Preface:

This is a Japanese game, but Japanese literacy is not really necessary as I
will provide translations for everything important.  Also, it's a racing game,
getting to the finish line first is the same in every language.

Game Basics:

This sections goes over the basics of Choro Q Marine.

###############################################################################
G-1

Introduction to Choro Q Marine:

If you haven't played this game yet, you're probably wondering "What is Choro
Q Marine"?  That's a good question.  According to the game itself, "It's a
Battle Race!", and indeed, the game does involve a fair bit of racing and
battling.  But there's also a ton of exploration and other things as well.

At its core, Choro Q Marine is a boat and submarine racing game.  It also has
a mission mode, where you have to accomplish various tasks like putting out
fires on oil refineries and sinking giant battleships.  It's also a Choro Q
game, but unlike most other Choro Q games there is no vehicle customization in
this game, instead there are a massive amount of boats and subs to earn (143 to
be exact, henceforth I'm just going to refer to them as boats for simplicity),
and earning all of them is really the game's main goal.

One of the ways you earn boats is to explore the courses, as there are a lot
of hidden chests containing additional boats, and exploration is also necessary
to unlock the final set of missions and view the ending of the game (yes, this
is a racing game with an actual ending).  But don't think that takes the focus
away from the combat racing action, as some boats are also unlocked by
achieving extremely fast times on the game's courses.

Basically, this is a game that's largely unlike anything else out there.  The
graphics are a little dated now and the framerate isn't as solid as it could
be, but the music is still good and it's a very unique experience.  I guess you
could see this as being somewhat like Choro Q HG2 (Road Trip) in that part of
the appeal is largely that I guarantee you haven't played anything like this
before.

###############################################################################
G-2

Controls:

Dpad / Analog Stick - Steering.  Subs can steer up and down as well.  Note that
                     they have an inverted Y axis, so you hold up to go down.

>< - Accelerate.  Accept in Menus.

() - Fire picked up weapon.  Accept in Menus.

[] - Brakes.  Reverse when stopped.  Cancel in menus.

/\ - Change camera mode.  Choose a boat from your collection in menus.

L1 - Power turn left

R1 - Power turn right

L1 + R1 - Turn about (quickly turns you around)

L2 - Look behind

R2 - Fire cannon

Select - Pause menu

These mechanics are all fairly straightforward except for the power turn.
The power turn mechanic essentially functions as a "drift" of sorts, when you
hold down the power turn and turn the ship, the ship will turn, but your
momentum will not change, so you will continue moving in whatever direction
you were going already.  When you release the power turn, you will immediately
begin travelling in the new direction.  So begin the power turn before you
reach the curve, then release it when you get to the middle of the turn.  This
is really the only way boats with poor handling can take corners.  Subs can
power turn as well, and they can also angle up and down while doing it.

As for the weapons you can pick up, scattered about the course are various
additional weapons you can pick up and use.  These pickups only spawn once per
race, and only your ship can get them, so try to make good use of them.  The
most important powerups are the Big Arrow, which is Turbo, the little boat with
the arrow going under it, which is Super Turbo, and the Boat with the circle
around it, which is Shield.  The other powerups are all various types of
weapons that you fire in front of you and they hinder people if you can hit
them.

Menu Translation:

Main Menu:
===============================================================================

This is the menu that is shown when you turn the game on.

New Game
Continue
Multiplayer
Options
Promo Video
View Cutscenes

Fairly straightforward.  Continue will prompt you to load a file from the
memory card if chosen at first.  If you have returned to the main menu after
loading a file, it just returns you to the game menu.

The Options menu doesn't really have anything too important, it's mostly stuff
like sound volume and music on or off.

The Promo Video lets you see an advertisement for Deep Sea Adventure: Kaitei
Kyuu Panthalassa no Nazo, a submarine-based adventure game also made by Takara.
It looks the subs control in largely the same manner they do in this game,
and might be worth checking out, but I haven't played it.

View Cutscenes is only available after you load a file and return to the main
menu.  It lets you see the cinema scenes you've seen already.

Game Menu:
===============================================================================

This menu is shown after loading data or beginning a new game.

Free Run       Race           Extra
Status       Mission      Save / Load

Free Run is a practice / time trial mode.  Nothing is unlocked here.

Race and Mission are the main game modes of Choro Q Marine.

Extra holds the Extra Missions, once you have unlocked them.

Status shows what boats you've collected and your best records.

Save and Load is used for file management.

Save / Load Screen:
===============================================================================

When selecting a file, you'll be given 3 options.

Save
Load
Cancel

If you pick Save or Load, you'll be prompted to confirm.  The top choice is
Yes.  If the file is blank, you'll only have the option to Save or Cancel,
similarly when loading at the beginning of the game only Load and Cancel are
available.

Pause Menu:
===============================================================================

Resume
Quit Race
Restart Race

Yes, unlike virtually every other racing game, Restart Race is at the bottom.
After a race, you'll see a replay, press any button to bring up the menu,
and here the top option is "Stop Viewing the Replay".

Boat Statistics:
===============================================================================

This isn't exactly a menu, but it's the statistics screen that's shown when
choosing a boat.

Boats and subs are rated in four stats, shown as a bar graph.  The longer the
bar, the better.  The four stats are:

Acceleration
Top Speed
Handling
Weight

Acceleration is how fast the boat reaches its top speed.

Top Speed is the maximum speed the boat can attain.  Note that the
top speed does not actually vary all that much between most boats, but even
a difference of 1 knot in top speed can be significant over a long race.

Handling is how well the boat can turn, and its ability to maintain speed
when doing so.

Weight is the boat's resistance to enemy fire.  A light boat is sent flying
when shot while a heavy one is barely affected.  Don't underestimate this stat,
your opponents are total psychopaths who live only to fill you full of holes.

Race Mode:

Progression in Choro Q Marine is broken up into two modes, Race Mode and
Mission mode.  Each mode consists of multiple courses, and you must complete
every race and mission in a given set to unlock the next one.  This
basically forces you to alternate between the two modes throughout the game.

In Race mode, the goal is, naturally, the reach the finish line first.
However, this is a Choro Q game, so you won't be able to win most races at
first because the boats you have won't be fast enough.  You only need to
place third or higher to proceed, and this will have to do until you get better
boats.  Once you have better boats, press Triangle on the boat selection screen
to switch to one of those instead of the crummy default boats.

Each race in Race mode has a whopping 9 boats to unlock.  The three boats that
are made available for you to choose from when you start the race will be yours
as soon as you successfully place in the top 3.  Every race (except the first)
also has 3 hidden chests on the level that contain 3 more boats.  You can also
gain one additional boat for placing first.  Finally, there are two "World
Record Times" per course, and beating them awards you a boat.  The harder of
the two times is typically extremely strict and generally requires the use of
the fastest boats in the game.

Throughout the races, you also need to keep an eye out for the Ocean Gems,
which are hidden on the submarine levels.  You need to find all 5 of these to
unlock the final set of missions and beat the game.

###############################################################################
R-1

Set 1:

===============================================================================
Ocean Blue                                                    Boat Circuit Race
===============================================================================

This is a tutorial course and it has no chests.  There's a hidden shortcut
behind a sign near the end of the race, blast it with your cannon or ram it
to open the route (this is how you open all shortcuts throughout the game).

World Record Time - 1:35:23
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since this course is so simple, this is very easy to attain as long as you're
using a fast ship.  Take the shortcut behind the sign on the final corner to
ensure victory.

===============================================================================
Greek Bay                                              Boat Point-to-Point Race
===============================================================================

This is a point to point race, so there are no laps.  This course is also
extremely short and thus you don't have a lot of time to pass other ships.
Pick the fastest ship and fire your cannon a lot.

Chest 1:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inside a ship on the right near the beginning.  Blast the ship to reveal the
chest (this is how you obtain all other chests that are inside things).

Chest 2:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Near the middle of a row of small ships on the left near the halfway point.

Chest 3:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inside a ship on the right side near the end.

World Record Time - 0:32:12
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is simple with any fast ship, just hug the insides of the turns.

===============================================================================
Acropolis                                              Boat Point-to-Point Race
===============================================================================

This course is more complex than the previous one, but it's also longer so it's
easier to take a decent position.  You can blast the columns out of the way
near the middle and cut across the open section of water.  There's also a
shortcut near the end of the race, but it takes a lot of shots to blast it open
and it probably isn't worth it.

Chest 1:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inside the last in a row of four ships on the right near the beginning.

Chest 2:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inside a big ship on the right a little ways past the first chest.

Chest 3:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inside a ship on the right just after passing through the greek columns.

World Record Time - 0:44:50
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This time is very tight and requires a very clean race.  Don't attempt the
shortcut, it's slower than going around.  Do blast through the pillars and cut
across to save time, though.

===============================================================================
Beach Resort                                                  Boat Circuit Race
===============================================================================

This is a pretty straightforward course, just try not to run up on the beach.
Sail over the ramp for a speed boost, but be aware you can't turn while in the
air (you can power turn though).  There's a shortcut to the right of the ramp,
and another one where you can shoot out a left turn sign near the end of the
race.

Chest 1:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Near the end of the race are a set of three arrows telling you to turn left.
Just before them a rock juts out of the wall on the left, shoot it to reveal
a little cave that contains the chest.

Chest 2:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Partway through the race, the course narrows and you pass under a ridge.
The chest is immediately to the left when it widens again.

Chest 3:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Partway through the race you'll see a jump in the water.  On the right is a
big rock you can blow up for a shortcut.  There will be many more rocks to
break, and if you get past them all, the chest is there.

World Record Time - 02:28:36
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is tight and requires clean racing, Don't attempt any shortcuts, use
the jump on every lap, and make sure to use the two turbos near the end on
laps 1 and 2.

###############################################################################
R-2

Set 2:

===============================================================================
Beach Cave                                                    Boat Circuit Race
===============================================================================

The beginning of this course is the same as the previous one, but you'll pass
through a cave this time.  The cave is quite narrow, so unless you're very
competent with the power turn, use a ship with some handling.  You'll also be
introduced to the horribly annoying gates here, which block part of the track
and switch sides every few seconds.  You have to get used to the timing and
switch between gates when necessary.  Never shoot an opponent who's stuck on
them, you'll just blast them right over the gate.

Chest 1:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the open area with the jump, it's hidden behind some rocks on the right.

Chest 2:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stick to the left wall when you enter the cave, there's a hidden alcove that
contains a treasure chest.

Chest 3:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After exiting the cave, it's hidden behind some rocks on the left.

World Record Time - 3:08:46
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is probably the hardest time to achieve in the whole game, as there are
no tricks to running this race fast, you just have to do it perfectly.  Make
sure to take the jump on every lap and take all turns on the inside, and watch
out for the gates.

===============================================================================
Jungle River                                                  Boat Circuit Race
===============================================================================

Boat Circuit Race.  There's a lot of hazards here, particularly those stone
gates that can cost you a ton of time if you miss the entrance.  Handling and
weight are useful here.  Remember, you can blast logs, rocks, trees, and
most other annoyances with your Cannon rather than going around them.

Chest 1:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you reach the first set of stone walls, turn around.  On your right is
a stone wall amid natural walls, blast it to reveal a hidden detour.  Head
left at the fork for this chest.

Chest 2:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After passing through the first set of stone walls, turn left immediately for
this chest.

Chest 3:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you reach the waterfall, look to the left for a white splash along the
water.  Cruise into it to find the detour with the chest.

World Record Time - 3:44:98
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This one is fairly easy.  There's two turbos, one near the beginning and one
near the waterfall, make use of them and try not to hit any logs or trees and
you should finish with decent time to spare.

===============================================================================
Coral Reef                                               Submarine Circuit Race
===============================================================================

This is your first submarine race, subs can move in all directions, not just
left and right.  Remember, you press down to go up and up to go down.  This
course otherwise isn't very complex.  Keep an eye out for the Ocean Gem here,
you need to get all 5 to beat the game.

Chest 1:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After the first turn, there is a rock you can blow up to the right, behind it
is a short tunnel that has the chest at the end.

Chest 2:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Halfway through the stage, you can see it amidst some shining lights off to the
left.

Chest 3:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Near the end of the stage, you have to go over a big rock, afterwards, turn
around and get the chest.

Ocean Gem:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also near the end of the stage, there is a rock on the bottom right that you
can blow up, revealing a tunnel behind it.  At the end is a strange green
circle, blow it up to uncover the Gem.

World Record Time - 2:51:23
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This one is incredibly generous.  There's 3 turbos, but you probably won't even
need them all.

###############################################################################
R-3

Set 3:

===============================================================================
Asian River                                            Boat Point-to-Point Race
===============================================================================

Boat Point to Point Race.  This race is narrow and nasty, and the ending part
is a nightmare, especially the sudden final turn, which is a T-intersection,
if you don't make the turn you'll just sail on by.  The key to winning here
is really that Super Turbo powerup that appears in the muddy part of the track.
There's a shortcut to the left at the very beginning that contains an extra
turbo, but you have to navigate or blow up some water mills.

Chest 1:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just before you enter the city part, you'll come across some signs telling you
to turn left, turn right instead for this chest.

Chest 2:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After you enter the city, take the first left when the path splits.  The
path will open up a little, and the chest is on the left.

Chest 3:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the next section of the city, stay as far right as possible and you'll find
this chest in a corner.

World Record Time - 1:34:74
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The shortcut to the left at the beginning helps a little, as does the super
turbo you can grab in the muddy part, but this is really all about how well you
can navigate the final section.  The most efficient route is to turn right at
every fork, and make sure you don't miss the turn into the end of the race.

===============================================================================
Deep City                                                Submarine Circuit Race
===============================================================================

Another fairly easy submarine course.  Near the end is an overpass, you can
shoot out the support columns to make it easier to navigate.  There's also an
anchor on the right that conceals a shortcut.

Chest 1:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Near the beginning of the race, you'll enter a tunnel, on the left near the
end is a fallen train, blow it up for the chest.

Chest 2:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Under the overpass, there's an anchor on the left wall.  Shoot it out to
reveal a little hidden area with the chest.

Chest 3:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Near the end of the course, you'll pass over a highway.  There's a broken
part, if you cruise into the gap and turn around you'll find this chest.

Ocean Gem:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the area with Chest 2, shoot out the left wall to find the Ocean Gem a
little farther in.

World Record Time - 2:47:46
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This one is really generous.  Take the shortcut, or don't, it doesn't really
matter.

###############################################################################
R-4

Set 4:

===============================================================================
Castle River                                                  Boat Circuit Race
===============================================================================

This course is very narrow, but the turns actually aren't very sharp.  If you
make good use of the power turn, you don't need much handling here.  Note that
the canoes in the first part of the race cannot be blown up, unlike most other
obstacles.  There's a big shortcut hidden behind a brick wall after the third
canoe.

Chest 1:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Near the beginning of the race there's a very small channel to the left that
houses this chest.

Chest 2:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just after you pass the third canoe, there'll be a suspicious brick wall on
the right.  Blow it up, then blow up another wall on your right and take a very
long detour for this chest.

Chest 3:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you pass under the overpass, turn left into the first arch for this chest.

World Record Time - 3:25:60
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is probably impossible without using the shortcut, but if you use the
shortcut, it's easy.  Don't worry if you have trouble getting into the
shortcut, it shaves off so much time you can afford to throw away a second or
two getting into it.

===============================================================================
Jurassic Sea                                             Submarine Circuit Race
===============================================================================

This course is long and very hard, you'll take a lot of scrapes trying to duck
under gates and go around obstacles.  In the middle is a horrible part where
you pass through a dark tunnel with the ribcage of some giant creature.
Keep firing your cannon and follow the creature's spine to make it out of here.
Acceleration is very helpful here, as is handling.  There's a shortcut on the
left just before you enter the ruins, and there's a speed ring near the start
that you can pass through for a little boost.

Chest 1:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Near the beginning of the track you pass under some gates and the walls go from
brown to green.  Just before the walls turn brown again, look towards the lower
right, there's a red-coloured tunnel you can dive into to find this chest.

Chest 2:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just before you enter the dark cave, blow up the wall on the lower right to
expose a tunnel that contains this chest.

Chest 3:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you reach the end of the track, you'll find a giant T-Rex, the chest
is under his massive jaw.

Ocean Gem:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you reach the ruins, take the second right for a little dead end, blast
the wall at the end to uncover a hidden tunnel with the gem inside.

World Record Time - 4:38:70
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is quite generous, but this course is hard so it takes some work anyway.
On the first lap, don't take the shortcut so you can take the turbo, then
on laps two and three take the shortcut through the black wall near the ruins.
Navigating the ruins well is completely essential to getting a good time.
Note that there is a turbo in the ruins and one immediately afterwards on the
left, but make sure you don't accidentally grab another powerup afterwards and
lose it.

###############################################################################
R-5

Set 5:

===============================================================================
Ice River                                                     Boat Circuit Race
===============================================================================

Another long and nasty track that demands mastery of the power turn.  Weight is
also useful as the straights are long and you'll get shot a lot.  Be wary of
the ice cannon at the end, its shots are virtually unavoidable and if it hits
you, you can't accelerate at all for a while.  Save a bomb to regain the lead,
then weave through the triple gates for victory.  Alternatively, there's a
shortcut along the left wall just after the second jump that you can use to
skip the ice cannon altogether, but watch out for the icebergs here.

Chest 1:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just after the 1st jump, you'll come to a second tunnel.  It turns to the left,
but shoot the wall to the right instead to reveal a tunnel with this chest.

Chest 2:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Near the end of the level, the tunnel opens up and stalagtites hang from the
ceiling.  Hug the left wall for this chest.

Chest 3:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just after chest 2, you'll come out of the tunnel.  Shoot a piece of ice along
the left wall to expose a chest behind it.

World Record Time - 4:50:58
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The shortcut after the second jump is vital, as the ice cannon will slow you
down too much.  Be careful of those moving ice blocks, though, they can REALLY
mess you up if they hit you, don't be afraid to go around.

===============================================================================
Iceberg                                                  Submarine Circuit Race
===============================================================================

This race is long and narrow, but the turns are gentle and the obstacles easily
avoided.  Speed wins the day here.  You can pass by the blockers near the end
of the race on the bottom left or right or just plow right through them if you
have high acceleration.

Chest 1:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Near the beginning, a strange blue rock juts out of the wall on the left.
Blast it and head through to find both the Ocean Gem and this chest.

Chest 2:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Near the end of the track you'll come to a place where ice blocks smash up
and down.  There's a chest hidden behind the second one.

Chest 3:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just past the three blockers lies another strange rock on the left, blast it
to uncover the path to this chest.

Ocean Gem:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is in the same place as Chest 1.

World Record Time - 5:23:11
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No tricks here, this level is long but not hard.  To avoid the three spinners,
hug the bottom left of that area.

###############################################################################
R-6

Set 6:

===============================================================================
Volcano Heat                                                  Boat Circuit Race
===============================================================================

This is it, the final boat race, and it's a doozy.  This track has many tight
turns, a series of three nasty jumps where you can easily get stuck, followed
by a narrow squeeze between a wall and some lava.  There's a shortcut on the
right before the three jumps you can try to use, but really this one is going
to come down to how well you can control that first boat they give you.  Its
speed is virtually essential to win, and it is an extremely good vessel if you
can master it, but it's not easy to use on a track like this.

Chest 1:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inside the second cave (the one with the falling rocks), turn left for a secret
path at the end of the cave.  However, there is a wall blocking your way that
has to be opened using the switch by chest 3.  Inside is the chest and another
switch that opens up a shortcut later in the track.

Chest 2:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As you pass through the tunnel after the signs that block your path, there's a
hidden path on the left just before the tunnel ends.  You can bash through the
wall and find a chest.

Chest 3:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mere inches before the finish gate, pull a hard right to find a passage through
the wall.  Inside is the chest, and a switch that opens the path to chest 1.
Ram into the switch to activate it.

World Record Time - 3:40:36
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is actually not hard if you can run the race fairly cleanly.  Don't bother
with the shortcuts, just make sure you line up all three jumps and watch the
lava on the right after the third jump.

===============================================================================
Hot Cluster                                              Submarine Circuit Race
===============================================================================

Despite being the final race, this is not particularly hard.  This race is
quite open for the most part, and you can actually pass through those walls of
lava in the middle part of the race with very little penalty.  The only tricky
part is at the beginning, where you have to climb a tight tunnel and then leap
out of the water before diving into the tunnel again.

Chest 1:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Turn left the moment the race starts, there's a chest inbetween the alcoves
in the starting platform.

Chest 2:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After you pass through the two narrow tunnels at the start of the race, you'll
come to an area where the path widens.  On the left is a little dead end,
blast the wall to uncover this chest and the Ocean Gem.

Chest 3:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just before you reach those strange green watermelons at the end of the race,
there's a wall on the left you can blow up that leads to the chest.

Ocean Gem:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is in the same place as Chest 2.

World Record Time - 3:59:97
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This race is easy, but the time here is ludicrously tight.  There's really not
much advice but to run the race smoothly, grab the turbo just after you come
out of the part with the jump, go above the watermelons, and pick Dolphin Star
for its greater speed while cornering.

Mission Mode:

Mission mode is the other main gameplay mode in Choro Q Marine.  Unlike Race
mode, here the objectives of each course vary dramatically, though the one
common element is that they all have a timer and finishing faster is better.

Mission mode doesn't unlock nearly as many boats as Race Mode does, you are
given a letter grade based on how fast you finish, but A-ranks don't unlock
new boats.  You aren't allowed to use boats from your collection for these
missions, either, you have to stick to the ones they give you.

Completing Mission mode does unlock the Marine Animals for use in races, which
is a nice extra, but the main point of mission mode is that you need to
complete the missions in each set to unlock the next set of races.

Note that the game does not actually display the A-Rank times, these are simply
the times I attained to get an A-Rank.  The actual requirements may be lower.

###############################################################################
M-1

Set 1:

===============================================================================
Rescue Mission                                                Collect the items
===============================================================================

The goal here is to rescue all of the survivors of a shipwreck.  You don't have
to do anything more to save them than sail over them.

A-Rank time: 75
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Easy, just swim around and pick them up.  You don't really need any kind of
complicated pattern.

===============================================================================
Battleship 1                                                 Destroy the target
===============================================================================

All Battleship missions are basically the same.  You have a little status
symbol for the battleship in the top left and you have to keep shooting various
parts of the ship until it all turns red.  You can't be sunk, so you don't have
to worry too much about getting hit.

A-Rank time: 78
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just pull up alongside the thing and blast away.  No real strategy required.

###############################################################################
M-2

Set 2:

===============================================================================
Chemical Spill                                                Collect the items
===============================================================================

This is similar to the Rescue Mission but much harder.  There's not a lot of
time and there's a ton of things to pick up.

A-Rank time: 88
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Try to clear the area systematically so you don't miss anything, I recommend
doing one loop around the perimeter and then weaving left and right to make
your way towards the top.

===============================================================================
Destroy Balloons                                              Shoot the targets
===============================================================================

Idiots in their hot air balloons are flooding the lake, so you need to blow
them all up, but you can only hit them when they're close to the water.
If you're slow, more balloons will show up.

A-Rank time: 91
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since the balloons are only vulnerable for a short time, the key to doing well
is to position yourself somewhere where you can quickly get at a lot of them
and shoot them from a distance.

===============================================================================
Bonus 1                                                            Win the Race
===============================================================================

This is a nifty little submarine-style race where you control some aquatic
animals.

A Rank: 1st Place
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Your time does not matter, you just have to win.  Don't neglect the Weight stat
here, the animals' "cannon" is probably the most damaging in the game, it stuns
you for quite a long time if you have low weight.

###############################################################################
M-3

Set 3:

===============================================================================
Firefighter                                                   Shoot the targets
===============================================================================

You have to use your cannon to put out the fires.  Be aware that some of them
are on the backs of the oil rigs.

A-Rank time: 72
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's a simple loop once you know where all the targets are.

===============================================================================
Battleship 2
===============================================================================

Pretty much the same as the first battleship mission.

A-Rank time: 65
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You still don't really have to care about getting shot here, so pull up beside
the thing and keep shooting it.

###############################################################################
M-4

Set 4:

===============================================================================
Underwater Pipeline                                           Collect the items
===============================================================================

Follow the undersea pipeline and touch the little dots along the way.  A fish
bothers you, but he's not a major concern if you go fast.

A-Rank Time: 133
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tracing the pipeline is hard, but it's generous enough that you can make a
couple mistakes.

===============================================================================
Minefield                                                     Shoot the targets
===============================================================================

This is a submarine stage where you have to destroy the floating mines with
your torpedos.  Unfortunately, they have enormous blast zones, and you have
limited health for once, so you must shoot from very far away.  This makes it
hard to see what you're shooting at and the stage is huge, making it easy to
miss some.

A-Rank Time: 161
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is hard.  The stage is basically a big loop with a couple dead ends, and
two of the mines are on the "walls" of the stage.  You'll have to do this quite
a few times until you learn exactly where they all are.

===============================================================================
Bonus 2                                                            Win the race
===============================================================================

Another Marine Animal race.

A-Rank: 1st place
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Much the same as the first track except the course is now more open so there's
nowhere to hide.  Pick someone heavy enough to withstand the onslaught.

###############################################################################
M-5

Set 5:

===============================================================================
Dam Repair                                                    Shoot the targets
===============================================================================

First, you have to get inside the dam using the catapults, there's one on the
left and one on the right, a bit behind where you start.  You now have to find
the switches and shoot them to close the dam.  There are 5 switches in all,
3 on the right side and 2 on the left.  After getting all of them on one side,
you have to go back and go out the hole.

A-Rank Time: 180
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Take the catapult on the right first.  Don't forget about the Turn About
command, it'll help save time after hitting a switch.

===============================================================================
Battleship 3                                                 Destroy the target
===============================================================================

You'll be bombarded much more this time, but it still doesn't really matter.

A-Rank Time: 68
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's still the same basic idea as always.

###############################################################################
M-6

Set 6:

===============================================================================
Icebreaker                                              Clear a path to the end
===============================================================================

You have to clear a path through the ice to the goal and guide the other ship
to it.  Breaking the ice is a matter of shooting and ramming it, just mash
the cannon and bash into it until it breaks.  Try not to lose the ship,
it should be close behind you at all times if it doesn't get lost.

A-Rank Time: 54
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Getting an A-Rank is solely a matter of taking the right route, as some routes
are much shorter than others.  Make sure to go right after breaking the first
piece of ice, then follow that route to the end.

===============================================================================
Filtration Plant                                           Restore the crystals
===============================================================================

This is an incredibly annoying maze level.  You have to hunt through the level
for the crystals, then bring them to the cylinders of the same colour.  You can
carry several crystals at a time, but you still have to hunt them all down.
A couple cylinders are already filled and are useless.

I actually am going to attempt a map this time, because it's very irritating
without it:  The lowercase letters represent the crystals, the uppercase
letters represent their corresponding cylinders.  There are also a bunch of
doors that I haven't indicated on the map, the darker doors represent cylinder
rooms, and the store room doors have to be blown up with your cannon.

A-Rank Time: 250
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With the map, the optimal route should be fairly obvious, grab the crystals
near the start, then head up and dip left to get the purple and orange
crystals, then head up and complete that loop, grabbing the other crystals and
placing some of them in the process.  From there, just head back to the part
you skipped earlier since you have all the crystals now.

===============================================================================</pre><pre id="faqspan-2">
Battleship 4                                                 Destroy the target
===============================================================================

This is a bit different from the other battleship missions in that this time
you're a sub and you can actually be sunk if you take too much damage.  It
takes a ton of hits to sink you, though, it's unlikely that damage will be a
factor.

A-Rank Time: 56
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You know what to do, just keep firing away.

Extra Missions:

Once you get all of the ocean gems, you unlock the extra missions.  These are
accessed through the top right option on the main menu.  There are no rankings
for these missions, only success or failure.

===============================================================================
Marinoid Race                                                      Win the Race
===============================================================================

This is a simple race vs the Marinoid Ship, but the course is full of obstacles
and your opponent gets a head start.  Keep shooting to destroy the obstacles
and open the gates, and try to grab powerups where you can.  The moment you
have the enemy ship in your sights, start firing your cannon to overtake him.
It's very tough, but if you keep playing it you'll gradually memorize the
course.

===============================================================================
Giant Submarine                                              Destroy the target
===============================================================================

The goal here is to sink this massive submarine.  Really, the only difficult
thing here is figuring our where you're supposed to shoot it to deal damage.
The weak points are the grey parts, on the sides and top.  Also the front and
back, but those are easy to destroy.  When the mission starts, immediately turn
around and start blasting away.  You have to follow it down several tunnels,
which is a bit tricky because you can't dive that deeply, the secret is travel
diagonally in a circle around the edge of the chamber.  You have lots of time
to destroy the sub, even with the constant barrage of shots and how hard it is
to hit some of the segments.

===============================================================================
Last Mission                                                 Destroy the target
===============================================================================

Here, you must destroy the Marinoid Core by shooting the blue parts of the
rotating disc and leaving the red one intact.  However, it has defense lasers
and you can actually get shot down.  This is still very easy, just slowly move
towards the disc and keep shooting.  If you get too close, turn around and move
back to the far end of the arena and do it again.  You should win pretty
quickly if you do it right.

Shooting the red piece as well will give you the game's bad ending, which you
might be interested to see as it has its own cutscene.

Your reward for winning these missions is both the ship that you were using
(the Dolphin Star) and the Marinoid ship, which is interestingly referred as
the "Mad Special", which is the name of the Black Car with the firebird on its
hood that typically wins every race in the other Choro Q games.  These are the
best ships in the game, and they can be used as both ships and subs.  Now you
can go back and achieve those world record times.

Cutscene Viewer:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can unlock a cutscene viewer on the main menu by viewing any of the ingame
cutscenes.  Make sure to get the bad ending too to add it to the list.

Secret Codes:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Completing certain tasks in the game will show you a screen with a password on
it.  I would guess these passwords were once used for some sort of contest,
but with this game being so old it obviously wouldn't be running anymore, so
they're mostly just there to confirm that you completed the game.

If you get all A-Ranks, it shows this number:

195113124

If you unlock all 143 ships, it shows this number:

17215120
