1. Introduction:
================
Welcome to world of Diablo. Where you have to fight off the evil minions in
the world of Diablo to save mankind from destruction. Only you can save
mankind
from their doom.
Diablo II, one of the best selling games of year 2000. It also received a
lot of
titles such as Game of the Year, RPG of the Year and so on. The expansion
was realeased
in June 2001, which bring this game into another dimension. Previous Diablo
II players
will definitely see the differences between the expansion pack and the
classic Diablo 2.
A lot of skills are changed and two new classes are introduced. The assasin
and druid.
But this guide is just solely for the necromancer. Other than that, Blizzard
North
also added a ton of items such as charm which gives permanent effect when
you put it
in your inventory and a ton of new unique items for every exceptional items
as well
as newly added, elite items. Elite items are even more superior than
exceptional but they
are harder to find. There are several elite unique but they are extremely
rare. Consider
yourself lucky when you get one.
Other than that, there are also class specific items which only certain
characters
can use them. For example like claws, only assasin can equips the claw. They
is also
one unique class specific items for each character and most of them are very
powerful
worth a ton of SOJs.
There's also a ton of new features such as Runewords and crafted items but I
won't go
into detail with them.
One of the most dissapointed changes are that Necromancer been nerfed so
badly that
made this class extremely difficult to survive in Hell difficulty.
Eventhough his skills
have been improved tremendously but still seem very weak compare to other
spell caster such
as the overpowered Sorceress. But with right skills and right equipment, you
can actually
finish Hell difficulty without much problems.
Before that, Necromancer is one of the strongest character classes. Thanks
to his
almighty Corpse Explosion, he can easily annihilate all the enemies within
second.
But Blizzard has nerfed CE into a useless skill and it is only good for
dealings with
physical immune monsters.
===============================
2. Overview of the Necromancer:
===============================
Important note!
---------------
I don't play on Battle.net but I do play D2 over TCP/IP with my friends. We
seldom
duel so my dueling skill sucks so don't ask me for dueling tips because
I don't have any.
You may not agree what I reccomend you to do here. Please bear in mind that
this is only my opinion and you do not need to follow it strictly. Most of
the characters in D2 are highly customizeable so you are not require to
follow it
precisely in order to finish the game and you can built a Necro that suit
your
taste better.
Playing as a Necromancer is completely different from playing other
character classes.
I know every characters are different but none of them is totaly unique
compares
to Necromancer. Bear in mind that Necromancer is a spell caster. Mana is the
most
important thing for him.
Ideal stat points for Necromancer:
----------------------------------
Strenght: 80-100 (your choice)
Because Necromancer isn't a fighter, strenght is not important for
Necromancer but
you need decent strenght so that you can wear better armor.
Dexterity: 30
Never put any point into dexterity! If You want to build a meleemancer than
all I
can say is good luck. Meleemancer will have a tough time when playing Hell
difficulty
and you will find that most of your hits will miss the enemy. That's because
when you put
point into dexterity when playing as a Necromancer then you will find out
that it doesn't
add as much Attack Rating to the necro when compares to other characters
such as
Barbarian and Paladin.
Vitality: As much as possible or somewhere around 100 (your choice)
Vitality is very important for Necromancer due to his low defense. More
points into
vitality means that more life so you can sustain more damages.
Energy: As much as possible
Dump every remaining point into energy. Preferably 3 points for every level
up so
that you will not run out of mana very easily. Your main attack spell should
be Bone
Spirits and it consumes 35+ mana for each hit when maxed so you really need
a lot of mana.
Reccomended Skil Points Distribution:
-------------------------------------
Max Bone Spirits
Max Golem Masteries
Max Fire Golem or Iron Golem (your choice)
10 points for Revive
5 points for skeleton masteries
1 point for Blood Golem
5 points for Iron Maiden
5 points for Lower Resist
1 point for other curses
10 points for Poison Nova (If you want)
1 point for other skills
the rest is up to you.
All these skills should be enough to help you to survive through Hell
difficulty. But please
bear in mind that Necromancer can't kill as fast as other characters so you
have to be
patient. A lot of players gove up playing as Necromancer is because they
don't like
to sit back and watch their Golem doing all the job while the Necromancer
just sit back
doing nothing besides casting curse.
Other than that, make full use of all the curses. Lower Resist works
wonderfully combine
with Bone Spirits, Poison Nova and Fire Golem. All these skills deal
elemental damage
while Blood Golem combine Iron Maiden can breeze you through Normal and
Nightmare
diffivulty where there are almost completely no Physical Immune monsters.
Try all the skills and find the one that suits your taste.
=======================
3. Necromancer's skills
=======================
Important note:
---------------
Again, you may not agree what I say here so please don't tell me that what
what skill is good and that that skill is bad and not worth x skill points.
You can follow your own way of playing and choose the skill that suit your
character the most.
1. Poison and Bone skill tree
-----------------------------
A lot of people considered this tree to be extremely useless. But without
this tree, the Necromancer will have tough time to survive in Hell. I admit
that the poison skills really suck but some of the Bone skill is good. Like
Bone Spirit. That is the best attack spell that a Necromancer can have.
Teeth
-----
Description: Hehehehe... you might think this spell is a joke when you see
the maximum damage it does. But remember, when you maxed this
spell,
21 teeth x 23 dmg = 483 dmg. It's even higer than Bone Spirit.
BUT,
only if you can let all the teeth hit the same enemy and you
MUST be in extremely close range. This is extremely dangerous
for
Necromancer. So, this spell is not really worth the skill
point.

Bone Armor
----------
Description: Quite useful but not necessery. With horde of your minions as
tanks,
the enemy will have a tough time approaching you. Other than
that, it
dissapear very quickly and require you to cast it very often.
Only good in

-------------
Description: WHAT? You say you want to built a daggermancer and wish to
chanlenge
the Ancients solo in Hell? Good luck is all I can say. In order
to
be successful in using dagger and you wish to hit the enemy in
Hell,
you need a TON of +AR items. I'm not kidding, or else you will
see
that every 15 hits only 2 or 3 hits will hit the enemies in
Hell.
Other than that, it's even harder to find a high damage dagger
except a few unique exceptional one.

Coprse Explosion
----------------
Description: For those who hasn't play Classic Diablo II, it is very hard
for them
to imagine how powerful this spell once was before. Before LOD
came out
and a few patches before, Corpse Explosion was considered as
one of
the most powerful spell in Diablo II. It can clear the whole
area of
enemy within a few minutes. But Blizzard nerfed this skill so
badly
that made this skill extremely useless in 3 or more players
game. *Sigh*...
Blizzard, return CE to its former glory... This spell is still
useful against Physical Immune monsters.

Bone Wall
---------
Description: Useless is all I can say. It is only useful against the
Ancients and
certain unique bosses. The Bone Wall's life is too low so you
need
cast A LOT of them in order to block the enemy. It will stay
useless
most of them time. Forgot to mention, in Nightmare and Hell
diffulty,
the bone wall life increases but as well as the monsters attacking
power.

poison damage can be stacked. But Blizzard nerfed it again and

that

Overall this is a good skill tree. Some of them are really great like the
Fire
Golem and Revive. It really helps the Necromancer A LOT in Hell.

Raise Skeleton
--------------
Description: You think watching 20 of your skeletons fighting your enemy is
fun?
Not when you see your skeletons die in few hits from your
enemy.
20 of them can be great tanks for you, but, how many times can
get 20 corpses? You need to kill enemy to gain corpses but in
Hell,
don't think the skels will kill more than 20 enemies for you
before
they crumble.

Golem Mastery
-------------
Desription: This is a MUST max skill! You can totally ignore this skill if
only
1) You are a "powerful" daggermancer which hardly hit anything
or
2) You are a zoomancer which have 20 skely and skely mages
fighting
along side with you... <:D
This skill not only add a ton of life to your Golem and it makes
your
run like wind... well, not that fast. :) It's a great skill
indeed.

Description: Mmmm... what a tasty... ahem... I mean good looking Golem. It
looks like this Golem is made by a pile of red mud. :D

combo most of the time. But its useless decreases drastically
in Hell difficulty. But still, quite usefull most of them time.

3. Curses tree
--------------
One of the most important skills tree for the Necromancer. It really helps
you and your minions a lot. Other than that, in large multiplayer games,
Necromancer's curse can be extremely useful just like the Pally's aura.
Most of the curses can be extremely useful with just one skill point
they don't need a lot of mana to cast. Adding skill point to most of the
curses just only increase their radius and duration so it's not worth it.
Except a few like Lower Resist and Iron Maiden. You need to invest some
points
for these skills but not more than five points for each of them.
Amplify Damage

Espeacially in Hell difficulty, the enemy will receive double

=====================
5. Act V walkthrough:
=====================
This walkthrough is based on the Hell difficulty, so you may not feel very
hard
as I have said in this walkthrough if you are playing Normal and Nightmare
difficulty.
Never ignore my advise, for you will be destroyed by the minions of
destruction.
Quest 1: Kill Shenk the Overseer
--------------------------------
A Necromancer will never have any problem while trying to finish this quest
in
Normal and Nightmare. Iron Maiden+Blood Golem combo works wonderfully and
you
can gain a great amount of experience points. But in Hell, the death maulers
are
immune to physical so the IM+BG combo can't works very well here.
You need to cast Bone Spirit or Fire Golem to deal with the Maulers. All in
all,
this is a pretty easy mission for any characters even for the Necromancer.
Watch
out for the self-destruct berserkers in Hell though, they can most probably
kill
the Necromancer in one explosion.
As Shenk himself, he's doesn't post any threat to the Necromancer once all
his
minions have been killed. Just revive a few minions and summon a Golem and
lastly
cast Iron Maiden or my favirote, Amplify Damage. He should be down very fast
if
you have a lot of revive monsters. The reward is great though, Larzuk will
put
a socket into a item for you. Save it for better items.
Quest 2: Rescue the barbarians
------------------------------
Arggg... the most annoying area for the Necromancer is the those areas that
populated with Demon Imps. Not only their fire ball is extremely deadly if
your
resistances is negative. Don't think your Bone Spirit can hunts them down
easily,
these imps not only shooting Fire Ball, they also teleport around like
crazy.
Fortunately, they are pretty weak. Two to three Bone Spirits can take them
down
already. If only you have slvl 24 or higher Bone Spirit.
Your first priority is to get a positive resistance against fire. Equiping
the
Unique Hellmouth Gaunlet and the Draft Star can save your butt a lot. If
only
you are lucky to find those thing. My paladin got both of those in Act IV
Hell
together so Big D can't even hurt my pally with his LOD and fire spell.
Hehehe...
But my Necromancer isn't that lucky to get those items so he had a tough
time in
that area. Besides the demon imps, the big monsters that the imps can ride
on are
also very dangerous espeacialy the unique one. Try to revive some of them to
be tanks for you. Never revive the demon imps though, they are useless
because the imps are immune to fire which mean they both can't harm each
other.
The big monsters are very slow though, so they are not very useful. Fire
Golem
should be your fisrt choice here. But you need to rely on your Bone Spirit
to kill off the imps.
What makes this area hard is the lack of revive choices. My advise is rush
to
the center of the map and rescue the prisoner as soon as possible and move
on
to the next area. The reward for this quest isn't very attractive though.
You will be given three runes as your reward. They are Ort, Ral, Tal. Find a
good socket shield and put those rune in this order which is Ral, Ort, Tal
to make a RuneWord called Ancient's Pledge. The god thing about this
RuneWord
is it adds plus to all resistances. Other than that, it's crap.
Quest 3: Resque Anya
--------------------
Another pretty easy mission. You need to save Anya in the Frozen River(?).
She's been trapped somewhere inside the ice cave. Most of the enemy in this
area aren't very dangerous except the blood lords. You need to watch out for
those minatour like creature. You will meet them during your way to the
frozen river.
They will use Frenzy once they hit you and this will increase their attack
and speed
tremendously. With two or three of them, your Golem won't last very long.
The unique one is espeacially dangerous. Even the Barbarian with 2k life die
very easily when confronting the unique blood lord if they are not careful.
When you get to the frozen river, it's will be much safer because there are
no Blood Lord around in that area. Once you find Anya, talk to her. Go back
to town and get the potion from Mala. Use it on Anya to melt the ice.
The reward for this quest can be extremely good or bad depending on your
luck. Mala
will give you a scroll which you give to +10 to all resistances permanently.
Which is extremely good. But for Anya's reward, she will give you a rare
Necromancer's shield. The mods are random. If you are lucky, you might get
a +2 to all Necromancer skill shield. I never have this kind of luck though.
But my friend's barby got a +2 before it is possible to get one.
Quest 4: Kill Nilathak
----------------------
This quest IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS for the hardcore character. I will tell
you
why later. When you enter the red portal that Anya opened, there'e a unique
skely called Pindleskin. He's a mlvl 93 and that means he can drops almost
any unique items in the game except the Constricting Ring. But his unique
drop rate sucks so badly, he only a normal unqiue and not super unique.
People
claimed that they got all kind of goodies from him from doing pindle run
this include Windforce and all sort of Elite Unique ans Set.
Remember though, once you hit the waypoint and kill Nilathak. The red portal
will close so you have to run up from the waypoint which is much much
slower.
You need to sacrifice one, either kill Nilathak or don't hit the waypoint.
It's up to you. Nilathak is consider as Super Unique I think, and he can
drop all the unique and set items dur to his high mlvl. But to his poor
drop rate, it's very hard to get a unique from him he's very dangerous to
kill or do Nilathak run.
Now, back to the story. Nilathak simply is the single most deadliest monster
. ahem... enemy that you will be facing throughout the whole game. His
Coprse Explosion can easily kill you in just one tiny blow! The blow radius
is very large. Even a Barby with 2 to 3k life will die in one or two hits
from his almighty CE. Awww.... how I wish the Necromancer's CE can rival
Nilathak's CE.
My advise is, blow ALL the corpses before Nilathak does! Never leave a
single
corpse laying on the ground. Nilathak's life is very low so few hits from
the Necro's bone spirit can already take him down. Beware, he can spawn more
monsters if all his minions are dead. Lure them out of Nilathak's sight
and kill them.
Your quest reward... well... kinda... %#@@$#... Anya will personalize an
item for you. It will add your character's name infront of the item's name.
For example if you personalize the cracked sash (which I never recommend),
it will be xxx's cracked sash. Nice huh? It will not change the item's
attribute though.
Quest 5: Challenge the three Ancients
-------------------------------------
This is by far the thoughest quest you ever play. You need to challenge all
there Ancients by yourself or you can finish this quest with other players
which I reccommend you to do so. But a Necromancer should have no problem to
finish this quest alone.
Go to the Bloody Foothill and revive 10+ Death Maulers which are immune to
physical and summon your strongest Golem. Make haste to the Arreat Summit
due
to the time limit of your revive monsters. Open a TP first before you enter.
Once you are at the Arreat Summit, quickly read the book to awaken the
Ancients.
Although they are powerful, but their life actually are quite low. Three of
them
using diferent skills. All of them are Barbarian's skills which are
Whirlwind (deadly),
Axe throwing (also quite deadly) and Leap Attack (deadly too).
Due to Necromancer's low defense. They can crush him within second. Right
now they
should be busying dealing with your minions. Cast Amplify Damage or Iron
Maiden
to assist you minions. You should cast Bone Spirit from behind. They should
be
down very fast. Ha... even the Barbarian has a tough time against them. :D
Quest 6: Kill Baal
------------------
Before you confronting Baal, he will summon 5 ground of monsters to fight
you.
From Act 1 monsters to Act 4. The last group of monsters are Baal personal's
minions which you never see thoughout the whole game. They are deadly and
they
are fast. They can also stun you once you get hit by them.
But IM+BG combo can easily take care of this problem. Beware, never get
swarm by
them. Or else you will have a tough time retrieving your corpse. Once you
kill
them. Baal will run away. Open a TP first before you go in. Baal is very
very very
tough for Necromancer.
By the time you reach here, there are no corpse around for you to revive and
your Golem will die very fast from Baal's attack. His tantacles are very
annoying.
They can kill Necromancer very easily. My tactic is... dying. :D
All I do is cast as many Bone Spirits to him before he kills me. After my
Necro
die, go back through the TP you opened. Shoot as many BS you can and he
kills you.
Go back, open yet another TP. Go in, shoot BS and he kills you again. Go
back
and yada yada yada, repeat the whole process until he dies. Of course you
can
a party member to assist you but if you play Single and alone, use this
tactics.
Remember, only use this tactic right after you level up.
Hoola... you finish the game and watch the stupid ending. But it's cool
though.
