 CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
==========================================================================================

   Faselei! is a simulation-RPG set in the future where battles are fought using huge
armored mechs known as Toy Soldiers (TS). Unlike most NGP titles, Faselei has a serious
war theme to it. The game's character/mech deigns are great and its overall presentation
gives it a military/war feel. The story development is interesting and the plot is
conveyed through cool cinemas.
   The highligt of Faselei has to be its gameplay. Dubbed "TIPS" (Tactical Intelligence
Programming System", players have to enter a series of commands for their TS to follow.
After ending your turn, your TS will then execute the commands you have given it,
together with all other units on the map which also move simultaneously. This is a fresh
& new idea, giving the game a totally different feel and a greater strategic depth.

 CHAPTER 2: BACKGROUND
==========================================================================================

+-------------------------+
|  SECTION <2.1> PROLOGUE  \-------------------------------------------------------------
+---------------------------+

   In the year 2075, World War III broke out. Countries in the Middle East, Europe,
 Asia, and America suffered severe damage and casualties. The war lasted for 4 years.
 When it finally ended, all was in ruins and chaos. Anarchists everywhere seized the
 opportunity and began a independence movement for a new world without government
 rule...

   The year is now 2099; a litte country known as Istall...

   The first King was assasinated 2 years ago and his death was covered up. The country
 has entered a state of anarchy; independence was finally achieved and peace was
 restored.
   However, with the help of the military, the elder son of the late king was determined
 to reclaim the throne by brute force. He managed to restore the country to its original
 state of monarchy. Under his rule, the country slipped into chaos and uncertainty once
 more.
   Not wanting to see the country deteriorate under his brother's rule, the younger son
 of the late king has started a revolutionary army of his own with the hope of uniting
 Istall. This army, known as the 13th Independent Armored Platoon, "Faselei" shall
 now face the New Istall Army with the intention of creating a better tomorrow...

  CHAPTER 3:  GAMEPLAY
==========================================================================================

+----------------------------+
|  SECTION <3.1> HOW TO PLAY  \-----------------------------------------------------------
+------------------------------+

   <3.1a> GETTING STARTED
  +========================+

   When you first begin a New Game, you'll be asked to enter the name & code-name of
  your Main Character and the name of your TS.
   The default names are...
   - Main Character: Shoutaro Kurosawa (Sho)
   - TS: Zero-Shiki

   If you have an In-Battle save, the game will ask if you would like to load your
  Battle Save.
  (*Note: Your Battle Save will be deleted after it has been loaded.)

   <3.1b> TIPS (A QUICK GUIDE)
  +=============================+

   Faselei uses a new combat system know as "Tactical Intelligence Programming System"
  (TIPS). This requires the player to input battle commands beforehand then watching
  the on-screen action as both sides engage in combat.

   Each stage in Faselei consists of a map where battles are fought. At the beginning
  of your Turn, you are allowed to enter a number of commands (this is determined by
  your TS' Action Points).
   There is a set of Program Chips which you can select for your TS' commands.
  Green chips (such as Fw, Bc, LT, RT) are for Movement;
  Red chips (such as W1, W2, Sp, He) are for performing Attacks;
  Blue chips (such as Gd, Sd, A1) are for Defensive actions;
  and Yellow chips (such as Mc, It) are for Support functions.
  [* Refer to the "Program Chips List" section for more information.]

   Once you have decided what you would like to do, select the Chips you require in
  the order in which you wish your TS to perform them. Once you have entered the
  maximum number of commands, you can choose to end your Turn.
   Your TS will then execute the commands you have given it, together with all other
  units (friends & enemies) who will also carry out their respective commands
  simultaneously.

   After all actions have been carried out, a new Turn begins and you can re-enter
  a new set of commands for the current Turn.
   The stage ends when the objectives have been met (which is usually th destruction of
  all enemy units).

   <3.1c> STAGE MENU
  +===================+

    Pressing 'Option' during a stage will call up the Stage Menu. The following
  options are displayed:
  + Map     - View the entire stage map.
  + Radar   - Turns the mini-map on/off when your TS is executing its commands.
  + Command Guide - Turns the Chip description on/off when you highlight them.
  + Suspend - Creates a Battle Save and automatically quits your game.
  + Exit    - Exits the menu.

+---------------------+
|  SECTION <3.2> BASE  \------------------------------------------------------------------

  Between stages, you will return to the BASE screen. Here, you'll have access to the
 following:

 SHOP          -  Buy/sell various parts & equipment.
 HANGAR        -  Customise your TS.
 COMMAND       -  Story Missions.
 MISSION       -  Side Missions.
 STATUS        -  View the status of all your pilots & their TS.

   <3.2a> SHOP
  +=============+

   This is where you can buy/sell various parts & equipment for your TS.
  After selecting BUY or SELL, the following part categories will be displayed:
  - TS
  - Weapons
  - Defensive Parts
  - Computer
  - Program
  - Items
  - Backpack

   [ TS ]

   This is where you can purchase a TS from various manufacturers. Each TS has
  an attribute known as its "TS Level". The TS Level denotes its 'grade' or 'class'.
  You can only purchase Lv1 TS in the beginning, but more will be available as your
  Rank increases.
   When buying a TS, the following stats are displayed:
   * HP (Hit Points) *
    - The damage your TS can sustain before it breaks down.
   * AP (Active Points) *
    - The number of commands your TS can execute every turn.
   * L:H, R:H, L:S, R:S *
    - These indicate the various limbs on you TS.
    - (ie. Left/Right Hands; Left/Right Shoulders)
    - They also reflect the number of slots available for equiping weapons.
    - Some slots can accomodate up to 2 weapons. (Eg. L:H x 2)

   [ WEAPONS ]

     A large variety of weapons are available here. They are listed as:
   - Assault Rifles
   - Sub-Machineguns
   - Shotgun
   - Gatling Gun
   - Bazooka
   - Sniper Rifles
   - Grenade Launchers
   - Rocket Launchers
   - Missile Pods
   - Beam Cannons
   - Rods
   - Blades
   - Claws
   - Shields

    Each weapon class has its own characteristics. When buying a weapon, the
  following stats are shown:
   Max Ammo
   - The maximum amount of rounds for that weapon.
   Range
   - A diagram of the weapon's range/hit radius is shown.
   Fire Rate x Damage
   - This shows the weapon's rate of fire multiplied by its attack value.
   - Eg. "43 x 1" indicates that the weapon fires 1 shot which does 43 damage.
     Eg. "21 x 3" indicates that the weapon fires 3 shots x 21 damage each.

   [ DEFENSIVE PARTS ]

    These are defensive add-ons for your TS which are equipped on the Shoulder of
   your TS.
    - Jamming Parts
    - TS Coating
    - TS Armor

   [ COMPUTER ]

    The Computer stores a number of Program Chips for use during battles. The max
   number of Chips is shown next to each Computer on the list.

   [ PROGRAM CHIPS ]

    Program Chips are used during battles to perform actions. You start out with the
  basic Chips, but new & advance maneuvers have to be bought.
   The Chips are classified into the following categories:
    - Movement (Green)
    - Attack   (Red)
    - Defence  (Blue)
    - Support  (Yellow)

   [ BACKPACK ]

    Backpack items can only be used during battles and are all single-use only.
    + Ammo        - Replenishes ammo for one weapon.
    + Repair      - Replenishes your TS's HP (comes in 3 levels).
    + Mines       - Inflicts damage to enemies who move over them.
    + Timed Bombs - Bombs which detonate when you want it to.

   <3.2b> HANGAR
  +===============+

   This is where you can set up your TS. You will see your current TS and the equipment
  on its various slots:
  - L:H (Left Hand)
  - R:H (Right Hand)
  - L:S (Left Shoulder)
  - R:S (Right Shoulder)
  - B.Pac (Back Pack)
  - Com (Computer)

   [ TS ]

    Highlight your TS and press 'A'. You can change the Color of your TS or even rename
   it if you wish. Press 'Option' for a complete list of your TS's settings.

   [ HANDS/SHOULDERS ]

    These slots are usually taken by weapons, shields, or other add-ons. Some weapons
   can be Hand-equiped, while others can be attached to the Shoulders. Note that
   certain TS (especially the later ones) can have up to TWO weapons/parts equiped per
   slot.
    To change a weapon/equipment which you have on the Hands/Shoulders of your TS,
   simply highlight the desired part and push A. (At this point, press Left/Right to
   toggle weapons if your TS can have two weapons per slot.)

   [ BACK PACK ]

    The Backpack carries items for use in battle. This includes Repair items, Ammo,
   and Mines. Always remember to resupply your Backpack with Repair and Ammo before
    going for your next mission!
   To manage the items in your Backpack, select your Backpack and choose the first
   option.

   [ COMPUTER ]

     The Computer stores a number of Program Chips for use during battles. Selecting
   your Computer and pushing 'A' will call up the "Chips Menu" where you can
   add/remove Program Chips from your Computer.
     From this menu, pressing 'B' and choosing the 2nd choice will bring up the
   "Weapons Slot Menu". Whenever you equip a new weapon to your TS, you have to
   assign it 1 of 6 Weapons Slot. This corresponds to Program Chips W1 to W6, so if
   you forget to place a new weapon into a slot, it can't be used during battle.

   <3.2c> COMMAND
  +================+

    This brings you to the Command Centre where you'll be briefed on your next mission.
  Just make sure that you have made the necessary preparations before tackling your next
  assignment!
    There are a total of 13 stages in Faselei.

   <3.2d> MISSION

  If you find the need to earn extra money, select this and you'll be able to go on
 a side-mission. Pick a map and destroy all the enemy units. You get to keep any items
 you picked up, too.
  Note that you can only play on maps that you've beaten during the course of the game's
 main story.

   <3.2e> STATUS
  +===============+

  The status screen displays character & TS information for all Faselei members.

  [ CHARACTER ]

    Your characters will acquire experience ponts (EXP) at the end of every stage
  during the Command Missions. Once you meet the requirements, your character will
  gain a Level. Your character's Rank will also be raised after attaining certain
  Levels. Ranks are also earned depending on the grade you get at the end of each
  stage.
    Certain Ranks (marked by * below) will also unlock new weapons & parts in
  the Shop.

  encountered. This includes some of the custom TS piloted by the key villains
  in the game! Pretty cool!

   <3.2h> SAVE
  +=============+

   This is self-explanatory. Let Agnes save your game for you!

+--------------------------------+
|  SECTION <3.3> TIPS/STRATEGIES  \------------------------------------------------------
+----------------------------------+

 BEFORE EACH MISSION
+===================+

1. [ITEMS/AMMO]
  Always remember to stock up on plenty of Repair items and Ammo. There is nothing more
 irritating then losing the game just because you ran out of ammo. (And believe me;
 this happens quite often!)
   A good number of each item to have in your Backpack is:
   - At least 1-2 Repair Items.
   - At least 2-3 Ammo per Weapon type.

2. [WEAPON]
  Although it may seem attractive to bring a variety of weapons with you, it is advisable
 to experiment and stick with 3 different weapon types. It is also easier to manage your
 Backpack when it comes to Ammo distribution.
  During the first few stages, your Backpack can only hold a maximum of 6 items. This
 makes ammo-managing even more difficult. I suggest equipping your TS with 2 ranged
 weapons plus 1 close-combat weapon. Close-combat weapons have 99 uses, so you can use
 these to destroy minor enemies (like tanks and helis) and conserve your ammo for the
 hard-hitting enemy TS.

3. [PROGRAM CHIPS]
  Among all the Program Chips, "Dash" (Da) and "Heat" (He) are the most useful in the
 entire game.
  "Dash" allows you to move 2 spaces at one go, saving you time and allowing you to out-
 maneuver your enemies. It can be used offensively and defensively.
  "Heat" can triple the damage of your attack at twice the ammo cost, so you are
 essentially dealing 1.5 times the regular damage using one less Action Point than you
 normally would.
  Try to get these as soon as they are available in the Shop!

 DURING EACH MISSION

+===================+

1. Always try to approach an enemy from behind or its side such that you are not in
  his line of fire.

2. Try following your team-mate around. That way, you can both gang up on your enemies;
  they would usually be distracted by one while the other can safely attack from a
  distance. You can even use your team-mate as a shield.

3. Although it may be tempting to just face an enemy TS head on and keep on blasting
  each other until either one of you falls, you'll end up losing lots of HP this way.
  Maneuvering around them takes time, but it's much safer in the long run.
