01.)                    INTRODUCTION                                 G0100
===============================================================================

Welcome to 'Egypt II: The Heliopolis Prophecy' for the Playstation and PC, a
historic adventure game released by Cryo Interactive in 2000/2001. The
Playstation release is only available in Europe.

If you spot any errors or have suggestions please feel free to e-mail me about
it. Enjoy!

02.)                    BASICS                                       G0200
===============================================================================

This adventure game is unlike LucasArts where you cannot die. In fact, dying is
possible at many places in the game, thus be very careful not to do anything
foolish. I personally dislike this type of adventure as it discourages
exploring, yet one will have to deal with it for Cyro adventures.

This game is rather self-explanatory in what your aim is - walk around and
interact with the environment to advance the story. Talking to people is
generally a good idea for receiving hints. I will try not to spoil any story in
the walkthrough section.

If you want to read more about Egyptian history, as well as receive some hints
about anything related to your quest, check the Documentary section in the
menu. It is rather long and extensive but nevertheless an interesting read even
if you are not looking for any particular help with the game. In fact the
developers seem to assume you will make use of this section for some puzzles.

As mentioned earlier, the games are almost identical in story and gameplay,
although the obvious control and graphic differences are there. However, some
puzzles appear to be slightly altered.

02.)                    WALKTHROUGH                                  G0300
===============================================================================

As you start the prologue you will hear constant knocking on the door. You can
actually ignore this for now. Pan towards the pillar and walk behind it. Here
you will find the Book of Remedies and an eye ointment. After picking up both
you can open the door for a short conversation, then exit right away to kick
off the introduction.

After the scene, turn towards the main road and continue up ahead three times
until an old neighbor talks to you. Continue up ahead twice more and then turn
right. Walk forward three times and you should see a yellow door on the left
side. Open and enter it, then walk through into the main area for yet another
scene. Talk to your adoptive father in the other corner of the roof. Examine
him. Talk to him again and leave the house. Turn left from the door and walk
forward until you reach the map screen.

Select the area just north of the center (the center is the neighborhood you
just came from) and you will arrive at the temple. It should be rather clear on
the map as well. Walk forward a few times and then pan right a little to the
guy standing around. It will trigger a short conversation. Continue towards the
gate with a guard in front (actually does not look like any guard you might
expect). After the second time you have to play a sliding game. This works like
any 3x3 sliding game but the trick is that you do not see the matching tiles
directly and will need to hover your cursor over the right tiles to see which
one they match to. After this you will be allowed in.

Talk to the guard at the other end of the small courtyard and he needs tools to
write your name. Turn left and walk towards this entrance. Inside are two doors
at the other end. Take the right one and you can find a reed pen case in plain
sight. Bring this back to the guard and he will need ink as well (if you tried
taking the ink from the same room as the pen case you will not be able to...).
Return to the room with the reed pen case but this time take the left door to
enter. The ink is in the corner of this room. When you return to the library
guard he is actually gone now, strange. Enter the library and walk towards the
back, turning left at the end and opening the cabinet. There are several
scrolls you have to read first and finally you can take the tablet as well. The
cabinet should be empty now.

Exit the library and you will see a scene when returning to the main temple
area. There is a woman near the entrance as well who will talk to you. Examine
her to find she has the same disease. Walk towards the main gate and turn
around. Talk to the small boy and examine him as well. Give him the eye
ointment. Exit via the gate to the map screen. Return to the neighborhood in
the center.

Enter your father's house and this time you have to go up to the roof by
yourself. It is a little tricky to maneuver the house. Go through the first
room (it continues behind the pillar) and then turn left after the doorway to
find the stairs leading to the roof. Talk to your father about the disease.

Back at the temple, walk towards the gateway with the two large statues. Speak
with the guard twice and return to your home in the neighborhood. Talk to
Djehouty. Return down the stairs and pick up the gold ring on the stool. It is
really hard to see! Walk beyond into the lit corner to find a parchment, wheat
grains, sleeping potion and reed pens. Give the blank papyrus (parchment) to
Djehouty and then the reed pens and the ink.

Back at the temple once again, give the letter to the guard at the statues.
Enter the gate and walk around this building to another courtyard. The Seer
will approach you. Eventually you are to return to the main area of the temple
and take the opposite gateway to the grain silos. Walk to the left side of the
first silo to find a wooden plank. Go around to the right side and step up to
the third silo. The palm tree on the right of this has a rope at its base. Also
you must talk to the sweeper in the back to be allowed into the silos
themselves. Walk up the third silo counting from the entrance (which is next to
the palm tree where you find the rope). Combine the wooden plank with the rope
and use this combination to descend into the silo. Grab some grain and look up
to find an opening to return to the top. Leave the temple area entirely and
return to the neighborhood.

From the start, walk forward four times and then turn right into an alley.
There is a door at the end. Inside you can find a mirror and a scribe seal in
the corner (and for some reason the seal is a 'bucket' in your inventory). You
should be able to find your back to the temple from here.

Enter the gate in the far right corner by showing the guard the bracelet you
received from the Seer earlier. Enter the library just ahead and talk to the
scribe. This allows for opening the cabinet on the right which holds a
fastener. Ask the scribe about it. Exit the library and pan right to the other
courtyard. You will find the Seer behind a tree here. Give him the wheat stalk
from the silo. Walk towards the center of this courtyard to speak with the
little boy. After a scene you should leave the temple and return to your home.

Talk to Djehouty up on the roof and he will give you the tablet back. Combine
the tablet with the ink and use the tablet full of ink with the blank
parchment. Show this legible parchment to Djehouty. We are to go back to the
temple again.

Walk through the gate with the statues, then across this area and also the next
one to a small alley with doors on each side. Enter the last one on the left to
find Irou. Threaten him with the top choice and he will give you the mallet.
Exit the room and this alley and then proceed straight ahead until you are in a
room with a statue. Place the mirror at the base where the indentation looks
exactly like it would match. Look left and high up on the wall to see an odd
square stone. Use the mallet on this stone to make an opening. After a scene
you can take the parchment from the hole (this location was hinted in the
tablet in case you are wondering). Return to Irou in the warehouse and look at
the baskets near the middle of the room. They contain some berries. You want to
take caraway and juniper berries (if she says "No" then you must have taken
some already, check your inventory). Give the gold ring to Irou and then scour
the cabinets for bean flour and honey. With all this you can leave the temple
for now.

When you are in the neighborhood, proceed straight ahead until you find a
street vendor near a corner (past the donkey, not the earlier one). Give her
the bracelet and agree to trade for the goods. Turn left and walk to the other
street vendor who I told you to ignore. Give the vendor the dates in exchange
for the willow leaves and copper in exchange for olive oil. Enter the alley to
reach the harbor. There is another street vendor to the right area which takes
some walking to find. Give this vendor the linseed oil in exchange for
mandragore (mandrake) and lentils in exchange for garlic. Talk to him about fan
tree leaves. You will have to cure him first. Return to Djehouty's house and
approach the cauldron near the entrance. Dump bean flour, caraway, bean flour
and juniper berries into to make the remedy. Return to the street and pan
right. Walk all the way to the first vendor you traded with and turn left into
an alley. Find the street vendor at the end of it to cure his bellyache with
the remedy. Your next destination is the harbor area again. There is a door on
the same side as the vendor, the second from when you approach coming from the
streets. It is also nearby the scaffolding if that helps. Inside you will find
the shop mistress. Give her the honey for a beer, then walk around her left
side and approach the guy in the back. You have to talk to the Nubian several
times (includes many scenes) and he will eventually tell you about the trade
permit. The map now has a bright icon for the governor's villa.

At the villa, approach the first guard and he will allow you to pass. Approach
the second guard at the steps and pick the appropriate dialogue to get by:
*You are a warrior, aren't you?
*You look like a fine soldier to me. You must have had adventures in so many
countries.
*My whole life I've dreamed of meeting a warrior...
*Listen, my husband is in there. Let me through.
*My word is equal to the reputation of our country's soldiers...
Enter the house and you will have a third guard stopping you. Back outside, go
through one of the nearby doorways into the garden. Walk around the lake to
find the girl sleeping in the pavilion. Take her drum set and return to the
guard in the house.

The next part involves playing the drums well long enough until the song is
finished. Basically there are two styles the dancer will move. The first is
staying on the left and starting to dance. If she goes back and forth there
then you are playing badly. If you do better she will move in the center of the
room. Playing badly again then will make her return to the left side. By the
end of the song you should still have her dance in the middle or else you must
try again. During the first stage the rhythm is a continuous RRLRL and once she
dances in the middle it will cycle between RRLR and RRLRL. After failing a
couple of times there will be a visual guide for you but it will only appear at
the time when are you supposed to play, thus knowing the rhythm in advance is
still required. In other words, if you try to just follow those lights on the
drum set then it will play too slowly. This part is not very easy.

After finally getting through this you can speak with the governor between the
pillars. Enter the door at the end of the room to the balcony. Talk to the
guard at the governor's door and you can enter it. Pick up the scroll from the
counter and a scene will take over.

After some story you will be in some kind of tomb. Pick up the pickaxe nearby
(you can also check out the body if you care). If you pan around you notice two
lit tunnels. Enter the right one and continue all the way to the end. On the
right wall you will notice a small block to interact with. After doing so,
return to the start and take the other tunnel. You will enter another large
chamber with a cat digging around in the middle. Use the pickaxe on the cat (or
if you interacted with it then the spot it was digging around). Proceed to exit
the tomb.

Back in the neighborhood you will soon be approached by the Nubian who brings
sad news. Enter Djehouty's house and you will automatically run to the roof.
Return to the main room after the scene and approach the left corner to finally
find the fan tree leaves (you can ask the Nubian about it beforehand if you
want more storyline; you can also talk to the kid on the roof). Use the
cauldron in the other corner of the room and dump the willow leaves, mandrake
roots, garlic, olive oil and fan tree leaves. The last ingredient is beer and
it will trigger a mini-game. It is very famous and quite easy but here is the
solution anyway:
* Pour Large into Medium
* Pour Medium into Small
* Pour Small into Large
* Pour Medium into Small
* Pour Large into Medium
* Pour Medium into Small
This will give you the remedy. Walk over to the sick girl in this room and
examine her, then give her the newly-created remedy. You will automatically end
up on the roof and you should now leave the neighborhood (you can talk to the
Nubian for details if you want).

Back at the temple, approach the library entrance (back right looking from the
main entrance) and talk to the guard. He will step aside and you can open the
large gate. Take left doorway and find the Seer lurching behind the tree as
before. Give him the remedy and then talk about the governor. Your last task is
to gather evidence against him.

When you get to the neighborhood and take a step forward the Nubian will
approach you. This will warp you to the governor's villa at night time. Take
the first door into the garden area (else you run into those infamous geese)
and walk along the left wall to a gate. Combine the sleeping potion with the
grain in your inventory and then feed the sleeping grain to the geese. Jump
over the gate and take the steps up to the villa. When you are in the main room
you should go around the right side and towards the back until you reach the
doors to the balcony. There is a guard patrolling outside and if you pay close
attention you will notice him walk by. You want to make sure he has gone to the
left side before you dash out and then quickly pan right and enter the
governor's private quarters. Walk up to the cabinet on the left of his bed to
find a statue inside you can move. This opens up a cabinet on the other side of
the room. Grab the report from the cabinet. You will need to avoid the guard
outside again so stand in front of the door and wait for him to walk left.
Follow him and then dash into the large room and finally outside of the
building. Another guard is now blocking your way, unfortunately, so jump over
the gate near the geese to enter the garden. Turn around and pick up some
pebbles from the ground which you want to throw at the geese. The guard will
come over. This is your chance to take the other door to where the guard was
standing and find the key near the ground in the small alcove opposite. Return
to the guard and walk further into it to spot a door on the right side. You
will automatically use the key to unlock it when you interact with it.

Finally, return to the temple and take the left gate to the granary. Find the
Seer at a nearby palm tree and give him the report to complete the game.

XX.)                    FAQ                                          GXX00
===============================================================================

Q: Is the game related to the first one (Egypt 1156 B.C.) in any way?
A: No, I do not see any connections at all. You do not need to play the first
one for anything related in this game.

Q) Are there similar games like this?
A) Quite a few, as if Cyro went through the world's cultures for some adventure
games. Try Egypt, China (The Forbidden City), Aztec, Versailles or maybe
  Atlantis.

Q: Does the game support the mouse (on the Playstation)?
A: Yes the game supports the mouse and I actually recommend using it if you
have one. Playing with the controller is not necessarily bad in any way.
