========================================================================
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
(1) What's the deal with this game?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is essentially a dating sim based on the popular anime "Neon Genesis
Evangelion".* The Japanese title, "Koutetsu no Girlfriend 2", translates
literally into "Girlfriend of Steel 2", but in Japan the official English title
is "Iron Maiden 2nd".** In the English-speaking fan community, "GOS2" is the
more common means of citing the game, so that is what I'll use here. This is a
"sequel" (albeit in spirit only) to the original "Koutetsu no Girlfriend",
which was released in 1998 for the Saturn.
The game's basic premise is that it is set in an "Alternate Universe" based
loosely upon the famous "Possible World" sequence from episode #26 of the
anime. A lot of the concepts make it into the game: Asuka is a childhood
friend of Shinji's, Rei is a spunky transfer student, Misato is the teacher of
Class 2-A (although the old bloke is still around), and Shinji lives at home
with his parents (both alive and well). But after that, GOS2 starts taking
heavy liberties. Unlike the anime scenario, the world of GOS2 is one within
which Nerv, Evangelions, Angels, and even the Gehirn Artificial Evolution
Laboratory coexist, while allowing the teenage characters to enjoy fairly
ordinary academic, social, and romantic lives. Essentially, this game provides
fans an escape from the harsh integrity of the TV series, wherein we helplessly
watched the lives and psychological stability of our favorite characters turn
to dust. (Odd, that -- I thought that was part of what *made* "NGE".)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
(2) Can you tell me a little bit about the first "Iron Maiden"?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
This was an EU side story/dating sim most likely set between episodes #13 and
#14 of the anime. It involved three new characters (most infamously the new
love interest for Shinji, Mana Kirishima), giant robots, and a cheesy storyline
that comes off as being based on a bad fanfic. There is virtually no
interactivity in the game; it's essentially like watching a really long Flash
movie (albeit one with almost no actual animation). The only choice the player
can make that makes much difference is at the end, when you can choose between
three endings.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3) Damn... Is this one any better?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
This one is, gameplay-wise, quite a bit more entertaining. (Arguably, that
isn't saying much.) It has much more of a "Choose Your Own Adventure" feel; the
choices you make determine how much of the game you get to see and the final
outcome. Granted, the scenario system is not extremely intricate, and seeing
everything in the game just requires playing certain parts over again and
making different choices. The only strategy there is in the game is how you use
your save slots. ;;>
The basic engine is still the same as the first GOS -- just a screen that
displays your "world" (with no point-and-click interactivity, unlike "Myst"),
a box for dialogue, and three buttons: "Look" (gives you a description of your
surroundings), "Talk" (you'll either talk to somebody or think to yourself),
and "Move" (navigate from one screen to another).
I can't say I'm especially fond of the graphics. They have more "special
effects" (funky lighting, and such), but the line quality and detail of the
drawings is usually quite shoddy. The Evas and Angels, for what little they
appear, are not drawn especially well, either. (Granted, everything is nicely
colored.) I think the original GOS was better in this department, with graphics
that actually looked like cels, straight out of the anime. I suppose it's a
matter of preference, really; GOS2 has a completely different graphic style
overall, although it DOES recycle some imagery from the original. The music is,
however, a complete improvement, as it uses actual CD-quality anime BGM (and a
couple of songs that weren't in the anime), rather than crappy MIDIs. I do
think the BGM could have been looped better, though.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
(4) So... what's it about?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I already explained the basic premise. The story, from what I can tell, isn't
anything to hoot about (save the hooting for the abundant fan service!). In
fact, it's even less substantial than the story of the original GOS (but, I
suppose, that allows for somewhat more open-ended gameplay, as opposed to
being forced to sit through a linear story with minimal interactivity). The
game begins (not counting the preface) with the arrival of transfer student
Rei Ayanami (who only looks like Rei and sounds like Megumi Hayashibara --
that's where the resemblance ends) to your school in Tokyo-3. We meet most of
the main players (including Kaworu, who gets to be an 'ordinary middle school
student' instead of the 17th Angel), and, later that day, the Children (i.e.,
the designated Eva pilots) go to the Geofront and see their Evas for the very
first time. Saving the world doesn't play a very large role in this game,
though -- it focuses more on extra-Nerv antics, like going on dates and
hanging out with your friends. Shinji's romantic options are primarily Rei and
Asuka, although, to appease the Kaworu fangirls, a bit of Kaworu/Shinji
"SAABISU" has been included. The kids do have to "save the world" in the end,
although it's pretty ludicrously executed.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
(5) Let's cut to the chase. Is this game available in English?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
As of this writing, no, unfortunately. (Or fortunately, depending on your
outlook ;;>). It has not been domestically released OR fan-translated (whereas
we HAVE had the benefit -- or, uh, disfavor? -- of a translation-hacked GOS).
Being able to read Japanese, any at all, makes endeavors like playing games in
the raw language much easier -- if not, you're basically doomed to cluelessly
blunder through it. I know *some* Japanese, certainly not enough to provide an
actual translation for anything but bits and pieces, but enough to navigate
through the game without any problems and get the gist of what is going on. I'm
not going to provide *every* little bitty step for you here, but hopefully this
will be better than absolutely nothing at all!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
(6) Are you going to translate any more scenes?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unless I'm hit by some motivation to do so, no. There is wayyyyy too much
untranslated NGE-related crap out there infinitely more significant, IMO.
However, you may make a request -- for anything ranging from a single cut to an
entire scene, but no more than that until/unless I finish -- and I'll see what
I can do. I certainly don't mind, since any translation work is more practice
honing my Japanese, and that is Good.
However, I cannot guarantee promptness, only that I will add it to my queue and
deliver whenever inspiration strikes and time permits. I have virtually all of
the in-game text captured to file for archival purposes, so the only time-
consuming part for me would be the translation itself. I think the only bit I
neglected to do was the Asuka ending, so if you want to request this scene,
please send me the required image captures, after clearing it with me first.
(Or you can rip the dialogue, if you're into that sort of thing.)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
FOOTNOTES
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
* And if you haven't seen "Evangelion", go get it. NOW. And watch it with
subtitles, because the Japanese cast r0xx0rz. That's an order, Private!
** Sometimes the Japanese will do this: They'll create two titles for the same
thing, one in Japanese and one in English, and, while they'll be similar,
they (usually) won't literally mean the same thing. One example is "Shin-seiki
Evangelion" ("New Century Evangelion") versus "Neon Genesis Evangelion" ("New
Beginning Evangelion"). Another is "Fushigi no umi no Nadia" ("Nadia of the
Mysterious Seas") versus "Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water".) See also Ghibli's
films (the English titles for which are chosen by the studio, I believe), such
as "Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi" ("The Spiriting Away of Sen and Chihiro")
verus "Spirited Away". If I'm totally off on the latter two examples, let me
know.
FYI, one exception to the "English" rule is "Shoujo Kakumei Utena", which has
the French equivalent -- "La Filette revolutionaire" -- plastered all over
official Japanese merchandise.

Anyway, enough talk. Let's get started. Yossha!

========================================================================
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
+++++++++++++++++++++ Preface: The Return of Evangelion +++++++++++++++++++++++
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
*-----------------------------------------------------------------------------*
TRIVIA: "Kaette kita Evangelion" is a reference to "Kaette kita Ultraman",
a short film produced when Gainax was still Daicon Films. Hideaki Anno (the
man behind "NGE" -- come on, you should know this!!) played Ultraman. If
that's not funny, I don't know what is.
*-----------------------------------------------------------------------------*
The Preface sequence is one long cut scene.
Asuka and Shinji are taking a bike ride together down Hakone National Highway
(how cute...). She whines about how Shinji is "Definitely looking!", although
she should be more worried about the audience. Kaji drives by, and, of course,
Asuka tries to persuade him to wait for them at a restaurant so that they can
talk more. But Kaji has work to do (or, at least, that's his excuse ;;> ), and
he drives off. Asuka gets the crazy idea that they should pursue him and tells
Shinji to pedal faster, but his ass is killing him too much. ;;D
Asuka hits the outdoor shower afterwards. She asks Shinji where the towel is,
and he tells her that it's on the shelf above her.
On the way back, Shinji sees a "light shaped like a human". Gee, who EVER
could that be? Asuka thinks he's just seeing things, though. The giant
disappears as quickly as ve appears. ["Ve"/"Ver"/"Vis" = gender neutral
pronoun. Come on, kids, it's the cool thing to do!]
You get back home. (Misato's "Comfort 17" Apartment. Misato doesn't live there
in this game, though.) Here is a crap ASCII layout (gawd, ASCII art -- what
have I been reduced to?!?):

Go to the living room and Talk. You'll have two options. Pick the first if you
want to talk to your mom; pick the second if you'd rather not bother. Might as
well, though -- this is the only time in the game we actually get to see her!
;_; Shinji asks her about the suit he's wearing (although why he is wearing it
at home, I have no idea), and Yui babbles on about the future and how Shinji
will pilot a human, blah blah blah.
The following title says, "Their conversation is followed up on the very next
day..." (Something like that, anyway.)

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
"Carefree School Life" -- just the way you wanted it, right? Here, we'll get a
liberal 'reinterpretation' of that (in)famous "Possible World" sequence from
episode #26.
The chapter starts with a brief cut scene of Asuka waking Shinji up. No
references to morning glories this time, though. (Unless that really IS a
giant tent Shinji is pitching there...) Fade to the apartment exterior.
Move and choose the only option, "Towards Town", to activate another scene.
Afterwards, you'll find yourself on the pedestrian bridge. Map time!

You won't be allowed to enter the station at this point, but you can wander
around a little. At the pedestrian bridge, you can talk to Toku-san (from the
Big Apple Diner in the original "GOS"). If you go to the Convenience Store,
he'll follow and you can talk again, and again when you return to the
pedestrian bridge. After this, though, he'll leave. Thank gawd -- the guy was
starting to give me the creeps!
Once you're satisfied, go to the intersection. Another cut scene will play.
We see Tenkousei (Transfer Student) Rei rushing to class with a piece of toast
in her mouth. I'm getting the strangest feeling of deja vu... On cue, she
collides into Shinji. Not only can Shinji see her "PANTSU", so can we! How
kind of the game developers. Rei is quick to rush off again, though.
Now that we're finally at school, it's time for another map!

Time to talk to a lot of people. Necessary to activate the next event, I'm
afraid.
- Go to the shoe rack and talk to Asuka; she'll fix your shirt up. Cripes,
they act like husband and wife already. Dating game my ass -- Shinji's choice
should be obvious. ;;>
- Talk to Hikari in the home ec room.
- Talk to the old teacher in the library.
- Talk to Misato in the staff room.
- Talk to Ritsuko in the health room.
- Talk to Kaworu in the music room. He'll make a flagrantly flaming
introduction, working those androgynous charms on Shinji as per usual. They're
totally playing up to the "sophisticated gay-boy" stereotype. Just the way his
fangirls like him, I suppose.
*----------------------------------------------------------------*
Kaworu "The rose called Friendship is abloom."
Shinji "Kaworu-kun! Meeting up this way, it's like a dream." |
Kaworu "A reunion with a friend who shares his joy.
A single rose surpasses even decor that has reached the
peak of extravagance."
*----------------------------------------------------------------*
Um... yeah.
- Talk to Toji on the rooftop.
- Now, go to the classroom to activate a cut scene.
Classtime with Katsuragi-sensei! The kids are all excited by the new transfer
student, who is brought into the classroom by our old buddy, the nameless
"Nebukawa no sensei". Rei introduces herself, singles Shinji out as the guy
who saw her "pantsu", and, if you've seen episode #26, you should already know
how the rest goes.
Now, talk to Misato in the staff room and Hikari in the home ec room. Go to
the health room to get your checkup with Ritsuko. (She has enough time to be
the school nurse AND the head of Nerv's technology department? I'm impressed.)
She confides in Shinji that she likes his dad. Big surprise, there.
After this, you'll be returned to the corridor. The girls are using the
classroom to get changed for gym class. If you try going to the classroom,
you'll be presented with two options:
(1) Try going in (Haitte miru)
(2) Stay out (Yamete oku)
If you go in, you'll get the first of several Game Over sequences. These are a
little on the bizarre side, but they seem like they'd be pretty amusing if I
understood what the heck was being said. ^_^; Ah, heck -- just save your game
beforehand and see it for yourself.
Now, go to the music room and talk to Kensuke. Go to the shoe rack and talk to
Toji. Then go back to the music room and talk to Kensuke again. It will fade
to the corridor. Go outside to activate a cut scene.
It's gym class and the boys are ogling the transfer student. Asuka comes over
to claim the attention they should be giving her.
You return to the campus. Go to the back of the tennis court to have a
conversation with Kaworu. (That tree looks pretty comfy, no?) Then, go to the
back of the pool to have a conversation with Rei. Shinji gets pissed off for
some reason.
You'll be on the rooftop. Go down to the corridor and Asuka will talk to you.
You have to talk to a few more people to trigger the next event. You might
want to save your game presently, as the game will reach its first branching
point after talking to these people.
- Hikari in Home Ec Room
- Old Teacher in Staff Room
- Rei in Health Room
- Kaworu at Back of Pool
Leave. The school corridor will appear and you'll have to choose who to go to
the Artificial Evolution Laboratory with.
(1) Go with Asuka (Asuka to iku)
(2) Go with Ayanami (Ayanami to iku)
(3) Go with Kaworu-kun (Kaworu-kun to iku)
Make your choice. The Asuka scenario is directly below; scroll down for Rei
and Kaworu.

now (optionally):

- Kensuke at back of pool.
When you're done, go to the pastry corner to find Asuka, nibbling on ...
something and looking miserable.
You're taken to Sengokuhara Station Ticket Gate. A map panel appears. You
board the train to Shinkichijouji automatically.
Time for another map! It's quite easy to get lost here without one.

(Same with 2-3 and 4-3.)
From the Shinkichijouji Station, it's but a quick jaunt to Yuzawaya (I think
it's a store chain or something). For some reason, there are hot spring
penguins right in front of the store, including a talking one named -- you
guessed it -- Pen^2. But can Asuka and Shinji even hear him? As soon as they
leave, he starts 'talking' like normal.
You'll automatically be taken to the Shinkichijouji Station. The map panel

Asuka will catch the two of you together before you leave school. She's pissed
off, naturally. Funny how she possessive she is over "Baka-Shinji". Not that
it's really inconsistent with her behavior in the anime.
At the shoe rack, Rei talks to you. If you go into the corridor, Asuka will
shout at you, and you'll be returned to the shoe rack. Here's some talking you
can do before you leave:
- Old Teacher at Campus
- Kensuke at back of pool
- Kaworu at back of tennis court.
- Hikari at pastry corner room.
Rei will talk to you at the intersection. Now, go to Sengokuhara Station and
enter the ticket gates. You'll see the route map again. If you look at it for
a moment, it makes the world of GOS2 look deceptively big. There's not as much
to it as you might think -- but you'll see that for yourself soon enough.
You'll get onto the train.
There will be a cut scene of Shinji and Rei on the train. (Shinji has to try
and pretend he's not being pushed against the bosom of this transfer student
who looks unnervingly like his mom. ;;>) Afterwards, you'll see the sign for
the Artifical Evolution Laboratory. Skip ahead to the AEL section.

XXX KAWORU XXX

The screen will fade out and you'll be out by the pool with Kaworu. He
continues to bombard you with his sophisticated, homoerotic babblings.
Afterwards, you'll find yourself at the back of the pool. Exit to the campus
and Kaworu will talk to you and tell you the plan to go to Shinkichijouji.
You can go talk to Hikari in the home ec room and Nebukawa no sensei in the
staff room if you want. Otherwise, head to the station; Kaworu will talk to
you at the intersection. If you go to your home, he'll babble some more. At
the station, the map panel will appear and you'll get on the train
automatically to Shinkichijouji Station. You'll find yourself at the plaza
outside the station.
If you feel like wandering around this area, you can get Kaworu to talk quite a
bit. ^_^ When you're finished, go to Yamano Instruments.
You'll see a sparkly version of the interior (the sign says "Music Fair in
Session"), which cuts to Shinji and Kaworu inside, talking about instruments or
whatever. When they're done, you'll return to the station automatically and
take the train to the AEL.

Although Kensuke is wearing a plugsuit that says "04", EVA-04 has still been

After the TV turns off, Kensuke mopes, "So I'm just a spare?" Even when he

(2) Stay quiet and return to the airlock (Damatte EAROKKU ni modoru)
If you choose the first, you'll get a Game Over sequence. Go figure, right?
Ultimately, you'll want to go for the second option.
Everyone will be lined up outside the airlock. (Funny, I don't remember this
in the show.) Once inside, you'll get your first look at the Evas. "Behold,
kids! You get to pilot THESE!" (Where the hell is Rei?) Ritsuko babbles a
little, then sneaks off. Kensuke uses the opportunity and produces a camera
out of nowhere (was he hiding it in his rectum or something?) to take a
snapshot. Naughty boy.
You'll see Shinji inside EVA-01's entry plug. "Wow-wee, being an Eva pilot is
fun now!" It sure is a far cry from his attitude in the show, anyhow.
Depending on who you came with, ve'll request to see you after the synchro
stuff that is given barely any mention in the game (probably because the
game's creators have absolutely no way to explain Eva-Pilot synchronization in
a world where your moms are somewhere besides inside the Evas. ;;p ). You'll
get some fan service, then you'll go out with the person and get a little more.
XXXXXXXXXXXXX
XXX ASUKA XXX
XXXXXXXXXXXXX
You'll be in EVA-02's Cage. "Shinji! Mite mite! I'll pose, and you'll take a
keepsake photo with Kensuke's camera! Careful, he WAS hiding it in his ass."
After posing for you once, Asuka then goes on to give you even MORE service
(apparently to make up for what she didn't provide earlier). The conversation
goes something like this:
*---------------------------------------------------------------------------*
(Asuka stretched out on EVA-02's Umbilical Bridge.)
Asuka "See, a commemorative photograph!"
Shinji "Kensuke's camera...... Since when did you...?"
Asuka "Asuka's charm, full-throttle!! ...and, take a picture."

(Asuka photo on black background.)
Asuka "Take a look, a photo of Asuka. Hmm.....
It doesn't have a certain something."
Shinji "Let's get going, we'll be in deep trouble if they find us."
Asuka "Hold on."

(Pan UP on Asuka, er...)
Shinji "You're taking off your plugsuit!?"
Asuka "Get a photo!"
Shinji "Eh?"
Asuka "Hurry up, it's freezing!"

(Second photo on black background.
Asuka "Lemme me! Oh! Very nice. Beauty and the Beast."
Shinji "Asuka, you'd better cover up your bust..."
*---------------------------------------------------------------------------*
Afterwards, there will be a scene with the three goons chatting in the lounge.
(It's scenario-independent, but it has some extra dialogue if you came with
Asuka or Rei.) Misato needs to see Kensuke for something (ohhhhh baby), so off
he goes. And is it just me, or is Toji really adorable? ::D
Then, date time! You and Asuka will take the train to Shinkichijouji; it will
be dusk by now. You'll be at the Station and you'll see Asuka sitting and
eating a burger. (Asuka manages to eat fast food and still maintain that
scrawny figure? Damn, her metabolism must be over the roof!)
You'll appear in front of the flower bed. (This is the only time you'll get to
explore Shinkichijouji at night, BTW.) Take Asuka to the Accessory Shop or
else she'll bitch and moan at you. Once inside, she'll try on a pair of
earrings.
*---------------------------------------*
Asuka: How do they look?
Shinji: They don't really suit a kid.
Asuka: I'm an adult!
Shinji: I don't know...
Asuka: Do I look cute?
Shinji: Yeah.
*---------------------------------------*
You'll take the train home (it's gone from dusk to night) and arrive at
Sengokuhara Station. Go to the Higashimachi School Route. You'll see a pan-up
of the apartment, then a scene inside with you and Asuka. She watches TV,
bored, and channel-surfs. (And in this universe, every TV shows uses
"Evangelion" BGM. How odd. ;;> ) But, of course, there's never anything good
on. She finally turns it off and asks Shinji what he's doing. "Playing an
adventure game." (Liar -- we all know he's really playing a crappy dating sim!)
She notices that there is a girl in Shinji's game and makes haste to screw his
game up. ("My saved data! You bitch!") Then she gives her boy toy some choice
glimpses of a REAL woman (assuming that Asuka qualifies...). Sadly, Yui comes
home and Asuka beats a hasty retreat. Too bad, Shinji-kun... You'll have to
stay a virgin, just a LITTLE longer.
XXXXXXXXXXX
XXX REI XXX
XXXXXXXXXXX
You'll be in EVA-01's cage. (Guess Rei figures her Eva doesn't look cool
enough?) "Oh, Ikari-kun! You make me blush like a schoolgirl! Or a drunkard,
it doesn't matter which." You'll take a photo with Kensuke's camera.
There will be a scene with the three goons chatting in the lounge. (It's
scenario-independent, but it has some extra dialogue if you came with Asuka or
Rei.) Misato needs to see Kensuke for something (ohhhhh baby), so off he goes.
And is it just me, or is Toji really adorable? ::D
Your "date" will start. Shinji and Rei will be sitting outside at dusk.
Afterwards, you'll get onto the train, but, naturally, Asuka follows to
safeguard Shinji's virginity. A heated debate over whose bitch Shinji is
ensues. (Okay -- that's a lie. I'm not sure WHAT they're arguing over,
although that pained blush on Shinji's face suggests I may be right. ;;>)
Another scene follows when they get off the train, but I forget what was
happening here. Make your own conclusions.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXX
XXX KAWORU XXX
XXXXXXXXXXXXXX
You'll get a pic of Kaworu and Shinji standing in front of EVA-05. Shinji
comments, "Kaworu-kun, your Eva is scary..." To comfort him, Kaworu replies,
"Oh, Shinji-kun, it's alright... Here, let me put my hand on your ass and make
everything better." Okay, I'm sort of lying, but Shinji DOES make the comment
about the Eva's face. (Can you really blame him?) I'm not sure how Shinji takes
the photo, being as he's in it; I guess the camera has an auto-timer function.
For your date with Kaworu-kun, you'll be taken to the shore of Ashinoko, with
the Mirror Buildings in the distance. Kaworu must have used his telekinetic
powers to lug that piano out here. Afterwards, you'll be at Sengokuhara
Station, with Kaworu reverting to his default expression for the entire game.
Shinji walks off, but, to his undoing, looks back and abruptly turns into a
pillar of salt.
Just kidding.

/ END CHARACTER SCENARIOS (for now...) /
/_______________________________________/
Once your date with whomever is over, a cut scene will start. Shinji will be
in bed, unable to sleep. You'll see Adam (you know, the "giant of light")
lumbering around at night, looking strangely disproportionate. (Apparently ve
also decided to leave the glow-in-the-dark shoulder pylons at home for this
particular session of nightwalking. ...Why am I getting "Princess Mononoke"
flashbacks?) Of course, it's just the bad drugz again -- or is it? There will
be a news report on the telly indicating that maybe it's NOT all in Shinji's
depraved little head after all. He tries to call the research facility to
report his sighting, but the phone lines are all busy.
Eyecatch time! (Something feels amiss without the halations all over the
screen.) It just says "Shin-seiki Evangelion: Koutetsu no Girlfriend 2nd" (or
"Neon Genesis Evangelion: Iron Maiden 2nd").
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
++++++++++++++++++ CHAPTER 2: SHINJI AND FRIENDS' ADVENTURE +++++++++++++++++++
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
You'll be at school. Do the following:
- Talk to Misato at staff room. [optional]
- Talk to Ritsuko at health room. [optional]
- Talk to Toku-san at the pastry corner room. [optional]
- Talk to Kensuke at back of Tennis Court.
- Talk to Toji at back of Pool.
- Get changed in the music room.
- Go to shoe rack. Head outside to start cut scene.
This is a fairly long cut scene. I couldn't follow it at all, so I attempted a
pseudo-translation, to get an idea of what was going on. It's your lucky day!
It's gym class again. The scene starts with Asuka harassing the transfer
student and bragging about her bod. Hikari warns them, "If you aren't careful,
the boys will look!" Asuka invites the attention.
You tell Asuka that you've gotten so used to seeing her in the gym outfit, it
doesn't make you feel a thing. Toji adds, "Yep-yep, Shinji said it! Anyone who
looks at Asuka is a moron!" Of course, Asuka gets pissed off, screams "What
did you say?!", and kicks you both down. Hikari comments, "Suzuhara-kun and
Ikari-kun are both prisoners of their lusts!" (I don't get it...)
*-------------------------------------------------------------------------*
TRIVIA: The shot of Asuka kicking Toji and Kensuke is a reference back
to the first "Girlfriend of Steel". In fact, Asuka's foot is taken
unchanged from the referenced cut, thus posing the question of why
Asuka is barefoot during gym class. ;;>
*-------------------------------------------------------------------------*
A scene with you and Kaworu ensues. It goes something like this:
*-------------------------------------------------------------------------*
Kaworu: A crushing blow is dealt to my love Shinji-kun.
Shinji: Kaworu-kun.
Kaworu: I cannot desert you, paying for your sins in such a way. Were
you hurt?
Shinji: The injuries are lighter than I expected.
Kaworu: Beautiful eyes like obsidians. I love you.
*-------------------------------------------------------------------------*
The others catch onto the flaming nature of the interchange. Asuka says, "Get
away from him, tanbi-otoko." (Otoko = "man". I'll leave you to look up the
meaning of "tanbi" yourself. ;;D) Rei chips in, "PERVERT." Then Hikari, "It's
raunchy and impure!"
Kensuke goes on a brief tirade: "Hey everyone! What's with today's running?
It's hardly appropriate training for pilots! At last, my time has come! It is
only fitting for Aida Kensuke to become an Eva pilot! Absolutely! Absolutely!
Abso-lutely!" (His name is what appears in the sky, in case you're curious.)
You'll find yourself at the campus. Either you can go straight to the running
course and another cut scene, or you can screw around a little. Here are some
things you can do:
- Talk to yourself at the pastry corner room. (You will muse a LOT about ...
I have no idea.)
- Screw around in the home ec room.
- Talk to yourself in the library.
- Talk to Misato in the staff room.
- Talk to Ritsuko in the health room.
- If you go to the music room, there will be a really weird noise. I need to
translate this part or else it will bother me forever.
- Talk to Kensuke on the rooftop. You'll have two options. If you pick the
second, you'll follow Kensuke to the running course; if you take the first,
you'll just have to go there yourself.
At the campus screen, Move and select the last option to go to the running
course. Another cut scene will start.
The boys converse while running. Shinji says, "The girls are so energetic.
We're not catching up at all!" Somehow, Kaworu's... er, "lifestyle" comes up.
Here's a "transration" that's probably wrong in places, but better than
nothing:
*----------------------------------------------------------------------*
Kaworu: I've worked my entire life trying to feel attracted to the
opposite sex.
Shinji: Kaworu-kun isn't interested in girls?
Toji: It's pointless to ask!
Kaworu: Because you like girls more, it's like I'm finding out what
interests me. (laugh)
Kensuke: Alright, Nagisa Kaworu-kun! Let's go plunge into that group
of girls!
Kaworu: I'm just not interested in them. With the exception of
Ayanami Rei.
Shinji: Kaworu-kun likes Ayanami, too?
Toji: Both you and Kaworu are the transfer student's favorite boys!
Kaworu: Girls use me to their advantage. Heh...
Kaworu: Should we catch up with the girls?
Kensuke: That's the way! We definitely won't lose!
*----------------------------------------------------------------------*
The boys run off without you. You tell them to wait, but no good! (Leaving
Shinji behind... Doesn't seem very Kaworu-like!) You catch your breath and
Toji drops by, jogging in place. You tell him, "You go on ahead; I'll walk."
Toji comments that your complexion doesn't look too good, then says, "I'll tell
the teacher for you, so go your own pace." You thank him. (The signs in the
background are for Kojiri and Motohakone, BTW.)
While walking, you start tripping out. "Am I alone? If I collapse like this,
will I be on the evening news?" Misato calls your name, and you think, "Has
someone come to help me? It's completely dark in front of my eyes. The water
is cold... I'm naked!"
You finally come to your senses. You're lying on a hill naked (not sure
why...), save for a conveniently-placed towel, with Misato pouring water onto
your arm from a canteen (to "prevent cardiac strain" or something). Misato
tells you not to be embarassed about being naked; nothing she hasn't seen
before, right? You're rather self-conscious about it, though, because Misato
is so hawt and you're just a toothpick boy. ;;> She tells you to drink from
her canteen. ("OMFG! It's like a second-hand kiss!")
Next we see a scene of Misato driving you and Asuka back to school. A
translation, just because it's easy:
*--------------------------------------------------------------------*
Asuka: Is this your car?
Misato: Yep. It's for monitoring you, Shinji-kun, and the others.
Shinji: It's really cool!
Misato: Thanks!
Misato: Ah, there's a communication from Hyuga-kun.
Misato: Yes, this is Lovebird.
Hyuga: Please tell us your current whereabouts.
Misato: In the forest, over.
*--------------------------------------------------------------------*
Okay, enough of that. Time to revert to my usual laziness.
You'll be at the nurse's office, naked (again!). Kensuke and Toji talk to you,
with the former announcing some cool tunnel he's discovered. Ritsuko shows up
and shoos them off. Note the fan service while she checks you out. (Ohhhh
baby, it's scrawny Shinji arse time!)
After that, you'll find yourself in the school corridor. Kensuke talks to you
about gathering everyone at the Big Apple Diner. Get Rei on the rooftop, Kaworu
in the music room, Toji in the classroom, and Asuka in the library. (You can
also talk to Hikari in the home ec room if you like.) Then go to the shoe rack,
and you'll automatically be taken outside. From here, go to Sengokuhara
Station; you'll actually be able to enter the station for once. Take the train
to Shinkichijouji Station. (BTW, for some reason, they let you take the train
back and forth between Sengokuhara and Shinkichijouji at will -- although this
doesn't serve any purpose, AFAIK.)
If you wander around, you'll be able to chat with various folks:
- Kaji at Inokashira Park
- Maya at District 6-2
- Yourself at Accessory Shop
- Kaji at Seiyu Store
- Hyuga at Books Rouet
- Maya at District 2-3
- Yourself at First Food Shop
- Aoba at District 3-2
- Aoba in Yamano Instruments
When you've had your kicks, go to the Big Apple Diner. Kensuke will announce
his discovery of a tunnel going into the Geofront and his intention of
dragging you all along to explore it. Afterwards, you'll be outside the Big
Apple.
Again, if you feel like it, you can go around and talk to people again:
- Kaworu and Asuka in Yamano Instruments.
- Hyuga at Renoir
- Kaworu at flower bed
- Fuyutsuki (OMFG!) and Asuka at Books Rouet
- Fuyutsuki (again) at District 5-3
- Kaworu and Kensuke at the Seiyu Store
- Rei and Asuka at the Accessory Shop
- Fuyutsuki (again!) at District 6-2
- Rei at First Food Shop.
- Toji at Yuzawaya.
- Toji and Asuka at Inokashira Park.
Go to the station and you'll board for Togendai. Map time!

Note that you won't be able to go to most of these places right now.
You arrive at Togendai Station. Go to the bus terminal and board the bus for
Kojiri. Head towards the tunnel, but stop by at the concentric outlet if you
want to electro-shock Shinji. ^_^ At the tunnel, there will be a cut scene.
Apparently, today is not the day for exploring, so you all go back home.
The facade of the apartment appears; it's night. Asuka will be bugging you
about something or another.
The title "And then, Sunday" appears onscreen.
Fade-in to apartment exterior. Asuka talks to you. You're supposed to go to
the station, but you can have a little fun beforehand. Here's what you can do:
- Talk to your mom in the dining room.
- Talk to yourself in the bathroom.
- Drive Asuka mad by taking your sweet time! She'll talk to you in your room,
at the intersection, in front of the school, at the campus, and at the
convenience store.
- Your dad will talk to you at the convenience store, too! Wow, does that
mean he actually lives in Sengokuhara and not the Geofront? ;;D
Go to the station and you'll board for Togendai automatically. Once there, you
can either go back to the tunnel (third option at the Kojiri Bus Stop) or
explore a little. As far as I know, this is the only time in the game you can
explore the rest of this region. It's mostly for show, really.
If you go onto the Komagatake Ropeway, talk to Asuka at the top. She'll be
going on about how it's like a date. ^_^ Maya is up there, as well. At the
Hakone Shrine, you'll also run into Hyuga (who is babbling about Misato, as
always). If you keep on talking, you can get an omikuji (a fortune telling
paper slip -- it's a Shintou thing) by chosing the first option. If you go on
to Kowakidani, Asuka's patience will be wearing thin. The station there doesn't
let you go anywhere anyway. Makes me wonder why it's there at all!
After you start walking to the tunnel entrance, you can talk to Aoba (at the
place with the boats). At the concentric outlet, you have another opportunity
to electroshock Shinji if you neglected to earlier. ;;> At the tunnel entrance,
a cut scene will start.
Everyone will gather in front of the tunnel (Rei is wearing army gloves, for
some reason). You'll start going in, and Kensuke will pull out a guidebook
(which ends up being pretty useless). When the cut scene ends, you'll be
forced to lead the party further in. Is that another map I smell? Note that the
map starts on the bottom, so that it is easier to follow through this area.

Shaft of Tunnel G-26
Phew!
**NOTE: At some point while exploring the tunnel, you'll get a cut scene with
whomever you went to the AEL with. I'll note when these happen.**
You start off in the tunnel shaft. (Talk to Toji if you like.) If you try to go
back (second option), Kensuke, being the zealous bastard he is, won't let you.
So, forward ho! Asuka will tell you to not get lost, and you'll proceed. You
can talk to Toji at the 200m point. Go forward again, and Toji and Kensuke will
talk. (For some reason, Kensuke will let you go back one screen, but no
further...) Go ahead to the 300m point, and there will be a cut scene. After
much chatter, Kensuke decides that Toji will lead and you'll be at the tail
end. ^_^
You return to the tunnel. You've reached the first junction, so bear left
(first option). The cut scene with Rei will occur. Otherwise, Rei and Asuka
will bicker.
You've reached Point MM010. There are two ways to reach MM014 from here, but,
to keep things simple, head right (second option) to MM013, then follow the
path (first option) to MM014. [Alternatively, you can select the first option
three times to reach MM014 via 011 and 012.] At MM014, go straight (option 2)
-- or left, if you came the second route -- to get the cut scene with Asuka.
You'll be at the 700m Point. If you like, you can go right into the snake cave
(second option) to activate a little scene. (No new pictures, sadly.) If not,
head onwards (first option) to the 800m Point, then onwards again to get the
scene with Kaworu. Afterwards, you'll be at the 900m Point (Point MM022).
Select the first option to go left.
At the 1km Point, everyone will talk. Save your game; a branching point is just
ahead.
After the 1.1km point, you reach the Vertical Shaft Elevator Platform. Talk and
Kensuke will inform you that the elevator can only take two at a time. Move, and
you'll be prompted to select a partner: (1) Asuka, (2) Ayanami, (3) Kaworu, or
(4) Toji. Pick whomever you like (doesn't have any impact on future events) to
get a cut scene with ver. The one with Toji is especially cute.
Sadly, I've only translated the one with Kaworu.
*---------------------------------------------------------*

(Elevator exterior shot)
Kaworu: A lift apparatus from the old days, eh?
Shinji: It was an elevator for construction work, so...
Kaworu: We're going into the Earth.
Shinji: You can really get a sense of how huge it is.
Kaworu: Please close your eyes.
Shinji: Huh?
Kaworu: Close your eyes, Shinji-kun.
Shinji: Alright... They're shut.

(Elevator interior ? Kaworu kissing Shinji)
Kaworu: A testament to our friendship, from me.
Shinji: Kaworu-kun......
Kaworu: Is that okay?
Shinji: It felt a bit indiscrete...*

* (not sure about this one)
*---------------------------------------------------------*
You'll arrive at the exit, 900m underground. Go straight ahead for another cut
scene. You discover an underground water vein and Rei convinces you that it's
okay to drink.
At MM028, take a right (first option) to reach the Fossa Magna.
Take another right (first option) if you're interested in seeing another Game
Over sequence. You'll see a door; save your game if you plan on going through
it. A top-secret area of Nerv (MJ12) lies beyond, and an MIB apprehends you.
You'll get a Game Over and end up getting transferred to a middle school in New
Osaka-2, of all places!
*---------------------------------------------------------------------------
TRIVIA: "MJ-12" is a reference to "Majestic 12", which is, Wikipedia
tells us, "the code name of a secret committee ... [Its] purpose was to
investigate UFO activity in the aftermath of the Roswell UFO incident...
This alleged committee is an important part of the UFO conspiracy theory
of an ongoing government coverup of UFO information."
*--------------------------------------------------------------------------*
Left (second option) will take you to the finish line, another cut sequence.
Shinji's stomach starts bothering him (and he wonders why Ayanami's isn't, as
well), so Rei goes haywire and calls up the command center (on a phone that
just happens to be there), even though Kensuke tries to stop her. You'll see
Corridor MJ-12. (Is it the same one as in the Game Over sequence? The four-eyed
face is missing.) Shinji manages to BM his troubles away, and, after Ritsuko
gives him the okay, you and your buddies gather by the lake at dusk, where you
get to witness Asuka and Rei's previously undisclosed Eye Laser Attacks.
The eyecatch will appear again, designating the end of the chapter.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
++++++++++++++++++++++ CHAPTER 3: STRATEGIES OF LOVE ++++++++++++++++++++++++++
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
We open with a scene where Asuka glomps Shinji while he's dressing to check out
a letter from his mom. Scenes from the AEL will flash by as Yui narrates.
You'll be at the apartment exterior. Head into town, then go to the
intersection to talk to Toji. Go to the school. You'll be taken to the campus,
then to the corridor. Now, do the following:
- Go into the home ec room. Asuka talks to you.
- Go to the classroom to talk to Kensuke.
- Go to the staff room to talk to Nebukawa no sensei.
- Go to the music room to talk to Rei.
- Go to the tennis court to talk to Hikari.
- Go back to the classroom.
A cut scene will play in which Kensuke and you spy on Toji with the aid of his
binoculars. Who's that Toji is talking to? Oo-la-la!
You'll be called over the intercom to the health room. Inside, you'll give
Ritsuko a back massage. She'll tell you that your hands are like your father's.
O~kay... Too much information!
You're returned to the corridor.
- Go to the classroom to talk to Kensuke.
- Go to the staff room to talk to the old teacher.
- Go to the shoe rack to talk to Hikari. She tells you that Rei is looking for
you. Go outside.
A cut scene will follow in which Kaworu and Rei will make overtures to you
about performing in a concert. Afterwards, you'll be at the shoe rack. Once
you're done thinking, go into the corridor. Kensuke talks to you. Go to the
classroom to talk to Asuka or to the music room to talk to Kaworu. It doesn't
matter which you pick, but may as well save your game now.
(On an aside, if you go into the home ec room and Talk over and over again,
you can get Shinji to say his catch phrase, "Nigecha dame da!" -- "I mustn't
run away!" -- up to twenty times. It doesn't seem to serve any real purpose,
tho.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~ Classroom ~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Asuka will be looking at you glumly. You try inviting her along to the concert,
but she refuses because "that girl" (Rei) is going, too. Then the tough
decision comes:
(1) Spend the day keeping Asuka company.
(2) Go to the concert with Kaworu-kun.
If you go with Asuka, she'll get all happy. Proceed to Asuka's scenario, below.
If you choose the latter, Asuka will throw a fit and attract your classmates'
attention. Go ahead to Chapter 4 for the Rei/Kaworu scenario.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~ Music Room ~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You'll find Kaworu in the music room, but Rei shows up presently. You'll have
two choices:
(1) Go to the concert with Kaworu-kun.
(2) Spend the day keeping Asuka company.
If you choose the former, Kaworu gives you a thumb's up and Rei gets all happy.
Go ahead to Chapter 4.
If you choose the latter, Kaworu will look away and Rei will get PO'd. See
below for Asuka's scenario.
XXXXXXXXXXXXX
XXX ASUKA XXX
XXXXXXXXXXXXX
You'll go to the station and take the train to Shinkichijou Station
automatically. There will be a cut scene of Asuka holding onto you at the
shopping arcade. Afterwards, you'll be in the plaza. Asuka makes you guess
where she wants to go. The answer? The Seiyu Store. (Nothing to do with
Japanese voice actors, BTW.)
After you Move twice (it doesn't matter where to), a bunch of people (among
them "Denzel Washington") will make a big deal about District 3-3, so head over
there for a cut scene. A broadcast with two men talking about Adam is being
projected onto a big screen. It cuts off. You'll be back in District 3-3, and
Asuka talks to you.
Now go to the Seiyu Store. There will be a cut scene where you meet up with
Hikari and Toji. You all decide to have dinner together.
You'll see the apartment exterior, and you'll go inside automatically. Save
your game, then head to your room. Asuka will be in there, and you'll have the
choice to either (1) return to the dining room or (2) "be aggressively attacked
by Asuka". (You'll need to pick the second option twice.) Should you decide to
make the wrong choice, you'll get another Game Over sequence: You'll see the
famous image of Asuka kicking Shinji where it counts, you wind up in the ER,
and you once again see the familiar image of Shinji in rags.
If you avoid having your testicles crushed by Asuka's shin, go to the dining
room to meet up with Toji. Then go to the living room and talk to Hikari. A cut
scene will start.
Chow time! You and Asuka take note of how Toji addresses Hikari by her first
name -- this is apparently a very big deal and indicative of very big things.
;;> Later, you ask if anyone knows about Adam. Toji thinks it's rubbish, but
you claim that you saw ver. Afterwards, Asuka and Toji get PO'd at each other
(again), but Hikari makes Kansai Boy calm down.
All of you will go for an after-dinner walk outside. Very cute. ^_^
Go ahead to Chapter 5.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
+++++++++++++++++++ CHAPTER 4: KAWORU-KUN AND THE CONCERT +++++++++++++++++++++
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
You'll go to the station automatically and the map panel will appear. You ride
to the Tokyo-3 Station.
Yep! That means it's time for another map!

You can talk to Kaworu as you explore this area. Go to the waiting room of the
music hall. A cut scene ensues.
Kaworu and you will be getting ready for the performance. Cut to the stage,
where you begin. (Anyone know what the piece you're playing is?) Rei watches
you in the audience and we get to see what sorts of flowery fantasies squirm
around inside her brain. Afterwards, she'll give you a bouquette and a hug in
the lobby.
*---------------------------------------------------------------------------
TRIVIA: The dress Rei is wearing is borrowed, slightly modified, from an
illustration Shinya Hasegawa did for the 12/95 issue of Newtype. (The
image has also been published in Newtype 100% Collection and Die Sterne.)
The outfit has also been used for a Rei resin model.
*--------------------------------------------------------------------------*
You'll be at the front of the theatre. Exit to the boulevard, save your game,
and go to the cafe. After talking to Kaworu and Rei, you'll have to make
another hard choice.
(1) Date Kaworu.
(2) Date Rei.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXX
XXX KAWORU XXX
XXXXXXXXXXXXXX
You seem to be tormented by grief about not going with Ayanami. You and Kaworu
converse on a ledge above a hot spring in Owakudani. To make up for the lack
of "action", you'll get an image (one of Shinji's fantasies?) that will make
shounen-ai fangirls everywhere giggle with delight. Sadly, tho, Kaworu will
no longer be a pursuable love interest from this point forward.
Go to Chapter 6.
XXXXXXXXXXX
XXX REI XXX

Ah, this is a little less morose than the Kaworu date, and just as brief. You
and Rei will wade at the beach, only to be hit by a really big-ass wave. You'll
get a nice shot of Rei in her undies, with her clothes hanging out to dry.
Eyecatch. Go ahead to Chapter 6.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
+++++++++++++++++++++++ CHAPTER 5: COUPLES' NIGHT OUT +++++++++++++++++++++++++
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Asuka is watching TV (again?). While you're stretching, your cell phone starts
ringing. Who else could it be but Rei? She mentions the concert that you
missed and asks you to come to the station to see what she's wearing. You tell
her that you've make a prior commitment. Rei cuts you off, and you deliberate
about what to do.
(1) Spend the day with Asuka.
(2) Go to the station to wait for Ayanami.
Too bad you haven't been able to save your game in a while, huh? Decide what
you're going to do. (There are three ways the evening could play out!)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~ Stay with Asuka ~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you decide to stay with Asuka, she'll climb onto you and ask, "Are you going
to see that girl?" You answer to the negative.
A cute scene will follow of Asuka scrubbing your back in the bath. Too bad
she's wearing a swimsuit, huh? After she hugs you (awww...), there will be a
scene where you say good night to one another... I won't spoil the juicy
details.
Go ahead to Chapter 5.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~ Wait for Rei ~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Asuka tells you to hurry back. You'll see the apartment facade at night. Save
your game while you have the chance, then head into town. (If you head towards
school instead, you will talk to Toku-san. Afterwards, you'll be made to head
towards the station.)
There will be a scene of you rushing across the pedestrian bridge. You'll then
see Rei at the station, looking rather pretty in her dress (same as from
Chapter 4). You will have two choices:
(1) Return home, where Asuka is waiting.
(2) Go ahead and depart with Ayanami.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~ Return to Asuka ~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you choose the former, you'll go back home automatically. The evening has
been spoiled for Asuka, and you by extent. She sits in a towel, giving you
the cold shoulder.
Eyecatch. Go to Chapter Six.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~ Depart with Ayanami ~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You and Rei enjoy an intimate night on the town. After taking the train back,
you return to a dark apartment. After turning the living room lights on, you
see a marquee message on your laptop from Asuka, "I'm going home. Don't
call me! -Asuka." Well, guess you totally blew THAT chance, huh?
Eyecatch. Proceed to Chapter Six.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
+++++++++++++++++++++++ CHAPTER SIX: ADULTS' PARADISE +++++++++++++++++++++++++
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Things start off with an extended cut scene where, finally, the Angels arrive!
Yes, that's right -- AngelS. Not all of them, but a good number: Gaghiel,
Shamshel, Arael, Sahaquiel, Ramiel, Zeruel, Israfel, Sachiel, and Matarael.
(Bardiel and Tabris are absent from the roster for a reason; Leliel, Armisael,
Sandalphon, and Ireul don't have similar excuses, though.) You look pretty
anxious about the imminent threat.
*------------------------------------------------------------------------------*
TRIVIA: The background music here is A-16, a piece never used in the anime
itself. Although it was released on the "S^2 Works" CD Box Set, it never
received a proper title. This piece is used again in the next chapter.
*------------------------------------------------------------------------------*
You'll be in the standby room. Asuka lies on a beach chair, with the rest of
the Children seated behind her. There will be an argument of some sort, and
you'll have to choose sides.
(1) Side with Asuka.
(2) Support Ayanami.
Go down to your respective scenario.
XXXXXXXXXXXXX
XXX ASUKA XXX
XXXXXXXXXXXXX
Asuka will leave the standby room. You'll be in the corridor outside the Eva
Cages. Save your game. If you want to see the final Game Over sequence, go to
Kaji's melon patch. This is beyond bizarre... so here's a translation of the
dialogue:
*--------------------------------------------------*
(EVA-02 stomping around on the Geofront.)
Asuka "Toryaa! Rotating kick!"
(Shinji goes flying.)
Shinji "Uwaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!"

(ER.)
"Brain waves are weak. He's unconscious."
"His heartbeat stopped."
"Electric shock."
"Pulse has been restored."
"It's no good!"
"10:45 PM. His heart stopped."

(BIOS screen.)
"The clock is climbing to 777 MHz."
"Clock ratio has switched to double that."

(Robo-Shinji.)
Robo-Shinji "I am Robo-Shinji. I carry out my
duties in order to preserve the public order of
New York City."
Narrator "It was in this way that peace was
restored to the world.
Robo-Shinji. We'll never forget what you've
done."
*--------------------------------------------------*
Are you scared yet? Anyway, moving on...
To activate the next cute scene, go to EVA-02's Cage.
EVA-02 isn't there! Asuka's taken her up to the Geofront, where she angrily
kicks around frighteningly huge melons. (What kind of fertilizer is Kaji using
on those things?!?) In EVA-01, you rush to stop her, but she kicks (tosses?)
you onto the melons. Embarassing, huh?
You'll be in the infirmary... again. Kaji shows up with some melons and talks
to Maya. (Isn't Misato supposed to show up at times like this?)
Afterwards, you'll automatically go into Passage C-1. You talk to Asuka, and
you're taken to the L-1 Elevator Hall. If you go to the melon patch, it has
become a giant hole! Likewise, if you go to the infirmary, it will use a
different image. When you're done, enter the elevator.
A scene with Ritsuko, Gendo, Shinji, and Asuka will play. After that, you'll
see Misato's car racing on the road to your school; it changes lanes. You and
Misato will have a chat inside. At school, you'll visit the old teacher, and
Misato makes him blush like a school girl.
Misato leaves you in the school corridor. Do the following:
- Talk to Hikari in the home ec room.
- Go back out and Misato talks to you again.
- Talk to Misato in the staff room.
- Talk to Kaworu in the music room.
- Talk to Toji on the roof.
- Talk to Kensuke at the pool and the tennis court.
- Go to the classroom.
It will pan up on the 2-A sign. Asuka will be inside and she'll get all pissy.
Another cut scene will follow where you get to hang out with Misato, Kaji, and
Asuka. (As if Sadamoto's manga wasn't bad enough, we have to see Kaji smoking
HERE, too. Why must they blemish his awesome character so?)
XXXXXXXXXXX
XXX REI XXX
XXXXXXXXXXX
Asuka leaves, followed by Toji and Kaworu. Rei lies on the beach chair,
providing plenty of "Service, Service!" to the audience. Misato interrupts the
chemistry to inform you that you have some free time. ...Free time, when the
fate of the world is at stake? Well, who are you to argue?
You'll be outside the standby room. For a little optional run, go to the
command room to hear Fuyutsuki and Gendo argue over food. You'll be presented
with two choices:
(1) Try talking.
(2) Take my leave as is.
Of course, the first option will provide results the same as when you last
tried talking to your father, so don't even bother. Just leave.
Now, you can go to Kaji's melon patch to talk to him. When you're done, go to
Corridor A-1. Rei asks you to go to the park with her. After some more service
("Ayanami's navel! zOMG!"), you'll go to the next chapter.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
+++++++++++++++++++++++ CHAPTER 7: THE FINAL BATTLE +++++++++++++++++++++++++++
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Sit back and relax. The entire chapter is automatic.
Sometimes one hears the question, "Why weren't there multi-Angel attacks in the
anime?" Well, boys and girls, this is PRECISELY why. Angels, like any
traditional "antagonist", only have a certain amount of offensive/defensive
ability allotted to them per episode. If multiple Angels attacked at the same
time, this amount would be evenly distributed through the Angels, so each
individual Angel would be weaker than if ve attacked alone. The validity of
this hypothesis is effectively, devastatingly demonstrated in this game. ;;D
Anyway, for a "Final Battle", this is horrifically disappointing. Do you have
any idea how much the anime would have sucked if Angels could be taken out with
a single punch, kick, or head lock? Laaaaaa~me.
Just for the hell of it, here's the Official Reichu TransRation:
*---------------------------------------------------------------------------*
Gendo "Lock down all bulkheads leading into Central Dogma!"
Misato "Emergency lockdown on E Block bulkheads!"
(Passage closing.)
"Executing emergency lockdown on all E Block bulkheads including the Main
Shaft!"
(Nerv personnel in command center.)
Misato "What do they want?!"
(Ramiel on-screen.)
Hyuga "They are heading for our location."
(Row of CPUs.)
Maya "Our calculations can't keep up!"
(Coordinates of targets on main screen.)
Misato "They're changing their predicted paths."
(Gendo posing.)
Gendo "All Evangelions, move out!"

(Eva line-up.)
Shinji "The town is being destroyed..."
Toji "What should we do? We've been given the order to attack."
Ayanami "The residents are all taking refuge, so no lives should be in
danger."
Kaworu "If we attack, I'd guess they'd be well able to launch a counter-
offensive."
Asuka "They're trashing our city, so I say we trash them!"
(EVA-02 kicking Matarael.)
Asuka "Doryaaaaaaa!"
(Coordinates on main screen.)
Misato "EVA-01 and EVA-03 are moving towards the urban district; EVA-05
has moved 2 kilometers southwest!"
(EVA-01 with Sachiel in a headlock.)
Shinji "Wah! I pinned it down!"
(EVA-03 punching Zeruel.)
Toji "My punch smashes concrete!"
(EVA-05 taking out Israfel.)
Kaworu "Please don't take this personally."
(EVA-00 with Positron Cannon.)
Misato "Destroy it before it can shoot back."
Rei "Understood!"
(Shinji inside entry plug.)
Rei "The blue one is down."
Asuka "I took one down with a single blow!"
Toji "Same here!"
Kaworu "I get the feeling that this is a bit too simple."
Shinji "It's coming..."
(Adam walking among the mountains.)
Shinji "The giant of light."
(Gaghiel exploding underwater.)
Asuka "I did it!"
(EVA-03 punching Shamshel.)
Toji "A hit!"
(EVA-05 watching Arael vanish.)
Kaworu "Those with intelligence equal to our own?......"
(EVA-00 trying to stop Sahaquiel.)
Ayamami "No good! I'm not strong enough! Ikari-kun!"
(Shinji being enveloped by Adam's light.)
Shinji "It's trying to say something to me."
Asuka "Stupid Shinji, what are you spacing out for?"
Toji "Hurry! Help Ayanami! Moron!"

Yui Voice "Shinji."
Shinji "Mother."
Yui Voice "You've already fought enough."
Yui Voice "It's okay for you to take it easy."
Shinji "Right."
Gendo Voice "Shinji."
Shinji "Father."
Gendo Voice "From now on, you have to walk by yourself."
Shinji "........."

Asuka "Shinji! Shinji!!"
Shinji "Huh... Asuka!"
Asuka "It's coming down right above you!"
(EVA-01 helps EVA-00 halt Sahaquiel.)
Shinji "Ayanami!"
Ayanami "Ikari-kun!"
*---------------------------------------------------------------------------*
So... what the heck happened to Adam?
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
+++++++++++++++++++ CHAPTER 8: UNTIL THE DAY WE MEET AGAIN ++++++++++++++++++++
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
This is pretty self-explanatory... Humanity saved, let's party! Too bad we're
all gonna be separated soon as it's over!
The bulletin board at the AEL has a listing of the pilots' reassignments to
different branches of the AEL (the one in Hakone, a.k.a. Tokyo-3, is the
headquarters). (Some of these were hard to figure out because the katakana was
so messed up! The one I've listed as "Bordeaux" actually goes "BORUDIEKKUSU",
which sounds nothing like "Bordeaux", but what other location in France could
it possibly be? Oh, and "Nevada" was written "Nevata". Doh!)
*-----------------------------------------------------------------------*
Project E2 Pilot Reassignments

Soryu Asuka Langley
Nurburgring Artificial Evolution Laboratory

Toji Suzuhara
Nevada State, Yucca Mountain Artificial Evolution Laboratory

Kensuke Aida
Central Africa Artificial Evolution Laboratory

Rei Ayanami
France, Government-Operated Bordeaux Artifical Evolution Laboratory

Kaworu Nagisa
Sputnik Artificial Evolution Laboratory

Shinji Ikari
Hakone Artificial Evolution Laboratory Headquarters
*-----------------------------------------------------------------------*
Sputnik AEL? Does that mean that Kaworu gets sent into orbit? ::D
Eventually, you'll get to pick your ending! Too bad Kaworu was 'eliminated'
back in Chapter 4, otherwise this game could have followed its predecessor's
example. Anyhow, when prompted, here are your choices:
I'll...
(1) ...take Ayanami and leave.
(2) ...stay here with Asuka.
The Rei ending has Shinji reducing his Eva to little more than a car to 'drive'
his girlfriend to the beach with. Does he have any idea how much it costs to
operate an Eva for even a minute? Oh, wait, this is a dating game -- such
concerns do not factor in! So, night on the beach, la la la, "Goodbye, Asuka",
la la la, Adam, la la la, Kensuke sets his sights on Asuka, la la la, ten years
later they've done the nasty and suffered the consequences. (I bet their kid
has twelve fingers altogether.)
The Asuka ending is not nearly as involved. They kiss, and, next day, everybody
says their goodbyes. Since Asuka is apparently allergic to aircraft, she gets
sent back to Deutschland via ship, and, for some reason, Shinji is suddenly
exponentially taller. (Funny -- he was only around Asuka's height that morning.
He must have been eating some of Kaji's fertilizer.) I think Shinji goes with
her, although I ought to check sometime just to be sure.
Tada! You beat the game! Pretty grueling, wasn't it? Congratulations -- you are
now an enlightened human being! (That is, you are if this game has ensured that
you never touch a single dating sim ever again.)
*-----------------------------------------------------------------------------*
TRIVIA: The ending song is "Mugen Houyou" ("Eternal Embrace"), sung by Yoko
Takahashi, who has done a number of NGE songs, such as "Zankoku na Tenshi
no These", "Tamashii no Rufuran"(for REBIRTH), and "Yokan" (for the first
GOS). Strange thing is, this game came out in 2003, whereas "Mugen Houyou"
was released on the third NGE TV soundtrack back in 1996. Was it originally
just an image song or something?

I hope you enjoy my walkthrough as much as I suffered making it. Since this is
my first attempt at making one, I'd appreciate any feedback you might have to
offer. You know where to reach me.
For the legal mumbo jumbo, this guide is COPYRIGHT (C) 2005 RACHEL K. CLARK.
I'm not making any money off this, and neither will you. The point is, don't
steal my work, otherwise you will automatically doom yourself to becoming the
main ingredient in a very special, limited-edition Big Mac. You better believe
it. Besides, this walkthrough was written by a total weirdo. You wouldn't want
people to think that YOU'RE a weirdo too, now would you?
Also, this walkthrough will be exclusively available at www.gamefaqs.com
(which It is a stable, reputable site) and my own "Evangelion" site at
www.evacommentary.org. Having it hosted only at these couple of places will
ensure that everyone always get the most up-to-date version. Honestly, why would
you *need* to have it on your server, anyway, if it's readily available
elsewhere? So, don't bother asking me if you can host it, unless you think you
have a really, really good reason. And if I find this walkthrough hosted without
prior consent anywhere else on the Internet... You know that tiny deserted
island with one palm tree that cartoon characters always get shipwrecked on?
That will become your permanent residence. So just follow the rules, mmkay?
Credit goes to me, myself, I, and all of those online Japanese dictionaries I'm
always referencing. Oh, and to a couple of individuals (who will remain
anonymous) for helping a cheapskate like myself get ahold of the game in the
first place. (I have so much legally-obtained NGE merchandise I could be
considered diseased. I refuse to feel ashamed about not spending my money on
the crappy dating sims, too. ^_^)
