¯-_ _\/ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
¯¯
Whomp 'Em was one of my favorite games ever when I was a child.
The story of the Indian Brave Soaring Eagle and his quest to fill his
magic pouch with totems to prove himself a warrior to his village was
pretty cool to an eight-year old. I didn't notice that the game was
actually a former Dragonball game with just warpaint put on Goku's face
and a spear tip added to his staff. Anyways,I played it all the time,
but never finished it, unfortunately.
Flash forward about eight years. I'm rummaging in my closet, and
come upon this game. I pop it into my top loader, and...realize it's
just a MegaMan clone. But it's a FUN MegaMan clone. I play it for a while
but get stuck. I look for a walkthrough on GameFAQs, and realize there
is none. Well, needless to say, I finally completed it, and wrote
this FAQ to help you through any parts that might give you trouble in
the game.

< ----|--| | | | 2. OVERVIEW AND CONTROLS |
¯-_ _\/ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
¯¯
Basically, you control Soaring Eagle through eight worlds to
collect magic "totems" for his magic pouch and to prove himself as an
Indian Brave. The first world gets you into the game, and has no boss.
After the first test, you get to choose the next test to complete. You
can play the levels in any order you want. You get a magical totem from
each boss you defeat ( For more information on totems, see Section 3 ).
Once you defeat all six bosses, a new test appears, and you must
complete that to end the game.
Controls
==========
Directional Pad - Controls Soaring Eagle's movements
START - Press to select a Totem to use
SELECT - Pauses/resumes the game, shows how many more Gourds
before you get an extra Heart
A Button - Jump
B Button - Strikes with Soaring Eagle's spear or Totem

TOTEMS
======================================================================
The goal of the game is to collect all seven "totems" to defeat
the final boss. Totems are special powers Soaring Eagle gets for
defeating the bosses for each test of courage. The set-up is similar
to the Mega Man games, but when you receive the power-up, you have
unlimited use of the power-up with no loss in your health or special
energy bar (except for Death Branch). Below is a list of the totems and
what they do. The rating system rates them out of the 7 totems
available.
+++++++++++++++++++
SPEAR WHIRLWIND
+++++++++++++++++++
Stage: Sacred Woods
Description: Repels enemy attacks and breaks rocks
Comments: The first power-up I suggest getting, as Spear Whirlwind
opens up paths to many power-ups to help you with the
bosses. I found the repel aspect of this power-up hard to
pull off in time before the projectile reached you, and
there was no real way to counterattack effectively with
this equipped. I would use it only to open up paths and
nothing else.
Rating: 3 / 7
++++++++++++++
DART
++++++++++++++
Stage: Secret Cliff
Description: Allows Soaring Eagle to shoot spear
Comments: Another useful power-up, this allows Soaring Eagle to
make steps with his spears to reach higher ledges.
He makes steps by shooting his spears into walls, where
they stick and he can then climb on them. It can be used
as an attack, but it is very weak against most enemies
and some monsters are even invulnerable to them. Useful
for movement, not much else.
Rating: 2 / 7
++++++++++++++++
FIRE WAND
++++++++++++++++
Stage: Fire Test
Description: Shoots a flame
Comments: An offensive power-up, it shoots a flame out of the tip
of Soaring Eagle's spear. While not to be used on every
stage, it is especially powerful in the Ice Ritual and
makes the boss much easier. Once you get pass Ice Ritual
however, I would rather use my normal spear than use it
again.
Rating: 4 / 7
+++++++++++++++
CLOUD
+++++++++++++++
Stage: Ice Ritual
Description: Allows Soaring Eagle to fly
Comments: Flying on a cloud seems like a good time, right ? Not in
this game. Not only does the Cloud take forever to
actually form after you use it, it moves around while you
try desperately to get on it. Once you do, it only lasts
a short while, and moves veryyyyy slowly. If I need to
get to hard-to-reach areas, I'd rather use Dart, but
use Cloud as a last resort.
Rating: 5 / 7
+++++++++++++
WEB
+++++++++++++
Stage: Magic Forest
Description: Allows Soaring Eagle to catch an enemy in a web
Comments: Worst offensive power-up in the game, in my opinion.
By using it, it catches some, definitely not all, enemies
in a web, and you can shoot the enemy at other enemies.
The downfall of this power-up is that it catches a very
small number of the monster population, and it would be
easier to just kill both enemies instead of catching one
and shooting him at the other.
Rating: 7 / 7
++++++++++++++++
ICE CRYSTAL
++++++++++++++++
Stage: Water Test
Description: Freezes enemies
Comments: It does what it says: freezes enemies in place so you
can just walk on by or use another weapon to finish them
off. While I found this useful for some areas like the
Dragons at Secret Cliff, once again I wondered why I
just didn't kill the Dragon instead of freezing him,
THEN killing him. It works on a lot more monsters than
Web, but not all. Can be useful, but there are better
power-ups.
Rating: 6 / 7
++++++++++++++++
DEATH BRANCH
++++++++++++++++
Stage: Final Test
Description: Destroys every enemy in its path
Comments: A very powerful power-up, with a very major setback: it
takes away one whole heart everytime you use it. That
can really add up, because you can only use it 11 times
before you are down to one Heart, and that's only if you
got the maximum number of hearts. However, it does
destroy every enemy, and makes the Final Test a little
easier. Good power-up, use sparingly.
Rating: 1 / 7

=======================================================================
a.) Beginning Test
=======================================================================
Move forward to encounter your first two enemies, two Jumping
Mushrooms. Continue forward until you reach the first vertical part of
the level. Climb up, and when you see the Evil Hands forming, just
duck or jump over them. If you were hurt on the way up, there is a
hidden Small Heart on the left side at the top of mountain.
The next obstacle is platform-jumping over spikes, while Potato
Bugs rain down upon you. If you just keep moving and don't stop, you
will never get hit. Eventually the platforms start to move up and down,
but that's nothing to worry about.
In the next vertical section, fall down the left-hand side of the
screen until you reach the first niche in the solid wall. There is a
hidden Magic Potion there. Drop down to the bottom, and in the next
screen, watch out for the Troll: he requires two hits to kill instead
of one. If you don't have three Magic Potions already, there is another
one hidden at the end of the bush in the background. There is no boss
for this level, so now you can choose from six levels.
========================================================================
The Stages, In The Order I Recommend
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Sacred Woods
Fire Test
Ice Ritual
Secret Cliff
Magic Forest
Water Test
========================================================================
b.) Sacred Woods
========================================================================
As soon as you start the level, you'll encounter a Cyclops, a
beast that hops in an arc and requires two hits to kill. Beyond him are
three platforms above you. The second one has a hidden Magic Potion on
it if you don't already have three extra lives. Use the second platform
to jump up to the high plateau, but let the Cyclops jump down before
you jump onto it.
The next area has falling bamboo spikes that do damage if they hit
you. Time your jumps to get in-between the spikes, and you'll encounter
a Bear, which requires three hits to kill. You can easily defeat him by
going underneath him and doing a Jump Attack three times. He always
drops a Spear Power-Up.
While making your way downwards during the next part of the level,
little Spiders will climb up the tree trunks and shoot pellets at you.
Killing Spiders is a good way to collect Gourds, so make your way
slowly down the tree and kill as many as you can along the way. There
is another hidden Magic Potion on the far-right platform as soon as the
background turns black. At the bottom there is another Bear, who can be
defeated using the same strategy as above. The next section is small,
with Snakes attacking you. To defeat them easily, duck down and attack.
This is another great place to collect Gourds, and I would recommend
you have five Hearts by now.
Soon you'll be climbing up the inside of a tree. Bamboo will start
to fall again, but it is much easier to avoid this time. Trolls will
also appear, but they usually just jump right out of the screen :P.
There is a hidden Deerskin Shirt halfway up the tree on the left
side, in the space between two platforms. You have to jump from log
to log further up, but there are no enemies in your way. Continue on,
stopping to kill two more Trolls before meeting your first boss.
+++++++++++++++++++
Forest Guardian
+++++++++++++++++++
This boss will do some damage, but not enough to make you use a
Magic Potion. His attack pattern is as follows: float above the three
platforms, shooting bamboo down, then flutters down, pauses for a
moment, then turns into a circle of leaves and a row of bamboo falls
down. He reforms, pausing again, then the pattern repeats.
Once you get to the boss fight, move to the corner which is
farther away from him. He usually doesn't hit the corner, but if he
does, it does minimal damage. After he finishes that up, he flutters
down, and pauses for a half-second on the ground. You can usually get
two hits in at this point: one while he is still fluttering, and one
when he lands. Don't try to get in more, or you'll receive damage from
the leaf circle, which hurts more than the bamboo. The bamboo falling
WILL hit you sometime, no matter how good your reflexes are. Don't try
to avoid it, or you'll miss another free hit when the Forest Guardian
reforms. Once he starts shooting bamboo, lather, rinse, and repeat.
========================================================================
c.) Fire Test
========================================================================
You'll encounter your first four-hit enemy right away, a Gremlin
with a shield who throws daggers at you. If you stand on the ledge
above the ground the Gremlin is standing on, you can keep on jabbing
and his daggers will pass right beneath you. You will always receive a
Spear Power-Up from him. The next section asks which you are better at:
precise jumping or dodging missiles. If you take the top route, molten
rocks will fall right on top of you. If you take the bottom route, you
will have to jump on very small outcroppings in the lava. I suggest the
bottom route, as the rocks are a bigger danger.
The next section is a pain, due to the Firebirds. Firebirds swoop
down at you when you pass, and are one-hit kills. However, when you
kill them, two embers pop out of them, doing damage if they hit you, as
if they weren't hard to avoid already. Also, you'll encounter weighted
platforms over lava, which drop down into the lava if you stay on them
long enough. Jump very quickly from one to the next. There is a hidden
Magic Potion on the platform above the entrance to the next section.
It's reachable from the weighted platforms.
Fire jets greet you in the next section. They shoot from the side,
above you, below you...everywhere. Timing is crucial, so try your
hardest not to get caught up on the ladders. When you get to the final
two jets, jump in the air while the higher platform jet is on, so you
don't get burnt by the lower platform one. After this comes a little
molten rock falling on you, but only for a little while. Mushrooms will
appear again, which are easy to kill or you could just watch then
jump to their doom :). Before you reach solid ground again, there is a
hidden Large Heart on the highest small platform, on its right edge.
Watch yourself when you jump back onto solid stone again, as a Firebird
will swoop down mid-jump.
Here comes the part where they throw everything but the kitchen
sink at you. Molten rocks, dipping platforms, four-hit Gremlins,
Firebirds, it's all here. The key is to move quick, and don't worry too
much about damage, as there is a hidden Large Heart at the end. Just
rush, and pray you don't lose five Hearts. Another Gremlin meets you at
the end of the gauntlet, but no cheap tricks to beat him easily. You
can only hit him when his shield is down, and his shield is down only
when he throws daggers. Jump and hit him when he throws a dagger to do
damage. There is a hidden Large Heart at the edge of the highest hill
to jump to the cliff. Don't accidentally walk into the boss room without
it, because this one is tougher than the previous (but not by much).
+++++++++++++++++
Fire Guardian
+++++++++++++++++
After a very tough level, an easy boss fight is always a good way
to cool down. The Fire Guardian has two forms: a Gas form and a Fireman
form. The boss fight starts out with the Guardian in Gas form. The
attack pattern is as follows: circular motions in air while moving
towards you in the air for about four rotations, pauses and turns into
Fireman form, jumps at 45-degree angles around arena, pauses again to
return to Gas form, and then the pattern repeats.
The first thing to do in this boss fight is move directly to the
right of the boss. If you stay on the left side, his Gas form will most
likely hit you, but by staying on the right side, he will transform
into Fireman form before he comes near you. You should get in as many
hits as possible here, as he is an easy target. When he pauses to
transform, be sure to hit him again. In Fireman form, he will jump
at angles around the small arena, leaving not much time to hit him
without being hit. He jumps from one side to the other without
switching direction, so if you are to the right of him and he is
jumping right, hit him without fear of retaliation. Once he pauses to
transform into Gas form again, hit him again, and you should be able
to defeat him before he transforms into Fireman form again.
========================================================================
d.) Ice Ritual
========================================================================
You have to make your way down a shaft in the beginning of this
level, with eyes watching you the whole way down (ooo, creepy). Falling
straight down is not recommended, due to the spikes on some platforms
and the fact that the Hands come out quicker the faster you fall. So
jumping from platform to platform slowly is the best way to go. The
platforms on the right side tend to break a lot over spikes, so staying
on the left side would be the better choice. Eventually, you'll come to
a long platform with no escape, until you defeat the Samurai. The
Samurai takes four hits, and if you try to jump over him, he jumps too.
Just mash the B Button four times, there might be no way to avoid being
hit. The Samurai always drops a Spear Power-Up. Fall the rest of the
way down, and go through another room that's quite an "eye-full".
The next shaft may look tempting to fall down the middle of, but
definitely don't. Apparently, Lost Souls use this shaft as an expressway
and once you fall down the middle you'll be hurting by the end. Just
jump to the left platform, walk off the platform, and fall down to the
one below it. You could also alternate between the left and right
platforms by jumping from one to the other and back. Lost Souls can be
killed for some Gourds, so you might want to grab a few on the way
down. When you come to a fork in the shaft, take the right shaft. Make
your way down, kill a few Slimes along the way, and collect the Magic
Potion at the bottom. Make your way back up, and now take the left
shaft. Huge Palms carry you back to the top if you land on them, and
Lost Souls float up from time to time. If you get caught in a Palm,
jump off quick, and stick to the platforms on the left side. You have
to face another Samurai at the bottom, so use the same strategy as
before.
Crossing the lily pads, you'll run into a Troll and a few Slimes.
No problems here, just kill a few, hope you get a Flint Spear Head or
Buffalo Headdress Power-Up, and fall down the next shaft to the boss
himself.
+++++++++++++++++
Ice Guardian
+++++++++++++++++
This boss fight seems hard at first, but is incredibly easy if you
get him in a "Spear Lock". This will be explained below. His attack
pattern is as follows: jump around the room, splits into four parts
that follow the compass directions (one goes north, one goes south,
etc.) after a few seconds of not being attacked or being attacked.
Basically, you want to catch the boss up in the air with a hit
from your Spear. Once you hit him, he will split and reform. By hitting
him again as soon as he reforms, he barely moves, and splits again. If
you continue to do this, you will have him in "Spear Lock" and he will
be destroyed before he hits the ground. The best time to do this is
when he jumps off one of the higher ledges, and he is at the apex of
his jump. However, it should work any other time also. Just make sure
he is high enough when you hit him so when he barely moves, he isn't
close enough to the ground to hit you when he splits.
========================================================================
e.) Secret Cliff
========================================================================
First thing you'll notice is that the floor you are walking on is
quite slippery, and those flying Dragons are a #%&*# to kill. However,
there is a very easy way to get past them: just stand still when they
appear on the screen. Apparently, they don't see you (like the T-Rex
in Jurassic Park), and just move around a bit and spit a fireball out
above or below you. There are four Dragons to get past. Once that's
over, you'll run into Candlemen. They charge right at you, so be fast
on the B Button to get two hits in. TNT Slugs are next. They don't move
and they have a little sign over their head that says TNT. If you touch
them, they blow up and you lose some Heart energy. Carefully jump your
way through them. When you get to the TNT Slug on a higher ledge than
the previous one, move back a bit to give yourself more room to jump.
Candlemen will appear near the end, so let them come to you before
jumping.
While climbing up the next section, green rocks will fall down.
They don't go down ladders, so staying in the middle of a ladder when
the rocks fall keeps you safe. You'll also encounter more Candlemen,
who sometimes drop Gourds, hopefully getting you to the six Heart mark.
When you reach the top, jump to the right ledge with a vine in the
background to find a hidden Large Heart.
Using the Spear Whirlwind totem you got from Sacred Woods, break
open the rocks below the platform to get a Spear Power-Up. A Knight
might appear, but the Spear Whirlwind totem works great against him.
The next section requires quick jumping, as you must jump back and
forth between the two small platforms to reach the top. Near the top on
the first set of platforms is a hidden Magic Potion, don't let it
surprise you and watch it fall.
Circling rocks over spikes greet you in the area before the boss.
Also, molten rocks drop down from time to time :( Don't let it
intimidate you, however. The platforms meet at certain points, so it's
easiest to transfer from platform to platform there. If a molten rock
comes near, let it hit you, as the damage it does is inconsequential
compared to the damage you will take from the spikes as you try to
scramble back onto a platform.
+++++++++++++++++++
Secret Guardian
+++++++++++++++++++
Gah, this guy is as tough as the Water Guardian, maybe tougher.
However, the power-up he gives is worth it. His attack pattern is as
follows: floats above attack range, turns into a ball, bounces around
arena EVERYWHERE, not just off ground like the Fireman form of the Fire
Guardian, also the ceiling, uncurls out of ball, lands, shoots hand
out, hand comes back, and the cycle repeats.
Do not, I repeat, DO NOT stay in a corner, or anywhere near a
corner. That's what he wants you to do, so he can slam you unconscious,
Your best bet is to stay in the middle, and move a small distance when
he comes towards you. Moving too far results in being trapped in a
corner, which isn't good. Once he uncurls, get ready to do some damage.
Jump over his fist, and hit him before it comes back. Beware, it can
also hit you when it is returning to his hand. If you are lucky, the
hand will go across the screen and miss, giving you enough time to get
in two hits. Once he curls up again, stay in the middle and repeat.
It is possible to do damage to the Secret Guardian while he is
curled up and bouncing. Just hit the ball as it passes for some damage.
However, the ball will most likely hit you in the process, so it's not
recommended if you are trying to keep all your lives. I decided to add
this because of e-mails regarding the "invincible ball" guardian...
========================================================================
f.) Magic Forest
========================================================================
Apparently, Soaring Eagle has been drinking a bit too much hooch
(just like the stereotypes !), and begins to see Pink Elephants. They
are a pain to kill because they jump around so much, but they only
require one hit to kill. Just keep running and hope they don't see you,
as they usually chase you down. When you come to Flowers, just time
your jumps in-between the seeds they spit out. You'll meet your first
Snail here too. Snails have the special trait of being invincible when
they are in their shell. When they are outside their shell, they take
three hits to kill. Not too much here, just continue on.
Make your way down, pausing to kill the Snails along the way.
There is a hidden Large Heart on the first platform on the left on your
way down. The Snails become more abundant near the bottom, so try to
jump in-between them. Once you reach the bottom, head left for the next
physical challenge. You have to cross a pool of lava by jumping on
leaves. The leaves will only support you for a short while, but they
give your jump an extra spring to it. Once you reach the other end,
more Pink Elephants will appear, and you'll also meet a Pink Knight.
To tell the truth, the Pink Knight is one of the toughest regular
enemies in the game. He rolls into a ball, has a shield to block
attacks, and is overall just one mean mamba-jamba. In some cases it
might be better to avoid him altogether. However, the Spear Power-Up is
crucial to beating the Boss easily. It's up to you if you want it or not.
If you don't, just jump over him and move on.
The next section also uses those ever-flexible leaves in climbing
upwards. There are no enemies until the top, so make your way up by
jumping on dandelion seeds to reach higher leaves, and higher leaves
to reach dandelion seeds. Once you reach the top, don't jump right away
as yet another Pink Elephant will pop out. Once he's gone, go to a
screen with only two Mushrooms in it. This is hands down the best place
to collect Gourds and reach the maximum of 12 Hearts. I definitely
recommend it, even though it is quite time-consuming. Also, there are
TWO hidden Large Hearts at the bottom area of the screen, below the
first cocoon. Apparently, they are time-activated, so stay on this
one screen for a minute or so and then try it to get the Hearts. Once
you built up your Heart maximum or laughed at my idea and called
yourself too hardcore a player to do it, move to the boss room.
+++++++++++++++++++
Magic Guardian
+++++++++++++++++++
Yet another two-form boss, she changes form PERMANENTLY from
Cocoon to Butterfly. Her Cocoon form can be difficult to predict,
and her Butterfly form is only easy to kill if she glitches, so this
fight can be a bit difficult. Her attack pattern is as follows: starts
out as a Cocoon, hiding in the tree, and appears for a half-second then
drops straight down. This causes a little area of dust to come up which
causes damage, and she then rises back into the tree. Once you take
away half her life, she turns into a Butterfly and swoops around the
room, shooting out webs in the intermediate cardinal directions
(northwest,southwest,northeast,southeast). Once you hit her enough in
that form, she turns red and can steal a Magic Potion if she hits you.
If she does, she regains life, and she goes back to normal Butterfly
mode.
While she is in Cocoon form, don't predict her attacks. Don't
automatically move to the left of where you are standing, because
most of the time she never drops directly on you, and instead, around
you. This is in hopes that you will panic while she is in the tree
and run around randomly. Relax and watch the treeline. If she IS above
you, you still have a chance to move. When she lands, hit her once and
let her climb back up. Once enough damage is done, she transforms into
a Butterfly and regains a bit of life.
Now if you got the Spear Power-Up from the Pink Knight before, now
is the time to use it. First move to the left, and then right. This
moves her into the right corner, where she'll move between only two
positions and her attacks will miss. If you move, however, she moves, so
stand in the corner and bash her for a quick win. If you didn't get the
Spear Power-Up, your Spear won't reach her in there. Also, SHE STEALS
YOUR MAGIC POTIONS WHEN SHE TURNS RED! Once she turns red, watch out. If
you are hit, you don't lose one Heart, you lose one Magic Potion! When
she turns red, wait. Be still. Losing a Magic Potion is tough, but she
also regains life, and that means she can turn red again ! Use the Fire
Wand, it does extra damage. If all goes well, you lose none, maybe one
Magic Potion. Otherwise...she ruins your entire game, because you have
no lives for the Final Test :( Good luck, you'll need it.
========================================================================
g.) Water Test
========================================================================
You have to cross a pool of Octopi to start it off, either by
going through the water and fighting the Octopi or jumping on the
platforms that float on the water. The platforms are just like the ones
in the Fire Test, which sink very fast once you jump on them. You'll
probably end up being dunked anyways, so I would just cross underwater.
Remember, anytime you are underwater, you need to come up for air from
time to time or you lose a Heart. Anyways, the Octopi take two hits to
kill and they shoot pellets at you. You can block the pellets by standing
still and letting them bounce off your speartip. Get on dry land once
you're done, shake yourself off, and continue on.
The next vertical part is sparse with a few Snails, so fall down
into the pool at the bottom right away. When you get to the next screen,
let the Octopi fall down first before you attack it. Ahead, you'll spot
a pool with no visible end. You have to make your way quick through this
pool, to avoid losing too many Hearts from lack of air. When you see
Clearfish, don't attack them. They break up into three smaller fish that
are harder to hit and still do damage. Watch for the plants spitting
coral, and jump out of the pool and continue on.
This can be one of the most frustrating parts of the game. Not only
do you have to climb up on icy, slippery platforms, little Waves come
and carry you down if they touch you. The only way to escape is by
struggling and jumping. Otherwise, you could be on a one-way trip down
to the bottom. Once you get on a platform, wait and jump before jumping
right again. Usually, you can then jump over the Waves when they come
instead of being surprised. There are a few Candlemen waiting on the
platforms also. Once you reach the top, jump over to the small platform
on the left side to find a hidden Magic Potion.
In the next section, equip the Fire Wand right away. You can melt
the ice blocks to reach the Spear Power-Up, and exit on the other side.
The Ice Knight dies with one shot of the Fire Wand. Jump to the top of
the next pyramid, jump across the three platforms, and enter the room
of the Water Guardian.

This boss actually takes the longest to die, if the Magic Guardian
didn't take any Magic Potions (damn her!), but his attacks aren't that
damaging. His attack pattern is as follows: Goes into Water Ball form,
moves clockwise around the room, drops down, turns into Frog form,
shoots three Water Waves at you, and the pattern repeats.
The Water Guardian can only be harmed when he is in Frog form, so
when he is in Water Ball form, you have to avoid him. He always moves
left, however, so just jump over to his right side or stay on his right
side when he goes into Water Ball form and he won't run into you. He
usually climbs up onto the ceiling and drops down. When he makes a
circle of water, which means he is turning into Frog form, it's time to
get ready. When he does change, do a Down Attack on his head by jumping
above him and pressing Down. This will harm him while also keeping
you out of harm's way. You should be able to get one, maybe two attacks
in before he changes back. Be sure to jump away when he changes, or
you'll be hurt when he turns back to Water Ball form. Repeat this
pattern until he is dead.

Now that you've defeated all six Guardians, a light shines down
atop the center mountain. It gives you the seventh Totem, Death Branch,
and also takes you to the Final Test. Hopefully, you have 10 or more
Hearts, and quick reflexes, because the Final Test is extremely
difficult. Read the walkthrough below, and good luck.

h.) Final Test
========================================================================
Your first challenge is crossing the clouds to get into the
fortress. A note about the enemies here, they are all miniature
versions of the Guardians. The first two Mini-Guardians you face are
the Ice Guardians and the Secret Guardians. Ice Guardians float towards
you, then drop down straight down on you or up if you are above them,
and Secret Guardians jump around a lot, usually on top of you. Anyways,
the clouds automatically make you jump, making it that much more
difficult to jump over the toxic (blinking) sections of the clouds. I
suggest using the Death Branch periodically, because Large Hearts are in
abundance on this stage, and its the only weapon with real power against
the enemies :P Once you reach the tree trunks, you'll have to switch to
the Dart sub-weapon to climb up the trunks. There is a hidden Large
Heart on the first yellow box you come to. When you reach a trunk which
seems to be decaying in some areas, use the Spear Whirlwind to break
them apart. When you reach the final trunk, jump at the very edge of the
rotting part to make it to the next section.
On the fifth cloud up in the next area, there is a hidden Large
Heart. Making your way up, you must get past more Ice Guardians. I used
the Cloud to help me get up with minimal damage. Just remember that when
you are hit using the Cloud, it becomes intangible for a bit and you
fall. Be sure to have a platform under you.
Notice those tentacles at the bottom of the screen? You fall on
them, you start back at the beginning of the board. Definitely not good.
Anyways, use the Fire Wand to melt the ice, and climb through the
trunks. You'll meet the mini-Water Guardian, who acts a lot like the
mini-Secret Guardian. You can kill him with your regular ole Spear.
Melt another ice block, and kill another Water Guardian. Now comes the
tough part. Remember the Cocoon form of the Magic Guardian? Well, it's
back, and it acts exactly the same as the Ice Guardian. Problem is,
you're fighting them over a whole bottom full of tentacles, just
waiting for you to fall and go back to the beginning of the board.
I used the Ice Crystal to freeze them, and then jumped away very
quickly. Once they start to fill up the screen, you might want to let
one hit you so the rest can leave and you can get your bearings. Once
you reach the other side, take a deep breath, pat yourself on the back,
and get ready for the second half of the level.
Another vertical part just like the last one, except Cocoons
instead of Dragons. There is a hidden Magic Potion on the ninth cloud
up, be sure not to miss it. You should reach the top in no time.
Now this is interesting. You float through space in this part,
and your "thrust" is you attacking with your Spear. I suggest using
the Fire Wand, as it kills the Globules that act like mini-Magic/Ice
Guardians in one hit. You can only thrust left and right, so when
you begin, thrust to the left and you'll start to ricochet. Readjust
when necessary, and when you reach the area with lots of yellow blocks,
keep on pressing the B Button. Constantly thrusting to the left is the
best way to get through this barrier.
Hurray, another vertical part with Ice Guardians. Same thing as
before, except no power-ups :( Just rush through this thing, and get
ready for the FINAL area before the FINAL boss in the FINAL test
(Sigh, it was over so fast...).
In this section, you deal with mini-Fire Guardians, which are the
same things as mini-Secret/Water Guardians. Bah, if you get lucky,
killing them might nab you a Large Heart or Magic Potion. Also, there
are Secret Guardians too, so try to kill a few and hope you get lucky
with a power-up or two. Ready ? Here we go.

FINAL Guardian
+++++++++++++++++++
When the fight begins, he spits out six different monsters. Each
monster is the unique monster from the six stages they were in. Below
are the monsters and strategy:
Bear - One hit from Fire Wand, fight over.
Gremlin - Hit him when his shield is down, then immediately jump
over the dagger he throws at you.
Samurai - Use the Fire Wand, run away a bit, turn, use the Fire Wand
again, he should be defeated.
Green Knight - Death Branch is the easiest way.
Ice Knight - One hit from Fire Wand, fight over.
Pink Knight - Shoot the Death Branch as soon as he comes out of the
energy ball, and pray it hits. If it doesn't, wait for
him to hit you in ball form. Once he does, keep on
hitting him with the regular Spear and he should go
down.
Now that you have defeated all of his champions, now the real
fight begins.
First off, you have two extra Magic Potions, right? RIGHT? Oh
man, is this guy impossible. First off, he does damage by charging
his energy ball that he holds. When it reaches its maximum charge,
it explodes and does a lot of damage to you. You have to destroy the
charge by hitting it. However, the only way to hit it without getting
hit is Dart or Death Branch, and Death Branch is the only one that
does damage. Once you disperse the energy ball, it splits into four
other energy balls of different sizes, depending on what the size of
the energy ball was when you dispersed it. Bigger is worse, so
dispersing it early has an advantage. Once the balls have done their
bouncing thing, the cycle starts over. Also, platforms rise from
the ground, throwing off your aim or helping you hit the boss.
The first strategy is applicable if you have at least two or more
Magic Potions, and a good full set of 10 Hearts or more to start off
with. Rip out Death Branch and shoot the ball when it charges. it does
a whole Heart's worth of damage to him and you, and the balls will do
a bit more. However, with all your extra life, you can withstand it,
and you can beat him just by doing this everytime he charges. This
is the easy way to win, just be careful of the floor platforms which
might throw off your aim.
If you don't have the above, you're looking at a long fight ahead
of you. You need to use Dart first to disperse the energy ball. While
the energy balls bounce around, ride one of the platforms near him and
attack his head to do some damage. You receive damage if you even
touch him, so make sure the platform you choose is not too close. Once
you get the hit in, be sure to fall down to the bottom and use Dart
again. Repeat for a long time, as each Spear thrust only takes half a
Heart away :(
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Congratulations! You just beat Whomp 'Em. Celebrate your own
special way, and enjoy the ending. You earned it.
