1. - INTRODUCTION

First of all thanks for downloading this FAQ. I've spent quite a
bit of time working on this so thanks for showing your support. It
really keeps me going. This FAQ started out being just a NOTES TO SELF
kind of thing. I was writing it for the Japanese version because it had
come out a few weeks before the US version and being such a fan of the
game I couldn't resist. My extra money was burning holes in my pockets
so I went and bought it. I started just keying in notes so me and my
friends would know what was what. Well here we are. Information
overload. I'm doing my best dealing with the Holidays, friends and work
so if you've got any questions, comments, suggestions, hate mail or

2. - VERSION HISTORY

v0.03 - Finished basic overviews of everything through
section 3J.

v0.04 - Started the LICENSE TESTS section. Started the CARS
section. Started the GAME CODES AND SECRETS section.

v0.05 - Added the SUPER LICENSE test to the LICENSE TESTS
section. Added a LOT more to the CARS section.
Added the first gameshark code for the Japanese
version.

v0.06 - The US version has FINALLY been released. Achieved
gold medals in ALL of the license tests. Added the
license prize cars and remaining info to the THE
LICENSE TESTS and THE CARS sections. Completed the
LICENSE TESTS section completely.

v0.07 - Added quite a few Gameshark codes and removed the
Japanese code(s). Changed the intro to deal away

3. - The Main Menu (CD 2)

3A. - Start Game
This (of course) starts your game.

3B. - Replay Theater
Go here to load, rename, remove and/or copy your demos.
There are also a few demos thrown in here just to show you
who the true masters are.

3C. - Option
Global Option
View Status
Change your view position, chase view, view angle,
replay info and turn your course map on or off here.

Sound
Adjust your back ground music and sound effects
volume here.

Analog Controller
Turn the vibration function on or off.

Race Option
Arcade Race
Change the number of laps in ARCADE mode from
two, to ninety-nine.

2Player Battle
Change the number of laps in your two player game
from two to ninety-nine. Turn race damage on or
off. Adjust the tire damage in your battle from
none, slow or fast. Give one player or other a
handicapped start. Adjust slow car boost from
either; none, slow or fast. What is this? You ask?
Well say for instance your opponent is lagging
behind, what the slow car boost does is gives
that car a little extra power. Turn this option
completely

Key Configuration
Change your controls for the following here;
steering, acceleration, brake, back, side brake,
shift up, shift down, rear view and view change.

Analog Setting 1p / 2p
Change the analog settings for your controllers
here. I've never seen this option enabled. Anyone
know what enables you to adjust this?

3D. SAVE GAME
Save your game to memory cards one or two here. I have no
clue why they make it where you have to completely leave
the main section(s) of simulation mode to save your game.
You'll never appreciate the shortcut you had in GT1 until
you start trying to save your game every five minutes like
me.

3E. LOAD GAME
Gran Turismo 2 will automatically load your game if your
memory card is in your PSX when it boots. If it's not, or
you want to load a friends game, this options for you.

3F. COMMUNICATION
Trade ...
Trade vehicles with a friend or buy vehicles from
another one of your saved games. Note that you MUST
have their memory card to do this! DoH!

Mix Records Data ...
This option is to mix best lap times amongst you and
your friends. This is nice because you can see who the
King of a certain track really is.

Convert ...
I'm guessing this is to import your cars from the first
Gran Turismo. I couldn't tell you because my Japanese
version of Gran Turismo is long gone and it gives me an
error (?) when I tell it to convert my Gran Turismo (US)
saved game. I wish I could read Japanese! However, this
is probably going to be where you import your licenses
from the first Gran Turismo. I'll know for sure (as will
you!) when the US version comes out.

4. - The Gran Turismo 2 World Map

4A. CAR WASH
Taking your car to the wash makes it nice and shiny. This
costs 5000cr.

4B. WHEEL SHOP
Now this is my type of rim shop. Every type of rim here
costs the same amount. (200,000cr) I haven't found any
reason to buy wheels besides looks. I'm pretty sure they
don't effect your cars performance. Below is a listing of
wheel manufacturers you can buy from.

4C. HOME
This is where you can check out the cars you've obtained
along with your licensor credits. You can also see how much
of the game you've completed.

4D. LICENSE
Take your license tests here. There are five licenses to
get; B, A, I-C, I-B and I-A. If you're lucky or just bored
and you get all gold trophies, you get a special vehicle.
Want to know what you win for each license? Check the
license or vehicle section for more info.

4E. MACHINE TEST
400m - See how quick your car can make a quarter mile.
1000m - Not a quarter mile, not a half mile. See how quick
you can take out 1000 meters.
Max Speed - Take a drive on the high speed ring to see
just how far you can push your car.

5. - THE LICENSE TESTS

This is definitely the most difficult part of the Gran Turismo
world. You'll be facing ten tests in each license class and put in
a situation in which you must take out the selected area of course
within so much time with a pre-selected vehicle. I remember trying
to get a bronze medal throughout the tests in the first Gran Turismo.
Damn the frustration. I've heard they're allowing you to import these
license tests from GT1, but this has yet to be confirmed. When doing
this, one of the bonuses I don't think you'll get are the "special"
cars. What do I mean by this? Well if you manage to get all gold
trophies within a license class, you get a "secret" or "special" car.
My friends and I have managed to get all gold in ALL of the License
tests.What did we get for our patience? Look below...

I remember when I used to work at a Babbages/Software Etc and I
talked with many, many people that had just given up on the tests.
"NO! This is the MAIN part of the game! You haven't played Gran
Turismo until you've played the All Nighter!" I would tell them. Some
of them listened, some of them didn't. The ones that did though
thanked me. I would always point them towards the demos, and in GT2
they've made it SO much easier to view the "masters" at work. To view
these simply select "Demonstration" from the tests menu. Watch these
guys very closely. Where they brake, when they turn, how much they
turn, their speed through the corners, their speed on the
straight-aways and anything else you may find that helps you. When
you think you're ready select "Start" and prepare for a long
frustrating battle.

I thought the number of cars in the first Gran Turismo was amazing
but a game of this magnitude in the hands of Sony can only get better.
