III. The Mysterious Items
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This section lists the four mysterious items. The three set pieces used as
keys and the mysterious stone which is used as a key to access the secret
area.

-----------------------
A. The Mysterious Stone
-----------------------

This stone is inscribed with a chant needed to access one of Dungeon Siege 2's
greatest secrets. It is inscribed with the words 'surotces suiranmuloc'. These
words are used to decipher the chant needed to access the secret area. However,
the chant is not enough to access the secret area, you must have this stone for
it to work properly.

a. Acquiring the Stone
---------------------

The Mysterious Stone is an item dropped when you slay an enemy named ???. It
is a level 99 creature that will spawn randomly on any act. He will not attack
you, only run around randomly for approximately 10 seconds. During this time
when hit he will drop a rare item. A total of 3 rares is most often dropped
before he vanishes.

When he appears you must be fast and alert as well as having the ability to
deal damage very quickly. If you have any damage powers it is recommended you
use them. Once he dies you will receive the Mysterious Stone and be able to
access the secret area.

------------------------
B. The Mysterious Bucket
------------------------

The Mysterious Bucket is the key to unlock the first of three gates
within the secret area.

a. Bucket Stats

b. Trial of Perception
----------------------

A keen eye is needed to find the Mysterious Bucket. To get to the underground
ruins where this Trial takes place take the teleporter to the Lost Valley of
the Azunites in Act I. Then head east till you find the entrance to 'Some Lost
Elven Ruins', it is an elevator powered by a button on a nearby wall.

In the ruins you will have to search for a hidden button, lamp switch, as well
as other triggers to get through a series of rooms. Eventually you will get to
a long staircase that will lead to an Elven Prison. In the middle of the long
staircase on a even landing is the final secret trigger for this trial. When
used it will open up a secret area and in it is a chest which gives you the
Mysterious Bucket.

C. The Mysterious Book
----------------------

The Mysterious Book is the key to unlock the second of three gates
within the secret area.

b. Trial of Perception
----------------------

This Trial masquerades under a secondary quest named 'The Lore of Aranna'
in Act III. To receive this quest go to Telgrey the Scholar in the north
east corner of Kalrathia. Talk to him and accept the drink he offers you.
He will give you the quest, which is to collect all 20 books in the Lore
of Aranna collection.

The Lore of Aranna books you have can be viewed under the Lore/Books tab
in your journal. All the books in the collection have a Vol. # above
their title. Below are the areas where you can find the books. As this
FAQ evolves I will state their location more precisely.

Upon completing the quest you will not receive a reward. Talk to him a
second time after turning in the quest and you will receive a generous
reward as well as the Mysterious Book.

The books are located in the following areas:

Vol. 1  - Snowbrook Haven Living Quarters
Vol. 2  - Vai'Kesh Sanctuary, a short way from its southern exit.
Vol. 3  - In Aman'lu from Alar'ithil
Vol. 4  - In Aman'lu at Altorn Hall
Vol. 5  - In Aman'lu at Twylis's House
Vol. 6  - Eastern Greilyn Jungle, where you meet Vix

D. The Mysterious Token
-----------------------

The Mysterious Token and the other two pieces are the keys to unlock
the last of the three gates within the secret area.

a. Token Stats

b. Trial of Power
-----------------

This Trial also masquerades as a secondary quest, this time as the
'Aman'lu Arena'. To receive this quest talk to Barkeeper Drudwyn at the Inn
in Aman'lu. Deny all the fanciful stories he puts upon you and he will give
you a password to give to his assistant Tristeth. Go into the room behind the
bar and use the elevator. Go to the end of the room and talk to Tristeth. Now
go down the stairs that have opened up till you enter the Arena.

Talk to Daesthai and tell him when you are ready to try your skill at the
arena. Purchase an arena token and then go into the center of the Arena. Cast
your pets and any spells you want upon yourself and then click on the pedestal.
The arena will move down and monsters will spawn. Defeat them and you can then
purchase a token for a higher level of the arena. You can not repeat levels you
have completed. There are 10 total ranks for the arena, the first rank has
enemies that are around level 26 while the last rank has level 40 enemies. Most
ranks will be one mini-boss creature and 4-8 minions. The 10th round is against
two level 40 mini-bosses and 8 rust guards.

Each rank you complete gives you a key to one of the 9 rooms in the arena. Each
room has a big chest with goodies inside for you. The room with the 10th chest
is behind the 9th room and will be accessible once you finish the 10th rank
battle. In this chest is a bounty of items as well as the Mysterious Token. As
an added bonus you can now purchase a pet Light Naiad from Daesthai once you
finished the 10th rank. There are no battles after the 10th rank and you can
not repeat it.

---------------------------
IV. The Secret Area
---------------------------

----------------
A. Getting There
----------------

To enter the secret area you must possess the Mysterious Stone. A chant is also
used but without the stone it is useless. The chant used is 'columnarius
sectorus' which is the reverse of 'surotces suiranmuloc' which is engraved on
the Mysterious Stone. Use 'columnarius sectorus' at any Chant Shrine when you
have received the stone to be teleported to the secret area.

------------------
B. Getting Through
------------------

Getting to the Secret Area is only the first step in the mystery. You must get
to and pass through three sealed doors to claim your prize.

a. Prairie Dog Room
-------------------

This is the first room you come to. You need the Mysterious Bucket to unseal the
and access the room. Within you will find many aggressive level 40 prairie dogs.
Do your best to slay them and get to the next door.

b. Challenge Room
-----------------

The second door is unlocked by the Mysterious Book. This room is far more of a
challenge than the Prairie Dog Room. Within it are a large number of level 40
humanoids that have 20-30k health each and hit very hard. If you can make it
past them then you are almost to the reward you seek.

c. Treasure Room
----------------

This is the final room and the most difficult to enter. You need all three of
the Mysterious Items as well as a secret chant. The most difficult of this
stage has been deciphered by ebator and tested by dknyc.

Under each of the 'stats' for the set items in this FAQ there are a series of
numbers. They change depending on how many items of the set you have equipped.
Seeing that the words vex, from, and quit all add up to 11 characters and that
11 is the highest number listed in the set description it was decided that each
number must represent a number. By trial and error QUIT FROM VEX proved to be
the combination needed to produce the correct chant.

To open the third and final door to the Treasure room, stand before it garbed
in all three items of the Mysterious set and utter 'requo furtivum ixo' and the
door will open.

Within the room was found a great deal of treasure including a Pumpkin Helm and
a Stein of Beer. However neither of them had any remarkable stats. As soon as
the room was opened a Goblin Inventor vanished from the room. The meaning of
his presence there and what other secrets he may lead to will be followed by
this FAQ as research continues.

VI. Special Thanks & Credit

First of all thanks to GameFAQs.com and their forum members for help figuring
out the mystery of the Mysterious. Below are some specific forum members that
made the greatest contributions. All of them are strangers, but even so they
are fellow gamers and wracked their brains and time on these puzzles.

Negorath: Deciphered the Mysterious Chant from the Mysterious Stone. All I
have to say to you is columnarius sectorus!

ebator: Deciphered the strange numbers shown on the various set items and
coming up with an interesting hypothesis that proved correct. To you
       I say, furtivum ixo requo!

dknyc: The first I know of to solve this mystery, he tested out ebator's idea
and proved it true. He is the first of us to pierce the veil. To you I
      say, you got there first!

Devistater: For pointing me in the right direction on how to write a FAQ and
how to submit it. To you I say thanks!
