First of all you should decide what you are playing for. Do you just want to
solo and not make a friend in game or is community what you are searching for
For solo and PK one of the best build, beside the full agility human which has
been done to death is the full agility borg. Yes, full agility borg. The
reason why a full agility borg would own at high levels more than a full
agility human is because unlike humans, borgs have normal agility growth.
So at similar levels without any equipment or similar equipment a borg would
be faster than a human. The half bad news is that repel doesn’t work against
chaos, if it did, human wouldn’t stand a single chance. But there is drain.
And drain is enough. At high levels, drain III can take 70% or more of your
enemy’s mana and health pool. If the human has a high level chaos chances are
he won’t have enough mana to cast it after you drain him/her and would lose a
turn, unless he/she is smart or quick enough to switch to another skill. Full
agility borgs are also useful in GW but I doubt their efficiency in other areas.
The other borg build is full strength or some strength and a good critical
weapon and imbued items with diamonds that can take down a stamina pet in one
hit. The only other character with good to excellent PK potential is the human.
Full agility is what you want to get if all you ever want to do is GW and PK.
But for normal playing they’re not so recommended. That because normal quests
require a party. And a full agility borg or human will be the first to get hit
by tough mobs because monsters in GW attack whomever or whatever has the
highest speed. So a very fast human or borgs has a very high chance of missing
a turn and thus being redundant to the party.
OK, so you want to pick a normal character and play through most of the game
without trying to kill all your enemies or just logging in at GW to ensure
your party wins. Here is my recommended choice of builds:
Human, the phunk-you-up class. Male humans are not as effective as female
humans because they lack a damage skill, frailty’s only decent use being in
duels, as most of the monsters in the game have large amounts of MP, making
frailty almost redundant to use. My recommended build is 2 stamina and 2
agility. This is very balanced, you have good chances to live out most of your
battles, being fast enough to cast first in the party, and strong enough to
resist attacks. If you want a faster human another good build is 1 stamina and
3 agility. You are faster than most mobs, but are somewhat fragile, though not
as much as a full agility human is. With a good party you will manage to stay
alive and be useful in most situations, but solo is almost out of the question.
For a female human adding intelligence points to increase damage in poison is
useless. Its damage is level and skill based. That means the higher your level
and the more skill exp points you have, the more damage it will do. Also the
round damage is fixed at about 5% of max HP, not current HP and is capped at
110k, if I am wrong please send me a mail at lloque.at.gmail.com with a
screenshot. I will correct myself and you will receive credit. Although
intelligence does not add damage, you may want to add some if you’re a female
human, just to increase your mana pool and allow more casts before potting.
Mage, the damage dealing class. This seems the most tedious class to play,
because leveling skills is a pain. Also 3 skills with about the same use, i.e.
to deal as much damage is IMHO redundant. Death is a neat skill, and can work
charms in GW if you’re in a bad spot, but this also doesn’t work on tougher
mobs or it takes so long to get it to stick that you might be better of trying
to kill with normal damage spells. There is hardly a difference between male
and female, the different skill is fire for males and ice for females. Not much
to explain there. The best build that is preferred by good mages is full
intelligence, this will insure you can deal loads of damage, but you are on the
thin side. You will need a fat pet to keep you alive. The only other build I’d
partially recommend is 3 intelligence and 1 stamina. You will have more health,
but deal less damage. I don’t see the point of an agility mage, as more speed
makes you more attractive to mobs and thus more likely to die before you can
cast. Also more agility means less points to put in intelligence or stamina, so
from where I’m standing it seems like a waste.
Centaur, the healing class. The most recommended build for a cent is full
stamina. Your party will love you, but being a full stamina cent seems like a
boring way to play MW. You are almost put in a corner and punished to use one
skill, like that’s the only one you have. Also at higher levels, where you the
mobs use drain and frailty you will be scrambling to pot with your pet just to
have enough mana to cast a heal. This is one of the reasons why being a full
stamina cent is counter-intuitive. The other reason is that intelligence adds
to multi/blizz damage.
And as your damage skill can hit more targets than any other in the game, 7 at
level 11 for multi/blizz IV, not being able to attack with a cent is wasting
one of the better skills in the game. But I don’t recommend you use this your
first time through the game. My suggested build is 2 stamina and 2 intelligence.
You will have enough HP to stay alive and heal, and you will have enough MP to
cast repeatedly and potentially deal more damage than a full stamina cent. Also
I believe that male centaurs are more useful in general than females because of
the purge chaos skill. Stun is very rarely used by monsters in the game while
chaos is not. Plus the increased chaos resistance doesn’t hurt either.
Borg, the draining class. Borgs are great and a must in most parties, as high
level mobs have a lot of HP, and drain just works like a charm. The best thing
about it is that is depletes MP as well, the percentage dealt is about the same
as heal, with a minimum value, roughly 2k at drain IV. The other skills that
borgs have are useful as well. Reflect and repel work about the same way, the
first for physical attacks and the latter for magic. Enhance is only good if you
plan on building a strength borg, which is not my main recommendation, so as far
as gender goes, I’d pick female, because protect has the potential to keep you
alive in the harshest of times. For general use for a female borg I suggest
using 3 stamina 1 agility till level 50 then switching to 3 stamina and 1
intelligence. The reason behind the agility is that you generally want drain
to hit before a mage casts to get best results. For a male borg 2 stamina and 2
strength is a good build that works well in PK and in general gameplay as well.
Skills and what do they do.
Your first set skills are given to you at level 1. The second set you have
to earn by a solo fight at level 15 in the skill center. And the third and
most powerful set are received after you defeat drowcrusher at level 50.
OK, here’s a quick explanation of what they do:
Human skills
Chaos – this will make you attack random targets, you will not be able to
use skills, pot or escape. If another human lands this first in a duel you
are generally screwed.
Hypnotize – this will put you to sleep, not so dangerous at first sight, but
if timed well, it can work in those situations where chaos wouldn’t, i.e. a
strength borg or against high chaos resistance. You will recover if you are
attacked, unlike chaos. You can also pot while you’re hypnotized.
Stun – you cannot attack but also cannot be attacked. This is mostly used
against
tough parties to single out battles or if you want to stunlock someone that
managed to piss you of.
Poison (female only) – this will take a part of the max HP each round,
starting at around 5%, plus the initial damage.
Frailty (male only) – same as poison, only it targets MP. Very limited
applicability
PK and GW are the only ones I can think of and even there, there are better
things
to use before this.
Mage skills
Evil – deals damage. Not much more to say.
Flash – same as above, although be warned that drow is resistant to flash, so
be wary in training flash.
Death – when cast it will kill the target in a given number of rounds, the
higher the skill the fewer the rounds. This also doesn’t work on tougher mobs,
so its use is also limited.
Fire (male only) – another damage skill, this is the male trademark and the
most used.
Ice (female only) – same as above, just for female characters.
Centaur skills
Heal – the names gives it away, the trademark skill and the general purpose of
a cent. If you don’t heal, do us all a favor and pick another class. Healing
is procentual, with minimum value.
Purge Chaos (male only) – this is the only way to remove chaos before it wears
of without dying. Quite the useful skill.
Unstun (female only) – this the only way to remove stun before it wears of
without dying. Not so useful as the male equivalent skill, so far Legeoma has
been the only battle I’ve seen stun being used, and that was because I was
stupid enough to do it without a human. Needless to say I didn’t make it. The
only potential use for Unstun is in GW, it could save your party there and win
the battle for you.
Speed – this will increase the skill casting of the target. Mostly neglected
it’s not without its uses.
Multishot (male only) – the most used skill after heal for a regular cent.
It deals damage, the downside is that it’s physical and most mobs have good
physical resistance, like most characters.
Blizzard (female only) – same as above, the only thing that differs is the
animation.
Borg skills
Drain – the best skill in the game, IMHO. The percentage around it is about
the same as healing for similar levels with the same minimum value as heal.
But with the added bonus that heal doesn’t restore MP.
Repel – this comes in handy when you know that some powerful spells are going
to be used against you. As most casters have poor HP, why not use this against
them? Chaos is the only skill that isn’t affected by repel, also if someone has
a screenshot that proves me wrong please send it to me: lloque.at.gmail.com
Reflect – same as repel only this time the damage reflected is physical. Not as
useful as repel but not worthless either. This can be used to take down strength
pets, that generally have low HP. If one pulls a critical on you or a combo, it
may mean instant death for him.
Enhance (male only) – this increases your physical damage, your combo rate and
pierce rate and damage. Not generally useful unless you’re a strength borg, also
a pet can cast this just as well, unless your is really high level and will make
more of a difference.Protect (female only) – this provides increased resistance
to all types of damage, more general useful than enhance is.
That should be enough info on getting started and picking out a race that suits
your gameplay style. Hope you have fun and I’ll write more guides if I have the
time.
