01.) INTRODUCTION G0100

Welcome to 'Sanma no Meitantei' for the NES, released by Namco in 1987. It was
only released in Japan.
The guide uses Shift-JIS to display Japanese characters in .txt form. If you
cannot see them automatically and just see some garbled font, set your browser
encoding or file viewer manually. It is recommended that you view the file in
a fixed font such as Courier New as some of the tables with Shift-JIS will
look odd without it.
This game is a text adventure. To play you need to have advanced knowledge of
the Japanese language. Thus this walkthrough is intended for players who are
able to read and understand the text.

02.) BASICS G0200
===============================================================================
Controls are really simple. You move the cursor around with the D-Pad and
select with the A button. B backs out to the previous selection if available.
On the main map or some action sequences you only use the D-Pad to move around,
enter a location with the A button.

From a location you get back to the main menu by using the GO command. The
main icon to use is the magnifying glass. If you want to chat to someone who
is not there right now you can call them up with the picture, but only if they
are around is this really useful. The evidence suitcase is used when you want
to interact with objects, including things lying around you want to take or
use. Talking to people is done with the LISTEN command. Talking is done in a
similar fashion by using the Face icon. In certain situations it may be
required to threaten someone by showing off your fisticuff skills. Finally,
SAVE the current game with the notebook.
Misc:

If you go to the graveyard (X) you get to play some mini-game, which looks
almost impossible. At (Y) is a small arcade game like Space Invaders. The
spaceships are worth 100 points whereas the shooting star and the planet are
1000.
During your investigation you often come across useless yet often hilarious
stuff. For example, manually look at Ayako in her room for a close-up view,
manually check her small pillow on the bed to find her panties, etc. For more
info check the credit section. Tons of hidden stuff in this game.

To get there, go to the large estate in the top left corner of the map, enter
the middle doorway with a table and chairs from a top-down view.

As you leave the house you will find more locations have opened up. Go to the
small pink house with a blue roof in the southern section.

GO -> すみのえのボ-トレ-ス, Bay Boat Racing
This is in the far north, with the little bay and the boat kind of giving it
away.

You have to compete against this guy in a boat race. To gain speed, simply
bash the A and B buttons. The other boat will sporadically gain speed but if
you keep up your pace you should also cross the finish line first.

In this mini-puzzle you have a four-color combination to unlock the computer.
The fields at the bottom can be selected, the top ones are filled as you build
pairs of the same color. I am not sure if the fields are always random but you
can always say Yes to retry. The top row must have the order of Spades, Hearts,
Diamond, Club. The guy's face will appear when you input this.

Easy to spot, the aerobics studio is on the western edge of town.

In this rhythm mini-game you must simply jump over the mechanical mouse when it
approaches. Do not jump too early and obviously not too late. The mouse will
increase speed soon but not too long until one of other girls gets hit.

The pub is down south with a little bottle and bowl at the front of the
establishment.

By this it means the totem pole-like park nearby.
EVIDENCE -> みせる わたす -> きんのくさり
Shiro will run off and it is your task to capture him. This is a little more
difficult that first thought, but with some luck it does not take too long.
Basically he will run out of the screen and you want to follow him. The dog
and the girl will slow you down immensely. Trying to evade them by standing on
the paths to the buildings does not work as well as one would hope, but it may
still be timed well enough to speed up this affair. After reaching the next
screen, walk into one of the buildings in the hope of finding him. Repeat this
with the other doorways and usually he will escape from one you did not enter.
If nothing happens in all places then you need to move on and try in the next
screen, presumably going the same direction as entering this area. Eventually
you should find his hideout.

This area of town is between the aerobics studio and the dressing room. It is
a big commercial building with signs on top, a bit like downtown.
