Space Shadow is a first-person shooting game which makes use of a specially
designed Zapper gun by Bandai, called the Hyper Shot. The game comes packaged
with this peripheral. Anyway, this is your typical light gun game, where you
shoot at enemies on the screen, move forward when they are gone, and repeat.
The game is very straightforward with its five stages, but it becomes very
repetitive quickly, since every stage is the same and the enemies are exactly
the same. The only changes you see are differently colored enemy sprites. You
have two weapons at your disposal in this game, but the unfortunate part is
that if you somehow run out of ammunition (which is quite possible), the game
is over, even if you were doing well. Overall, it is a poorly designed game,
which is a shame since the new peripheral designed for use with it had a lot
of potential. I would only recommend trying to this game if you are that
desperately interested in light gun games, otherwise stay away.

General Gameplay
================

As you are probably aware, this game came packaged with a special peripheral
just for it: the Bandai Hyper Shot. It is a modified Zapper, fashioned to be
a machine gun which allows for continuous fire by holding the trigger. There
are a total of five stages to get through, each with its own boss. Once you
get through those stages, you will face a much larger final boss.

You will have two different weapons at your disposal, however there is a
major flaw with this system: the weapons are FINITE. It means that while you
will be slightly replenished as you progress, it is very much possible to run
out of ammunition. If that happens, it's game over for you, and you will have
to actually reset the game to try again. That being said, a major theme in
this game is conservation so that you can actually make it to the end of the
game! This may seem hard (believe me it is, many of these bosses take way too
many hits to go down), but it is possible. Try not to shoot unless necessary,
and aim well to make the most efficient use of your weaponry.

The gameplay screen is quite simple, and as you know, you are playing in the
first-person perspective. On the bottom section of the screen, you will see a
timer, a health bar, and your current ammunition/Grenade supply. You only
take damage if an enemy's bomb/missile attack hits you. The timer slowly
counts down as you progress through the game, much in the same fashion as the
bullet count trickles down as you use the Machine Gun. If the timer runs
down, you run out of health, or you run out of your primary ammunition, the
game is over and you have to start from the beginning. Other than that, there
isn't really much to say about how the game is played.

Stages/Enemies
==============

In this game, you go through long corridors fighting enemies. There are five
levels of corridors, each with 12 stops along the way, followed by a boss
battle in a different room at the end. Each time you stop, an enemy will come
out of one of the holes in the walls or ceiling and move around the area,
either in a straight back and forth pattern, or jumping around. The enemies
vary from worms, aliens, robots, and even a floating brain. The bosses are
generally larger versions of the worm/alien enemies (and even have the same
occasional attacks, too). The final boss is the only exception, in that its
vulnerable spot appears to move around (it looks like a heart, you will
certainly notice it moving, so aim for it).

Aside from moving around, enemies will sometimes attack in one of two ways.
The enemy can lob a bomb in your direction (which you will see as an orange
object moving upward and then downward as it approaches). The enemy can also
shoot a missile of sorts, which appears over their head appearing as a
circular object of sorts. You can shoot at these projectiles to destroy them,
but if they manage to get past, you will lose a couple of ticks from your
health bar.

Once you kill the enemy at your current stop, it will drop an item for you.
These items are either additional bullets for your machine gun, a Grenade, or
a Life Potion. The Life Potion has two varieties: full (recovers a lot of
health) or empty (recovers only one tick on your meter). You have to shoot
the items to collect them. There is an occasional "A" icon that appears when
you kill certain enemies, but it appears to have no purpose at this time.
After you collect your spoils, press Up to continue to the next stop on your
journey.

Weapons
=======

Machine Gun: This is your standard weapon, used by simply pulling the main
            trigger on your Hyper Shot and holding it. It uses bullets,
            which slowly deplete as you shoot. You start off with 80 units
            of ammunition (this does NOT mean you have 80 bullets, don't
            worry), and most enemies drop an additional unit for you to pick
            up. It is also your primary offensive weapon used against
            everything you will face in this game.

Grenade: As you may expect, you can use grenades as your secondary weapons,
        by using the other trigger on the Hyper Shot. Grenades are lobbed at
        the enemy, and after a couple seconds explode to cause damage. It is
        a more powerful attack than your standard Machine Gun, but your
        supply of Grenades is quite limited throughout the game. You do not
        have to aim the crosshairs at the enemy for the blast to hit it.
