Foreword
--------

Super Tokusatsu Taisen 2001, a new game from Banpresto, gathers all Tokusatsu
Heroes in one epic game. Unlike the predecessor which was Super Hero
Operations & the sequel Diedal's Ambition, this game somewhat uses the
system of Super Robot Wars. There are minor voice-overs (Like the Shocker's
"Eee"), but there are no voice-overs for the heroes. Instead, to make up for
the lack of the voice-overs, they filled the CD with the original movie clip.

These are the Tokusatsu show taken to make this game :
- Ultraman
- Ultraseven
- Ultraman Jack (return of Ultraman)
- Giant Robo
- Super Robot Red Baron
- Daitetsujin 17 (one-seven)
- Kamen Rider 01
- Kamen Rider 02
- Kamen Rider V3
- Kamen Rider Black
- Kamen Rider Black RX
- Kikaider
- Kikaider 01
- Inazuman
- Uchuu Keiji Gavan
- Uchuu Keiji Sharivan
- Uchuu Keiji Shaider
- Himitsu Sentai Go Ranger
- Banpresto originals

Please excuse my ugly formatting for this document. I have taken it
from my website at http://change.to/tokusatsu and have some trouble
implementing the web layout into text format.

                              GAME SYSTEM
=============================================================================

BATTLE SYSTEM
-------------

The game plays much like an old styled strategy game, such as Fire Emblem
or Super Robot Wars (earlier version). The player and the enemy takes turn
to move their units on the battlefield.

JOYSTICK SETUP

Circle - Select (If pressed on a unit will show the unit's Command List, and
if pressed on an empty square will show Game Options)
Cross - Cancel (If pressed on an empty square will show the square's
information)
Note : The Square Information shows the Defense Percentage and Hit Rate
Percentage affected by the terrain. This is important. Position the units
in an advantageous terrain.

Square - Show Map
Triangle - Speed up Cursor
Start - Game Options
Select - Nothing
R1/L1 - Next/Previous Friendly Unit
R2/L2 - Next/Previous Enemy Unit
R1+R2+L1+L2+Select+Start - Soft Reset.

ATTACKING AND DEFENDING

The battle screen will show up whether the unit is attacking or
defending. The top most screen shows the amount of HP and Energy both
the enemy unit's and player unit's info. Once the HP reaches 0, the
unit is destroyed.

Destroyed Heroes and Soldiers don't cost a thing. However, a destroyed Tank
(that has been produced in a factory) will be lost, and that unit has to be
produced again.

When being attacked, this option will be shown.
The options are :
1. Commence Sequence
2. Choose Weapon
3. Dodge
4. Block

Pressing the Circle button at the Commence Sequence option will continue
the attack normally.

However, pressing the Square button will skip the battle animation (Good
when fighting non-interesting enemies). This also applicable when attacking.

BUILDINGS
---------

There are three buildings of importance in the battlefield. If these
buildings have red flags, it means the building belongs to the enemy. It
must be captured with the green colored units (i.e. Soldiers or Ultra-
Squad). Once captured, they will benefit the player accordingly.
The three buildings are Research Lab, Factory and Supply Depot.

Research Lab Building Options

1. Research a Mecha / Unit
2. Research Item
3. Hire a Scientist
4. Cancel Research

In the bottom box, it will shows the item/unit name and the time it
takes to research it when you select an item/unit.

Factory Building Options

1. Produce an Unit
2. Produce an Item
3. Stop Production
4. See available Items/Units

In the bottom box, it will shows the item/unit name and the time it
takes to produce it when you select an item/unit.

As long as there's money at hand, production should never stop. Once
the items are done, select the Factory and start to produce more items.

How to use Supply Depot efficiently :
1. Put some strong unit that has a large energy consumption in it.
2. Let the enemy attack, then counter-attack.
3. On the next turn, recharge. It cost some money and materials, though.
4. Since recharging makes the unit at peak condition again, repeat #2

INTERMISSION
------------

On the Intermission Screen, the menu that are available are :
1. Memory Card
2. Unit List & Upgrades
3. Research & Development
4. Manufacturing
5. Next Stage

The right statistics shows the amount of available Money and Materials.
It also shows the total number of turns that have been passed. On the
bottom of the Intermission screen is the last stage that has been cleared.

MEMORY CARD
The four options on the top are Save, load, Quick Save and Quick Load.
The second row options are Memory Card Slot 1 or Slot 2.
The listing on the bottom are the savegame. This game can save and load
anywhere! (Well, except during talk scene).

By selecting the Unit List & Upgrades, a sub-menu will pop-up.

1. Hero
Upgrades, statistics and unit list of the "Hero". Heroes include Kamen
Riders, Ultramans, and other Tokusatsu.

2. Army
Upgrades, statistics and unit list of the Army. These are the green army
that will aid the heroes in the war.

3. Mecha/Vehicle
Upgrades for all the army vehicles and Mechas. (Heroes vehicle are on
the Hero List, not here)

Research & Development and Manufacturing Option works exactly like when
clicked on the building. See "Buildings" section above.

The "Next Stage" option will ask whether to save or not, and then
continues the storyline.

UNIT INFORMATION
When selecting the command to see the unit's statistics, here's the
option that are available :

1. The left button shows the unit Strength
2. The middle button shows the Character Strength
3. The right button shows the unit's weapons.

To the top of the photo, is the unit / character's name. Next to the
photo is the unit's current level, how many experience he needs to
raise to the next level (NEXT), and the current Morale of the Unit.

Under the photo, is the unit's real name.

UNIT STRENGTH

On the top right corner of the screen, is the unit's size. Naturally,
humans are small sized, and Ultramans are usually large sized.

The left panel shows the unit's name, and the parts equipped on the unit.

Below it, is the unit's physical status. The kanji next to the body
icon and sword icon shows whether the unit can be upgraded statistically
or weaponly or not. If it can't be upgraded, then it will increase along
with the level.

Under the HP/EN bar, is the skill/ability that unit has.

To the right, under the unit's large picture, is the stats of the unit.
For Kamen Rider Ichigo, it says :

Armor - 51      Movement - 5
Agility - 103   Type - Land

And below the stats is the unit's grade in the particular area of the
map. From left to right, they are : Sky, Land, Sea, Space, Demon,
Children, Negative. (What's Demon, Children and Negative means are
still mystery)

CHARACTER STRENGTH

To the right of the character's photo is the name. At the far right
of the photo is the character's current level, experience needed to
raise level and current morale.

The middle panel shows the character's statistics. They are :

Melee         Dodge Rating           Sense
Shoot         Hit Rating

The bottom panel shows the character's ability and the character's
grade in the map area (see the unit's statistics).

Melee : Denotes the character's fighting strength in close combat.
Shoot : Denotes the character's fighting strength in long range
       shooting.
Dodge Rating : How well this character dodges attack.
Hit Rating : How good this character when targeting enemy units
            (hit chance)
Sense : The Critical Hit Sense for this character.

WEAPON LIST

The weapon screen shows all available weapons for that unit.

For example, the bottom list of the Kamen Rider Ichigo's weapon is
"Rider Denko Kick". That Kick has a 59 Strength, and has a range
between 1 to 3. It also has a hitrate bonus +25.

If the weapon has ammunition, it will show up on the ---/--- on the
middle bottom panel. At the very bottom of the screen is the Morale
Requirements for that weapon to be used and the Energy Consumption.

The bottom Right panel shows the bonus Critical Hit of that weapon.
A critical hit adds certain amount of damage to the enemy.

Weapon Notations :
(P) - Means that the weapon can be used after the unit moves.
(L) - In small units, it means that this weapon can hit Large
     Sized enemies.
(S) - In Large units, it means that this weapon can hit Small
     Sized enemies.

Note that if a Large Unit attacks a Small Unit, it will have ridiculous
disadvantages in hitrate. Sometimes they will never hit Small Units at all.

GAME OPTION
-----------

Pressing Start or pressing Circle at a non-occupied square will bring
up the option menu.

On the top-left, the box shows the current game information. The first
one is the number of turns that have passed in this stage. The second
one shows how much money is currently available. And the third one shows
the amount of materials that is currently available.

The bottom-right one shows the game options menu. From top to bottom,
they are :

1. End the current turn.
2. Unit List
3. Show Scenario Goal
4. System
5. Memory Card (Save/Load)

The system option has a sub-menu. They are :

1. Square On / Off
Shows the squares in the map.
2. Sound Stereo / Mono
3. Vibration On / Off
4. Henshin Movie On / Off
Shows the transformation sequence movies or not.
