Why I Made This FAQ

Sure this game was made in 1988 but a FAQ is needed!  Seeing how I own this
game and have mastered it, I decided to make a FAQ for it.  So, here it is.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
About The Game

WWF Wrestlemania stars six of the top wrestlers in the federation: Andre
the Giant, Bam Bam Bigelow, Honky Tonk Man, Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage and
Ted DiBiase.  You can control any one of these wrestlers in a one-on-one
match with the wrestler of your choice or you can enter a tournament and go
for the gold.  This game supports multiplayer action so you can lay the
smackdown on your family and friends.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
My Review

It's kind of hard rating and recommending this game considering how old it
is.  It does feature six of the top wrestlers from 1988 (when the game was
made) and it includes their theme songs.  The graphics are okay, it is an
NES game after all!  The controls, especially pinning, can be confusing for
newbies but after a few matches you should be able to tell what you are
doing.  I think this game should have had a difficulty setting.  Also, the
characters are a bit unbalanced, this can be viewed as good or bad,
as Hulk Hogan can dominate his matches while Ted DiBiase will struggle.
The some of the wrestlers wrestle like they do in real life, e.g. Bam Bam
Bigelow can do cartwheels and headbutts, while others are pretty generic,
e.g. Ted DiBiase does not do the Million Dollar Dream.  Of course, even the
first Super NES wrestling game, Super Wrestlemania, had all the wrestlers do
the exact same moves so I have to give credit here for at least establishing
the wrestlers as being unique.  At first I did not really like this game but
after I learned the controls and chose the right wrestlers to use it became
enjoyable to play.  Overall, I would give this game a 7 out of 10 because
I am a wrestling fan and I did have lots of fun playing it.  This game isn't
for everyone as I would rate it a 4 out of 10 for non-wrestling fans who will
probably struggle more by chosing Honky Tonk Man instead of Hogan and quit
playing within mere seconds.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Andre the Giant

Bio: The legendary fan-favourite Andre the Giant turned heel
and faced Hulk Hogan in the main event at Wrestlemania III in 1987.
This was a classic bout and their feud was continued on into the
following year. Ted Dibiase attempted to buy the world title from Hogan
but when he was unsuccessful he instead bought Andre's contract.
Then in February 1988, Andre did the unthinkable and pinned Hulk Hogan
for the title due to a fast three count from the referee (Hogan also
had his shoulders off the mat).  Andre's reign didn't last long as he
immediately gave the belt to DiBiase.  WWF President Jack Tunney declared
the title vacate since Andre forfeited the belt.  This led to the world
title tournament at Wrestlemania IV and a re-match with Hogan that ended
in a double DQ.  Andre's bad back forced him into semi-retirement
although he did capture the tag team belts with Haku.  Sadly, Andre died
in 1993.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bam Bam Bigelow

Bio: Bam Bam made a huge splash in the WWF in late 1987 by being the last
member of his Survivor Series team that also included Hulk Hogan.  He was
entered in the Wrestlemania IV title tournament but a knee injury forced
the "Beast From The East" to lose his first round match to the One Man
Gang.  During his first WWF run he was managed by Sir Oliver Humperdink.
Bammer then left the WWF and has since wrestled in Japan, WCW, ECW.  In ECW
he won both the World and Television title.  He is probably best remembered
in ECW as the man who dropped the title to Rob Van Dam (who held the belt
for nearly two years) and for falling through the ring with Taz.
He returned to the WWF in 1993 and was in the main event at Wrestlemania
XI, losing to former NFL star Lawrence Taylor.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Honky Tonk Man

Bio: The self proclaimed "Greatest Intercontinental Champion" held the
belt the longest, from June 1988 until Summer Slam 1989 (August 1989).
He lost the belt to the up-and-coming (and also red hot) Ultimate Warrior.
Honky Tonk Man was managed by the "Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart.

Controls:

A: punch, drop kick (when running)

B: kicks, flying elbow smash (from turnbuckle)

A+Up+Down: headbutt

B+Up+Down: pins opponent (opponent must be on the mat)

B+A: back elbow smash (back towards opponent)

Special Item: guitar, this item re-energies Honky Tonk

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hulk Hogan

Bio: The most popular wrestler in WWF history, Hulk Hogan first captured
the WWF title from The Iron Sheik on January 23, 1984.  He held the belt
until his shocking lost to Andre the Giant in February, 1988.  He captured
the belt four more times before departing for WCW in 1994 and holding
their world title six times.  In the summer of 1996, Hogan made a shocking
heel turn to lead the nWo heel group.  Hogan returned to the WWF in 2002
and held the world title once more.

Controls:

A: uppercut, drop kick (when running)

B: kicks, flying leg smash (from turnbuckle)

A+Up+Down: headbutt

B+Up+Down: pins opponent (opponent must be on mat)

B+A: back elbow smash (back must be toward opponent), body slam (when
facing opponent)

Special Item: cross, this item revitalizes his strength

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Macho Man" Randy Savage

Bio: Oh yeah, "Macho Man" Randy Savage held the intercontinental title once
and the WWF world title twice.  He lost the intercontinental title to Ricky
Steamboat at Wrestlemania III in what is considered one of the greatest
matches of all time.  Savage won the world title in the tournament at
Wrestlemania IV and again at Wrestlemania VIII.  Savage wore colourful
robes to the ring and "The first lady of professional wrestling" Miss
Elizabeth accompanied him to the ring on many occasions.

Controls:

A: elbow smash, drop kick (when running)
B: kick, flying elbow smash (from turnbuckle)

A+Up+Down: headbutt

B+Up+Down: pins opponent (opponent must be on mat)

B+A: back elbow smash (back must be toward opponent)

Special Item: sunglasses, this item increases his energy

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase

Bio: Every man has a price.  Those were the famous words of "The Million
Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase.  He would pay fans to do disgusting things, such
as clean his boots or kiss his bodyguard Virgil's feet (which is what he
made a very young Rob Van Dam do).  DiBiase thought that he could buy
the world title from Hogan, which proved to be a failure as Hogan refused
the offer.  DiBiase then bought the contract of Andre the Giant with the
plan being that Andre would win the belt then hand it over to DiBiase.
This plan worked (he also paid off the referee) until WWF President Jack
Tunney declared that Andre forfeited the belt and it was then held up.
DiBiase was never credited with a world title reign.  However, he did
get a special "Million Dollar Belt" made specially for him.  He held
it until his bodyguard Virgil had enough of DiBiase's abuse and turned
against him.  Virgil won the belt at Summer Slam 1991 but DiBiase won
the belt back later that year.  DiBiase then formed the tag team Money
Inc. with Irwin R. Shyster (I.R.S.).  In 1993, he retired as a
wrestler but he managed several wrestlers including Bam Bam Bigelow,
1-2-3 Kid, Tatanka, King Kong Bundy, The Ringmaster (Steve Austin) in WWF
and the nWo and the Steiner Bros. in WCW.

Controls:

A: punches, drop kick (when running)

B: gouges eyes, leaps from turnbuckle

A, Up, Down: pins opponent (opponent must be on the mat, face up)

B, A: delivers a back elbow smash (when back is toward opponent), body slam
(when facing opponent)

Special item: Dollar sign, it revitalizes DiBiase's strength

Strategies

-The easiest, and cheapest, strategy that I can suggest is to corner
your opponent and just bash the buttons!  This will method works most
of the time for me.  Just do not let up or else your opponents will
run away.

-The wrestler I do the best with is Bam Bam Bigelow.  Usually I just
attack them with the cartwheel then rapidly bash them with headbutts.

-Try avoiding attacking with your back near the ropes or the computer
will try to corner you.  If the computer is trying to do this then
quickly run up or down to avoid losing energy.

-Stay near the top so that you can pick up the special items.  Also,
get your opponent near the bottom so that they do not reach their
item.

-In tournament mode there is a time limit so you have to finish off
your opponents faster than in stadard mode

-The health meter slowly rises back to the top so take a breather if
you need health.  Also, don't let your opponent take a one if they're
near the end of their meter.

-Just because their meter is finished doesn't mean that they are down
for the count.  I find that pinning is extremely hard in this game
(compared to other wrestling games that is) so keep knocking them down
until they can't get up at all.  Them, stand near their head/upper body
and press the correct buttons or do what I usually do and press all the
buttons at once.

Note: This FAQ is 100% my own creation and I did not copy it from any source.

The bios used were created from my own mind and the dates
I used were from my memory.

I used the PWI almanac to confirm that what I was remembering was correct
