1. INTRODUCTION
****************
I first started playing this game not long after it came out, and I was
immediately hooked. This NES puzzle game enraptured me, until I got stuck
on one of the levels. Frustrated, I quit playing. The game was gradually
forgotten as other gaming systems came out, but the acquisition of an NES
emulator resurfaced its memory. I started playing Puzznic again, but once
again I got stuck. I tried looking on the internet for solutions, but
this yielded no results. Finally, I was able to figure out the solution
on my own, and I was able to at last beat the entire game.
I am writing this FAQ mainly because I wasn't able to find a complete
guide with solutions to all the levels in Puzznic, and I thought there
ought to be one. This is for everyone out there who loves this game!
Note: This guide will only cover the Puzznic aspect of the game and not
Gravnic. If you want help with Gravnic, there is an excellent walkthrough
at GameFAQS.

Fixed errors in the solution for level 15-7 and added some clarifications in the
solutions for level 15-5 and 16-6. Also fixed a couple small formatting errors.

3. GAMEPLAY/CONTROLS
*********************
Each level in Puzznic starts with a bunch of different blocks arranged in
a level, and the object is to get rid of all the blocks in order to go on
to the next level. The blocks will disappear when they touch another
block of the same type, either side by side or one on top of the other.
Controls:
Directional Pad - move the cursor or a block (Note: blocks cannot be moved up
since gravity is simulated)
A - hold down to select and move a block
B - same as A
Start - pause and unpause the game; also use to retry or get passwords
Select - selects an option at the beginning of the game (Puzznic, Gravnic,
or Password)
Game Screen:
Score: Increases by 100 for clearing blocks two at a time, 200 for
clearing blocks three at a time, 1000 for clearing a level, and 50 for each
second that is left on the time. Bonus points are also awarded for
clearing multiple groups of blocks with just one move or at the same time.
The score is reset if all retries are used up or if time runs out.
Level: The levels start at 1-1 and goes up to 1-10, then goes to 2-1 up to
2-10 and so on all the way up to 16-10, making 160 levels in all.
Time: If time runs out, the level restarts with reset score, time, and
retries. As the levels get harder, the time increases. When the time
gets down to 30 seconds, it will change to orange and the music changes.
When it gets down to 10 seconds, the time starts to flash and the game
cannot be paused.
Retry: You start out with 2 retries. If you wish to start over on a
level, push Start, then select "Yes" with the A or B button. If you have
no retries left, it will ask "Give up" instead of "Retry". Choosing yes
will begin a countdown; push start to retry the level with a reset score,
or let the time run out to be game over. (Note: The countdown will also
automatically begin if you have no retries left and it becomes impossible to
clear the level, i.e. there is only one block left a certain type of block.)
Beneath the retries is a list of all the different types of blocks on the
level and the amount of each. It really helps to look at this list for
odd numbers of blocks, because those are usually the trickiest to clear
since you can't just do them all by twos.
The right part of the screen is the level where the game is played. The
cursor cannot be moved outside of the grey walls of the level.

4. LEVEL WALKTHROUGHS

I have come up with names for each of the different blocks in order to
tell them apart. I will be referring to them throughout this walkthrough
as follows:
emerald: the block with a light green square or rectangle
grey: the block that is split up into four small, grey squares
blue: the dark blue block that sort of has a circle in the middle
plus: the block with a red (or pink) plus sign
X: the block with a grey X
circle: the block with a dark green circle
diamond: the block with a light blue diamond
triangle: the block with a red (or pink) triangle or pyramid
The walkthroughs for the levels will be in this order: the level number,
its password, and the time limit; a map of the level (the key for the map
is below) and the amounts of each type of block; and a step-by-step
solution for the level. For many of the levels there are multiple
solutions, but I will provide only one solution for each one. I have
tried to find the best and easiest solution for each level, but if you come
up with a better solution, please email it to me. (Refer to Section 6 for my
email address.) Also, if you just want the passwords and not the solutions,
go to Section 5.
Note: In the solutions, when I use the word "clear" (such as "clear the
blues") it means to move those blocks together in any way so that they
touch and disappear.
