Introduction

Welcome to Police Quest. An adventure game entirely based on working as a
police officer. I trust that this game follows (American) police procedures
well, since it was designed by a retired policeman, named Jim Walls.
Things work a bit differently in this game, as you from what you are used
to see. The game is pretty much mission based and also based on police
procedures. You can figure out what you got to do by checking the
documentation that you should have received when you have a legal copy of
the game, where some official police procedures are explained, however lots
of puzzles can be solved by using common sense or your adventure gamer's
instincts.
What is very important to note as that Police Quest is one of the most
horrible games when it comes to the ways to die or ways to render the game
impossible to finish. There are also some very fatal mistakes that will
count as death (for example if you miss a briefing because you took too
much time to do your stuff, it will count as death). So because of that you
got to save a lot. If you play this game through ScummVM, I recommend you
to USE the fact that ScummVM supports unlimited amounts of different
savegame.
One very sick joke from the developers is the "give" command. Whenever you
type "give" when you don't need to give something the game will respond
with "Hey! Thanks a lot. But now you NEVER get it back!" in 99% of the
cases, this will render the game impossible to beat, some items (like your
gun) this even counts as "death".
Well, there is a VGA version of this FAQ. It's been too long since I played
that version last, so I cannot guarantee this FAQ will work for that
version. This FAQ was solely based on the original version of the game.

Before you get into your car for this mission
   = OPEN BRIEFCASE
   = GET ALL
Now this is the first of the three "pursuit" missions. Basically goes that
as soon as the car you need to follow is on the screen you need to turn on
your siren (F10) and a "pursuit" song will sound. Now keep following this
car until it stops and then you press F4 to get into the screen where the
stuff will happen.
In this case you will see a car go through red light, the game will even
notify you about that. Follow this car until it stops and then press F4

   = Leave your car (and don't forget to close the door) and walk to the
     other car
   = LOOK GIRL
   = TALK GIRL
   = After the girl asks your name: SONNY
   = YOUR LICENSE

   = Go back to your car and hit the streets again (she will try to insult
     you as you leave).

Now drive around until you are summoned to the caffiene castle. Head over

     return you (automatically) warn her about the anti-prostitution
     operation called "Trick-Trap". All this stuff will become important
     later. Most important to remember is that she mentions "Hoffman" and
     "The Death Angel". Another (important) detail she mentions is
     Hoffman's flower tattoo above his left nipple).
   = BYE
   = Leave this place. You will see this girl back later in the game, not
     to mention, you will see some things soon about the stuff she
     revealed to you.

Another pursuit mission.
Drive around until you see a drunk driver. Follow him with your siren on
until he stops and press F4.

   = Walk to the other car

   = GET OUT (now step aside to allow the man to get out of his car)
   = ASK LICENSE
   = PERFORM TEST
   = CUFF MAN
   = CUFF MAN IN BACK (if you don't type in back, Art will kill you)
   = FOLLOW ME
   = Now walk to the back door of your car and Art will follow you
   = SAY HIS RIGHTS
   = OPEN DOOR (the back door. If you now step aside Art will enter the
     car).
   = CLOSE DOOR
   = Now get into the car yourself and go to jail (Map D3)
    Now Art might protest about his car, ignore that.

   = Get out of your car
   = Open the back door and allow Art to get out. (Type GET OUT if he
     doesn't). He'll automatically go to the entrance door of the prison
   = Go to the lockers next to the door
   = OPEN LOCKER
   = DROP GUN

   = Go to the "bell" button and PRESS BUTTON
   = Enter the prison

     cannot answer her, she'll just leave after she finished her story to

The Blue Caddilac

This is the final, and yet the hardest pursuit mission of the game.
Before you begin, make sure your gun is loaded (LOAD GUN)
Now drive around until you see your guy (you'll be contacted through the
radio when that is the case). Follow the Blue Cadilac until it stops (and
if you are unlucky that can take quite some time before he gives up).

    DON'T leave your car. If you do the suspect will kill you. Yes this
   guy is really dangerous
   = CALL
   = LOOK PLATE
   = Wait until an extra police car pops up and your collegue is aiming a
     gun to the suspect
   = OPEN DOOR
   = Press F4 to stand up, but DON'T move or the suspect will kill you.
     Stay behind your door for cover
   = AIM GUN
   = GET OUT
   = The suspect will come to you. When he reaches the back of his car:
     HANDS UP (best to type this while he's walking and press enter at the
     right spot. I hope you can type fast).
   = LIE DOWN
   = PUT GUN AWAY
   = Go to the suspect
   = CUFF MAN
   = SEARCH MAN (if you forget this, you'll die later!!!)
   = STAND UP
   = SAY HIS RIGHTS
   = FOLLOW ME
   = Go to your back door and OPEN DOOR
   = Allow your suspect to enter the car and close the door

Hotel Delphoria

This is the game's final mission, and also the largest mission.
Once you begin this operation you cannot leave the hotel any more, but you
don't need to, and you got all the items you need. (A few more item will be
attained later in this very hotel).
*:> Entrance
   = Enter the hotel

*:> Reception Desk
   = Go to the desk
   = RING BELL
   = CHECK IN
   = PAY MAN (don't ever type GIVE MONEY as you will lose your marked
     bills and that renders the game infinishable).
   = Exit West

*:> Bar
   = Go to the bar
   = When the bartender asks what it will be just type the name of any
     drink you can come up with. Beer, whiskey,  wine, it all will do I
     suppose.
    Sweet Cheeks will perform her role as Morgan instructed her to. Sit
   out the scenario that follows. When the bartender asks for money:
   = PAY
    You will see now some men (read: suspects) pass by. Just let them be
   for now. Just sit out the scenario, until Sweet Cheeks has introduced
   you to the bartender as Jimmy Lee Banksten aka Whitey. She will walk
   away so you can tell another bunch of lies to the bartender (happens
   all automatically). Eventually you get control over the game after
   Sweet Cheeks returns.
   = Wait until the bartender is back at his position at the bar
   = STAND
   = Go to the bar
   = GAMBLING
   = Exit East
*:> Reception Desk
   = Step in the elevator
   = TWO

*:> Second floor
   = Exit east
*:> = Go to door 204
   = UNLOCK DOOR
   = Enter the room

*:> Your room
   = USE PHONE
   = 555-6674 (you'll get contact with Morgan)
   = WHITEY
    Morgan will request to send Sweet Cheeks to him (you won't need her
   anymore for this mission and things might get too dangerous for her).
   He'll also tell you your backup will be arriving later. (Don't wait for
   them yet) ;)
   = USE PHONE
   = 555-9222
   = HOTEL DELPHORIA
    After this call Sweet Cheeks will leave the room
   = Exit the room

*:> Second floor
   = Exit West
*:> = Enter the elevator
   = ONE

*:> Reception Desk
   = Exit West

*:> Bar
   = Go to the bartender
   = GAMBLING
   = Exit West

*:> Back Room
   = Go to the bartender and allow him to search you
   = You'll automatically go to the next room

*:> Gambler's room
   = Go to the empty chair right of the North-West table
   = SIT
   = Now you get to play Poker
    I hope you know the rules of poker, as I won't explain them fully in
   this FAQ.
    The game played if 5-draw poker. Now I advise you to save every time
   you win and to load a game every time you lose.
    You need to play until you have $1000. Frank will then offer you a
   more private game later.
   = Leave the gaming room, and go back to your hotel suite.

*:> Your Suite
   = In a short while your backup should arrive
   = Go to the black haired cop with the grey t-shirt
   = GIVE ME TRANSMITTER
   = Leave the room and go back to the bar.

    I need to note that I discovered a bug here. If you leave the room and
   go back to your suite, you will see you collegue cops still there, but
   when you try to type commands refering to them the game ignores them.
   Due to that you cannot finish the game any more if you didn't got the
   transmitter pen straight away.
*:> Bar
   = Go to the bartender
   = GAMBLING
   = Exit West

The bartender will (after you allowed him to search you again), bring you
to the private room for another round of poker.
*:> Private gambling room
   = Go to the empty chair
   = SIT
   = Play poker until you got $1300 and "Frank" will offer you a job
   = YES
    "Frank" will ask you if you want to join him in his suite
   = YES
   = Exit East when Frank does

*:> Staircase
   = Go all the stairs up until you reach the top floor.
   = Optional: You may want to CALL to your back up, though it won't do
     much good yet.
   = At the fourth floor, exit East

*:> Fourth Floor
   = Exit east
*:> = When Bains hit this door room: CALL (If you forget to do this now,
     you'll die, so do this before entering the suite).
   = Enter the suite

Now you are in the room with Bains. He'll discover who you really are
(bummer) and kill you, UNLESS you called your back up before entering the
suite then they'll come to your aid and that will lead to the arrest of
Bains.
That will mean the game is over and that you've won.

               mostly will result into your death (or at least the game

DIE:> Firing your gun on an inappropriate time (which is as far as PQ1 is
     concerned always) will count as death

DIE:> Driving through red light without having your siren on counts as
     death
DIE:> When you get off the road or when you touch another car, you will
     never survive it.
DIE:> When you neglect to close the door when you park your car somewhere

DIE:> When you lose your gun by improper use of the 'GIVE' command, it will

DIE:> When you go away from the crashed car without dealing stuff there

DIE:> Possibly Helen Hots may invite you to have sex with her, and give you

     you and that "Helen" was also the name of the wife of one of your
     commanding officers and that it was her number she gave you and not
     her own, which will lead you to get fired and that counts as death.
DIE:> If you upset the bikers and you are not in time to hit them with your
     nightstick, they'll kill you
DIE:> If you walk in front of the darting bikers at Wino Willy's, they'll
     just keep on throwing killing you in the process.
DIE:> If you give in to Art's request to cuff him in the front he'll kill

DIE:> Always drop your gun in the locker before entering the prison. If you
     don't you will most likely be killed by the arrested suspect. If you
     are not killed then you will lose two points in stead!
DIE:> If you leave your car too early or if you make any other mistake in
     the Blue Caddilac mission, its driver will kill you
DIE:> If you don't search Hoffman before you bring him to jail, he'll kill
     you as soon as you uncuff him.
DIE:> If you show yourself too early in the Lyton Park drugs deal, the
     suspects will either flee or kill you. Eitherway you lost the game
DIE:> If you did not tell Laura to arrest any man leaving the park before
     you show yourself to the drugs dealers in the park, one of them will
     succesfully flee which counts as death.
DIE:> If you didn't call Laura for radio silence while spying on the drugs
     dealers in the park, she might call you and betray your position,
     meaning your mission is messed up.
DIE:> Sweet Cheeks Marie will eventually end up in jail. When you leave
     jail without asking Sweet Cheeks to help you the game will scold you
     for leaving your friend in her time of need and that counts as death.
DIE:> If you take a swim in the river at Cotton Cove, the water will drag
     you away into your death
DIE:> <unconfirmed> A friend of mine claims he had a 'Game Over' on failing
     to bleach his hair properly for the Hotel Delphoria mission, however
     I could never confirm this
DIE:> Losing your trick cane due to improper usage of the GIVE command
