Throughout this FAQ you will see the words "Index Number" and "Search
Field". These are to help you locate certain sections of the FAQ, as
listed in the index. Use Ctrl + F on most Word Processors and in Internet
Explorer to use the Find/Locate command.
Example:If you are looking for the section "Coaster Basics - Basics",
type 'ii-a' into the Find box. 'ii' is the Index Number and 'a' is the section
number. This will take you to the beginning of the section.

Rollercoasters are what define your park. That means you'll want to build
the best Rollercoasters possible. But because of the high costs involved,
you don't have the money to build a failure. So this is here to help you
achieve the pinnacle of Rollercoaster building, excitement rates of 6+.

Introduction
============
When you choose to build a coaster you are given a choice screen, here you
can choose to 'Build a Custom Ride', to build the games default rides, or
any you have saved/downloaded. If you choose either the second or third
option, you will have to select a location for your Rollercoaster, use the
zoom out option to get a better idea of where to put it, and the directional
change button(in the window) to change the direction of the Rollercoaster.
If you choose to build a Custom Ride, you will have to select the station
location, and build on from there, adding climbs, drops, loops and this,
that, and the other. Also, when choosing to build a pre-designed ride,
you can click the camera icon to see a picture(254x200 pixels) of the ride.
This is very helpful to see what the ride looks like.
=---------------------------------=
=- Design Tips -=
=---------------------------------=
Search Field: ii-b
- Try to build your Rollercoasters with a medium Intensity Rating, almost
every guest will go on these rides. Rides with higher intensity ratings
attract a lesser crowd, but people will still go on them. Lower intesity
rides also attract a smaller number of guests. Try and keep the rating
to medium.
- The excitement rating of your Rollercoaster is what attracts people to
your ride, but if the intensity rating is Ultra-Extreme, you are unlikely
to get many guests on it. The higher the Excitement Rating the Better!
- The nausea rating of your ride will not effect how many people go on
it, but will determine the way they feel getting off. The lower the
better, for this one.
- The above rules are general rules, but try to build at least one Extreme
intensity Rollercoaster(for the wild ones) and one low intensity one
(for the scared ones).
- When you build a coaster first price it high, then over time lower the
price to keep a steady number of guests, and still make a profit.
- Always build benches at the exit of your more intense rides.
- Try and build toilets near the exits of the Extreme/Ultra-Extreme Rides.
- Never build shops near a rollercoaster, a guest with a low nausea rating
going on a high intensity ride with a full stomach isn't good for your
path.
- Acoording to the game manual, you should build low intensity rides near
the Rollercoasters to make guests get up the nerve to go on your
rollercoasters, personally I don't see the effects of this, but it could
work.
- Scenery and cross-overs/unders add to the excitement of a ride.
- Going underground also adds to the excitement of a ride.
- Duelling rollercoasters(ones side by side which are synchronised) increase
the excitement of both coasters.
- You can only synchronise rides if they are going the same direction and
if their stations both end side by side.
- You can synchronise more than two Rollercoasters, in one park I have
eight(8) synchronised coasters(all synchronised with each other, not
four groups of 2, just one group of 8)!
- Make sure you have enough handymen to clean up peoples dinners after an
intense ride.
- Most Rollercoasters are not popular when it's raining, but ones with
roofs or covered-in cars are.

Introduction
============
This is here to tell you how to build roller coasters, it's not for tips
or strategies. You'll find eact piece by piece construction guides on how
to build Roller Coasters. If you wish to add your Roller Coaster to this,
send us the instructions or the ".td4" file. Although we accept both forms,
if you send the instructions(use layout of mine below), they will be updated
to the FAQ quicker. Thanks. If you are sending a track file make sure to add
your name to the filename(e.g "Phobia by AlaskaFox.td4"). If you send in a
rct td4 file, it may not be updated straightaway, so be patient.
NOTES:
======
Statistics may change on unlevel ground.
We have been careful with our commas (,) so if you assume a mistake is in
place, you are wrong, for example: bank small left - that may seem in need of
a comma after the small left, but in fact it makes perfect sense.
Climb Hill means a 30 degree hill with a lifting chain
Climb Hill60 means a 60 degree hill with a lifting chain
Climb Hill Flat means a flat piece, but with lifing chain
Flat, Down and Up, indicate direction of straights
Down60 means a 60 degree drop
Down90 means a 90 degree drop!
Up60 means 60 degrees upwards straight
Banked-X is on a flat unless otherwise indicated
Please remember that if a key is not listed here use your initutive.

-= THE LITTLE THINGS =-

Search Field: v-a
Ok, now that you know how to build a rollercoaster, let me tell you the
little bits - and how to make them work well for you! Firstly i'm starting off
with "On-Ride-Photo Sections."
What are they?: An on ride photo section is a photo section on a
rollercoaster, it takes photos of all the passengers and as
they leave they may buy a photo, thus boosting revenue.
Do they work?: Well there main task - making money - is as always a tough
one, as only 1 in 5 may buy a photo and they also add to the
cost of both construction and maintinence of your
rollercoasters. However despite these setbacks, they usually
boost profits by more than they cost to build and run for a
year combine!
How should I Well to get maximum profit from them you must consider the
use them?: following aspects of there cost, price and location in
relation to your individual unique rollercoaster:
o What do you charge? £2.50, £2.00, £1.50, £1.00, £0.50? I
would recommend a standard of £1.50 - but for a
rollercoaster with a good drop - then more.
o How many people buy them? 1 in 4, 5, 6, 7...10? To get more
people to buy them, make sure the price is reasonable and
they are well located on your rollercoaster.
o Which of my rollercoasters need an one? Well all of them
really!
Where do I to Well as you have just seen, its location will determine
locate an on- several key factors like price and sales penetration; so this
ride-photo is a iffy subject. The best place is always near the end of a
section?: rollercoaster after a 30 mile an hour drop of between 4 and
10. Also if the train has just left a corkscrew, loop, or
other added piece, then it is also a good location.
When should I When it has reached the following targets:
be satisfied o 1 in 4 buying a photo, you can check this by doing rough
with my on-ride devision of your totals, e.g. 567 passengers so far and
-photo?: 142 photos sold, so thats roughly one in 5 - but really
3.99295774647887323943661971830986!
o A profit of about £1,500 per month, of course this figure
is not an exact, as some rollercoasters will boost £2,000,
£3,000 and even higher - as will some contribute, £1,000,
£500, or even less!

=- Queues -=
=---------------------------=
Search Field: v-b
Secondly I must deal with queues, the reason being: Customers usually spend
10 minutes in a queue and 42 seconds on the ride especially with
rollercoasters, and this presents a dilemma as well as an opportunity, so I
will deal with both.
The dilemma...
The dilemma is how to stop customers getting bord, restless, anger and
impatient. The first thing to do in a large theme park is, go to the ride list
and view in order of queue time, then select the top three and put
entertainers in them, make sure to keep them in the queues. Secondly don't
make queues too long, they should just be able to hold enough passengers for
1.5 trains. Finally, don't just wrap queues around themselves, theme the area
near them, put them under loops or near the coasters track, this excites the
guests.
The opportunity...
The opportunity is only seen by people with true strategical, logical and
quick minds, they always see a problem as an opportunity to improve. The
reason for improving is to two fold, two boost a rides popularity, and to
boost park ratings - which will please guests and win awards which will
attract more guests. So to take advantage, do as was said in the dilemma; cut
queue lenght, make the queue interesting and theme it.
=--------------------------=
=- Speed -=
=--------------------------=
Search Field: v-c
Thirdly I must talk about speed, because speed is the thing that has the most
infulence on coaster design and layout. Firstly may I say:
o Max speed should never be less than 20 miles per hour or higher than 40
miles per hour.
o Average speed should never be less than 8 miles per hour or more than 35
miles per hour.
o After a large drop where speed hits 35+ miles per hour, it should be
immediately countered by a gain in track height.
Now for the most part you won't go wrong if you follow the above, but to get
most from speed add corkscrews, loops etc., just make sure speed does not
exceed 40 miles an hour on these.

=- Saving Money -=
=---------------------------------=
Search Field: v-d
Well what does saving money have to do with construction of rollercoasters?
The answer is rollercoasters are both the biggest cost in a park and the
biggest revenue generater in a park. So heres a few small tips:
o You must accept that long rides tend to make more money but they cost more,
so once you have more than a good few large long rollercoasters, investigate
small ones - a wild mouse will cost maybe £2,000 to build and will probably
generate profit of the same figure each month, while a powered launch steel
rollercoaster will never cost more than £2,500 but can make up to £13,000 a
month.
o Keep your coaster compact, this will make it shorter but will save money and
because the tracks are entwined it won't hurt the excitement rating - it can
even boost it.
o Don't over borrow for coaster construction.

=- General Tips -=
=---------------------------------=
Search Field: vi-a
o To get a rollercoaster that will definitely have good ratings, make it long
with only a few drops and not that fast, a long, low, slow rollercoaster
will always be popular because of the lenght.
o Be creative with space, you can usually fit most rollercoasters into less
than 20x20 squares. Always make the most use of tunnels underground, tight
corners and height.
o An on-ride-photo piece will always give you an extra 40% money, so put one
on every ride that you can.
o Its far cheaper to build on land than over water or underground, so make the
most of the space you have on land.
o You should always build the rollercoaster first - then add themeing, shops,
new rides, new paths etc., the rollercoaster is always the first item in a
new section of a park.
o Entangling two or more rollercoaster adds hugely to excitement, in other
words, build two or more rollercoasters beside each other and overlap, build
underneath, through loops etc.
o Only build rides you would be prepared to go on yourself, that will always
be the best guide to ratings.
o The train or car in use on a rollercoaster has a large effect on popularity,
so choose wisely and change every now and then so people will come back and
go on it again.
o Drops into tunnels are one of the most influential factors in your ratings,
so make sure to make opportunities for yourself.
o Experimentation is the best thing for getting use to building
rollercoasters.
o Remember, you don't have to spend thousands to get a popular coaster,
a good cheap one is far better than a bad expensive one.

Search Field: vi-b
Q: How many rollercoasters are there?
A: 24.
Q: Why can't I every get a decent set of ratings, I always have high nasuea
and intensity?
A: The best bit of advice is, keep average speed at 10-15mph and highest speed
at 35-45mph.
Q: My rollercoasters keep crashing, help!
A: The main cause of crashes are high speed over bumps, so if theres a section
of the rollercoaster that is bumpy or has high speeds, a set of brakes
might help.
Q: After a rollercoaster crashes, is there any way to fix it?
A: Yes, close the ride, and then double click the red(stop) button. But,
guests may still ignore this ride. So if this happens, close the ride,
open the construction, delete the last bit of track, and replace it
with a new piece of the same track. Now th guests will think it's
a brand-new coaster.
