III. Frequently Asked Question (FAQ)
**************
Q. Where can I find some really neat codes for TENCHU: STEALTH ASSASSINS?
A.
http://gamesages.com, here at GameFAQs, pretty much any where with codes
for games.
**************
Q. Is there any secret characters you can play as?
A. None are reported so far. Only playable characters are Rikimaru and Ayame.
If you really need to find out, I suggest playing around with the de-bug code.
**************
Q. How do perform the de-bug code?
A. Pause the game and hold L1+R2, then press UP, TRIANGLE, DOWN X, LEFT SQUARE,
RIGHT CIRCLE. Then, release L1+R2, and press L1, R1, L2, R2. Wait a few
seconds, and then hit START, and followed by L2+R2.
**************
Q. I keep on falling down big crevices... how do I jump over them?
A. It's a long jump; Forward Forward+X.
**************
Still taking any questions.

IV. Walkthrough Intro
(Note before Starting: Rikimaru's and Ayame's games are pretty much identical;
except, of course, with the different combos you can do.)
Some notes before starting:
It is suggested that you do not equip items the first time you play through an
unfamiliar level. Have the first time be a time to get familiar with the level.
Finding good hiding spots; learning enemy locations; and other such things to
help you gain a Grand Master level is key.
This Walkthrough, though short and printer-friendly, is not meant for people
who desire a Grand Master rating. It is suggested you read another persons
Walkthrough if you wish to make haste with these missions.

V. Rikimaru and Ayame Walkthrough:
_____________________________________
|. .|\
|Mission 1: PUNISH THE EVIL MERCHANT||>
__________________________________.|/
You start out in a wide alley. Look up, and you'll see rooftops. Grapple
yourself up on the closest one. When you are on top of the house, drive
yourself from rooftop to rooftop, while being quiet and stealthy at the same
time. Turn right at the next roof-intersection. On the other side of this roof,
is a window that will either have guard in it, or kitty. Dispose of the enemy,
if any, and go down into the hole. You will find Echigo-ya trying to get some
with some chick. He'll call his French bastard on you, and you will start a
fight.
In this fight, he is quick, but is slow on recovery. Constantly keep him
stumbling with combos, and immediately block once he starts taking swipes at
you. He'll be gone in no time. But, here are some things to be aware of: Try to
have the battle inside of the building, and try not to take it outside the door
where there are many enemies. This will bring down your final grade. Once
defeated, immediately grapple up through the hole you cam down in to avoid
enemy confrontations.
Once you grapple up through the hole, make your way around the rooftops until
you notice walls with small closets in them. There are 4 closets, 3 have items
in them, and 1 has Echigo-ya. If you go for the items, make sure to stealth
kill any enemies that get in your way. Once inside the closet that Echigo-ya is
in, you will have to fight him.
=
Boss: Echigo-ya
He isn't that hard, if you keep attacking him without getting off track, he
won't be able to shoot you with the gun he has. But beware; the gun he has does
cause quite a lot of damage, so keep your eye on your health while fighting.

|. .|\
|Mission 2: DELIVER THE SECRET MESSAGE||>
|.___________________________________.|/
This is one of the easiest levels to get a Grand Master rating on. Once
started, immediately grapple yourself onto the nearest roof. Just like in the
first level, stick to the roofs of the places to keep secretive.
Beware, you may happen upon a few ninjas on the roofs; in this case, quickly
kill them with shurikens.
If enemies see you from the ground, immediately crouch down until the caution
has worn down.
Make your way up to the North-West part of the level by jumping around the
rooftops. You will come to a wide-open area. Jump down, and kill any wandering
enemies quickly. Go across the bridge that should be there and the mission will
be complete. No bosses.
If you choose to win this level by running ground level, I seriously suggest
you bring some colored-rice to aid you in the labyrinth of houses and alleys.

|. .|\
|Mission 3: RESCUE THE CAPTIVE NINJA||>
|._________________________________.|/
This stage can be a bit overwhelming, seeing there are wolves and archers
around the woods part. Don't worry though; the trees keep excellent hiding
spots. When you start out, look at your map and make your way to the nearest
cave. When in the caves, it's fairly linear from here on out.
Beware, plenty of pitfalls are ahead of you and just normal jumping cannot pass
them. When you get to one, practice the Up, Up, X move. This will have Rikimaru
do a long front flip over the crevice.
Also, you will find a bomb in random locations in the cave. I suggest you pick
it up; it will help you greatly in the next boss battle.
When you get further into the cave, you will happen upon a very narrow bridge,
which has two sides to jump to. Make sure you jump to the right side.
On this side, a very linear trail to the boss is seen.
=
Boss: Goo:
He is big, fat, and perverted. Randomly, he might have two dogs aiding him; and
sometimes, he will even have a bear with him. My best suggestion is to leave
the animals alone for now, and on an off chance, he might actually kill them
himself accidentally. If he doesn't, finish them off while avoiding his massive
club. When it is just Goo left, throw that bomb at him you picked up earlier
(if you didn't, just keep attacking and blocking). The bomb should take a huge
amount of HP away from him.
After he swings his huge club, he is wide open for a huge 3 or 4 hit combo by
you. Repeat until defeated.

|. .|\
| Mission 4: CROSS THE CHECKPOINT ||>
|._________________________________.|/
Once started, you will end up in a battle with Tazu. She is very easy, with
blocking and counter-attacking as the strategy. She'll die with ease, if you
keep on track and an effective 3 to 4 hit combo.
O.K. There are two effective ways to do this. I'll start out with the grapple
technique. Once the battle s finished and you are under Rikimaru's control,
QUICKLY grapple yourself to the right side of the gate. Look in front of you:
You'll see a tree. Grapple onto one of the branches. Look in front of you; and
you'll see a tree to your right. Grapple to that tree. Look down, and if any
enemies are afoot. You should see a bridge from where you are. Glide your way
across, and avoid any dangers.
Once across the small bridge, you will come to a place that is great for hiding
and having enemy awareness calm down. Go north still, and you'll eventually get
to a huge door. Your next challenge is ahead.
OR, you can go MY personal patented way.
Run Like Hell.
Yes, once started run on the right side of the stage all the way to then end.
DO !NOT! stop to fight enemies, you'll just get surrounded and swarmed and
killed really quickly. Bombs are also really effective in this situation. Be
aware, though, any enemies that follow you into the boss fighting arean WILL
help the boss kill you. In this case, either bomb them greatly, or run around
and wait until the boss kills them on accident himself.
=
Boss: Senjuro Akechi:
This is the toughest boss fight yet. This guy has a deadly 3-hit combo. It can
be easily blocked and countered. But if it goes through; he'll finish it up
with a devastating Slash that will damper your performance greatly. I highly
suggest throwing bombs left and right at him, for it will damage it quite a bit.
Just keep up what you have been doing the last boss fights. Block. Counter.
Attack. He shouldn't be that hard for an experienced assassin.

|. .|\
| Mission 5: PUNISH THE MISGUIDED PRIEST ||>
|.________________________________________.|/
This level is, by far, the toughest to navigate through. It's a huge maze. It
also has tough enemies in it.
I'm afraid I cannot help you through this stage. A direct route is hard to
point out, and this place is crawling with enemies. Find the most secretive
route, with fewer enemies. This is an excellent to start really practicing.
If you wander around enough, you will run into a semi-boss, the bodyguard,
Himone Kitoya. He is 150 HP, and it isn't much of a hassle at all. Once you get
him down to 50 HP, he will surrender.
Before he announces where the priest is, an arrow is shot through his head.
Grapple up to the nearest roof and head west until you waltz into a courtyard
that has Kataoka Katayumi
=
Boss: Kataoka Katayumi:
This is about the only difference in the game in between Ayame and Rikimaru. If
you're Rikimaru, the priest will surrender and slay himself. You will then
decapitate him with a final blow.
Ayame, however, will have to fight the priest. Beware; he is a very quick
bowman. His arrows are deadly, and fast. Agility is key in this fight. Get up
close to him and keep running around him so he will have trouble aiming his bow
and arrow. This is when you ATTACK. Don't stop! If you get in the right groove,
he won't be a problem. Thanks to Dyson Turner for the info.

|. .|\
| Mission 6: INFILTRATE THE MANJI CULT ||>
|.________________________________________.|/
When started, look to the right of you and you will notice a wooded place. Go
there and watch out for guys. Look and you'll see a staircase, go up there with
caution and kill any guards. Grapple onto the roof nearest you.
Be aware of rooftop enemies when you venture your way South on the roof. Keep
going until you see a big building, grapple to it while avoiding enemies. Kill
any necessary threats. In the entrance, kill the guard that frequents there and
grapple to the top of the statue to start a boss fight.
=
Boss: On Andon:
She has a huge weakness: she's slow. Her attacks are also relatively slow,
making it easy to block and counter. Bombs are extremely effective against her,
but I suggest saving any items for the following tough fight after this.
=
Boss: Onikage:
This guy is quick and has deadly attacks that are both physical and
swords-like. I suggest chucking nothing but bombs at this fool, and block and
counter like you never have before. If you find yourself getting cornered, try
to run to the opposite side of the arena from him and get a clean start there.
Once he gets down to 100HP, he'll "finish you off later" and runs off.

|. .|\
| Mission 7: DESTROY THE FOREIGN PIRATE ||>
|.________________________________________.|/
This level is just like the one of level 2; its looks are intimidating. Look
around. Get to the highest point you can see. Once there, grapple up to the
top. Look around: Do you see a ship somewhere? If you don't, go to another high
spot and look until you can see a ship. Head over there.
Watch out for enemies, and stealth around as much as you can. Once to the ship,
kill any guards that might be there and go into the cockpit thing.
=
Boss: Balmer:
While Balmer is slow when it comes to speed, his attack are powerful and one if
his attacks (Saber Jab) cannot be blocked. Bombs really helped me here, and if
your health gets below 50 HP heal. Just keep on countering and blocking and
this guy should be done with.

|. .|\
| Mission 8: CURE THE PRINCESS ||>
|.________________________________________.|/
I suggest taking out your memory card for this level; you die a lot if you're
not careful. I suggest using Shurikens for the wolves, and stealth for the
grunts. For the first part, just hide behind each tree and scan for enemies.
Kill them quietly and quickly.
When you get to the end of the forest, you'll see a grunt walking, kill him
when he starts walking away from you. Scan the left to the wall and kill any
baddies, and more forward. The next guard here is tricky, and I suggest
throwing bombs, sleep bombs, anything drastic to kill him.
Grapple your way onto the cliff, and kill the baddie in here. Keep on going
north in the caves and keep killing any hazards. When you get to the narrow
wall, climb up it and grab the herb. No bosses here!

|. .|\
| Mission 9: RECLAIM THE CASTLE ||>
|.________________________________________.|/
Starting behind the gate, crouch down and go across the bridge. An enemy will
be there, kill him when their back is facing you. See the small hill by the
terrain next to you? Go up it and be weary of enemies.
Ok, this is the fun (but sometimes hard part). You see the tall white building
in front of you? You are going to have to grapple yourself to the clear top.
This is tricky at moments, every inch are necessary. When you get to the very
top ledge, aim your grapple where the spiked rood is. AIM your grapple AT THE
WALL (not the end of the spikes) and your character could carry himself up
there.
This all may take a few tries, but it's way easier then going to default route.
=
Boss: Onikage:
As one of the final bosses, he's not hard. But compared to some of the other
various baddies around here; he can be tough. His main attack (the Kick) can be
devastating if not blocked and countered correctly, so I suggest bringing some
healing items. Basic combos will do here, and he should be done with in no time.

|. .|\
| Mission 10: RESCUE THE CAPTIVE PRINCESS ||>
|.________________________________________.|/
This is the hardest level in the game, and this is where the plot starts to get
a bit fake. Since this is the last level, I suggest taking ALL of everything in
your inventory, and DON'T save when you die.
When you start out, hide and kill all enemies. Stealth is very important in
this stage, because these particular enemies are deadly when in packs. Travel
north until you get to a bridge.
Right now, it is HIGHLY recommended that you use some chameleon spells right
now. They will make you look like a guard, and the only enemies that will tell
if you're an imposter are the Firedogs, which are easy to kill. After crossing
the bridge, you should come up to a pillar. Look around at you'll see enemies.
Either kill them with poison rice or the good ol' fasion way.
Through the double doors in front of you, you will wander into your first-final
boss fight...
=
Boss: Onikage
Onikage is as as he was a couple of levels ago. Keep your guard up the whole
time, and keep in alignment with him the whole time. Bombs help you here too.
He also regains his life sometimes, so be prepared.
This is when it gets tough, the princess is being held down below.
This place is incredibly difficult, and it's best beaten with your own
comfortable route. Some things to beware: Enemies here are tough in looks and
in skill. Kill them quickly as possible, normal dueling just won't do here.
Lava: yes, there is lava. If you touch it, you'll lose health. Easy enough said
than done. When you have reached to the area, the final fight will start...
Boss: Lord Mei-oh
Lord Mei-oh is a tricky little fellow. He uses projectiles as specials, so be
prepared to heal yourself a lot. Before he strikes you with lightening, just
quickly swipe until he is dead before he can get a chance to do anything. If
this does not work for some people, unleash all your bombs, mines, and anything
weapons against him. That should stun him to an attackable position.

Congratulations! You have completed Tenchu: Stealth Assassins
