----------------------------Introduction--------------------------------------
This FAQ is intended to be THE definitive guide to set items and everything
about them. It includes a complete list of all set items in the game along
with all set statistics and all set bonuses. Some sets are only dropped from
particular quests, that information is noted as well. There's a checklist for
set items at the end in case you want to complete a collection of all set
items in the game. If you see any mistakes or corrections or additions, please
let me know.
For the majority of the info in this FAQ, I used a program called Game
Extractor to extract the set_definitions.gas and sets.gas file from the
Logic.ds2res file in the Resources folder. The rest of the info so far is
mostly from the game itself. Some info is from submissions, the credits
section notes the particulars.
In several places I point out typos from the set files. It's quite possible
the majority of them are from extraction hiccups from using the unofficial
Game Extractor program to extract the files. If you can verify any of the
places I mention typos are not present in properly extracted files, let me
know.
If you wish to find a particular set or set item, just do a text search for
the name (CTRL F if you are viewing with notepad, FireFox or IE). The
checklist may help you with what name you might need to search for.
-------------------------------Stat Bonus details-----------------------------
A bonus that adds "+5 to armor" is already taken into account on the items
armor amount. For instance, if the item is showing "Armor 15" in blue and has
the bonus of "+5 to armor" than it has a total of 15 armor because it was 10
base (not shown) plus the +5. The blue indicates that the bonus is taken into
account already when showing the armor value of the item.
A bonus that adds for instance "+3 to melee damage" or "+3 to ranged damage"
will add 3 to both your minimum and maximum damage.
A bonus that adds "Chance to Find Magic Items" increases your chance to find
magic items in drops from baddies and chests, etc. As far as I can tell from
looking at the game files, it's a global value rather than a per character
value. So it appears that if you had one guy in the party with +50% and
another guy with +50% your total chance to find would be increased by 100%. If
anyone finds any more information one way or the other, please let me know.
A bonus that adds "xx% of Physical Damage Reflected to Enemy" I believe will
actually block that much percent of physical damage (physical damage is
generally defined as melee and ranged) from hitting you and inflict it upon
the striking enemy. I'm not totally sure if it actually blocks the reflected
damage or just strikes the attacker like the thorns aura in D2, so if anyone
has any additional information on this, please let me know.
A bonus that adds elemental damage, or maximum damage, or minimum damage, or
damage is already calculated in the weapon damage shown on the weapon itself.
The damage is shown in blue when a bonus like this is already added to the
weapon. Note that it seems the weapon damage is rounded down to nearest
integer (if you use the formula from the wpn_bases.gas file) when doing weapon
damage calculations for showing the damage stat on the weapon. A bonus that
adds +% damage like "+25% damage" seems to be calculated based upon total
weapon damage including elemental and other additions. Again, this damage is
already taken into account when looking at a weapons damage since it's shown
in blue. It only affects the damage of that weapon, it does not apply to your
overall character damage.
A bonus that adds a percentage to armor like "+50% armor" only adds armor to
that specific item in question, it does not apply to your total armor rating.
That armor bonus is already taken into account in the armor stat on the item
and is why the stat is shown in blue.
A bonus on a non weapon set item that requires melee or ranged skill that adds
for example "Adds 5 to 10 Weapon Damage" seems to only add the damage bonus to
ranged and melee weapons. It apparently does not add to mage weapons. Which is
an odd oversight, I mean sure you don't often use that staff, but if you run
out of mana you'd think that if you were wearing an amulet that added damage
it would apply to your mage staff or cestus, I mean after all those are
"weapons" too.
It's the same thing for a melee or ranged required non weapon set item that
adds a bonus minimum or maximum damage, it only adds to melee or ranged
weapons.
-------------------------------Weapon Speed-----------------------------------
I've noticed a lot of back and forth on the boards about what weapon speed
means (especially when discussing effective damage of bows vs. crossbows).
Here's the information that I've dug up from the wpn_bases.gas file. It is
variously referred to as Attack Duration in the description and Reload Delay
in the actual variable name. This should finally allow people to calculate bow
vs. crossbow damage per second (DPS) ratings, or 2 hand vs. 1 hand vs. dual
wield, etc.
1 handed melee weapons that say FAST attack speed have 0.67 seconds between
hits.
2 handed melee weapons that say SLOW attack speed have 0.9 seconds between
hits.
Bows that say FASTER attack speed have 0.625 seconds between hits.
Crossbows that say SLOW attack speed have 0.9 seconds between hits.
Thrown weapons that say NORMAL attack speed have 0.73 seconds between hits.
2 handed mage staff weapons that say SLOW attack speed have 0.9 seconds
between hits.
2 handed mage cestus weapons that say SLOW attack speed apparently have 1.0
seconds between hits.
According to one of the .gas files, a 1 handed mage weapon that says FAST has
an attack speed of 0.67 seconds between hits. However I have not seen any
items that are like this, and I dont even see a template for such a weapon in
the .gas files.
---------------------------------Sets-----------------------------------------
Note that the description to the right of the name of the set is from the gas
file. As well, if it says for instance dual wield set and you are not a dual
wield guy or even a melee character then it is perfectly fine to wear parts of
the set, or even a single piece if you like some bonuses or some items. The
only requirement is that you have the skill listed that is required.
No set except the mysterious set (and even it is not a true bonus, just a
description change) has any bonuses for wearing just 1 piece. For set bonuses
you can wear any parts of the set in any order to get the bonus.
Note: If the set item has the word "Unverified" following it, it means that
all the data shown is from the files and not personally verified by examining
the actual set item in the game. It should still be accurate since I tried to
use the game file formulas to figure out things like damage and armor (all the
rest of the info is easily known) but if you spot a difference let me know. If
it doesn't have the "unverified" word, than I personally verified the data by
examining the object in game, or by checking info from someone else (any time
I did this I mentioned it in credits).

This set is dropped when you complete the "Mask of the Assassin" secondary
quest (Act II). You can start this quest by picking up the stone on a table in
Aman'lu, but you wont be able to complete it until later when you do the Upper
part of "Mines of Kaderak" area. The guy you need to find is in the Kilrathia
Inn in Act III.

This set is dropped as part of the "Lost Jewels of Soranith" secondary quest
(Act III). You can start this quest in the Kalrathia Inn by talking to
"Kevarre the Explorer". The two rings you receive by looting chests as part of
the quest (the silver ring you get solving the first puzzle, the gold ring you
acquire solving the second puzzle). The amulet you receive by returning to the
Inn and talking to the guy who gave you the quest. The set has odd mixed stat
bonuses and not much to speak of for set bonuses for the level required to
wear it, so you probably will want to just split the items up and put them on
appropriate characters.

There are a number of very useful mods that involve sets. So far all of them
I've seen are hosted on this site:

One very useful mod is the set drop mod. If you want to complete your set
collection and one of the items is very far below you in level and you wont
even use the missing set item once you get it, it doesn't make sense to try
and waste a lot of time farming for it. Just use this mod and pick the set you
want, then every kill will drop the entire set. Pick up the missing item,
remove the mod file from your resource folder and you are all set!
Goto that mod page, then click downloads, then go to the item category and
look for "NKD's 23 Sets"
Or how about a mod that increases set/unique/rare drops to drop all the time
from baddies? This is much closer to cheating if you ask me than the above
one, but in the interest of completness I'm mentioning these types of mods as
well. There are multiple versions of this mod, one that drops items only above
your level, one that drops items within 5 levels of your level, etc.
