1. Legal Stuff: -
Plagiarizers, rip-offers, copycats etc etc. This special
"segment" in my FAQ is especially for you guys. Aren't you glad?
Anyway, all I have to say is that you better not steal, rip,
copy, tear etc etc my FAQ or I'll rip and tear you apart somehow
.. You DON'T want to know. Do your own hard work and leave us
writers alone. Got it? HUH? DO I make myself clear to you or do
you understand English? If so or not ... I don't care. I have
already written everything in this small message for you. You
should copy and memorize this in your head. Rip this little
message and paste it all over where ever you want. But ONLY this
message.
NOTE to Webmasters and others: If you want to paste this FAQ on
your website or homepage just ask.
NOTE to CjayC: HEY! My e-mail has changed. I have got two now.

2. From the author: -
My apologies to all you guys who e-mailed me and didn't get a
reply. My e-mail on Gamefaqs is WRONG or rather is changed (heh
heh). Sorry! Anyway, now I have made two e-mail accounts and one
of them is on hotmail, so no matter what the hell you will at
least get a reply from my hotmail account. I always check my ISP
account first, so if you don't get a reply in two days than one
of the following is possible:
1. My Internet account is closed.
2. I have gone somewhere and will never come back (just
kidding).
3. I have lost my memory and have forgotten my passwords
(it'll never happen).

3. Versions: -
7/27/01 7:03 PM
1st version: I just started the damn thing. It's about to be 9:
00 PM and it's way past my bedtime ... Hahahahaha. OK! Enough of
the jokes. I have only written what I have written up till right
NOW and a little bit more. There will be a huge update or just a
second ... I haven't even mailed this to Gamefaqs. I'll add lots of
things tomorrow.
7/28/01 5:32 AM
I have ended the game. I have never seen credits like these.
Overall I don't think it was a bad game after all. I may probably
finish the FAQ today. I have written up till the "items" section.
7/29/01 9:45 AM
2nd version: Corrected the dates. Sent the FAQ to Gamefaqs.
Completed the FAQ!!! Sending to GameFaqs again today. May update
for corrections.
7/31/01 7:52 PM
3rd version: Weird! Gamefaqs doesn't post my FAQ! Did some
formatting and removed the ASCII art. Maybe that was the problem.
Guess I'll send this FAQ again.
8/8/01 12:08 PM
4th version: Formatted it. Changed the fonts.
8/12/01 12:50 AM
5th version: Did some editing. Added psxcodez to the list of
sites having my FAQ.

4. Game Review: -
Those of you who know me or rather remember me will know that I
always write the review of the game I am writing something about
(walkthrough, FAQ etc). It always lets the gamer know what he is
buying and whether it will be worth his/her money. So why not
read the review on a website or something? A website is quite
convenient than this old plain text. Maybe, but at least I won't
be biased. At least I won't tell you that the game sucks or it's
great (because I played it). At least I have played the game well
over 5 minutes (I have ended the game, it took me over 17 hours)
and can give a clear-cut review. At least I don't give stars
(only trash websites give that anyway). Now I'll get on with the
review.
Technomage is made by a Danish (Not sure) and possibly a PC
developing team if I am not mistaken. In any case Sunflowers
developed it. It is an action rpg like Alundra 2 or Threads of
Fate. However it reminds me of Diablo. The small character, lot's
of monsters (mostly undead ) etc. Thankfully Melvin (the game's
hero) isn't THAT small (he is dwarfed though). Even the menu is
VERY VERY PC-ish.
Gameplay: -
There are lots of puzzles (some are good, some are ridiculous and
sometimes you don't even have a clue on what to do) and Melvin
fights a lot too. By solving puzzles and beating enemies he gains
exp. and when it reaches 100, a point is given automatically to
each stat category i.e. Strength, Intelligence (Mana),
Constitution (HP) and Mysticism and two points can be distributed
manually as well. This is called a Top-up (normally called a
Level-up in rpgs). You can save and load the game any time
(except special occasions like during a boss battle where the
game prompts you to save your game before) and you also have a
quest log and an auto map that can be accessed through L1 and R1
respectively and also in the main menu.
In battle it may look pretty easy to beat the monsters, however
it's not easy all the time. You have to time your swings or
strikes and if you miss them than the monster is likely to attack
you. There are also only a number of selected weapons, tools,
spells etc you can get in this game.
Graphics: -
No! Not too good. Again very PC-ish and weird type of graphics.
The CG is not bad, however the character design just ruins it
all. Picture this, a normal 5 foot 11 inches guy has been dwarfed
and he's your hero. The developers just tried to copy the FF
style, which has been a flaming failure.
The game doesn't look dull though. A lot of colors have been used
and it looks nice i.e. the background looks nice. This game is in
3-D but it could have been a hell lot better because I have seen
2-D games better than this.
Sound: -
There are voice-overs in this game! That's pretty cool ... right?
Well ... not exactly. Only two or three characters had good voice
acting but the rest including your hero has got the most poorest
voices I have ever seen.
"Oooooh! What ever am I going to do nooooow?"
The sound is average and just bearable in this game. Lot's of
things make similar or rather same kinds of noises. I swear I
first believed that the game didn't have music! Than I cranked up
the volume and voila there was some sort of weird instruments
banging their heads in. I switched the volume down.
Story: -
It's too plain. I'm not going to spoil anything but (POSSILE
SPOILER) you are a unique guy and people believe you bring bad
luck. Than you go away, adventures await you (so does your
father) and there is a girl too (that's just like you), she sort
of joins you and you want of find out what's going on and Save
the World like every little twit in every little game does ... but
not a bad attempt. I mean c'mon, this isn't Square or Capcom you
know.
Replayability: -
Why would you play the game all over again? There are no secrets
or even side quests in this game. The game just leads you to
either a town, a dungeon, a maze etc. No replayability. However
the game will keep you busy for over or under 16 hours, depending
on how quickly or slowly you play the game.
Overall: -
After all the bad things I have written about this game, a guy
must be truly insane to play this game. And maybe I am. I don't
understand but I wanted to end this game as quickly as possible.
Something made me play the game and ignore its bad points.
Believe me it works. I never felt like NOT playing the game or I
am forcing myself to play it. I guess I can say that maybe you
could give the game a little chance. Rent the damn thing or play
it at your friend's house. If you like PC games this maybe a
little bit different for you and you may like it.
This rpg is like a console and PC rpg mixed into a blender and
served it in front of you. This could be a totally different exp.
for you but that's where it all ends. That's how the ball roles,
that's how the cookie crum ...
Marks: -
1. Gameplay:7.5
2. Graphics:7.0
3. Sound:6.1
4. Story:6.9
5. Replayabilty:7.5
6. Overall:35/50(Fair Game)

5. Hints and Tips: -
It would be better to either read the manual or these hints and
tips before you venture into the world of Technomage. These tips
could just save your life out there.
1. Always talk with people and listen to what they have
to say. Not every thing you have to do will be in
your quest log.
2. Always save your game when you are uncertain on what
you are going to do next or when you are low on life.
3. You can save anywhere and load the game anytime. Make
full use of this feature.
4. Always equip your best weapon.
5. Some weaker spells are better than most strong spells
e.g. using a freeze spell will freeze your opponents
giving you valuable time to attack or flee and it
will also use less mana.
6. You don't need to stock up in this game unless you
are extremely LOW on healing items. PROOF: In a three
hour dungeon I managed to stock up over 80 healing
potions (also used a couple of them too).
7. Use torches in dark places, you are bound to miss a
switch or something without them.
8. Save gold for items like Strength cubes, Intelligence
cubes etc. By using these items you can permanently
increase your stats.
9. Break crates to pick up all kinds of goodies.
10. Notice all push and pull crates (the game will tell
which ones you can push and break).
11. The puzzles in this game stink. I only know of one,
which made the best of sense, and I was actually
impressed a little. If you simply cannot figure out
how to solve a puzzle consider going into this site:
http://www.technomage.de/english/index.html
12. If you see monsters close to a door or something and
you can't open the door, than start attacking the
door. Your swings and strikes will hurt the monsters
and they will die.
13. There is a tool "bomb" in this game. It is infinite
and you can use this to hurt monsters too.
14. Bombs are also used to break down walls etc.
15. Another tool "radar" is also extremely useful. By
using it you can see monsters (red dot on radar) and
even treasures (green dot on radar). Very useful.
16. Always try to solve all your quests that are written
in your quest log, mainly because of two things. One,
you HAVE to do them, two, you will get gold and other
items.
17. Use long-range weapons against those monsters that
throw rocks, arrows at you.
18. The freeze spell is extremely useful. USE IT! It
works against everybody except bosses. Also when you
hit a frozen monster, it gets a critical hit that may
outright kill him (if you are very strong).
19. Whenever you get a top-up (Level up, exp. reaches
100) give one of the two points to Mysticism. The
more Mysticism the better. You'll know by checking
your menu.
20. Do not use items like Large Healing Potion and Large
Mana Potion. NEVER use the extremely rare and
expensive Large Combined Potion. Save it for the last
boss of the game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

6. Misc. things: -
a) Weapons
There are only 8 kinds of weapons in this game. That's pretty sad
but I think the game leads you directly to a weapon. Meaning that
you cannot miss any weapon in this game. Here are the weapons and
their locations:
1. Dagger: -
Location: Uncle Rissen's house.
Information: It's a weakling this. Poor range, poor attack. What
can you expect from your first weapon in any game.
2. Sword: -
Location: The shed Baras' is guarding in Steamertown.
Information: Not a bad weapon. Has better range and attack than
the dagger. You will be using this a lot. Trust me.
3. War Mace: -
Location: Area "Fredo" in the Hive.
Information: You don't swing this weapon. You sort of strike it
vertically. Get it? Range I think is on par with the sword.
Better attack though.
4. Bow: -
Location: You can get this made from a tree outside Jelon (the
fairy village). You should have a special branch that you get by
solving a quest of some fairy in Tsa Jelon.
Information: Long-range weapon. It's a good weapon to knock
flying and other monsters. Very poor attack though so you'll have
to carry a lot of arrows.
5. Fire and Aqua Arrows: -
Location: You'll get these from enemies and other places later on
in the game.
Information: You use them with the bow (what else!). Better
attack than normal arrows. However I think he aqua arrows are
better because their cost is higher than the fire arrows. BTW use
aqua arrows against fire creatures and vice-versa.
6. Hammer: -
Location: In the canyon (you'll know where).
Information: Better than the mace in every way.
7. Axe: -
Location: From your friend Fredo (the guy you saved in the Hive)
in Shactown.
Information: The best weapon? This? Well I guess so. It's got the
best attack and range. That's it.
TIP FOR WEAPONS: When your mystic reaches 21, you will be able to
charge your weapon by holding "Square" and release it to damage
your surrounding enemies.
b) Spells
There are 7 spells. The visuals are OK. But I have got some
personal favorites.
1. Fireball.
Location: From your (Melvin's) Granny in Steamertown.
Information: Your first spell naturally. It's ok. You'll be using
this in puzzle solving most of the time. HOWEVER, it can be
effective when you have a lot of mana and you are facing a boss.
By using this you may find that you are doing more damage and
using less mana points.
2. Ice Claw.
Location: From Fredo in the Hive.
Information: Extremely useful. Effective against almost all
enemies but useless against bosses. This spell freezes your
enemy, giving you valuable time to either escape, attack, go into
a good position to attack etc. My favorite magic spell.
3. Viper's Vortex.
Location: From Gwen in the Fairy Forest.
Information: A tornado rips through hordes of monsters. Hits most
enemies. Useful at times.
4. Meteor Storm.
Location: In a canyon where you fight Stone Guardians.
Information: Yeah it's useful against bosses and enemies.
5. Lightning.
Location: You'll get this in the Tower.
Information: Pooh! Pooh! Pooh! What-a-ridiculous spell. I hate
it. I may have used it three times. Poor attack.
6. Magic Battle Shield.
Location: In the Volcano.
Information: Useful against enemies who use spells against you.
BTW you have to use this in one of your puzzles or rather tests
(Hint!).
7. Earthquake.
Location: In a dungeon (late in the game).
Information: Useful against lots of monsters. It's a nice spell.
Has nice attack too. Will kill very nearby monsters and will hurt
other monsters too.
TIP FOR MAGIC: When your mystic reaches 7, your mana will
automatically increase. Extremely useful.
c) Defense Equipment
The defense equipment isn't your usual chain mail etc. Find out
yourself. 8 defense equipments.
1. Ankh Amulet.
Location: In the Crypt.
Information: You only find this useful only once. That's it! You
use it to see ghosts. BTW, even though there are ghosts you can't
see later in the game, if you equip this they don't become
visible (ooooohhhhh).
2. Ring of Life.
Location: You get this from the mayor in Steamertown.
Information: Very useful. It hastens regeneration (???) and
treats poisoning. Somehow I like it.
3. Magic Amulet.
Location: From Dahlia, in the Inner Forest.
Information: It improves the spells' attack.
4. Chain mail.
Location: From fairies (in the clearing I think), after defeating
the river monster.
Information: Reduces damage from physical attacks.
5. Stoneskin belt.
Location: From your (Melvin's) "girlfriend", canyon.
Information: Reduces damage from fire attacks.
6. Merlin's Cape.
Location: From Bullyforth (sheeesh! What a name!) in the Snow
world.
Information: Reduces damage from magic attacks.
7. Experience amulet.
Location: From Trade Master in Shactown.
Information: Raises hit frequency. I seriously don't know what
the hell this is.
8. Gloves of Dexterity.
Location: From Talis, before going inside the Temple.
Information: Increases accuracy of your weapons. I don't think it
actually works.
d) Tools
Only 4 tools. All of them are useful and have to be used (except
Radar).
1. Bomb.
Location: From Mel's father in the Hive.
Information: It's uses are to destroy walls etc. Can also be used
as a time-bomb to hurt monsters. Deals little damage though but
FUN!
2. Radar.
Location: From druidess Duna in the fairy forest.
Information: VERY USEFUL. Tracks down enemies (red dot),
treasures (green dot) and by using this you can also find out
where those pesky ghosts are.
3. Speed Boots.
Location: From fairies after winning beetle race.
Information: Without this some of your puzzles would have been
impossible to solve. One very scary thing about this game is that
YOU CANNOT RUN. Use this to quicken your pace up a bit.
4. Grappling hook.
Location: From Dagomar in the canyon region.
Information: Use this on bollards to go from one ledge to
another.
e) Items
I will only be covering the items that you will use during battle
etc and not puzzle items. You are free to ask me about the game's
other items however.
1. Small Healing Potion.
Information: This potion partially heals you and is cheap to buy.
Believe me you don't need to buy these. I cranked 80 of these
items in a 3-hour dungeon by searching the place like mad.
2. Chalk.
Information: I only found this useful only once and that too was
not in a maze or anything. Don't buy these too. You'll get a lot
of these in dungeons as well.
3. Torches.
Information: Yeah! You'll be using these a lot too. But you will
also be finding these in blah blah blah. These torches light
themselves up (you can turn them off) and after sum time they
will run out and you will use a new one ... automatically. Plus you
won't know whether you have used a torch or not.
4. Anti-Venom Potion.
Information: Treats poisoning. Meaning that it's not a simple
antidote that will guarantee your poison to be removed. It's not
that useful.
5. Anti-Venom Herb.
Information: It completely cures poisoning. BTW, in extreme cases
you may actually need to use two of these. Useful. Carry some of
them in your rucksack at all times.
6. Small Mana Potion.
Information: This potion recovers some of your lost mana. You
won't be using these TOO many times as after you get a 7 points
in Mysticism, you will automatically regain mana.
7. Combined Potion.
Information: These replenish both health and mana. Very useful
but don't buy these as I cranked up 90 of these during the whole
game excluding the ones I used.
8. Large Healing Potion.
Information: Completely heals you. I got only 24 during the
entire game. This shows how important they are. NEVER use them
during battles against normal enemies. ONLY use these against
VERY tough bosses.
9. Large Mana Potion.
Information: Completely replenishes mana. Don't buy these. You
won't be using them too many times as well.
10. Large Combined Potion.
Information: Super! Refills everything! I NEVER used these during
the entire game. Not even against the last boss. What the hell am
I? They are very expensive too.
11. Magic Cubes.
Information: You will find these magic cubes in shops, crates and
sometimes from people. Use them immediately when you acquire
them. They will increase 1 point in either Intelligence,
Constitution etc. BTW, whenever you see them in shops BUY THEM
despite the heavy price tag.
7. About the author.
My name is Akhtar ... Nabeel Akhtar (OK! Enough!). I now study in
class 11, third of O'levels to be exact. I'm only 15 years old. I
have now mastered MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and I'm making
websites. So you'll be seeing my website sooner or later (most
probably later). Seriously I'm much mature than my age. BTW, I
live in Pakistan, Lahore (heheh). I love console games and hate
PC games except for The Sims and C&C. Be seeing you guys.
8. Other works.
In other words "shameless self-promotion". But hey! I don't give
