===============================================================================
0.00 - 22nd May 2006: (00.00kb)
Started basic guide template, ideas, planning, contemplating, thinking,
building, inventing, predicting, sleeping, mesmerizing, meditating etc.
0.80 - 01st June 2006: (24.20kb)
Nearly everything planned on doing is complete. WONLobby File Explanations in
section 6 needs finishing. Submitted to GameFAQs.com.
1.00 - 13th October 2008: (40.20kb)
Weren't expecting an update so late, were you? Well, I dislike unfinished
guides so just wanted to get this over and done with. Everything I planned on
doing is done.
New content: Improved/finished stuff:
- E. Fixing Room Name too Long Bug - The WONLObby File Explanations
- G. Faster game load times - B. Locating Anonymous Users
- WONLobby.cfg Explanation in - The entire guide, all optimized,
section 6. spell-checked and polished up.
- Color codes in section 6.
- Search codes.
Stuff I considered adding but didn't:
- Explanation of all files in main Empire Earth folder. Didn't do this because
it's not completely lobby related.
- Explanations for files in Help, Icons, Images, Skin, and Sounds. Didn't do
this because they are relatively straight forward to edit, unlike the
configuration files.

This guide has been made to show people how to improve their lobby in
numerous ways to ensure their experience online is as good as it can be. You
spend a lot of time in the lobby as finding a game that suits you may take a
very long time.
This guide will show you how to edit basic lobby functions such as the
chat limit, evading nuisance warnings, locating malicious users, customizing
the lobby skin, sounds, buttons and so on. Some believe that the lobby has some
bugs, this will try and eliminate them, I believe was not thoroughly tested.
As you are editing minor client side files, you won't be affecting any other
users in anyway at all.
This guide also gives you the directories to the expansion pack too.
Ensure you check section 3. READ Before Modding your Lobby.

4. - *READ THIS before Modding your Lobby*
===============================================================================
This guide only demonstrates how to edit the main WON-Lobby files in notepad
and image files, none of which are archived, read-only'd, compressed,
protected, password-protected, hidden or encrypted in anyway. Nor does it
provide any links (URLs) to programs which may assist in editing files.
File Types shown how to Modify: .cfg .tga .txt
This guide does NOT demonstrate how to edit executable files (exe) or direct
link libraries (dll) or any other files. These are program files which you are
NOT permitted to be modified as written in the agreement upon installation of
the game.

(5.OP)
5. - *Lobby Optimizations?*
===============================================================================
Before doing any of these, please make backup copy of your WONLobby Resources
folder.
C:\Sierra\Empire Earth\Data\WONLobby Resources
C:\Sierra\Empire Earth - The Art of Conquest\Data\WONLobby Resources
If you are seriously worried about the stability of your game, make a copy of
your entire Sierra folder or hard disk.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A. Chat Message Extender (A.CM)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Increases your character limit in the lobby from 256 to 495.
Why? Well you actually have less than 256, because commands and any users you
whisper fills up the chat box too. So pasting news articles, clan related news,
jokes, strategy's, tips, hints, ASCII art and other things can be very limited.
i) Open up your WONLobby Resources folder.
C:\Sierra\Empire Earth\Data\WONLobby Resources
C:\Sierra\Empire Earth - The Art of Conquest\Data\WONLobby Resources
ii) Find the file called ChatCtrl.cfg, and open it with Notepad.
iii) In the file, find the part which looks like this:
InputBox ChatInput
{
MaxInputHistory: 100
MaxChars: 256
RequestFocus: true
}
iv) Once you have found that part, delete the 256, and replace it with 495.
Making it higher won't make any difference and may cause your lobby to be
unstable and glitchy. But feel free to experiment.
v) Once you have typed it in, that part of the file should now look like
this:
InputBox ChatInput
{
MaxInputHistory: 100
MaxChars: 495
RequestFocus: true
}
vi) When you've done that, click File > Save or press Ctrl + S.
Restart game.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
B. Locating Anonymous Users (B.LA)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Enables you to locate users in Anonymous Mode.
Why? Many malicious users and people that don't like being followed are often
in this mode. Doing this simply allows you to find out which room and game
they're located in. Some users even click the anonymous box not knowing what it
does.
i) Open up your WONLobby Resources folder.
C:\Sierra\Empire Earth\Data\WONLobby Resources
C:\Sierra\Empire Earth - The Art of Conquest\Data\WONLobby Resources
ii) Find the file called _LobbyResource.cfg, and open it with Notepad.
(DON'T OPEN _LobbyResourceOrig.cfg by mistake!)
iii) In the file, find the line which looks like this:
CodeString: ClientIsAnonymous "<l1> <c9>is currently in anonymous mode."
When you've found it, you must edit the part in "quotes".
"<l1> <c9>is currently in anonymous mode."
Replace with:
"<l1> <c9>is currently in anonymous mode. <c5>| Room: <l3> | Game: <l2> |"
Copy and paste it if you want.
vi) When you've done that, click File > Save. Or press Ctrl + S.
Restart game.
To check if it's worked, go into anonymous mode and add yourself to
friends. Then go to friends list and double click your name. Your details
should show be displayed differently if you have done it correctly.
If the user is not in a room or game, it will simply show a blank space
where the name would normally go.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
C. Changing Lobby Background Image (C.BK)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This shows you how to change the boring background of your lobby which you have
to stare at every hour while your in the lobby, yawn!
i) Find an image that is the same resolution as your monitor.
Your resolution is most likely to be 1024x768, but some people have
800x600 resolution and 1280x1024 resolution.
You should choose a darkish image, maybe space themed, or underwater
themed. If you have anything bright it may make reading text in your
lobby more difficult.
Preferably search the web for an image you want.
ii) When you've found your wallpaper, save it somewhere where you'll remember
it.
iii) Navigate to folder:
C:\Sierra\Empire Earth\Data\WONLobby Resources\Images
C:\Sierra\Empire Earth - The Art of Conquest\Data\WONLobby Resources\Images
For Empire Earth:
Rename 'bkg_german.jpg' to something else like, 'OLDbkg_german.jpg'.
For Empire Earth: The Art of Conquest:
Rename 'bkg_fleet.jpg' to something else like 'OLDbkg_fleet.jpg'.
iv) Move your saved Wallpaper that you downloaded from the web into the
folder where you just renamed that file.
v) When your wallpaper is in the folder, rename it to:
bkg_german.jpg (if your modding Empire Earth)
bkg_fleet.jpg (if your modding Empire Earth: The Art of Conquest)
Restart game.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
D. Fixing Game Name too Long Bug (D.FG)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ah, so what's this bug? It's difficult to explain, if you don't ever host
games then this fix is probably a bit pointless for you. When you choose a name
for your game while hosting, if it's too long you get an error saying blah blah
game name too long, why didn't they just limit the box to the length you're
allowed? I don't know.. but this is what this fix does, prevents that message
from showing by reducing the maximum amount of characters you can input in the
game name box.
i) Open up your WONLobby Resources folder.
C:\Sierra\Empire Earth\Data\WONLobby Resources
C:\Sierra\Empire Earth - The Art of Conquest\Data\WONLobby Resources
ii) Find the file called CreateGameDialog.cfg, and open it with Notepad.
iii) In the file, find the part which looks like this:
WONInputBox GameNameInput
{
MaxChars: 80
RequestFocus: true
MapComponent: parent.parent
}
It's at the top of the file. Change MaxChars: 80 to MaxChars: 40.
So it should now look like this:
WONInputBox GameNameInput
{
MaxChars: 40
RequestFocus: true
MapComponent: parent.parent
}
vi) When you've done that, click File > Save. Or press Ctrl + S.
Restart game.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E. Fixing Room Name too Long Bug (E.FR)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the same as the Game name too long fix, but applies to the room name
instead. So you don't get the room name is too long error message.
i) Open up your WONLobby Resources folder.
C:\Sierra\Empire Earth\Data\WONLobby Resources
C:\Sierra\Empire Earth - The Art of Conquest\Data\WONLobby Resources
ii) Find the file called CreateRoomDialog.cfg, and open it with Notepad.
iii) In the file, find the part which looks like this:
WONInputBox RoomNameInput
{
MaxChars: 80
MapComponent: parent.parent
SizeAtLeast: 120,0
}
It's at the top of the file. Change MaxChars: 80 to MaxChars: 40.
So it should now look like this:
WONInputBox GameNameInput
{
MaxChars: 40
RequestFocus: true
MapComponent: parent.parent
}
vi) When you've done that, click File > Save. Or press Ctrl + S.
Restart game.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
F. Joining pingless (RIP) Games (F.PI)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This allows you to enter games which have no ping, or as you'll probably
know, has a RIP grave stone as the ping instead. Why you ask? Well many people
host games saying they are away, but can't have messages left for them because
nobody can join their game. :-( So doing this will allow you to leave messages
in anyone's AFK game! :-)
i) Open up your Main Empire Earth folder (or EE:AoC folder).
C:\Sierra\Empire Earth
C:\Sierra\Empire Earth - The Art of Conquest
ii) Find the file called WONLobby.cfg, and open it with Notepad.
iii) Go down to the line where it says
AllowJoinGameWithoutPing: false // new
It's near the bottom of list.
Delete false and replace it with true, so it should look like this:
AllowJoinGameWithoutPing: true // new
vi) When you've done that, click File > Save. Or press Ctrl + S.
Restart game.
NOTE: I don't know what the other options do, but feel free to experiment.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
G. Faster game load times (G.FA)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not exactly lobby related, but this trick causes the game to skip the
introduction sequence.
Approximate normal boot time: 20 seconds
Approximate boot time after trick: 13 seconds (for EE1)
This is a lot of time considering how many times you boot up your game, plus
you don't need to press the buttons to skip the intro sequences every time.
i) Open up the movies directory, where the directory where the games movie
files are stored.
C:\Sierra\Empire Earth\Data\Movies
C:\Sierra\Empire Earth - The Art of Conquest\Data\Movies
ii) You should now see a list of movie files such as Empire Earth.bik and
Sierra.bik . Rename them all so Empire Earth.bik is called
AEmpire Earth.bik .
Now when the game loads, it will simply not find them and will carry on
as normal.
Apart from reinstalling the game completely, you should also delete files
you don't need, such as saves games, screenshots, out of sync logs
(OOS YYYY.MM.DD - XXh.XXm.XXs) and consider clearing out your wonuser
files which store information on the usernames you have created. This
will save your hard disk space.

WONLObby File Explanations
--------------------------
This section lists all the main lobby configuration files and a brief
description about what each one does. Helpful if you are looking for a
particular part of the lobby to modify. Many of the names are self explanatory
but some are not as obvious. If you are looking for something in particular,
then use CTRL+F to search for it.
_GameMaster.cfg
This file tells the game which files to run when loading the lobby.
_GameResource.cfg
This file tells the game which font type to use for the lobby, it also tells
the game about where the sounds and images are. There's also some other stuff
too that I'm not sure on.
_LobbyMaster.cfg
This file is a large version of _GameMaster.cfg telling the lobby all the file
names of the dialog control files.
_LobbyResource.cfg
This is a major part of the lobby, the biggest file in the folder. Things like
commands, responses, warning, filenames are kept here. This file is modified
in section B. Locating Anonymous Users.
_LobbyResourceOrig.cfg
This is an older version of _LobbyResource.cfg, it may be deleted as it isn't
actually used.
_LobbySkin.cfg
Quite a large file, similar to ColorScheme.cfg, this file tells the game the
colours of some fonts in the game and some other things.
_WONStatus.cfg
These are all the responses you can get while trying to login, things like
Your CD key is already in use, you are begind a firewall etc (yes they spelt
behind incorrectly!)
AddFriendDialog.cfg
This is the dialog which opens when you click Add Friend button at the bottom
right of the lobby under the Friends tab.
AdminActionDialog.cfg
This is the details on the admin dialog for admins. Unless you have
proper access you'll never be able to see this dialog.
BadUserDialog.cfg
This dialog shows a list of users you've banned from your server or game. It
can be accessed via the command /unban.
ChatCtrl.cfg
This controls chat limit, the layout of the chat box and how the game
deals with text. This file is modified in section A. Double Chat Character
Limit.
ChooseNetworkAdapterDialog.cfg
This is the dialog which is displayed when you click the Choose Network Adapter
button under the options tab.
ColorScheme.cfg
This is what it says it is, the colour scheme of the lobby. You can change the
colour of things like text, chat messages borders, lines, scrollbars and most
of the lobby skin. All colours are in html hex format.
CommonOptions.cfg
This controls the dialog where your IPs and firewall status is shown. It also
contains the connection speed options, show banner option and several other
things.
CreateAccountCtrl.cfg
This contains all the properties of the create a new account section, things
such as maxmimum characters for username/password/email allowed in the box,
also the date of birth formats, create button, and font colors of each box.
CreateGameDialog.cfg
This file contains information regarding the dialog that appears when you click
Host Game button. It is modified in D. Fixing Game Name too Long Bug section.
CreateRoomDialog.cfg
This file contains information regarding the dialog that appears when you click
Create Room button. It is modified in E. Fixing Room Name too Long Bug section.
CreditsDialog.cfg
This file contains all the peoples names who made the lobby, it shows in a
dialog box after pressing the Credits button, I don't where this is or if it
was even added. With a bit of hacking, you could probably get the dialog box to
show somewhere else. Here is the list of people in the file for your
convenience and recognition of their work.
