1.1 - Introduction
------------------

Welcome to my Unreal 2004 strategies FAQ. It will provide you with helpful
tips, hints and strategies for weapons, vehicles and general strategies. It is
aimed at beginners to intermediate level players (Advanced players will
probably know everything in this guide already). I will not be telling you
about exact stats of weapons and re-fire rates because once you've played for a
while you get a feeling of how powerful a weapon is or how fast it is. If you
want that kind of information, look for another FAQ. I will also not be telling
you about level strategies because I'm not so good at that, there are a lot of
levels and you will probably download levels that I don't have anyway.

Sorry for anybody who sent me anything to my old address, I didn't realise I had
not changed it in the FAQ. Sorry for any inconvience that may have caused.

Contact Info
------------

You can e-mail me at [email protected] but please guys, only
constructive criticism. If it isn't going to help me just keep your opinions to
yourself. If you have any errors you would like to report, go ahead. If you
have any more strategies and tips you want to add, I would appreciate it and I
will give you credit for any help you give me. If you give me crap and continue
to bombard me, I'll just block you, so don't bother.

Oh let's get this over with. You may not copy anything out of this guide or the
whole guide unless you get my permission first. If you want to put this guide on
your website you also need to get my permission. Just ask me what you want to do
with it and I'll let you know. I probably will say yes, it's just more fame for
me :). If I find this on any page that I haven't given my permission to then I'm
going to sue you, or something. Yeah, so just don't do it and get my permission
first, it's not that hard you know. Just e-mail me at [email protected].
Now with that out the way, lets get on with it.

------------------------
2.1 - Some helpful hints
------------------------

Go wild - Might not sound like much of a helpful hint. However in Unreal 2004
you need to be constantly moving, your movements erratic and
unpredictable. This makes you a very hard target. This is also not
Counter Strike, there's no crouching and sneaking here. This means
that you jump off a ledge shoot your enemy in the top of the head and
land while taking minimal damage. What I'm trying to get at is that
you should try a lot of crazy things and take a lot of risks (but
within reason, don't go jumping off ledges into lava, and things that
will obviusly kill you). Here is another example, you're flying in a
Raptor and firing at a guy on the ground. Can't seem to hit him with
you cannons or missiles? Why not just crash into him? You will kill
him quite easily and quickly. I hope you see my point on this.

Use your Adrenaline : It's there for a reason, so use it! Only use when at full
health (even booster). It's useless if you use your
adrenaline and die just after activation.

Speed : Up, up, up, up. Speed is just useless in 2004, it
used to be my fave in 2003. It's just really
short now (sped up adrenaline drain). Even in CTF
or Bombing Run, it's useless. Rather use booster.

Booster : Down, down, down, down. Booster raises your
health and armour over the time. This can be
very useful in CTF and Bombing Run (More so
than useless speed). If you start getting hit,
Hopefully the booster will cancel out the
damage you're recieving.

Invisible : Right, right, left, left. Totally useless
against bots, but might have an effect on
humans at a distance (at close range, it is
easy to spot someone who is "invisible"). I
can't say that I recommend this.

Berserk : Up, up, down, down. This gives a faster rate of
of fire. It's quite good (especially in Death
Match). This and booster are the only ones you
should use (or speed in rare cases).

When low on health, use a big hitter : If you're low on health, rather take a
risk and use a weapon that that is
likely to kill in a shot or two (like a
Sniper Rifle). Better run the risk of
not hitting than hitting and doing no
damage. This way if you're lucky or
skillful, you score a frag even with low
health.

Learn to strafe : You need to be able to dodge fire and keep your aim on your
target at the same time. You should also learn to keep moving
in one direction and looking in another by using strafing.
Let me try to explain this better, you're moving forward and
now you want to keep moving forward but look to your left, so
you look left and at the same time start strafing right. This
allows you to constantly scan for enemies while you keep
moving towards your goal.

Use your double and wall jump : Most items can't be accessed with the normal
jump, so you need to double jump or if there
is a wall nearby, wall jump. On low gravity
maps, the time that you press jump for your
double jump is much later than on normal
gravity maps. The wall jump is not as useful as
double, just about anything reachable by wall
jump is accessable by double jump, which is
easier. Just in case you were wondering, you
cannot double jump and then wall jump. That's
why wall jump is basically useless.

Use splash damage : Splash damage is damage done to a player by something like
an explosion and not a direct hit. So when you're firing
at someone with a rocket launcher or flak cannon grenade,
don't fire direclty at them, rather fire at the ground or
a wall and let the splash damage hurt them. You do this
because trying to hit someone directly with a rocket or
grenade is a lot harder than hitting the floor around them.

Collect the ammo first : When weapon stay is set to on, collecting the ammo
first and then the weapon is a good idea. This is
because someone may come out of nowhere and steal the
ammo while you're collecting the gun, which would stay
there anyway. A gun is no good if you run out of ammo
half way through a fight. Of course if weapon stay is
set to off, you must always collect the weapon first.

Learn the map : It can be useful in many maps to know the layout and
where abouts of items and weapons. Just playing a map over will
give you a very good feel for the map. Taking a look as a
spectator can also help, but playing the map for real is
better.

Aim ahead : When you're firing at a moving target with a slow weapon
(slow projectile speed, not rate of fire), You need to aim ahead
of your target in order for your fire to meet up with your target.
So if you're firing from the side at someone who is moving forward,
you need to aim ahead in order for him to run into your fire.

Go for higher ground : Firing at someone who is above you is a very unfavorable
situation and you should always try and get above the
other players. When you're on higher ground it is also
easy to dodge fire by just moving back a bit and go back
to your firing position. If the ground you are standing
on is totally opaque (not transparent), you could move
back to dodge fire then move to slightly different
location and pop out to start firing. This way your
opponent has to keep quessing as to where you are going
pop out next.

Beware the weapon switch : When you are not firing and you collect a weapon
it will automatically switch to it (if it's more
powerful). However if you are firing at someone and
you collect a weapon, it will not switch. This is
both a blessing and a curse, you may or may not want
to switch during a fire fight. If you have a junk
weapon, you may want to consider quickly darting
behind a pillar and switching manually. This can be
changed somewhere in the settings, it's called er...
hold on... Ah, weapon switch on pick-up in the
"game" panel.

Don't double tap dodge : You may disagree with this but I find the double
tapping a direction to dodge that way quite a terrible
way to dodge something. It's because of the pause that
you experience when half way between the dodge, it
makes stand totally stationary for a split second. A
split second which could kill you. Just plain old
strafing works better for me. Also when you use the
dodge, you have to think about it before you do it,
maybe this goes away the more you use it, but that
just doesn't work for me. You kind of have to prepare
for it before you do it, which is no good. If this
works for you, then good for you, but if you can't
seem to get to grips with it, just leave it alone.

Never give up the chase : This seems to happen with bots a lot, if you play
with with other players it depends on the player. If
your opponent decides to retreat, chase after him and
never give up unless you can't find him anymore. It's
also quite fun and thrilling to chase after someone
when their running away fast and taking difficult
routes that you have to copy. The thrill of the hunt.
Also try to keep your fire on him at all times no
matter how little you actually hit him, every little
bit of damage helps.

Always use your zoom on vehicles : In most vehicles you can zoom in on your
targets. You should do this whenever you can,
because it makes your aiming much easier.
Especially when you are not driving, if you
are driving, it might not be an option by
obscuring your view. If you can zoom though,
do. It can also help you in compensating for
target movement, for instance : moving your
crosshair to the left a bit when firing at
someone who is quickly to the left.

---------------------
2.2 - Deathmatch tips
---------------------

Use your booster and berserk : I recommend using these two adrenaline combos
for deathmatch. Booster allows you to survive
longer in a fire fight, while berserk allows
you to kill a lot of people who are in a group.

Better you than someone else : What I mean is, even if you are low on health,
you should grap any power-ups, ammo, guns, etc.
Even though you may be about to die, it's better
that you have the stuff and not letting your
opponents get the advantages of the item. Don't
think "Oh, I'll go get that redeemer when I
re-spawn, I'll just die if I get it now."
because it'll be gone by the time you've
re-spawned and someone else will the advantages
that item brings.

Keep a look out : In deathmatch everyone is your enemy, so your enemy could
come from anywhere. Keep a constant look out behind you and
from anywhere enemies may come from (remember my learn to
strafe tip).

--------------------------
2.3 - Team Deathmatch tips
--------------------------

Leave something for the rest : The opposite of my "better you than someone
else" tip for deathmatch. Grab only what you
need and leave something for your teammates.
However, if none of your teammates are present,
better not leave it to chance and just take it
for yourself.

Make a pack : A team should always stick tohether, a group is much better at
killing than one person. If you are all spread out and the enemy
decides to use this tactic, they will pick you off like flies.
If you play with bots, press V and tell everyone to back you up.
If you play with other people, try and organise something with
the other players.

Don't take unneccesary risks : If you kill yourself in team deathmatch, you
lose a point for your whole team, not just
yourself like normal deathmatch. So don't let
the team down by being careless and reckless.

----------------------------
2.4 - Double Domination Tips
----------------------------

Hold the fort : Once you've gained control over a control point, defend it!
Don't go through all that trouble only to lose the control
point again. It only takes someone to tap your control
point to cancel out the count down for a point.

Sit on the points between rounds : When someone scores a point, there is a
pause that allows you to get to one or both
of the control points and sit there. Once
the new round starts you can take control of
the control point immediatly. Try and get
your teammates to go to the other control
point while you and maybe someone else go to
the one control point, you both take
control of the control points very
quickly and try to defend them with all
your might.

---------------------------
2.5 - Capture the Flag tips
---------------------------

Attack in a group : When you try to steal the enemies flag, try and attack in a
group. This way you stand more of a chance getting the
flag, and if the person carrying the flag drops it, there
are some people nearby to quickly get it. You can also try
absorb damage for the flag carrier.

Use your booster and speed : Booster will help you take a lot of damage so you
can just take it until you get back to your flag.
Speed can help in some situations, for instance :
you need to get out a base with the enemies flag
very quickly. You could also use speed to put some
distance between you and your enemy, but this
would only work when there are lots of corridors
and a little distance goes a long way. If it's in
a big open map, this would not work.

Use a sniper to cover the flag carrier : If the map permits, it may be a good
idea to assign someone as a sniper to
cover the flag carrier as he comes
back to the base. If the flag carrier
drops the flag, the sniper can cover
the area and stop the enemy from
retrieving their flag. These tips
though, require a very skilled sniper.

----------------------
2.6 - Bombing Run tips
----------------------

Pass the ball to your enemy : "Huh?" You might think. Want I mean by this is,
when you have the ball, you cannot fire. So when
faced with an enemy, you can pass the ball to him
stopping from firing. Then you can kill him and
take the ball back.

Pass when you're about to die : If you're going to die soon, try and pass the
ball to a teammate. If no one is close by, the
best thing to do may be to just throw the ball
as hard as you can in the general direction of
the enemies goal.

Work as a team : Attack as a team and pass frequently in order to work your way
towards the enemy base. You can also leave your translocator
at your base so you can get back quick if someone slips past
you.

------------------
2.7 - Assault tips
------------------

Work as a team : That's the only advice I can give you because each map is
different. Ah who cares? This game mode sucks anyways. It's
not like anyone plays it. You know this used to be the best
in the original UT, but now it's messed up.

--------------------
2.8 - Onslaught tips
--------------------

Charge the first node quick : If there is only one node connected to your core,
get a fast vehicle and get to the node pronto.
Then charge it up as quick as possible. Get your
teammates to help you charge. If two nodes are
connected to your core, split the team in two and
do the same. You could also have some people
waiting near the node that will be available
after you charge the first one up. The team who
charges their first node first gets an early
advantage.

Destroy the connecting node : When your powercore is being attacked, don't try
and defend the powercore, rather attack the node
that is allowing them to attack your core. You
should still leave some people to defend the core
though. If two cores and conncected to your power
core, destroy the one then the other while still
leaving some people to defend the core (more
important when there are two connected nodes).

Defend your connecting node : Complete reverse of the above tip. When you get
a node that connects your enemies core, defend it
at all costs! It's your only link to their core.
Of course don't concentrate all your efforts on
defending the node, you need to attack their core
as well. If you have two nodes that connect to
their core, then just attack all out. Maybe the
enemy will be to busy defending the core that
they ignore my above tip. If they don't ignore my
tip, you should still get lots of damage in
before they destroy both nodes.

Bail : If your vehicle is low on hit points, better bail out quick. Even if no
missile lock warnings occur, it's a good idea because other fire might
hit you without any kind of warning. Another advantage of this tip is :
an enemy might try to hijack the vehicle (he will not be able to see the
hit points of the vehicle, although he may see smoke or fire). If he
does hijack the vehicle, you can kill him very quickly. This often works
well if you play with bots (crazy bots just go on a mad run for any
vehciles they see).

Hide and hit : If you can get a good hiding spot where no one will find you,
you can hit an enemy power node without being bothered. Try and
use a weapon that does not give off your positon. An example of
this is in the map Crossfire, the turrets near your base have a
good view of the middle power node.

Move around the power core : When you are attacking the enemy power core, try
and move around the power core to block off fire
and allow you to continue attacking. This helps to
get a few more shots in before you die.

The shields do not help you : The shields I am talking about here are the
shields that surround a power node once it's safe
from attack. You might try and hide inside these
shields, but it won't do you any good because the
fire just comes through anyway.

Repair your nodes : I know that the bots never repair the nodes, If you play
with other players then it depends on the player. If you
see a damaged power node, don't just ignore it and run
straight to most exciting part of the map, repair it, you
need them to win this game. If other people ignore damaged
power nodes, don't follow suit, try and set an example and
try and get other players to repair the nodes as well.
Maybe when other players see you repairing a node they will
come and help you. On that same note, if you see someone
repairing a node, go and help them.

2.9 - Last Man Standing tips
----------------------------

Choose the best weapon for the job : You have access to all of them! Otherwise
just use your favourite weapon.

Play cautiosly : You may notice that there is no health in Last Man Standing,
so you may want to play a little more cautiosly than usual.

Don't try and camp : In this game mode, camping will get everyone's attention
by pin pointing you on their radar. Don't try and fool it
either by making slight movements now and again because
that won't work.

--------------------
2.10 - Invasion tips
--------------------

Stick together : If you stick together you have a better chance of getting
through the round. Try and watch each other's backs. It only
takes one person to get through the round to make everyone
else come back in the next round.

Use the time between rounds : Use it to restock on ammo and weapons, regroup
the team, heal etc. This way you can be fresh
for the next wave.

Try to stay alive : Well this should kind of apply to everything (in just about
every game as well) but very important here. If you die
your teammates have to keep going without you until the
next round. So play a little more carefully here, you can
always run away to regroup and resupply.

------------------
2.11 - Mutant tips
------------------

Kill the bottom feeder : If you are the mutant, try and kill the bottom feeder
because he gives you five points. The bottom feeder
has a turqoise icon above his head. Go for him if you
can.

Remember to change weapons as a mutant : I noticed that when I became the
mutant, I gained access to all the
weapons but it did not automatically
change to the most powerful weapon.
Remember to just change to your
favourite weapon when you become the
mutant.

3 - Weapon Strategies
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
---------------------
3.1 - Shield Gun tips
---------------------
Only Shields one direction : The shield only covers the side you are facing,
even though it looks like it might cover your
whole body.
Use the shield : You can use the shield to protect teammates who are carrying
the flag, ball etc. You could also protect yourself while
searching for a new weapon, or rushing for the flag.
Fire usage : Primary fire is used as a melee weapon while the secondary fire is
the directional shield.
------------------------
3.2 - Assault Rifle tips
------------------------
Get rid of it :Always try and find a new weapon as fast as possible if you find
yourself using this. Sure you can pick up two but it's not like
you'll actually hit anything with them, and if you do, all you
get is your enemies attention.
Bounce the grenades : If you are forced to use this gun, use the grenades
because they are the only thing that does damage on this
gun. It might be more difficult to hit enemies, but at
least you do damage. Also try and bounce the grenades
around corners to avoid taking any damage yourself. You
need to play a careful game with this gun.
Fire usage : Primary fire is used for short range because of it's inaccuracy,
secondary fire is used to bounce grenades around corners and
basically use this until you run out of grenades and then go onto
primary fire.
-------------------
3.3 - Biorifle tips
-------------------
Leave a trail : You can leave a deadly trail of blobs behind you with the
primary fire while you're trying to find a better weapon (You
are trying to find a better weapon right?). However don't place
each blob too close to one another because if you do, one will
explode and cause a chain reaction and make them all explode.
Fire usage : Primary fire is used to cover an area or if you can't aim (you can
just shoot everywhere and hope you hit). Secondary fire is charged
up and you lob one huge ball of deadly biowaste. Use this if you
are good at aiming and can hit your enemy directly.
----------------------
3.4 - Shock Rifle tips
----------------------
Use the combo : In case you don'y know, you can shoot your secondary fire with
the primary fire to create a powerful explosion. Try and shoot
off a few secondary fires, and then try and the one closest to
your enemy. This will take practise however, but is a very
powerful tactic if you can master it.
Backfire : I'm not totally positive about this, but it may be worth a try. If
you are good enough, you can try and hit your enemies secondary
with your primary fire and cause an explosion right next to them. As
I said, I'm not 100% about this so if you have tested it, please
e-mail me and tell me if I'm wrong.
UPDATE : I am very sure this works now, I was fighting someone and
we both had Shock Rifles, he shot a secondary and I
accidentally shot it and it killed him.
Fire usage : Primary fire is used for long range and if you are good at aiming.
Secondary fire is used to cover an area and then see if you can
hit the one that is closest to your enemy.
-------------------
3.5 - Link Gun tips
-------------------
Link and be linked : When another player has the Link Gun equiped, they will
have a green icon above their head. If you see this, then
go and link with them (Secondary fire at them). This makes
their fire more powerful. Hopefully others will follow
suite and join in with you or make their own link with
another player.
Fire usage : Primary fire is used for medium range and the secondary fire is
used for short range encounters. You will have to get a feel for
the range of the secondary fire as it is difficult to tell exactly
how far it is. Best to look at someone firing from the side to get
an idea of the range. The primary fire only goes so far before it
dissapears into thin air, so don't think that they go on for ever.
------------------
3.6 - Minigun tips
------------------
Fire usage : Primary fire is used at close range and if you are bad at aiming.
Secondary fire is used for long range and if you are good at
aiming.
----------------------
3.7 - Flak Cannon tips
----------------------
The combo : This is my personal combo which I like to use a lot. What you do
is, fire a grenade at your enemies feet. This will hopefully send
him flying in a direction. Try and predict the direction or just
wait to see what direction he flies. Then fire a primary fire while
he is in mid air and unable to change direction. This usually kills
anyone who has little or no armour. Of course it takes a lot of
practise to get as good as me :). Also jumping around can also help
to avoid being hit when using this tactic.
Bounce around : Use the primary fire to damage those around corners. Fire at
the wall at an angle and the fire will bounce accordingly. Try
to use this to bounce the fire around corners when you know
there is someone there. I've killed quite a few like this.
Practise will give you an idea about the angle required to hit
and you will learn to estamate how far your opponent has gone.
Fire usage : Primary fire is used at short range and is used as you would use a
shotgun. Secondary fire launches a grenade that also explodes
into fragments on contact. When you need range with your grenade,
jump and then fire the granade. This will give you a lot more
range. This can be used for anything that fires in this manner.
--------------------------
3.8 - Rocket Launcher tips
--------------------------
Aim at the feet : Always aim at your enemies feet or a wall next to him and
damage him with the splash damage I talked about in the
General Stategies section. You stand a better chance of
hitting the floor or the wall than hitting him directly.
Use multiple rockets : Hold the right MB to charge up to three rockets and fire
them in an expanding line. Hold the right MB and then
then press and hold the left MB to fire them in a tight
Spiral. These will cause a lot more damage when fired
for splash damage than a single rocket, but make sure
you waste the time or ammo needed for these combos, make
sure it hits!
Homing device : If you keep your crosshair on a target you should get a bleep
and your crosshair will change. This means you have entered
homing mode and you can fire your rocket and it will home it's
target. I am fairly sure that it is a fire and forget missile.
Fire usage : Primary fire is used when you need to get rockets in different
positions, like covering an area. Secondary fire is used when you
need lots damage in a particular area.
-------------------------
3.9 - Lightining Gun tips
-------------------------
Big hitter : This is one of the big hitter weapons that I was talking about in
the "When low on health, use a big hitter" tip in the General
Strategies. It's high risk because it is difficult to hit with it
at close range, but does lots of damage. It's also possible to get
a head shot if you're lucky.
Use a little zoom : This might or might not work for you. When running around
with this weapon (As in not sniping), just tap the right MB
to give you a small zoom and fire with this. Some might
find it easier to hit like this. This most certainly was
true for the original UT, but I find that this is not so
for me anymore. Try it for yourself and if you like it then
use it.
Fire usage : Primary fire is this weapons only actual fire, very accurate and
powerful. Secondary fire is the zoom which makes it easier to hit
stuff at long range, though this does require skill as a sniper.
------------------------
3.10 - Sniper Rifle tips
------------------------
Big hitter : This is one of the big hitter weapons that I was talking about in
the "When low on health, use a big hitter" tip in the General
Strategies. It's high risk because it is difficult to hit with it
at close range, but does lots of damage. It's also possible to get
a head shot if you're lucky.
Use a little zoom : This might or might not work for you. When running around
with this weapon (As in not sniping), just tap the right MB
to give you a small zoom and fire with this. Some might
find it easier to hit like this. This most certainly was
true for the original UT, but I find that this is not so
for me anymore. Try it for yourself and if you like it then
use it.
Fire usage : Primary fire is this weapons only actual fire, very accurate and
powerful. Secondary fire is the zoom which makes it easier to hit
stuff at long range, though this does require skill as a sniper.
----------------------
3.11 - Mine Layer tips
----------------------
Your own personal army : I love this strategy, it's fun and original although
not always practical. Lay as many mines as you can
before they start blowing up as you fire (8 or 10
I think) Then use the secondary fire to move them
around a short distance in front of you and move with
your little army. When you see an enemy you can target
them by moving the laser to your target. You could
also sit up somewhere high and command your army from
there. Oh yeah, it's definatly 8 mines maximum (I
don't like editing things in the middle of paragraphs
with word wrap off).
Fire usage : The primary fire launches the mines, the secondary fire controls
them by lasering the location you want them to move or attack.
----------------------------
3.12 - Grenade Launcher tips
----------------------------
Launch then detonate : Say you're attacking a power node and you're launching
these at it, then someone tries to interrupt your
peaceful detruction of their node. Don't panic and start
launching one, detonating the one, launching another
etc. Rather launch until you cannot launch anymore, then
detonate. If you die and you have launched one, the one
blows up. If you die and you have launched seven, seven
grenades blow up. See my point?
Fire usage : Primary fire launches the sticky grenades while the secondary fire
detonates them all at once. Don't forget that if you die, all your
grenades blow up, same goes for the mines.
-----------------
3.13 - AVRil tips
-----------------
Always lock on : You can use the right MB to zoom and lock onto a vehicle. This
is very useful because you don't have to manually keep the
crosshair on your target. You can still move around and dodge
fire while locked on, however it may be difficult to see where
you are going. What I like to do is to hold down the right MB
when scanning for vehicles so fire at and it will zoom and
lock-on as soon as my crosshair passes over one.
Lock and run : When firing at turrets, lock on, fire then run away. The turret
ain't going anywhere so as long as the missile was fired on
target, it will hit on target.
Target switching : If the vehicle you where locked on to is destroyed before
your missile reaches it, try and find another target and
lock on quick. The missile will get on coarse for the new
target. On the same note,if the vehicle you where locked on
to dissapears behind a mountain, tower etc, wait for the
missile to pass the obstacle (for instance past the tower
instead of hitting it) and then wait and see if the vehicle
reappears and then send your missile after it again by
re-locking onto it. You can do strange things with the
missile in this way, experiment.
Non-lock on firing : You fire the powerful missile at other things beside
vehicles. For instance, power nodes, power cores, players
etc. Just aim and fire, just make sure that you lock on to
anything afterwards.
Blow them up : If you're being tailed by an AVRil missile, try and hit it with
your vehicles fire, they can be blown up and are not too hard
hit depending on what type of vehicle you are in.
Fire usage : Primary fire launches the missile either lock on or not. Secondary
locks on and zooms in automatically.
--------------------
3.14 - Redeemer tips
--------------------
Evasive maneuvers : When firing with secondary fire, use evasive maneuvers to
to avoid being hit and the redeemer becoming useless. Just
move your mouse in erratic random direction while still
moving in the general direction of your target and then get
on course for your specific target at the last second.
Blow it up : The recieving end of the above tip, try and hit the missile before
it detonates. If your enemy uses evasive maneuvers, then cover the
area with fire and hope luck is on your side and something hits.
Fire usage : Primary fire is used when the target is stationary and there is no
defence against the missile. Secondary fire is used when the
target is moving or there is lots of defence against the missile.
--------------------------------------
3.15 - Ion painter and Ion Cannon tips
--------------------------------------
Better than redeemer : This I find is better than the Redeemer because the beam
is unblockable. The Redeemer can be shot down, while the
Ion beam is cannot be blocked or countered in any way.
The Redeemer though is more powerful (I think).
Make sure the target is out in the open : If you notice that the laser does not
seem to activate (just sits there and
does not fire), then you are probably
not targeting an area that is out in
the open (and the Ion Cannon cannot
reach it). Make sure that the area is
Accessable to the Cannon's beam.
Fire usage : Primary fire shoots the targeting laser that will pin point the
location that the beam should hit. The secondary fire zooms in
with the scope making it easier to target exactly what you want
hit.
---------------------------------------------
3.16 - Target Painter and Phoenix Bomber tips
---------------------------------------------
Carpet Bombing : Unfortunatly, the Phoenix drops bombs in a straight line,
making it useless for bombing targets like power nodes and
cores. The best place to bomb would be a chasm or rift that
has several players traveling down it. The hard part there
would be to estimate where the enemies would be when the bombs
come down. This is a fairly unlikely situation though and
likely you would end up bombing a node or core anyway, so this
weapon ain't so good.
Blow it up : The bombs themselves cannot be blown up, however the Phoenix
bomber can be. I did notice that the Raptors missiles did not lock
on to it, and I am unsure whether the AVRil will do the same.
Don't try and blow up the bombs though it's useless.
Fire usage : Primary fire shoots the targeting laser that will pin point the
location that the bombs should hit. The secondary fire zooms in
with the scope making it easier to target exactly what you want
hit.
------------------------
3.17 - Translocator tips
------------------------
Translocator jump : Launch the Transloactor, and when it reaches it's peak,
Teleport and quickly launch again and teleport before you
reach the ground. This can be a tricky, but useful skill to
have if you can master it.
Don't use the camera : The camera is an interesting addition to the
translocator, but don't use it. Just like the secondary
fire of the Redeemer, using it leaves your body helpless
and unnable to respond if you are attacked. It's not
the camera is that useful anyway.
Shoot enemy Translocators : If you see an enemy Translocator, shoot it to
disable it. Then if the enemy tries to teleport to
it, he will be telefragged and the kill awarded to
you.
Telefragging with the Translocator : This might not always work, but it's funny
if it does. Try and hide your
transloacator in a health pack or ammo or
something. Then when the enemy steps over
it, teleport and telefrag him to get the
kill.
Fire usage : Primary fire launches the disc and the secondary fire transports
you the discs location. To insantly whip out your last used weapon
, hold the right MB to teleport and then press the left MB. Always
use this, it's very useful (One of the reasons I did not like the
Translocator in the original UT). Remember that when you use the
primary fire, to jump before you shoot to give you that extra
height.
4 - Vehicle Strategies
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

------------------
4.1 - Goliath tips
------------------

Wierd aiming : When using the main turret I noticed that when you're not on
exactly level ground, your shot does not correspond with your
crosshair. It may be due to the fact that the turret cannot aim
all the way up. It's something to watch out for when you're on a
slope.

Get a partner : When you're driving the Goliath, you should make an effort to
get someone as your machine gunner. The machine gunner acts as
an anti-air gunner and is used for close range encounters. The
main turret is terrible at anti-air and you will damage
yourself when you try to shoot something close to you. On that
same note, if you see a Goliath without someone as a machine
gunner, do him a favour and hop on board.

Use the splash damage : When using the main turret trying to hit a small target,
remember that you can use the splash damage of the
explosion. The shot is so powerful that the splash
damage will likely kill anything that gets in it's
radius.

Fire usage (Main Turret) : Primary fire shoots a devastating Depleted Uranium
round. The secondary fire zooms in your target and
makes it much easier to aim, but much harder to see
where you're going (Especially against air targets,
but you should rather let your machine gunner take
care of that). Don't try and be a hero, the Eagle Eye
isn't really worth it, you'll just get the pilots
attention and then you're in trouble.

Fire usage (Machine gunner) : Primary fire starts your machine guns while your
secondary fire zooms in. Zoom out to scan for
targets and when you find one you should zoom in
and let rip. Zooming is much more useful for the
machine gunner because he does not have to drive.

---------------------
4.2 - Hellbender tips
---------------------

Get a partner(s) : Try and find someone to sit in the side turret (The shock
rifle one) first and then see if anyone wants to sit in the
rear turret (The funny charge up one). The rear turret is not
so good because it need a lot of accuracy (Even with zoom).
The side turret is a lot better because you can cover an area
and then shoot one to start a chain reaction and damage the
whole area. Start honking your horn to get people to hop on.
This always works with bots, but some players may decide not
to.

Steady driving : When you're trying to shoot at something, it can be a little
difficult if you're in a vehicle that's bouncing around
everywhere. Be wary of this as a driver. It's not really so
important for your side turret, but very important for the rear
turret. You want to avoid being shot but if you're in a
relatively safe position or not being shot at, there's no need
to move around and annoy your passengers. Be wary though that
you and your passengers can be killed before the vehicle blows
up, so that's an excuse to drive like a madman.

Fire usage (Driver) : Horn. That's all you get. You're just a chauffeur.

Fire usage (Side turret) : Primary fire shoots the same fire as the Shock Rifles
secondary fire. Secondary fire shoots the same fire
as the Shock Rifles primary fire. Messed up huh. You
can shoot your primary with your secondary (Opposite
of Shock Rifle) to start a chain reaction of
exploding uh... Ball things. This can be used to
cover an area very quickly and the balls are easy to
hit as well.

Fire usage (Rear turret) : Primary fire charges up the shot and the secondary
fire zooms in. Make sure of your shot before you take
it, it takes a long time before to recharge before
you can take another. This fire seems to be best for
destroying vehicles and nodes etc. These are also
bigger targets which are easier to hit.

4.3 - Manta tips
----------------

The flying Manta : If you jump off a ledge or ramp like cliff, you can go
extreme distances at an extreme speed. You'll fly over almost
all obstacles and get to your destination in no time at all.

Fighting a Goliath or other slow vehicle : If you're fighting a slow vehicle
like a Goliath or Hellbender, use
your speed to your advantage. Go
around them (using your strafing) in
a tight circle that their turrets
can't keep up with and keep your fire
on them. That should take care of
them in no time at all.

Stay low : If you're trying to kill someone by running them over you need to use
the crouch or right MB to descend. If you descend directly over
someone, you get the "Pancake" award. But this is quite difficult and
usually you go straight over them and descend at the wrong time. So
the solution to this is to stay low when trying to run someone over.
This way you don't get the "Pancake" award but you stand a better
chance of hitting someone.

Fire usage : Primary fire shoots straight in front of you but you have some
vertical control (Not much, but some). Bare in mind that the Manta
has quite a slow turning speed, something remember fighting in
tight circles like the "Fighting a Goliath or other slow vehicle"
tip. Secondary fire is the sharp descent that can crush players
and give you the "Pancake" award. You can hold it down to take
sharp descents down cliffs etc, but watch out for the bumps which
damage you (Only a little bit though).

-------------------
4.4 - Scorpion tips
-------------------

About the blades : The blades do snap off if you hit rock or other solid
substance, so keep them closed in confined spaces unless
you're going on a bit of a suicide mission and trying to take
someone with you. When you're trying to hit someone with
them, open them, but still go for the enemy as if the blades
weren't there. So if someone is a little to the left of you,
don't open the blades and expect them to hit, try and hit
them with the actual vehicle. This way, if your enemy moves
a bit the blades will catch them, but if they were already a
bit out of the way and they move, the blades will miss and
you'll have to go back (And that will probably get you
killed).

If you get caught by the strange green line : If you're in a vehicle (Especially
a weak one like the Manta) and you
get a strange green line attached
to you (You know the green line
I'm talking about, the primary
fire), just bail while you still
can. That pause is there for a
reason, this fire is quite
powerful and you probably will be
destroyed unless you've got a full
health tank.

Fire usage : Primary fire charges up and then releases the strange green line.
Make sure that you don't make the line too wide for the situation
otherwise it might get caught on a wall or cliff etc and cling to
wall uselessly. If you're in a wide open area then go for the full
charge, then you have a larger line with which to attach to an
enemy. The secondary fire opens up the blades to cut down infantry.

-----------------
4.5 - Raptor tips
-----------------

Find a weak spot : Mostly for the Goliath, where the weak spot is directly on
top where the main cannon cannot aim. Just hover above him
keep your fire on him. This is the same for the Manta which
also cannot aim upwards, but you can use your missiles for
the Manta anyway. For the scorpion, keep your distance as you
don't want to get a strange green line attached to you. They
are easily dodged at a distance. The Leviathan can be
disposed of easily of you know the right way. If it is
deployed, then this will be a breeze. Just keep a bit of a
distance and when you see the Ion blast coming just move a
bit to the side. If not deployed, it's a little harder. The
missiles it shoots are quite slow and can be outrunned while
maintaning a constant barrage of fire on the Leviathan.

Dogfighting : When you're in a dogfight, strafe and maintain your aim on your
opponent. Use your missiles, but note that the missiles are very
easy to dodge by just strafing full tilt to any side. The missiles
are homing, but are not nearly as good as the homing abilities of
the AVRil. Also note that this, unlike the AVRil, is a fire and
forget missile and you do not need to maintain the lock. The basic
strategy for dogfighting is to just circle your opponent and take
shots with your missiles as accurately as possible (So that the
missile has as little homing to do as possible) but still fire a
missile whenever possible.

Watch out for invisible walls : Watch out for the invisible walls that surround
each level and some even inside the level. If
you hit one, you will slow to a stop and have to
get going again in the opposite direction
(Leaving you rather helpless). Whenever you hit
one, make a mental note of where it is and stay
away from it in the future. I'm not going to
list where each invisible wall is, because I
don't think I know where they all are and it's
difficult to describe the location of something
you can't see.

Fire usage : Primary fire is the Plasma shots. This weapon seems to a good
turret and can fire in almost all directions. Secondary fire shoots
the missiles which only home in on Manta's and other Raptors, not
anything else including Phoenix's.

--------------------
4.6 - Leviathan tips
--------------------

No, the Ion blast is quite harmless : To you that is, definitely not your
enemies. The Ion blast will in no way harm
you or your teammates, only enemies. It
doesn't work the same way as the Goliath
blast which does hurt you (Quite badly
too).

All aboard : Get as many people in your turrets as you can because you're going
to need them to attack what your missiles can't hit (Unlikely) or
when you deploy and can't defend yourself alone. If you see a
Leviathan with any open turrets, then get on board to help with
the survival of the game's most powerful vehicle.

Fire anyway : When you're just driving along, fire ahead with your homing
missiles anyway. They might home in on something you haven't
spotted yet. It can't do any harm, it's not like you a set amount
of ammo or anything.

Deploy and dominate : If there's an area that needs to be defended or held, then
get over there pronto and deploy. Then just fire at the
ground at the point where enemies are likely to be coming
from to keep them at bay. Deploying is not as good for
attacking but you can if you need to attack a power node
or core. Just deploy a fair distance from the target (Make
sure you can still target it of course), deploy and fire
away. Anything that bothers you should be easily taken
down by your turrets or if you're desperate, your Ion
cannon.

Fire usage (Main Ion cannon turret) : Primary fire is the stream of homing
missiles that home in on absolutely
anything and kill them within seconds.
It will also fire the huge Ion cannon once
deployed. Secondary fire deploys the
Leviathan when completely stationary. It
will a beep thing if you can't deploy (
Usually because you are not completely
stationary).

Fire usage (Turrets) : Both firing modes shoot the same green things despite the
manual saying that the secondary fire zooms in. Pretty
strange that we know more about a game than the people
who made it.

----------------
4.7 Phoenix tips
----------------

Blow it up : The bombs themselves cannot be blown up, however the Phoenix
bomber can be. I did notice that the Raptors missiles did not lock
on to it, and I am unsure whether the AVRil will do the same.
Don't try and blow up the bombs though it's useless. Otherwise just
shoot it with anything that will reach and hit fairly instantly
(Shock Rifle or Minigun kind of speed).

There is no fire usage because you can't actaully control this vehicle directly,
you need to direct it's bombs with the Target Painter.

----------------------------------------
4.8 - Human and Skaarj Spacefighter tips
----------------------------------------

Use your lasers : The lasers are instant hit and hit more often than you might
think. The missiles are opposite, you think that since they
move so fast that they would easily hit your target. No, not
really, they always seem to fall short. I find that once you
get close enough, always use your lasers. So use your missiles
until you get close enough to use your lasers and then use
those until he's dead.

No, you can't stop : This only applies in the Mothership assault level where the
humans have to destroy the generators. You can't get in
then stop and fire, you have to fire, go past it, then turn
around in the little opening thing where's there's about
four turrets! Don't try to turn around inside the tunnel
though, wait for the opening then turn around.

Fire usage : Primary fire shoots the instant hit lasers that are for close range
and the secondary fire launches the missiles which are for long
range.

-------------------------
4.9 - Minigun turret tips
-------------------------

Use for infantry : This turret seems most powerful against infantry. It's also
accurate enough to hit infantry at long range. It also has a
zoom that makes it even easier hit those infantry at long
range.

Fire usage : Primary fire uses the main turret while the secondary fire is the
zoom.

-----------------------
4.10 - Link Turret tips
-----------------------

Link? WITH WHAT?!? : Pretty much useless, what's even going to come close enough
to use the secondary fire. The primary fire has a longer
range than the normal Link Gun but has a slower rate of
fire. There is no shield unlike the most of the other
turrets. Hold on, it's a "Link Turret", lets find something
to link with... Oh hold on, THERE IS NOTHING TO LINK WITH!!

All turrets are useless on the Mothership level : This applies to all turrets in
the Mothership level because
there is no helpful lock on
that helps you see what to
fire at, making it completely
impossible to see and
making the turrets pretty much
useless.

Fire usage : The primary fire is used for long range and the secondary is used
for short range and to "Link", sure, good luck with that one.

---------------------------------------------
4.11 - Energy Turret (Mothership Turret) tips
---------------------------------------------

Use the shield : A strange thing to have on a turret, but useful none the less.
That's if you actually get attacked of course.

All turrets are useless on the Mothership level : This applies to all turrets on
the Mothership level because
there is no helpful lock on
that helps you see what to
fire at, making it completely
impossible to see and
making the turrets pretty much
useless.

Fire usage : Primary fire is the Plasma things (Which is useless because you
can't see anything worth hitting) and secondary fire is the shield
(Which is also useless because you won't have fired anything
because you can't see, and so no-one will actually know you're
there and ignore you).

-----------------------------
4.12 - Ion Cannon Turret tips
-----------------------------

No, the Ion blast is quite harmless : To you that is, definatly not your
enemies. The Ion blast will in no way harm
you or your teammates, only enemies. It
doesn't work the same way as the Goliath
blast which does hurt you (Quite badly
too).

Fire usage : Primary fire shoots the Ion Cannon, note that you have to hold it
down and charge it. It will release the blast automatically when
it is fully charged. Secondary fire zooms in.

---------------------------
4.13 - Plasma Ion Tank tips
---------------------------

No, the Ion blast is quite harmless : To you that is, definatly not your
enemies. The Ion blast will in no way harm
you or your teammates, only enemies. It
doesn't work the same way as the Goliath
blast which does hurt you (Quite badly
too).

Beware the hit point drop : This only applies for the Glacier assault map. When
the tank is destroyed, it's hit points will drop
to a lower figure than before. This happens each
time the tank is destroyed, making it even easier to
destroy the next time. This can kind of start a
never ending cycle of death. Another reason to keep
that tank alive and to repair whenever it is
damaged.

Fire usage : Primary fire shoots the Ion Cannon, note that you need to charge it
up and then it will release the blast automatically after it has
charged fully. The secondary fire is... uh.. well... Heck, I don't
know. I think it's a kind of short range blast thing to get people
who are very close to you to die.

in the version updates section.

Any advice on anything is welcome (Only constructive criticism as mentioned
earlier) on basically anything. If you want a new section added or more
information added on any topic, let me know and I will consider adding more.

Well, I guess that's it. Thanks for reading and I eagerly await your feedback
(Not too much feedback though please, I don't need an overflowing inbox. This is
an internet e-mail account and I have to use a dial-up connection, so limit it a
bit).
