]----------------------Section i - Before we get Started----------------------[
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Welcome to my Rare Item FAQ written for Final Fantasy IV for the SNES/PSX. This
guide will cover all of the 'rare items' in the game. These items are dropped
by enemies in the game, and are only found by winning them from these enemies,
with the exception of a few items.

Each section of this FAQ will cover a different set of rare items, ranging from
weapons to consumable items. Throughout the FAQ, you'll see an assortment of
different terms being used. These terms include 'Attack', 'Attack %', and
'Defense'. Let's take a look at what these terms mean...

For Weapons:

'Attack' - A weapons base power. Add this to 1/4 Strength [0..96] and 1/4 Level
[0..96], to determine a characters current attack power (for all of
the characters except Yang, who uses a wild attack power formula).

'Attack %' - The accuracy of the weapon. Basically, it's how often your weapon
            will hit.

For Armors:

'Defense' - An items base defense. Add it to 1/2 Vitality [0..96] to determine
           your characters defense rating.

'Evade' - How well a character will dodge an enemies attack (physical). A
higher Evade stat will mean that your character will dodge more
attacks than a character with a lower Evade stat. Just add this to a
characters base Evade to determine their new Evade stat value.

'Mag. Def' - An items base Magic Defense. Helps to determine how well a
character can withstand the damage dealt to them by an enemies
            spell.

'Mag. Evade' - How well a character will dodge an enemies attack (magical). A
higher Mag .Evade stat will mean that your character will dodge
more of the enemies spells than a character with a lower Mag.
Evade stat. Just add this to a characters base Mag. Evade to
determine their new Mag. Evade stat value.

For both:

'Strength' - A characters base attack power (1/2 Strength [0..96]).

'Agility' - The 'universal' stat, so to speak. It affects the growth of a
characters Attack/Defense/Magic Multipliers, as well as every other
           stat.

'Vitality' - A characters base defense (1/2 Vitality [0..96]). It is not in any
            way related to HP growth.

'Wisdom' - Base multiplier for Black Magic damage. Black Magic users generally
have higher Wisdom stats than White Magic users, but they suffer
from having a low Will stat.

'Will' - Base multiplier for White Magic. Pretty much the same Wisdom, but in
the sense of a White Magic user, Will will be much higher than Wisdom.

Now that you have those basic concepts down (or I hope you have them down),
let's move on to the next section =D

]-------------------------Section vi - Tips and Tricks------------------------[
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Here are some tips that can be applied to obtaining these Rare Items a little
more easily.

Alerts: Alerts can be stolen from, well, Alerts in the Giant of Babil. By using
an Alert in an area infested with enemies, you'll put yourself into a
battle with the rarest encounter of that particular area. This makes
getting that elusive Pink Tail about 64 times (no joke either) easier,
along with a slew of other Rare Items.

If you plan on using Alerts to your benefit, then I suggest stockpiling
around 500 while inside the Giant of Babil, by continuosly using Edges
       'Sneak' ability on the Alerts.

The Lord Leandreus "Life 2 Trick":
A fellow member of GameFAQs, Lord Leandreus, found out this trick. If
you can time casting Life 2 on an enemy, just after it dies, then it
will be revived. But get this; each time you do so, it thinks that you
are killing another enemy, which means that you have just raised your
chances in getting an Item after battle! You also get the EXP/Gil of
the enemy you revived/killed multiple times.

It's easier said then done, however. I suggest killing everyone but
Rydia and Rosa. When Rydia's turn comes up, wait for a few seconds then
select Flare from her spell list. Immediately afterwards, have Rosa
select and cast Life 2 on the same enemy as Rydis is casting Flare. If
all goes well, the enemy will be killed by Flare, then revived by Life
       2 =D

The same trick can be done using the Life 1 Spell/Potion, but the
enemy will not be revived. It still counts for two enemies being killed
       however.

Conjurers and Alerts/Searchers:
If you know that one of these enemies summons another enemy into battle
that drops a Rare Item, then you can greatly increase your chances of
finding that Rare Item you always wanted. Simply kill the enemy that
the Conjurer/Alert/Searcher summons over and over again. This is also
a good way to gain lots of EXP and Gil.

    2) Do not send any spam, hate mail, etc.. I am in no mood to put up with
       any of that BS.
    3) Do not except an immediate response. I do not check my e-mail all of
the time, so you will be lucky if you get a response within 2-3 days of
       sending me an e-mail.
    4) Any corrections would be greatful, whether it be typo corrections or
just a correction on the content of this FAQ.
    5) And above all, please, PLEASE do not send me questions about content
that is already covered in this FAQ! I will ignore EVERYTHING that is
       already answered in this FAQ.

As well, I would appreciate if you DID NOT add me to your MSN buddy list(s). I
hope that you will please respect my wishes, as they are nothing too great, but
merely simple requests.

First off, I would like to thank the following:

Squaresoft: For making such a great and enjoyable game! Kudos to Square for
           this timeless masterpiece!

CJayC: For running such a great site (GameFAQs.com), and for posting this faq.
Keep up the great work CJayC!

Magus999 For information regarding the Glass Helmet, Artemis Bow, Power Robe,
Crystal Ring, Rune Axe and Medusa Sword.

PB8Jelly: For being an all around cool guy, and for keeping his contract with
me on releasing any of the Gold/Silver Apple info early.

I'm also thanking him for finding a few errors in the last release
of the FAQ, so credit goes to him for the recent update (v1.337).

Zach Keene: For informing me of a few errors I made, and for pointing out the
correct attack power formula used. He also suggested I add a tips
           section.

DarkBear33: For pointing out a few errors, as well as being an all around kick
           ass guy.

Lord Leandreus: For finding out the Life 2 trick.

Paulygon: I used some of the odds from his dropped Item FAQ (for the j2e fan
         translation patch).

Mike Johnson: For the about the Cursed Ring letting you absorb elements.

Myself: For taking the time to write this FAQ and spreading some of the
lesser known FFIV knowledge, thus allowing more and more people to be
able to get more of the rarer Items in the game.

If there's anyone that I forgot to thank, you get my deepest apologies! ;)
