This guide is now equipped with a Find Feature. Whenever you want to find
something specific within this guide, use the mouse to highlight the
corresponding text in the Table of Contents. Next, press both the Control

= Section 03 -- Game Basics =

While there is not much of a story, the manual that comes packaged with the
game does provide what little story there is.
"Snake Rattle 'N' Roll takes you into the fun filled world of two of the
hippest snakes around --- Rattle and Roll! You must work your way through
eleven levels of wacky landscapes and wild enemies. In each level, you need
to consume enough Nibbley Pibbleys to activate the scale that will open the
door to the next area. Good Luck!"

Since this is a Nintendo game, the basic Nintendo controller must be used in
order for this game to work correctly. The buttons, as well as what they
do, are as follows:
Directional Pad - Moves the snake on screen. Be careful, however, because
due to the isometric nature of the game, the controls will
not line up exactly. This means the snake will not move
directly left when the Directional Pad is pressed left.
A Button - Makes the snake jump.
B Button - Flicks out the snake's tongue.
- Makes the snake swim against a water current.
- Opens a lid that the snake is on, releasing its contents.
START Button - Begins the game.
- Pauses the game during game play.
SELECT Button - Not used in Snake Rattle 'N' Roll.

- Section 03.02 -- Object of the Game -

The object of each stage is to eat as many Nibbley Pibbleys as you can and
make it to the exit. Move your snake using the Control Pad and eat the
Nibbley Pibbleys by hitting them with your tongue. To progress to the next
level, your snake must be a certain length. When you eat a Nibbley Pibbley,
your length increases by a certain unit value, depending on which color of
Nibbley Pibbley was consumed. The point values are as follows:

each snake when four (4) units worth of Nibbley Pibbleys are eaten.***
Throughout the levels, the player will find Nibbley Pibbley dispensers.
These dispensers shoot out Nibbley Pibbleys for the player to consume.
However, the dispensers will occasionally shoot out bombs, so be careful
when you go to eat something.
When the player is hit by an enemy, the player's snake will lose one body
segment. If the player gets hit by an enemy when out of body segments, the
player will lose one life.

Exiting a Level
---------------
Completing a level in Snake Rattle 'N' Roll is truly unique. The player must
eat enough Nibbley Pibbleys throughout the level until its tail segment
starts to flash. When the tail is flashing, the player must move the snake
onto a scale that is located in the level. If the snake is long enough, he
must move onto the scale, which will cause a bell to ring and the exit door
to open. Once opened, the exit door will remain open for the duration of the
level.
When the player decides to exit a level, they lose all tail segments as well
as all tongue extensions. However, the player does receive a 5,000 point
bonus for clearing the level, as well as 1,000 points for each segment
and/or tongue extension lost. (In a two player game, only the first snake
through the exit door will receive the 5,000 point bonus. However, both
snakes will still receive the bonuses for tail segments and tongue
extensions.)
At the Level Completion screen, yet another bonus will be awarded to the
player. This bonus is based on the number of Nibbley Pibbleys of each color
that the player consumed in the level. Each Nibbley Pibbley consumed of the
snake's opposing color is worth 100 points. Each Nibbley Pibbley consumed
that shares the snake's color is worth 200 points. Each Nibbley Pibbley
consumed that is Yellow gives the player a 300 point bonus.

Losing a Snake
--------------
In Snake Rattle 'N' Roll, the player begins with three lives. The number of
snakes remaining is indicated by the number in the bottom left hand corner
of the screen, just above the snake head. This number can be increased by
finding Extra Snakes in the levels. During the course of the game, the
player will lose a snake. I guarantee it. However, there are only five ways
in which a snake can die. They are:
1) An enemy hits a snake with no tail segments remaining.
2) The snake falls too far. (Four blocks, vertically, is "too far.")
3) The timer at the bottom of the screen reaches zero.
4) The snake lands on a sharp object.
5) The snake is squashed by a falling object.
If the player can stay away from these situations, the game will be a lot
more manageable. However, it isn't as easy as it seems. If the player loses
all of his remaining snakes, the game is over. Luckily, the player begins
the game with two continues. Additional continues can be found throughout
the levels.
In Snake Rattle 'N' Roll, the player attempts to climb a mountainside in
order to reach the moon. Why the snakes want to reach the moon isn't really
understood. In order to reach their goal, however, they must battle through
ten levels of intense action, and then an end game sequence to defeat the
final boss. This walkthrough will split each level into its own section,
with the end game sequence occupying the final spot in the walkthrough.
In each level, the players must work quickly and efficiently in order to
complete the level in the alotted time so as to not lose any snakes. In each
level, the players are given 99 seconds to complete the level. Some levels
will have the Clock Power-Up, which can increase the amount of time the
players have to make it through the level. Remember that in order to open
the exit door, the players must weight enough on the scale so that a bell
rings.
The players must eat Nibbley Pibbleys to gain tail segments, but that is
described in more detail above. This paragraph is to describe the different
types on Nibbley Pibbleys that the player will encounter. There are seven
different types of Nibbley Pibbleys in Snake Rattle 'N' Roll. What the
different types are and when that type first appears can be found in the
chart below. It should be noted that once a Nibbley Pibbley type appears,
it can be found in all subsequent levels.

- Section 04.01 -- Level One -
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The level begins with the snake exiting a door onto a broad expanse of green
ground, with some water near the bottom of the screen. Straight ahead is a
Tongue Extension. Use five or ten seconds to get used to the controls of
this game, as they tend to confuse people that have only played this game a
couple of times. Get acquainted with the fact that the snake is not going
to move directly left, right, up, or down, but will instead move at about a
forty-five degree rotation of that.
After the controls feel a little more natural, move forward to pick up the
Tongue Extension. Move down to the lower platform and hit the Record with
a tongue attack. One hit with the tongue is all the Record can take. After
diposing of the Record, continue moving to the right. The player should
notice two lids of some sort on the ground. Move the snake so that it is
sitting directly on the lid to the left, and press the B Button. The lid
will fly up, revealing a blue Pibball.
Gobble up the blue Pibball, and then move over to the next lid. Again, press
the B Button while directly above the lid. This lid will also fly up,
revealing a red Pibball. Go ahead and consume this Pibball as well before
moving to the right. To the right is another Record. Use the tongue attack
to destroy the Record, and then continue moving to the right.
Jump down onto the water, but be careful not to stay in the water too long.
If the player is in the water too long, a Shark will come and attempt to
harm the player. On the westernmost tip of the second island, there is
another Tongue Extension. Pick up the Tongue Extension, and then move ever
so slightly to the right, so that the Nibbley Pibbley dispenser is right in
the middle of the viewing area.
There are two more lids in this area, so get directly above the lids and
press the B Button to reveal what they are hiding. The lid to the left
conceals a yellow Pibball. Grab the yellow Pibball, and then do the same to
the lid to the right. Under this lid, there is another yellow Pibball.
Grab this yellow Pibball as well, and consume any other Pibballs that may
have popped out of the dispenser.
Moving to the right, the player will notice a little one block island with
a lid on it. Jump over to the island and press the B Button to reveal what
is under the lid. Surprise, surprise! This time, a Bonus level is under
the lid. Bonus levels are special sections of a level where five Nibbley
Pibbleys are thrown out of a dispenser. If the player can grab all five
Nibbley Pibbleys before they make their way back into the dispenser, the
player will be awarded with 5,000 bonus points.
If the player decides to forego the Bonus level, he will have to dispose of
another Record. Just use the tongue attack one time, and the Record will
disappear. The player should also notice the lonely lid over to the right.
Beware of this lid! When the player approaches this lid, a Big Foot will
jump out of the lid. The Big Foot can be defeated with several tongue
attacks, and is definitely the level's most dangerous enemy.
Continuing to the right, the player will find yet another Record that needs
to be taken care of, so dispose of the Record with a tongue attack. The
player will also find another Nibbley Pibbley dispenser. Collect Nibbley
Pibbleys until the snake's tail begins to flash. There is another lid to
the right, and it is concealing a yellow Nibbley Pibbley. There is one more
Record that should be taken care of, so use the snake's tongue attack once
more to dispose of the final enemy in Level One.
There are two more lids in Level One that the player can open. The lid to
the far right contains a red Nibbley Pibbley, while the bottom lid contains
a yellow Nibbley Pibbley. After obtaining all necessary Nibbley Pibbleys,
jump up onto the scale. The bell will ring, and the door to the exit will
open. Enter the exit door to complete the level. After exiting the level,
the player will receive this message:
There are actually three ways that the player can complete Level One. The
first, and most common way, is described above. The other two are not as
well known as the most common route, and both warp the player to a level
that would normally not be accessible. The first alternate route allows the
player to warp to Level Three, while the second alternate route allows the
player to warp to Level Eight.

Warp to Level Three
-------------------
The warp to Level Three can be found by moving to the right when the level
begins. After obtaining any Nibbley Pibbleys and disposing of the Record,
there will be an island in the middle of the water with nothing on it.
Move the snake so that it is on that island. When the player presses the
B Button while on this island, the player will be warped ahead to Level
Three.

Warp to Level Eight
-------------------
This warp is a little more difficult to perform, and it is a warp that I
personally advise against doing. There will be a remarkable increase in
difficulty if the player moves directly to Level Eight from Level One.
However, if the player wishes to advance directly to Level Eight, here is
how it can be done.
When the level begins, immediately move to the right as fast as possible.
Ignore all Nibbley Pibbleys, ignore all enemies, and ignore all Power-Ups.
Continue moving to the right as fast as possible until the end of the
level draws near. When the player reaches the end of the level, a rocket
will be waiting. If the player can jump into that rocket before it takes
off, he will be instantly warped to Level Eight, thereby skipping a vast
majority of the game.
However, this entire process of traveling from the beginning of the level
to the end of the level must be done in no more than eight seconds of game
time. If the player takes any more time, the rocket will have already
departed, and the player will be forced to complete the level another way.
This alternate route is by far the hardest to accomplish, and is really
not recommended. You are still welcome to try, though.

- Section 04.02 -- Level Two -
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As Level Two begins, the player is thrown out of a door, right on top of a
lid. Use the B Button to open the lid and to reveal a red pibbleboing.
There is another lid almost directly to the right of the first lid. Place
the snake directly on top of the second lid and use to B Button to reveal a
blue pibbleboing. From the two lids, move up and to the right and go up two
steps, so that the snake is just above the Mushroom. Jump on top of the
Mushroom to defeat the Mushroom.
As the player moves to the right, he will notice that another Mushroom is
coming towards the player, on the level below. Wait for the Mushroom to be
directly underneath the snake, and then move the snake so that it hits the
Mushroom. After the Mushroom is taken care of, use the B Button to reveal
what is underneath the lids. The first lid is concealing a yellow
pibbleboing. The next lid will reveal a Diamond, which will make the snake
invincible for a few seconds. A Speed Up power-up is under the third lid.
After obtaining all of the objects under the lids, jump over to the little
island and pick up the Tongue Extension.
After picking up the Tongue Extension, hang around the Nibbley Pibbley
dispenser and pick up a few pibbleboings. Once the snake's tail is flashing,
continue to the right. As the player moves to the right, there are two
levels. The raised platform has a Nibbley Pibbley dispenser and a lid.
Underneath this lid is a Krazy Seat, so be careful. Defeat the Krazy Seat
either by jumping on it or by using the tongue attack. On the lower level is
a single lid. This lid is concealing a Speed Up power-up. Grab the Speed Up
and then move to the right, where three more lids appear, as well as a
Mushroom enemy.
First, destroy the Mushroom with the tongue attack, and then open the only
lid not on its own island. Underneath this lid, the player will find a
yellow pibbleboing. To the right of this lid is another lid with its own
island. Jump over to the island and open the lid. This lid is concealing a
Clock, so pick it up to gain twenty-five seconds. Finally, jump over to the
lid on the other island. Open this lid to reveal the second Bonus Level.
Again, this Bonus Level will give the player an opportunity to score bonus
points while extending the snake's tail at the same time. Five Nibbley
Pibbleys will be thrown out of the dispenser. If the player can grab all
five Nibbley Pibbleys before they make their way back to the dispenser, the
player will be rewarded with 5,000 bonus points.
After the Bonus Level, continue moving to the right to get a taste of the
platform puzzles to be seen later in the game. Jump up the series of ledges,
being careful not to fall into the water. Ordinarily, water is okay, but
this water has a current and will force the player offof the ledges if he is
not careful. Grab the diamond near the cliff and then jump over to the "L"
shaped island platform. From there, jump over to the big platform to the
right, but be careful. Underneath the lid is a Big Foot, so destroy it with
the tongue attack as soon as possible, or just ignore the Big Foot and move
on with the level.
After dealing with the Big Foot, jump up to the next platform. From this
platform, jump up to the little island platform between the waterfalls. From
the island platform, jump to the spot just in front of the Mushroom. Defeat
the Mushroom and jump onto the scale, which will open the exit door. After
opening the exit door, move the snake so that it is right up against the
waterfall and then jump to the light colored island platform that is between
the waterfalls.
From this island platform, jump up and to the right, over the rushing water
from the waterfall. Jump up two more ledges and follow the "M" shaped
platform over and around to just above the exit door. Just in front of the
exit door is a Mushroom. Wait for the Mushroom to be just underneath the
platform, and then move the snake onto the Mushroom to perform a jump
attack. After disposing of the Mushroom, move the snake through the exit
door to complete the level. Once the level is completed, the player will
receive this message:
"BRILLIANT Level Two Completed"

- Section 04.03 -- Level Three -
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Level Three begins with the snake on the highest platform. Below, the player
will see a lonely lid, so fall onto the lid and open it using the B Button.
Inside the lid, the player will find a Bonus Level. This Bonus Level has the
same principle as the others in that it is a great opportunity for players
to score some bonus points while extending the snake's tail. As per usual,
five Nibbley Pibbleys will be thrown out of the dispenser. If the player
can grab all five Nibbley Pibbleys before they make their way back to the
dispenser, the player will be awarded 5,000 bonus points.
After the Bonus Level, jump over to the strip of land between the two
waterfalls, being mindful of the Krazy Seat. Jump over the water and move to
the left. Here, the player will find four lids, a Krazy Seat, and an Extra
Continue. Use the tongue attack to dispose of the Krazy Seat, and then pick
up the Extra Continue. You will definitely need it for later, trust me.
Now, open the four lids. The bottom two lids are both concealing yellow
pibblejoggers, so grab those as they appear. The top left lid will reveal a
red pibblejogger, and inside the top right lid, the player will find a blue
pibblejogger.
After grabbing all of the pibblejoggers, move down the descending platforms
that can be found to the right of the spikes. On the second platform from
the bottom is a Krazy Seat, so dispose of it with either the jump attack or
the tongue attack. Continue to the left and drop straight down to the bottom
platform. Jump over the Reverse power-up and move over to pick up the
Diamond power-up. The Diamond will make the snake invincible for a little
while, so jump over the gap and rush past the three Bladez.
After the Bladez, the player will find four more lids, two Nibbley Pibbley
dispensers, and a Krazy Seat. Defeat the Krazy Seat with the tongue attack
and open the lid closest to the Bladez. Inside, the player will find a
Speed Up power-up. Next, open the lid that the Krazy Seat was circling, but
be careful, because inside is another Krazy Seat. Defeat this Krazy Seat as
well and ignore the other two lids. One of the other two lids is a Clock,
and the other is the warp to Level Five. Both of those lids will be
discussed in more detail below.
Continuing to the left, the player will find another series of descending
platforms. First, however, move onto the lone lid that is situated just
above the spikes near the bottom of the screen. Inside is a second Bonus
Level. This Bonus Level is identical to the other Bonus Level in this level,
so the same strategy and rewards still apply. Five Nibbley Pibbleys will be
thrown out of the dispenser. If the player can manage to collect all five
Nibbley Pibbleys before they make their way back to the dispenser, the
player will be rewarded with 5,000 bonus points.
After the second Bonus Level, jump back over to the left. On the second
ledge from the bottom, there are two lids. Inside the lid on the left is a
Krazy Seat, so be prepared to defeat it as soon as it jumps out. The lid on
the right is concealing a yellow pibblejogger. On the bottom platform, the
player will find two more lids, guarded by a Krazy Seat. Defeat this Krazy
Seat and open the lids. The lid on the left is concealing a yellow
pibblejogger, while the lid on the right will reveal a Diamond power-up.
Pick up the Diamond power-up and then ride the water's current over to the
"M" shaped platform.
Once safely on the platform, jump over to the scale, but watch out for the
Big Foot that jumps out of the lid. Move the snake onto the scale, which
will ring and open the exit door. From the scale, move up two ledges, and
then jump over the water and onto the last platform. Move the snake through
the exit door to complete the level. Once the level is complete, the player
will receive this message:
In Level Three, there is a secret passage that will warp the player all the
way to Level Five, thereby skipping Level Four. In order to use the warp,
the player will need a bit of luck, and a lot of skill.

Warp to Level Five
------------------
To warp to Level Five, the player needs to use a lot of precision jumping.
Follow the same strategy provided above until the snake reaches the lids
just after the first set of Bladez. After the Bladez, open the lid that
is closest to the Bladez and pick up the Speed Up power-up. After grabbing
the Speed Up, move onto the platform between the spikes and the Nibbley
Pibbley dispenser on the left.
From this platform, jump over to the lid that is all alone on a ledge.
Inside this lid, the player will find a Clock, which will add twenty-five
seconds to the timer at the bottom of the screen. From this platform, jump
over to the right onto the platform that is just right of the Nibbley
Pibbley dispenser on the right. Finally, jump back over to the left, up
onto the platform so that the snake lands just to the left of the Nibbley
Pibbley dispenser on the right. From there, jump up onto the top platform
and open the lid to reveal a warp to Level Five. This warp is incredibly
difficult to achieve, and I really cannot recommend it. However, the
player is more than welcome to try it.

- Section 04.04 -- Level Four -
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Level Four, in direct contrast to Level Three, begins with the player at the
bottom, and working his way back up to the top. Jump over to the lid and
open it to reveal a Speed Up power-up. Jump up to the next platform and move
to the left. Pick up the Tongue Extension on the way, and then open up the
lid to discover a red pibblesplat. Grab the pibblesplat and jump up two more
platforms to the third lid. Inside this lid, the player will find a fake
Extra Snake. Move the snake out of the way quickly, before the fake Extra
Snake turns into a bomb, which could hurt the snake.
After the bomb explodes, move to the right, to the platform with the Krazy
Seat on it. Destroy the Krazy Seat using either the tongue attack or the
jump attack and then continue to the edge of the platform. Jump straight at
the next lid, over the little gap between the platforms. This lid conceals
a blue pibblesplat. Jump up one platform, and hold this position until the
Krazy Seat on the next platform moves out of the way. Jump up to the next
platform, and destroy the Krazy Seat. Continue to the left, picking up the
Tongue Extension on the way.
From the Tongue Extension, move to the left onto a platform with three lids,
a Nibbley Pibbley dispenser and a Pin Cushion. The Pin Cushion can cause
problems, so quickly destroy it with a single tongue attack. Next, begin
uncovering the lids, picking up any stray pibblesplats along the way. The
lid to the right is concealing a Krazy Seat, so be ready to destroy it when
it pops out. The middle lid will reveal another Krazy Seat, so be ready to
defeat this one, as well. The third lid will open automatically to reveal a
Big Foot. Try to defeat the Big Foot as soon as possible. When all enemies
have been cleared, jump up to the platform and grab the Diamond power-up
before moving to the left.
From the Diamond, jump up onto the next platform, and then jump onto the
small platform just to the left. From there, jump around the corner and over
the spikes onto the lowest ledge on the other side. Finally, jump up two
more lodges to reach a platform with two lids and a Pin Cushion on it.
Again, destroy the Pin Cushion as quickly as possible with a tongue attack,
and then open the lids. The lid on the right is holding another useful
Diamond, while the lid on the left is concealing a yellow pibblesplat.
After grabbing both objects, jump over the water and down to the ledge with
the Tongue Extension. Pick up the Tongue Extension and move to the left. A
Big Foot might try jumping on you around this point, so if the Big Foot
appears, destroy it with a flurry of tongue attacks. Continue to the left
until there is a lid. Inside the lid, the player will find a Speed Up
power-up, but it might actually cause more harm than good in this situation.
After the lid with the Speed Up, jump around the spikes and onto the
platform around the corner. Jump up three ledges until the snake is on a
long stretch of ground again. Move to the right, but jump over the Bladez
that appears just after the spike. Continuing to the right, open the lid to
reveal a fake Extra Snake that turns into a bomb. Jump over the spike and
onto the next ledge. Jump up to the next platform and move to the left,
jumping over both Bladez along the way.
After the Bladez, jump all the way over to the platform with the lid and
open the lid. Inside, the player will find a Bonus Level. As in all Bonus
Levels, the player will be given the opportunity to score some bonus points.
Five Nibbley Pibbleys will be thrown out of the dispenser. If the player can
collect all five Nibbley Pibbleys before they make their way back to the
dispenser, the player will be rewarded with 5,000 bonus points.
After completing the Bonus Level, jump over the spike and around the corner
to the next ledge. From there, jump over a small gap and onto another ledge.
Jump over an identical gap to an identical ledge, and jump over one more gap
to a slightly larger platform with a lid on it. Inside this lid, the player
will find a much needed Clock, so pick it up to gain an additional twenty-
five seconds on the timer at the bottom of the screen.
From the lid, jump around the corner and onto a small ledge. From the ledge,
jump up and onto a long stretch of ground that leads to the scale. Be very
careful when traversing the straightaway, however, because Anvilz will fall
from the sky, in an attempt to squash the snake. Move all the way to the
left and onto the scale. From the scale, move all the way back to the right,
again avoiding the Anvilz falling from the sky. Once on the edge of this
platform, jump over to the exit doors and exit the level. Once the level is
complete, the player will receive this message:
"TERRIFIC Level Four Completed"

- Section 04.05 -- Level Five -

This level begins with the snake on a ledge above the rest of the level.
Move to the right until there is one space between the end of the ledge and
the snake. From here, simply walk onto the flying carpet. When the flying
carpet descends, move off of the flying carpet and onto a platform with a
lid and a large waterfall. Open the lid to reveal a yellow pibblebat. These
things can be quite difficult to catch, so just try to be patient and wait
until it lands before trying to catch it. After obtaining the yellow
pibblebat, move the snake right up against the water, almost directly above
the Tongue Extension. Move out into the water and let the current take the
snake to the Tongue Extension. Cross the remaining water, fighting the
current along the way, until the snake is on a ledge in front of a sea of
spikes.
While on this ledge, move the snake one space away from the right edge of
the ledge and wait for the flying carpet to approach. Jump onto the flying
carpet and ride it across the sea of spikes. Jump from the flying carpet
down to the platform on the other side of the spikes. This platform has a
Nibbley Pibbley dispenser, two lids, and a Reverse power-up. The lid on the
right is concealing a yellow pibblebat, while the lid on the left conceals a
Diamond power-up. Grab the Diamond and move the snake so that it is just in
front of the Reverse power-up. When the flying carpet approaches the upper
platform, jump over the Reverse power-up and onto the flying carpet.
Ride the flying carpet down and get off on the lower platform. This platform
has another Nibbley Pibbley dispenser, three more lids, and a Tongue
Extension. Grab the Tongue Extension and open the lower right hand lid.
Inside this lid, the player will find an Extra Snake. The other two lids
will reveal fake Extra Snakes, but beware of these impostors because they
turn into bombs as they fall to the ground. After obtaining the Extra Snake,
move the snake onto the left edge of the platform, right against the spikes.
From there, jump the snake onto the flying carpet as it approaches. This
jump can be difficult, so do not get discouraged. From the flying carpet,
jump into the Reverse power-up and DO NOT move. Wait until the power-up
wears off before moving along the ledge to the left. As the snake progresses
to the left, jump over both Snakedozers. After the Snakedozers, the player
must make a jump around a corner to a small platform. From there, jump up
two more ledges to a long platform with four lids and another Nibbley
Pibbley dispenser.
Opening the first lid will reveal a Clock, so pick it up to gain an
additional twenty-five seconds to complete the level. The next lid contains
a Speed Up power-up, so grab that and carefully move to the right. I say
carefully because the third lid will automatically open to reveal a Big
Foot. Destroy the Big Foot as quickly as possible with a series of tongue
attacks, and continue to the right. The final lid contains another Clock,
so grab this power-up to add another twenty-five seconds to the game timer
at the bottom of the screen.
If the snake's tail is still too short to activate the scale, try to consume
a few more pibblebats from the last Nibbley Pibbley dispenser. When the
snake's tail begins to flash, jump up onto the ledge above the platform and
move to the left. Jump onto the scale to activate the exit door, and jump
onto the flying carpet as it descends. Ride the flying carpet up, and at the
top, jump over to a small platform situated just above the scale.
From this point, wait for the last flying carpet to approach. Jump on it
when it is right next to the ledge and get ready for a tricky ride. Every
time this flying carpet pauses, it is going to disappear. So, every time
the flying carpet pauses, jump straight into the air. As the snake goes up,
the flying carpet will disappear. However, the flying carpet will reappear
before the snake completes its descent. Once the flying carpet is close
enough to the other side, jump over, being careful to avoid the Reverse
power-up. Once safely on the other side, move the snake through the exit
door to complete the level. When the level is completed, the player will
receive this message:
"MAGIC Level Five Completed"

- Section 04.06 -- Level Six -

Well, congratulations on making it through the easy levels. Easy levels, you
say? Yeah, those levels are nothing compared to these last five levels.
Levels Six, Seven and Eight could be considered the medium levels, while
Levels Nine and Ten could be considered the hard levels. The End Game is
really just a single boss fight, but it is by no means easy. Levels Nine and
Ten are ridiculously hard, so I am sure you will have fun on those. Anyway,
I suppose I should stop talking and get on with the walkthrough for Level
Six.
The later levels, it seems, are very jump oriented. From the starting point,
move the snake to the left and jump up onto the ledge. From here, jump over
the water and onto the other ledge. From this ledge, jump up and over the
second gap, which is twice as large as the first gap, and pick up the Tongue
Extension. To complete the first series of jumps, move the snake over a gap
that is identical to the second gap. This will place the snake on a platform
that consists of a single block.
On the other side of the next gap is a longer ledge with a Bell patrolling
the length of it. Jump over the water gap and then jump on the Bell to
destroy it. The Bell will take three hits before it is defeated. Move to
the left of the platform to find more rushing water, which will require, you
guessed it, more jumps. The first two jumps are identical, in which the
snake has to jump over a single block of water to a platform that is also a
single block. Now the player must make a decision.
Floating on the water in the next gap is a Tongue Extension. The player can
live dangerously and attempt to get the Tongue Extension, or he can play it
safe and jump over the long gap, ignoring the Tongue Extension. I suggest
ignoring the Tongue Extension and simply jumping over the gap to the other
side. From there, jump up onto the next ledge, but be careful and avoid the
Snakedozer. Jump over the Snakedozer and onto the next ledge. From there,
jump up and around the corner to the next ledge. One more jump up to the
next ledge will bring the player just in front of a longer platform.
On this platform is another patrolling Bell. Jump up onto the platform and
jump on the Bell to defeat it. Remember, it will take three jumps before the
Bell is destroyed. The player is now faced with a daunting jump over a long
gap. The snake will rarely make it across all of the water, so when it
lands, be sure to press Up on the Directional Pad to fight the current.
Fight the current until the snake reaches the next platform. This platform
has a Snakedozer on it, so be careful.
Jump over the Snakedozer and the next gap to land on the next ledge. Drop
down to the next ledge and move the snake to the right edge. On the next
platform down, there is a Bell. Jump on the Bell to defeat it, and move to
the right edge of the next platform. From there, jump to the right and up
to the next ledge. This can be a tricky jump to perform, so be careful.
The next ledge up has a Bell on it. The snake can jump onto the upper right
corner of the ledge without getting hit by the Bell, but it can be very
difficult. However, this is the what needs to be done. Once on the ledge,
jump on the Bell to defeat it.
After the Bell, move the snake up to the next ledge. Another Bell sits on
the ledge after this, so follow the same strategy as before. Jump onto the
ledge without getting hit by the Bell and then jump on the Bell to destroy
it. The next ledge is longer, but still has a Bell. Since this Bell is not
stationary, use the tongue attack to defeat it. The tongue attack will be
safer in this case, as it is difficult to remain directly above a moving
object. Move to the left edge of this ledge to discover another jump over
water.
With this jump, the player must be careful to stay on the first space of the
next ledge, or else a Snakedozer will push the snake off of the ledge. Jump
over the Snakedozer and pick up the Tongue Extension. Jump up to the next
ledge and get ready for another long jump. There is a Clock in the middle
of the rushing water, but it would be foolish to even attempt to pick it up.
This is a very difficult jump without making it any harder. Jump as far to
the left as possible and fight the current until the snake reaches the next
platform.
Once over the broad expanse of water, move to the left. There are two
Snakedozers with a Speed Up power-up between them on this ledge. Jump in
between the Snakedozers to grab the Speed Up, and then jump over the second
Snakedozer and continue all the way to the left. Now, this is where Level
Six gets tricky. Move down to the ledge directly below the leftmost part of
the platform, and then jump up onto the ledge directly above that, to the
left.
From there, jump over the waterfall and onto the two-block-wide ledge. Jump
up onto the next platform. Now, the player must make four consecutive
identical jumps from platform to platform over small gaps. After these four
jumps, move the snake onto the ledge over the next gap. This ledge should
be as far left as the player can go. From there, jump up and to the right
onto a small platform. Around this time, Bells will start to fall all over
the place, so watch out. One hit by a falling Bell translates into instant
death for the snake.
From this platform, make five consecutive identical jumps, to the right this
time. These jumps are also all over a single water gap, onto a platform that
is a single block wide. From the last platform, jump up and to the right
onto a ledge. From this ledge, jump up and to the left, onto the top level
of platforms. Continue to look out for the falling Bells. Around this time,
start looking for the Fish Tail power-up. This power-up looks like a yellow
flashing fist tail. Only grab this object if it lands on the top level of
platforms. When it appears, jump over the requisite number of gaps to the
left and pick it up. After obtaining the Fish Tail, continue to the left
until there is no where else to move to the left.
From this ledge, jump directly into the waterfall, and continue to press the
jump button. The Fish Tail power-up allows the snake to climb the waterfall
by using the jump button, so continue to press the jump button to swim all
the way to the top of the waterfall. Once at the top of the waterfall, fight
the current of the water to get to the small platform to the left of the
waterfall. From this ledge, jump up and to the left, onto the ledge with the
Extra Snake. Grab the Extra Snake and jump up to the next ledge. This next
jump can be tricky. Jump around the corner to the right and onto the three
block long ledge.
The most difficult part of Level Six is now over. From now on, most jumps
will require the player to move down and to the right, toward the exit door.
The majority of these jumps will be over a single spike and down to a ledge
that consists of a single block. The first of these jumps are three straight
jumps over a single spike and onto a platform. The next jump is also over a
single spike, but onto a longer platform with a patrolling Bell. Jump down
to the ledge and then destroy the Bell with a series of jump attacks. This
is also where the Big Foot of this level comes into play. Avoid the Big
Foot, and forget about defeating it. Just focus on moving past the Big Foot
safely.
From the Bell patrolled platform, jump over the water and onto the next
platform. Jump over the first spike and onto the next platform. The next
jump is a little more difficult. For this jump, the snake has to go over a
spike, a platform with a Snakedozer, and another spike before landing on a
small platform. Jump over another spike to bring on another very difficult
jump. This jump requires the player to jump over a very long stretch of
water. The snake will not be able to make it all the way across the water,
so be prepared to fight the current to reach the other side.
Once on the platform, watch out for the Snakedozer. Jump over the
Snakedozer, as well as the water, and onto the last ledge of the level. Move
off of this last ledge to the right and fall into the exit door to complete
the level. Once this level has been completed, the player will receive this
message:
Level Seven begins with the player on the left side of a series of jumps
over water. On each of the first two platforms, there is a stationary Metal
Tree. It is above the player on the first platform, but below the player on
the second platform. Jump the first gap so that the second Metal Tree is
below the player. The first Metal Tree will now disappear, and another will
pop up on the next platform, with the opposite orientation of the second
Metal Tree. Jump to the next platform and pick up the Tongue Extension. As
the snake jumps to new platforms, destroy the Metal Trees with a series of
tongue attacks. This will force the next Metal Tree to appear prematurely,
and it makes the jumps a little easier.
Continue to the right in this fashion until a two block wide gap appears.
On the other side of this gap is a platform with a Tongue Extension. Jump
the gap and grab the Tongue Extension. Move as close to the wall as possible
and jump the next gap. Ignore the first Metal Tree, as it is just too
difficult to kill. Instead, jump over the large water gap, avoiding the
second Metal Tree. This Metal Tree can be hard to avoid, but it can be done.
From there, jump over the gap and down, so that the snake is now close to
the edge of the cliff and out of harm's way. Jump over the next small gap
and notice the two stationary Metal Trees on the other side of yet another
gap.
Jump over the gap and over the stationary Metal Trees, but be sure to land
just over the Metal Trees. The first set will disappear and a second set of
Metal Trees will appear, just on the other side of the block in the middle.
Now, jump over the second set of Metal Trees and over the water, ignoring
the Extra Continue. The player can pick up the Extra Continue, but it will
almost always force the player to lose a snake in the process. Over the
water, the player will find a nice big platform with a Clock on it.
Pick up the Clock to gain an additional twenty-five seconds on the timer at
the bottom of the screen. After obtaining the Clock, jump up two ledges to
the next big platform and move to the left, right up to the water's edge.
Jump over the large gap and land on the platform. The next two platforms
have jumping Metal Trees on them. Move the snake to the middle of the
platform and use the tongue attack to destroy the Metal Tree. Jump over to
the platform and use the same tactic on the next Metal Tree. Continue to
defeat the Metal Trees in this way three more times, destroying the Metal
Tree and jumping over to the next platform each time.
After the fifth Metal Tree, jump over to the "L" shaped platform. From
there, jump over to the next platform and watch as a Metal Tree appears.
Move as close to the edge as possible, and jump over to the next platform.
If done correctly, the snake should not get hit by the moving Metal Tree.
Jump over the water, the next platform, and another gap of water to land on
the second platform. Jump over two more small gaps to reach the left edge
of the level.
The player now has to climb two ledges to reach the next area of the level.
However, on the first platform, the player will find a Metal Tree. I have
never been able to get past this Metal Tree without getting hit, so get hit,
and while invincible jump up to the top tier of this section of the level.
The player will now face a gauntlet of sorts, with different colored Beach
Balls that the snake must jump over as he moves to the right. Also, as the
player moves to the right, the color of the Beach Ball changes, as well as
its speed.
After jumping over the first two gaps, the player will begin to see the
slowest of the four colors, the pink Beach Ball. As the snake moves to the
right, watch out for falling Beach Balls. After the pink Beach Balls, the
player will begin to see blue Beach Balls. The blue Beach Balls are just
slightly faster than the pink ones, but should not pose too much of a
problem. Continuing to the right, the player will see yellow Beach Balls
after the blue Beach Balls. The yellow Beach Balls are even faster than the
blue Beach Balls, but they are not the fastest of the Beach Balls. That
title begins to the silver Beach Balls, which the player will find after the
yellow Beach Balls. The silver Beach Balls can be extremely difficult to
get by. Just remember to jump over any Beach Balls that move to the left,
and the player should do just fine.
After the gauntlet of Beach Balls, the player will find a long platform.
Just over the water is a ledge with a Clock on it. Grab the Clock for an
additional twenty-five seconds; you will need it for this level. Jump up
two more ledges, to what appears to be an impossible jump. Use the fountain
of water to shoot the snake up to the next platform. There is a Metal Tree
on the other side of some water on this platform. Destroy the Metal Tree
with the tongue attack, and then jump over the gap. Again, use the fountain
of water to propel the snake up to the next tier. When landing, be careful
and avoid the Ice Foot, as it can be dangerous.
Once on the next level, move all the way to the left, just against the wall.
Jump up two ledges, but stay on the short part of the second "L" shaped
platform, or else the moving Metal Tree will hurt the snake. Ignore the
Metal Tree and jump directly onto the fountain of water. Use the platform
to get to the next platform. Again, move all the way to the left, against
the wall, and jump straight up.
The jump will reveal two hidden Metal Trees. The next two jumps require
precision timing to get through unscathed. Right as the Metal Trees land on
the left side, jump up to the ledge, and then immediately jump up onto the
next ledge. This is incredibly hard to pull off, so do not despair if the
snake gets hit. Again, use the fountain of water to propel the snake up to
the next level. On the next platform, there is another Metal Tree. Ignore
the Metal Tree and drop down to the lower level, right next to the Metal
Tree. The snake should be safe here, so wait for the fountain of water and
use it to get to the next platform.
This platform is nearly identical, except that now the Metal Tree is on the
upper tier of the platform, guarding the fountain of water. Ignore the
Metal Tree and ise the fountain of water to get to the next level. Notice
any sort of recurring theme? Catching the fountains of water is not always
easy, so always be prepared to fight the current if you miss a jump. This
jump will take the snake to the most difficult jump in the level. First,
however, move the snake into position. See the single block platform right
next to the wall? Jump over to that platform, and wait.
Now comes the hard part. From this platform, the player must use the
fountain of water to propel the snake up and to the right, onto the higher
ledge. This is one of the most difficult jumps in the entire game, and is
easily the most difficult jump up to this point. Once successfully
completed, jump up two ledges so that the snake is right in front of a Metal
Tree. Also, avoid the Big Foot that is jumping around. Jump over the Metal
Tree and continue on to the left and through the exit door. Once the level
is completed, the player will receive this message:
Level Eight is unique in that there are absolutely no enemies to worry
about. The only real enemy in this level is the clock, which turns out to
be a real big enemy. I have only ever been able to complete the level once
without the timer running out and losing a snake. Also in Level Eight,
pibblefish make their first, and only, appearance. Due to the game's
irritating isometric view, these pibblefish can be extremely annoying
to catch.
In Level Eight, there is a series of pools that the snake must swim through
to get to the next pool. In each pool, the player will be confronted with
four different colors of pibblefish. The pibblefish all move at different
speeds. Of the standard colors, blue pibblefish are the slowest. Blue is
followed by pink pibblefish, and then the yellow pibblefish. However, there
are also black pibblefish, which are the slowest of the four kinds of
pibblefish. If the player hits a black pibblefish three times with a tongue
attack, it will turn into a yellow pibblefish, which the player can then try
to consume.
When the player enters the first pool, there will be several strands of eggs
attached to the bottom of the pool. These eggs will turn into pibblefish of
a variety of colors. First, grab the Tongue Extension, and then try to eat
as many pibblefish as possible. When the player has eaten enough pibblefish,
the snake's tail will begin to flash, and the pool's exit door will open.
Move the snake through the pool's exit door to leave the first pool.
Upon exiting the first pool, the player will notice that the only other
thing on the platform is another pool. Jump into the second pool and prepare
to repeat the performance of the first pool. In this pool, there is another
Tongue Extension, so pick that up. A longer tongue definitely makes for an
easier level. After eating enough pibblefish, the exit door will open and
the player can exit the second pool.
After leaving the second pool, the player will have to move the snake down
a couple of ledges to a platform with yet another pool. However, before
jumping into the pool, pick up the Clock that is just below the pool to gain
a much needed twenty-five seconds, and then jump into the pool. This pool
has a Speed Up power-up and an Extra Snake near the bottom, so swim down and
pick those up. Repeat the procedure again, and when the snake has eaten
enough pibblefish, the exit door of the third pool will open. Move the snake
through the pool's exit door to leave the pool.
After leaving the third pool, the snake will be on an upper platform with
another pool. However, a Clock is on the level below, so jump down to the
lower level and pick up the Clock to gain an additional twenty-five seconds
to complete the level. After obtaining the Clock, use the fountain of water
to get back up to the upper level, and jump into the fourth and final pool.
There is a third Tongue Extension in this pool, so pick it up for the
maximum tongue length. Continue to eat the pibblefish until the snake's tail
flashes. The exit door will open, and the player can now exit the final
pool. As the player exits the pool, press Up on the Directional Pad. The
last pool will release the player onto a waterfall, and by pressing Up, the
player will eliminate the need to fight the water current. Move the snake
through the exit door to complete the level. When the level is completed,
the player will receive this message:
"INCREDIBLE Level Eight Completed"

- Section 04.09 -- Level Nine -

Well, congratulations on completing the medium difficulty levels. Now,
prepare to face the game's toughest challenge, the hard levels. And by hard,
I mean damn near impossible. Levels Nine and Ten take place on the very
highest parts on the mountain, and as such, are covered in ice. As one can
imagine, ice is not the easiest thing to control a snake on. Not to mention
the sheer impossibility of some of the jumps, but I will get to that as they
come up. Only two levels to go, so get ready for one of the most difficult
gaming sequences on the Nintendo Entertainment System.
Now, in Levels Nine and Ten, there are very few places that the player can
actually stop and rest. I will point out where these places are, but for
the most part, a long series of instructions will be given before a "safe
point" appears. Just a warning. First, move to the right and down two
ledges to pick up a Tongue Extension. Continue to the left, jumping over a
rolling ball of ice, so that the ball of ice does not hit the snake. Drop
down to the lower level after the ball of ice, to take the Ice Block out of
play. Continue to the right until the ice starts sloping down.
The ice in these lst two levels makes it incredibly hard to control the
snake, but incredibly easy to lose control. Move carefully down the slope
and jump over to the other slope. Jump up the slope until there is a wall.
Jump up the ledge to the left and jump up until the ice flattens out again.
There is a patrolling Ice Block, so jump on it to destroy it. It will take
three jumps to destroy the Ice Block, so be sure to hit it three times. The
snake has now reached the first "safe point."
Move to the left and around the corner until the ice begins to slope upward.
Jump up the little slope to the flat ice platform. Jump up to the sloping
ledge and move to the left, jumping over the ball of ice as necessary, until
another upward slope of ice appears. Now comes one of the most annoying
jumping sequences in the game up to this point. Jump up the slope to the
left, and eventually Snow Balls will start to fall. Not only are these Snow
Balls tough to jump over, oftentimes they will squash the snake at the very
top. At the top, jump up and to the left, onto an ice platform. This is
the second "safe point."
From the "safe point," wait for a Snow Ball to fall before jumping to the
right onto a sloped platform of ice. On a ledge to the left is an Extra
Snake, but the ice makes it difficult to remain on the ledge after obtaining
the Extra Snake. From the sloped ice platform, carefully go down to the
right, past the rolling ball of ice. This can be tricky, as the player will
often lose control of the snake. At the bottom of this slope, jump around
the corner to the right and onto a platform with a Tongue Extension. Grab
the Tongue Extension and gain control of the snake. This is "safe point"
number three.
From the third "safe point," jump down to the sloped ledge and move to the
right, avoiding any Snow Balls, until a large platform appears. On this
platform is a scale, an Ice Foot, and a Nibbley Pibbley dispenser. On a
ledge just below the platform is another Tongue Extension, so grab that.
Now, avoid the Ice Foot and consume Nibbley Pibbleys. Level Nine is the
introductory level of pibblecopters, and these particular Nibbley Pibbleys
can be tough to catch. Once the snake has eaten enough pibblecopters, the
snake's tail will start to flash. Jump on the scale at this point to open
the level's exit door.
To the right of this large platform is what appears to be a series of steps
up the mountain. All of these steps are sloped, so be careful. Jump up the
five steps, trying to stay on the left side of the steps. On the fifth step
is a rolling ball of ice, so try to avoid that and jump up to the next
sloped ledge. Jump up three more ledges to the right to the top of a sloped
platform with a Clock on it. Grab the Clock for a much needed additional
twenty-five seconds to complete the level. After picking up the Clock, wait
for a Snow Ball to drop, and carefully move down the slope.
At the bottom of the slope, jump to the right and climb the three ledges
until the snake is against a wall. Jump up five more sloped steps. On the
fifth step is another rolling ball of ice. Avoid the ice and jump up to the
ledge on the right. From there, wait for a Snow Ball to drop and jump onto
the downward sloping ice cubes. This can be tough because the player has a
tendency to lose control of the snake at this point. From the bottom of this
slope, jump around the corner and to the right, onto another set of sloped
ice blocks. These slope up and to the right. Jump up the four steps and
move through the exit door to complete the level. Once the level has been
completed, the player will receive this message:
"WOW Level Nine Completed"

- Section 04.10 -- Level Ten -

This level begins with the snake on a long platform, situated above a series
of spikes. As the player moves to the right, an Ice Block will appear. Jump
on the Ice Block to defeat it, remembering that it takes three jumps to
destroy an Ice Block. Once the Ice Block has been destroyed, move down the
steps to a ledge composed of sloped ice. Move around the corner and to the
left. There is a Tongue Extension, but the snake usually falls off the ledge
after any attempt to reach it. There is a rolling ball of ice around the
corner, so jump over it and continue to the left until the snake hits a
wall. Carefully move down the slope and onto another ledge. Move to the
right, avoiding the Ice Block, and onto the flat ice platform. This is also
the level's first "safe point."
From the "safe point," drop down the ledge to the flat ice platform that is
just before another sloped ice ledge. Jump around the corner and to the
left, being careful not to fall off of the sloped ledge. Avoid any Snow
Balls along the way, grab the Tongue Extension, and slide down to the large
flat platform. This platform has a Nibbley Pibbley dispenser and an Ice
Foot. Immediately below the platform is the scale, so eat as many Nibbley
Pibbleys as possible while avoiding the Ice Foot. When the snake's tail
begins to flash, move to the right side of the platform and drop down until
another slope, this time to the left, appears. Use this slope to get to the
scale, being careful not to fall off.
Once the scale has been activated, move back to the right and climb up the
slope. Once at the wall, jump up and to the left until the snake is back on
the large flat platform with the Ice Foot. Now, move to the left edge of
this platform and very carefully move down the slope. From this slope, jump
up to the single sloped platform, and then up and to the right, to the top
of the long sloping ice steps. At the top of the ice steps, jump to the left
onto another "safe point" and pick up the Clock to gain a much needed
twenty-five seconds.
From this "safe point," jump over the spikes to the left and onto another
flat ledge. From this ledge, jump up to a sloped ledge and then jump and to
the right to the top of another set of sloped steps, avoiding falling Snow
Balls along the way. At the top of this set of steps, jump up to the third
"safe point." Now get ready for one of the most frustrating series of jumps
ever found in a video game.
Jump over the spikes to a sloped ledge, and then to a single block wide ice
ledge. From there, jump up and to the left, and then climb two ledges up
and to the right. Jump up the next ledge and cross the sloped ledge and
jump up the sloped steps, avoiding any falling Snow Balls. Jump up to the
sloped ledge, and then jump to the left, over the three spikes. The landing
is tricky, as the landing area is also sloped. Get to the left edge and
jump up to the next sloped ledge. From there, jump up two more ledges to
the fourth "safe point." These last two or three jumps are frustratingly
difficult, and it is a major accomplishment even getting to the fourth
"safe point."
From the "safe point," move to the right and up two sloped steps. Now, jump
up two more steps to the left and onto a sloped ledge. The sloped ledge is
patrolled by falling Snow Balls, so be careful. Once on the sloped ledge,
move to the left and jump up onto another sloped ledge. From this sloped
ledge, jump up and to the right to the fifth "safe point." Getting to this
"safe point" is extremely difficult. After the fifth "safe point," there is
a series of six identical, near impossible, jumps up to the last "safe
point." All I can say is to keep trying these last six jumps, as they are
based almost purely on luck. Once on the last "safe point," jump over and
to the right and go through the exit door in mid-air to complete the level.
Once Level Ten is completed, the player will receive this message:
"AWESOME Level Ten Completed"

- Section 04.11 -- The End Game -

The End Game is just a boss fight between the snake and an Ice Foot. To make
things more difficult, there are two sets of Meteorites that continually
fall from the sky. These Meteorites will squash the snake if they fall on
it. To defeat the Ice Foot, the snake needs to hit the Ice Foot with a
steady stream of tongue attacks. If the attacks falter for even a second,
the Ice Foot will be back up to full strength.
There are a couple of different things that the player can do to make things
easier. One is to memorize exactly where the Ice Foot will land, and when
it will move. This strategy is more difficult, but is typically the better
strategy. The second strategy is for the snake to remain sort of in the
middle of the level, with the Ice Foot jumping around the snake. The only
problem with this strategy is that sometimes the Ice Foot will be out of
reach, and the Meteorites tend to pose more of a problem when using this
strategy. Eventually, after about one and three quarter laps around the
level, the Ice Foot will die, and the player will beat the game.
Congratulations, you have just completed one of the most difficult games on
the Nintendo Entertainment System. Now, go buy a controller or two to
replace the controllers that were broken over the course of this game. Great
job! Go brag and tell all your friends you beat Snake Rattle 'N' Roll. I
know I would!
While playing Snake Rattle 'N' Roll, the player is bound to come across
several different Power-Ups along the way. Each Power-Up is listed below,
and for the player's convenience, each listing is in alphabetical order.
Upon pick up, all Power-Ups are worth 1,000 points to the player.
Clock - The clock is a Power-Up that adds twenty-five seconds to
the timer displayed on the bottom of the screen. The
clock can be especially useful is levels where time is of
the essence. The clock looks like an alarm clock.
Diamond - The diamond is a Power-Up that makes the player's snake
invincible for short while. The diamond is always useful,
so if one is around, be sure to pick it up. The diamond
looks like a diamond.
Extra Continue - An extra continue is a Power-Up that grants the player
one additional continue with which to complete the game.
An extra continue can mean the difference between getting
to level seven and getting to the end of the game. Extra
continues look like snake heads with open mouths.
Extra Snake - An extra snake is a Power-Up that grants the player one
additional life to use on this continue. Extra snakes
look like flashing snake heads.
Fish Tail - The fish tail is quite possibly the least understood
Power-Up. The fish tail can only be obtained in Level
Six, and is only used to climb the waterfall in that
level. The fish tail looks like a golden fish tail.
Reverse - The reverse is a Power-Up that juxtaposes all directions
on the Directional Pad. Left becomes right, up becomes
down, etc. This is the only Power-Up that the player
should avoid no matter what. This Power-Up only causes
confusion and frustration. The reverse looks like an
arrow moving to the left.
Speed Up - The speed up is a Power-Up that increases the speed at
which the player's snake moves. While this Power-Up is
typically useful, it should be avoided in some
situations. The speed up looks like a wind. (It looks
like two circles, one to either side of a line that is
straight up and down.)
Tongue Extension - The tongue extension is a Power-Up that increases the
length of a snake's tongue. After obtaining three of the
tongue extension Power-Ups, the tongue will no longer
extend. The tongue extension looks like a snake tongue
pointing up, in a rectangle that is taller than it is
wide.
Throughout the game, the player will encounter numerous enemies. Most of
these enemies can be defeated in two ways. The first way is with the snake's
tongue. The second way to defeat some enemies is to jump on them. Not all
enemies can be jumped on, however. If an enemy is defeated by the jump
attack, the player will receive more points than if he had used the tongue
attack.
The tongue attack does have some advantages. First, and most important, not
all enemies in Snake Rattle 'N' Roll can be defeated by the snake's jump
attack. These enemies, which are clearly noted below, must be defeated by
using the tongue attack. Additionally, the snake's tongue can be elongated
by picking up the tongue extension power up. The tongue's length can only be
increased in this way three times. And, while the longer tongue is certainly
more useful against deadlier enemies, it does not gain strength. The
extension will only increase the distance that the snake can shoot its
tongue.
For the player's convenience, enemy listings are listed in alphabetical
order.
Anvilz - Anvilz attempt to squash the player's snake. Throughout the
levels, the player will see three different colors of Anvilz,
with each color acting differently.
Beach Ball - Beach Balls like to appear out of nowhere and squash the
player. Beach Balls are rare, but when encountered, jump over
the Beach Ball as it approaches the player to avoid getting
squashed.
Big Foot - Big Foot can be found in nearly all levels, in some form. Big
Foot can only be destroyed by using the tongue attack, and
when defeated, will give up a small snake head. If the snake
head is not flashing, it will turn into a bomb. However,
if the snake head is flashing, it is an Extra Snake.
Bladez - Bladez like to hide in the ground, waiting for their chance to
spring up and damage the player's snake. Once they show
themselves, they will always appear in that same exact spot.
Just remember where that spot is, and jump over it when the
Bladez are down.
Ice Block - An Ice Block is an enemy that moves back and forth across a
platform in the higher levels. Ice Blocks move very fast. To
avoid getting hit, either jump over them or destroy them with
a tongue attack. Ice Blocks can be jumped on.
Ice Foot - Ice Foot is Big Foot's older brother. Ice Foot is only found
in later levels, and can only be defeated by using the tongue
attack. However, in order to defeat Ice Foot, the player must
hammer it with a constant barrage of tongue attacks. If the
player misses just one time, Ice Foot will immediately
recharge up to full strength.
Krazy Seat - A Krazy Seat looks like a toilet seat that has unattached
itself from the toilet. Krazy Seats can be jumped on or licked
to death. The Krazy Seat can be avoided rather easily, because
it just patrols an area; it doesn't actively attack a player.
Metal Tree - A Metal Tree looks kind of like a pine tree made out of metal.
Usually, Metal Trees attempt to block the player's path, but
they can be destroyed by using the tongue attack.
Meteorite - Meteorites act in exactly the same way as Snow Balls and Beach
Balls. The only difference is that Meteorites can only be
found in the End Game, while fighting the final boss. To avoid
the squashing death, jump over the Meteorite as it is coming
towards the player.
Mushroom - Mushrooms can only be found in Level Two. They look like
little animated mushrooms, and patrol a specific area of the
level. Mushrooms can be jumped on, or they can be destroyed
by the tongue attack.
Pin Cushion - The Pin Cushion is a poisonous plant that shoots deadly spines
around the perimeter of the plant. Destroy Pin Cushions as
soon as possible.
Record - Record are the weakest enemy in the game. Records are only
found in Level One, and can be destroyed by either the jump
attack or the tongue attack. Records move diagonally, as if
they were pieces in a game of checkers.
Shark - The Shark can be found in Levels One and Two, in the water.
If the player stays in the water for too long, the Shark will
come after the player.
Snakedozer - Snakedozers are only found on cliffs and ledges, set back in
the wall. When the player's snake ventures near, the blue
Snakedozer will attempt to push the snake off of the cliff or
ledge. Jump over the Snakedozers to avoid this enemy.
Snow Ball - Snow Balls like to appear out of nowhere and squash the
player. Only found in later levels, the Snow Ball will drop
from the sky and roll down the hill. To avoid getting
squashed, jump over the Snow Ball as it approaches.
This is the original guide, as submitted to GameFAQs. There will definitely
be updates to come, as there is inevitably something else that can go in
here. All sections are as complete as I want them for now. All portions of
this guide are my own design, except for the ASCII Nintendo Controller,
