Q Boy is a simple platformer for the NES/Famicom, released in Australia by
Sachen. It bears many striking similarities to the Super Mario games, and
even has a trick that lets you switch to a Mario character! Anyway, you go
through five relatively short worlds, navigating through the typical
platformer elements (obstacles, enemies, pits, etc.). You are able to attack,
which can come in handy, though I personally think the gameplay itself is
slower than it needs to be. Nonetheless, it is a short and simple game that
is worth giving a shot. It could be a lot worse than it is, but it certainly
could have been improved upon. Check it out!

===========
Power Meter
===========
An important aspect of this game is the 3-box Power meter on the screen. You
need power in order to hop in the air and even attack. Each time you use a
regular attack, it takes up half a box; a charged attack takes a full box.
When you jump normally, it uses no power, but if you hold the button or tap
it again, you can hop again, using one whole box of power with each leap
(with a maximum of three hops). Be careful when you run out of power though,
since you will temporarily be unable to move as it refills. Naturally, the
power bar will refill if you stay still or move along without jumping.
Luckily, it refills rather quickly, so you won't have to worry too much.
=====
Items
=====
1-Up: This gives you an extra life, of course. It will be a small box with
your character's face on it.
P Icon: This grants you infinite power for a limited time.
Shield: This is in the form of a thunder bolt icon. Small orbs surround you,
and you are invulnerable to all enemy attacks for a limited time.
Star: These are the main collectibles in the game. If you collect 100 of
them, you will earn an extra life (the tally is on your screen next to
the "$" symbol).
==============
Special Stages
==============
Between the third and fourth levels of each world, there will be a Special
Stage. In this bonus area, you will see a wall with holes in it, shaped like
your Famicom controller (four holes on the left for the Control Pad, and two
on the right for A and B). Enemies will pop out of the holes at random, so
press the button coinciding with the opening to hit that enemy with a hammer.
The green enemies count for 1 points, and the pink enemies count for 2
points. Occasionally, timers will appear; hit them and you will lose 5
seconds off your time in this mini-game! Once it ends, you may or may not
receive extra lives depending on how many points you accumulate.

Volcano Stage
=============
Stage 1-1
---------
You start off your game in this rather simple stage. For the most part, all
you need to do is head to the right while avoiding the enemies along the way.
If you come across an enemy, you can use your air attack (press B) to knock
them back a bit. If you knock an enemy into the edge of the screen or a wall,
they will die. You can use your attack to break the Q blocks throughout the
levels as well. For instance, break the Q block above where you start to get
a shield (the thunder bolt icon) for a limited time. When you reach a high
wall, wait until your power is full, then press A repeatedly to jump/float
onto it. Other than that, go all the way right to complete this simple stage.
Stage 1-2
---------
Starting off, you can break the second Q block above you to get the super
power ability (the P icon) for a short period. This will allow you to jump
and attack without your power bar depleting while it is in effect. Head right
and use your attack on the blocks with faces on them to move them forward so
you can get through the walls. After getting through the second wall, use
your attack to knock the round enemy back as you move forward, knocking it
into various enemies along the way. Once you knock it off the ledge at the
end, wait until you have full power to float across the gap. Jump up the next
two ledges, attacking the enemies on each ledge to kill them.
For the next part, float from ledge to ledge, being careful of the fireballs
coming from below. When you make it to the ledge at the end, knock the
enemies into each other to clear them, then fly onto the high wall with full
power. Further ahead, you will be able to take the upper path, which is
safer, or the more hazardous lower path. The lower one has a Q block
containing a shield if you are interested. Once you get past that, float to
the right and drop in front of the doorway to reach the end of the level.
Stage 1-3
---------
Here, jump over the first enemy you face since your attack will only stun it.
You will see a wide gap ahead with fireballs being dropped from statues in
the air. The second one will yield a P icon, so collect it and use your
temporarily infinite power to hop across the gap. Once across, continue
onward and defeat the enemies you meet, then float up to the high platform.
If you go onto the upper ledge ahead, you can break two Q blocks to get a
shield, then take the lower path ahead. At the other side, you can grab the
heart on the ledge above you.
Jump across the blocks that shoot fireballs ahead, then collect the P icon in
the air and hop your way through the air ahead. There is another one of those
P icons further ahead, so be sure to grab it as well; watch out for the
falling spikes though! When you reach a safe platform ahead, jump to the
upper ledge and continue across another gap, collecting stars and a heart in
the air. At the other side, simply go right to exit the stage. You will go to
a Special Stage before the next real stage begins.
Stage 1-4
---------
Start off by going right and up the first several ledges, knocking the simple
enemies back. Hop across the gap and collect the P icon to power up, and hop
ahead, avoiding the falling spikes and the fireballs. Collect the heart along
the way, then go along the upper platform ahead. You will see three tiers of
platforms further along; the lower two will lead to Q blocks, and the top
path will lead to another P icon. Continue across the wide gap, collecting
the heart above the small ledge if you need to land and rest (if you didn't
get the power up). Watch out for the spikes overhead, and continue hopping
along until you reach the end of the stage.
Stage 1 Boss
------------
The game's first boss is a king blob, if you will. It sits on the right side
of the screen, sending smaller blob enemies hopping towards you. The small
purple blobs are straightforward in that they hop forward but at a very low
height. The green small blobs come out of the boss jumping high in the air,
then move along the ground once they land. To attack, you must knock these
smaller blobs back so they hit the boss, causing damage. Don't get too close,
or you won't see what's coming up, or you may not have enough time to react
to an incoming enemy. Your regular attack, as you know by now, will knock the
enemies back towards the boss. It will take about eight hits to defeat the
boss, clearing Stage 1!
=========
Ice Stage
=========
Stage 2-1
---------
From the start, wait for the orange enemy above to jump down to where you
are, then defeat it. Break the Q blocks and collect an extra life from one of
them, then get onto the high ledge and continue onward, knocking the enemies
back as you encounter them. Go down the ledges ahead, then up the next group
of them, knocking back the enemies you meet. Ahead, you will see three blocks
in the air. Attack the middle one to knock it back, then jump onto the bottom
one and across to the middle one you just moved.
From there, knock the enemy off the ledge ahead, then jump onto that ledge.
Wait until you have full power, then hop across the gap and knock the next
enemy off its ledge so you can land. Drop to the lower ledge, then with full
power hop onto the air-shooting blocks ahead. Collect the P icon in the air,
and use your infinite power to hop ahead in the air. Attack the blocks in
your way to move them, then get around them and proceed onward to the next
platform ahead. Collect the stars and attack the smaller enemies, but ignore
the larger snowman enemy (your attack will only stun it).
Continue onward and you will reach another group of blocks with the faces on
them in mid air. Knock the top one back, then jump across them and wait until
you have full power to hop across the gap ahead. Be careful not to get hit by
the air gusts being shot from the other blocks. When you get to the other
side, go right and knock the enemies back, then drop to the lower area and
head right to exit this stage.
Stage 2-2
---------
Start off by jump up two ledges, then knock the bouncing enemy back when it
jumps out of its hole. Get to the upper platform and attack the snail, then
hop across to the ledge in the air ahead. Wait for the air-shooting block to
stop briefly, then jump to the ledge next to it and knock the snail back. Get
down to the lower ledge and knock the snail off it, then break the Q block
and collect the P icon behind it. Now, continue to the right along the upper
platform; as you walk, you will drop down to collect a heart. Hop back out
and continue right, but be careful of the bouncing enemy on the ledge ahead.
After you clear the enemies, hop to collect the stars forming a path
downward, and land on the block that's shooting air gusts. Knock the two
snails into each other ahead, then hop over the gap onto a small ledge. In
this next part, you need to be careful since fish will jump out of the water
below, and can actually reach where you're standing to attack! When you see
one coming, jump quickly to avoid taking damage. Get across the next part in
between the air-shooting block's shots, and jump to the high ledge ahead. Go
right and attack the snail as you move to eventually knock it off the far
edge of the platform.
You will see a larger enemy with a hat below; you can fall into its area if
you land on the left side of the "ceiling" where it is located. Defeat it
down there (attack twice), then move right to lure the bouncing enemies
overhead to fall into the hidden opening as well. Then, kill them so you can
jump out and continue safely to the right. When another bouncing enemy
appears ahead, lure it to the left and pass under it as it hops overhead,
then knock it into the left wall to defeat it. Do the same for the larger
enemy to the far right.
Next, jump onto the high ledge and knock back one more bouncing enemy as it
emerges. With full power, hop to the right and collect the stars and P icon
as you fall. This next part is dangerous since the blocks will shoot air
towards you, and fish will jump out of the water below. You need to time your
hops (while with the infinite power) to land on the middle or bottom blocks,
and continue past, or else you'll just keep getting knocked back by the air.
When you make it onto the blocks, continue hopping along and land on the
final ledge to end this level.
Stage 2-3
---------
Start by going right while avoiding the falling spikes (as a hint, the spikes
that will fall are colored slightly differently than the others), and knock
the enemies into the walls ahead. When you reach the wide gap with the air-
shooting blocks, jump across them and collect the P icon in the air. Continue
hopping through the air, staying close to the top of the screen since ghosts
will appear and hop around below. Collect the second P icon when you reach
it, then land on the ledge at the end. Knock back the snail enemy and collect
the heart in the air below, then continue past the enemies and go right.
Drop down and collect the extra life above the pit, and hop to safely land on
the right ledge. Now, go right and knock back the snail enemy so it falls off
the end of the platform. Jump to the next ledge, but watch out since the
ghosts can jump to the level of your platform to attack, so jump to avoid
getting hit when necessary. Get past the air-shooting blocks and collect
another P icon in the air, and continue onward.
There will be a long platform dividing the area ahead; the safer path is
above it since there is only one enemy you can easily knock back. If you take
the lower path, you can grab a heart and two stars, but run the added risk of
being hit by the hopping ghosts below. Regardless of the path you take, go
right and land on the lower ledge in front of the door to complete the stage.
You will now get the opportunity to earn some extra lives in the Special
Stage prior to the next stage.
Stage 2-4
---------
Here, you will see rushing water below (it can hurt you, so don't jump into
it), and small platforms moving along it. Hop onto one of the platforms and
ride it to the right. You still have to walk by holding Right though, or else
you will fall off. At the first drop, hop onto the upper ledge and knock back
the bouncing enemy. Drop onto the moving platform when it passes below or
wait for the next one, and continue ahead. Jump between the air-shooting
blocks, then land on the ledge before the pit. Hop over the high wall and
knock back the larger enemy at the other side when you land.
With full power, hop upward and knock the snail off the top of the right
wall, then jump onto that perch. Fall onto the next moving platform and
continue to the right, and jump onto the upper ledge. Break the Q block in
the air to collect a heart, then go down and ride the platform to the right
some more. Hop onto the next ledge and knock back the bouncing enemy there,
and drop onto the platform as it passes below. At the end of the watery path,
hop along the lower half of the screen to grab a P icon for its temporary
infinite power.
Continue to the right, knocking back enemies along the way, and hop across
the moving platforms as they approach you from the right. There will be a
platform in the air ahead where you can grab a heart above it and an extra
life below. When you get to the top of the path, knock the snail enemy back
so it falls into the pit. Then, drop to the lower area and knock back the
bouncing enemies to grab the heart in the small alcove. Then, go right and
knock back the larger enemies. At the end, jump to the upper ledge and knock
back the bouncing enemy, and approach the opening to exit the stage.
Stage 2 Boss
------------
The boss here is a giant jagged ice block. Its pattern is simple: four spiky
ice blocks will rise from the floor below (move/jump back and forth to avoid
them), and a wall of eight blocks will form in front of the boss. The wall of
blocks will consist of regular square blocks you can jump on, as well as the
spiky blocks. You can attack these blocks to knock them back into the boss
itself, but you have to hit the actual head to cause damage. This means you
need to knock any of the top four blocks in this wall back towards the boss.
You can jump on the lower blocks to gain leverage so you can jump/hop upward
to reach the higher ones. It will take about eight hits to kill this boss,
completing the ice stage.
=========
Sky Stage
=========
Stage 3-1
---------
For this stage, you will be riding a cloud as the screen scrolls to the
right. Collect the stars out here and you will see a large statue head in the
wall ahead. Stay towards the middle of it and it will open (you won't get
crushed, don't worry), then continue inside. There will be bats floating
around, so try to maneuver around them or attack to knock them away. When you
encounter the flying dog enemies, knock them back in the same manner.
Up ahead, you will reach a more narrow set of passages, so make it through
those while knocking back any enemies in your way. The large red enemies
cannot be knocked back, so your best bet is to steer clear and pass under
them when you see an opening, or knock a smaller bat into them. Once you get
through the narrow passages, you will see three rows divided by brick walls
you can go along. The top row will lead to a heart if you need it, otherwise
stick to the lower paths to have an easier time getting under the wall at the
far end.
After the high wall, continue through the open area and avoid the red enemies
floating about. Up ahead, you will find another wall to get around. Once you
pass it, you will be at the end of the level!
Stage 3-2
---------
This stage will also scroll to the right, but you will be on foot for it. The
transparent enemies ahead can only be knocked back if you attack them when
they are jumping in the air. Get past the first bunch of enemies, as well as
the birds flying back and forth. At the top of the steps, drop down and
defeat the enemy, then collect the heart above it. At full power, wait for
the screen to scroll ahead enough, then hop to the upper ledges and continue
to the right.
Break the Q blocks ahead after knocking back the transparent enemy, and you
will find a shield. With it, destroy the giant missile that comes your way.
After that, continue along and drop down to the lower segment and head right
while you're down there. When you reach the spikes, hop upward to collect the
P icon. Hop across the open area, moving around to avoid the incoming
missiles (you cannot destroy them, so don't bother trying). When you reach
the ground ahead, land there of course. You will now have to deal with
enemies floating downward with umbrellas, as well as the usual missiles. They
may be obscured by the giant screens in the foreground, so pay attention and
jump/move to avoid getting hit!
When you reach the spikes again, don't jump to the high ledge immediately.
Wait for the giant missile to pass through the upper area, then at full
power, hop to the high ledge. Get through the passage to the lower area, then
go into the left alcove to avoid the next missile. For the next part ahead,
wait for the upper missile to pass, then get onto the high ledge to avoid the
lower one. Also, break the Q block on the lower path to find a heart.
Continue through the narrow passage, backing up and dropping down when
necessary to avoid the missiles. Collect another heart and some stars as you
make it out to the wide open area once more. There will be an extra life
above the spikes below; drop down with full power to grab it, then hop onto
the safe ledge above before your power depletes. When the screen scrolls
enough, get across to the right ledge, and you will see some stairs in the
doorway. As soon as the screen stops, the stage will be over, and you will go
right into a boss stage.
Stage 3 Boss
------------
The third stage's boss is a witch who flies back and forth on her broomstick.
She attacks by dropping tomatoes which cause a small fire as soon as they hit
the ground. For the most part, the witch will fly back and forth high above
you, but will occasionally swoop down to get closer. When the witch swoops
down, you can use your attack to knock her back towards the wall. If the
witch crashes into the wall before recovering, she will hit the ground and
you will know that damage was inflicted. To achieve this, you should hit the
witch at the start of her swooping so she is still close enough to the wall
that an impact will be imminent. It will take 10 such hits to kill her.

Desert Stage
============
Stage 4-1
---------
As soon as you start the level, jump to avoid the giant boulder that falls
from above and rolls toward you. Head to the right through this area,
attacking the small enemies along the way, starting with the mummy just after
the start. Collect the stars as you jump up the ledges and progress to the
right. When you reach the top of a high wall, break the Q block in the air to
collect a shield.
After you land, go right and hop to the high platform, and collect the heart
at the other side. Take the high path across the next section so you can
safely avoid the enemies below. Rest atop the wall, then drop down and defeat
the cactus enemy as it approaches. Take the lower path onward, and defeat the
two orange lizard enemies as they come down to ground level. Jump up above to
collect an extra life, then continue along the ground path. When you reach a
point between two tall walls above, jump to avoid the giant boulder as it
rolls past.
After it's gone, go right and hop up the opening above to find another heart.
Go right and take the lower path again when given the chance, and defeat the
orange enemies you meet. Go into the left alcove and break the Q blocks to
uncover another heart if you need it. Continue going right along the lower
(and safer) path, and hop onto the high ledge at the other side. Watch out
for the giant boulder to the right, passing after it does. Follow the path
downward and to the right, defeat one more orange enemy, and continue to the
stage's exit.
Stage 4-2
---------
From the start, stay still and defeat the lizard enemies as they fall from
the ledges above. Then, go inside the pyramid structure and defeat the
leaping frog enemy ahead. Continue up the ledges, then knock the green
enemies off their ledges so you can take the safe upper path (use a charged
attack). Collect the stars and head right along the top path, until you reach
a pit below. After the first boulder passes, go down and right to trigger the
next one to come out. Quickly go left and hop upward through the opening to
escape unharmed.
After that, go through the passage and hop onto the upper ledge when you get
to it. Defeat the orange enemies as you move along the platform, and knock
the green enemy off its ledge so you can get past it. Up ahead, break the Q
blocks and you can find a P icon to power up with. Go right and take the
lower path to obtain a heart above you. Further along, attack the red hopping
enemies in your way. From there, simply continue ahead and you will be at the
end of the level.
Stage 4-3
---------
Begin by killing the red enemy as it approaches you from the right. Break the
Q blocks above where you start, as well as further ahead, and you will be
able to collect some stars and an extra life. Hop across the spikes and knock
the green enemy off the ledge, then get to the next platform. Knock the
enemies into the walls as you approach them, and continue until you see the
boulder appear behind you. Drop to the lower ledge and clear the enemies in
your way so you can continue safely.
Continue ahead, breaking the Q blocks and killing the enemies you encounter
along the way. There will be different green enemies ahead; if you kill the
one in the alcove below the platform, you can get a heart from it. Hop to the
high ledge and get to full power, then go right. Take the lower path to avoid
the boulder above, then defeat the green enemy and go right to trigger
another boulder. Jump over it and continue through the passage. At the
spikes, hop across them with full power to reach the next ledge. Then, simply
continue onward, killing the enemies one at a time, and you will be at the
end of the stage. Enjoy the Special Stage, then it's on to the next regular
level!
Stage 4-4
---------
In this area, defeat the enemies if you want, and break one of the Q blocks
to find a heart. You will see blue blocks on the right side of the room; get
onto the ledge between them and you will warp to the next area. There, jump
to collect the star directly above you, and a thunder bolt icon will appear;
collect it to get the shield ability. Get across the lava and jump up the
ledges to the top area. Then, go left and grab a heart before standing on the
northwest ledge, which will take you to the next room.
When you arrive in the third room, there will be three orange enemies below.
Defeat them by knocking them into each other and the last one into the wall,
then head left along the lower area. At the far side, hop onto the northwest
blue ledge and you will warp into another room. In the fourth room, drop down
to the ground area and clear the enemies, then step on the blue blocks in the
southeast area to reach a new section.
In this room, you will see bouncing enemies and green snails moving around.
Get across to the left side of the room after attacking the enemies in your
way, then jump onto the northwest ledge. The differently colored blue blocks
will lead you into the next room. In there, watch out for all of the fast-
moving enemies below as you head downward. Get onto the blue blocks in the
southwest corner and you will warp into yet another new room.
This time, there will be two ledges with blue blocks on the left side. Get
past the enemies, and hop onto the highest ledge with full power. Knock back
the green enemy there to kill it, then take that warp onward. In the blue
room with the birds and spiky enemies, go into the niche to the right to
avoid the bird as it flies overhead. After it passes, go left and drop to the
ground, and step on the southeast set of green blocks to continue. You will
emerge in a room with three ledges with blue blocks on the left side. Quickly
attack and kill the armored enemy on the bottom level, then jump to the
middle one as the enemy turns away and defeat it (so you don't get hit by its
laser attack). Take the middle blue warp into the next area.
When you land here, you will see two armored enemies moving back and forth on
the ledges to the sides. If you land on the middle two ledges below, they
will shoot at you. Time your attack so you land as one is turned, then
quickly kill the one on the left first (it's easier). After that, kill the
other one in the same manner (jump to the upper alcove to avoid being hit).
There will be four warps to choose from below. Take the third one (second
from the right).
You will finally arrive in the last room (it's the one with six sets of blue
blocks, three on each side). Quickly go into the alcove to the right, then
turn and push back/defeat the enemies as they fall from above. When the coast
is clear, make your way onto the second ledge from the top on the right side.
Defeat the green enemy there, and step onto the blue blocks (it should be the
middle set on the right side). You will then warp to what appears to be the
same exact room, but this time it will be the end of the stage!
Stage 4 Boss
------------
The boss here is a clown riding a unicycle back and forth. It moves to one
side of the room (jump/hop over it to avoid getting hit), then throws a
single tomato in your direction. Attack it to send it back at the clown,
causing damage to it. At some points throughout the battle, the clown will
stop in the middle area briefly before continuing to one of the sides to
attack. This can be tricky, so stay on a side and wait to see where it is
going before jumping over its head). It will take ten hits to defeat this
boss.
=============
Factory Stage
=============
Stage 5-1
---------
Starting off here, get past the two hopping enemies as you head right. You
will see a new obstacle here in the form of spears in the ground which shoot
out and then retract briefly into the ground. When they are retracted, you
can jump over them safely. Get across both of them to reach the next part,
where you will see blue armored tanks moving back and forth. Jump behind the
first one as it moves left and knock it into the wall with your attack, and
repeat with the other one to the right.
Get past the spear when it retracts, and continue right to see a flying enemy
above. It will drop small bombs periodically, so watch out for those. With
full power, jump across the gaps to the right. When you reach the first
smaller ledge, jump and attack the blue tank enemy ahead to knock it into the
pit below. Continue onward to the ledge with the spear, and hop with full
power to the high platform above. Drop off the other side to grab the P icon
and gain your temporary infinite power. Hop to the right along the lower
half, and break the second Q block to get another P icon.
Continue to the right while avoiding the bombs being dropped from the enemy
above. Land on the next ledge and drop to the lower area, and continue
through the narrow passages full of bouncing enemies and the spears. When you
make it through to the end, you will be at the end of this stage.
Stage 5-2
---------
Starting off, go through the narrow passage until you encounter the blue
robot. Follow it to the right and attack it from behind as it approaches the
wall so you don't get hit by its projectile attack. When you reach the open
end, hop onto the Q blocks in the air, then get past the cannon block below.
Follow the trail of stars in the sky as you hop to the right, then land on a
couple more Q blocks. Land to the right of a couple of cannons below, and
defeat the blue robot before heading onto the next ledge.
In the next part, get past the spear when it retracts, and break the Q blocks
ahead to get the shield ability. Wait until you have full power, then hop
across the gap to the other side. If you want to grab a heart high above, use
your full power to get up there after resting. Otherwise, go right some more,
being cautious of the cannon fire and the spears ahead. Get past the second
spear, then jump to the higher ledge (there is an extra life to the right if
you want it).
Go right and avoid the cannonballs being launched your way and drop to the
lower area when you have a chance. Collect the heart in the left alcove, and
wait until you have full power to jump over the spear and across the gap to
the first ledge. Rest there, then jump/hop across the upper area to the
right, avoiding the cannon fire below and the flying enemy above if possible.
Once you get onto the wall above the cannons, go right and onto the final
platform to complete this level.
Stage 5-3
---------
From the start, go right and pass under the red hopping enemy, then defeat it
from behind. Jump to grab the P icon above, then hop your way to the right
while avoiding all of the cannon fire. When you reach the next regular ledge,
go right and down while avoiding even more cannonballs. Head to the right and
jump to the upper ledge to grab a heart if you need it. Up ahead, you will
face an armored enemy, so quickly attack it to knock it off the ledge so you
don't get hurt by its attack. In the next open room, jump with full power to
get the heart above, then land on the Q block in the air.
From here, go right and jump/hop with all your power to reach the next ledge
(if you don't have full power, you'll fall into the enemies below, so be
careful). Get through the narrow passages ahead, clearing the two armored
enemies along the way. For this final part, you will have to hop across
ledges while avoiding cannonballs coming at you. When you're on the high
ledge, jump to avoid the cannonball, then drop down to the lower area. Then,
go right to exit the level. Enjoy the Special Stage, and then it's on to the
next stage.
Stage 5-4
---------
Starting off here, go right and jump to the high ledge. Quickly dispatch the
robot enemy there, and break the Q block to get a shield. Go right across the
next several ledges, breaking the Q blocks in your way and avoiding the
enemies while you are still protected. When you reach the final ledge with an
enemy on it, defeat the enemy and break the middle Q block to get a heart.
Knock back the hopping egg enemies as they come from the right side, and hop
over to the first set of ledges with cannons embedded in them.
Jump to collect the P icon when there's an opening between cannon shots, and
continue hopping to the right. When you reach the next section of ground, go
right and defeat the enemies by knocking them into the sides of the screen.
After that, go right and jump your way around the giant letters that spell
out "PUFF KID". Once you get past the giant D, you will be at the end of the
level!
Stage 5 Boss
------------
At last, you will face the final boss, which is a giant tank with a drill in
front of it. As you would expect, this boss has two attack patterns. The
first one will consist of it shooting out its red fist down to your level to
attack (stay to the left and jump to avoid it, then go right to avoid it when
it's retracting) three times in a row. After the fist attack, it will open
its chest hatch and shoot out a flying enemy (this will happen three times in
a row as well). It will move back and forth before swooping down. At this
point, jump and attack the enemy, sending it towards the tank to cause
damage. If it hits the giant drill part, it doesn't count, so you have to
jump and attack!
After you inflict about 6 hits on the boss, it will introduce a new attack in
the form of moving forward and shooting three missiles into the air. They
will then come down in your area, so stay to the side and jump to avoid the
blasts upon impact. Continue your attack as you have before, then after you
hit the boss 15 times total, the top hatch will open and Dr. Mouse will jump
out. He has a set pattern of jumping back and forth: from the top of the
tank, he will jump to the far left, then to the tank's arm, and then to the
middle of your area. The cycle will repeat after that point. All you need to
do is hit Dr. Mouse once with your regular attack, and the battle will be
over.
At this point, Dr. Mouse will be defeated and you will watch a quick scene
before the credits roll. Congratulations on completing Q Boy!
