I finished off the [Easy] level commands for all the
characters; next on the list are the solo commands. The solos
will be finished by the time this FAQ reaches v2.0. I'm also
planning to add more information about the characters, along
with Difficulty and Style Ratings.

1. Introduction to the FAQ
[Note: This FAQ does not cover basic aspects of gameplay; I
assume that you have played the game before, and merely wish
to study the command patterns. Therefore, do not expect this
FAQ to be very helpful if you are a beginner. If you want to
learn more about simply how to play, please see another FAQ.]
One of the biggest changes from Bust A Move to Bust A Move
2 was the introduction of unique character commands. In the
first game, all characters used the same commands, making them
virtually the same except for dancing style. Now, each one
gets his or her own command patterns, with some being easier
than others. This Command Patterns FAQ aims to get you
familiarized with the dance commands used in Bust A Move 2.
Each character has a specific "command tree" that determines
which commands you must input to continue dancing. This FAQ
lists the "command trees" for all the characters [including
hidden characters]. Use this key when reading the "command
trees":
U - Up D - Down L - Left R - Right
X - X O - Circle S - Square T - Triangle
Each command line is listed in this format: ?????? ?
The six ?s on the left are the commands to press before the
fourth beat, and the last ? is the command to press on the
fourth beat. The "command trees" group the command lines into
pairs; after each pair of command lines, the combo will either
stop, or continue on to one of two other pairs.
The "command trees" are displayed as a 6-column by 4-row
table of command line pairs. In the sample table below,

the first two command lines directly below the heading "LEVEL
1" are a pair. The pairs are separated by spaces. Some pairs
have the word "end" beneath them; this indicates that the
combo stops at that point.
Your dance combo follows a path going down the "command
tree". You start at the top, with the pair that corresponds
to your dance level. So if you're at Level 3, then your first
command line will be: [RL X].
When you press the final command on the fourth beat, you
may get a "pulsating" command if you time it exactly with the
beat. You can tell if this has happened if the final command
on the command line "pulses" (i.e. grows then shrinks). On the
second command line of each pair, it's important to try to get
a "pulsating" command. If you do, then your combo will proceed
to the pair directly below the current pair, which is worth
more points. If you don't, then your combo will proceed to the
pair below and to the left of the current pair. So on Level 2,
if you get a "pulsating" command on the [UU O] command line,
you'll next move on to [UDU O]. If you don't get the command
to "pulsate", then you'll move on to [RU O].
You have to do well in order to advance your level. Higher
level moves are worth more points. The length of your combo
also affects how many points you get. As you progress, you'll
see words like "4 Combo" or "Cool!" pop up at the bottom of
your screen. "Cool!" means a 6-Combo, "Chillin'!" means a
7-Combo, and "Freeze!" means an 8-Combo. Thus, the combo worth
the most points is the rightmost column under "LEVEL 5", which
would be this:

Below the "command trees" you'll see the commands for the
character's solos. I haven't completely figured out how the
solo "command tree" is branched, but the info here should be
enough. There are four 4-line combos, six 2-line combos, and
three 1-liners. The 4-line combos are labeled as 16 D through
16 A; the 2-line combos are labeled as 8 F through 8 A; and
the 1-liners are labeled as 4 C through 4 A. For these, A is
the highest level. Look at the sample table below.

The commands are listed below the appropriate heading; for 4 C
through 4 A, the commands are listed to the side. The question
marks beneath 8 B and 8 A indicate that those commands are
currently unknown.
Solos usually last for four lines, so you'll start off
with one of the 4-line combos, depending on what your current
dance level is. These combos do not branch, and are always the
same. However, if you miss a line, then you'll be given 2-line
combos and 1-liners to fill in the remainder of the solo. For
example, if you miss the first line of 16 D, which is [R R],
and you have three lines to go, then you'll be given a 1-liner
followed by a 2-line combo. If you miss with only two lines
remaining, then you'll get a 2-line combo only. If you miss
with only one line remaining, you'll get a 1-liner. An example
of how this works is this:

[UR L] <---------- another miss, and back to 4 B
Which commands you get after missing also depends on your
dance level; I haven't yet figured out exactly how it is
determined. One last note: on Kitty-N's stage, you'll also get
a 5-line solo. This will give you a 1-liner followed by a
4-line combo.

20. Dance View Guide
If you've checked out the option Dance View, then you'll
know that this is where you can see a character's moves and
arrange a dance routine, along with several other options.
When selecting dance moves, you'll notice that most of them
are coded by letters. Each of the lettered dance moves, as
well as the Finishes, correspond to command lines in the
"command tree". The table below shows how the moves correspond
to the command lines. If you use the Route feature on the
right side in Dance View, you'll be able to follow along with
the table pretty easily. (Read this table like the "command
tree" tables)

21. Scoring Guide
All right, what did you want to know about scoring? This
section should answer most of your questions.
I. The "Command Tree"
As you know, every time you complete a command line,
you'll be awarded with points. Some command lines are worth
more than others; more specifically, the amount of points you
get is directly related to the dance level and the combo count
of the command line. Examine the table below (read this table
like the "command tree" tables):

As you can see, the command lines placed to the bottom and
right are worth more than those at the top and left. The
combo ends are worth a significant amount of points, so it's
always best to aim for these (they're marked with a * on the
table). Completing your combo should be your primary goal,
especially at Dance Level 5 where a Freeze! could mean close
to 3000 points.
II. The "Pulsating" Bonus
The table reflects the base amount of points per command
line. If you get a "pulsating" fourth beat, you'll get a 30
point bonus. These can easily add up if you're good at getting
the "pulsating" beat, so work on your timing and you can
easily increase your scores by the thousands.
III. The Attack
If you use an Attack and it connects, causing your
opponent to fall, you'll steal 1000 points! This results in a
2000-point swing, which can be very useful in a close game or
can really help you boost your Dance Level.
A well-timed Attack can also steal your opponent's chance
at a solo. If you're opponent is down when the solo starts,
you'll take their solo! This is a huge advantage, since solos
are worth a lot of points, and your opponent will have no way
of making up for the loss. Doing this will double the length
of your solo, turning a 2-line solo into a 4-line solo, and a
4-line solo into two 4-line solos!
IV. The Special Meter
There are three Specials during a combo: Cool!, Chillin'!,
and Freeze! At the middle of the bottom of the screen, there
are some colored bars. This is the Special Meter. Each color
corresponds to a Special; green is Cool!, red is Chillin'!,
and blue is Freeze! Each column has either 0, 1, 2, or 3 bars.
Whenever you get one of the Specials, one bar of that color
will get added to the Special Meter. When all three columns
have the same amount of bars, the Meter will flash. This is
when you can get a lot of points! If you break the Meter by
getting another Special (it doesn't matter which), you'll be
awarded a point bonus!
V. The "Miss" Combo
This is pretty funny. If you miss a command line (by
pressing the wrong buttons; if you don't press anything, it's
not a miss), it'll start counting towards a combo. If you miss
6 times in a row, your character will complete the combo and
pose - and you'll be awarded 1 point!
VI. How the Dance Level Works
Your Dance Level is a measurement of how well you're doing
and also determines what command lines are available to you.
Your Dance Level also affects whether you get a Fever Time at
the end of the level. If you're at Level 5 after the last beat
of the song and you've got more points, then you'll get a
Fever Time. If both players are within 1000 points and are at
Level 5, then they'll get a dual Fever Time.
Your Dance Level corresponds to the amount of points you
have. Once you reach a designated amount of points, you'll
advance one Dance Level. These differ from level to level,
based on how many beats are in the song. Below is a list of
the stages and what the point cut-offs are. The stage will be
listed followed by 4 columns of 3 numbers. Each column
represents the transition between Dance Levels, as shown by
the arrows above the columns. The top 2 numbers in each
column are a low and a high; the actual cut-off is somewhere
between the two numbers. At the bottom of each column is a
number in parentheses - this is my best guess at the actual
cut-off.
