1. INTRODUCTION

Welcome to modemtuh's Jade Cocoon F.A.Q., this is my first time writing a Full
FAQ, so bear with me if I screw something up...

Jade Cocoon is not an ordinary RPG, the game has to do with the capture,
battling, and merger of monster (called Minions) instead of building up your
main character (which you DO have to do, but not as much as your Minions), you
build up your Minions. It isn't the deepest (or greatest) storyline, but the
game IS good, and I really enjoyed playing it.

2. STORY
(taken directly from instruction manual)

The people of Parel are being terrorized by horrible monsters, known as
Minions, from the Curse of Alcans. Though the villagers fought the Minions,
they could still coexist with the forest. But that was until the Onibubu, the
Locusts of Apocalypse, attacked the town without warning, plunging many of the
villagers into a deep and endless sleep.

Syrus once had a great hunter, known as a Cocoon Master, who could capture
Forest Minions and soothe their miserable hearts. But the Cocoon Master
disappeared several years ago, and his whereabouts are still unknown. But all
hope is not lost. The village has proclaimed young Levant the new Cocoon Master
and sent him into the Forest in a desperate attempt to save them.

During his difficult and lonely quest, Levant will learn much of the world
around him: the origin of the Curse of Alcana, the power of the Forest God,
Elrihm, the brilliance of his Divine Minions, the cursed legacy of the Nagi
people, and even the truth of his own fate. As he ventures into the depths of
the forest, Levant will face countless ordeals as he fights Minions. His holy
tasks are to restore nature's lost harmony, decide the fate of his world, and
learn to protect and care for the one he loves.

3. The Basics

Gaining Experience
-----------------------
Unlike regular RPG's, in Jade Cocoon, the point is not to build up your
character into some killing machine, but it is to capture Minions and battle
with other Minions using the ones you've captured, once you have beaten the
enemy Minion with your own, your Minion(s) will gain Experience points.
Capturing Minions will increase your characters level, which is important,
because the higher your guy's level, the higher his HP and Capture Level will
be. Your characters level and his Capture level is the same thing. The higher
your Capture Level, the easier it is to capture enemy Minions. You won't gain
experience if your character kills a Minion, your character only gains
Experience when he captures one.

Understanding Elements
-----------------------
The different Minions you face in the game are of different elements, some
elements have advantages over other elemtents, Water beats Fire, Fire beats
Air, Air beats Earth, and Earth beats Water. This doesn't mean that your
Minions are totally ineffective, it means they will be less effective.

Selling Cocoons for Yan (money)
-----------------------
Jade Cocoon won't give you money after battles (like most RPG's), to get money,
you must take your captured Minions to Mahbu (your wife) to be spun, once spun,
the silk can be sold at the shop for Yan, the more the level of the Minion, the
higher the price it can be sold for.

Cloud Silk   -   150 Yan
Thunder Silk -   225 Yan
Lily Silk    -   375 Yan
Pearl Silk   -   600 Yan
First Snow Silk - 1125 Yan
Angelwing Silk  - 3000 Yan
Moonlight Silk  - 7500 Yan

4. Walkthrough

At first, just sit back and watch the story unfold, after you go to bed, you
will encounter a Dream Man, you will have to battle him twice, and you will
lose, its supposed to happen like that. Next, watch various things happen and
you will recieve the Flute of Capture, go to the Watch Tower and get the Beetle
Key from Lui. Go to the Shop and get 3 Mugwort. Now go to the Barrier Gate.
Once Lui leads you there, go through the door into the Beetle Forest.

Beetle Forest
-----------------------
Once inside you will encounter Koris the Blue Cocoon Master, he will teach you
the basics of combat and some other things. Now you must travel through the
forest to reach his hut. The Beetle Forest isn't really large at all, and you
should have no trouble reaching his hut, but what you should do is capture a
lot of Minions, once your Empty Cocoons are full, use the Earring you were
givin and return back to the village, go to Garai's house and get Mahbu to
purify them, once you do, merge them or whatever, I recommend you make sure and
pick up these Minions:

1. Arpatron
2. Terfrayd (at the back of Beetle Forest, near Koris' Hut)
3. Mardrreg (at the back of Beetle Forest, near Koris' Hut)

and anything else you should probably sell, but do whatever you like!! This is
YOUR game, I'm just gonna help you through it. Mess around and build up the
levels of your guy to around 5 and your Minions to about Level 5. There are two
forks in the path, if you take a right on the second one, you will meet up with
a Masked Boy, you have to battle him, he's not strong at all though, have your
Minions around Level 3 or 4 when you fight him and it will be completely easy,
once defeated, he runs off, look inside his hut for some stuff. If/When you
capture Terfrayd and Mardrreg (I strongly suggest you do) you can merge them
together to make one strong Minion. You can find more in the next Forest, but
if you merge them now, they'll really come in handy. Once at Koris' Hut, speak
with him and get the Dragonfly Key and return to the vilage.

Town
-----------------------
Back in Town, talk to whoever and just mess around if you want, buy some
supplies and head to the Dragonfly Forest.

Dragonfly Forest
-----------------------
Once in the Dragonfly Forest, go straight until you reach an intersection, take
a left and pick up the Key, keep following that path until you reach another
intersection, take a left then a right, go straight until you get to yet
another intersection, go left and follow the path until you reach the Poacher,
defeat him and recieve various things (Larva Key is basically all you want),
then go back to the very first intersection and take a right, you'll be on what
is basically a rock bridge, then go straight until you see a rock, put the
Larva Key in the rock, go straight until you reach Kikinak (Bird Man), no real
strategy to defeat him, just use your strongest Minions, they should be around
Level 6 or 7 by know. Once defeated you will recieve the Spider Key.

Town
-----------------------
Go back to the town and stock up on supplies, then head out to the Spider
Forest, by now you should definately be getting the hang of the game.

Spider Forest
-----------------------
Ok, so now your in the Spider Forest, your main goal is to reach Totoyamu,
reach him by going straight, taking a left at the intersection, going straight
a little more, and taking a left at the next intersection, then go straight
down until a little fuzzy dude pops out, give him the ring and you will be back
at your village. After you get the treasure from the Chief, go back to Totoyamu
and give him the belt and get the ring back, now you get to go to the Calabas
Tree, get there by going straight for a while, until you reach the third
intersection, don't make a right, go straight through the door thing, then go
straight, right, right, and continue go straight until you reach the Calabas
Tree, watch what happens.

Town
-----------------------
Go to Garai's House, then stock up on weapons and/or Healing items because in a
few moments, you won't be able to, go to the Chief's Estate and talk to the
guard inside (he's through the door around the top-right just inside the
Chief's place), watch all the crazy stuff happen, then go to Garai's house,
watch what happens there, then save your game, now go to the Moth Forest.

Moth Forest
-----------------------
Once inside go straight, right, straight, right, straight, left, follow that
path until you reach and fight the poacher, beware, his Minion is more
powerful, now you must go to the Nagi Village, do that by going, straight,
right, straight, right, straight, right, and straight, now you will learn what
has happened with Garai and everything, now two Nagi servants are going to take
the place of Mahbu for purifying your Minions and performing Nagi magic. Now
its time to go to the Netherworld...spooky, eh? Anywayz, there are all new
Minions in the upcoming Forests, and they are high levels as well, first you
must return to the Beetle Forest.

Beetle Forest (Netherworld)
-----------------------
I recommend capturing as many Minions as possible, but you should also build up
your Minions to around Level 15, make sure you have a Water Minion at around
Level 14-15, because the Boss of this level (Koris, yeah, you gotta fight
Koris) is the Fire Boss. So, to fight him, you must go to his hut, which is in
the same place (near the rear of the Forest), if you use your Water Minion on
him, It will be very easy to defeat him.

Dragonfly Forest (Netherworld)
-----------------------
Head Straight to the spot where you first fought Kikinak. Kikinak, the Wind
Boss, will summon Seterian, a very powerful Air Elemental Minion, I recommend
having your Minions around Level 20, Fire Minions will work well against him.
You should try to keep rotating your Minions and using Levant to heal them.
This might take a while....have Patience...

Spider Forest (Netherworld)
-----------------------
You will encounter the Earth Boss three times, go to where you met Totayamu,
then backtrack to the next intersection and make a left, keep going to the left
and you will face him again, then backtrack to the First Intersection of the
Forest, make a right there, and go forword pass the first intersection, at the
second one, make a left. The true Boss though is at the Calabas Tree. Use any
Minions that are immune to Stone, equip your main character with an Anti-Stone
Choker, and he will be able to heal your Minions easier. Have your Minions
around Level 30.

The Chosen One
-----------------------
After beating the Earth Boss, the Chosen One will appear. I strongly recommend
you heal your characters, or else there will be a 95% chance you will die. The
Chosen One's Minions Changes Elements every attack round, the pattern is:

Earth
Air
Fire
Water

The Minion will attack then change elements, use this knowledge to bring Levant
in and heal your Minions when you know the next move is to change elements. The
Chosen One really isn't tough, he is just really strong.

After...
-----------------------
Watch the Final Cinema happen!!
