01.) INTRODUCTION G0100
===============================================================================
Welcome to 'Rockball' for the NES, released in 1993 by Sachen.
Suggestions, comments or errors - email me about it. Enjoy!
===============================================================================
02.) BASICS G0200
===============================================================================
The aim of the game is to place each colored ball onto its respective podium.
On the way you will come across enemies which can be killed by rolling over
them with a ball, or shoot to disable them for a short amount of time. Your
shot only reaches around 3 tiles. When all balls are on their spots, the round
is complete. You'll know when the ball is correctly placed on its podium, as
the symbol will be visible through it.
Note: These 'swastikas' are a symbol of good luck in Buddhism.
Balls bounce off walls, and you CAN kill yourself if you are careless.
Defeated enemies will reappear from uncovered holes behind the podiums. It is
a good idea to keep passages that are closed by a ball until the end of a
level as it will trap enemies in the meantime. You can smack a ball against
another color and they will have a 'clacker' effect, i.e. the other one will
get pushed away with some force. You can use this technique to kill enemies,
but this may also make the rolling more difficult for you later.
Finally, notice that you have a time limit represented with candles that will
slowly burn down. When the time runs out, all enemies turn into invincible
ghosts and hunt you down, thus you lose a life.

B-Button: Shoot, push the ball.
START: Pause
SELECT: Restart the round.
2-Player:
`````````
2-Player mode is pretty much the same as playing alone, but you get to
complete the levels together and compete for points if you desire. It is
easier than single player. The walkthrough below does not apply well because
you can move more than one ball at the same time, but certain actions still
require to be done in a certain order.
Score:
``````
Items yield points, for a hi-score mainly. You also get points for killing
enemies. Killing several foes in a row will double the score, i.e. killing one
foe gives you 200 points, and the next 400 etc. This does not apply when you
destroy the entire horde with the fire spell.
Items:
`````
There are certain items that are helpful along the way, such as being able to
flame every monster on a level in an instant. Candles will fill up your time
again. The music note will stop enemies for a short time. 1UP gives you an
extra life. Other items are only there for points.
===============================================================================
03.) ROCKBALL G0300
===============================================================================
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fantasy Forest G0310
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Round 1-1:
``````````
Simple first level. Push each colored ball up the rows, while you slay anybody
in your path. Shoot the foes that come across at the bottom of the screen to
complete this level.
Round 1-2:
``````````
First push the gray ball up, then go around and push it right onto the podium.
Push the blue ball left as far as you can, push it up, then right. Make your
way into the bottom right corner and go up to the two rows to complete the
green and red ball across the snakes. Do these last so the snakes won't bother
you throughout the level.
Round 1-3:
``````````
Very basic, each ball is already positioned and just needs to be pushed on the
podiums. All you need to take care of are the enemies around the area.
Round 1-4:
``````````
Start with the red ball, push it all the way right on the podium. Go up and
switch position with the green one, roll it left. At the very top the gray
ball is waiting for completion, and the blue one is in the passage beneath
where you simply switch position with it and roll it right.
Round 1-5:
``````````
Roll the red ball up two spots and take the blue one to the left. At the first
junction, stop and go around to move it up a bit. Now move it right and switch
position so you are below the green. Move the green up one spot and then go
around and move it out of the way. Return to the blue, move it one spot to the
right so it's lined up with the blue podium at the top. Switch position with
it from the north and then roll it home.
For the red ball, switch position from the right from where you left it (same
level as gray ball), then move it to the left of the gray one. Move it up, go
around and move it on the podium.
Round 1-6:
``````````
By now you should be used to switching your character with the ball when
necessary so I won't mention it every single time.
The red ball should be moved right three spots, switched position from below,
down one spot, switched position from the left, down to the level of the
blue and green ball, right next to the blue ball, up to the gray podium, right
to the red podium and up.
For the gray ball, move it left next to the tree, switch position from below,
move it down one spot, switch position from the right, down to the level of
the green and blue ball and then next to the green ball. Move it up to the red
podium and left to the gray one, then home.
It's all not very hard, but tedious work.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Desert Ravine G0320
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Round 2-1:
``````````
For each ball, move it up a few rows, get around and move it in line with its
corresponding color, then up. Do this four times to complete the level.
Round 2-2:
``````````
First grab the red ball, move it into the top left corner, or just one below
if you wish to stop enemies in that passage from coming up. Now push the green
ball two spots to the right, switch position from underneath and roll it to
the next junction. Switch position from the left and roll it in the middle.
Move the blue one out of the way, trap somebody in the left corridor if you
wish to do so. Get the green ball home.
Switch position with the green bal and align it with the gray podium on the
left. Then move it on it. Finally, do the same for the red ball.
Round 2-3:
``````````
Grab the red ball, move it down as far as you can, then left one spot. Go
around the gray ball and switch position with the red ball from underneath.
Push it down again and go around once more, this time pushing it left one
spot. Grab it from underneath and push it down, then push it right and finally
next to the red podium. Switch position with the blue ball to gain access to
red one.
Grab the gray ball, push it right and then switch with it from underneath. Do
as you have done with the red ball but on this side of the level. Switch with
the green one to gain access to it at the end.
I suggest not taking the flame icon on this level as all enemies will appear
at the bottom of the map where you are working a lot, instead they should stay
spread around on the map which usually happens.
Round 2-4:
``````````
First take the gray ball up, left and down to the podium, this one is the
easiest to get rid off. Then move the blue one into the top left corner. Slide
the green one out of the way for now and get the blue one home. Get the green
ball right and then down to where the gray one was at the beginning. It
requires some walking around but eventually it will all be complete.
Round 2-5:
``````````
None of the balls have anything tricky to them. The gray one is nicely
positioned near the start, the green one on the right side (for player 2).
Red and blue are not too far off from their podiums either.
Round 2-6:
``````````
Another easy one. Drag the green bal over to the right and dump on its podium.
Next move the blue above the tree on the right and to the podium. Finally,
grab the green ball in the bottom right corner and complete the level.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Black Wind Hole G0330
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Round 3-1:
``````````
Get up the to the red ball, move it all the way to the right and that's all
for that one already. Now move the gray one up, and the green one into the top
left corner.
Round 3-2:
``````````
Only one ball to move but each time you go around to switch positions you will
need to get through the other colors. Quite annoying, but nothing too hard to
figure out. Getting the blue ball through the corridor takes some time but you
should have enough extra to move the gray one into the gap at the top left
and the red one in the unused one at the bottom right to make it easier to get
around, perhaps saving you time and trouble in the long-run. There should be
a candle icon near the top.
Round 3-3:
``````````
Nothing to it, just pick out the colors you need in that small room and roll
them up. Shouldn't take too long either.
Round 3-4:
``````````
Start with the green one, line it up with the green podium, switch position
from above and then take it home. Next do this with the blue ball and the
coast is clear for the rest of the balls.
Round 3-5:
``````````
The podiums count as walkway as long as they are empty. First move the red
ball, then get the blue one into the small niche below it's podium. The gray
one just needs to be pushed up, then go around and dragged over and the green
one is very similar but takes a little longer to get home. Before you place
the green one, go inside and finish up the blue color instead. Now complete
the level. Perhaps the enemy is more trouble than usual here, as there are
fewer walking spots and they all spawn in the center. It's a good idea to let
them live rather than respawn and cause trouble for you there.
Round 3-6:
``````````
Get the green ball first, it saves you some walking. Move it left to the gap
and then switch around until you reach the podiums. Next move red ball to
the left and up the gap to its podium as well. All that's left is getting the
blue one up here, too, which shouldn't be too hard. The main problem on this
level is that it's tight and the narrow corridors mean you often must take the
fire icon, and then all the foes will be lurking around the podiums.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ghost Island G0340
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The water works like walls, the ball will bounce off and not disappear or
anything.
Round 4-1:
``````````
Both the gray and red ball follow the same tactic. Bring them up and switch
position while on the podium, then secure them. The gray one needs to be
placed first though. Once both are done the green and blue ball just need to
be pushed a few spots and the level is completed. Time is a little tight so
pick up a few candle icons on the way.
Round 4-2:
``````````
Simply pick out the colors and move them to their respective corners. There is
nothing tricky about this level. It's very possible to pick up a fire icon
and make life a little more difficult in the corners, but that's about it. The
right side can take a little longer as you need to move around to the other
side a few more times, it might be better to do the red ball first.
Round 4-3:
``````````
You may do the colors in any order but I suggest taking up the gray ball and
then at the top finishing up the blue one first, then the gray one. Finally,
bring the red one home.
Round 4-4:
``````````
Player 1 starts near the red ball so take it up and then go around at the
bottom. Push the blue ball on its podium and now drag the red on one over.
Grab the gray ball and get it towards the center. This one will take up the
most amount of time. Just before the end you need to walk through the green
ball. Push it on spot to the right and then switch position. When the gray one
is positioned, finish the green ball to complete the level.
Round 4-5:
``````````
Take the gray ball to the left somewhere above the green one. Drag the blue
ball over to the opening and then make it all the way to the blue podium. It
will take a bit of walking around. After the blue is done, the gray one can
be finished up too. Move the green ball up and right, then get the red one
left, up and right to end this round. It required running around the entire
map but time should not be a problem.
Round 4-6:
``````````
Start with the blue ball, get it up two spots, right to the middle and the
kick it up. Get around and finish it up. Now grab the red ball and shift it up
to the podium. Collect the gray ball, move it down and over to the left. It
only requires a few switches. Finally you can do the green one that would have
blocked the gray ball earlier.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Devil Tower G0350
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Round 5-1:
``````````
First you need to move the blue and gray ball out of the way as they are not
required but in the way. Move one up, let's say blue, then get around the
other side and grab the blue from here. Move it onto the top line in the
center. Now grab the gray one and also store it up there. It is not possible
to move the green and red balls up to their respective podiums. Very long
level, be sure to pick up candles when you get across the icon.
Round 5-2:
``````````
Not hard, you just need to do the balls in the right order. First move the
blue ball left, then get the gray on around to the podium. Next up is the red
ball, and finally the green only required a little push.
Round 5-3:
``````````
Start with the green ball, move it right, up and some more right. Walk right
and move the blue one up and left a little, out of the way for the red one to
be moved right, up, left and on the podium. Now move the gray one over to the
right and finally complete the blue color.
Round 5-4:
``````````
You need to place the green after the red ball. The gray color can be done at
any point but I suggest last. So grab red and move it up towards the podiums.
Move the blue one out of the way, then finish up the red color. Then do green
quickly. Gray will take a long time but it's not tricky.
Round 5-5:
``````````
Blue should be finished first, it won't block any important path. Move gray
down next to the podium but leave it for later to finish to keep this path
open. For the other two, move green right two spaces below the podium. Now
finish up the red ball first and move the green on the rest of the way. Finish
the gray color too if you haven't don so yet.
Round 5-6:
``````````
Last level. Very tight on time unless you find a candle icon. If you have a
life left, lose it towards the end to refill your timer and just continue.
Anyway, move the red ball into the bottom left corner for now. Grab the green
ball and move it down and around to the podium. Do the same for the blue one.
Now move the gray ball up and through the diagonal corridor, it takes some
switching and is quite tedious. When done just continue the way down like the
green and blue ball. Finally, move the red ball up and the same route as the
gray one previously. To be honest I don't know how the normal timer would ever
do in this level...perhaps it wasn't meant to be...
