1. Overview.

Star Trek: The Next Generation for the Nintendo Entertainment System is the
first video game based on the insanely popular television show of the same name.
The game takes a step away from the action to focus on the command aspect of
life on the Enterprise. You fill the role of Captain Jean Luc Picard as you
attempt to complete a never ending supply of missions to over fifteen planets.
These missions range from simple delivery to full out ship to ship battles.
Along the way you will have to deal with all areas of running the flagship of
the Federation. From the high tech and brain teasing work in Main Engineering
to the small yet important role as Transporter Chief this game lets you dive
straight into the experience. It's just too bad you have hair. :)
This biggest draw this adventure has is that the missions are randomly
generated from a few different information pools. This actually helps match the
feel of the show even though the missions start to run together and get
repetitive after a dozen or so. It's still a novel idea that is pulled off well;
not great but well enough to work. Most of the game is menu driven commands
between the officers on the bridge while the small part that is left is actual
control of the ship which isn't too shabby. All in all this is a solid Star
Trek experience. One that should be played if possible but not worth the time
to track down.
This FAQ\Walkthrough will cover all aspects of this game including crew
descriptions and all aspects of gameplay. While the randomly generated
missions make a level to level descriptions impossible this guide gives you all
the info you need to run the Enterprise like Clockwork. You'll make Admiral in
no time, Captain.

2. Enterprise Crew.

Star Trek: The Next Generation was known for its varied characters; this game
features six of those. Oddly some of the big names are missing, oh well. This
section will give some basic info about the character as well as their duties
in the game.
Jean Luc Picard
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
D.O.B.: July 13th 2305
Rank: Captain
Bio: Jean Luc Picard was born on Earth in the area known as France. Graduated
top of his class from Starfleet Academy after previously failing an entrance
exam. Young and brash until a near fatal wound caused him to gain a new outlook
on life, his first command came when the Captain of his current billet was
killed. Picard commanded the U.S.S. Stargazer for near 22 years until it was
destroyed in a battle during first contact with the Ferengi. Picard was later
given command of the first from largest and newest class of ship, U.S.S
Enterprise-D. This was the fourth ship to bear the name Enterprise and she
served as the United Federation of Planets and Starfleet flagship which lead
the way for many diplomatic and important missions in her life as well as many
dangerous ones including hidden politics with the Romulans and a bloody battle
with the Borg. Picard is a man that can always be counted on to do the right
thing with a steady grasp of right and wrong.
Info: Jean Luc Picard is the current Commander of the U.S.S Enterprise. His
role in the game serves to tell you the current mission and when you accomplish
or fail the current mission. After which he will tell you your current rank and
the password for that rank.
William T. Riker

D.O.B.: August 19th 2335
Rank: Commander
Bio: Born in the area known as Alaska on the planet Earth. Graduated from
Starfleet Academy number eight in his class then immediately was posted to the
starship U.S.S. Pegasus. From there he moved on to the U.S.S. Potemkin then to
the U.S.S. Hood where he served as First Officer before his move to the new
flagship Enterprise where he filled the role of First Officer. His time on the
Enterprise has seen many life altering moments including an old love, major
loss and the start of many life long friendships. Notable moments include his
time as an exchange officer on a Klingon ship, his discovery of an unknown twin
and his first role as an official Captain after the loss of Picard at the hands
of the Borg. Riker is known for his seemingly loose yet stern command style and
his use of many off the wall tactics in combat, both those on the battlefield
and those in the mind.
Info: William T. Riker, for which the T stands for "The Beard", is the First
Officer of the flagship Enterprise under Captain Picard. His role in the game
is to keep track of the current star date and to refresh you on the info for
the current mission.
Geordi La Forge

D.O.B.: February 16th 2335
Rank: Lieutenant Commander
Bio: Born on Earth in the Africa area and suffered from a birth defect that
left him blind. Was given the gift of sight at age six when he received a tool
known as a VISOR; this allowed him to see in many more optic ranges then humans
normally could. Wanting to follow in the family tradition, his mother was a
Captain and his father a Commander, Geordi attended Starfleet Academy and was
posted as a shuttle pilot on a small course near Jupiter. At this first
assignment he meets a man that would later become his Captain aboard the
Enterprise. Began his career on the Enterprise as a helm officer before being
promoted to the position of Chief Engineer. Geordi is best friends with LtCmdr.
Data who he serves as a Doctor of sorts.
Info: Geordi La Forge is the Chief Engineer of the U.S.S. Enterprise. Through
him you can attempt to boost system power or set repair schedules. He'll also
inform you when certain aspects of the ship are damaged, when repairs are done
and the current status of repairs.
Data

D.O.A.: February 2nd 2338
Rank: Lieutenant Commander
Bio: Data is one of multiple androids designed by Dr. Noonien Soong, a some
what absent minded and reclusive scientist. His emotionless state is the
product of a deemed malfunction with Datas predecessor and brother Lore who was
deactivated by Dr. Soong out of fear for the colonist where he made residence
known as Omicron Theata.
Info: Data is the android Second Officer and the Ops officer of the U.S.S.
Enterprise. With Data you can set the ships course and speed as well, use the
scanners as well as put the Enterprise in orbit of any planet. Data will also
tell you when there are ships nearby your current location. Data is shut down
after his maker noticed certain difficulties. Sometime later a lifeform known
as the Crystalline Entity attacked the colony the Doctor and his wife fled
leaving Data behind who then discovered and re-activated by the Starfleet crew
of the ship Tripoli. From here the android we know as Data began to form
starting with his admission and graduation from Starfleet Academy and his
posting as Ops officer on the U.S.S. Enterprise.
Worf
~~~~
D.O.B.: December 9th 2340
Rank: Lieutenant
Bio: Worf was an orphan after a brutal battle between the Romulans and
Klingons. Raised on Gault and Earth by adoptive human parents Worf strived to
be a complete Klingon even going so far as to insist on Klingon food all the
time much to the dismay of his Mother. Wanting to give back to the people who
rescued him and saved his life Worf joined Starfleet Academy and graduated well
above most others. Worf first served as Conn. Officers aboard the U.S.S
Enterprise before being promoted to Chief of Security and Tactical officer
after the death of Lt. Tasha Yar. Worf was the first Klingon to enter Starfleet
which following a long war between the United Federation of Planets and the
Klingon Empire was a very big step in the peace.
Info: Lt. Worf is the Tactical Officer of the U.S.S. Enterprise having gained
the positions following the death of a fellow crew member Lt. Yar. Worf is in
charge of the shields and weapons. He'll warn you when either is being damaged.
Miles O'Brien

D.O.B.: September 2nd, 2328
Rank: Chief Petty Officer
Bio: Had first joined the Academy to become an officer but later left to enlist
in Starfleet. First served aboard the U.S.S. Rutledge under Captain Maxwell
where a long lasting distrust for Cardassians was formed after a skirmish that
forced him to take a life. Was later posted as Transporter Chief aboard the new
flagship Enterprise under Captain Picard. Here he meet and married his wife
Keiko. Miles is a proud Irish man that always gives his best and rarely fails.
Been present at many important moments in the Enterprises history including the
rescue of Picard from the Borg. While he may not be a fellow officer he has
time and time again proven his worth to Starfleet and his crew.
Info: Chief O'Brien is the main transporter technician of the U.S.S Enterprise.
Using this crew member you can transport items from other ships and planets,
beam crew members and dignitaries to planets or ships. Can also detect and beam
intruders off the Enterprise.

3. Controls and Gameplay mechanics.

Controls for this game are cluttered at first but can be learned well enough.
The majority of this game is menu driven so it's not that hard to get confused
but in the heat of battle in Pilot mode it can be easy to get confuzzled!
Command Controls
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
D-Pad: Selects main menu commands. Moves attention between bridge officers;
chooses different abilities under them. Up and Down controls forward momentum
of the Enterprise.
[A]: Makes confirmations on all menus. Switch between targets on scanners.
[B]: Used to ask bridge officers for advice or info.
Start: Pause the game when you aren't piloting the Enterprise.
Select: Used to switch between Command and Pilot Controls.
Pilots Controls
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
D-pad: Controls the movement of the Enterprise on the X and Y axis.
[A]: Shoots phasers when weapons are armed.
[B]: Shoots proton torpedoes when weapons are armed.
Start: Toggle between scanners and main viewer.
Select: Used to switch between Command and Pilot Controls.
Gameplay Mechanics

Missions
~~~~~~~~
Missions in this game are made up of a random set of information. This equation
shows what is meant in math form. We all love math!
A = location
B = scenarios
C = Time limit(based on rank)
D = Mission
So it looks like this A + B + C = D. Get it? So you might go to planet*blank*
to do *blank* and it must be done with in *blank* amount of time. Easy enough
in principle right? What do you mean no? Bah, bite me. You beat a mission and
your rank will increase which means harder missions. Once you reach Captain the
game will continue indefinitely at that level unless of course you drop a rank
through losing missions.
Locations
~~~~~~~~~
These locations don't exactly look like they should but hey, it's an 8bit game
right?
Earth: the Federation homeworld. You know this place, you live there. Never
expect to see any enemies here. Appears like green land on a blue see.
Vulcan: The homeworld of the Vulcans. Purple land with blue water.
Risa: This is a known tropical, tourist attraction to many other planets. Green
land with blue water.
Altair VI: Another known tourist attraction. Yellow land with brown water.
Rigel III: Third planet of the Rigel system(duh). Red land with green seas.
Krios: A planet at war with a neighbor over a myth that a brother stole the
women of another. Purple land with blue water.
Penthara: Federation colony. Green land with blue seas.
Kataan: A planet completely devoid of life. Yellow land with brown water.
Melona IV: Colony set up by the Enterprise-D that was later wiped out by the
Crystalline Entity; the same that attacked Omicron Theata. Yellow land with
brown water.
Amanugi: Not much is known about this planet. Purple land with blue water.
Tarsus IV: Home of a Federation colony that was almost wiped out by a fungus.
Green land with blue seas.
Lysia: homeworld of an alliance involved in a long war. Members almost tricked
the Enterprise into wiping out their enemies for them. Red land with green
water.
Iconia: No, not the GameFAQs board. This is the former homeworld of a lost
race that is located in the neutral zone with the Romulans. Red land with green
water.
Crystalia: Not much info on this planet. Purple land with blue water.
Bajor: Homeworld of the Bajorans. Famed for the Bajoran Wormhole nearby. Green
land with blue seas.
Angosia: Planet that was using war vets as super soldiers against their will
then treating them as criminals. Yellow land with brown water.
Possible Scenarios
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
While the missions are randomly generated here are the possible scenarios you
may encounter at any of the sixteen locations.
Delivery: A diplomat or a delivery of product may need to go to a certain
planet by a certain stardate. Head to the planet, get into orbit or close to
the ship and use the transporters to beam the person or item down to the planet
or ship.
Pick up: Same as delivery....just backwards! Head to the desired location, pick
up the item or person in question then take it to the desired location.
Delivery and Pick up: A combination of the two above. Common place.
Evacuation: Sometimes a planet or ship may need to be evacuated due to some
pending danger. You'll need to get the Enterprise close enough to use the
transporter then start beaming up the people starting with the one highest in
the queue. The people are usually panicking so you will have to keep the target
above them while they are moving around. Keep the power gauge in mind; try
having La Forge boost this power to that system if you have time.
Attacking Ship(s): A planet or ship may come in contact with someone or
something they shouldn't. Head to the area and give these bastards the Picard
treatment.
Pick up some stolen goods: You may have to travel to another planet to retrieve
stolen goods. Enemy ships are sure to be nearby protecting their loot. When
they are no longer a problem just get into orbit and beam the goods in mind
back up to the Enterprise.
Damage ship then collect: The ships you may attack or those who attack you
might have something or someone that needs to be beamed off to the Enterprise.
To do this you need to damage the ship enough for O'Brien to use the
transporter. Just stick with phaser shots until the scanners read the ship as
having major damage. From there it's a simple beam up...
Ranks
~~~~~
The more missions you beat the higher your rank goes which equals hard missions.
With a higher rank expect shorter mission times with more missions leading
towards those with enemies. Passwords are available that skips you to a certain
rank.
Ranks are Ensign->Lieutenant J.G.->Lieutenant->Lieutenant Commander->Commander-
>Captain
Star Trek: The Next Generation is comprised of two main categories of gameplay.
There is the menu driven and somewhat tactical Command mode and there is the
more action orientated Pilot mode. Your abilities while in command of the U.S.S.
Enterprise differ between which mode you are currently in. Different situations
require a different set of commands and movements. This section will go over
all those abilities in each of the modes so you can better make those command
decisions.

Command Mode
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Your tenure in command of the Enterprise will be contained mostly in this mode.
From here you can issue orders to all the bridge crew. Let's look at the
abilities each offers you as well as how to use them.
Lt. Worf
~~~~~~~~
Raise or lower shields: should only be done when the Enterprise is in danger.
Shields will absorb some damage from enemy ships until they collapse at which
point the ship will be unguarded. Shields can be boosted with the help of
LtCmdr. La Forge. Keep in mine that nothing can be beamed aboard while the
shields are up.
Arm Weapons: This command will ready the phasers and proton torpeadoes. Both
can be damaged in battle and will require repair. Phasers can also be boosted
with the help of LtCmdr. La Forge.
Lt. Worf will tell you when the shields or weapons are failing.
LtCmdr. Data
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Course: Set the Enterprise on course to any of these sixteen planets at Warp 1
through 9: Earth, Vulcan, Risa, Altair VI, Rigel III, Krios, Penthara, Kataan,
Melona IV, Amanugi, Tarsus IV, Lysia, Iconia, Crystalia, Bajor and Angosia. A
faster warp will get you there quicker but put more strain on the ship and use
more energy that might be needed for other things that may arise so keep that
in mind.
Scanners: Can be used to scan the Enterprise, any nearby ships or locations for
current damage level. Scanners have six different magnitudes that can be used
depending on the current level of damage the scanners may have. Switch between
targets with the [A] button.
Orbit: Use this to put the Enterprise in orbit with the nearby planet; this is
for when you have people or products to deliver or pick up. TO initiate orbit
you must be somewhat close to the planet at the time. To get a successful orbit
you want to maneuver the Enterprise through the alternating green and blue
squares that appear on the main viewscreen. Try and stay in the middle
otherwise you may fail to get into orbit. Breaking orbit is as simple as
telling Data to do it.
LtCmdr. La Forge
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Power boost: Using this ability you can have LtCmdr. La Forge attempt to boost
phasers, shields or transporter power. A successful boost to phasers will
increase the fire time and damage, a successful boost to shields will increase
how much damage they can take before collapse and a successful boost to
transporters will increase how fast they can beam things like intruders or
products.
To boost a system you need to maneuver the electricity coming down the circuit
by controlling the points. Follow the lines and change the points between X's
and O's to get the electricity to the system you want at the end. [P]hasers,
[T]ransporter or [S]hields.
Repairs: Use this ability to direct the Engineering team to a different set of
repairs that may be needed. LtCmdr. La Forge will automatically pick the most
needed one as he sees it but feel free to override him. Make sure to pay
attention to the bridge officers as they will tell you wait is in need of
attention.
La Forge will also tell you when anything is in need of repair and when repairs
are done.
Chief O'Brien
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Beam Up: The Enterprise must be in orbit or close enough to another ship before
O'Brien can attempt to beam anything up to the ship. To get a successful beam
up you have to use the transporter to find the correct item in the queue. To
the left will be a small readout that tells you the current level of the lock
which means how close you are to the next item in need of being beamed. Below
this will be the current power level of the transporter; this regulates how
much and how fast you can beam things and it can be boosted with LtCmdr. La
Forges help.
So just find the next item or person and if you have enough power hold [A]
while you have a good lock to beam up. Easy huh?
Beam Down: Pretty much nothing to do but tell O'Brien to beam down the person
or product in question.
Intruder: In battle enemies may beam over to the Enterprise and start wrecking
havoc on the ship from the inside out. Use this to beam these bastards back
into space. Unlock regular beaming the shields can remain up while you track
them down and beam them off which is done the same way as any other person or
product. Only one deck can be done at a time so if the intruder alert remains
then come back into the transporter field to find the rest.
Commander Riker
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This bearded bastard does nothing but remind you of the current stardate and
the stardate you need to finish by as well as the basic info for the mission.
He will chime up when you are running out of time for the current mission.

Pilot Mode
~~~~~~~~~~
This mode is used when the Enterprise needs to move close to another planet or
ship for the purpose of beaming anything back or forth. It's also used when
enemy ships are in the area and are attacking.
Weapons
~~~~~~~
Phasers: Phasers can be fired with the [A] button in a short burst per shot. If
you successfully have LtCmdr. La Forge boost the power then the burst will last
longer and cause more damage. Like any system the phasers can be knocked out of
commissions leaving the Enterprise in a tight spot. Best use of the phaser
banks are in concentrated shots between proton torpedoes.
Proton Torpedoes: Stronger then the phaser banks but much harder to use. They
fire in a quick single, small shot. Best used when you are up close to the
target and in between phaser shots. Like any other system the proton torpedoes
can be damaged and knocked out so be warned.

Tips
~~~~
- Don't be afraid to run a little if you have the time.
- Use phaser bursts in between proton torpedoes.
- Try not to engage multiple enemies in groups.
- Keep your eye on the clock. It's the one with the beard.
- Boost any system you may need to rely on for that particular mission whether
it be the shields, phasers or transporters.
