INTRODUCTION: Do not be deceived by the picture on its box, this game is in no
way related to the Tim Burton remake of the 1967 classic, Planet of the Apes.
Instead, this game is much more loyal to the original concept, and it includes
characters and environments from the original movie. However, the game is not
simply confined to the original concept. The player will find many unique
environments like a decaying monastery, dangerous mines, and an abandoned
military base. The lead character, Ulysses, uses an interesting blend of
problem solving and combat to move through a series of challenges to foil the
machinations of the gorilla leader General Ursus. In the process Ulysses
inadvertently fulfills a prophecy that promises the resurrection of humankind.
If you have the hard disk space I strongly recommend installing the entire
1-1.5 GB game for fast, smooth performance. This game was released for the PC
in September 2001 by Ubi Soft.

THE CONTROLS: The keyboard is the only interface tool used to play Planet of
the Apes (No Mouse). You can change the following controls by selecting
“Controls” from the main menu and mapping the keyboard to your liking.
- MOVEMENT is controlled with the up, down, left and right arrow keys. The up
arrow moves Ulysses forward, the down arrow causes him to step backwards, the
left and right keys turn him left and right respectively.
- “Alt” is your ACTION key; Ulysses will utilize the object in his hand or he
will attack. It also allows him to pick up objects and interface with his
environment. This is the primary key.
- The “x” key brings up your character’s INVENTORY. To select an item,
highlight it with the up and down arrow keys and press Alt. You can change the
inventory page with the left arrow key, and get more information on certain
highlighted items by pressing the right arrow key.
- To toggle between PUTTING AWAY and TAKING OUT a selected item press the “z”
key.
- To DROP an item from your inventory press the “q” key.
- To change your VIEW press and hold the “a” key and manipulate the view with
the arrow keys.
- To RUN, hold the Shift key while pressing the appropriate arrow key.
- To CROUCH, hold the Ctrl key. You may walk while holding Ctrl to get through
tight spaces. Crouching will bring up the audiometer, which can tell you about
the position of nearby apes. Crouching and walking is an effective way to sneak
past enemy guards. If you crouch and press “a” you will be able to look around
corners.
- To JUMP, press the spacebar. Alternatively, if you press Alt while running
you will jump. For a walking jump press the spacebar while walking forward.
- Use the space bar to SKIP CUT SCENES you do not wish to view. Not all cut
scenes can be skipped, such as those that set up the moments before a mission.
- To swim hold ALT while in water. The down arrow will submerge you, the up
arrow causes you to swim up, and the left and right arrows are used to adjust
the direction you are swimming.
-  You can LOCK your view on an approaching enemy before or during battle by
pressing the “a” key.
- Contrary to what is said in the manual not every weapon creates a CROSSHAIRS
when you press and hold the “a” button, only projectile weapons do. The
crosshairs is great for distance targeting but you will regret your choice of
weapons if an enemy gets into close combat with you for two reasons: 1) It is
nearly impossible to switch weapons effectively in close combat. 2) Once you
are in close combat it is possible, while holding “a”, for the target to
disappear when it is too close to you. During such a situation, release the “a”
key and fire point blank into your target.
- To TARGET with a GUN, press and hold “a”, then move the crosshairs over the
target. If the target is both valid and in range the crosshairs will turn red.
Fire by pressing Alt. The enemy can block your shots; wait for its body to
relax and then fire again, don’t waste your ammo shooting at a defensive enemy
- To HEAL you need a medikit. Select it in your inventory and press Alt.
Alternatively you can also use it if it is in your hand.

TIPS:
- Learn to use the AUDIOMETER. When you enter a new hallway or room, crouch and
look at the top center of the screen. A graph will appear. If the graph has any
lights on it an ape is nearby. Based on the position of the lights you can
determine whether the ape is to your left or right (compare the lights to the
vertical line) and forward or behind (compare the lights to the horizontal
line). The more intense the lights the closer the target is.
- To SNEAK successfully, stay out of the line of site of a moving target.
- A PROBLEM of the game is the fact that if you try to attack (Alt) while
running (Shift + arrow key) you will jump right at your target and he will get
the first attack. Try to run in spurts. Don’t charge into rooms.
- You can LOOK AROUND CORNERS or doors quickly by approaching the opening and
standing to the side of it while looking in the direction you want to see
without exposing yourself.  This will provide an angle into the next room and
allow you to see into it without the guards inside it being able to see you.
The game’s look function (crouch and press “a” then look around with the arrow
keys) is best used on overhangs, ledges and cliffs to see what is beneath them,
but it is also very helpful when it comes to looking around corners. What you
must do is stand to the side of the opening and face in the direction of the
opening then crouch and press “a”. When the camera angle shifts forward use the
left or right arrow key to turn your perspective and examine the room. This
method provides lovely shots but it is cumbersome when you want to move quickly
and it does not work in tight spaces because if the camera shifts forward
against a wall, it will stunt the range of your view.
- If your enemy doesn’t have a gun the BEST WAY TO ATTACK without taking damage
is to allow the target to approach you and then time your first blow to strike
at just the moment the target comes into range. However this is easier said
then done. If you approach your target first you will not be able to hit it
until you stop moving, which means the enemy has the potential to land the
first blow. But if you stand still and poorly time your hit and the enemy is
out of range you may have to step forward anyway and put yourself at risk. If
your opponent has a gun you must either rush it for close combat or shoot back.
Close combat in this game is not a delicate affair, keep in range and keep
pressing the attack key (Alt) until the enemy drops. The enemy will constantly
block your blows, wait for its guard to drop and then quickly attack. When you
stun an ape guard he will briefly step back out of range, move forward while he
is in a daze and hit him to finish him off, otherwise he will recover and fight
back. In order to keep in range of your target you may want to hold the up
arrow constantly while in battle; during the moments that follow your swings
you will press against the enemy in front of you and then quickly swing again
(this method can be quite effective if done properly).
- CONSERVE your medikits, after you complete a set of missions you will be
completely healed automatically. You can carry 5 medikits at a time.
- Keep out of the line of sight of CAMERAS. When a camera starts blinking red
or you hear a beep, duck out of the way before it establishes a lock and an
alarm is sounded bring guards to your location. You cannot shoot a camera to
destroy it, an alarm will sound.
- Listen for ENCOUNTER MUSIC, it may tell you that you are in a battle before
you even spot the person who is attacking you. It will also tell you that you
have eluded a pursuer if it stops playing.

SOLUTION:
MEDICAL CENTER PART 1: You start in a holding cell. Approach the door (up arrow
key) in front of you and press the action key (Alt). A cut scene shows food
being provided. Approach and pick up the tray (Alt), you will drop a key and a
note, pick them both up. Select the key from your inventory if it is not in
your hand (press “x”, highlight the key with the up or down arrow, then press
Alt), then approach the door and press Alt to open it with they key. Exit the
cell and head straight (to run hold the Shift and appropriate arrow key); bear
right when you can no longer go straight. In front of you will be an open cell,
head in and pick up the medikit there and put it away (z). Exit the cell and
follow the wall left. You will pass through two archways and enter a second
holding room filled with cages. Pass through the door at the end of this room,
and follow the wall to the right. Eventually you will pass a door to your right
and come to an intersection, wait here. Soon an ape guard will spot you and you
will have to fight him with your fists (stand your ground and let him approach
you, then time your blow well to avoid being the first one hit and losing the
advantage). Once he is down, pick up the club he dropped, turn right. At the
medical beds turn left. After a short distance you will see a control panel
with a red button, put away your club (“z”) then approach the control panel and
press Alt. An alarm sounds. Press “z” to rearm yourself. Turn right from the
panel and head back to the intersection. Go straight through it and you will
encounter a scientist, beat him twice and he drops. (If you must heal at any
time, select your medikit from the inventory and press Alt). Turn right and
enter his lab, straight ahead is a surgical cart, and on top of it is a
surgical saw, pick it up (first put away the club with “z”, then press Alt).
Exit the room and head straight, when you reach a wall keep it to your right
and walk around the corner to your left. You will see a door there; go through.
A cut scene shows a rat enter a grate on the wall. Approach the grate, press
Alt with the saw in your hand. Crouch and walk forward (Ctrl to crouch, up
arrow key to walk forward) into the open grate. A cut scene shows Dr. Zaius and
Professor Zira discussing the fate of Ulysses.
MEDICAL CENTER PART 2: Turn right and look in the corner of the room, pick up
the medikit on the floor. Diagonally across the room from your current position
is a door, arm yourself with your club, and walk over to the darkened bookshelf
to the left of the door, crouch directly beside it and face in the direction of
the door. Eventually an ape guard comes into the room. When he passes you,
crouch walk out the door and turn left. As soon as you are in the hall you can
stand up and run. At the end of the hall bear right and go through the door
there. Across from you is a glass window with an ape behind it; run forward,
but once the ape spots you, stand still and let him approach, then beat him up
with your club. Move quickly, the guard you avoided earlier is on its way to
this room. At the entrance to the glass window room is an intercom, approach it
and press Alt. Exit the glass room and turn right keeping the window to your
right. Then pass through the next door into a room with many electronic cells.
Most likely you will be attacked immediately after entering this room. If not,
keep in mind that 1-2 ape guards patrol this area and can pop up at any moment,
you will have to deal with them when they spot you. From the entrance to this
area turn left, then take the next right, then the next right, and keep walking
until you arrive at an intersection. Head right and to your left is a darkened
security door. Wait here and a guard will come through, attack him; when he is
dead put your club away. In the room beyond the security door is another glass
window where you can see a sleeping guard. Turn left through the sliding door,
then right and go through another sliding door. Turn right and come to the
first door on your right. Crouch and walk into the room beyond this door. On
the table to the right is a key card, approach it, stand up, press Alt to pick
it up, then crouch and walk out of this room. Stand up and return quickly to
the security door and exit. Turn right and then take the next left back into
the row of cells. Enter the second cell on your right. On the floor is a
medikit, pick it up and exit this cell. Turn left, and turn left again at the
intersection; in front of you is a door with a keycard terminal next to it. Use
the keycard you just picked up on the terminal, then go through the door. Bear
left; go up the steps, and through a door into a new hall. Turn left at the end
of the hall and you can pick up a knife near some barrels, exit this hallway,
go back down the steps and turn left, go through the door you see there. You
have entered a room with a large floor grate with a hole in it. Drop down the
hole, turn around and crouch. While crouching walk to the right-hand corner of
this area and you come to a room filled with water. Drop into the water and
swim over to the ladder on your left in front of you. Climb the ladder with the
up arrow key; at the top climb off with the left arrow key. Exit this level
through the door on your left.
MEDICAL CENTER PART 3: Turn around and head back through the door, turn left
and you will find a medikit on the floor, pick it up. Return to your starting
position. To the right are some crates, approach them and hold the up arrow key
to climb them. On the top crate, face the door you just came through and press
the space bar to jump up, then press the up arrow to climb onto an overhead
ledge. (You may have to adjust your position on the crate to do this
successfully). Walk to the left on the ledge and crouch walk to pass through
the overhang into the next room. Pass through a total of three rooms and drop
down off the ledge when you can go no further. On a stack of crates in this
room is a keycard, pick it up, then climb the crates and get back onto the
overhead ledge. Exit and follow this ledge back two rooms, then drop into the
room where you hear a loud hissing sound. To your right is a control panel with
a dial and a red wheel. Approach the wheel and press Alt 3 times until the dial
display is fully red. QUICKLY exit this room through the open doorway under the
ledge you just dropped down from. Soon the dial explodes and an ape runs into
the valve room. Enter that room again and crouch walk past the ape guard into
the room he came from. To your left is a gate with a keycard terminal, get up
and approach it, then use your keycard to get through. In the hall you just
entered switch to your club or knife and turn right and go into the next room,
then turn right again and run for the open doorway in front of you. You will
spot a scientist coming toward you, take him out quickly so as not to rouse the
sleeping guard in this room. Then go through the doorway and follow the path to
the left. You will arrive at a sliding door that activates a cut scene showing
ape experimentation on a human subject. After the cut scene kill the scientist
in this room and pick up the pharmacy keycard and the report on his computer
terminal. Now head back to the gate from which you entered this area. At the
end of the hall with the gate is the door to the pharmacy; it has a keycard
terminal next to it. Activate the terminal with the keycard and enter the
pharmacy. Bear left and look at the bookcase on the left wall. Pick up the
medikit on the bookshelf. Turn around and you will see a red bottle of pills on
a shelf, pick it up and put it in your hand. Press Alt to use these pills and
you will start to get very sick. Turn left and look at the wall between the
bookshelf and the shelf, you will see an alarm box, QUICKLY approach it and
press Alt. An alarm will sound and Ulysses will pass out and be taken to a
morgue, then he will be taken off to a monastery for the next mission. At this
point he will be totally healed so I hope you conserved your medikits.

MONASTERY PART 1: You start this set of missions fully healed with your extra
medikits only. Exit room; kill the rat you approach as you leave. Turn left and
at next intersection turn right, head down the hall and turn right at the next
intersection. Enter the next room on your right. In this room, on your left is
a busted cabinet, approach its left side and press Alt while moving forward,
the cabinet will be shifted out of the way. In a niche behind the cabinet, pick
up the hologram cartridge. Exit this room and turn left, then enter the room
across the hall to your immediate right. In here, on a table to your right is a
knife, pick it up. Exit this room and turn right, then at the next intersection
turn left. Enter the first door on the right, and then kill the rat in this
room. On the bed to your right will be a medikit, pick it up and exit. Turn
left and head straight into the room at the end of the hall. To your left in
the back of the room is a large wooden structure with two knobs on either side
at waist height. Approach each knob and press Alt, a cut scene shows the wooden
structure swing around to reveal a holographic projector, use the cartridge you
found earlier to listen to a really preachy message, then exit the room. A cut
scene shows a man to your left, head down the hall in his direction, turn right
at the next intersection, then enter the next door on the left. Bear to the
left of the staircase and enter the tunnel that leads under the stairs. In
front and to the left of the trap door is a split, trembling pillar. Approach
the pillar and press Alt, a cut scene shows the ceiling falling in. Step up
onto the floor slab in front of you and turn around to face the door you
entered this room from. Now jump and pull yourself up into the room above you
(you may have to maneuver slightly to achieve this). To the left of the
fireplace in this room is a cabinet with a coat of arms on it, grab this object
and jump back down the hole. Now head through the trap door down the steps.
Approach the second barrel on the right (the one without a coat of arms) and
use the coat of arms on it. A cut scene shows the barrel opening; now walk
inside.
MONASTERY PART 2: Approach the table in front of you and pick up the jug, then
press Alt to smash it. Pick up the parchment inside and read it. Exit this room
through the open door. On the right of the tunnel you are in is a torch, use
it. Exit through the secret door to the left and head straight across the hall
through the archway into the pool room. Across from you is a massive black
cross; walk into it. In the antechamber carefully approach the ladder from its
left side and climb down. At the bottom of the ladder turn around and kill the
rat in this hall. At the end of the hall, turn left and enter a waterfall room.
Approach the book pedestal and use the book. Press Alt to page through the
book, then return to the pool room. After exiting the cross, go through the
door on your right and bear right into the dining room; kill the rat here too.
In the back right corner of the dining room is a doorway; go through and turn
left. On a table in front of you pick up the key. Go straight past the table
into the storeroom; in the back left corner pick up the medikit and exit this
room. Turn left and go through the door there. Make a quick left then a quick
right and you are stopped facing an iron gate, use the key to open it. Go
straight towards a hole at the base of the wall, crouch and crawl through. Head
straight toward the ladder and carefully push forward on it, then climb down.
At the bottom of the ladder immediately switch to your knife. Turn around and
kill the ape guard in this room. On the opposite wall is a massive wooden
tower, next to it is a torch, between the two is a hard to spot chain, approach
it and press and hold Alt. Wait until the statue pours out then walk over and
grab it. Reverse your course and return to the dining room. To your right is a
fireplace, to the left of the fireplace is a niche, approach it and use the
statue on it. The fireplace opens up, crouch and walk through it to the next
mission.
MONASTERY PART 3: Turn left and approach the large coffin, jump up onto it and
stand on its center while facing the closest wall. Jump straight up and catch
the ledge above you, then pull yourself up. Move to the right slightly, then
face the closest wall and jump straight up again and pull yourself up to the
next ledge. Now climb left up onto the rafter and turn left to face the window
on the opposite side of the room. Carefully walk across the rafter. At about ¾
of the way is a gap, you must walk and press space to jump over this. Exit the
window and drop down onto the roof, follow the roof around clockwise to the
large column diagonally across from where you dropped down. Beside this column
is a medikit, grab it and drop down into the courtyard. You will have to kill a
rat immediately. Now turn right and climb the stairs, (two other rats roam
beneath the covered area, kill them if you come across them). Straight ahead is
a door, open it and enter a room with a printing press and small organ. To the
back right of the room is a ladder; climb up to the ledge, then follow the
raised area to the left toward a small desk. Approach the desk and press Alt to
open it, then approach again and hold Alt until a drawer pops open on the desk.
Approach the drawer and press Alt to pick up sheet music. Climb down and exit
this room. Follow the covered walkway left and enter the next door on your
left, to your left across the room you have just enter is another door, go
through it into the chapel hall. Walk to the center of the room before you and
turn left, then walk straight forward into the chapel and turn right. At the
back right corner of the chapel is an open door, arm yourself with your knife
and go through it. Follow the path and you will have to defeat an ape guard
here. Now continue on this path toward a small altar; in this room to the right
is a table with a chalice. Pick up the chalice, and then pick up the key under
it. Reverse your course and go back to the courtyard; approach the well and
climb on its platform, face the wires and press Alt to descend. At the bottom
of the well, follow the path and kill the rat on the steps. Now bear left on
the raised platform and follow it to a room with a ladder, climb up to the next
ledge where you will find an iron gate. Open the iron gate using the key you
just found and go through; to the left is a red door, approach it and press Alt
twice until you kick the door in. Go through and turn right, then left, and
left again. Beside you is the sheet music slot for the organ, insert the sheet
music and watch the cut scene. Now head back to the chapel, but instead of
turning right go straight up the stairs to the big altar and drop down into the
hole near it.
MONASTERY PART 4: In front of you is a coffin with two stone faces on either
side of it. Approach the one on the left and press Alt. Now turn right and walk
clockwise around the coffin until you see two bright stones on the floor, pick
up the smaller stone and awkwardly carry it to the hole that just opened and
drop yourself and the stone through. A cut scene shows gates opening. Drop into
the water and press Alt to swim, press straight down (to submerge) while facing
the wall in front of you. Swim down halfway to an opening on your left and swim
through (correct your direction with the left and right keys). You will know it
is the correct one of the three tunnels in this area because it curves upwards.
Swim up by pressing the up key to change direction and surface at a square
pool. Exit the pool, then go through the door on your left. Turn left into the
hallway and go half way to a raised walkway, then jump up and climb onto the
walkway and turn right. Make another quick right through the next door and kill
the rat in this area. Now follow the tunnel to the next intersection and turn
right. At the end of the hall is a raised walkway, stand in front of it and
jump and climb up and go right. You will see a sliding floor trap. Stay close
to the right wall and run across the sliding floor as soon as it emerges from
the wall. Beyond this turn right and you will see some iron bars. Approach the
left side of these bars and press close against them where a torch can be seen
on the other side; now press Alt to open the bars. Kill the rat in this room.
In front of you is a coffin, to its right is a medikit, pick it up then turn
left and go forward to the second pillar; beside it is a long human bone, pick
it up and exit this room. Head straight and turn right at the end of the hall,
stop in front of the iron gate, open it with the torch on the left. Go through
to the next set of iron bars. To the right of this gate is a mechanism, use the
bone on it and once it is in place press Alt to open the gate, then go through
and turn right. On the wall to the left is a torch, approach and stand next to
it. In front of you is a sliding trap. To cross it successfully, pull the torch
just as the floor shuts, then wait a moment and run across when the floor
emerges from the wall again. In the last room look straight ahead at the center
of the wall and scan right, you will notice a bright rectangular block at chest
height on the wall, approach it and press Alt. The wall slides away revealing a
door, approach it for a cut scene that explains Ulysses predicament.

MINES PART 1: You start this set of missions with your medikits and your health
fully restored. Head straight to the opposite wall, look to the right on the
ground and pick up the medikit there. Turn around and head down the tunnel to
the left of where you entered. Follow this hall to a large room with two ape
guards and an out of order elevator shaft. As soon as you enter the room you
can crouch and hide behind a crate to your left. Now watch the guards and
determine which one is holding a club. Wait until this one is alone or far away
from his partner and attack him, then get his club and use it to beat up the
other guard. Now drop down into the elevator shaft in this room and pick up the
Electro Magnet Card hidden there, then climb out. To your right, in front of
you, is a large open cart, head to the right side of this cart to find a
medikit and pick it up. Now head to the opposite side of the room and look
behind two large crates to find the Signal Box Card. Grab the card and head for
the archway next to the elevator shaft. Go through this arch, arm yourself with
your club, and follow the tunnel to the control room, beat up the ape there. On
the right wall of this room is a control box with a picture of a magnet, the
word “POWER” and a slot, approach the slot and use the Electro Magnet Card on
it. Head to the matching control box on the exact opposite side of the room and
approach the slot there; use the Signal Box card on this slot, then reverse
directions and return all the way to the spot where you entered this mission.
Once you are back you will notice a terminal in front of you, approach it and
press Alt. You are now in control of the electromagnet hanging from the
ceiling. Maneuver the electromagnet using the arrow keys until it is centered
exactly above the overturned cart in this room, and then press Alt. If you did
this correctly you will hear a “thud” when the magnet touches the cart. Press
Alt again to lift the cart all the way up, then press the up arrow to move it
to the opposite side of the room, then press z. Head down the tunnel to your
right until you see two more control panels side by side. Approach the second
one on your right, face it from the slanted side and press Alt. Enter the
following sequence when the screen pops up: Alt, right arrow, right arrow, Alt,
right arrow, Alt, z. Now head to the panel on your left and press Alt. When the
screen opens press Alt, then press and hold the up arrow. The cart will follow
the track for some distance, then climb a hill and come to a stop, press z.
Head back to the panel on the right and Press Alt. When the screen pops up
enter the following sequence: right arrow, right arrow, alt, z. Now go back to
the panel on your left and press Alt. Hold the down arrow and watch the cart
accelerate to the bottom of the hill and crash into a gate, a message says you
need more speed; try again until the gate is smashed, then press z. Head
through the busted gate and follow the tunnel beyond it as it bears to the
left. In front of you is a cube with a key on it, pick up the key and run all
the way back to the elevator room where you killed the first two apes. Back in
this room turn left and follow the tunnel into a new room. On the left is a
storage cabinet, approach it and open it with the key you just picked up. Pick
up the blowtorch inside. Turn around, straight ahead and to the left is a
medikit; pick it up and head back to the cube where you picked up the key. Turn
right from the cube and you come to a new room with a functional elevator with
a set of metal bars forming a “V” at the base of its door. Approach the bars
and use the blowtorch, step back off the elevator landing and look to the
right, you will see an elevator control panel, approach and press Alt. Enter
the elevator and use the control panel inside it to exit this mission.
MINES PART 2: Turn right and walk clockwise around the elevator, to the left
behind it is a medikit, pick it up. Turn around and then go through the archway
on your left; follow the tunnel and take the next right, then pause before the
clouds of green gas. There is no way to totally avoid walking through the
poison gas and taking damage, but you can minimize the damage if you wait until
the gas is less intense and run instead of walk. Proceed down this tunnel and
take the next right. At the end of this tunnel on the right is a giant hole in
the wall, walk through into a ruined room and kill the rat here; afterward pick
up the gas detector on the floor. From now on when you are in a dangerous
quantity of gas the detector will click faster warning you. Now exit this room,
turn left, and then take the next right. Bear left into a large chamber and
kill that rat there. Walk to the upper right corner of this room and pick up
the medikit on the floor. Turn around and bear right, go up the ramp and enter
the hall, bear right and you come to a dead end, pick up the rifle on the
floor. Now turn around and walk straight until reach the wall. Look left into
the hall filled with poison gas and you will see a barrel. Take aim with your
rifle (hold “a”) and fire on the barrel when the crosshairs are red. The barrel
blows up and the gas in the hall clears. Now go towards the barrel you just
blew up and bear right. You will enter a room with many boulders next to a
barrel. Shoot the barrel. Now head through the hole you just cleared and you
will see a guard in front of you. Take aim (you may have to maneuver to a
position in range of the target), and shoot the ape. He will run toward you;
shoot when he is moving and when he is not defending himself. Once he is dead
look to your left, see the barrel? Take aim on it and wait, an ape guard will
walk by, shoot the barrel to blow up the guard. Now run to where you just shot
and look straight ahead, you will see a guard with his back to you, shoot him.
Once he is dead target the barrel in the distance and move within range, very
soon a patrol will walk by; shoot the barrel and the guard. Now head back to
where you shot the very first guard and turn left. Run through the gas while
bearing left and you will pass an orange barrel. Head straight past it to an
intersection and look right. In the distance is another barrel, back up as far
as you can while keeping this barrel in range, and then shoot it. Now run to
where the barrel was and turn left and head for the square doorway. At the
doorway look straight ahead and you will see a guard by another barrel, shoot
the barrel. Now head straight but bear right and you will enter another
elevator room. Use this elevator (as you did the first one you encountered) to
leave this mission.
MINES PART 3: Go through door on your right; drop into wrecked room and kill
two rats. Climb up the lone crate next to chasm, face the closest wall and jump
to grab hold of a pipe above you. Press the left arrow key to cross chasm and
Alt to drop down on other side. Turn around and pick up the battery on shelf.
Turn around and cross to opposite wall, follow the narrow ledge to your right
and drop into the shallow side of the chasm to avoid damage from the fall, then
exit this room and return to the entrance room. Wait here to battle an ape
patrol, then head straight and take your next left. Approach the rail cart in
front of you and use the battery in the square hole in its side. Turn around
and use the control panel (as you did in Mines Part 1) to maneuver the cart
away from the tunnel it is blocking, but be sure not to block off the tunnel
you just entered this room from. Now follow the newly revealed tunnel as it
descends to a pool of stagnant water. In this area you may have to fight 1-2
rats. Turn right and you will see a crowbar, pick it up. When you do, you will
see a cut scene with a bat flying around. Now head back to the room where you
entered this mission. Go down the tunnel directly across from the elevator and
you come to a room with some barrels and two crates. Approach the crate marked
“DANGER EXPLOSIVES” and use the crowbar to open it. Pick up the grenades inside
the box and exit this room. Go back down the tunnel and turn right at the
elevator, go straight until you enter a room with a cut scene of laughing ape
guards. Approach the hole in the floor, stand on its edge and use the grenade
(Alt), a cut scene shows the laughing apes blowing up. Drop into the hole and
go through the door to your left. In this room pick up the HF transmitter on
the floor in the center of the room. Then turn left and look at the console
against the wall; a medikit sits on top of the console, take it. Now climb back
onto the crate beneath the hole you just dropped through and jump and climb up.
Now head back to where you picked the crowbar up. Slightly enter the room to
your right, then take out and use the HF Transmitter (you will know it is
working when you hear white noise). Press Q to place the transmitter on the
floor. Bear left in this room until you come to a ridged wall. Climb the wall
and step off onto the platform to your left. Follow the platform left and jump
across to the next platform. Look up and you will see another pipe. Jump up and
catch the pipe and press the left arrow key to cross this room. When you reach
the other side of the room press Alt to drop down; then enter the door behind
you. Follow a short tunnel to an elevator room with a sleeping guard. Crouch
walk to the elevator controls, stand, activate the controls, crouch walk into
the elevator, stand and activate the inside controls.

ENTERING THE RUINED CITY: You start this set of missions fully healed and with
your remaining medikits, your rifle and your club. Run straight and turn right
behind the slab in front of you, then head straight but adjust your course to
stay behind the desk (keep it to your right), finally rush through the door and
up the steps. Head up to the 5th landing and enter the door on your right. Bear
right and you will see an ape sleeping on a sofa, crouch walk up to him, then
stand and beat him up with your club (you can sneak around him and leave him
alone but this is a waste of time really). Pick up the key to the right of the
guard on the sofa, turn around and approach the cage across the room, open it
with the key you just picked up. You meet Nova in a cut scene. Turn left and
approach the gaping hole in the wall, a cut scene shows an ape targeting you.
Head through the hole to the right and the view shifts to Ulysses standing on
the ledge. MOVE FAST. Move straight to the end of the ledge and press up to
face the wall and begin climbing. Hold the up arrow key until you see another
ledge and gaping hole to your right. Once your feet are slightly above the
level of the ledge, hold the right arrow key and climb above it, then press
down to step on the ledge, press right to face the doorway and press up to walk
toward the hole, then bear LEFT to enter the room. Cross this room and turn
left beyond the hole in the floor. There are two guards here, beat them up with
your club then head through the doorway on your left to a room with two sofas.
Pick up the small key on the cocktail table and exit this room. Turn right and
then enter the hall on your left. At the end of the hall, on your right, is a
door with a control panel to its right. Use the small key you just picked up on
the control panel to open this door. Enter the room and approach the desk. To
the right, on the floor beneath the desk, is a medikit, grab it and turn right.
You will see a window with a control panel to its right, use the panel to close
the window, then turn around and look at the painting on the wall to your left,
you will see a glowing number: 854. Now exit this room and head back to the
hole in the floor and drop down. In this room are two paintings, approach the
smaller one and press Alt. Behind it is a safe, press Alt to use it and enter
854 by using the left arrow key and the Alt button. The safe opens; get the
note inside and read it, turn the pages using the right arrow and you see
another code: 4293. To exit this room, climb up the crate beside the
freestanding shelf and then climb onto the shelf itself. Face the wall opposite
the safe and jump and climb up out of the hole. Now head for the gaping hole in
the wall and reverse the directions for how you climbed up in order to climb
back down to the cage room. In the cage room head for the elevator door to the
left of the guard’s sofa and press Alt on the control panel to it’s right to
open it. Face the shaft and center your character in front of the doorway, now
walk to the edge and jump while moving in order to catch onto the cable and
slide to the ground floor. Exit the shaft and bear right up the stairs to the
second landing, then bear left and you come to a code panel beside a door, use
it (maneuver with arrow keys, press Alt to select the numbers, enter the code
by pressing Alt on the button at the bottom right of the panel) to enter the
code 4293, the number on the safe note. A cut scene ensues where Nova saves you
from a vicious, chatty, procrastinating ape and you leave the mission.
RUINED CITY 2: Head straight for a while and then turn right and go down the
steps. At the back of this area is a darkened door, go through and look to left
of entrance. Turn on light switch and turn around. To your left on a table is a
key, grab it and return up the stairs. Arm yourself and bear left into a
courtyard. There are two apes here you must kill. To the right of where you
approach the courtyard is a free standing L-shaped wall with a sniper rifle on
top of it. To get the rifle approach the darkened corner formed by the L, face
the rifle, jump up and then climb up to the ledge. Press Alt to switch weapons
(you will leave your old weapon in place of this one so don’t be confused if it
looks like there is more than one gun on the ledge). Now drop down and head
through the opening in the stone wall to the right of the steel door in this
courtyard. Kill the ape scientist in the pit and bear left to a wall with some
crates in front of it. To the right of the crates you can pick up a medikit.
Climb to the top crate, face the wall, jump and then climb up onto the roof.
Head to the back right corner of the roof where you see a shaft. Stand on the
edge of the shaft, center yourself on the ledge, and then look at the wall
across from you. Drop over the edge very gently onto some crates in order to
prevent fall damage. Drop off the crates, turn around and go through the door
behind the crates. There are two scientists behind a desk to the left. Wait for
them to run toward you and kill them. To your right is a shelf with a poisonous
gas vial, pick it up. Enter the desk area and look under the desk, pick up the
medikit there. Now exit this room through the closed door (not the one you
entered through) and turn right. Take the door to your right, then head
straight through the next door and face left. Crouch walk and look around the
corner to see two ape guards. To kill them, arm yourself with your gas
canister, then get them in your line of sight and BEFORE they see you throw the
canister with Alt. Be sure to stand away from the edge of the wall to your left
or the canister won’t go very far. Now run out of the room to avoid being shot
or poisoned. When the gunfire stops and you hear the apes drop (very soon),
return to the room and approach the shelf on the left to pick up some ammo. Now
go through the door the apes were guarding to see a cut scene with General
Ursus. Return to the laboratory. A cut scene shows an ape using the service
lift. Approach the lift as you did on the roof and gently drop down. Beat up
the scientist in this room and then head left down the tunnel. Go through the
door at the end of the tunnel and follow the path to a room with two gates.
Approach the gate with a sign next to it saying “ZONE 312”; use the key you
found earlier to open the gate and go through.
RUINED CITY 3: MOVE FAST…YOU MUST RUN…Turn right and go down the escalator,
turn left at the bottom, then turn right at the wall, then take the very next
tunnel to your left. Head to the end of the tunnel and turn right. A cut scene
shows ape guards coming after you. KEEP RUNNING…Drop down into the train tunnel
and bear left following the wall. Keep an eye out for a green-lit hole in the
wall on your left, crouch and walk through it into a room filled with
electrified water; for now you are safe. When the electricity shuts off, run
toward the wood boards and bear right, and soon as you are in range jump to the
earth mound on your right; the electricity is briefly restored. Jump to the
next earth mound to your left and enter the doorway. At the next intersection
bear right and follow the tunnel to a door on your left, enter the control
room. Across the room is a power switch, use it; a voice tells you that the
ventilation system is offline. NOW RUN out of the room, follow the tunnel and
run straight through the intersection. Turn left and head straight for the fan.
Crouch walk once you are close to the fan in order to get past it. In the back
left corner of this room is a fuse box, take out the blown fuse. Turn around
and head for the exit door behind you; to the right of the door is a table with
a notepad. Grab the notepad and read it; you will spot the code “6572”. Now
exit and return to tunnel entrance of the electrified pool. (By the way, when
you shut off the electricity to the fan it also turns off electricity to this
pool, so use this method if you have difficulty crossing the pool.) Look
through the tunnel opening and you will see an ape patrol, you can shoot him
with the sniper rifle from this room. Now crouch and check your audiometer, get
a perspective on the two remaining guards in the train tunnel. When they are
far enough away, exit the hole in the wall and run to the steps on the opposite
side of the tunnel. At the top of the steps use the access code 6572 to enter
the storage room. In the room, at the back is a fuse on a table, pick it up and
look to the shelf on your right, you can pick up another medikit there. Now
head back to the fuse box room; carefully time your crossing of the train
tunnel to avoid the two patrols. (Note: If you have to fight you can use all of
the medikits you have accumulated up to this point on this mission because you
will not take them with you to the next set of missions.) You can enter the
fuse box room through the door to the left of the fan because it is open now.
Use the fuse on the fuse box. Head left into the elevator shaft and activate
the controls. You see a cut scene with Nova and Bosko.

HUMAN VILLAGE PART 1: You start totally healed but you have no inventory. Head
down the hall in front of you, follow it until you see an ape chasing a human.
Rush forward until the ape notices you, and then kill him. Pick up the club he
drops and turn right at the intersection (in the direction the human ran).
Follow this hall to a room where the human is. Approach close to him and he
offers you a medikit, take it with Alt. Head back down the hall, straight
through the intersection and proceed until you see a human get shot in front of
you, then stand still. Crouch walk and look around the corner to see two apes
in this room. Wait for the ape with the gun to head down the left tunnel, then
turn right and kill the ape on the steps. Now chase after the ape with a gun
and beat him up, then pick up his gun. At the end of the hall he is in is a
room, there is a tunnel to the right before the room, take this tunnel and you
will come to a room on your left. Enter this room and beat up the ape that is
terrorizing a human there. Follow the human as he heads out into the hall and
jumps up onto a rafter, jump and climb up after him and enter his room. To the
left on the floor is a poker, pick it up and go back to the hall via the
rafter. Kill the guard (you can shoot him from the rafter or jump down and beat
him up) in this hall. Now head straight to the next intersection and turn
right. Kill the ape guard in this hall. Go to the end of the hall and turn
right, head forward into a room with a pile of burning logs. Approach the logs,
arm yourself with the poker and press and hold Alt. If you do this correctly,
Ulysses will kneel beside the logs for a time and then stand up on his own,
then you can release the Alt button. The poker is glowing a rainbow of colors.
QUICKLY turn around and RUN back down the hall where you killed the last guard
and follow it until you reach an intersection with a pile of unlit logs.
Approach the pile and press Alt beside it to light it. Now head straight past
the pile down the next hall. Eventually you arrive at a courtyard where an ape
is holding a human over a well. Kill the ape; afterward he drops a machine gun.
(Change guns if you wish, but keep in mind that the machine gun has the
potential to waste a lot of ammo if your target blocks your shots). Take the
tunnel to the left of where you entered the courtyard and follow it to a pool.
To the back and right of you is a niche in the wall on the ground level; pick
up the medikit in the niche. Now head back to the courtyard and bear left,
enter the very next tunnel on your left. Follow this convoluted tunnel system
through a series of rooms until you see a human approaching you with a poker.
Stop there and he walks away. In the room you are in, to the right on a pile of
straw in a darkened corner, is another medikit, grab it and head back to the
courtyard. Bear left up the steps, and at the top arm yourself. Crouch walk
into the hall beyond the steps and look to the right, you will see a guard,
kill him as you see fit. Now head all the way back to the pile of logs you lit
and heat the poker as you did in the first fire. Run back to the courtyard, and
light the pile of logs to the right of the well. Heat the poker again, then
quickly run up the steps and run down the hall where you killed the last guard.
At the end of this hall is a pile of straw to the right of a wooden fence.
Approach the straw and press Alt to light it; a cut scene shows Ulysses being
suffocated as the fence burns down. (Incidentally, you do not have to heat the
poker or light the fires as I have instructed you in order to set fire to the
straw. The first time I played this board I accidentally knelt by the fence and
lit the straw with an unheated poker. You might be able to do the same. Based
on later experiences with log pile lighting I included how to light the logs on
this mission when I wrote the FAQ).
HUMAN VILLAGE PART 2: (WARNING: Most of the guards on this mission regenerate,
so kill them only when absolutely necessary.) Turn around and head down path
into pool of water, pick up medikit there, then turn around and follow the path
until you reach a courtyard with a giant kiln. Two apes are in this courtyard,
only the one to your right patrols it at this time. Wait for him to go up the
steps to the distant right and then crouch walk and drop down off the steps you
are on into the courtyard. Bear left and enter the first tunnel on your left.
Follow it until you see a small waterfall on the wall. Go the corner to the
right, crouch and look around it to see some guards patrolling. Wait for the
closest guard to get well away from the others and rush right around the corner
and kill him quickly. If you are lucky you will only have to fight him, if you
are unlucky you will have to kill a total of three guards. Continue forward to
a room with a smoking campfire, turn left and follow the tunnel. It turns right
and opens into a green courtyard. 1-2 apes patrol this courtyard, when they are
some distance from you, follow the wall to your left, and take the next tunnel
to the left. Follow this path to an intersection and turn right. At the top of
the slope is a stalagmite, behind it is a medikit, pick it up and then turn
around and head back, straight through the intersection to a clearing with a
cottage. Enter the cottage; Bosko screams as you enter (apparently surprised to
see you); he asks you to find his son. Turn to your right, on the table, pick
up the knife and the medikit now return to the green courtyard. Across from
you, up on a hill to the left of a boulder is a medikit, run over and grab it
if you need it (carefully avoid the patrol). Now retrace your steps to the kiln
courtyard (you will probably have to kill the guard in the smoking campfire
room each time you take this path). In the courtyard you will notice both
guards are on patrol. You will probably have to kill both, but if you are
clever you might be able to crouch walk and sneak past them into the room on
your left, where you can see the boy Timon tied to a pole. Approach Timon from
his right and press against the pole. Use the knife to cut his bonds and he
scampers away. Now retrace your steps to Bosko’s cottage, take care with the</pre><pre id="faqspan-2">
regenerated guards. Back in the cottage you see another cut scene telling you
how to leave the village via the bridge across the canyon. Head back to the
kiln courtyard and go directly across, then climb the steps on the opposite
side from you (luckily these guards here do not regenerate after you rescue
Timon). Approach the cliff and Ulysses calls for assistance. Now walk up onto
the platform to your right and jump up.
HUMAN VILLAGE PART 3: Follow the tunnel in front of you to an intersection and
turn right. You may have to fight a hyena in a room with a poker to the left,
but try to avoid it if you can. (Note: As you walk around this board keep the
poker you brought with you in your hand. Even though you kick the hyenas to
death, I have found that for some reason it takes less kicks to kill them while
you are holding the poker). Follow this tunnel to a clearing (you may have to
kill the hyena here) and enter the door across from you. Turn left immediately
after entering and follow the tunnel to a room with a ladder; (this is the
alternate location for the hyena in this area; if you waste time killing the
hyena in the poker room, the hyena will be here, if you don‘t it will be in the
clearing). Now climb the ladder to a raised walkway, you will have to kill an
ape here. On the wall on the opposite side of the walkway from where you
climbed up, you will see some markings on the wall, make a note of the blue
symbol it looks like this: (  ). Turn right and walk clockwise around the
walkway back to the ladder; pick up the medikit you see on the ground as you
approach the ladder. Climb down the ladder and exit the room you are in. Follow
the tunnel until you see a doorway to your right, then turn left and walk until
you arrive at an intersection; turn left. Follow this hall to a bamboo cage,
kill the hyena nearby. Open the cage using the wheel to the right of the door;
go inside and pick up the medikit on the ground. Exit and turn right; follow
the tunnel to a large courtyard. 1-2 hyenas patrol this courtyard, avoid
confrontation if you can. Bear to the left and enter the room you see before
you, and then look to the right at some faded markings on the wall. Approach
the markings and press Alt. A cut scene shows Ulysses clearing the markings.
Afterward, look at the wall and copy the red marking you see there, it’s the
one that looks like the symbol for pi. Exit this room and bear left, at the
next door to your left, look down the slope to your right and you will see a
medikit, pick it up if you need it, then head through this doorway. At the end
of a winding hall is a room with a campfire. Pick up the medikit in this room
then heat your poker in the fire as you did in Human Village Part 1. Return to
the courtyard and go to the steps directly across from you. At the top is a
pile of logs, light it with the poker. Reheat the poker and proceed down the
hall, past the bamboo cage and round the next corner. Stop here and look down
and to the left, you will see a pile of logs; light the logs. Continue
following the tunnel and go straight at the next intersection, eventually you
come to a clearing with a building to your left. You will have to kill two mean
hyenas here (they are tougher than normal hyenas and you may have to heal
during combat; open inventory and select then use kit with Alt). Afterward,
look to the right of where you entered and pick up the medikit on top of the
hill there. Head back to the last campfire you lit and reheat your poker.
Return to the building and enter it; on the floor to the right in the center of
the room is a pile of logs, light it. A switch has been revealed on the wall to
the left of the gate in this room. Use the switch and enter the gate. Turn left
and search the wall for the switch to close the gate and use it. Now proceed to
the table on the left side of the room from where you just entered. You will
see 3 blue urns, pick up the center urn “E” with the (  ) symbol on it. Now
approach the ledge directly opposite the gate from where you entered this room.
You will see two round pads on the ledge. Place the blue urn on the left pad
and it sinks into position. Go to the other table in this room and pick up the
red urn “B” on the right; it has the symbol for pi on it. Place it on the right
circle pad on the ledge and it too sinks into place. Go through the now open
door and follow the tunnel to a crypt. Approach the gravestone and press Alt to
read it. Now turn left and look at the wall; you will see a raised doorway.
Approach the wall and jump and climb up onto the ledge. Walk forward and the
stone rolls away, now enter and follow the tunnel.
THE CANYON: This isn’t a mission, just a cut scene where Ulysses discusses the
Ursus report with Nova’s brother. Ulysses decides to speak to Professor
Cornelius at the ape University.

UNIVERSITY PART 1: You start fully healed with only your medikits. Kill the ape
in this room. Go through the doorway across from where you entered this
mission. Head down the steps and through the door to the left. In the bathroom
approach the bulletin board next to the door you entered. Press “a” to take a
closer look. A number is displayed: 163. Exit the bathroom, exit the hall. Back
in the main room bear left and go up the steps. You will eventually have to
kill a guard in this area. Turn left at the top of the stairs, then turn left
again and approach the second videophone on the wall to your left. Press Alt
and enter 163 on the dialing screen. A female ape tells you to meet her in 5
minutes. Turn right from the phone and follow the winding hall before you
ignoring all doors and obstacles. You will have to kill a third guard in this
area. The hall dead ends and a door to your left opens, go through it. In the
ensuing cut scene the friendly ape gives you the code to the storeroom: 2536.
Exit this room, turn right and follow the hall all the way back to the steps.
Turn left at the steps and enter the lecture hall. Pick up the students notes
on the table to the right. Now exit and turn left follow the hall to a dead end
with two doors. Approach the control panel to the left of the door on the left.
Enter the code 2536. Now enter the room. Directly to your left is a medikit,
pick it up. Turn right and proceed to the back of the storage room. On a shelf
is a yellow ball of sulfur marked with an S. Pick it up and return to the
lecture hall. Enter the door on your left, go up onto the raised platform and
use the sulfur on the bucket of acid. A cut scene shows the emergency exit
being opened. Run out of the lecture room, head down the stairs ignoring the
guard who fires a laser gun at you; bear left and enter the emergency exit.
UNIVERSITY PART 2: Walk forward under machine arm, then turn right and face the
control panel beneath it. Activate panel with Alt. Move the laser at the window
to the left, aiming specifically at the hallway corner in the distance. Test
fire the gun several times (Alt) until you are targeting the correct position
and the glass weakens. Now wait for an ape guard to come around the corner in
the distance. Fire the gun until the window breaks and as you do, aim for the
ape guard so that at the moment the window breaks the laser will strike the
guard and kill him. Afterward exit the control panel and jump through the
window into the hall. Pick up the gun the guard dropped and turn left down the
hall. Enter the first door on your right, and then enter the first door on your
left. Go through the door in the back left corner of this room. Immediately to
your right is a medikit on a cabinet, pick it up and exit. Turn around and look
at the left side of the door you just exited; you will see an intercom;
approach it and press Alt. After the cut scene exit this room, turn right and
reenter the hall and bear to your right. You will see an ape scientist; kill
him before he reaches an alarm. Now enter the next door on your right (the one
the scientist came through). In front of you is a glass tube, to the left of it
is a control panel, use the control panel. After the cut scene with the tube,
turn right and enter the door you see there; Ulysses meets Professor Cornelius
in another cut scene. Afterward go straight out the door that just opened and
turn right, then turn right down the next hall and stop. In the distance
through a window on the left side of the hall you see a sleeping ape guard.
Approach that room and then crouch walk inside it. Walk behind the guard and
turn left behind the desk. Face the desk and stand up next to the swipe card.
Pick up the swipe card and crouch walk out of the room. In the hall, turn left
and approach the control panel to the right of the door, use the swipe card on
it to exit this mission.
MEETING MATHIAS PART 1: This is just a cut scene where Ulysses finds out that
the insurrection leader Jonah has been captured and he must be rescued.

ENTERING THE PRISON: This is a just a cut scene explaining how Ulysses entered
the prison.
THE PRISON: You start this mission fully healed with your remaining medikits.
Go through the door on your left, turn left in the hall and go through the next
door. Turn right in the room and then exit it through the door on your left. A
cut scene shows an ape guard in a glass enclosure. Enter the door on your right
and approach the control panel on the right where you see a red button and a
long meter. Press and hold Alt while standing in front of the red button and
the meter lights up. When it hits red the helmet breaks off the electric chair
in the other room. A cut scene shows the guard coming to investigate. When he
picks up the helmet press and hold Alt until the meter reaches the red bar,
then release Alt. Enter the room and go through the door in the back and climb
the steps to the control room. On a console to the right is a rewritable
magnetic card, take it and go all the way back to the room where you entered
this mission. All the way across the room is a keyboard with a slot next to it.
Approach it and use the card on the slot. During the cut scene you discover
Jonah is in Cell O1. Pick up the card and exit this room. Turn right and go to
the end of the hall, then head left down the steps. Go to the third cell on
your left and enter it, you will find a medikit on the bed to your right, take
it and exit. Turn left and approach Cell O1, (last door on the right). Use the
card on the panel to the right of the door; when the door opens enter the room
and approach Jonah. After the cut scene quickly carry Jonah up the stairs in
front of you and turn right. Enter the next door on your right and a cut scene
shows Ulysses saying goodbye to Jonah. After the explosion reenter the room and
proceed toward hole in the back left corner. Crouch walk through the hole.
MILITARY BASE: Drop down the hole to your left, turnaround and pick up the
screwdriver, then head down the tunnel to your left. At the end of the tunnel,
face the ledge on your left and jump and climb up to it. Approach the grate on
this ledge and press Alt twice to kick it open. Crouch walk through into the
hall and turn right. At the end of the hall go up the stairs to your left. At
the top of the steps approach the fuse box and use the screwdriver to open it.
Once open, use the screwdriver to tinker with the box and the red door to your
right pops open. Go through the door and follow the hall, soon a cut scene
shows apes pursuing you. Enter the door at the end of the hall and approach the
desk to your right. Open the right hand drawer and pick up the red pass. Now
stand to the left of the door you just came through, crouch and look into the
hall and watch the apes. When they are far enough away and have their backs to
you crouch walk out of the room and head left. Once you are a short distance
down the hall, stand and run the rest of the way. Follow the hall and enter the
second door on the right. Go through the hole in the wall on the right and go
and stand on a mound of rubble facing the wall directly opposite the hole. Jump
and climb up into the ceiling. Go to your right and crouch walk through into
the next room and drop down the hole there. In this room approach the cabinet’s
left side and press and hold Alt while walking backwards in order to move it.
Go through the hole behind the cabinet and crouch walk down the hall. Turn
right in the next hall and approach the slot to the right of the door, use the
pass and then enter the room you just opened. To the right on the wall is a
switch, to the left of the switch are two cables, approach and reconnect them,
then use the switch. A cut scene shows the floor opening. Drop gently down onto
the crates in the room below. In this room is another switch next to a panel
with two yellow arrows, use the switch to view a cut scene where the floor is
raised. Climb all the way up the crates to your left and face the closest wall.
Jump and climb up to the next floor and then climb the ladder in front of you.
Step off the ladder to the ledge on the left and follow the path until you see
a red button on a gray panel, use the button to turn the fan on. Turn around
and walk off the jutting ramp into the wind created by the fan. After the
floating cut scene, press the up arrow key to climb across the grating until
you are above solid ground, then drop by pressing Alt. Turn right and walk
clockwise around the hall, exit the first door you see. In this hall turn left
and take the medikit sitting on some rubble, turn around and use the door to
your left to leave this mission.
MEETING MATHIAS PART 2: This is just a cut scene. His friends don’t react well
to the news of Jonah’s death, but Ulysses decides to carry on the fight.

UNDERGROUND FACTORY: You start this mission fully healed with only your
medikits. Kill the guard in this hall and take his club. At the end of the hall
go through the door and then straight through the door in the next room. In the
following hall take your first right and you will see a cut scene with a giant
pointless smashing device (every factory needs one of these apparently). Stand
on the slab in front of the smasher and when it starts to rise after crashing
run across to the ladder you can see to the far left corner. Climb the ladder
and step off on the platform to the left; you can hide behind the cart to your
right. Watch the apes in this area; you will have to kill both. Look for an
opportunity when they are far apart from one another. Afterward go to the four
post metal structure in this room and look around it, you will see a medikit on
the floor. Now turn around and run straight, then drop into the hole before
you. To the right is another medikit, grab it and head straight for the wall
behind it. Jump and climb up onto the smooth gray ledge and then follow the
wall to your right until you find a hole. Pass through the hole into a hall and
bear right. In the intersection of the hall you may have to fight some rats,
but usually you can avoid them by staying closer to the side of the hall where
you entered this area. In the room to the right pick up the crowbar, then turn
around, head back straight through the hall and follow it to a storage room
where a guard sits on a crate.  Crouch walk to the far right corner of the
room, turn and face the guard, then shoot him to death with the laser gun. To
the right of where he fell you can pick up a medikit. Now approach the box in
front of the crate where the guard was sitting (it is dark gray with a lid) and
open it with the crowbar. Take the explosive inside and head back to the
platform above the smasher. Instead of going down the ladder you can approach
the right side of the platform, wait for the smasher to rise and jump down
while pressing right to enter the walkway in front of the smasher and exit this
room. Turn left and go straight through two doors, turn left again and climb
the ladder against the wall to the left. At the top step off to the right and
drop down the other side of the platform where there is another ladder. Enter
the door on your left and then climb the ladder on the wall to your right; step
off to the left at the top of the platform and follow it around counter
clockwise to the first pipe you spot. Face the pipe and use (Alt) the explosive
to drop it in.  A cut scene shows the machine blowing up. Now head back to the
edge of the platform next to the ladder and crouch and look around. Two guards
enter to search the area; wait for them both to exit through the door they came
in from, then climb down the ladder and retrace your steps to the smasher room.
The smasher has stopped its crashing so head for the grate on the right side of
the room. Approach it and press Alt twice to kick it in. Crouch walk through it
to the next cut scene.
ARCHIVES PART 1: This is actually a continuation of the mission set started
with Underground Factory, thus you start with your medikits and weapons from
the last mission, and you have not been healed.  Ignore the door up and to the
left and instead head straight down the hall and follow the path to the right,
then up the stairs to a storage room with a mirror and sink on the right and
can of poison on a shelf in front of you. Approach and pick up the poison, then
reverse directions and go back to the room you passed by. Crouch and look from
the right side of this door and eventually you will spot an ape patrol.  Wait
for him to turn walk away to your left, then enter the room and shoot him in
the back until he is dead; take the plasma rifle he drops. In the back left
corner of this room in front of you is a camera, to spot it approach the corner
in front of you, crouch and look around it towards the ceiling. Wait for the
camera to move fully away from you, and then run up underneath it. Watch it by
pressing “a” and looking upward; eventually it turns all the way back to the
left. Now RUN VERY FAST to the large cabinet to the right of the door opposite
the camera and face it. Jump and climb up on top of it, then face the wall to
the left and jump and climb up on to the railing above you. Jump down off the
railing into the raised hallway, turn right and take the door on the left at
the end of the hall. You will see a cleaning robot scooting along the floor.
Wait for it to enter the room across from you, and then follow it in. Approach
the robot and use the poison on it. In this room is a control panel, enter the
door to the right of the control panel. To the left and front of you is a
ladder, to the left of it is a grate, approach the grate and press Alt twice to
kick it in. Crouch walk through the hole and crouch on the other side. Now
crouch walk to the door on your left without standing up and exit this room.
Before entering the hall, while you are crouched in the doorway, look up and to
the right at the ceiling, you will see a camera. Wait for it to look the other
way, then crouch walk into the hall away from the door and run back to the room
where you saw the control panel. Use the control panel to take control of the
robot, maneuver him through the halls to the security room with three apes (the
one you just infiltrated). Have the robot approach the apes, then hold the Alt
key and it will spray poison on them; when all three have dropped dead release
Alt and exit the control panel. Head back to the room where the apes were
sprayed and turn left down the hall in front of it. A cut scene shows an ape
cross the hall and enter a color code. The code is: Light Blue, Orange, Red,
Dark Blue, Light Blue. Approach that door’s control panel and enter the code.
Enter the room and kill the ape there. Head straight and turn right beside the
computer, follow the path to a bulletin board and read it by pressing the “a”
key. Write down the number: 25789. Now go back to the recycling bin next to the
computer and press Alt in front of it to pick up a magnetic pass. Insert the
pass in the slot to the left of the computer then use the keyboard. Select
“Change Pass Access”, then enter the code 25789 and select v, select format and
wait a moment, then select “Level 1 to 3”. Pick up the magnetic card and return
to the ladder beside the grate you kicked in. Climb the ladder and step off it
to the left. On this ledge is another grate, press Alt twice to kick it in and
crouch walk into the hall. Enter the door on your left and look at the floor
directly to the right of where you enter, grab the medikit and exit. Follow the
hall to the left and approach the control panel to the right of the door, use
the magnetic card on the panel to exit this mission.
ARCHIVES PART 2: Wait for the camera you spotted in the cut scene to look away,
then run and get directly under it. When it looks to the right, run down the
steps and turn right, beat up the scientist in this room. Go through the door
next to the desk and bear left. In this room is a very large desk, on it is a
library card, pick it up. Head for the door opposite the desk and crouch and
look through, you will see a camera on the opposite side of the room you are
peeking into. When it looks to the left, run into the room and bear to the
right, go through the door in front of you. Approach the man in the courtyard
and watch the cut scene. Now go through the blue door on your left. In this
hall turn right, then follow the path left. You will see a window above you
with an ape beating on a human on the other side. Climb up the steps to the
left of the window and kill the ape in this room. Watch the cut scene where the
female offers to help you. Now turn around and look right, you will see a desk
and a medikit, grab it and exit the door opposite the desk. Turn left and enter
the library. A ball of paper is thrown down from above, pick it up and press
Alt to read it. Go to the far left corner of this room and press the red button
on the computer terminal there. Now turn around, up ahead on your right is a
multimedia dispenser with a cartridge in it. Approach and pick up the
cartridge. Turn left and then walk down the steps to the right. Approach the
access panel of the door in the far left corner of this room (it has a green
light above it) and use the library card to open it. Enter this room and
approach the projector on the left. Use the Professor Skouk cartridge in the
projector to watch a funny slide show. Funny? Really? No, not really. Exit this
room, and go up the steps. Turn right and exit the library through the door on
your left. Bear left in this room, pass the desk, and then exit this room
through the last door on the right. Turn right and cross to the corner beside
the steps. Crouch and look around at the camera above the steps. When it isn’t
looking run to the door across from you; when the tapping starts you will be
able to enter this room. Across the room is a plant, approach it and press Alt
to retrieve the elevator pass. Turn left and use the pass on the slot to the
right of the elevator to exit.
ARCHIVE PART 3: This is probably the most difficult mission of the game, its
all smooth sailing after this. Approach the door to your right, then crouch
walk through into the next room and go right up the stairs to the first
landing. Approach the corner of the stairs to the left and crouch and look
upstairs at the ceiling, you will spot a camera. Avoiding the camera, quickly
climb the stairs and enter the door behind the camera. Pick up the three
grenades on a shelf to your right, and then pick up the medikit on the floor to
the left of the shelf. Exit this room the way you came in and go back
downstairs (carefully avoid the camera again). At the bottom of the stairs
cross to the doorway on the opposite side of the room and go through; turn left
and you will see 2 doors. Crouch walk toward the door on the right and look in,
you will see apes moving about. When they are clear of the door, crouch walk
through the door on the opposite side of the hall. Now listen up: Your goal is
to throw up to 3 grenades into the ape filled room to kill as many of the
beings inside it as possible (there are 4 total). The correct way to do this is
explained by several rules: 1) To throw a grenade into the room successfully,
crouch walk from the room you are hiding in to halfway across the hall, stand
and throw a grenade in, then crouch walk backwards into your hiding room and
wait for an explosion. 2) Do not attempt this if an ape is looking in your
direction because you might be spotted. 3) Try to wait for the apes to be on
the left side of the room but not in the doorway. 4) After each blast count the
number of thumps you hear, this will tell you how many apes you have killed. 5)
An alarm may sound the first time you throw the grenade and guards will come
running in and search the room; stay hidden in the room opposite the control
room and wait for everyone to return to their normal places (guards leave). 6)
When you are out of grenades you must rush into the room and kill any remaining
apes before they sound an alarm. 7) There is a great kill zone in the control
room if you have more than one ape to kill and one has a gun. To utilize it run
into the room and head up the steps and around behind the railing, the apes get
trapped on the ground floor. The ape with the gun will stand back and fire
endless rounds into the railing, murdering any ape who gets in front of him
without you having to do any work (this proves that the enemy has no ammo
limit). Maneuver slightly on the platform to keep the apes moving in front of
their friendly fire. You can also shoot apes from this vantage point without
them reaching you. Good luck. Once you have cleared this room approach the
control station next to the door on the ground floor and use it. Maneuver the
camera to view the room and press Alt to change the lighting and discover the
secret path. Keep moving the camera until Ulysses says “Ok”. Exit the screen
and approach the main computer on the raised platform, use it by pressing Alt.
You are now in control of a machine gun. Aim at the hand print panels on the
two doors in the machine gun room and press Alt to fire and destroy them. After
they are destroyed the doors pop open. When both are open exit the screen.
Approach and use the red switch (to the right) on the console to deactivate the
security system. Now go upstairs and turn left at the camera. Follow the hall
and enter the machine gun room at the end of it. Enter the door to the left and
look left. The floor here is wired to an alarm. When you approach it you are
given a map of the safe route across (look at upper right corner of screen) and
your view changes to make crossing the floor easier. Follow the path of squares
on the floor correlating to the bright squares on the map. Be very careful not
to deviate an inch or you will trigger an alarm. On the other side climb down
the ladder to your right. In the bottom room turn around and head straight,
then stop halfway across the room and look to your right. Use the thermostat;
set it to 0 degrees Celsius and press Alt. A cut scene shows the defense system
deactivating. Turn around and enter the glass booth forward and to your right.
Approach the REBOOT monitor and pick up the door code scanner in front of it.
Now exit the booth and then exit the thermostat room via the door to the left
of the thermostat, (use the red switch to the right of the door to open it).
Head upstairs and turn right when you enter the machine gun room. Follow this
hall to two security doors. Approach the control panel of the door on the right
and use the scanner on it. When the door opens head back to the thermostat room
and set the thermostat to 0. Now RUN all the way back to the room you opened
with the door code scanner and enter it. To the left is a pedestal with the
silver part sitting on it, pick up the silver part and switch to your preferred
weapon. Turn around and cross the room to the door on the other side. At this
point an elite guard rushes in, kill it. Use the red switch to the right of the
door to open it, and then enter the room beyond. Against the wall in front of
you and to the left is a railing and a ladder. Climb down the ladder. On the
next landing you will have to climb done another ladder to reach the ground
floor. Approach the red switch next to the main door on the ground floor and
use it to exit this door and this mission.
MEETING MATHIAS PART 3: This is another cut scene, not a mission. The three
mystery parts are united and you discover it is time to go to the “forbidden
place”.

THE STATUE OF LIBERTY:  You start with nothing, but you are totally healed.
Head straight and drop down the hole in front of you. Head down the path to
your right and make a right turn. Go through door, turn left and drop down the
ledge; enter the water to your right. Dive and swim to the bottom of chamber;
the path you want to take next is the second to the right from where you
entered the water. Follow the tunnel for quite some distance and you will
emerge beside a door to your left. Go through the door. In the next room head
to the antechamber on your left and look around, you will see 4 pump controls
lined up in a row. Approach each and press Alt; afterward an explosive cut
scene shows the results of your mischief. Now return to the platform where you
entered the water. Across from you is a ladder, climb up and then step off to
the left. Floating somewhere on this raised platform is a protection robot, try
to stay some distance away and keep out of its line of sight. The robot orbs do
little damage and are easy to out run. They return to their starting positions
when they lose sight of you. Go to the opposite side of the room from where you
first entered this chamber and enter the red door. Proceed to the end of the
tunnel and turn left. Pass through the security and a crouch and look into the
Control Center beyond. When the orb is floating away from you run clockwise up
the ramp to your immediate left upon entering the room. Your goal is to reach
the raised platform on the opposite side of the room, where there are 3
consoles. Approach the largest console and press Alt while standing in front of
its control panel. To the left of you a red door opens and an orb activates and
enters it. Crouch and wait by the opening from which you viewed the orb. When
it exits, check the positions of the orbs (use the Audiometer if you can’t see
them both), and run through that door you have been watching. At the end of the
hall turn right, then head behind the counter and go through the door on your
left. In this room on the right side of a table is a briefcase, open it and get
the security card. Go through the door behind the table. Look to the right and
pick up the sniper rifle in its case. Turn around and look to the far right
corner of the room; pick up the medikit you spot. Now return to the counter
room and stand behind the counter while facing the door. When the orb floats
through take aim with your sniper rifle and shoot it through the eyepiece.
(There are no red and green crosshairs for the sniper rifle). Exit to the
Control Center, circle clockwise around the room (avoid or kill the orb) and
exit through the raised door exactly opposite from the door to the counter
room. Walk forward and drop down into the hall beneath you. In front of you is
a ramp. You must run up this ramp and jump to the far side of the room where
you see a red door. Pass through the door and bear right, jump the chasm (avoid
or kill the orb), then enter the door on your right. Go to the end of the hall
in front of you and turn right. Approach the control panel to the right of the
door and use the security card to exit this mission.
PENTAGON PART 2: Start this mission by following the hallway to your right,
ignoring all doors and steps until you see two computer screens on your left at
a dead end. Enter the doorway nearby. Proceed down the steps, (be careful to
stay close to wall on right since there are no handrails to the left), and
enter the first door you spot. Turn left and go through the door to a room with
an audio control panel. To the left of it is the Accreditation card, pick it
up. Arm yourself with the sniper rifle and enter the door to the left of the
audio control panel. Kill the orb in this room and go through the two sliding
doors on the left. You will have to kill an orb in this area. Turn left and
head all the way to the end of the hall, then turn right and enter the first
door on your left. Next to the center of the left wall, on the floor, is a
medikit, pick it up. (If you want to you can climb the steps in this room and
find a rifle to change to your primary weapon; though it is harder to kill the
orbs with it). Exit room and turn left, follow hall to second door on left and
enter room. Climb the steps in this room and approach the desk at the top. Open
the right desk drawer and take the Micro recorder. Return to the audio control
panel. With the recorder in your hand, face the panel and press Alt to start
the playback, and Alt again to start recording. After a moment shut of both by
press Alt. Now return to the top floor and bear all the way to the left,
ignoring all doors and obstacles (watch for another orb). Eventually you will
spot a staircase in front of you at a dead end. Climb the stairs and enter the
room. Approach the keyboard across from you to the left and press Alt. Now go
to the microphone to your right and use the Micro recorder. A cut scene gives
more detail into the strange story of humanity’s plight. Now return to the long
staircase by the 2 computer screens and this time go all the way to the ground
floor. To the left is a red control panel beside a door; use the Accreditation
card to leave this mission.
PENTAGON PART 3: Follow the long hallway to an open room. Go through the door
on the right; head down the steps, then down the next set of steps to the right
and enter the door there. In the circular room bear left and go through the
door on the left. At the end of the hall go behind the desk to your right, pick
up the note and read it. Remember to look for the “Date of Birth”. Enter the
door opposite the desk. Head to the opposite side of the room and open the
freezing cabinet by pressing the red button to the left of its door. Pick up
the syringe. Open your inventory and look at the syringe, note the year of
birth: 2278. Now turn left and look at the open medical pod, pick up the
medikit sitting in it. Now return to the circular room, approach a DNA scanner
and use the syringe on it. A cut scene shows Ulysses on an elevator. Afterward
approach the torch behind you on your right and pull it (Alt), a secret panel
opens. Enter the code 2278 into the panel, and the poison gas clears. Approach
the President’s desk and pick up the hologram cartridge. A cut scene provides
you with a way to the Ark project. Enter the recently opened door on the wall
to the President’s left. Bear left up the ramp immediately upon entering this
room. Turn right at the computers and head into the glass room beyond. A cut
scene reveals a red button. Approach and press the button. Yet another cut
scene tells you that the self-destruct sequence has begun. Afterward, bear left
and use the elevator. Head straight through the door, climb the steps, then go
up the steps to the left and through the door at the top. Head straight across
the open room and drop down a ledge. You will see an orb on the floor, approach
it and press Alt to pick up the magnetic connector. Approach the glowing purple
gate in this same room and use the connector on it. Go through and cross the
bridge to the massive door. Open your inventory, press the left arrow to see
your secondary inventory, select the cube and press Alt to put it in your hand.
Approach the black square on the door and press Alt to use the cube on the
square. The cut scene that follows is long and complex.
THE ENCOUNTER: Ulysses meets the underground dwelling humans and learns of the
origin of the prophecy of deliverance from ape dominance. Ponder this during
the cut scene: Isn’t that ball Ulysses traveled in a little small to transport
10,000 people to the center of the Earth?

BACK TO THE MONASTERY: Just a cut scene where Ulysses learns Nova has been
captured, finds out the President’s sob story, and decides to bring down
General Ursus.
ENTERING THE APE PALACE: Go behind the desk in front of you and pick up the
laser sniper rifle (this is the best weapon in the game, use it wisely; unlike
the normal sniper rifle this one’s crosshairs light up over a valid target in
range) and the medikit. Turn around and head up the steps on the left, then
through the door in the left wall. Crouch walk past the guard to the top of the
steps, and then turn right. Head for the door with barred windows. Open it with
the control panel to its right. There are two apes to kill in the garden
courtyard, one has a laser rifle. From the now open barred-window door enter
the first door on your right. In the small room beyond enter the door on your
right. In the kitchen, on a raised platform to the left is a medikit (under the
counter to the right as you walk up to the platform) and a knife (on the
counter directly behind the pots), pick up both and return to the garden. Head
for the very tall tree in the middle of the garden; next to it is a medikit,
take it. Now head for the back wall of the garden where there are three flags,
go to the right and you will see a crank on the floor, take it. QUICKLY turn
around and RUN left; follow the wall on the left until you see creeping vines
and press through them into a hidden passage. Around this time you will see a
cut scene of a security room, keep this room in mind. RUN to the gate down the
hidden passage and use the crank on the panel to its right. Go through the gate
and open the door beyond it using the panel to its left. Crouch and look into
this hall, to the left is the security door, to the right (if you moved very
fast) are the two ape guards you spotted in the cut scene. Enter the hall and
kill them both. One drops an access card. Pick it up. If you were too slow the
guards enter the door to the right of where you just entered; follow them into
the grand hallway and kill them there instead (sometimes a scientist ape
patrols this hall so you will have to kill him too). Either way, after the
battle use the access card to open the security door. Now enter the Grand Hall
(through large doorway opposite the security door) and turn right. Run across
to the doorway on the left and go through into a long hall. You will have to
kill a scientist ape here and a guard with a laser gun. Go to the second door
and the right and enter the library. Approach the bookshelf. To the left of
center is a red book jutting from the shelf, press Alt while in front of the
book. Enter the secret room you just revealed and pick up the red scanning
unlock key on the shelf in front of you, then turn right and pick up the
medikit on the floor. Return to the security room and enter it, approach the
first console on the left and use the scanning unlock key on it. A cut scene
shows the lasers deactivating. Run back to the long hall, go past the library
and straight into the round-shaped corridor; you enter a room with a tall tree.
To the right, up the stairs, is a hard-to-kill guard, use whatever ammo you
have left to do some damage to him, then approach and kill him if he hasn’t
gone down. Climb the steps to the massive door and use the control panel to the
right of the door to enter the Council Chamber. You have won the game.
