In Praetorians there are 3 civilizations:
The Romans, that are the most organized of them all;
The Barbarians, strong but very disorganized
The Egyptians, Also disorganized. Their normal units are faster to build.
----------------------------------
2. Roman units
----------------------------------
Auxiliary infantry
Description:
These are your roman builders.
Use them to construct catapults, assault towers, most important, Your garrison
and stuff alike. They are not a good choice for battle, except for their
pilums, as a before melee attack.
Can cross shallow waters and hide in bushes or forests.
Legionnaires
Description:
These are very good in battle.
Very well armored infantry, good against basic infantry, spearmen, and archers.
They have a special formation, the Turtle Formation is a massive defense
formation. The Legionnaires get all together and cover themselves up with their
shields making arrows and other attacks much less damaging, and plus
Legionnaires can also attack in this formation!
They can also use Pilums, so the enemy becomes weaker before actual combat,
however they cannot use Pilums while in Turtle Formation.
They can also hide in forests and bushes, but cannot cross shallow waters. :(
Archers
Description:
These are... well archers lol.
They have the stationary formation which greatly increases range... specially on
higher ground. Best used if hidden in a forests with some Legionnaires and
alike to protect them against incoming enemy heading toward the forest. Archers
are weak in melee combat but strong - especially in numbers - at long range.
They can hide in forests and bushes, and can cross shallow waters.
Spearmen
Description:
spearmen, as the name says, have spears and are excellent against cavalry.
They have a two special formations: The Stationary formation, and The
Protecting formation. The Stationary formation, Is EXCELLENT against rushing
cavalry, as they will get spiked in the stationary spears, but however, this
formation is best used in narrow paths, as cavalry will try to avoid spearmen
in this formation, and will go the other way round. As for The Protecting
formation, spearmen will get together and will take less damage from archers
(I'm not sure if they take less damage from other units).
They can cross shallow waters, BUT however, they cannot hide in forests. Bushes
are fine though.
Equities
Description:
Equities are the melee cavalry.
They are good against archers and basic infantry. This unit is used just for
melee, and it is great to flank your enemies due to the Equities great speed.
However be aware of spearmen.
Equities cannot hide in forests nor in bushes, but can cross shallow waters.
Archer Cavalry
Description:
As the name says, these are archers on horses :P.
Basically, they have the same speed as Equities, but are just like archers -
not good in melee. Also be aware of spearmen.
Like the equities, they cannot hide in forests nor bushes
but can cross shallow waters.
--------------------------------Special Units----------------------------------
Gladiators
Description:
Ah! The Gladiators of Rome!
These are one of the special units.
These are disorganized, and can use the dragnet to immobilize an enemy unit, and
then stab them to death :P They are strong as all the other special units.
They can hide in forests and in bushes, and can cross shallow waters.
Balearic Slingers
Description:
These are Slingers as the name says.
They are also disorganized and they throw rocks and do more damage than
archers. They do not have any special formation... they just... throw rocks :P
They can hide in forests and in bushes, and can cross shallow waters.
Praetorians
Description:
Ahhh! The unit with the same name as the game!
This looks promising! These units are also disorganized and are VERY STRONG
AND RESISTANT. They are the perfect melee unit.
They can hide in forests and bushes and can cross shallow waters.
Physician
Description: The healer! Finally.
This unit basically just heals your units and Cures Diseases.
They cannot fight.
They can hide in forests and in bushes, and can cross shallow waters.
--------------------------------Special Units---------------------------------
----------------------------------
3. Barbarian units

These do the same thing a the Auxiliary Infantry, but instead of throwing
pilums, they throw axes.
They can hide in forests and bushes, and can cross shallow waters.
Warriors
Description:
These are strong infantry units, like Legionnaires.
They do not have any special formation, but they throw stones.
They can hide in forests and bushes, but cannot cross shallow waters.

As for special formations, they have The Stationary formation,
which increases range.
They can hide in forests or bushes, and can cross shallow waters.
Pikemen
Description:
These are spearmen.
They have two special formations: The Stationary and The Protecting formations.
The Stationary formation is excellent against cavalry. Take care, because the
CPU will go around your spearmen if you happen to be in this formation. The
protecting formation makes you take less damage from arrows and alike.
They cannot hide in forests, but can hide in bushes and cross shallow waters.
Noblemen
Description:
Barbarian Cavalry.
The same thing as Equities.
They cannot hide in bushes nor in forests, but can cross shallow waters.

The same as Archer Cavalry.
They cannot hide in forests nor in bushes, but can cross shallow waters.
--------------------------------Special Units----------------------------------

the enemy impaling them with their spears.

These don't have any formation, but they have almost (if not the same) range as
normal archers in stationary formation.
However, they have a handy special ability: POISON! They shoot poison arrows
and your opponents will start to lose health for a short period of time.
They can hide in forests or bushes, and can cross shallow waters.
Parthian Cavalry
