3)INTRODUCTION
--------------
At first glance, Vagrant Story maybe look just like the other RPG game in the
market. But for me whom already owned this game for almost three years, the
beuty of this game is beyond one individual imigination. For you who just
bought this game, congratulation! I'm sure you will not regret it for lossing
couple of dollars buying this game.
One of my favorite aspect in this game is its collection of armor.In common RPG
game, you'll have to buy your character armor. The more it cost the better
armor you'll have. In Vagrant Story, those such things does not exist. In order
to get an armor you'll have to get through the game and obtaining an armor from
a chest that you found trough out your adventure. The other method in obtaining
an armor is to kill an enemy that wear the desired armor. You can see what are
the armor that the enemy is wearing from the status screen in the menu. You
can also see the armor status by succesfuly cast Analyze to the enemy. This is
not an easy thing to do. The enemy will not drop their equipied armor or weapon
as soon as you kill it. It will take some multiple tries. And that what makes
this game beutiful.
To have the best armor in the game, you must collect certain armor and combain
it with another armor in the workshop. There are 16 level of armor in the game.
The last three level (14,15,16) will always be Hoplite, Jazeraint and Dread.
To make the armor ultimate, you have to rise the armor Classes, Affinties and
Type to max value which is 100.
==========================================================
Classes : The armor defesnse againts certain enemy class
Affinties : The armor defense againts certain affinities
Type : The armor defense againts Blunt/Edged/Piercing
==========================================================
Some people said that it's impossible to forge an ultimate armor in your first
playtrough since the limitation of Workshop capibilty available. In your second
playtrough, you can acces GodHands Workshop which allow you to combine any
material with other material. Compare to the workshop available in the first
playtrough, you can only combine Leather,Hagane,Iron,Bronze and Wood in
Junction Point Workshop and Damascus with Silver in Metal Workshop. Both
workshop can be found in Town Centre East. So, is it really impossible to forge
an ultimate armor in the first playtrough? Well, that's why I make this FAQ, to
answer this question that I asked my self a year ago.
===============================================================================
------------------
4)HOLY DREAD ARMOR
------------------
Holy Dread Armor is an identity for the Ultimate Damascus Dread Armor together
with the Ultimate Hagane Dread Shield that forged in the first playtrough and
the Ultimate Damascus Dread Shield that forged in the second playtrough.
As well known, Ultimate armor means the armor is max out in everything; 100 in
all classes, affinties and type. This is not an easy task, especially if you're
in the first playtrough. I would say that this is the hardest side quest in the
game and might be the HIGHEST ACHIEVEMENT in Vagrant Story.
I recommend that you finish the game at least twice before you start this
side-quest. By doing this side-quest you'll stuck in your first playtrough for
a very long time. For those who are new to this game, you're not recommended
to this side-quest as you'll miss a lot of nice things that makes this game
beutiful in your second playtrough. So, for those who are still in the first
playtrough, and if you still want to do this side quest, do it on your own
risk, you've already forewarned.
===============================================================================
------------------------
5)THE BASIC REQUIREMENTS
------------------------
==================
i)Character Status
==================
In your first playtrough, you can see that you're character status
(STR/INT/AGL/HP/MP)is still low. To have a low AGL is highly recommended.
With low AGL, your character can easily be hit by enemy. This will helps a lot
in rising your armor classes and affinities. I recommend you to keep your
character AGL value from the start, which is equal to 100. If you want to
rise the AGL value, don't rise it to high. Try to limit the AGL value under
110.
To have high HP/MP/STR/INT are highly recommended. The higher STR value, the
less damage that you're character will recieve when attacked by normal attacks.
Higher INT value will lessness the damage that your character will recieve
after being hit by magical attacks. With high HP your character will recieve
high HP gradual recovery when you use Surging Balm (Heals 5% of Max HP) on your
character. For your information, Surging Balm is really helpful in rising your
armor classes and affinities. You can learn this magic by using the Grimorie
Vie that you can get from a chest in Abandoned Mines B2/Room:Acolyte's Burial
Vault.
I've listed the places and the enemy, where you can rise your HP/MP/STR/INT
value in the first playtrough. Take priority to rise your character STR/HP
value.
======================================
Elixirs and Wines that rises STR value
======================================
---------------
ELixir Of Kings
---------------
-Human Dummy (Wine Cellar/Room:Worker's Breakroom) *(8)Drop rate.
-Undead Dummy (Catacombs/Room:Hall of Sworn Revenge) *(8)Drop rate.
--------------------
Valens (recommended)
--------------------
-Mimic (Abandoned Mines B1/Room:Miner's Resting Hall) *(8)Drop rate.
=====================================
Elixirs and Wines that rises HP value
=====================================
----------------
Elixir Of Queens
----------------
-Minotaur Zombie(*recommended)(Wine Cellar/Room:The Gallows) *(13)Drop rate.
-Human Dummy (Wine Cellar/Room:Blackmarket Of Wines) *(13)Drop rate.
-Beast Dummy (Abandoned Mines B1/Room:The Dark Tunnel) *(13)Drop rate.
--------
Audentia
--------
-Mimic (*very rare)(Abandoned Mines B1/Room:Rust In Peace) *(3)Drop rate.
-Mimic (Abandoned Mines B2/Room:Suicidal Desires) *(8)Drop rate.
-Slime (Sanctum/Room:The Academia Corridor) *(8)Drop rate.
*Enter the room with less than 49HP.
======================================
Elixirs and Wines that rises INT value
======================================
---------------
Elixir Of Sages
---------------
-Evil Dummy (Town Center East/Room:Gharmes Walk) *(13)Drop rate.
-------------------
Prudens (Very rare)
-------------------
-Mimic (Abandoned Mines B1/Room:Everwant Passage) *(3)Drop rate.
=====================================
Elixirs and Wines that rises MP value
=====================================
---------------
Elixir Of Mages
---------------
-Phantom Dummy (City Walls North/Room:From Boy To Hero) *(8)Drop rate.
------------------
Virtus (Very rare)
------------------
-Mimic (Abandoned Mines B2/Room:Hidden Resources) *(3)Drop rate.
You might want to get the Elixir Of Queens from the Minotaur Zombie and Valens
from the Mimic as much as possible before you start this side-quest. I suugest
that you rise your HP to 350 and STR to 130. I've done some personal testing;
If you used all your Elixirs and Wines efficiently from the start of the game,
you can max your character status to:
--------------------------
HP : more than 280
MP : More than 60
STR value : more than 110
INT value : more than 110
--------------------------
Using efficiently means; save the game before using the Elixirs or Wines. If
you didn't get 4 (max value that you can get) reset, then start again.
======================
ii)Character Equipment
======================
Besides having the recommended status, I also suggest that you make an Ultimate
Damascus Weapon for your character, Hagane Jazeraint/Dread Shield, full set of
Damascus armor or full set of Hagane Fluted Armor that you obtained at Great
Cathedral.
To have those equipment, it can really help you in getting the pieces of armor
needed. If your weapon is stronger, you can kill the enemy faster. If you're
armor and shield is better, your character will have a slow death.
========================
iii)Character Appearence
========================
Below is recommended appearence for your character. You didn't have to actually
follow this. But it would be better if you make a better appearence for your
character.
HP : 350
MP : 60
STR : 130
INT : 115
AGL : 100
Ultimate Damascus Wakizashi.
Hagane Jazeraint/Dread Shield.
Full Set Of Damascus armor /Full Set Of Hagane Fluted Armor.
I strongly advice you to keep your character AGL value as low as possible. The
original value (100) is recommended. If you did rise your character AGL a
little bit to high (e.g 120) you can get your character Cursed. But I don't
recommend it, since your character STR and INT value will drop too.
===============================================================================
-------------------------
5)THE ARMOR THAT YOU NEED
-------------------------
I've listed down the total count of armor that you'll need to make a full set
of Ultimate Damascus Dread Armor in the first playtrough.
======================================
i)Full Set Of Damascus Dread Armor
======================================
Type Stats Total
--------------------------------------
(D)Vembrace 0/5/10 x152
(D)Gauntlet 7/4/4 x152
(D)Rodanche 8/6/0 x152
(S)Armet 4/6/4 x144
(D)Freiturnier 7/7/7 x232
(S)Tilt Glove 12/12/12 x64
--------------------------------------
Don't be surprised to see the total count, I've already told you that this is
not an easy task. But don't give up yet, the good news is all the pieces of
armor that you'll need are quite easy to get, except for the (D)Freiturnier.
==========================
ii)Places To Get The Armor
==========================
------------------------------
(D)Vembrace x2 *(8)Drop rate
(D)Gauntlet x1 *(8)Drop rate
------------------------------
Map : City Walls North
Room : Be For Battle Prepared
There's three Blood Lizard here if you enter the room with HP more than 220.
Two Blood Lizard carries the (D)Vembrace and the remaining Blood Lizard carries
the (D)Gauntlet. I'm sure you noticed that there's a door to a new area nearby
which allow the enemy to respawn each time you use the door. The door will lead
you to Rue Lejour.
--------------------------------
(D)Rodanche x1 *(13)Drop rate
(S)Armet x1 *(13)Drop rate
(S)Tilt GLove x1 *(13)Drop rate
--------------------------------
Map : Town Centre East
Place : Rue Crimnade And Shasras Hill Park.
There's three Crimson Blades in Rue Crimnade. Two of them carries the (S)Armet
and (D)Rodanche. As the previous room, this area is also have a door to a new
area nearby. The first door is at Kesch Bridge and the other one is at
Shasras Hill Park which you can get the (S)Tilt Glove from the Crimson Blades
that's available there. So, you might want to use the door at Shasras Hill Park
often than the door at Kesch Bridge.
--------------------------------
(D)Freiturnier x1 *(8)Drop rate
--------------------------------
Map : Undercity West
Room : Beggars Of The Mouthtrap (After you obtained the Silver Key)
If your character enter this room with less/or 200 HP, you'll encounter the
ONLY Lich that carry the valuable (D)Freiturnier in the first playtrough.To
get the (D)Freiturnier a little bit faster, start from the Beggars of the
Mouthharp, go back to the Sunless Way and go back using the same route to
Beggars Of The Mouthtrap. This way, you'll only fight the Lich alone. This will
take a while so be sure to have a lot of patient. Remember that you'll only
encounter this Lich if your character has less/or 200HP when you enter
the room. Watch out for it's magic attacks. If your character have a
very low HP and no shield equipied, you're character will die instantly if
being hit by the enemy magic attacks (Gaea Strike Level 2) It happens to me
once, and it's doesn't feel really good to see the 'golden words' in the
screen.
============================================================
iii)Other Alternative to get the (D)Gauntlet and (D)Vembrace
============================================================
------------------------------
(D)Vembrace x1 *(8)Drop rate
(D)Gauntlet x1 *(8)Drop rate
------------------------------
Map : City Walls North
Room : From Boy To Hero
Before you enter the Limestone Quarry, there's three Blood Lizards available
in this room. Two of them carries the (D)Gauntlet and (D)Vembrace. Take note
that you still can't get the (D)Freiturnier at this point.You might want to get
the (D)Gauntlet or (D)Vembrace as much as posibble in here as this room is only
one door to a new area. Remember, as soon as you entered the second door in
Limestone Quarry which you can open after the fight with Tieger and Neesa, the
Blood Lizards will not be here anymore.
===============================================================================
-----------------------------------
7)CLASSES AND AFFINITIES PROPERTIES
-----------------------------------
You'll do this process in certain stage of the Holy Dread Combination. So, I
think it would be better if I tell you about this section earlier, before you
end up rising your armor classes and affinities point by using the Dread
Damascus Armor. Because that method will not work, ever.
In your first playtrough, you'll find a limited places to rise your armors
classes and affinities point compare to in your second playtrough. I've done
my best to find the best places that you can rise your armor classes/affinities
point in the first playtrough. I've listed down all the recommended places.
Before that I want you to remember the rule of classes and affinties so that
you know why you can't rise all the classes and affinties in a single armor.
==================================
i)The Rule Of Classes / Affinities
==================================
*e.g:If you try to rise your Evil class point, the point for Beast and Human
might/will fall.
-----------------------------
Rise Fall |
-----------------------------|
| |
Evil | Beast/Human |
Human | Beast/Undead |
Undead | Dragon/Phantom |
Phantom | Dragon/Evil |
Beast | Phantom/Undead |
Dragon | Evil/Human |
| |
-----------------------------
*e.g:If you try to increase your Air affinities point, your Earth affinites
point will fall. So basicly, you can't mix all the affinities in single armor.
You must have at least two armor to mix the affinities.
*e.g:Single armor, maxed with Air, continue to max out the Water affinities.
--------------------
Opposite Affinities |
--------------------|
| |
Air | Earth |
Water | Fire |

===============================
iii)Tips On *Recommended places
===============================
-----------
Air / Human
-----------
-Orc Leader #Andoned Mines B2 - The Miner's End.
Kill the two orc first. You don't need to silence this enemy. And if you have
a high HP, you don't need to cast yourself Surging Balm. Keep your eyes on
it's color attack. If it's turn red, quickly get out from the room, heal
(if you didn't use Surging Balm) and enter back. It's color attack will back
to green, represent as Air Affinities. If you think Herkales magic is a
treat, silence it. If you did cast Surging Balm, the enemy might cancel it.
----------------
Beast / Darkness
----------------
-Slimes #Abandoned Mines B2 - The Treaty Room.
Kill the slime that have Poison Sneeze attack. Live the two slimes that have
Acid Snooze attack. Cast yourself Surging Balm. Get above the boxes in the
corner of the room to low their risk if you see them miss their attack often.
Water / Beast
-------------
-Ichthious #Snowfly Forest - The Giving Trees.
Cast Stun Cloud on both enemy. This will prevent them from using normal attack.
This way they will always attack your character with their special attack,
Spiral Shell which have Water Affinities. If you think their risk is already
high, exit the place and enter again. This will not cancel the paralyis magic
that you casted on them (if it's not wear out before you leave the place)
Apparently the paralyis magic will last long enough as the enemy will attack
you very often.
-------------
Earth / Human
-------------
-Orc #Abandoned Mines B2 - The Miner's End.
Kill the other Orc but leave the Orc Leader. The Orc Leader will not attack
you. Only the Orc with the Great Sword will. The Orc that will attack you
have an Earth Affinities attacks. Keep your eyes on the color attack.
If it's turn red, quickly exit the room then enter again. You may want to cast
Surging Balm, but it will waste of MP since you have to cast it again after
you enter again.
------------
Evil / Light
------------
-Quicksilver #Undercity West.
You must silence this enemy.You also need to keep on eye on it's color attack.
As usual exit than enter again.
------------------
Phantom / Phsyical
------------------
-Wraith #Iron Maiden B1 - The Cauldron.
Silence those two Wraith. Kill the Evil first. Cast Surging Balm. You don't
have to monitor the progress.
-------------
Fire / Dragon
-------------
-Dragon #Time Trial.
this is the best place that you can rise your Dragon class and Fire Affinities.
The attack will hits all body part. Cast Surging Balm on your character.
You don't need to always monitor the progress.
================================================
iv)Other Alternative In Rising Certain Affinties
================================================
------------
i)Method (1)
------------
Using your weapon enchanter magic. First go to places where there's two/three
enemy with weapons. Then cast your weapon enchanter magic on them. And let
them attack your character.
-------------
ii)Method (2)
-------------
Using your Warlock Magic. Cast it on your character. Do it near a Heal trap.
Might be faster than the method above. Use Level 1 magic.
This two method can be used for rising Air, Fire, Water and Earth affinties by
using the magic that represents those affinties.
---------------------------------
Magic Affinties
---------------------------------
Avalanche Water
Flame Sphere Fire
Gaea Strike Earth
Thunderbust Air
========================
v)Places To Rise Classes
========================
This is basically self expletory. I've listed down the best places that I can
think of in rising the armor classes points.
------
Human
------
-3xCrimson Blade #Town Center South - Rue Aliano
-3xCrimson Blades #Town Center East - Kesch Bridge
------
Beast
------
-5xBat #Sanctum - Priests' Confinement
-2xHellhound #Abandoned Mines B1 - The Battle's Beginning
------
Undead
------
-3xSkeleton #Catacombs - Hall of Dying Hope
-2xDark Skeleton #Iron Maiden B1 - The Whirligig
------
Dragon
------
-Dragon #Time Trial *The attack hits all part
-------
Phantom
-------
-Wraith #Iron Maiden B1 - The Cauldron *Need to be silenced.
-----
Evil
-----
-Quicksilver #Undercity East - Almost every room *Need to be silenced.
You can be in Battle Mode or Normal Mode while doing the rising classes
and affinties progress, depends on the enemy that you'll go for. Actually,
almost all the enemy that available is strong enough to hurt your character
very badly. So, I strongly recommended that you do this process in Battle
Mode WITH Shield equipied. With a shield equipied, it will really lessness
the damage that you're characther will recieve(Very Much). Take note that your
shield classes and affinties will also rise along with armor. In fact, the
shield points will rise faster. So, you might want to make yourself an Ultimate
Hagane Dread Shield together with the Ultimate Damascus Dread Armor.
===============================================================================
------------------------------
8)ULTIMATE HAGANE DREAD SHIELD
------------------------------
The shield is another aspect that I like Vagrant Story. Same as the armor, you
must slain certain enemies to get certain shield. You can actually see the
shield that you can get from the enemy that carries it.
Again, this is not as easy as it look, the good news is, you don't have to collect
hundreads of shield. There'll be four primary pieces of shield that you'll
need. I've listed down the shields and it stats and where you can get it.
=============================
i)The Shield That You'll Need

===============================================================================
------------------
8)COMBINATION RATE
------------------
To make an ultimate armor, you have to rise your armor classes and affinites by
getting hit by an enemy. Diferent from the type :Blunt/ Edged/Piercing. To rise
this, you must do a multiple combination with the armor with another one. How
the combination works?
80% combbination rate - e.g 10/10/10 + 10/10/10 = 16/16/16
60% combination rate - e.g 40/0/0 + 0/40/0 = 24/24/0
40% combination rate - e.g 12/0/0 + 0/9/6 = 4/3/2
80% applies when the two armors are with the same material and with fairly/
same stats.
60% applies when the two armors comes with diferent material/same material but
with fairly/same stats or diferent stats.
40% applies when the two armors come with diferent material and absolutely
diferent stats.
So, basicly, in combination process, your goal is to combine two armors with
the same/fairly stats of type. The best method that I can find is combining the
four last pieces to reach 100/100/100. Which the four last pieces MUST have a
minimum 40/40/40 of stats. The four last combination is stated below so that
you're sure what are you doing when making combination on your own. As you know
the four last pieces in Dread combination is the Hoplite.
#Base on 80% combination rate.
Hoplite 40/40/40 + Hoplte 40/4040 = Jazeraint 64/64/64
Hoplite 40/40/40 + Hoplite 40/40/40 = Jazeraint 64/64/64
Jazeraint 64/64/64 + Jazeraint 64/64/64 = Dread 100/100/100

9)THE COMBINATION PROCESS
--------------------------
I've done my very best to show you how the combination process is. I've done so
many serious test that varify the results. You might get a diferent results,
but one thing that I promise you, the stats that you'll get will be higher than
stated here. So you don't have to worry if you suddenly have a diferent result
in the combination process. If any of you `did' found a diferent results,
please e-mail me a.s.a.p so that I can update or do a correction. I also done
my best to minimize the total count pieces of armor that needed in the
combination process.
The combination table that will be shown shows the combination process of the
last four pieces in the Holy Dread, which is the Hoplite. The Hoplite have
the minimum value of type, which if you combine all of them, you'll get a
100/100/100 value as the final result. So basicly, you'll need to do the
process shown here four times to succesfuly forged Holy Dread. Except for the
Holy Dread Glove, which you have to do it eight times.
Take not that, I've done all I that I can by doing multiple test to minimize
the count of piecies of armor needed in the whole process.
Pieces 1 will represent as slot 1 and Pieces 2 represent slot 2. But if you
`did' find diferent combination result, try to inverse the combination slot.

10)ULTIMATE DAMASCUS DREAD SHIELD
---------------------------------
Some people argue that it's imposible to make an Ultimate Damascus Dread Shield
on the second playtrough, since you only have two Damascus Circle Shield and
one Damascus Casserole Shield. To make the situation harder, you can only get
Damascus Shield by combining it with a Wood Shield. Then again, this FAQ proven
that it's not imposible to make an Ultimate Damascus Dread Shield in the second
playtrough but it will not be that easy.
To make an Ultimate Damascus Dread Shield is so hard. Maybe this is the hardest
Damascus equipment to make. Hundreads of wood shield is needed in the process.
I must say that I haven't run all the combination process. But some SERIOUS
test has been done to verify the results.
I've listed down the total count of shield that you'll need and what kind of
shield that you'll need. I also listed the places where you can get the
required shield.

11)DAMASCUS DREAD SHIELD COMBINATION
------------------------------------
As I said before, I haven't run all the process yet. But some SERIOUS test has
been done. I've done my very best to minimize the total count shield needed,
especially in (D)Hoplite Shield combination.
Again, you 'might' find a diferent result from the result stated here. But one
thing for sure, you'll get a higher result than the results here. If some of
you 'did' found a diferent result, please send an e-mail to me a.s.a.p so that
I can do the correction.
Pieces 1 represent as Slot 1 and Pieces 2 represent as Slot 2. Try to inverse
the combination if you 'did' found diferent result in shield combination.
There'll be TWO combination table. The first one is the Damascus Hoplite Shield
and the second table is Wood Hoplite Shield. So, obviously, you'll need to do
the process twice for each combination table.

12)RISING THE ARMOR/SHIELD CLASSES AND AFFINTIES
------------------------------------------------
You can choose freely, when/which stage that you will rise your armor stats,
but always remember the rule of classes and affinities. I recommended that you
rise the affinities and classes in seperated armor to make sure there's no
conflict stats occur. It's really important to follow which classes/affinties
to rise first. This plan also apllied to the Ultimate Hagane Shield Dread
and Ultimate Damascus Dread Shield.
1st Pieces = Rise : Evil/Light to 100 then Human/Earth to 100
(D)Hoplite Glove
(D)Hoplite Glove
(D)Hoplite Armor
(D)Hoplite Helm
(D)Hoplite Leggings
2nd Pieces = Rise : Dragon/Fire to 100 then Beast/Darkness to 100
(D)Hoplite Glove
(D)Hoplite Glove
(D)Hoplite Armor
(D)Hoplite Helm
(D)Hoplite Leggings
3rd Pieces = Rise : Phantom/Phsyical to 100 then Undead to 100
(D)Hoplite Glove
(D)Hoplite Glove
(D)Hoplite Armor
(D)Hoplite Helm
(D)Hoplite Leggings
4th Pieces = Rise : Water to 100 then Air to 100
(D)Hoplite Glove
(D)Hoplite Glove
(D)Hoplite Armor
(D)Hoplite Helm
(D)Hoplite Leggings
I've tested all the rising method, and it shows no conflict. But if you think
that this is a little bit to hard you can choose any stages that fits you.
Just remember the rule of classes and affinties. And do not use the stages
after Hoplite.

Always save your game.
Be sure to have a lot of patient. Don't expect to finish this side quest within
a week. Enjoy yourself while racking armor, practice your chain and try to
obtain all the break arts. If you're bored, stop. Don't force yourself to
continue.
If you have a problem regarding this game, you are always welcome to visit the
Vagrant Story Message Board Community at www.GameFAQs.com.
You may send an e-mail to me if you have a comment regarding this FAQ and if
you really 'did' found a diferent results. Silly question will be ignored.
Put "Holy Dread" as subject.
Again, for those who are new to this game are not recommended to do this side
quest. Go enjoy yourself on your second playtorugh. There's so many nice
things in the second playtrough that makes this game beutiful. This side
