===============================================================================
01.) INTRODUCTION G0100
===============================================================================
Welcome to The Dig for the PC, an adventure game by LucasArts released in 1995.
The walkthrough for this game is complete. It is strongly recommended that you
play this game without a guide because talking to everybody and exploring is
most of the fun.
If you spot any errors or have suggestions please feel free to e- mail me about
it. Enjoy!
===============================================================================
02.) BASICS G0200
===============================================================================
Unlike other LucasArts adventure games you only have one simple mouse icon for
all the actions instead of several take, look, use ones. This simplifies things
but it does not necessarily make this game much simpler overall.
Pressing F5 brings up the option dialogue. Here you can change settings, save,
load and quit the game as you wish.
The small [i] in the corner of the game is the inventory. The magnifying glass
in the inventory gives you the ability to have a closer look at an item. If you
want to use an item simply select it once and then move the icon outside of the
inventory area and the screen will automatically return to normal.
During the game there are two nifty shortcuts you should be aware of. Pressing
ESC will skip movie sequences, dialogue and many animations. Because the
characters often go on for ages it is a good idea to skip some of their
mumbling but be aware that the whole conversation is being skipped and not just
the current sentence. Also by double clicking on locations you will
automatically arrive at that destination and not have to walk there slowly.
Combine the double click with the ESC skip and the game takes a lot less time
to complete. If this is your first time through the game I strongly recommend
you watching all the animation/movie/dialogue scenes, however.
At the time of writing this game works on Windows, including XP. If you are
trying to configure the sound you probably need to do so manually. The result
will most likely still be scratchy but better than nothing.

03.) WALKTHROUGH G0300
===============================================================================
Asteroid Attila:
````````````````
Click on your inventory and use the Pen Ultimate. Talk to Miles via the Comm
button and order the Flying Pig into space. Open the Flying Pig and take out
the Shovel, Explosive Unit Alpha, Explosive Unit Beta and the Zero-G Digger.
Leave this screen and go into space. Go to Quadrant 2 and use the Zero-G Digger
at the target surface. Place the Explosive Unit Alpha in the dirt and arm it
with the key. Go to Quadrant 3 and use the Shovel on the boulder. Place
Explosive Unit Beta on the surface and arm it as well. Return to the shuttle.
Talk to Borden via the Pen Ultimate about the nuclear explosive. Inside the
asteroid, push the metallic plate on the right hand side. Then use the Zero-G
Digger on the odd projections, there are three in total. Push each metallic
plate and fly through the dark tunnel. Pick up the four plates at the other
side of the large room and place them in the middle.
Planet Surface:
```````````````
Leave the area and go to the northern ? location. Use the shovel on the grave.
Pick up both the tusk and the jaw bone. Go to the western ? and into the wreck.
Pull the wire, pick it up and also pick up the yellow rod, open the chest, pick
up the blue device & the engraved rod. Leave the area and go to the last ?
location. Use the blue device and dig a hole in the small mound with the
shovel. Pick up the bracelet and return to the original location (dias) in the
center. Dig at the small hole using the shovel.
Nexus:
``````
Take the plate lying around and walk left to find a purple rod. Return slightly
right and go down the ramp to the south.
Power Generator:
````````````````
Use the control panel. The buttons do the following:
Top-left - Remove last lights
Top-right - Blue
Center - Red
Center-middle - Green
Bottom-left - Remove all lights
Bottom-middle - Purple
Bottom-right - Yellow
The colors represent the crystals movement:
Purple - Left
Green - Right
Blue - Up
Yellow - Down
Red - Grab
Enter 5x purple, 2x yellow and 1x red. Then use the other panel to make the
crystal pick up the lens. Enter the next combination at the control panel after
deleting the current display: 5x purple, 5x blue, 1x red. Use the other panel
again to place the lens and restore power. Remove the loose plate and take out
the blue crystal. Return back up to the Nexus.
Nexus:
``````
Use the door on the left and view the panel. Look at the purple engraved rod in
your inventory and click on the shapes to match them. Go through the opened
door and press the blue button to call a tram. Use it to get to a new location.
Museum Spire:
`````````````
Walk outside and go up the slope. Use the strange device, press and hold the
green button to make a light bridge appear. If it did not make a bridge you
will need to adjust the lens some more before trying again. Now walk through
the door to find glowing crystals, a tablet and the red engraved rod at the
left hand side. Then go through the door underneath to speak to Maggie. Leave
the museum and return to the Nexus with the tram.
Nexus:
``````
Walk up the nearby slope to the main area. Use a glowing crystal on Brink.
Return to the museum spire.
Museum Spire:
`````````````
Open the weakened door. Take two extra crystals as well as the canister lying
around. Leave the room and go outside. Check the fossil to get the idea of the
next puzzle. Walk towards the water to see a scene. Look at the remains the
monster spat out and reconstruct the creature like the fossil you have seen
before. This is not too easy and there is a nice scan of the completed skeleton
at GameFAQs if you need it. If you are able to use the canister with the
remains then you know it is correct. After combining the two, use a glowing
crystal to bring it back to life. Now you can dive into the water. In the next
screen you will find another plate and the orange engraved rod. Return all the
way to the tram and take it back to the Nexus.
Nexus:
``````
Use the next panel on the right and shape the forms like the orange rod you
have just picked up. Go through, call the tram and travel to the next spire.
Planetarium Spire:
``````````````````
Follow the path along the cliff. Jump over the chasm when you hear rumbling, it
helps when you have subtitles on. If you fell off the cliff simply climb back
up. For returning on this path later you can use the shovel on the boulder but
you will most likely use the light paths instead. Use the strange device,
adjust the lens if necessary until the path is set. Go into the crevice to find
a blue rod. Return to the previous screen and go north. Pick up the pole, the
rib cage, the cover and the dowel all over this area. Insert the dowel into the
hole of the wheel. Drag the pole slightly to the right and then use it on the
pin. Place the ribcage on the hook at the end of this pole and finally use the
rod on the cage to make a trap for the critter. Look inside the hole next to
the wheel and the critter will run out to the right. Quickly walk left, but not
too far. You should still see the wheel on the right hand side from your
position. The critter will most likely come into view soon and position itself
next to the wheel. At that moment you should walk right to trap it. If the
critter disappeared into another hole instead then you need to start looking
into the hole again. Tag the critter with the bracelet and let it go. Pick up
the rod again. Widen the cave with the shovel and go through. Using the blue
device will reveal where you should dig with the shovel. Go back to the
opening, insert the machine part into the panel at the door and replace the
cover. Press the button to get access. Inside you will find the green engraved
rod, two scepters and yet another plate. Shine the gold scepter onto the light
at the ceiling. Use the gold and silver scepters to align the planet and moons
with the sun. You will see a scene and the door closes when you are done.
Simply push the button to get outside, however. Return to the Nexus.
Nexus:
``````
Walk through the dark tunnel. Press the first button to the airlock and press
the second one twice to get through. Look at the panel and insert the blue rod
in the holes. Adjust them so that the tip of the dark crystal becomes
brightest. If you have selected a shining one by accident you will need to re-
active it, so try not to. Return to the main area, go right for three doors and
use the panel with the red engraved rod symbols to open it. Call a tram travel
to the next spire.
Tomb Spire:
```````````
Go outside and to the plateau. Walk north and use the strange device to switch
on the light bridge, adjusting the lens if necessary. Return to the tram and
travel to the nexus.
Nexus:
``````
Remove the panel on the right door. Connect the wire to the panel and then to
the sparks in the floor. Change the shapes on the panel to the ones on the
green engraved rod. Call the tram and travel to the map spire.
Map Spire:
``````````
Go north and enter the cave. Turn right and go north. Insert all four engraved
rods into the panel to see some maps. Go through the opening and open the panel
on the device. View the schematics. Move the original prism 3x, the bottom-left
3x, the top-left 4x and the top-right 1x. Adjust the lens if necessary and
switch on the light bridge. Walk across to Tomb Spire.
Tomb Spire:
```````````
Walk north and remove the stone plate with the shovel, then go inside the tomb.
Place the blue crystal into the hole in the wall. Step on the 'CC' tile and
then place the rod on it. Outside of the tomb, remove the dirt and return.
Touch the statue. Ride the crypt down, go left and use a glowing crystal on the
pile of bones. Use the yellow engraved rod on the panel to open the door and
walk all the way to the pyramid with the alien. Again use the yellow engraved
rod to open it up and reanimated the alien with a glowing crystal. Talk to it
at least once before you give up. Return to the tomb, go outside & north and
right into cave. Flash the bats with the light. Quickly go north take the stash
of glowing crystals before Brink comes back. Return through the batcave all the
way to the spire map and select the Map Spire.
Map Spire:
``````````
Go north, left, through the doorway and all the way left into the nest. Tell
Brinks to distract the spider and go through the exit on the bottom left. Get
to the falls source and push the rock. Return to the nest and tell Brink about
the grate. Go through the door and north to the ledge. Ask Maggie about the
tablet (use table with her). Go into the new island entrance and pick up the
last plate. Leave the island, walk through the opening and right into the
cavern. Walk further right, north twice and to the Planetarium Spire via the
bridges.
Planetarium Spire:
``````````````````
Walk right. Use the jaw bone on Brink.
Nexus:
``````
Like before, use the four plates to make a square. Find a tram call button
behind the door and ride it to the final spire.
Cathedral Spire:
````````````````
Go north and look at the green console. Notice the gap in the controls. Go all
the way up and left at the top. Kick off the nest and switch on the final
bridge, adjusting the lens is necessary. Next stop is the Museum Spire.
Museum Spire:
`````````````
First go down and then left. In the room with the glowing crystals, take 2 and
leave all the way back to the spire map. Go over to the Tomb Spire.
Tomb Spire:
```````````
Walk north and into the tomb. Use the crypt to travel down. Then go left all
the way to the pyramid. Use the yellow engraved rod on it again and talk to the
alien. Mention the alien device and then switch the conversation to the eye
piece so that he gives you creator's engravings. Pick them up and leave the
tomb altogether. Go north and onto the light bridges. Pick the Map Spire next.
Map Spire:
``````````
Go to the next room and use the panel to enter the shapes like on the creator's
engraving. Walk left thrice and right into the doorway at the bottom right
corner. Walk along to the beach. Find the eye part underneath the rock with the
strange markings. Return north, right, left through the other door, right,
north and cross the bridge to the Cathedral Spire.
Cathedral Spire:
````````````````
Go right and watch the scene in the lab. Go all the way back up, left onto the
bridges and to the Tomb Spire.
Tomb Spire:
```````````
Walk right and north where Brink is working. Show him the eye piece (use it on
him) and then insert it into the machine. Take the two glowing crystals. Get
the eye piece. Optionally you can place the eye piece back in, make a few more
crystals, take them and finally take the eye piece. Leave the area until you
reach the light bridge and follow it to the Cathedral Spire.
Cathedral Spire:
````````````````
Go down to the green console and insert the eye piece, 2 glowing crystals and
talk to Maggie at the top of the path. Now you can either leave straight away
up the path or use a glowing crystal on Maggie for an extra scene. Either way,
attempt to walk across the light bridge. Use the strange device to switch off
the light beam and then re-do the process. Go through the eye in the middle of
the spires and enter the portal.
The End
Note: The ending will differ slightly depening on whether or not you chose to
use a glowing crystal on Maggie.
05.) SECRETS G0500
===============================================================================
Boston Clone:
`````````````
Go to the Tram Control room, the underwater room at the end of the long tunnel
from the Nexus -- you know, the one that shows a cinema sequence with the
flashlight when you go through it. Go to the far left window and look out into
the water. Boston will comment on the underwater tunnel. Now type 'SWANS' on
the keyboard, and watch carefully! This doesn't affect anything game-wise, it's
just a goofy little trick.
[Dark Penguin]
Boston's Muscles:
`````````````````
Press CTRL + B to make Boston flex his muscles, producing an often funny
reaction from his teammates. This only works if you are not in space.
[Mario1999]
Alternative Ending:
```````````````````
For a slightly changed ending, revive Maggie with a Life Crystal at the end of
the game.
