01.) INTRODUCTION G0100
===============================================================================
Welcome to 'The Last Report' for the Playstation, released by Microids in 1998.
The game was only released in Europe and Japan, with a PC version also
available in Europe under the title 'Evidence: The Last Report'. The game
originates from France but has a fully localized English option.
This guide was written for the Playstation version, but besides the obvious
control differences it should be identical to the PC release. Hence you can
use this guide perfectly fine when playing on the PC, just remember you are
reading something created with the cosole game in mind.
Suggestions, comments or errors - tell me about it. Enjoy!

There are many paths through the game that end up with the same result, but you
really do not want to take them. For example, ending up at the station in an
interrogating is not advisable as you might say the wrong thing and be thrown
in jail, or even arrested (i.e. Game Over). I suggest you follow this
walkthrough if you want to get somewhere with results. Doing badly does not
necessarily mean the game will end badly too, just that you risk of doing so.
===============================================================================
03.) WALKTHROUGH G0300
===============================================================================
Dan's Apartment Building:
`````````````````````````
Once the introduction is over the phone will ring. It will only ring once but
it is actually still ringing just that you do not hear it. If you are quick
enough you can pick up the phone and talk to Sara and then decide what you want
to say, but you can also ignore it. Optionally you can even listen to your
messages with some being from Sara about the same topic. If you just sit around
some more then the phone will eventually ring again.
Look at the tea table with the phone and grab the key as well as the digital
pad containing the phone numbers you need. Sit at the computer desk and look
into the drawer of this desk. Take the Channel Z ID badge and the money.
Optionally you can browse your computer, but there is not much to do that is
required later. You will never come back to your apartment in this walkthrough
so if you want to check out this PC then do it now.
Time to leave the apartment. Walk to your car and open the glove compartment to
find a lamp (torch) and camera. Select the key from your inventory and use the
tool icon on the ignition to start the car. This only has to be done once for
operating the car, the other times you simply have to use the tool icon to
drive off. Pick Sarah's building in the center to drive there.
Sarah's Apartment Building:
```````````````````````````
Enter the building only to be stopped by a police officer.
* OK! See you around officer... (all other answers will most likely result in
a trip to the station - not good!)
Outside again, enter the back of the cleaning van near the entrance.
* Hi... Can I bother you for a minute...
* Yeah... I need to get hold of some clothes... Just like yours...
* $100... OK... I won't be long...
You will automatically enter the apartment.
Look into the desk drawer to the right of where you are standing. It contains a
paper with some phone numbers. Note Sarah's phone number. If you know it ends
with 4040 already (like reading this walkthrough) then you can omit doing this
task.
The first real task then the stairs up to the bedroom. Pick up the ring on the
floor to the left of the desk. Look at the books at the head of the bed and
look at the second from the left (Encyclopedia F-J). Input the code '4040' and
you will hear a confirmation that it is correct. Return to the lower floor and
check out the painting near the kitchen. Note the word written in the corner.
Using the password to access Sarah's computer in the main area (it might be
random, mine was 'Duqui'), open the Trash icon and read the '3. Comments'. This
adds the Lake Hospital the map. You can read the rest of the trash documents
too, and clean out the recycle bin. To leave the apartment go to the left of
the kitchen.
Lake Hospital:
``````````````
Two things you want to know before starting this area. First, the only way in
is through the back of the van that arrives once in a while. These are infinite
so do not worry about getting stuck. Second, waiting around in certain areas in
the hospital will security find you and kick you out.
Shortly after arriving you will notice a van pull up at the parking garage
gate. This is the van I was talking about earlier. Climb into the back to end
up in the garage. Walk straight ahead to an exit door. Open this door but do
not open it again. Instead use the Eye icon to peek through to the reception
desk. Take the coat off the hook and quickly walk forward to the corridor past
the entrance door (you can also read the register to know where you want to go,
but I will tell you all this). This corridor is a little confusing, you only
have one position but can look both ways. The asterix (*) is your position
whereas the room numbers and the lab are in the distances as the chart shows.
Reception
It is vital that you select the correct rooms as going the wrong places might
result in you getting discovered the shot by the security. (One of these deaths
is actually rather cold yet "cool" to check out.)
Enter room no.8 in the distance, make sure you select the correct one. There is
a note underneath the bed. This is actually all you came here for, which opens
up the Sirius bar on the map, but escaping is another matter.
Back in the corridor, turn around to see room no.2 and enter it. Push the call
button next to the patient and walk through the door besides the button, not
the one leading to the corridor. When you get through, the nurse from the lab
will come through the main door (you can actually go talk to her in the lab
first, but this is not advised for obvious reasons). Exit to the main corridor
and enter the lab. Make sure you get the correct room here, as you may end up
at the elevator too early and see this death I was talking about earlier.
Inside the lab, go forward to the board with the keys and grab the small yellow
one in the bottom right.
Return to the corridor only to be found by the security guard. This time you
can actually perform an action instead of him just taking you out (literally
rather than earlier just figuratively) to arrive at the elevator. Using the
golden key on the panel is automatic, just call the elevator. This will lead
you to the basement. Ignore the door and instead walk around the corner to find
some air ducts. The right one can be shot with the gun you got from the
security guard, but it only leads you back to room 8 if you did not visit there
earlier to grab the note. Instead take the left duct to arrive outside the
hospital and find your car. Drive to the Sirius Bar.
Docks: (Sirius Bar)
``````
Enter the bar itself and talk to the barmaid.
*Whisky please...
*True, this is a great bar... and so's the barmaid, by the way...
*Oh... Don't tell me no-one's ever told you that before?
*...... But... I'd like to ask you something... Have you ever seen these objects
before...
Open the inventory and select the ring you found in Sara's apartment, then use
it with the barmaid.
*Oh, who's that?
*And where can I find this Strinsky?
Exit the bar, drive to somewhere (your apartment block) and then back here to
re-enter the bar.
*Whisky please...
*Yeah, have you seen Strinsky? (If this option doesn't come up you will have to
spend more time running around, try to talk to the barmaid again as before and
coming back later to find Strinsky.)
*Thanks... Back in a minute... I'm going to see dear old Mr. Strinsky...
Go into the pool area.
*Hey, calm down! I've come to shoot some pool with you... They tell me you're
an ace player...
*OK... Shall we start?
Instead of playing pool you have to just his as many sides as you can before
potting the white. The best shot is aiming two angels to the right of the
default cue position and using the max power as represented by the cue balls on
the left. This should bounce off enough cushions and drop into the center
pocket in the end. You win $1000 and the game continues by itself if you just
wait.
Station:
````````
Walk up to the ticket counter on the left and tell the guy
*Yes... Thanks...
*No... Thanks... Good-bye...
Go to the lockers on the right of the cafe. Check out locker number 12 and use
the combination '991' to open it. Take the message and read it. Descend down to
the subway via the middle of the station. It is not easy to spot, but do not
leave the station by mistake or you get arrested by the police. After the
scenes you should drive to the hospital.
Lake Hospital:
``````````````
Use the duct to climb down into the basement. Backstep to the armored door and
use the pad next to it. The code from the message is '1124' (one, one, two, add
together = 4). There is no confirmation about this, just input the code and use
the door on the right while in the same view. The alarm will sound but nobody
cares. I do not think the guard will ever come down here as I have waited for a
long time once. Nevertheless, take some white powder from the box in the middle
of the room (use the take command!) and combine the camera with the bags of
other stuff to make some evidence picture. Make sure that worked by checking
your inventory for the Polaroid. Return outside via the duct and walk away from
the hospital as if you were going to your car.
Station:
````````
Walk up the phone, on the left of the cafe. Use it to call Rugler (note the
scene happening at the same time).
*Hi Peter... It's Dan... Listen... Can I see you right away...
*Fairly, yes... I've got something to show you...
*I've found a drugs laboratory at Lake Hospital...
Check locker number 12 once more (remember the code is '991'). Take the video
tape.
Restaurant:
```````````
You automatically talk to Peter.
*Peter... This is to repay you for all the leads you've given me... I've
uncovered a drugs laboratory at Lake Hospital... I've got proof...
Open the inventory and give the white powder to him.
Station:
````````
Use the phone to call Haywood.
*Hey Michael! Got some spare time to view a cassette at Channel Z?
*I'll be brief... With that video, I'll find out who's responsible for the
murders of Sarah and Alec...
Ride the subway to Channel Z which is now on the map.
Channel Z:
``````````
Insert the tape in the slot. Switch on all three monitors with their respective
buttons. Play the video back until around the time the focus on the football
player ends. Use frame steps until you notice a message on the screen. Use the
switch in the middle to move the playback to the right monitor (D<->E). The
next frame will have the end of this message. When both monitors display the
two parts, use the MX button to have the center monitor display the entire
message. There is no confirmation that you have done it. Take the tape out and
leave.
Station:
````````
Walk up the phone to call Rugler.
Docks:
``````
Walk north and approach the small hut.
*Are you the person I'm supposed to see about renting a boat?
*I'd like to rent one of your boats...
*OK... Take it...
You will then have to answer some trivia questions about sailing.
Q: In navigation, what is a sextant used for?
A: That gives the latitude...
Q: Is port left or right?
A: To the left...
Q: On a 18th century battle ship, what was the gasket?

A: That's the sailing ship...
Step away from the rental hut and enter the warehouse in the distance. After
the scene, combine the gun with the shadow of the person trying to arrest you.
Exit the warehouse and watch the scene to end the game.

XX.) FAQ GYY00
===============================================================================
Q: Can you die in this game?
A: The words "Game Over" are seen all over this game, you will get them more
often than desired even when playing with a walkthrough.
Q: Can you get stuck in the game?
A: You can miss out on items, yes. The game does not tell you this
unfortunately.
Q: Are there timed events?
A: Many things move along if you just stand around, but there are no timed
puzzles or anything like that. Some timed events re-occur to give you more
chances.
Q: This game seems rather short.
A: It is not very long if you follow a guide, but there i a lot of walking
around involved if you do not. The game disk is actually full of video clips
you doing that, with 3D rendering made for each trip in all possible
combinations. The game tries to be movie-like and have an ambience, even
having something going on when just you walk to your car. There are tons of
alternative (i.e. bad) paths you can take.
Q: Can I open the armored door in the basement of Lake Hospital without getting
the message with the code?
A: I tried once but as I did not get a confirmation I thought it was not
working, but later I figured out that there is no beep or anything to show
that the door is unlocked. Might be worth a try on the next playthrough to
speed things up, but I would say they prevent you from going in there for the
time being.
Q: Is there any glitch in the game?
A: There is one that I know of. [Lyndon Fredericks] told me about this in an
email. After the introduction when you find yourself in your apartment,
use the lips icon on the door until you eventually warp to another location.
Lyndon spoke of warping to the exit but I warped to the hospital elevator,
maybe there are different places for different pixel. It is kind of tricky
to get this unlocked, just keep on moving the cursor to different positions
and eventually this should work. Make sure the lips icon is active (red).
