>>> REVISION HISTORY <<<
This section details the illustrious (cough) history of this FAQ. This FAQ
resides at these fine sites:
http://www.gamefaqs.com
http://www.absolute-playstation.com
http://www.game-revolution.com
http://www.polyholiday.com/loudbassoon/videogames
Version 1.00 (08/05/99) – This version is pretty much only move lists for all
wrestlers including finishers. This FAQ is definitely a work in progress, and
will grow substantially after I actually get the game and spend time playing
it. At a later date, I will set up an e-mail account to take messages about
this FAQ.
Version 1.5 (08/16/99) – HUGE update. Corrected some incorrect moves, added
moves, added sections concerning game modes. If you have questions or
comments about this FAQ, corrections that need to be made, or if you have
anything to contribute please send e-mail to
[email protected] and I
will be sure to take a look. I will give you due props for anything you send
me that I don't have. In particular, if you have used a particular wrestler
and have found any moves that result in pin or submissions that I don't have,
please let me know.
Version 1.6 (08/17/99) – Added first actual FAQ's, info about Last Man
Standing matches, added Strategies section, corrected some typographical
errors, and other miscellaneous stuff. I'm still looking for help in
identifying moves that end in pins or submissions.
Version 1.7 (08/18/99) – Added some more FAQ's, changed some more typos and
errors, added list of moves used by none of the characters in the game
[courtesy The Undertaker.]
Version 1.71 (08/19/99) – Added Gameshark codes, other minor changes.
Version 1.8 (08/20/99) – Small changes, mostly cosmetic. Last update for a
while, will be out of town for a week.
Version 1.9 (08/27/99) – Again a small update. Added a few more FAQ's.
Version 2.0 (09/01/99) – Added a few more FAQ, more minor tweaking.
>>> FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS <<<
Where are Test, Mideon, Viscera, The Big Show, The Hardy Boys, Vince McMahon,
Shane McMahon, etc?
=============================================================================
None of these people are in the game, end of story. Nothing but rumors. As
for the McMahons, I've read that they asked not to be included so that none
of the talent would be excluded, but when we've got Head, the Trainer and
Paul Bearer in there as selectable characters, I think they could have made
it. The Hardy Boys really deserved to be included, since they did all the
motion capture of the moves, but they were still pretty new in the WWF at the
time. Test, Mideon, Viscera, and TBS were all too late to be included.
How do I call my run-in partner?
================================
This can only be done when your wrestler's life bar is red and your opponents
life bar is green. Hold L1+L2+R1+R2, then hit select to call in your partner.
[thanks to Game Winners, Richard Donnelly, Brian T]
How do I tag my partner in a tag team match?
============================================
This is a common question, one that I believe is actually addressed in the
rule book that comes with the game. But, here's how you do it for all you
mod-chippers out there. Get to your corner, and hit the L1 button until your
wrestler turns to look at his partner. Hit the O button, and the tag is made.
Now, wasn't that easy?
How do I call my tag partner into the ring?
===========================================
To call him in to help you out without tagging out, hold X then hit R1.
How do I win a cage match?
==========================
You have to climb out of the cage and climb down to the floor. To do this,
your opponent's life meter (or ALL your opponents, if there's more than one)
must be in the red. At this point, you can begin to climb the cage by
standing next to it and hitting L2. Once you reach the top, push down on the
D-pad to begin climbing down. You can also climb the cage when your opponents
are NOT in the red, but you can't climb out. You can do moves from up here,
and they're devastating if they hit, but be careful. Your opponents can shake
the cage to knock you down.
How do I do "from behind tie-up" moves?
=======================================
Another question I'm asked far too often. This one is easily answered by
either using the in-game move list, or any of the fine FAQ out there,
including mine. BUT, since many people are too busy playing to read a FAQ,
I'll explain it. When you have your opponent in the tie-up position, hit Up,
Up, X OR Down, Down, X. If you execute it correctly, your wrestler will step
around the back of the opponent while remaining tied up. It is from here that
the "Behind tie-up" moves must be executed.
>>> GAME MODES <<<
When you first begin a game of WWF Attitude, you are presented with a variety
of game modes to choose from:
** EXHIBITION **
In this mode, you can wrestle a single match of any type that you wish.
The match types are:
Versus – The simplest type of match, and one-on-one battle against another
WWF superstar.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
***NOTE*** In this mode or any other where you choose an opponent, at the
wrestler selection screen hit R1 to have the computer randomly select an
opponent for you, then hit X to confirm its choice.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tag Team – Choose a partner, and take on another team in a versus match.
Defeat one opponent to win.
Tornado – Like a tag team match, except all four wrestlers are permitted in
the ring at the same time. Both opponents must be eliminated to get the win.
1 on 2 – Feeling particularly tough? Go it alone against two opponents.
1 on 3 – Feeling particularly suicidal? Go it alone against three opponents.
Lumberjack – Take on a single opponent, but watch out for the lumberjacks.
Two other wrestlers wait outside the ring to pounce on you or your opponent
if you end up outside the ring. If you get to close to them, they'll even
grab you and drag you outside for a little heart-to-heart talk.
War – This match has four wrestlers in the ring at one time. No allies here,
and you must defeat all three of your opponents to get the win.
Cage – You against another wrestler inside a steel cage. No pinfalls or
submissions, you must climb out of the cage to the floor to win.
Stable Match – Four teams of four wrestlers each start this type of match,
each having one member in the ring. When a wrestler is eliminated (by pinfall
or submission) one of his teammates comes in to replace him. The teams can
tag in and out, and this goes on until only one team is left. Eliminated
wrestlers stay at ringside to serve as lumberjacks.
Survivor Series – Similar to a Stable Match, but there are only two teams.
Tag rules apply, and victory is achieved when all opposing wrestlers have
been eliminated.
Gauntlet – One wrestler faces off against four opponents in succession to
win. Your wrestler does not rejuvenate between matches, leading this to be a
fairly difficult match type.
Tag Team Gauntlet – Same as above, but with tag teams. A bit easier, if you
tag in and out quickly.
Tornado Gauntlet – Gauntlet match with Tornado rules. Yikes!
Triple Threat Match – Three wrestlers in the ring to begin, the winner is the
first to score a pinfall or submission.
Triangle Match – Three wrestlers in the ring to begin. This is like a triple
threat match, but you can allow one opponent to pin the other without losing.
Just make sure you pin the guy left.
Royal Rumble – Begin the match with two wrestlers in the ring. Every thirty
seconds thereafter, another wrestler comes to the ring. The only way to
eliminate someone is to throw them over the top rope to the floor. This goes
on until 29 wrestlers have been eliminated, and only one remains. Due to
hardware limitations, only four wrestlers are permitted in the ring at once.
This is NOT an easy match, since your wrestler is first in the ring.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
***NOTE*** To toss opponents out of the ring, wait until they are standing
and stunned. Get behind them, tie them up, and then hit Left, Left, X. This
will hoist them to your shoulders, then hit X or Square when near the ropes.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Battle Royal – Like a Royal Rumble, but four wrestlers are in the ring to
start, and no additional wrestlers join in.
The match options are:
Hardcore Match – Weapons litter the ring, and falls count anywhere. Whatever
you do, use the microphone at least once.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
***NOTE*** To pick up weapons, stand near one until it flashes, then push L1.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cage Match – A steel cage surrounds the ring, and the only way to win is to
climb out to the floor. This can only be done with ALL opponents life bars in
the red. To climb out, use L2 to climb, and push Down at the top.
Last Man Standing – Hardcore rules, but instead of needing a pin or a
submission to get the win, you must decimate your opponent to the point that
he stays down for ten seconds. [Thanks to Grnfan83]
Falls Count Anywhere – What's this again? Oh, yeah, falls count anywhere.
The win modifiers are:
First Blood – First guy to bleed loses.
Finisher Only – First wrestler to execute his finisher wins. No pinfall or
submission is necessary, merely executing the move is enough.
I Quit – Get your opponent to quit via submission hold, or by knockout if TKO
is enabled.
Iron Man Match – Set a time limit or this will go on forever. The winner is
the wrestler that gets the most falls in the allotted time.
Toughman Match – Only applies to 1 on 2 or 1 on 3 matches. Instead of winning
after pinning one opponent, you need to pin them ALL. Good luck!
2 out of 3 Falls – You need to get two falls to win, rather than only one.
** CAREER MODE **
In this mode, you choose a single wrestler (featured or created) and enter
the WWF as the low man (#20) on the seniority chart. You begin by wrestling
the lesser talent in the WWF in regular house shows. After winning several of
these matches, you begin to move up the ladder (rung by damn rung) toward
your first goal – the WWF European Championship. You eventually will move
from wrestling house shows, to appearing on TV: first, WWF Shotgun, then
Sunday Night Heat, then Raw is War, and eventually pay-per-view events.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
***NOTE*** Normally, winning a match will move you up one spot on the ladder.
However, if you win a match at a PPV, you will move up three spots. Careful,
because if you lose at a PPV, the effect is reversed: you lose three spots.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After you move up the ladder from #20 to #1 contender, you will wrestle a
match for the European title. After you win the European title, you must
defend your title five times. After five successful defenses, you begin as
#15 on the ladder to the Intercontinental Championship. The same pattern
holds here, move up the ladder to the #1 contender's spot, then take on the
champion. Beat him, then defend your belt five times, and it's on to pursue
the ultimate goal, the WWF World Heavyweight Championship. Once you win the
World title, career mode ends, and no defenses are necessary or possible.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
***NOTE*** As you progress through career mode, you do not simply wrestle
versus matches. The computer will randomly determine what sort of match you
will be in using a system of match types and modifiers. For example, you
could wrestle in a tornado type match with a hardcore rules modifier, a war
type match with an "I Quit" modifier, and so on. The possibilities are
virtually endless, and you will be presented with impossible tasks from time
to time. I personally was given a 1-on-3 match with hardcore rules during one
career. Needless to say, I got destroyed.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
** KING OF THE RING **
In this mode, you can enter the King Of The Ring, a single-elimination
tournament. A total of eight WWF superstars enter, but only one can be King
Of The Ring.
** PAY-PER-VIEW **
In this mode, you are, so to speak, given the keys to the kingdom. You can
design your own PPV from the ground up. Customize everything: the colors of
the ring mat, ropes and lights, the name of the event, the types of matches
on the card, and even the superstars involved.
** CREATE WRESTLER **
In this mode, you can create your own wrestler using the much improved
create-a-wrestle function. You can create wrestlers in even more detail than
in War Zone, right down to differing sets of eyes, noses, and mouths, plus
even more clothing items. It's just as entertaining to try and create
existing wrestlers that aren't featured in the game, as it is to create from
scratch.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*** NOTE *** I haven't included any created wrestlers here, since this FAQ is
already quite long. If anyone feels like submitting some to me, go ahead. If
I get enough response, I might set up a separate document for created
wrestlers.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
** UTILITIES **
This is where you go to change the game's options. Most are self-explanatory,
and don't change, except for the "Language" one. After accessing the "beep
mode" cheat (see below) another choice is added there.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
***NOTE*** When you access a cheat, be sure to come to this screen to save
your options! Otherwise, all your hard work will be for naught.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
** CHEAT MENU **
This is the screen you use to monitor which cheats you have accessed, and
whether or not they are activated.
The cheats are unlocked by going through career mode with a single wrestler.
This is a big change from War Zone, which required you to complete challenge
mode with many of the wrestlers to access all the cheats. Even though career
mode is quite long, the amount of matches required to get all cheats is much
less than War Zone.
The cheats (which is a bit of a misnomer; they're not really "cheats" per se)
are accessed as follows:
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
** NOTE ** There has been a bit of debate lately about how exactly the cheats
are accessed. People are saying that they've accessed cheats at different
PPV's and without winning belts, and so on. If anyone has more definitive
information on this, please, pass it along.

>>> CODES, SECRETS AND STRATEGIES <<<
** CODES **
There are no known codes at this time, other than for the Gameshark (see
Gameshark section.)
** SECRETS **
Alternate Costumes – Each superstar has three alternate costumes to go along
with their default one. To access the alternate costumes, you must be at the
wrestler selection screen. Press and hold L1, L2, or R2, then press X to
select your wrestler. I won't list all the alternate costumes here (it's more
fun to be surprised, right?) but I will tell you that Dude Love and Cactus
Jack are still in the game.
** STRATEGIES **
Get to know the moves intimately. Knowledge of the button combos is mandatory
if you are to become a consistent winner at WWF Attitude. In particular,
memorize your wrestler's ready moves right away. These are by far the most
useful moves, and once learned, are the easiest to pull off. Once I got D'Lo
Brown's ready moves down, I was able to defeat Christian in 1:39 on medium
difficulty.
Tie-up moves are best used when the opponent is stunned. I generally avoid
using them altogether, as the ready moves are much easier to pull off, and
generally just as damaging.
To have any chance in 1-on-2 or 1-on-3 matches, you must know all of the
ready moves of your wrestler. To keep from getting your Mr. Ass kicked you
have to give one of your opponents a ready move. While finishing the move you
just gave out (getting back to the ready position) press L1 to change your
attention. Before you are completely back to ready position you must put in
another button combination for a ready move. If you did this right, your
character will already be dishing out another move before any of the three
opponents (or two) can get in a cheap shot. Repeat this being sure to get a
variety of moves in so the crowd doesn't boo. Occasionally, your opponent
will get up from your attack and get in a quick punch but it shouldn't
matter. When it comes to finishing the match that's the hard part. It may be
tough, but you have to get all three (or two) opponents stunned. If their
health is completely gone, the two remaining opponents (or one) will stay
down long enough for you to get the three count on one of them (or for one of
them to submit in an I Quit Match). If you can do this, you will be able to
get a pin or submission without other opponents kicking you off. You can also
use this strategy for any other free for all events but this is the one that
most people have trouble with. [Thanks to The Undertaker]

An Explanation About The Enable All Cheats Code [courtesy The Undertaker]
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*** NOTE *** The enable all cheats code is similar to that of WWF War Zone.
The code brought a lot more options to the cheat menu than what you could
earn. Some of the codes would work, and others did nothing. It is the same
case in WWF Attitude.

===
@ = As far as I know, you can't get the cheats without a Gameshark.
(DW) = These cheats are useless. My guess is the game developers were going
to put these in the game but never did. They were going to have uses for
these cheats and ways to unlock them but never took the time to do so. The
same goes with the Hydrogen War. The only data for Hydrogen War in the game
is that of the icon that scrolls and I don't think there is any data for the
actual match so therefore it isn't in the game. The developers took out the
match and didn't take out the icon.

** COMMON MOVE LIST **
This section lists the moves that are common to each wrestler.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
***NOTE*** All move commands can be inverted.
EXAMPLES Left, Up, T = Right, Up, T
Left, Right, S = Right, Left, S
Up, Up, S = Down, Down, S
Take advantage of the in-game move list as well. It demonstrates this more
clearly. When the situation is right, it will also display the button
combinations for your wrestler's trademark and finishing moves, so this FAQ
is almost pointless. I said, ALMOST.

Kick: S
Tie Up: O
Block: X
Dodge: R1
Dodge: L1
Change Target: L1 (see note below)

Reversal: X
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
***NOTE*** The L1 button will have two functions depending on the type of
match you are involved in. If it's a simple versus match, the L1 button will
dodge to the left. However, if you are in a match involving more than two
wrestlers, L1 will change your wrestler's focus from one opponent to another.
There's no explicit way to tell which opponent he's focused on, you just have
to try and guess which way he's looking. L1 is also the button that allows
you to tag your partner in a tag-team match. Hit L1 until your wrestler is
focused on his partner, get close, then hit O to tag him in.

>>> GLITCHES, BUGS AND OTHER STUFF <<<
1. If you have your opponent in the corner, after he takes enough punishment,
he will fall flat on his face in a maneuver known affectionately to wrestling
fans as the "Flair Flop." Occasionally, if you attempt one of your more
complex corner moves (i.e. Mankind's Tree Of Woe or X-Pac's Bronco Buster)
you will finish the button combo just after he begins to fall. When this
happens, your wrestler will continue to do his move on the air his opponent
was recently occupying. This bug will also occur when your opponent is on the
mat.
2. I've set up an opponent to do D'Lo Brown's quick leg drop, only to have
D'Lo magically end up on the opposite side of the downed opponent. While
facing away from the opponent, D'Lo goes through with his leg drop, landing
on nothing, but the downed wrestler still takes the damage.
3. There are many moves that come up in the create-a-wrestler mode that are
not actually used by any of the wrestlers (featured or hidden) in the game.
Here's the list, courtesy of The Undertaker.
