The question behind this FAQ is why does anyone care about Sydney's
sword, "Czarine"? Well, it seems that the Official Strategy Guide for
Vagrant Story [published by BradyGAMES] had a little tidbit at the very
end of the walkthrough stating that not only was Sydney's sword "the
most powerful single-handed weapon in the game", but that it was
attainable if you defeated him enough times in subsequent playthroughs!
Well, guess what? Sydney does not drop his sword. Ever! The game is
simply not coded to allow him to. Jay Tilton's analysis of the code
proved this point out. Not only that, but it's only a simple Iron Short
Sword. Impressive, no?
BradyGAMES made a mistake, and what is stated about Sydney's sword in
the Official Strategy Guide is wrong. This FAQ was conceived and
written to keep anyone else misinformed about Sydney's sword from
having to go searching for the truth behind it.
So, alright then, I've answered the main question that inspired this
FAQ. What's all of this stuff below then, you ask? Well, while we're
on the subject of Sydney's sword, I thought we might as well take a
look at what Sydney's sword is made out of, where you can get the
various parts that make up his sword, and how you can assemble the
"Czarine" yourself.

3. THE SWORD
=======================================================================
The name "Czarine" is the French variant of the Russian title of
"Czarina", or Empress [from the Latin "Caesar"]. The last Czarina of
Russia was Alexandra Romanov, wife of Czar Nicholas II. They were both
executed along with their four daughters and the Czarevich Alexei on
July 17, 1918. Undoubtedly, the most famous Czarina of them all was
Catherine II, the woman known as "Catherine the Great".
The name of Sydney's sword may give us some hint as to his royal
upbringing. The sword is composed of four parts, all easily attainable
in the game. Before I tell you where, let's take a look at this sword,
and its statistics.

4. THE WORKSHOP
=======================================================================
So, you're asking me, how can I make my own "Czarine"? Well, pretty
easily, it turns out. Once you have gathered the required parts listed
below, it is simply a matter of entering the nearest Workshop and
combining them to make your very own "Czarine".
[Blade] Iron Short Sword
[Grip] Knuckle Guard
[Gem] Braveheart
[Gem] Angel Pearl
Below is a list consisting of the location of enemies and treasure
chests in the game that carry or contain parts for "Czarine". This is
a fairly basic location/enemy/item list.
Some of the information in the list below were taken with permission
from Jay Tilton's most excellent FAQs. If you are looking for more
detailed information than provided here, I suggest you check out his
work, as it is not the purpose of this guide.
