Welcome to Space Quest 5 for the PC, a classic adventure game by Sierra
released in 1993.
The walkthrough for this game is complete and includes a point list. By
following the walkthrough you will also get all points in the game. If you spot
any errors or have suggestions please feel free to e-mail me about it. Enjoy!
The number in the (,)s is the amount of points you get during the game and the
amount you should have at this point if you have been following the
walkthrough correctly. They are listed again in the point list for a quick
overview.
There are serious timing errors in this game if you are playing on a modern PC
so try using an emulator such as DosBox, play on an older PC (486) or better
yet find the unofficial SCI fixes that will sort out most problems. If none of
the above are an option for you it might make the game unplayable, especially
when you require to rescue Cliffy.
___Academy___
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Either watch the introduction or skip it and find yourself in the corridors
at the Starcon Academy. Go south and enter the room at the right hand side (5,
5). You soon need to take the SAT test. Click away from the test for now. Be
on the look-out for the anti-cheat android in the row behind you. When it is
facing is turning away from you look at the test of the left alien (5, 10) for
the correct answers. You need to do this for each question, confirm them with
this list if you aren't sure:

After the test, walk south again and into the door at the bottom screen. After
the stuff fell out, pick up the Scrub-O-Matic (10, 20) and the Cones (10, 30).
Go south and into the corridor on the right. Use the elevator platform to get
down. Place the cones on the crest and then the Scrub-O-Matic, too. Click on
it and then use it to clean the crest. You control the machine with the mouse
and need to turn each gray area into a clean sparkling spot. You can leave a
few minor strips here and there (50, 80). After you are done, watch the scene
and leave the screen the way you came in. Go west and south. Check the panel
near a bunch of cadets to receive you captain's training, if you passed the
SAT with a perfect score (100, 180) which you should have done.

Sit on the chair for a better view. Order Drool to 'Hail StarCon' and then
order him to 'Lay In A Course'. Input the coordinates for Gangularis (71552)
and press ENT. Command Droole to fly at 'Light Speed' and wait until you are
approaching the destination. Now order Droole to change to 'Regular Speed'.
When the planet is in sight, tell Droole to 'Activate RSS' for the garbage
retrieval (100, 280). Exit the chair view and go through the door behind it.
Open the tool box at the bottom and take out the alien laser cutting torch (5,
285), spare fuse (5, 290), hole puncher (5, 295) and the anti-acid tablets
(20, 315). Press the blue button at the right hand side and watch the scene
(20, 335). Afterwards go through the door to the left and return to the
corridor straight away. Then go back into the science lab and walk to the
bottom left corner to find Spike. Place Spike into the specimen container at
the right hand side (20, 355) and throw the anti-acid tablets in it, too (15,
370). Return to the bridge and sit down at the captain's chair. Talk to Flo
again and 'Lay In A Course' to 92767. Tell him to go at 'Light Speed'. When
you arrive, order Flo to go at 'Regular Speed' and to 'Activate RSS' (100,
470). That's about it for here so talk to Flo again and 'Lay In A Course' to
20011. Go at 'Lite Speed' and soon you will arrive at Kiz Urazgubi for a
scene. Get up from the chair and go through the doors at the back. Back in the
lab, stand on the blue transporter in the middle and command it to beam you
down to the planet (10, 480).
___Kiz Urazgubi___
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
When you arrive go west around the lake and into the cave, the WD40 will miss
when you keep on walking. Go left now and walk into the tree, not the log!
Grab the branch to fall down into the lake where you started off. When you are
back on shore you want to take the branch (10, 490) and go west into the cave
again, avoiding the WD40. Back at the tree, go into the log, not on top and
crawl through to the other side (walk icon, not the finger). Hit the bunch of
bananas to make it swing and then grab it when you can (25, 515). Return
through the log and go west into the previous screen. Go into the small cave
the left hand side to arrive at a large view. Walk left and the WD40 will
arrive. When it starts shooting, enter the left cave and it will follow you
as you see in the imprints at the lake and waterfall. When you arrive at the
top exit, quickly jump over the left and then walk up to the boulder. Use the
branch on the boulder to knock WD40 down (100, 615) - (I had some problem with
this section, when entering the left cave make sure you click on the entrance
and not on the high exit to go through or WD40 might not follow you). Now go
down from the ledge, jump the chasm and go down to the lake. Enter the right
hand cave and then return to the place where you started off to check on WD40.
Return to the previous screen and go east and into the log. Wait for WD40 to
come and stand on top of you and poke her with the banana (200, 815). Pick up
the head nearby (25, 840) and walk into the beginning area. Back on the
Eureka, leave the room and come back. Stand on the transporter and energize
(175, 1015). Use the new device on yourself to de-cloak the ship (100, 1115).
Walk onto the transporter to enter it. There is a control panel just above the
few steps on the right, open it to start a countdown. You've got to be quick
and follow these steps to open the panel:
-> Top latch
-> Bottom latch
-> All 4 handles
-> Top-left latch
-> Bottom-right latch
-> Both handles twice
-> Top-right latch
-> Bottom-right latch
Now pick up the cloaking device (200, 1315) and return to the elevator to
leave the ship.

Back at your chair in the bridge, order Drool to 'Lay In A Course' to 69869.
Fly at 'Lite Speed' until you arrive and then switch to 'Regular Speed' and
finally 'Standard Orbit'. Leave the bridge and use the transporter in the lab
to beam over to the Spacebar (10, 1325).

Sit with your crew at the left hand side and watch the scenes. When you get to
play Battle Cruiser, click on 'Directions' for instructions. Each loss of a
unit means a 25 point penalty so try to keep them all. Easiest way to do this
is to save the game, launch probes and note down the locations of Quirk's
units. Restore to launch more probes when you have run out. Once you know the
coordinates of all 4 ships you can start the game and win perfectly (100,
1425). Watch more scenes and sit down at the table once more. Mix the space
monkeys with the red drink in front of you (50, 1475) and exit one screen
right. After the guards have left, use the control panel they were standing
next to (25, 1500) and look into the second prison cell on the left. Use Spike
to burn holes into the bars (50, 1550) to escape this mess altogether.

Order Drool to 'Lay In A Course'. Input the coordinates for Clorox II (90210)
and press ENT. Fly at 'Lite Speed' until you arrive and then switch to
'Regular Speed' and finally 'Standard Orbit' (10, 1560). Order Flo to 'Hail
Ship' (10, 1570) and leave the bridge. Stand on the transporter in the lab and
beam down (5, 1575) to the planet.
___Clorox II___
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Go into the building and try to use the large table control panel in the
center. When the mutant attacks, dodge left and right or you will die. After
five spits you will be save (50, 1625). Pick up the piece of paper he dropped
(5, 1630). Now use the control panel and read the information on '80869' (20,
1650). Leave this place and go left near the bottom of the screen. You will
end up east near the can you could see if you went east from the starting
point. Look at the can (50, 1700) and return. Use the communications device
to beam back to the ship.

Sit down on the bridge and order Droole to 'Lay In A Course' for '53284'. Fly
at 'Light Speed' until you arrive and then switch to 'Regular Speed'. Stay in
'Standard Orbit' (20, 1720) and leave the bridge. Press the red button in the
corridor ride the lift down. Pick up the mask next to the suits (5, 1725) and
an oxygen tank just to the left of that (25, 1750). Use the console in front
of the lift you came in on and select 'Elevator Door'. Take it back up, enter
the lab on the left and step on the transporter. Wear the mask (20, 1770) to
beam down.
___Thrakus___
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Follow the path left. Just above is an entrance between the tree, take that.
Peak into the escape pod, take the coat (10, 1780) and press the red button
(35, 1815). Return to the previous screen and walk to the edge at the left
hand side. After the fight, use the coat on Beatrice (35, 1850) to pull her
up. Then use the communicator to contact Cliffy (25, 1875). Wait a few seconds
and then grab the vine (5, 1880).

When you gain control of Wilco again, push the red button near the tank and
open the cyro chamber (20, 1900). Pick up Beatrice and place her in it (20,
1920). Look at the chamber and select '10' and 'Start' to freeze her (75,
1995). Leave and return to the bridge. Sit down and hang around until the
Goliath fires a torpedo at you. Order Droole to 'Evasive Action' and pick the
'Asteroid Field' choice (35, 2030). Now you need to rescue Cliffy so get up
from the captain's chair, into the corridor and press the red button here.
Stand on the elevator to get down. Use the console and select 'Pod Rotation'.
Get inside the pod and you will have a different view. Use the left stick to
go up/down/left/right and center in one Cliffy, the red dot on the radar. When
you are close enough, extend the claw with the right arm. Now move around a
little bit more until it says 'Target In Range'. Then click on the right stick
where it says CLAW to grab Cliffy (300, 2330). Before the oxygen and fuel runs
out you need to maneuver back to the Eureka, the green dot on the map (50,
2380). Now use the console to open the 'Elevator Door'. Ride it up and return
to the bridge. Order Droole to 'Lay In A Course' to '41666', ENT. Fly at
'Light Speed' until you arrive and then switch to 'Regular Speed'. Stay in
'Standard Orbit' (10, 2390) and leave the bridge. Use the transporter in the
lab to beam over to the station.
Note: If you are having trouble rescueing Cliffy because your Oxygen/Fuel runs
out too quickly, have a look at Section 2 of this document.
___Genetix Research Station___
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
You will turn into a fly for the first part of this area. Fly around the lake
so the frog jumps out. Fly onto the communicator (100, 2490) and talk to Flo
(40, 2530). Leave this screen, fly west and into the keycard slot (20, 2550)
then pass through the laser beams. In the research lab, fly onto the computer
terminal at the bottom right (10, 2560). Select 'Restart', 'Projects', 'Next'
until you get to Project X (20, 2580), 'Main Menu', 'Accounts' (15, 2595),
'Main Menu', 'Systems', '3', 'Security'. Select Camera 2 and then Camera 3.
Leave and fly back through the keycard slot. Land on Cliffy (5, 2600) and then
fly just east of where he is standing. You will end up at the dumpster and
fly into your body (10, 2610) to regain control (50, 2660). Walk east, cross
the bridge and tell Cliffy to beam you up to the ship. Select the bottom most
option when given a choice and look at the Cryo Chamber. Use the control panel
to enter '10', select 'Defrost' and 'Start' (50, 2710). Open the chamber to
get Beatrice out. Place her onto the transporter (50, 2760) and then stand on
the transporter yourself to beam down to the planet again. Use the hole
puncher to make an X into the card (5, 2765), make sure you do this right.
Insert the card into the slot (500, 3265), if you didn't manage this the
first time the puzzle will reset and you lose some points (200?). Inside the
lab, walk down the stairs and stand in front of the panel at the bottom. Press
the black button to get access to the liquid nitrogen (50, 3315). Go back
upstairs, leave the lab and tell Cliffy you want to beam back to the Eureka.
___SS Eureka___
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Return to the bridge and sit down. Order Droole to 'Lay In A Course' for
'81100'. Fly at 'Light Speed' until you arrive and then switch to 'Regular
Speed'. After the message from WD40, press the green button on your chair and
tell Cliffy to 'Cloak Ship' (50, 3365). Forget the rest. Leave the bridge and
enter the lab. Cliffy will show you schematics of the Goliath. Look at them
closely to see where you want to enter the ship at. When done, leave the lab,
press the red button and stand on the elevator. Enter the pod (300, 3665) in
the bay.
___Goliath___
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Select the correct docking area where there are no pukoids like you saw on
the chart in the lab. Press the button to open the door. Use your laser cutter
to make a hole (100, 3765). If you chose the correct spot there won't be any
pukoids ambushing you at this point (70, 3835). Inside the Goliath, wait for
a guard to come and a leave. As soon as he's gone, walk over to the control
panel. Click the walk icon several times, as Wilco will stop after a steps.
Use the panel and insert the warp distributor cap on top of the large engine
(100, 3935). Leave this view and wait for the guard to come in again. When
he's gone, walk into the door he went into. Open the grate to enter the
ventilation shafts (100, 4035). You start at Level 8. Crawl north, east,
north, north and climb up the ladder to the next floor, Level 7. You will see
the elevator above you when you are in the large tube. You need to wait for
this to pass, a few seconds, and then go north again. It should be gone so
quickly climb up to Level 6. Crawl south, west, north, east, north, north.
Climb up to Level 5 and wait for the elevator to have passed again. Go north
and quickly climb up to Level 4. Crawl south, west (hunted by Pac-Man), west,
west, north, north. Climb all the way up to Level 2. Crawl south, south, west,
south, east and south (350, 4385). Flip the switch and you will be found (20,
4405). After a scene you will be hidden in the transporter room. Wait for all
the pukoids to stand in the middle and the doors will have closed. Then order
Cliffy to transform them all back to normal (20, 4425). After the scene Flo
will ask for an action to be taken so select the 'Beam Me Over' choice (20,
4445).

¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Leave the lab and enter the bridge. Sit down and order Droole to 'Fire' at the
blob near the Goliath (50, 4495). Then quickly order him to 'Activate RSS' to
suck up the blob (200, 4695). Order Flo to 'Abandon Ship' (10, 4705). Sit back
on the chair again and press the red button. Switch on the egg timer with the
left button that looks like a nuke (100, 4805) and exit the bridge. In the lab,
open the Cryo Chamber (10, 4815), stand on the transporter and try to energize.
Leave the lab, climb into the service tunnel left of the red button and take
out the broken fuse, as you can see from the chart in the tunnel. Insert a new
fuse (175, 4990) and press 'Exit'. Return to the lab, avoiding the blob on the
way, and take out Spike from his container (10, 5000) for the rest of the
points. Stand on the transporter and beam out.
