy and Citan will start talking.  Go to the house nearest
the sand buggy talk to the person sitting behind the desk. Another
  talk sequence will happen.

  LEAVING DAZIL
When Citan leaves, the man behind the desk will talk to you.  Leave
the room and then head /NORTH\ to leave Dazil.

     o TIPS ON ENEMIES
o Sand Sharks -- Stronger than previous enemies, eliminate them
o   one at a time.  Your current Chi attack, the Guided Light,
o   will not affect them much.  Use up all your APs by using <X>
o   then <T> attacks in a single turn.  They will most likely
o   lower your accuracy (ACC) and when this happens, use as much
o   <T> attacks per turn instead.

As you walk further, you'll see gears, motorcycle and lots of
enemies.  Keep on walking forward.  There will be sequences every
  now and then.

    o TIPS ON ENEMIES
o Troopers -- Use <X> attacks on these tin gears.  On your second
o    turn, assuming that you attacked on the first turn, you'll
o    see the attack level will be 1.  Try a gear deathblow by
o    attacking using <T>.  You'll see an option below to press <T>
o    again to execute the Raigeki.  You'll see a dramatic increase
o    in the damage done.  After the use of deathblow, the level
    o    becomes zero once again.

  INSIDE THE SHIP
You'll find Fei and Citan a prisoner in a ship.  After watching nice
animation, Fei will wake up and Citan will talk wih him.  Finally!
A memory cube!  Now you can save your game again.

Keep on talking with Citan until he suggests that you rest.  Another
  sequence follows.

  ESCAPING THE SHIP
Leave through the door.  It's a bit hard to handle Fei and Citan now
because of the angle made by the floor.  Keep on pressing <C> to
run.  From your room, head /NORTH\ to the door.  Turn [right] to the
/EAST\.  There is a ladder against the wall.  Climb up.  Hurry!

As soon as you get up the second floor, head /SOUTH\ and you'll see
a memory cube.  Save your game.  Go back /NORTH\ near the place
where you were before (don't go down the lower floor).  Head /WEST\
  and turn /SOUTH\.

     o TIPS ON ENEMIES
o Aveh Soldiers -- A single <X> attack will usually kill them.
o Aveh Corporal -- A single <X> attack will usually kill them,
     o too.

Turn /WEST\ to see another ladder against a wall.  You'll find Fei
outside near the long arm of the crane.  After they talk with Doc,
jump to the arm of the crane to the /SOUTH\.  You need to HURRY!
You won't fall down all the way because Fei will somehow manage to
hold on and climb up. This will cause a DELAY!.

The crane's arm is made up of two large steel structures which you
may walk on to.  There are small parts which connect them and you
have to walk on them if there are obstacles on the steel structure
you are walking on.  Go as far as you can to the edge of the crane.
Fei will jump down the hanging thing and a sequence follows.

If you didn't make it on time, the game will be over.  You can load
again the game you saved when you were still inside the ship.

There will be some talk sequences following the end of the battle.

     o TIPS ON ENEMIES
o Tin Robo -- A rather clumsy gear, you can eliminate them
o   with your <X> attacks.  He often causes damage to himself
o   when he unsuccessfully attacks you and he falls down.

  THE ROCK
Save your game on the memory cube.  Go down and head /SOUTH\ until
you see a boulder blocking a cave.  Go to the rock and examine it.
When the rock is pushed away, a talk sequence will follow.

  THE LONG WALK
Head /SOUTHWEST\ and enter the misty entrance.  You will have to
take a long walk.  In this 'road' is filled with enemies so watch
  out!

NOTE: If you get into battle mode with a GRAY Gear, don't attack
it!  It may be a NOMAD FIX BOT! This is a good gear and he'll
repair your gear and restore your fuel.  If it's your turn to
attack, choose 'charge' instead.  After both of the gears have been
repaired and refueled, choose ESCAPE when it's your turn.

You think the walk is over at the end of the road. Nope, there's
still another path to take but this time, it's a long bridge.
At the end of the bridge, you'll find a white gear which gives
  information about the place.

  OLD MAN BAL
After talking with the gear, go on with the walk and you'll find
yourself in a place with Terrace Stones.  Climb on them and head
for the look for the memory cube at the /SOUTHEAST\.  Now go to
the small door on the [right] side of the memory card.

When you get in, you'll have a talk with the old man. After he talks
to Fei and Bart, talk to him again.

 |=|==================== THINGS TO CONSIDER =======================|=|
 |=|                         (part 4)                              |=|

 |=|                                                               |=|
 |=|  This is something you can't live without.  As you play the   |=|
 |=|  game, your enemies become more stronger and the damage they  |=|
 |=|  cause is higher.                                             |=|
 |=|                                                               |=|
 |=|  Fuel - In your attacks, you need fuel so when you see an     |=|
 |=|     opportunity to restore your fuel, do it! HP restore is    |=|
 |=|     done when you restore your fuel.                          |=|
 |=|                                                               |=|
 |=|  Engine - Determines the amount of fuel.  The better the      |=|

 |=|                                                               |=|
 |=|  Frame - Determines the maximum HP for your gear.  The better |=|
 |=|     the frame, the higher is the total HP.                    |=|
 |=|                                                               |=|
 |=|  Armor - increases your defense from enemy attacks.           |=|
 |=|                                                               |=|
 |=|  Remember that you will not only be tuning up your gear but   |=|
 |=|  your companions'.                                            |=|
 |=|===============================================================|=|

You will be fighting a STRONG gear named Calamity very soon so now
you'll need to tune up your gear.  Buy the best as possible if you
can afford them.  If not, don't worry, you'll be fighting more
enemies later and you can get money from them after defeating them.

  LOOKING FOR THE SAND SENSORS
At this point, the Terrace Stones have two exits.  The one in the
/NORTH\, the [right] one, the path which you used to come to the
place and another one at the /WEST\ side, or the [left] one,  over
the terraces.  The two sand sensors are found on both sides.

Go to the exit on the [right].  You'll find yourself back to where
the white gear is.  Talk to him for more information on where the
  sand sensors are.

  WATERFALL GROTTO SAND SENSOR
From the white gear, head /NORTHWEST\, under a bridge.  Jump over
that elevated portion and turn /NORTH\.  You'll see that there is
a higher elevated portion.  Jump to that place.  Remember to do
a running jump to reach it.  It is easier to jump if the you are
looking at the side view.  Examine the sand sensor to disengage it.

After disengaging that sand sensor, turn back and you'll see another
higher elevated portion.  Jump to it and examine the box to get the
  Iron GWhip.

     o TIPS ON ENEMIES
o May Fly -- One of the most destructive enemies on the road.
o   When it's Bart's turn to fight, use the Ether Machine to
o   do a Wild Smile spell on him.  This will lower the enemy's
o   defense and accuracy.  Without using Bart's Wild Smile, this
o   enemy is difficult to defeat.
     o
o Medusoid -- An annoying enemy since there are times when your
o   attacks can create a great deal of damage and sometimes you
o   can hurt them at all.  Use your most powerful attacks right
     o   away.

Retrace your step (/SOUTHEAST\) and go to back to the white gear
then back to the Terrace Stones.

  GREAT HALL SAND SENSOR
Climb up to the [left] exit.  You'll find yourself up the bridge
and you'll be able to see the white gear far below.  Go straight
back again to the long road.  You will encounter enemies along the
  road.

You'll find yourself back at the place where the huge round rock
was blocking the entrance to the cave.  Go /NORTH\ then turn
/WEST\ and get to the end of the bridge to see the sand sensor.
  Examine it to disengage.

Jump down then head /WEST\.  You'll find yourself at the entrance
of the cave again.  You'll find yourself walking back on the long
road.  Go straight and you'll see the white gear again.  When you're
back in Terrace Stones, go back to memory cube at Old Man Bal's and
  save your game.

  PREPARING FOR CALAMITY
Talk to Ol' Man Bal.  After a sequence, you'll find yourself back
inside your gear outside the house.  Get back to the house and look
for Ol' Man Bal and buy some gear parts from him.  Buy those parts
which you couldn't previously afford.  Remember to refuel when you
tune up your Engine and Frame.  Get out of the house and save the
  game in the memory cube.

  OUT THE CAVE
To the [right] side of Ol' Man Bal's house is the gate which was
closed during your fight with Bart but is now open.  Go through that
gate.  Go straight and then turn left.  Get out of your gears by
pressing L2+R2.  Examine the gondola.  After riding the gondola,
you'll find yourself in a place where there's this wooden building
with red light.  Go to the red light and examine it. Choose 'turn
on main power'.  The color of the light should change to green.
Ride back on the gondola.  Get on your gears again by pressing
L2+R2.  Head /WEST\ and examine the elevator to get down.

Head /SOUTH\ and you'll find a deep portion filled with diffent
things.  Don't stay too long there because it's filled with enemies.
After crossing the deep portion, you'll see another memory cube.
Save your game.  I mean it.

Go down the elevator near the memory cube.  You'll find yourself in
a place with a broken concrete road.  Walk to the end of the road
and watch CALAMITY arrive.  Get down and head /EAST\ and you'll
see Calamity start a fight with you.

with the yellow sign leads to the bridge, while the other one
is the elevator.  Enter the door with the yellow sign.

When you enter the bridge, go straight ahead to Sigurd.  He's
the guy with the white hair and violet clothes.  He looks like
Bart from a distance but Bart's hair is blonde and he wears

the sequence, leave the room.  Go to the planning room (see 5 in
the map).  After a sequence, go to 6 and save your game.

  THE TALK WITH BART
Enter Bart's room (number 4 at the map). A sequence follows. Really
exit the room this time.  Use the elevator to go down.  Go to
Yggdrasil's deck /SOUTH\ of the elevator.  Go to the door (more like
a hole in the floor) of Yggdrasil and Bart pop up and talk to you.

Now, exit the room then go to down using the elevator.  From the
elevator, head /NORTH\ then turn [left] to the /WEST\.  Turn [left]
again and go straight.  The end is another elevator.  Use it to go
  down the gear hangar.

  THE REQUEST
Get out of the elevator and you'll see Weltall on your left.  Go up
on the elevated platform on the side of your gear.  In front of
Weltall is a guy in brown. Talk to him.  A talk sequence follows.

  TUNING UP WELTALL
Go back to Yggdrasil.  Remember that it's on the other side of the
elevator.  The place where Bart popped up a while ago.  Get in and
you'll find yourself surrounded by the two doors and a ladder.
Open the door without any yellow markings on it.  That's the
leading to the place shown in the first map above.  Go A in the map,
the Gear Hangar.  Once in the gear hangar, go straight.  You'll see
a small store and enter it.  Tune up your gears because you'll be
facing a tough battle.  Always fill up your fuel the last.

Head back to the elevator which will take you back to the
residential area. Go to #6 on the map and save your game.  You might
want to eat a little snack first because you will be able to save
your game again in an hour.

After saving the game, talk to the man near the door.  He is wearing
brown clothes.  Choose the option which will make Fei rest.  A
  sequence follows.

Okay I lied, so you can still save your game before the long battle.
Save again!  Everyone's moving so you have to move yourself, too!
Leave the room and go down using the elevator. A sequence follows.

There will be another talk sequence.  After that, go in Yggdrasil
and head to the door with the yellow sign.  Save your game on the
  memory cube inside the room.

Talk to Sigurd and choose to leave the lair.  You'll find yourself
  in control of Yggdrasil.

Aveh (Bledavik) is on the other side of the mountains, still on
the desert.  It's like a small mountain with a castle on top. Get
out of the Yggdrasil once you're there.  The name 'Bledavik (Aveh)'
should come up and press <X> to enter the town.  A sequence follows.

  THE HOTEL
Upon entering the town, an old woman will run to you.  Tell her that
you don't have a hotel yet.  She will point to you a hotel.
Remember what it looks like because you will be going there after
  the conversation.

After talking to the old woman, walk /NORTH\ until you see the
stairs on left and right of the street.  Use the stairs on the
[left].  On top of the stairs is a house but that's not the hotel
yet.  Turn [left] (/WEST\) and the first door on the right is the
door of the hotel.  A sequence follows.  Save your gave on the
memory cube near the door.  Go up the stairs and into the room
of the woman.  Talk to her.

  LOOKING FOR CLUES
The room has a large window.  Jump out of the room via the window.
You'll find yourself out in roof of a house.  Run down to the
  street.

Now that you're back on the street, walk further /NORTH\ and you'll
see a second set of stairs on the [right].  Use it to go up and
go through that structure in the /EAST\.  There will be another
stairs on your [right] so use it to go up.  You will see a woman
getting water from the well.  Stand on the grill at the back of the
well and examine it.  The old man on the corner will tell you
  something about the key.

Go out of town to the /NORTH\ and enter South Shakhan Square.
There is a store on the right (/WEST\) whose storeowner has the
head of the goat.  Buy the Toy Gun.  Nearby you'll see another
person with the head of a hawk (brown head).  He's a kid, talk to
him TWICE.  Give the Toy Gun to him.  He'll tell you something.

Go /NORTH\ and leave town. Enter the Fatima Castle. Talk to the
guy wearing a peach colored coat and purple hat.  Enter the
tournament by registering on the colorful booth on the [left].

Leave the castle, head /SOUTH\ then enter North Shakhan Square.
Bart will rejoin you.  Leave the square using the exit on the
/SOUTH\.  Enter South Shakhan Square.  Keep on heading /SOUTH\
until you're back in town.  Use the stairs which led you to the
Hotel.  But instead of turning left to go to the hotel, turn
[right] until you see the hole in the wall structure.  This will
lead you to a wooden door.  Enter the room.  Turn [right] and
open another wooden door to leave the house.  You'll see a kid
standing near the hole in the floor.  Talk to him. Exit the place
by going through the hole in the floor.  Surprise!  As you reach
the bottom of the stairs, you'll see that you're directly in
front of the set of stairs on the other side of the street leading
to the well.  Go up, go through the hole in the wall, turn [right]
then talk to the old man in the corner.  Choose 'Rescue Margie' when
talking with him.  Leave the place and get back to the hotel and
talk to the woman in her room again.  After the talk sequence, talk
to Citan and tell him you want to get some rest.

                          **************************

                          **************************

When you wake up, go down to the first floor of the hotel and save
your game at the memory cube near the door.

You have two jobs to do here.  Fei should win the tournament and
Bart must find Margie and rescue her.  You will be shifting from
  one job to other.

Right now you have the control of Fei and Citan.  Leave the hotel
and go to the Fatima Castle by going /NORTH\, passing by all the
towns.  Once inside the castle, go to either Aveh soldier guarding
the entrance of the tournament place.  Then go straight ahead and
you'll see another soldier guarding the entrance.  Talk to him.
When he lets you through, go in the colorful tent on the [right].
Push the <S> button and equip Fei.  It will help Fei in the battle
if you use better equipment. Inside the tent, you will see a
familiar figure looking at the upper left corner.  Talk to him.  A
  sequence follows.

After the sequence you'll be able to control Bart.  Jump out of the
window and climb the stairs on the /EAST\ side of the town.  Go back
to the well where the old man is.  Stand on the grills and examine
it to open it.  Jump in!

/ Try not to lose this battle.  The game will continue but I'm  /
/ not sure if this will give Bart enough time.  Use a deathblow /
/ right away.  He will attack you with "can't take it anymore"  /
/ which is powerful considering the number of your HP and       /
/ experience.  Heal yourself with a chi spell, the 'Inner       /
/ Healing' when your HP drops to below 150.  The damage caused  /
/ by "can't take it anymore" can reach up to 140 so be careful! /
/ The guided shot chi spell will cause only 1 HP damage so it's /
/ not worth using it.  If you ran out of EP, you can use aquasol/
/ but it will only restore 50 health points.  After the battle, /
/ you'll have control of Fe's menu.  Go to ITEMS and restore    /
/ the EP using a Rosesol or Bizfruit if you have them and the   /
 / HP using Hob-Jerky or Aquasol.                                /
 /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

After the battle you'll be controlling Bart.  Take note that
you can swim faster by holding on to the <C> button.  You really
have to do this because the you'll be swimming against the current
and the speed of the water will increase every now and then.

The underground water system is a maze.  When you get down from the
ladder, head /NORTH\.  Turn /NORTHEAST\.  You'll notice that if you
don't press the <C> button, the current will pull you back when it
gets strong.  When it gets strong, pressing the <C> button will not
make you go forward but you won't get carried with the water either.
When the current slows down, then you can swim forward.  It is
a long swim before you get to any 'intersections'.  Turn /SOUTHWEST\.
In the next 'intersection', turn /NORTH\.  At the end you'll see
an intersection of two 'rivers'.  Choose the one that leads to the
/NORTH\.  At the end will be the floodgate.  Swim as near as possible
to the floodgate.  Don't worry, touching it won't hurt you.  When it
goes up, swim inside.  Once inside, go /NORTH\ and turn to /EAST\ and
climb on the ladder.  There is memory cube there so SAVE!  You've
come a long way so I recommend you save on another memory card for
backup.  You'll never know what will happen.  Anyhow, talk to the old
man weird brown.  Climb up the ladder on the /SOUTH\.

/ Big Joe is all over the place!  Even in this tournament he    /
/ trying to catch everyone's attention.  This character may be  /
/ harder to beat probably because of his fans.  His fans can    /
/ heal him and even cause damage to you. His attacks will only  /
/ cause 1 HP damage to you but his fans can cause 80+ damage.   /
/ Keep on healing yourself.  I'd recommend a combo for him.  Try/
/ to accumulate as much saved APs as possible.  When you attack /
/ choose the <T> attack and resist the temptation to use the    /
/ deathblow now by pressing <C>.  Watch your AP at the top of   /
/ screen increase.  Heal yourself every now and then.  Wait     /
/ until your AP reach 28.  A Raijin deathblow costs 4 APs so    /
/ if you do a Combo, you can execute 7 Raijins in 1 turn!!!     /
/ After the big combo attack, attack him with single Raijin     /
 / deathblows per turn.                                          /
 /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

After the battle, assuming you won, you'll see Fei's menu again.
Use the items to restore your HP and EP.  When I was playing, I
got a Metal Vest after defeating Big Joe.  So I replaced my
Martial Wear with it add 16 to my defense.

You'll be able to control Bart at this point.  Run /SOUTH\. It
is inevitable that you will run across Aveh guards and corporals
so get yourself ready.  The Head Hunter deathblow of Bart will
eliminate an Aveh guard in one turn.  Heal yourself with Aquasol
  or Hob-Jerky.

Looking for Margie is difficult.  There are many rooms and floors
on the palace. Go to that big door and enter it.  You should find
yourself in a big hall.  Climb up the stairs.  There will be big
door facing the stairs at the top.  Open it.

/ Like Big Joe, the best way to attack this guy is to use a     /
/ combo.  Save up APs for a big combo.  At this point I guess   /
/ you're capable of Senretsu.  Remember that the max unused     /
/ APs which can be collected is 28.  Senretsu consumes 5 APs.   /
/ You can combine different deathblows per combo.  It's up to   /
/ you how much APs you will save up and the deathblows to be    /
/ used.  Scud can only cause 1 HP damage so it's save to keep   /
/ on saving APs.  For the 28 APs I saved, I had 3 Senretsus and /

Back in the Yggdrasil, you'll be in control of Fei and Bart. Get
in through that hole in the floor.  Examine the doll near the door
to the bridge.  Ride on the elevator.  Head to the room where
Maison is.  Sell unusable items such as scales and gold nuggets.
Don't be tempted to buy aquasols from him yet.  Exit the room.  Go
to the 'guest room' (see C in the map I made, found in chapter 9
above). Talk to Margie.  Leave the room and head for the elevator.
Go to the bridge (the room where there's a yellow marking on the
door).  Talk to Sigurd.  Talk to him again.  When you're controlling
the Yggdrasil, go straight, a little bit to the left (stay on the
desert).  There will be a tree and when you go near it, the words
'Road to Nisan' will appear.  Press <X>.

After the sequence, enter Nisan.  After Maison leaves, go /NORTH\,
down the stairs, through the arch (/NORTHWEST\). You'll see another
arch but you can't get through it because someone is blocking it.
Margie will be standing at the side.  Talk to the guy blocking your
way. Talk to Margie.  You'll see Margie in the map.  Go towards her
and talk to her.  After the sequence, you'll see Margie leading you
somewhere.  Follow her (she's on the /NORTHEAST\ portion of the wall,
blocking a door).  Talk to her.  Go up the stairs with her. At the
top of the stairs, talk to her again.  Another sequence follows.
Margie runs away but follow her in the corridor.  She headed /NORTH\
then turned /WEST\.  Talk to her again. A sequence follows.  Follow
Margie.  Now she will be blocking another door.  Talk to her.  On the
top of the stairs, Margie will be standing by the door but she won't
be blocking it.  Go inside the room.  Sequence again.  After, you'll
see Margie blocking the door.  Talk to her.  Go down the stairs and
you'll find yourself in the corridor on the second floor.  Head
/SOUTH\.  Inside the room, turn /SOUTH\.  You'll see Agnes sitting
behind the table.  Talk to her.

Leave the room.  Go /SOUTH\, turn /EAST\, then /NORTH\.  On the
wall, you'll see a door.  Go in it and go downstairs.  Leave the
church (door on /SOUTH\).  From the map, enter Nisan.  Walk a little
bit to the /SOUTH\ until you see the stairs on the /SOUTHWEST\. Go
up then turn [left].  Walk straight ahead.  You'll see Maison.  Talk

room. Go /NORTHWEST\ -- don't go down the stairs.  On the side of the

the house.  A talk sequence follows.

                          **************************

The next day, talk to Bart and tell him you're ready.  After a
sequence, you'll be controlling Citan.  You'll find yourself in the
room where Maison is.  Save the game.  Leave the room the turn to
your [right] and enter the elevator.  Climb up the stairs.  A
 sequence follows.

You will see the where the entrance of the cave.  Follow the orange
gears if you can.  Avoid falling because that will only cause delay.
But don't be frustrated yet, more difficult jumps (if you miss a jump
you'll fall far down) will be coming.  Since you are on your own, it
would be a good idea to escape the fights with the Medusoids.

Inside the cave, you will have to jump up many more ledges.  There
will be lots of enemies inside but the most destructive I guess are
the May Flies.  Choose your battles wisely.  If you think you will
win, go ahead and fight--you need the money and experience.  If
you're low on HP and fuel, then escape from the fights.

At the top is a repair bot.  He will be a very big help to you don't
choose "Can't Trust You" when you talk to him.  Restore your gear
fuel because YOU REALLY NEED TO! Let me tell you about the next
bosses you'll face... They're so tough to beat that it'll make you
want to throw out your Xenogears CDs out of the window.  You will be
battling a group of gears again.  After talking with him, click on
<S>, click on 'Gear' then 'Equip.'  Change your accessories to:
Beam Coat (why? Because you'll be facing the group of gears and one
of them can cause a lot of damage using a beam gun). Upgrade the
Extra Ar to Extra Ar+1.  Then save the game on your memory cube.
Go towards the light.  Walk and a sequence follows.

  from <[email protected]>

For your 1st fight with Vierge, you really need to have AR
  Reparier equipped.

Oh no, another sequence!  After, you'll find yourself back to the
Fixbot standing by the memory cube.  Talk to him.  You may want
to restore the fuel of your gear and buy some character items like
the Aquasol and Rosesol.  Buy some Omegasol, too.  They're cheap
and they will restore your HP and EP to full but they may only
be used when not battling.  Save your game!  You don't want to
fight them again, do you?  Head /NORTHEAST\ and climb to the top.

     o TIPS ON ENEMIES
o Edelweiss -- An enemy with lots of HP. Kill this thing with
o   your <X> attacks and a Reppu deathblow. You'll most likely
o   get a Fang after the battle which you may sell to Maison.

When you get to the topmost part, go to the light and actually, you
have to hit the wall for a sequence to begin.

You're in a familiar place again.  After the sequence, save your
game at the nearby memory cube. Once in control of Bart, climb up
the ladder.  A sequence follows.  Now you'll be in control of Bart.
Exit the room. Another sequence follows.

There is a ship called Keifenzel and to get there you have to pass by
that place where there are lots of gears, gunfires and mines.  Avoid
hitting the enemies for this will only start a fight.  You're going
to face another tough battle and you need to save your HPs.

     o TIPS ON ENEMIES
o Sand Tripper -- One <X> attack will bring this gear down.
o Trooper -- one <X> attack will bring this down, too.
o Gigafoot -- this one can cause a big damage (100+).  Two
o    Reppu deathblows and one <X> will bring this down.

After passing the place with gears and other enemies, a sequence will

Enter through the door.  /NORTH\ in the room, you'll see someone

After the chat, leave the room and head /NORTH\.  Walk as far as

Turn back and return to the bar (house with colorful neon lights).
  A talk sequence follows.

  BACK TO THE DORM
Once you leave the bar, turn [left] (/WEST\) and follow the street

Walk straight ahead and on the next corner, turn /EAST\.  That's
your dorm!  It the house with a ladder near the door.  Enter it.
Another talk sequence.  Citan will give you a choice.  Choose
either. If I were you, I'd choose "Do it now."  A long sequence

Go up the next floor.  Hammer should arrive and talk to you.  Leave
the house through the door on the /EAST\.  Go /SOUTH\, turn /EAST\
at the corner, then /NORTH\ on the following corner, then
/NORTHEAST\. In the world map, you'll see some green triangles.  Go
to the one near a round dome, /EAST\ of where you are.  A sequence
  follows.

Like having to learn how to race chocobos in Final Fantasy 7, you'll
have to learn how to battle in this tournament. The battling system
here is totally different from the previous gear battles.  It
wouldn't hurt if you go to the tutorial and practice modes.

If you are facing the door to the arena, there are two ladies behind
the counter at /NORTH\.  The one on the left will teach you how to
control the gears, the rules, etc.  The second lady will be the
person to approach if you want to start the battle.  On the other
side, at /SOUTH\,  you'll find hammer. At this point, you'll be
receiving lots of money assuming you keep on winning the gear
battles.  Buy lots of Zetasols because you will be needing them in
future battles.  Sell items you won't be needing like eyeball, gold
nugget, and fang.  You won't be able to tune up your gears before
  the first fight.

Talk to Rue.  Let the games begin!  Something will happen then a
sequence follows.  Go to the memory cube and save.

/WEST\.  Once out of the house, turn [left] then keep on walking
(turn in you have to) until you find yourself back in the world map.

Go back to that dome in the map.  Once inside, go to Hammer on the
/SOUTH\.  Tune up your gear. For the engine, he'll seel you
V12-2000 -- buy it!  Now your fuel capacity's increased.  The for
the frame, he'll sell you Welt-04300 -- buy it!  Don't forget the
armor!  Buy the best he has to offer (in this case MS 15).  Lastly,
restore your fuel.  Go to the memory cube and save.

Get out of Hammer's store and talk to the lady on the right. You'll
be fighting a battle.  After the first battle of the day, talk again
to the lady on the right.

  DAY 2 competitors
   = Tin Robo
   = Titan

By this time you should be familiar with the directions to get back
to your dorm and how to get back here to the arena.  Okay for the
last time, I'm giving you the directions to get back to the dorm.
Head /WEST\ to exit the place.  Once in the world map, go the
green triangle /NORTHWEST\ of the map.  Walk /SOUTHWEST\ once
inside.  Turn a little bit to the [left] (/SOUTH\).  Walk straight,
go down the stairs.  Turn [right], then [right] again. Go up the
stairs and before your reach the corner, turn [right] (/EAST\).
Near the door is the ladder.  Go down the stairs on the /NORTH\
  side inside the house.

Save your game in the memory cube.  Rest by going to the space at
the side of the table in your room, /WEST\ of your room.

Go back to the batttling arena.  Have you equipped your gears with
the best equipment you have?  If not, press the <S> button.  Go to
'Gears' then 'Equip'.  Change your Beam Coat into something more
appropriate for the coming battles like Extra Ar+3 and change the
Extra Ar+1 with a higher one.

Now, talk to the lady on the right again.

  Day 3 competitors
  = W-Shaver
  = Musha

After the first battle of the day, talk again to the lady on the
right to enter the day's final battle.

Go back to your dorm.  Save your game then rest.  You'll wake up
and a talk sequence will start.

  THE SEWERS
You'll find yourself at the top of the stairs after the sequence.
Turn [left] (/WEST\) and leave the house.  Remember the ladder by
the door?  Go up!  Once you get to the roof, walk /NORTH\ then
/WEST\.  You'll see a hole in the floor.  Jump in!

From the same side of the sewers, walk /WEST\ and don't forget
to jump over the water coming out from the wall.  Walk /SOUTH\
then /SOUTHEAST\.  Go to the end and open the chest.

     o TIPS ON ENEMIES
o Armor wasp -- For Fei, use his Guided Shot chi while for
o    Citan and Rico, deathblows if they are capable of doing
o    it, otherwise a series of <X> attacks.
     o
o Acid frog -- use deathblows.  This little thing can cause
o    a lot of damage so heal yourself after the battle.  On the
o    next floor below, after you eliminate almost all the frogs,
o    another batch of acid frogs will apear.
     o
o Batrat -- Rico's Death Drive will kill one of them and the
o    other batrats will probably kill you.  These little devils
o    are not worth fighting.  Escape! They will 'confuse' two
o    of your companions and kill the other.  They will kill
o    Rico first because his combo will kill one of them in one
o    turn.  Hopefully you listened to me when I told you to buy
o    Zetasols coz this devils will keep on knocking out your
     o    companions.
     o
o Hobgobs -- not like the hobgobs you encountered in the forest
o    for they have higher HPs.  Fight them anyway coz you'll
o    always get a hob jerky or if you're lukcy, a hob meat.
     o
o Lucre bug -- Use Rico's 'Death Drive' to kill this.
     o
o Mullet -- hard to beat!  Use Fei's Guided Shot while it's still
o    in the water.  When it goes to the floor, use deathblows.
o    They're not worth fighting--I suggest you escape if you
     o    encounter them.
     o
o Rotten Sod -- has lots of HPs and can cause damage, can
o    counter attack, and cause sleep.  I suggest you use a combo
o    (Rico or Fei) on this one.
     o
o Not all battles here in the sewers are 'forced battles'
o so you can escape every now and then.

Walk back, back to the ladder but don't go up.  Near the ladder is
a bridge.  Cross it. Walk to the /WEST\ until you reach the end.
Open the chest and voila!  The Kislev Map!  Walk back and cross the
nearest bridge.  Walk /EAST\, keep on walking until you reach a
hole in the wall with water coming out with green stuff at the
floor.  Examine it.  Walk further /SOUTH\, ignore the bridge and
you'll see blood on the walls and floor.  A short sequence follows.
Walk back to the edge (ignore the bridges).  You'll see a ladder
going down on the edge of the floor.  Go down.

Cross the nearest bridge and turn /NORTH\.  Keep on walking until
you see another bridge.  Cross it again.  Turn /SOUTHEAST\ then
walk.  Keep on walking until you reach a door.  Open it.

Now you're on the other side of the sewers. Press {SELECT} on your
gamepad and examine the map.  At the middle is an encircled part.
You have to go there.  Press {SELECT} again to go back.  Keep on
walking, ignore the first bridge.  Cross the second bridge and
turn [right] or /SOUTHWEST\.  Talk to the little green thing at the
the corner.  This is the encirced part of the map.  After the talk,
retrace your steps but don't cross the bridge.  Keep on walking
until you see another 'hole in the wall with water coming out' with
a green stuff on the floor.  Examine it.

Cross the bridge, go /SOUTH\, keep on walking then cross the first
bridge you see.  Turn /WEST\ and keep on walking.  Cross the bridge
you see. Walk /WEST\ until you reach a murder site.  A sequence
  follows.

Go back, walk /SOUTH\, cross the 1st bridge you see.  Walk either
direction /WEST\ or /EAST\ and cross the first bridge you see.  Head
/EAST\, cross the bridge and walk /SOUTH\, pass by the little green
man, keep on walking ignoring bridges.  You should come across
another murder scene.  Walk back to the little green man, cross the
bridge, turn /EAST\, cross the next bridge, walk /NORTH\ until
you get to a door.  Try opening it.

  GETTING THE KEY
Go back to the little green man (the encircled thing on the map,
remember?).  Talk to him.  Walk /NORTH\, keep on walking, cross the
bridge, turn [left], cross the bridge.  Walk either way (left or
right), then cross the bridge.  Turn [right] then go down the ladder
by the wall. Jump over the sign blocking way.  Cross the bridge
and open the chest by the wall.  You'll get 'Cool Shades.'  Let
Rico wear it--it prevents 'Confusion' caused by Batrats.  There is a
Memory Cube at the /SOUTHEAST\ of the map.  Go there if you want to
save your game.  After saving your game, head /NORTH\ and keep on
walking until you stumble upon a catless rat something.  After the
very short sequence, examine it again.

  OPENING THE DOOR
Go back to the memory cube, cross the bridge near it and walk
/NORTH\.  Keep on walking until you come across another bridge.
Cross it.  Turn [right], keep on walking.  You'll see the door
again.  Open it.  On the other side of the sewers, walk, ignore the
first bridge, cross the second.  Turn [right] and keep on walking,
cross the bridge near the little green man.  Turn [left] then walk
a bit, cross the bridge.  Turn left, keep on walking until you get
back to the locked door again.  Try opening the door again.  Go to
  the chest and open it.

Leave the room and when you pass by the drain with the green stuff,
a sequence follows.  Go back to the little green man.  (You may
want to go back to the memory cube and save your game because you'll
be fighting another boss.  From the green man, walk /NORTH\ until
you come across a drain with green stuff.  Examine it.

o Did Fei exist generations ago when and painted Sophia?
o What is/are Elly's special power(s)?
o Will Elly die?  (Aeris died in Final Fantasy 7)
o Is Rico the Kaiser's son?
