===============================================================================

Welcome to 'Qin: Tomb of the Middle Kingdom' for the PC, released by SouthPeak
Interactive in 1995.

Your goal is to explore the realms of the tomb to find five ingredients for an
Elixir of Immortality Hal Davis of Mega Media has sent you on an exhibition
for.

Portals area available in each area to warp between them. This makes it easier
to travel around later on, even though you hardly need to do much of that if
you follow this walkthrough as your guide.

There is a compass in the bottom right corner which is your best method of
finding something when I give a direction. Naturally, F means Forward, B means
Backwards, L and R are Left and Right respectively. The arrows on the bottom
left tell you where you can go at this moment.

The game boasts a large archive containing information to read about. If you
have the time and interest then there is really a lot of stuff to find useful
that may help you figure out puzzles on your own.

Since you are in a Chinese realm, all the writings are in Chinese characters.
To help with your quest you have been given an Interpreter function in the
menu. Whenever you have some Chinese characters on the screen you can press
this button and it will give a list of all characters with a translation. Often
there are more than one so you will have to identify the correct translations,
but I hope you are capable for doing so yourself.

03.)                    WALKTHROUGH                                  G0300
===============================================================================

Entrance:
`````````
After the introduction, turn towards the door and click on the character on the
side which means 'mercury'. Pass through the door and turn around to find
another character meaning 'fire'. Click on it as well. Turn around again and
run through to the other side of the hall. Behind this door is another symbol
if you turn around, meaning 'water'. With these three buttons pressed you can
approach the large boulder. You have a small puzzle here. Click on the
rightmost character and place it into the empty slot in the middle. Leave this
place.
Courtyard:
``````````
Move F, L, F, R, F over the bridge, L, F, F.

Puzzle A: Enter the first room on the right. Go F to find five rods on a chair.
Pick up one and turn left, inserting it into the appropriate place. The color
chart on the left of this body should make it easy enough to figure out.
Nevertheless, the red one is far up, the white is on the right central area,
black is the lowest on the right side and yellow is just above that. This just
leaves green on the left side of the body. When you have inserted them all
correctly the eyes will flash.

Puzzle B: Outside the door, go R, R, F, R into the next room. Go L and F to
have a puzzle presented to you. Your goal is to have the building in the center
be the best feng shui as possible (on the right of the chart) by placing the
pictures accordingly. The solution is easy to show but some images may look
different to you than what they appear to me. Keep in mind that the gray image
is not used at all. By elimination you will probably get 6 or 7 of them right
and then you can figure out what I mean with the rest.
------------------------------
Trees   Mountains  Hill
Road               Waterfall
Tiles   Cliff      Bridge
------------------------------
If done correctly, the puzzle will automatically zoom out again.

Puzzle C: Outside the room, turn R and enter the next room. Go F until you can
read the writing on the apparatus and then click on it to watch a scene.

Puzzle D: In the room next to this one (the last one you have no been in yet)
is a compass. Click on the top right until the map is aligned correctly. You
will know when this is done because it will make a sound and zoom back out.

The block outside the rooms should now hold a golden plate. If not then you
must have failed to complete one of the puzzles above. Pick up the plate and
walk northeast until you find a spoon-shaped monument in front of the palace
gates. Place the plate in the square at the south side of this spoon.

Run east, cross the bridge, L and grab an arrow from the pile in front of the
warrior statues. Return across the bridge and place the arrow into the crossbow
to fire it. Back across the bridge, face the wheel on the right and remove the
block. From here, go B, R, F, F, R, F to see a small sequence with a boat. Grab
the bamboo on the boat and turn B, L, F to use it on the viaduct gap. Go F, F,
R, F, R and interact with the lamp. Continue R, F, L, F, F, R, F, through the
gate into the workshop, then F to approach the furnace.

Grab a lump of coal from the left of the furnace and dump it into said furnace.
Do the same with iron which is slightly in front of the coal box. Grab some
fire from the right of the furnace into the mix and you should be getting
molten iron. Pick up the spoon it made. Return to the palace gates and place
the newly-created spoon on the plate south of the large spoon. Enter the
palace.

Palace:
```````
Go F, F, R, F, R, F, F, R, F, F, R, F to find a room. Turn L and go into the
next room above. There is a table with cinnabar. Pick up the cinnabar and place
it into the incense burner. After the scene, go B, B, L, F, F, L, F, F, F, L,
F, into another room.
There are six bars on this table and a large circular disk hanging in a frame.
If you zoom in on the frame you will find a riddle in Chinese. Using the
interpreter function you can solve this on your own if you want to read the
archives thoroughly, otherwise just pick the right most bar (6) to and place it
on the riddle. Another one will pop up, this time the answer is 5. The third
and final riddle's answer is 2. Afterwards you have some items to pick up. Grab
the golden tree and move B, L, F, R, F, R, F, F.
Place the golden tree on the left mirror. Return to the items (B, B, R, F, F,
L, F, L, F) and pick up the stone rooster. Back at the altar (B, L, F, R, F, R,
F, F), select the right mirror for this object. Now turn left to see some
bells. If you checked out the stairs you may have noticed the symbols, but to
make it easier you should think of the layout like this:
...A B....
.C D E....
..........
Play the following song: E, D, C, D, B, A, B, D, E. The correct song will open
up a passage.
Underground Cave:
`````````````````
Walk past the well (portal) and turn right to find a pit. Go F until you
eventually run into a door. To solve this puzzle, click the top right twice,
the top left four times, and then the top right twice again. Move L, F, F, F,
R, B, L and push the scepter. Go directly F, through the door.

Cross the bridge and continue F to run into the water tank. Turn L, L, F, L, F
for the next puzzle. This is a folding puzzle which takes some getting used to.
For my solution, imaging each screen to have a A-Z horizontal and 1-9 vertical
grid. As the size of the paper changes with each step, the grid will too. I
hope this makes sense. The solution is B1, A2, C1, C3, D3, B1, A2, B3. You will
automatically go to the next area.

Garden:
```````
Go F, but not into the well (portal) and instead go R, F, F, F, F, L, F, F, F,
F and wait for the fish to appear. Keep waiting until it disappears and re-
appears a few times. Eventually it will jump onto the dock and disappear.
Turn around and go F to the well, around it, then keeping going F on this path
until you have a branch covering most of the screen. At this point you will
want to turn R and F for a tangram puzzle. The graphic solution is a little
ugly and has the wrong aspect ratio, yet I think it should be clear enough how
to solve it.
The game does not care about the exact positioning too much, just try to get
the pieces lined up correctly first before trying to refine their positioning.
When done, move R, R, F and interact with the ginseng root on the ground only
for it to disappear.
Go B, R, Fx8, L, L, F, F until you hit a gate that plays some music. Like with
the previous musical puzzle, use the following chart to identify the notes:
A B
C
 D
E
F G
Play G, C, A, C, A, E, F, B to open the door. Go F until you run into the
telescope. Move the right slider up to 75% and then move the other one around
until you find the star constellation. Once you have a glimpse of it, use the
sliders to have it dead center. This will start a sequence and move you to the
next area.
Mountains:
``````````
Turn R and pick up some gold. Go R, R, F, F, R and place the goal into one of
the two boats in the pond. Go L, F, and grab cinnabar, then move B, L and place
that into the other boat. Now go L, F until you run into a small animation.
Continue L, F, F, F, L, B, R, F and use the portal to return to the other
areas. Your destination is the courtyard but on the way you will also find some
green fungus floating in the well of the underground cave if you did not do
that earlier.

Courtyard (2):
``````````````
Run B, R, F, F, L and watch the sequence with the boat. Grab the goal that is
on it and go to the workshop (B, B, R, F, F). Place the gold into the furnace
and it mix it with coal and fire. You should know where that is. The result is
a golden spoon which you should. To move on, go F into the spoon.
Endings:
````````
Ending A: F, L, F, F, L, F to enter a portal without obtaining the elixir.

For the other endings, go F, B, L, L, F to find the room with the elixir. If
you have collected all items then you should automatically gain the elixir. If
there is an empty spot then you can just walk into it to arrive at the location
it can be found and retrieve the object now. Exit this circular room.

Ending B: F, R, F, F, L and click on the sarcophagus.

Ending C: F, R, F, F, L and click on the sphere above the sarcophagus.

Ending D: F, L, F, F, L, F through the portal.
