INTRODUCTION
\-------------------------------------------------------------------------/
{030}
Chances are, if you are reading this, it is because you either love the old
west and need help, or your bored at school and your playing the game and
you need help. Oregon Trail II is the sequal to the classic western wagon
simulator "Oregon Trail." The thing about this game is that many of the
situations in this game actually happened in real life back in the late
1800's.
/-------------------------------------------------------------------------\
BEGINNING THE GAME
\-------------------------------------------------------------------------/
{040}
When you first start up, you will be asked if you want to
start on a new quest, a premade quest, or start from a saved quest.
Starting a new one will bring up a screen with info you need.
to fill out.
New Game:
-Jobs will give you special skills and a certain amount of money to
start off with. Not all jobs have special effects, but many do. For
example, doctors will make injured and sick people better while
blacksmiths will make fixing broken wagon parts easier.
-Characters names and ages realy do not matter, but how many you
do have do. The more characters you have at the end depending
on there health will give you more points.
-Later years will open up new paths and make some obsolite, but give
you less then if you went in a later year where you needed to go
the hard way most of the time.
-You can choose to be a greenhorn, which will mean you do nothing but
travel the trail. Choosing trail guide will make the wagon train you
went with choose you as a guide on the trail and pay you. A adventurer
has the option of becomeing a guide for the trail.
-Depending on how many people you have, you must choose a good, big
wagon for the game. You can buy other wagons later in the game.
Premade quest:
-You jump right into the game with a premade job, career, family, and
wagon. Good for people who dont want to fool around with makeing a
new file every time.
Saved Quest:
-If you saved in a premade or new quest, you can continue from here.
/-------------------------------------------------------------------------\
ANIMALS
\-------------------------------------------------------------------------/
{050}
-The most common animal to use to pull your wagon is the oxen. Not only are
they cheap and do not realy require anything much, you can keep a large
number of them around.
-Mules are good for pulling out wagons out of the mud, but realy are
very slow, costly, and die easily. Do not buy them unless you need
them for going on the mountains or getting out of the mud.
-Milk cows and chickens are used for both eggs and milk, while pigs
are eventually killed and used for the meat. Milk cows, chickens
and pigs do die easily.
-Horses are the last animals you should get. There only real use is the
rare stanpeeds that are completely random, and on top of that, they
are costly and do not live long.
/-------------------------------------------------------------------------\
MORALE
\-------------------------------------------------------------------------/
{060}
-Morale is used to determine the wagon trains happiness and how
things are going. If you are a greenhorn, do not worry about it.
If you are a adventurer or a trail guide and you took the captain job,
then you must keep your morale up. To do that, rest when you need to,
have high food supplys, etc.
/-------------------------------------------------------------------------\
TEMPATURE, WEATHER, AND YEARLY SEASONS
\-------------------------------------------------------------------------/
{070}
Tempature and Seasons: Just like in real life, tempature determines how
much water you will drink, how tired your party
will get when its hot, and some conditions when it
is cold. In spring, it is mostly balanced with hot
and cold moments. In summer, it will usually be hot
and either cause heat exaustion, or drougt. In the
fall and winter, cold comes where people may get
forstbite and other conditions.
Weather: Different weather conditions will warrent different effects.
Thunderstorm: Has a 10% chance that it may strike a lifestalk animal and
kill it.
Duststorm: May make quicksand appear and make animals stuck.
Heavy Dust from other Wagons: nothing.
Hail: Nothing.
Firestorm: May cause burns.
/-------------------------------------------------------------------------\
FOOD AND HUNTING
\-------------------------------------------------------------------------/
{080}
Just like in real life, we need food to survive. We need a balance in our
diet to stay healthy and not to get sick. It is the same in this game.
There are several types of catagories with food that will determine if
a person will get sick of a disease or not.
Groups:
Meat: Pork, cured meat, fish, any preserved meats, animals, and others
Fruits: Most fruits, preserved fruits, wild fruits
Vegtables: Most vegtables, cured vegtables, preserved vegtables
Other: Anything else.
Finding food in the wild:
Hunting: One of the biggest parts of the game, hunting is where you
take your gun and shoot at animals in first person mode.
Some of the conditions you have with hunting is that you
have limited ammo, may be mauled by a bear, may make the
animals in that area not come out the next time you are
hunting, and about a 300-600 Lbs meat limit. Heres most
of the animals.
Low Meat:
Sqirrel
Duck
Rabbit
High Meat:
Elk
Deer
Bear
Wild Fruits and Vegtables: A random act, mostly in spring and summer.
It is actually quite rare that this
happends, but it does happen. You can choose
to stop and get a bunch of it, pick some as
you go along and get some, or void it together
and continue.
Fishing: For this to happen, you need either a fishing net, pole, or spear.
You can catch fish while your waiting to cross a river, resting
near water, tip your wagon, going across water, and other methods.
/-------------------------------------------------------------------------\
MOUNTAINS AND RIVERS
\-------------------------------------------------------------------------/
{090}
Mountains: One of the most annoying natural occurances in the game. Not
only do you need to go up a mountain and risk falling down,
but you also run the risk of the same thing going down. Tipping
your wagon when going up and down is random and it does happen
quite often, but it dosnt happen as much going down. Muddy
mountains realy arn't as bad as icy mountains.
Rivers: A classic to the oregon trail series. You must cross many rivers
to get across. You do have several options to do this, though.
Fording the river: Basicly, this is going across with your oxen and not
protecting yourself. Do this only when the river is
low.
Calk the Wagon and float across: This is where you will use the wagon as
a boat and go across. The most usefull
method of getting across.
Ferry: A safe way of getting across for a price. Use this at high risk
rivers.
Toll Bridges: These usually appear in the future. Same as the ferry.
Rafting: This only comes into play in the end. You need to steer your
wagon away from whirlpools, rocks, and other natural elements
in the water. This is the most dangerous thing in the game
and can kill people randomly.
/-------------------------------------------------------------------------\
SICKNESS
\-------------------------------------------------------------------------/
{100}
Injuries: A common occurance on the trail. You can be injured pretty much
randomly and on purpose. Some of the common injuries are sprain
ankles, head troma, internal injury, burns, bear maulings, etc.
Natural Disease: Something caused by location, weather, and time of year.
There is very little you can do to prevent these besides
not resting long in a certain hazard area. Common diseases
are flu, cold, gangreen, frostbite, and a few others. If
you get freezing, chances are, your character will die
soon.
/-------------------------------------------------------------------------\
FORTS AND TOWNS
\-------------------------------------------------------------------------/
{110}
A checkpoint in the journy. Forts and towns are about the same thing. Most
of them have a stable, general store, medic, blacksmith, and a few other
places. There are also mini forts which sell some items, but usually are
not enough. The prices of the items will increase as you go.
/-------------------------------------------------------------------------\
DEATH AND ENDING THE GAME
\-------------------------------------------------------------------------/
{120}
Death: One thing everyone knows about is death. Back in the first oregon
trail, all your family had to die before you could die in the
game. In this game, it is different. You realy cannot die of
anything natural until everyone else is dead, but a few random
accedents can happen. When you die, its game over.
Mutiny: This is when your a captain and your wagon train desides to fire
you. You will usually get a message when there about to throw your
ass out.
/-------------------------------------------------------------------------\
SCOREING
\-------------------------------------------------------------------------/
{130}
The score realy dosnt do much besides show you are important. The score is
based on how much money you have left, how many people are living and there
helth, where you settles, your job, and a few other areas.
