- You can pause the game during battle. This will stop the play time
counter from running.
- You have 46 slots for items in your inventory.
- During the game, you'll see a lot of changes in the setup of your
party members (as seen below). What you should know is that, whenever
a character leaves, all the items they had equipped will be lost (even
if it's a character who eventually rejoins the party). You should really
try to avoid losing any items like this.

- There are plenty of tempting rare drops in the game, but unlike in my
other guides, I'd have to recommend that you ignore all of them due to
the terrible odds (about 0,08% for the 4th slot item and 0,9% for the 3rd.
The overall drop rate is about 5%).

- The power of White Magic is dependant on Seishin, whereas the power
of Black Magic is dependant on Chisei.
- Multi-casting divides the power by the number of targets. For healing
spells, even dead characters count in the menu, but not during battle.
- During battle, your characters are positioned like so:
2 2
4 4
1 or 1
5 5
3 3
- Due to a programming error, it's possible for a character to
permanently lose the ability to deal critical hits. This can be triggered
by being dead at the beginning of a battle or by equipping certain
weapons (such as axes or whips). Seeing as critical hits are pretty
uncommon to begin with and only increase power by 50% (in most cases),
losing them makes fairly little difference.

- Once you're in control, you are to head to the top floor of the west
tower. Grab the items first, though, as you won't be able to get back
into the castle later.
- You'll start off with just one item in your inventory: Bomb no Yubiwa
(Unique, Temp).
- Have a look at the settings.

- Nc-items are items obtained on the field through means other than
examining treasure chests.
- I've tagged certain items as 'Unique' or 'Artifact.' Unique items
are, indeed, unique, whereas Artifact items are available in a limited
quantity greater than one.
- You'll find a person named Namingway in the training room, who can
change your characters' names (he's even got Latin alphabets). You'll
run into him again in several other places.
- You can use Tents and Cottages on the field and at save points.
F: Fire H: Holy W: Quad power
I: Ice A: Anti-air w: Double power
T: Thunder A: Absorb (magic) / Resist (physical)
- Better level up first before heading to the first dungeon.
- Cecil's special attack Ankoku hits all enemies but drains his HP by
1/8 of mHP.
- The encounter rate in the game can be rather fickle. Sometimes you
can take 50 steps before another random encounter, sometimes only two.
- Hold L and R during battle to flee. Doing so frequently will cause
you to drop some gil (25% of what you would have won had you finished
the battle). Don't hesitate to run away from enemies that give you too
much trouble.
- You can change the character you appear as on the field by hitting R.
This has seemingly no effect on how the game plays, though.
- The Sword Rats will use a powerful counterattack (Hari) whenever
they're hit, so it would be in your best interest to try and kill them
with a single blow (30 HP) - a recurring theme in the game.
- The Goblin Summon is probably the easiest hidden summon to obtain.
It's not very powerful, though.
Item (nc): Gysahl no Yasai \\\ Chocobo no Mori ||
- You can't actually ride the White Chocobo, but instead, when you
catch one, you'll recover your MP.
- Then we have the Fat Chocobo, who will come out if you have some
Gysahl no Yasai to spare. You can use him to store your items, so keep
that in mind if you're too obsessed to let go of your uniques and stuff.
He's got 126 slots.
[Boss]
- 465 HP, 700 Exp, 200 gil
- Try not to attack her in her mist form, otherwise she'll retaliate
with a powerful counterattack.
\\\ Mist no Mura ||
- Kain leaves the party here, so better de-equip him so you can sell
his stuff for some gil (he'll have a completely new set of gear when
he eventually rejoins).
- Characters who temporarily leave the party will gain experience even
in their absence.
Item (nc): Ether \\\ Kaipo ||

[Boss]
- 226 HP / 27 HP. 869 Exp, 242 gil in total.
- You'll have to go through a fixed encounter (close enough to a boss)
with a General and 3 Baron Heis during the initial event. It's just you
alone, but at least you start off with max HP. I suggest you take out
the General after killing two of the soldiers, as he'll run away if you
kill all three soldiers.
- The item shop is carrying the same wares that you found in Baron.
- Rydia starts off with the Chocobo summon (7 MP).
- Rydia won't be impressing you with her physical attacks. At best,
she might be able to finish off some of the enemies that are left
severely wounded by Cecil. Her HP and defense are quite low as well.
Keep her in the back row, and keep defending early on so she doesn't
die from two hits.
- Her spells are nice, but better use them with moderation so as not
to completely drain your MP. You should save them for when you really
need them.
- There's no way to avoid losing Rydia's criticals, so that's one thing
you don't have to worry about.
- Find Rosa in one of the houses.

- I'd say the best way to build up is to blast the enemies away with
Thunder, and then head back to Kaipo when you run out of MP. Either
that, or you can use a Tent (50 gil vs 100 gil). A Tent won't revive
a dead character, though.
- This is probably the place where you'll have your first encounter
with undead enemies - Zombies, to be exact. They appear in groups of
four (in the first areas), and the problem here is that Cecil currently
won't be able to damage them for more than 1 HP per hit (they have 52 HP
in total). Spamming Cure on them works, but running away isn't a bad
idea (once you pick up Tella, you'll have an easier time dispatching
them with Cura). Fortunately, they're somewhat uncommon.
- Gigantoads are quite likely to transform you with the Toad spell, but
you may not have to use an Otome no Kiss, as you'll be changed back to
normal if they hit you with it again.
- The Shiibottsu seem to regenerate all their HP from elemental spells.
They're worth decent xp, so if you want to kill them before they run
away, try summoning Chocobo.
- Tellah is hanging around near the entrance and will join your party
when you talk to him. His initial spells are:
- White: Cura, Esuna, Raise, Telepo, Confuse, Blink
- Black: Fire, Blizzard, Thunder, Stop, Aspil
- Mini Magicians counter physical attacks with Hold and spells with Aspil.
Magic is ineffective anyway, so have Cecil take them out with a single
blow (69 HP). If you get hit by Hold, there's no need to panic, as the
effect wears off after a while.

- Tellah will leave the party here (de-equip his items), and be replaced
by Gilbert (aka Edward). I don't bother keeping him alive.
- You'll also receive the Hovercraft (Hover Sen), which is able to
cross reefs (or something).
- If you need healing, you can use the recovery pots on the third floor.
- If you try to go through the Chika Suimyaku again (through the south

- After the initial event, Rydia will learn to cast Fire.
- The second hidden summon spell, Cockatrice, can be obtained here.
Like all rare drops, it's exceedingly difficult to score, though, so I
would suggest you simply move on. If you're really determined to get
it, you're better off doing so in the Fabul region, as Cockatrices are
more common there.
- There are two types of bombs here: the regular Bomb (55 HP) and the
Pain Bomb (111 HP). The bomb family's trademark move is Jibaku, in which
the bomb self-destructs and deals whatever HP they had left as damage.
The Pain Bombs are particularly volatile, and they'll blow up on you
after only attacking you a couple of times. The regular ones are much
more stable, so you should focus your attention on the gray ones (neither
of these drop anything, by the way).
- Yang (or Yan) will join your party as the fifth character when you
encounter the boss.
[Boss]
- 2418 Exp, 543 gil
- You might be looking at a little trouble here. Mom Bomb will eventually
explode on you, dealing a fair amount of damage to your entire party,
and after that she'll leave behind 3 regular Bombs and 3 Pain Bombs, who
will also give you the usual self-destruct treatment.

Rosa and Rydia will ditch the party afterwards (again, you should
probably unequip their gear), leaving you with just Gilbert and Yang.
You'll fight a number of fixed encounters during the events that
follow. Once it's over, you'll get Rydia back for a while, but soon
you'll be left with no one other than Cecil.
- Head to the inn to trigger the next event, during which you'll
obtain the Deathbringer.
- The ship is waiting for you east of the castle. Once you get on,

- There are two trapped chests on the second floor and two more on the
fourth.
- The Eyes take almost no damage from magic.
- When alone, Chimeras spam you with Honoo. You can't put up with that
for long.
- The first Save Point is on the fourth floor.
- On the 6th floor, you can see a chest that you can't reach. Just
ignore it. (It's the last Hi-Potion you find in the new areas, although
if you come back here later, it'll still appear to be closed even if
you've opened it.)

- You should get Edge to join your party as soon as possible and get
the items afterwards.
- The Chikara no Tsue does ok damage but also inflicts Berserk, so don't
use it if it doesn't result in a kill.
- The Kyojin no Kote is a relatively common drop (*if* you get a drop),
but the Stale Golem itself is a rare encounter, so you'll need to use
Alarms. I suggest you use 10, then reset so you don't lose that many
of them. I don't think you can get it from the trapped chest encounter.
- You'll find an underground settlement on the B2 floor.
- The chest in the save room is a monster-in-a-box; you'll have to
fight two Stale Golems for the Blood Sword.
- At the end of the cave (right after the save point), Edge will join
your party as the fifth and final party member.
- Edge has three special abilities:
1. Ninjutsu: Ninjutsu skills are basically spells. You'll start off
with just one (Katon).
2. Nageru: Nageru allows you to throw ninja stars and some regular
weapons. The damage is usually pretty good, but keep in mind, everything
you throw will be lost in the process.
3. Nusumu: Nusumu allows you to steal items from enemies. It's the same
item that's first on their drop list (as in, nothing too impressive).
Note that you can steal multiple items from the same enemy.
- You'll be exploring different areas of the tower than last time,
and you will no longer have access to these areas once you complete
the events here.
- Some of the enemies here have nasty counterattacks (Blaster, Yuuwaku),
so do your best to take them down with a single blow.
- The chest on the 2nd floor is a monster-in-a-box; you'll have to
fight 4 Baasa Ogres for the Ogre Killer.
- The save point is on the north side of the 3rd floor.
- The boss awaits you on the 5th floor. Before you get to fight him,
you'll have to go through an event battle with Eblana Ou and Eblana Ouhi.
You don't have to do anything in that one, though, as the battle ends
on its own (Edge learns Suiton and Raijin during the scene that follows).
[Boss]
- 34 000 HP, W:I, 18 000 Exp, 7000 gil
- Ruby's kind enough to fully heal you right before the battle begins.
- Kaenryuu: ~2000 pod.
- He'll absorb Ice-elemental magical damage when he's blocking with his cape.
- The door behind Ruby leads you to the Crystal Room, but you won't be
able to take more than a few steps here, as a trap floor will send you
falling down a bunch of floors. This isn't one of the areas you've
previously explored, though. Just keep going, and you'll eventually
obtain the second airship, Falcon.
- Check the other door on 7F for a buggy hidden item. There are four
more of these in the upcoming dungeons.
Item (nc): Luca no Kubikazari (Unique, Temp) \\\ Dwarf no Shiro ||
Special: Falcon upgrade
- Initially, the Falcon is unable to fly across lava, but you can
quickly take care of that by visiting Cid in the Dwarven Castle.
- You'll also need the Luca no Kubikazari in order to enter the Sealed Cave.
Theft: Alarm (Eyes) \\\ Babil no Tou ||
- Right, now, I'd suggest you return to the Tower of Babel (through
the main entrance), so you can hoard up on Alarms by stealing them
from the Eyes. You should try and get about 200 of them (the more,
the better). Do it on the 7th floor, where the save point is. Kill
off some of your party members to speed things up. If you have *no*
interest in the Adaman Armor (the strongest armor in the game), you
can skip this.
- Keep in mind, once you complete the Fuuin no Doukutsu, you will
never be able to enter the tower again, and there are no (practical)
alternate sources.
- When used, the Alarm item will trigger an encounter with the last
set of enemies in the area (there are 8 sets in any given area).
\\\ Kajiya no Kukuro no Ie ||

- I would recommend against buying any armor for Rosa and Rydia.
- On the southern part of the Sylvan region, you'll find some enemies
you can't encounter anywhere else.
- You now have access to three new dungeons: Fuuin no Doukutsu, Sylph
no Doukutsu, and Genjuu no Doukutsu. Only the first one is mandatory,
but the others are (also) filled with nice magic items, so check them
out too once you feel like you're up for the task. The enemies are
fairly tough, so don't hesitate to use your strongest spells (eg. Quake
/ Titan) against the larger groups. Of course, you can just run away
from the battles as well.

Assault Door | 5000 | 30 000 | 4500 | |
- You'll have to fight a number of fixed encounters with some Assault
Doors here. They use a nasty attack called 9th Dimension that instantly
kills the target, and they can also transform into another monster
(such as a Chimera Brain or a Yellow Dragon) when their HP gets low.
Many of them only lead to empty rooms, but the Experience is quite good.
There are 15 of them in total, but only 3 of them are completely mandatory.
- This is probably the last dungeon in the game where (most of) the
enemies can be considered easy. In future dungeons, there's a good
chance you'll end up running away from most battles, as it's just not
worth wasting all that MP (or maybe it's just me).
- The first Save Point is on B2F, behind the fifth door.
- When you first reach B3F, you'll be in a little room with two chests.
The exit is south, but it might be a little hard to notice.
- The second Save Point is on B4F. You'll encounter the boss on B5F
after grabbing the Crystal.
- Check the stairway leading to B5 to find another unintentional hidden
item. You can also check one of the ropes nearby to initiate a fixed
encounter.

1. Find Yang in the Sylph Cave (cast Levitate to avoid floor damage).
2. Talk to Yang's wife in Fabul to receive the Ai no Frypan.
3. Use the pan on Yang.
4. Give the pan back to Yang's wife to receive the Houchou.
- The Houchou is a weapon to be thrown by Edge and it deals fairly
substantial damage. Better save it for a special occasion.

out the Witch, the toads will do nothing. Aspil works well on the Witch.
- The six chests the teleporter leads you to are all trapped. You'll
want to be extra cautious with number 5.

1: 6x Evil Dreams -> Akai Kiba
2. 6x Evil Dreams -> Shiroi Kiba
3. 6x Evil Dreams -> Aoi Kiba
4. 2x Mamons, 2x Malboros -> Engetsurin
5. 4x Malboros -> Avenger
6. 2x Andagurandas -> 10x Medusa no Ya
- There's one more monster-in-a-box closer to the Sylphs' place, in a
little room only accessible through a hidden passage; you'll have to
fight a Toady Witch and 6 Toady Toads for the Mage Masher.
Special: Odin Summon \\\ Baron Jou ||
Boss: Odin
- Now that you've been to the land of the summon monsters, you can
fight Odin in the Baron Castle. Just head to the basement from the
east tower. While I'm covering this now, I can't actually pull it off
until I've done quite a bit of leveling up.
[Boss]
- 20 001 HP, W:T, 18 000 Exp
- He'll attack three times, then use Zantetsuken, which will pretty
much annihilate you. Cecil and Kain might be able to survive, but
then he'll just repeat the cycle, making your life very difficult.
Kain can completely evade the attack by Jumping, but Odin will simply
start using Zantetsuken more often the longer you fight.
- It's possible to cancel Zantetsuken by hitting him with a Thunder
spell when he's preparing to use it.
- Ankokumadoushis have a bunch of spells in their arsenal, with Tornado
being the most dangerous one.
- Tsuki no Megamis will throw some hits at you before using their special
attack Houyou, which will fully heal the target, while at the same time
causing Petrifaction. After that, they'll run away.
- Before you can reach Bahamut, you'll have to take care of three fixed
Behemoth encounters. Their constant counterattacks are quite powerful.
If you try to use magic on them, they'll whip you with Maelstrom, leaving
your party with single digit HP. These guys won't respawn, so you can
safely head out to save and recover your health whenever needed.
- Unfortunately, there's no save point here.
[Boss]
- 45 001 HP, 35 000 Exp
- Bahamut will count down from 5 and then unleash Mega Flare, which
deals fairly massive damage (anywhere between 1000-6000 pod).
Party: Lv60-65 \\\ Tsuki no Chika Keikoku ||
Items:
Kuroshouzoku (U)* Mamori no Yubiwa *
Kenja no Tsue (U)* Crystal Helm (U)*
Firebute (U) Akai Kiba
Dragon Shield (U) Fuuma Shuriken
Dragon Helm (U) 10x Artemis no Ya
Dragon Mail (U) Cottage
Dragon no Kote Kin no Ringo
10x Artemis no Ya Mamori no Yubiwa
Elixir Minerva Bisuche *
Shiroi Kiba Fuuma Shuriken
X-Potion Elixir
Hoshikuzu no Rod (U)* Gysahl no Fue
Crystal no Tate (U)* Fuuma Shuriken
Crystal Mail (U)* Fuuma Shuriken
Crystal no Kote (U)* Ribbon
Shiro no Robe (U) Ribbon
- You probably can't get all the items in one go.
- On the first levels, you'll find the same enemies as in Bahamut's Lair.
It's not until about halfway through that you start seeing some new faces.
- The one and only chest on the B1 floor is a monster-in-a-box; you'll
have to fight 2 Majinheis for the Kuroshouzoku.
- The B2 floor would probably be the best place to try and get your
Artemis Bow (if you're patient enough).
- One of the chests on the B2 floor is trapped; you'll have to fight
2 Ankoku Madoushis and 2 Tsuki no Megamis for the Kenja no Tsue.
- Kinryuus will counter every attack with Makitsuki, which may inflict
paralysis on a random character. Their Inazuma can deal 2000+ pod.
- Check the stairs leading down on B3 for a hidden item (toss it).
- Aspil works pretty well on Rirumaadaas.
- One of the chests on the B4 floor is a monster-in-a-box; you'll have
to fight a Behemoth for the Hoshikuzu no Rod.
- There's one last hidden item (150 gil) in the first doorway on B5.
- Five trapped chests on B5: Crystal no Tate (Blue Dragon & Red Dragon),
Crystal Mail (Behemoth), Crystal no Kote (2 Red Dragons), Crystal Helm
(Ankokumadoushi & Saurus Zombie), Mamori no Yubiwa (Behemoth)
- Blue Dragons have only 15 000 HP, but their defense is pretty high,
so it'll take a while to bring them down.
- Ahrimans will spam you with Shi no Senkoku to inflict Doom on you.
These guys are probably not worth fighting. The counter does reset
every time you're hit with it, but once you're down to only a couple
of characters, they'll ditch Shi no Senkoku, cast Haste on themselves
and throw you Berserk and Confuse.
- The little room on the B5 level where you find the Akai Kiba is the
so called 'Pink Puff Room.' It's the room quite close to the path that
takes you to B6. This is the only place in the game where you can
encounter the Purin Princess aka Pink Puff. As I've already explained
if you have a huge load of Alarms, you could try and get the Pink Tail,
which you could use to get a second chunk of Adamantite. Take that to
Kukuro and you'll get the Adaman Armor. If you don't have enough Alarms,
you can forget the whole thing. It's too late to get more of them, and
without them, you can only rarely encounter these guys.
× Either way, they come in groups of 5 and have 20 000 HP. They're
fairly difficult to dispatch because of how they Berserk your characters.
- One last trapped chest on B6; fight an Ankokumadoushi and 3 Tsuki no
Megamis for the Minerva Bisuche.
- Throughout the caves, you'll find some pedestals holding some of the
most powerful equipment in the game (mostly weapons). They're all
guarded by powerful bosses, so before examining them, make sure you've
recently saved somewhere, so you won't lose too much progress should
you die. While they're all optional, if you can't handle them, you
probably can't handle the final boss either.
- The first of these pedestals is at a dead end on the B3 floor. You
can reach it by taking the other flight of stairs on B1 (the one the
teleporter takes you to).
[Boss: Hakuryuu]
- 32 700 HP, A:FIT, 55 000 Exp + Murasame
- Hakuryuu will counter physical attacks with Slow. He will also absorb
all elemental spells, and counter them with fairly powerful attacks.
Even though he'll occasionally whip out Maelstrom, this is still
definitely the easiest of the bosses here.
- The next pedestal is on B5. Take the hidden path on B6 to get there.
The first Save Point is (somewhat) conveniently placed in the previous
area, so no pressure here.
[Boss: Dark Bahamut]
- 60 000 HP, 64 000 Exp + Ragnarok
- The Ragnarok will make Cecil lose his criticals (if he already hasn't).
- The next two pedestals are both on B7 right next to the second and
final Save Point.
- You'll no doubt notice the change of scenery once you descend below B7.
During these last levels, you'll encounter the nastiest, most powerful
enemies in the game. You also won't be able to use Telepo beyond this point.
- Red Dragons hit pretty hard and fast, but with only 15 000 HP, they're
not that big of an issue.
- You should already be familiar with the Behemoths. They'll counterattack
constantly, so choose your attacks wisely. Don't use magic.
- Face will Reflect both parties and then start throwing some nice
little spells like Holy and Flare at you.
- Zemus Breath is surprisingly harmless, as he thinks it's a good idea
to spam you with Libra. (Mindblast does almost nothing)
- In stark contrast, hanging out with Zemus Mind is nothing short of
unpleasant. After attacking you a couple of times, he'll cast a Confuse
spell that affects your entire party. Run like a bitch.
- Breath and Mind are the only enemies in the final area. Prepare for
the final boss before proceeding.
[Boss: Zeromus]
- 65 498 HP
- If his current HP falls within a certain range, he'll fully recover
his HP. This can only happen once, though.
- Keeping Rydia alive is probably not worth the effort.
- Weapons that can be used during battle to trigger actions need to be
equipped to function.
