SECTION 0 - REVISION HISTORY

12/10/01 - Version 1.1 Released.  Whee!  Flying down the information
super highway at LIGHT SPEEDS!  Fixed some (already) incorrect info,
added class bonuses, and spelled DHARMA correctly.

12/9/01 - Version 1.0 Released.  Basic information out there.

SECTION 1 - INTRODUCTION
##################################################

I won't try to lie to you.  I hate Dragon Warrior VII.  It is, quite
possibly, the most arduous, tedious, laborious RPG I've ever played.
I find no redeeming value in this game.  It is not fun, nor is it
entertaining.  Considering how much I liked its Nintendo
predecessors, it was quite a let down.

*is still bitter about this game, needless to say ^_^*

Anyway, if you've ever tried to master a character class in the
game, you can imagine what compiling a guide like this is like.
Considering how difficult it is to raise a character in ANY class,
doing something like this is downright insane.  It's far from
complete (Monster classes too?  Give me a break, Enix), and any help
I could get is much appreciated.

There are 54 character classes - ten basic classes, seven
intermediate classes, three expert classes, and thirty four monster
classes.  This guide, so far, covers the twenty four regular
classes.

How the class system works:

When you free the land of Dharma, you get access to the class
change system.  There are ten basic classes you can pick from
at first.  Each class is unique in its own way, and actually
changes your stats accordingly, E.G:  A character in the mage
increases maximum MP, but decreases defense.

There are 8 ranks in every class.  The higher the rank, the
more spells and skills you learn with that class.  To
increase your rank, you have to fight a certain number of
battles.

When you reach rank 5, a character becomes "matured" in that
class.  If you're lucky, you'll get a special skill, which
combines the attributes of one class into your new matured
class.  It never occurred to me to compile a list of them (since
it seemed very random at the time), so that information is
missing from this guide.

When you reach rank 8, a character has "mastered" that class.
That means you can't learn any more from that class.  It's
maxed out.

Now, if you have two or three classes that are able to combine
with each other, then you'll be able to get access to a higher
level class, in this case, intermediate.  There are seven
intermediate classes.  Taking it one step further, you can
also combine intermediate classes to have expert classes.  Now,
don't go thinking that getting to an expert class is easy.  It
requires lots of leveling up, and many, MANY battles to have
mastered (we're talking in the thousands here).

Also, there's also something built into the programming of
the game that hampers significant class growth.  You're not
allowed to fight monsters that are significantly weaker than
you.  I tried going back to Rexwood and leveling up after I
had freed Dharma Temple and soon realized I got nowhere fast.

As a general overview, this class system is a great idea, but
it's executed hideously.  Some classes are simply looked over,
because they offer not as many options as the others.  They
might be easier to master, but that's because they don't
offer much thereafter.  If you're looking for characters to
get to an expert class, then make sure you pick classes
that offer good compatibility with other classes (see tips
section).

I think that's everything, so let's head onto the classes.

Three Intermediate Classes + Hero Heart = Hero

SECTION 6 - MONSTER CLASSES

Coming soon, at some point.  Hopefully.

SECTION 7 - TIPS
##################################################

* Apparently, all the number crunching I did was in vain
when I said you need "three intermediate classes".
You can either change your character to the Hero class by
mastering three intermediate classes, or two intermediate
classes and one expert class.  So, that means that the
fastest way to promote someone to the hero class is to
master Godhand.  That requires 1150 battles.

* If you absolutely must have a certain class in your party
(say, Godhand), then train GABO to get to that class.  Everybody
else either leaves the party or (re)joins too late for them
to be of any use except Gabo.  If you want to get to an
advanced class, Gabo is your man.  That is, of course, assuming
you want the Hero to be a hero class.  And why wouldn't you?

* Don't waste time leveling up your characters with classes
you don't need!  Determine in advance what classes you think
they should be and work with that.  You can't afford to waste
time in such a way that you think leveling up Melvin to be a
thief is a good idea when you want to make him a TeenIdol.
It pushes you farther from your goal of getting to the better
character classes.

* Since certain characters can only equip certain items, and
classes have no bearing on what you can and cannot equip, you
might have the idea to try balancing out stats to eqiupment.  I
tried it with Maribel, and it wound up being a complete
waste of time.  Hero-as-Mage was inflicting more damaging
attacking anyway, despite Maribel being in the warrior class.
It might work for you, but I seriously doubt it.

Thanks to Richard Bolender <[email protected]> for
informing me on the mastery and class bonuses, and
that you can either master 3 intermediate classes or
one expert class and two intermediate classes to
promote to the Hero class.

Can you tell this game has made me extremely bitter?  Ah well.
That's life, I guess.

Thanks for reading, I appreciate it.  I hope that this guide
helps you.
