2. Introduction
==============================================================================

Youkai Douchuuki is a platform game based off of Japanese mythology and the
arcade game of the same name.

This walthrough does NOT apply to the PC Engine or arcade versions of this game!

To the non-Japanese speakers, I will explain what the choices do in the
following sections.

I will not list going back to temples to upgrade more or go to shops after you
think you can. That will be up to you.

3. Store items
==============================================================================

When I say to buy an item from a store and you do not know what it is, come
here.
The items are listed in the order they are in the shops.

Demon Soup:
Gives 4 power.

Hell Rice:
Gives 6 power.

Manju:
Gives 8 power when you run out.

Nymph Poop:
You'll see later in the walkthrough.

Double Shot:
Allows you to shoot 2 kiaidama on the screen simultaneously.

Triple Shot:
Allows you to shoot 3 kiaidama on the screen simultaneously.

Demon Charm:
Lets you summon Monmotaro by pressing select.
He can float freely around the screen and fire powerful kiaidama.
However, you cannot advance the screen with him.

Carl Lewis:
Makes you run faster. This surprisingly does not affect pious.

Kappa Flippers:
Makes you swim faster. Only useful on one level.

4. Temples
==============================================================================

You can pray to upgrade here.
You can upgrade (in order) spirit, kiai, or jump.
A successful spirit prayer gives you 3000 pious.
A successful kiai prayer lets you charge kiai more.
A successful jump prayer lets you jump higher.

You have to donate money. The first number is the ten thousands, and the
second is the thousands.
To pray, you have to mash A.
There is a time limit, every thousand money increases it by 10.
A successful prayer is when the whole bar is full.

5. Walkthrough
==============================================================================

Level 1
-------

This level is very simple.
Go right, jump clouds, jump over the hole with the red enemies and down the
 next hole right after that.
Go left, get the money bag, and go through the fence for some money bags and
 boxes.
Head back right and across the river. Jump over the white circles and kill
 the green enemies.
You should find a frog. Shoot it a few times and if you want, jump in a small
 frog near him to play a game. I don't recommend it.
Go right to the end of the screen, get the money bag, and go up the stairs.
Go left for a money box, and go right, defeat the tree, go right and get the
 money box, then go down the stairs.
Go right, fall down on the left.
Get the money bag and go left. Fall down.

Boss: Red Oni
Go to the left and summon Monmotaro.
Attack the boss and the ghosts that appear.
When the boss is defeated, grab the money box.

Level 2
-------

Go right and up the first stairs.
You must buy the Manju and the Nymph Poop.
Buy any other things you like. I would recommend the Double Shot and the
 Kappa Flippers.
Go straight right and give the Manju to Gonta.
Pick up the bottle thing with his remains.
Go left and up the stairs.
Go left for the temple. Upgrade your kiai first, and your jump if you can.
Go right, and up the stairs.
Go left through the fence.
Give him the Nymph Poop.
You get 5000 pious.
Go right, and the stairs lead to a shop.
Buy what you want. Now I would recommend a Carl Lewis and a Demon Charm.
Now all the items that never come back are gone.
Go right and jump over clouds. Be really careful, or you will regret it!
If you need a heal job, jump on the cloud below spikes. Jump up to the top to
 get a full healing for 5000 money.
Go right and jump more clouds, and go up the stairs.
Go left and up the stairs.
Go left and meet someone who will give you the Nymph Heart.
When you die, you will now get a full power refill! So be thankful you came
 here!
Go back down then right.
Go down at the end.

Boss: Blue Oni

Do the same as the last boss.

Level 3
-------

Go left and avoid the jumping spider-looking thing.
If he hits you, you will lose money very fast. Shake it off.
Go up the stairs for a temple. Get the upgrades you want here.
Go right.
If you want, grind enemies for a Triple Shot.
Go up the next stairs for a shop.
You should definitely get the Kappa Flippers because there is lots of swimming
 here.
Go right and cross the water to the second island.
Go right until you reach a cloud.
Jump up on it to the next screen.
Go left to the next cloud.
Jump up on it to the next screen.
Go right and use the rock and cloud to get the 5000 money box.
Go left and then down.
Kill the first enemy to get a money box.
Go right and kill the next Blue Oni for a money box.
Drop down and go right to fall.
You get a money bag.
Go right to the next island.
Go down into the deep water.
Do not follow the arrow, go right.
The first air pocket has a money bag.
The second air pocket has a 5000 money full heal, jump in the right spot.
The third has another money bag.
Go right and down the next pit.
Go right and be careful of the spikes.
You will meet some devils holding a turtle.
Buy it for 30000 money. (The first number is 3 and the second is 0)
You get 5000 pious.
Get on the turtle's back.
Have a dance with the dancer.
The turtle will give you a box.
You could get old age (the bad thing!) or 10000 money (the good thing).
You can say no (the second option) over and over again if you don't want to
 take the risk.

Level 4
-------

Get the money box.
Go right and up the stairs for a shop.
I would recommend the triple shot, you should have enough money to buy it now
 if you didn't shop like crazy.
If you got old age, you must buy the Nymph Poop.
If you have enough jump power, get on the fence and jump off the edge to get a
 money box.
Go right and get on the top of the fence then jump up for a full heal.
Go left and down the stairs.
Go left and up the stairs for a temple.
Go right and defeat the tree.
Get the tree treasure.
Go right and give Gonta's remains to the person.
Get the flowers-- each one is 200 money.
Go left and up the second stairs.
Go left and up the stairs.
Get the money bag and go left.
Drop down at the end and go left.
Defeat the fire enemy at the end. A turbo button really helps here.
Get the fire treasure. Yes, you must take a hit here.
Go right and up the stairs.
Go right and drop down.
Defeat a hand to warp.
Go right and up the stairs.
Go left to a pond.
If your pious is high enough, you get a rope from the heavens. Climb to get
 5000 money!
Go right and drop down.
Defeat the enemy. Get the earth treasure.
Drop down and go right.

Level 5
-------

In this level, do not kill anything or get money. You will lose pious.
Wait for the enemies to get close so you can avoid the money bags.
Go right and down the pit.
Go right and be careful of the money bags that blend in.
Go right and down the pit.
Go right and jump clouds.
Jump over more clouds, avoiding the money bag.
Go right and more clouds.
Go up the stairs.
Go left.
If you have enough pious, climb the rope.
----Ignore this segment if you used the rope----
Go right and down the stairs.
Go right and down the underwater segment at the end of the screen.
Go left and out of the water. Drop down and avoid the money.
----If you used the rope, skip to here----
Go right and jump over the money.
Cross the lava lake.
Use the clouds and go up.
Go right and do not touch the floor.
Go right and drop down.
Go right and use the cloud at the end.
Go across the pool and jump clouds.
On the first cloud, wait for it to go up then jump.
On the second last cloud, wait for the next one to go lower and jump up.
Jump more clouds and on the second-last one, wait for the last one to go down.
Go right.

You have beaten the game, but there are multiple endings to get.
It all depends on your pious.
