2. Introduction
---------------
Hello and welcome to the Night Stalker FAQ, which will give you information
on how to play the game, scoring and some hints and tips. I hope this FAQ will
help you out some (as that is it's propose) and that you enjoy this fun game.
Note that I'm writing this guide based on the version in Intellivision Lives
for this PlayStation 2, and as far as I can tell there aren't any differences.

Story
-----
This is the general sum-up of this game, which is taken straight from the
manual -
"Your man is trapped in the maze. Robots relentlessly track him down. Keep him
away from spiders and bats. Watch out for robot fire! React quickly. The key
to survival is to destroy them -- before they get the man! Rack up as many
points as you can! It's you against them... to the end!"
Basics
------
The aim of the game is to survive by killing the rest of the enemies until
your lives run out. You are in a maze with other enemies, and a gun spawns
randomly somewhere in the maze. Collect the gun, and using the keys (see
above) you fire in four directions. You only have six bullets to use until
you must collect another weapon.
You have only one safe haven, and that is the bunker located in the center of
the maze (which you start off in). Here no other enemies or fire can harm
you (until the Black Robot + which can destroy the bunker). Use this as much
as you can until the Black Robot +'s arrival.
Enemies
-------
There are three enemies; Spiders, Bats and Robots (although there are six
varieties of robots).
Spiders - Touching these causes you to become paralysed temporarily, so I
would advise to keep away from them whenever you can. These are
always in the game, and respawn in the spiders web in the upper left
corner of the maze (they only take 1 bullet to take down). They can
travel anywhere on the map.
Bats - These guys, like Spiders, paralyse you if you touch them. They appear
on the right side of the map but can travel anywhere. However after
5000 points if killed they respawn as grey robots, so these guys are
short lived.
Robots - These fire bullets at you, which if you are hit with kill you and
take a life away. They _always_ respawn in the bottom right corner
of the maze (which is always a good thing to know) and they change
according to how many points you have accumulated.
Grey Robot - The Grey Robot is the bog standard robot in the game, and the
first you will encounter. They sort go round aimlessly and only
take one bullet to destroy. After 5000 points these guys will
replace bats (once you kill the bats).
Blue Robot - After 5000 points the Blue Robot will replace the Grey Robot.
These are practically the game, except they tend to stay around
your location a bit more and they give you more points for
destroying.
White Robot - After 15,000 points the White Robot will replace the Blue Robot.
The difficulty will turn up a notch when these guys appear,
as they take three bullets to destroy.
Black Robot - After 30,000 points the Black Robot will replace the White
Robot. Like the White Robot, these guys take three bullets to
be destroyed, but also their bullets are larger in size and
can absorb your fire.
Black Robot + - These are the same as the Black Robot, except they can
destroy your bunker. They appear after 50,000 points.
Invisible Robot - After 80,000 points the Black Robot + turns invisible,
making your work cut out. You can only tell where they are
by their fire.
Points Breakdown
----------------
This is a breakdown of the points you get for killing the enemies and also
the requirements for new robots to appear.
Kills - Spiders - 100
Bats - 300
Gray Robot - 300
Blue Robot - 500
White Robot - 1000
Black Robot - 2000
Black Robot + - 2000
Invisible Robot - 4000
Requirements - Blue Robot / Bats=Gray Robots - 5000
White Robot - 15,000
Black Robot - 30,000
Black Robot + - 50,000
Invisible Robot - 80,000

4. Hints and Tips
-----------------
- For the Grey and Blue Robots, I recommend you use this tactic. Hide round
a corner from their bottom left respawn point, and just before they appear
fire a bullet toward that corner so when they appear they are destroyed
pretty much straight away.
- Take your time moving from place to place, don't rush.
- You cannot outrun other bullets (as they are faster than you) so avoid
being in their line of sight unless you are at a fair distance.
- Fire ahead of them then hide behind a wall to ensure they don't fire at
you. So for example in the ASCII diagram below, M is the man, R is the
robot and < is the bullet. The robot is round the corner so fire, then
hide (so he cannot fire at you) but the bullet will hit him when he moves
down.
+------ +------
| R____ | ____
| <M | R<
| | | | M
| | | |
- Use the bunker as much as you can, as it's a great hiding spot. However
stray away from it when the Black Robot + comes along (as it can destroy
it).
- You can only have one of your bullets on the screen at one time. However
this also applies to the enemy robots. So you could try to get a robot to
fire at you and while that is travelling, you can get past other robots
without the risk of being fired at.
- Your bullets can hit multiple enemies (if lined up).
- If you are about to die (like you know you cannot escape an oncoming bullet)
then fire a bullet toward an enemy or something quickly - you may as well
try and kill something before you die (as you have to get a new gun when
you respawn anyway).
