Radia Walkthrough 1.00

You probably won't need a walkthrough for Radia, because there's nothing really
tricky to figure out, but this was the only way I could justify playing through
the game again to myself.  So enjoy!

C. General Advice
-----------------------

* You won't get enough Gil directly from enemies to afford any good stuff.  Sell
off your Meat, Tusks, and Bones whenever you need money.

* Your companions are very stupid and will stand next to enemies, walk into
enemy fire, etc.  It's frustrating, but it works out -- you have plenty of
healing capability.  If your allies are really getting beat up, use Group or
Move and send them off to a corner while you do the fighting.

* Use attack techs freely to get through tough enemy parties.  Attack techs
can't be used against bosses, so there's no point in saving them for the end of
each area.

* If you get stuck, talk to everyone, especially the important people.

-----------------------
D. Walkthrough
-----------------------

-----------------------
1. The Outset
-----------------------

You'll wake up in a forest and meet Darus.  The two of you will immediately be
attacked by monsters.

-----------------------
YELLOW SLIMES
Four ordinary yellow slimes: Very weak contact attack

You'd have to work really hard to LOSE this battle.  Hit them each twice and get
on with it.
-----------------------

After the battle, Darus will invite you back to Elfas.  Head north to the
village.  Watch the scene and go to sleep on the bed.  After you wake up, you'll
be told to go to Mt. Belzend.  Walk around the town, and be sure to check all
the dressers and pots for some goodies.  (Just push up against them.)  You don't
have any money yet; don't worry about it.  Head east out of the village and
north to Guard Forest East.  Make your way through.  The enemies take more
damage than the ones in the intro, but they're still no threat.  When you reach
Mt. Belzend, head to the left and start up the mountain.  Before long you'll
find the bandits, see another scene, and wind up back in the village.

Go back to Rollo's house and talk to Mina.  She'll give you a rusty sword.  Go
outside and head left.  Talk to Nyuta in the house just across the river.  Go
back to Rollo's house and go to sleep on the bed upstairs.  That night, you'll
wake up and see something crash nearby.  Go to Mt. Belzend as before.  Continue
up the mountain, past the bandits' cave, until you find the crashed airship.
You'll find the Princess and automatically take her back to Elfas.  Rollo will
tell you to go to Zenobia and find the Princess's people, who must be looking
for her.

-----------------------
2. Zenobia
-----------------------

First go to the equipment shop and buy a Hide Shirt for yourself.  When you
leave town, Nyuta will give you a Steel Sword.  Remember to equip them!  Now
head out and climb Mt. Belzend yet again.  At the top you'll find a cave.  Make
your way through.  You'll find a Scroll on the way; use it on Darus to give him
his first Tech.  Head through another short section of forest and go north to
reach Zenobia.

Talk to people, check pots and dressers, yada yada.  Get Darus a Tree Ring and a
Silk Robe at the equipment shop.  Sell some of your Meat if you're short on
cash.  Go to the Inn and talk to Yura (the woman behind the counter).  Go
upstairs and sleep on the bed.  That night, Yura will wake you and take you to
the Hyupos' Forest.  Head north to the tunnel and make your way through to
Necrude Castle.

The enemies here are more dangerous, especially the brown swordsmen.  The route
is pretty straightforward.  You'll seem to find Ralph, but it'll be a trap.  Go
to sleep on the bed.  Baru will get thrown in with you.  With him in your party,
you can escape.  Backtrack slightly to the door that wouldn't open before; it
will now.  Continue on until you find the real Ralph.  Talk to him.  Now, use a
Travel Bell to warp out if you have one, or walk back out if you don't.

Return to the Inn and talk to Ralph.  You'll learn of knights in the grassland
who are looking for a princess, and Ralph will leave to open the way.  Leave
town and head west through the passage the Hyupos were blocking before.  In the
Selfrone Grassland, head up, left, way down, and left again.  When you try to
cross the last bridge, you'll meet Haman.  Now head all the way back to Elfas.
In the cave of Mt. Belzend, Haman will open a new path.  Back in the village, go
to Rollo's house.  Princess Lefis will tell of Gadiss's plan to activate Radia
Tower.  You'll decide to go to Fubart next.

-----------------------
3. Fubart
-----------------------

You're now in Elfas Castle.  Don't forget to check the pots, bookshelves, etc.
You'll find another Scroll and some other goodies.  Make the long trip back to
the Selfrone Grassland and continue west across the bridge.  If you want, take a
detour to the north, where you'll find an item shop and a bed in a cave.  Leave
to the southwest and you'll be in the Bryuure Wasteland.  Don't miss the cave in
the upper right area; it has another Scroll for you.  Near the west side, you'll
find a magician being attacked by two swordsmen.

-----------------------
SWORDSMEN
Two swordsmen: Sword attack

They aren't terribly dangerous.  This is the one major battle where you can use
attack techniques, so do it!  Then just pound on them.  They won't last long.
-----------------------

Saria will now join your party.  Continue west.  Watch out in the screen just to
the left of Zaam Valley -- you may be attacked by a very powerful purple bull.
If so, stay away from it and let your companions fight.  When you reach Fubart,
go pick up some expensive new equipment from the weapon shop.  Sell off your
Tusks and Meat to get enough money.  Talk to Tosuran in the house in the middle
of the village.  Then go to the big building on the north side.  The entry will
be open now.  Walk inside and watch the meeting.  Then head to the cave entrance
on the south side of town.  Go inside to the Underground House.  Meet Reg and
then go north to the Cave of Wind.

The enemies inside aren't very strong and they drop lots of Meat too.  Be sure
to explore all the side passages thoroughly; there's lots of good treasure,
including another Scroll (give it to Saria so she'll learn Healus) and a Gadora
Pad.  Find the stairs and go up to the Shrine of Wind.  Inside, you'll meet the
first real boss, Shura.

-----------------------
SHURA
Yellow warrior: Throws tornadoes

As with most bosses, try to trap him in a corner and wail on him.  Dodge his
shots if you can, but don't worry too much; his attack's not strong.  Just keep
hitting him and healing as needed.
-----------------------

Continue to the left and down out of the cave.  You'll see the Fitzkarard take
off and head for Elfas.  Go all the way back to Elfas and go inside Elfas
Castle.  You'll learn that Princess Lefis has been captured and taken to Necrude
Castle.

-----------------------
4. Zenobia Revisited
-----------------------

Return to Zenobia.  Head north.  The main castle gate will be open now.  Head
straight up to the throne room and talk to Duke Necrude / Saam.  Then go back
down to the first floor.  Explore the main room until you find Ralph.  Head down
one staircase to find a storeroom with a few minor items.  Head down the other
to find the real Duke Necrude and get the Mirror Ring.  Return to the room where
Ralph is and check all the mirrors until you find the secret passage.  Go up to
the second floor.  Head left for a bed and some neat equipment, then head down
and around to the right.  Go up the stairs and fight Saam.

-----------------------
SAAM
Blue magician: Releases lightning charges that follow you around the room; casts
attack spell

Start by telling everyone to Group in the lower-left corner of the room.  With
luck, they'll walk across the room and avoid the lightning bolts.  Set them back
to Fight and start pounding on Saam.  He'll attempt to cast attack spells, but
if you hit him he won't be able to.  Your only problem will be if the lightning
charges catch you and Saam starts releasing more right in your face.
-----------------------

Continue outside and watch the airship take off again.  Now head back to Baru's
hideout on Mt. Belzend.  Go in the cave and Baru's gang will fly you across the
ocean.

-----------------------
5. Guandia
-----------------------

You'll come down in Birdie's Forest.  Detour east to Birdie's Hut for a rest,
then head north to Guandia.  Buy better equipment (the shops on the left are
closed, the ones on the right are open) and don't miss the Water Ring in the
upper-rightmost house.  Continue north to the Tower of Water.

The Tower of Water is the first really difficult dungeon you'll face.  It's long
and filled with many hard-hitting enemies.  It looks complicated, but there's
really only one way to go.  There are several important detours you should take
for extra treasure.  Near the start, after going down to B1 and back up to 1F,
head down the first stairway and collect the treasure before continuing up the
second stairway.  On 2F, the left hallways lead to rooms with minor treasure.
Finally, right after the outside balcony higher up the tower, take the down
staircase for some more good treasure.  On the top of the tower you'll meet Veg.

-----------------------
VEG
Red magician: Throws powerful fireball; releases flame men
Flame men: Weak contact attack

Concentrate your attack on Veg himself.  He's strong and fires rapidly, so watch
your HP and be ready to heal.  Try to dodge his fireball and hit him while he's
helpless.  (He can only have one shot on screen at a time.)  Don't hesitate to
use your Holy Orb, Miracle, or Elixir if you get in a jam.
-----------------------

After defeating Veg, you'll board the Fitzkarard.  Immediately go in the door
above you.  Sleep and save.  Leave the room.  Head up first for some treasure.
Use Techs liberally, since you've got a bed right there.  Then head down and to
the right.  Go down the first staircase above you for some good treasure.  Go
down the second one to find another bed.  Go down the third staircase.  Head up
for treasure, then continue down and right.  Go up the stairs, grab the Magic
Belt (a very useful accessory), and continue on to the bridge.  You'll meet
Lefis and Nova.  Just when things look hopeless, Leorina will appear and warp
you back to Guandia.  She'll explain that you need the Stone of Flame to save
Guandia.

-----------------------
6. The Stone of Flame
-----------------------

The search for the Stone of Flame is long and exhausting.  Head back to the tool
shop to stock up on Potions and sell off your Tusks.  Go north to the Tower of
Water again and you'll meet Sofie.  Head north out of Count Kreps' Mansion.
Head right at the start of Godo Forest and continue north to Mt. Bernard.  Climb
the mountain and head left at the peak.  Go through the cave.  Head left at the
start of the Lava Region and make your way through to Bandora.  The town is
deserted, but check all the pots and cupboards for all kinds of goodies.  Give
Scrolls to Leorina so you can take advantage of her powerful Techs.  Continue
north to Ruji Bafumunt's Palace.

Be careful when fighting near the holes in Ruji's palace.  If you fall down a
hole in battle, you'll be knocked out.  First go north to the beds, sleep, and
save.  Grab the Scroll and Magic Robe to the right.  Head left and up the
stairs.  Get the treasure in the middle left room.  Jump down the hole in the
lower left room.  Grab the Geofountain and Ball of Life and jump down a hole
again.  Walk back and forth across the large basement area and collect all the
treasure.  Head up the stairs to return to the first floor.  Go up the stairs to
the second floor again.  Head down and far right.  Pick up the treasure in the
large room.  Head back left, enter the throne room, and talk to Ruji.  Head
right, sleep and save, continue right, and jump down the hole.  Do NOT jump down
the next hole.  Instead, head down and out of the castle.  Continue right and up
to the Cave of Flame.

When you reach the three entrances, read the sign.  "Draw the sword" is a hint
to take the right entrance first.  Go up, left, down, and out to the starting
room again.  Read the sign again.  "Raise the shield" means to take the left
entrance now.  Head up, right, down, and out.  Now the sign tells you to "run
through the gap," that is, the middle entrance.  In the next room, go right
first.  Follow the path all the way around and get the Full Metal Sword.
Retrace your steps and go up to the next room.  Take the right path, go down the
stairs, and get the Battle Dress.  Retrace your steps and this time take the
left path.  You'll pass through two more rooms followed by a long set of
stairways leading down.  At the bottom you'll reach the Agiras' Village.  After
you're done exploring and shopping, go to the upper right corner of town and get
the Stone of Flame from the shrine.

-----------------------
7. Melting the Ice
-----------------------

Now use a Travel Bell or Escape to leave the cave.  Go back to Ruji's Palace,
jump down the hole to the basement, go to the stairs in the upper left, and make
your way back to his throne room.  Sleep and save on the way.  After you talk to
him, you'll be attacked.

-----------------------
FIRE SOLDIERS
Five red soldiers: Throw fireball; cast attack spell

They're not as dangerous as they first seem.  You'll take a lot of hits, but
although they're fast they won't inflict much damage.  Not much strategy
required for this melee; just whack away and use Healus if needed.
-----------------------

Now make the long trip back to Guandia.  Count Kreps' Mansion is now full of
enemies.  Sleep and save.  The blue door in the upper left part of the mansion
will open now.  Go upstairs and you'll come out on the outside balcony.  Take
the far left door, the far right door, and the inside right door for some good
equipment.  Finally take the center door, go up to the third floor, and fight
Sol.

-----------------------
SOL
Blue magician: Throws freeze crystals

He moves quickly, and his shots inflict a fair amount of damage as well as
temporarily freezing you.  He only fires when someone is standing right next to
him, though, so keep your distance as you fight.  Do NOT press him into a
corner, because if you get frozen right next to him, he'll fire continuously as
you stand helpless.
-----------------------

The city is saved!  Now go explore all the buildings and shops that were frozen
shut before.  When you're done, go to the building in the lower right corner of
town.  Talk to the guy standing by the right door and you'll sail back to Elfas.
Go to Elfas Castle's third floor and talk to Rollo.  He'll tell you the legend
of Radia Tower and the eight treasures.  You'll decide to go to Bernard next.

-----------------------
8. Bernard
-----------------------

Go back to the port east of town.  Talk to the guy and he'll send you to Fubart.
Talk to the guy there and he'll send you to Guandia.  Head north through Godo
Forest to Mt. Bernard.  This time, head right at the peak instead of left.
Haman will fill in the holes so you can continue on to the town of Bernard.
When you reach the town, head left to the weapon shop and buy as much of the
excellent equipment as you can.  Head back to the right.  Take the ladder going
down and grab the Scroll from the small building below.  Go back up and right.
Continue along the tunnels and ledges until you reach Aburo's house.  He'll kick
you out (literally).  Go back the way you came.  After you go a ways you'll see
Aburo leave by the ladder.  Go back to his house.  Talk to the maid, who says
that Aburo went to meet with Samara.  Save your game and go down the ladder on
the left side of the room.  Go right and enter the caverns of Mt. Bernard.

The enemies in Mt. Bernard are numerous and powerful.  Don't hesitate to use
special recovery items such as Holy Orbs and Miracles, because you'll find
several more on the way.  Go north through the first room.  In the second room,
head right first to pick up some more treasure.  Then backtrack and go up.
Continue along the passage and go up the stairs.  Continue south and you'll see
Beruga attacking Aburo.  Go right and up for treasure, then left and up.  Go
down the stairs.  Go up to get the Earth Ring.  Now continue down and right and
talk to Aburo.  Continue right and head north until you find Midea and Beruga.

-----------------------
BERUGA
Blue-cloaked guy: Very powerful mattock attack
Four clones: Weak mattock attack

Beruga creates four identical clones of himself.  You can hit them but can't
defeat them.  When you hit the real Beruga, all five will disappear and reappear
in different places.  Remember that if you hit one and they don't disappear,
that's not the right one.  Each time they appear, try to hit all five as fast as
you can.  Watch out for the real Beruga, because his mattock inflicts massive
(50 to 100) damage.  Keep your HP up and use special recovery items if needed,
and remember that Midea and Darus both have Healus.

(A cheap trick is to set everyone to "Rush" and choose the first enemy the arrow
points to.  The AI will track him even when they change places.)
-----------------------

Walk up as far as you can and the Shrine of Iron will rise out of the lost sea.
Sit back and enjoy the long cut scene.  You'll automatically return to Elfas and
decide to go get the treasure of Sarejia before Samara can.

-----------------------
9. Sarejia
-----------------------

First go walk around Elfas again.  There's a new shop you should visit.  And
remember to equip someone with the Coppun Diadem that Aburo gave you.  When
you're ready, head north through Mt. Belzend and west past Zenobia to the
Selfrone Grassland.  Make your way through and leave to the northwest.  In the
north part of Rema Desert you'll find the stairway leading down to Sarejia, the
country rooted in the earth.

The town is full of monsters.  Note the shrine that you can't enter; you'll be
coming back to it in a minute.  Visit all the houses and shops.  When you find
Geo, he'll give you the Amulet of Earth so you can enter the shrine.  Return to
the shrine and enter.  Walk forward to the inner room, where you'll be attacked
by Samara's spies.

-----------------------
BARON SPIDER, NERO, AND GESTAHL
Giant spider: Powerful contact attack; throws spiderwebs
Two swordsmen: Powerful sword attack

Nero and Gestahl hit hard and often.  Take them out first.  Have your allies
Rush one of them while you hold off the other.  Watch your HP carefully, because
they can inflict a lot of damage in a hurry.  Baron Spider will move around the
top of the room firing spiderwebs, which cause a fair bit of damage and
temporarily immobilize you.  Once Nero and Gestahl are gone, surround Baron
Spider and pound it into submission.
-----------------------

-----------------------
10. Samara
-----------------------

After getting the Compass of Earth, you'll decide to go to Samara and take back
the other seven treasures.  Leave Sarejia and enter the cave just to the right.
The cave is very long and the enemies are powerful, but the route is straight.
You'll come out on a hill.  Just head down and east to reach Samara.

Be sure to check the dressers on the top floor of the Inn.  You'll find another
Coppun Diadem and some other good stuff.  The tool shop sells Scrolls if you're
missing any spells.  The weapon shop has excellent equipment.  Go north to the
Shrine of the Moon, climb up the left or right staircase, and walk into the
water.  Teto will rescue you and give you the Medallion so you can enter the
shrine.  Return to the shrine, walk into the water again, and take the left or
right beam.  Continue on and enter the shrine.

The Shrine of Samara is a maze of rooms that loop back on themselves endlessly.
Pay attention to the colors of the rooms and the treasure chests to find your
way through.  Here's a map if you need it.  The < > /\ \/ arrows indicate the
endless loops.  (1) and (2) indicate rooms with one or two treasure chests.

The enemies aren't too difficult and they drop nearly a thousand Gil, so if
there was any equipment you couldn't afford before, just spend some time
fighting until you can buy everything you need.  Find your way through to the
roof, where a cool cut scene will ensue.  In the end, Nova and Gadiss will take
off for Radia Tower, and Teto will teleport you after them.

-----------------------
11. Radia Tower
-----------------------

You'll be on the Fitzkarard again.  Go through it as you did before.  Note that
all the treasure chests contain new items such as Elixirs and other goodies, so
be sure to clear them all out.  Don't miss the Banded Mail on the way.  Watch
out for the ninjas who appear in these final areas of the game.  Their shuriken
inflict a lot of damage.  When you reach the bridge, sleep and save.  Continue
down out of the ship and enter the tower.

Radia Tower is large and winding.  Explore each floor thouroughly before
continuing up.  Here you'll find most of the final equipment for your party.
Don't miss the Paladin Armor on the left side of the first floor.  When you
reach the third floor, first go up the two beams on the left to pick up the Moon
Blade and Full Moon Ring.  Then continue up the beam on the right.  On the fifth
floor, take the first beam to find the Dragon Sword.  Nova waits for you at the
top of the tower.

-----------------------
NOVA
Yellow wizard: Throws powerful spells; teleports around room

Nova fires rapidly and often vanishes before you can reach him.  Dodge his
spells as best you can.  When he disappears, walk back to the middle of the room
so you'll have the best chance to reach him when he reappears.  Hit him whenever
you can and watch your HP.  Use any items needed to keep yourself alive.
-----------------------

-----------------------
12. The Sanctuary
-----------------------

You'll now find yourself in a familiar place.  Make your way down to ground
level, saving your game on the way.  Go south.  In the northeast part of the
area, a secret stairway has appeared.  Go down and follow the tunnel.  You'll
come up in the back hallways that you may have wondered about before.  Continue
up.  On the top floor you'll find the Place of the Seal and Gadiss.  (Note:
After defeating Gadiss you won't be able to return to the main game world.)

-----------------------
GADISS
Purple warrior: Powerful force attack

Gadiss attacks very quickly, and his blows will knock you all the way across the
room.  Try to stand with one of your companions right behind you so you won't
get knocked back.  If you pin him into a corner, you'll be able to score a lot
of hits in a hurry, but he'll also inflict massive damage on you.  In any case,
it will be a long battle.  Use Healus whenever you start to weaken and restore
Darus and Midea's Tech points with Miracles and Elixirs if needed.
-----------------------

After the sanctuary opens, you'll automatically fly the Fitzkarard there.  Equip
the Lemuria Sword that Aburo gave you.  Sleep and save -- the bed on the
Fitzkarard's bridge is the final save point.  Then go down out of the ship and
enter the sanctuary.

The nightmare monsters in the sanctuary are very powerful, but many of them drop
Meat.  Pelt them with attack Techs and use your special recovery items at will,
since there's nothing after this to save them for.  The path is long and
winding, but there's only one way to go.  You'll find the Ark Armor and Sun Ring
on the way.  When you reach the fourth floor and the music changes, be sure to
check all of the side passages for a few last healing items.  Continue through
the large blue doors to the Center of Dreams where the final foe awaits.

-----------------------
FINAL BATTLE
Huge monster: Spits powerful fireball
Yellow crawlers: Weak contact attack

Focus on the huge nightmare monster.  It can only be damaged when its mouth is
open.  Hit it until it spits a fireball at you.  Quickly sidestep and hit it in
its open mouth.  At the same time, you'll have to clear out the yellow crawly
monsters or you won't have any room to move.  They're weak but they regenerate
quickly.  Watch your HP and use Healus and recovery items as needed.  You should
have enough saved up to outlast the monster.  The fate of Lemuria is in your
hands!
-----------------------
